Articles In the world of designer doggies, we hear about unusual mixes every day. One of the unlikeliest of pairings that actually works really well is that Bulldog Shih Tzu mix. The fact that these two purebred parents are so physically different creates many different options of what the resulting mix will end up looking like. The differing personalities also make it difficult to always accurately predict the temperament of the Bulldog Shih Tzu mix. However, in the sections below we shall go through some of these likely outcomes in terms of personality traits, physical appearance, and care needs for a Bulldog Shih Tzu mix. That way, you will at least have an idea of what you are in for with these doggies. The combination of Bulldogs and Shih Tzus makes for a very unpredictable mixed doggy. This is because the two dogs are very different in terms of their physical characteristics. The Bulldog Shih Tzu mix is sometimes referred to as a Bull Shih and will usually result in a dog that takes dominant traits from either parent. Here is a look at some of these possible physical features that your Bull Shih mix may have. In terms of height, the Bull Shih also falls between both parents averaging 10 to 14 inches in height. The colors vary greatly with some of the common being red, white, fawn, brown, and black. These are often in pairs with a combination of white and a dark color. However, the Bulldog has a more exaggeratedly flat face which the Bull Shih may or may not end up inheriting. Both purebred parents have droopy ears which may either be short in the case of the Bulldog or a bit larger and longer for the Shih Tzu. The Bull Shih could inherit either of these ear types. On average, a Bulldog Shih Tzu can live for 10 to 18 years. For some perspective, Bulldogs usually live for 8 to 10 years while Shih Tzus can live for up to 18 years as they are generally healthier. As a mixed-breed dog, the Bulldog Shih Tzu is typically healthier than either purebred parent. However, there are some common health issues that you may have to look out for. Here are 5 of the most important of these. Airway Obstruction Airway obstruction is common in Bulldog Shih Tzus that inherit the brachycephalic features of the Bulldog breed. The obstruction and difficulty breathing are worst when the dog is active and in hot weather. Obesity The Bulldog Shih Tzu mix is prone to developing obesity. This is as a result of a combination of genetics, their exercise restrictions imposed for their safety, and their very large appetite. A healthy and balanced diet is the best way to prevent this condition. This exposes them to trauma as well as dryness and irritation of the cornea. Furthermore, the Bulldog Shih Tzu mix is also likely to develop eye conditions like cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy that are both marked by progressive worsening of vision. Intervertebral Disc Disease Intervertebral disc disease is a degenerative condition that affects the cartilaginous discs in the spinal column. Their progressive wearing down results in compression of nerves which could have all sorts of consequences from chronic pain to reduced limb functionality. Image from Instagram: lady. Frankly speaking, Bulldog Shih Tzu mixes are somewhat high maintenance. This is largely due to the fact that their build and potential features like the brachycephalic head structure makes them prone to several health issues. This means that you have your work cut out for you as far as taking good care of these doggies goes. Fortunately, taking care of a Bulldog Shih Tzu mix can be relatively easy especially if you know what you are doing. Here are a few pointers to get you on the right track when it comes to basic care of a Bulldog Shih Tzu mixed breed dog. However, too much exercise is bad for the dogs as they easily run out of breath and are not always efficient when it comes to dealing with heat. This means feeding your pooch high quality dog food in appropriate amounts of about 1 to 2 cups every day. For quality and balance, we recommend Pet Plate as they use vet approved recipes with real ingredients. Finally, top this diet off with some multivitamin supplements to ensure that your Bulldog Shih Tzu doggy has a truly balanced diet. Regular Grooming Regular grooming will not only help keep your Bulldog Shih Tzu looking clean and smelling fresh but it will also help prevent health issues like skin, dental, and ear infections. Also make sure to clean their eyes every day and their ears every week or two. Shih Tzus on the other hand are spunky little doggies that love attention and affection. The Bulldog Shih Tzu mix takes after the best and some of the not-so-desirable personality traits from both parents. Calm Bulldog Shih Tzu mixes take after their Bulldog parents in terms of their docile and laid-back nature. They are also very gentle which makes them great dogs for homes with children. Playful Bulldog Shih Tzu mixes love to have fun and can be very goofy. They are fantastic companions and will ensure that you never feel bored or lonely. Loyal The kind of bond that Bulldog Shih Tzu mixes have with their owners and other human friends is unlike anything that you will see with most dogs out there. They remain loyal for life which is probably why they are so popular. Affectionate Bulldog Shih Tzu mixes are very good at showing their love for their human companions. These affectionate dogs will cuddle all your worries away and love nothing more than playing the lapdog role. Active For the most part, Bulldog Shih Tzus are not the most athletic of dog breeds. However, they are quite active and lively which is a part of their goofy charm. They also have a lazy, couch potato side which you should discourage to avoid health issues like obesity. The outcome depends on which coat type they take after. Those that take after the long and silky coat of a Shih Tzu are hypoallergenic and shed very little. Here are the 3 most important steps in coat care for these mixed doggies. Brush 2 To 3 Times A Week Whether or not your Bulldog Shih Tzu mix is hypoallergenic, you have to brush their fur regularly to get rid of any loose fur. This practice also helps with detangling especially with long-haired Bulldog Shih Tzu mixed dogs. We recommend you try the Furminator Undercoat Tool that will work on any of the two coat type options on a Bulldog Shih Tzu mix. Removes loose hair: reaches through the topcoat to remove loose undercoat hair without cutting skin or damaging the.FURejector button: just push the button to release hair with ease. This shampoo is particularly useful for Bulldog Shih Tzu mixes that are prone to skin irritation as the oatmeal helps soothe the skin and promote healing. Trimming helps to keep the coat manageable both for you and the pooch. It also helps minimize infections both on the skin and especially in the ears. In addition to the rarity of the Shih Tzu, the Bulldog Shih Tzu mix is sometimes expensive due to their popularity as companion pets and family dogs. If the Bulldog Shih Tzu mix is more like the Shih Tzu, they will love swimming and will be instinctively comfortable in water. Purebred Bulldogs and Shih Tzus tend to get along. Both are even-tempered and tolerant dog breeds that generally coexist peacefully with other pets. However, to be on the safe side, it is best to start socialization training for both dogs at an early age to make sure that they are truly comfortable around other dogs. They are loving and loyal dogs and like to be with humans who match their energy, which is why the Bulldog Shih Tzu is the perfect companion for a child. If this dog breed is not trained properly on how to act around people or children, it has been known to nip or playbite at times, which must be corrected. Bulldogs are aggressive but can learn to be loving and friendlier with proper training. This dog is an ideal family pet and will suit families with small children. It also suits older people as it does not require much maintenance. A loyal breed will always want to be by your side. However, the Bullshih can have separation anxiety tendencies which is something to keep in mind. Shih Tzu Bulldog Size The Bulldog Shih Tzu mix is considered a toy dog and does not grow to be big, weighing lbs with an average height of about inches. Bulldog Shih Tzu Health Problems There are no known health conditions of the Bulldog Shih Tzu mix; however, both the Bulldog and the Shih Tzu are short-nosed dogs and are prone to breathing difficulties, which could also be passed on to the mixed breed. Brachycephalic Syndrome — I talked about this above as both of these parent breeds do struggle with the difficulty of breathing sometimes. This is the narrowing of the breathing passageways. Most likely, your dog will inherit this condition. Eye Issues — Sometimes, this breed has protruding eyes, which can cause vision issues or even eye disease in long-term health cases. Obesity — Another issue this breed faces is obesity. This breed could eat and eat if you allow them, so it is very important to feed your dog the recommended daily food limit. Dental Issues — The Shih Tzu can develop dental issues. Allergies — Allergies can be very common with a variety of dog breeds. The Bulldog can have sensitive skin, leading to certain product allergies. You can ask any of the concerning questions you may have. When they are combined together, your dog will have a good range life span between 10 to 18 years. Of course, you can always ask your veterinarian for guidance if needed. Living Conditions This is an ideal dog for an apartment as it is small and clean. This dog does not do very well with extreme heat, and if owners live in a hot country, keeping the dog in a place where the temperature is favorable is recommended. This goes hand in hand with the weather as well. Bulldog Shih Tzu Exercise Even though this is a small dog, it does need to be exercised daily. It enjoys running , and because it learns quickly, you could exercise it by playing a game of fetch. These dogs are prone to putting on weight easily as the Bulldog is known to eat non-stop. That is why you need to get your dog outside for at least thirty minutes to get moving. As mentioned above, watch out for extreme heat or cold when exercising. This can exert your dog and cause breathing issues. There are a lot of great playtimes and exercises your Bulldog Shih Tzu mix can do without getting too tired. Shih Tzu Bulldog Mix Feeding Since the Shih Tzu Bulldog mix tends to have flat faces, it can be difficult for your dog to pick up its food when eating. However, triangle-shaped dog food is much easier for your dog to pick up. This mixed dog breed is also prone to obesity, so you must ensure you are only feeding your dog the required amount and not overfeeding your dog. The best way to know how much your dog needs to eat is based on its weight. For example, the Shih Tzu Bulldog mix is estimated to need one cup of high-quality dog food broken up into smaller meals throughout the day. It is also very important to feed your dog a great balance of protein , carbs, fats, fruits, and vegetables. Many owners make their own homemade dog food, and many more holistic dog food brands out there strive to make extremely healthy foods for dogs. Shih Tzu Bulldog Mix Grooming This medium-haired dog is easy to maintain and must be brushed thrice weekly to keep its coat shiny and tangy-free. It is also recommended to feed this dog a hard-boiled egg once every two weeks as it is said to help keep their coat healthy. If your dog takes on more traits of the Shih Tzu parent, you will need some sort of dog detangler to help get out mats, knots, and tangles easier. It will need to be brushed more often if it is longer. As always, check out for signs of skin irritation when bathing your dog. The Bulldog dog breed is known for having sensitive skin. Only use dog safety-approved shampoos and watch out for skin irritation. Periodically check over the ear to ensure they are infection free and clip the nails when needed. Bulldog Shih Tzu Training When you are training any dog breed, you need to start when your dog is a puppy. Start with simple things such as potty training, socialization, and being friendly with people and other animals. Remember, when you are training your dog, you reward your dog with treats and positive praise. Training may take some time, so be patient with your dog. Your dog may be quite stubborn if it has more traits from the Shih Tzu parent. Training may take some time, but it is important to continue. Try not to get discouraged and have patience when training. You can always take your Bullshih to a professional trainer if it becomes overwhelming. Shih Tzu Bulldog Mix Puppies When you are first looking for a Shih Tzu Bulldog Mix puppy, it can be challenging to find a reputable and responsible breeder that breeds these two together. Stay away from puppy mills that sell puppies that may not have the best health as you would get from a breeder. Since this mixed dog breed is known as a designer dog breed and quite rare to acquire, you will most likely pay a lot for a puppy. Remember, if you cannot afford that route, you can always go the adoption route and get an older dog for a much lower price. In addition, this dog breed has to be artificially inseminated because these two dog breeds would not have puppies naturally. My name is Mitzi Michelle Brooks. I have had dogs all my life and German Shepherds most of that time. I have tried different breeds, but always come back to what I know and love. The German Shepherd Dog is the right fit for me. I breed large, old-fashioned, straight-backed, German Shepherds with a special focus on health and temperament. I am a very small breeder, all my dogs live with me, in the house. They are first, and foremost, my beloved pets. In my litters, I concentrate on the things that matter most to me: Health and Temperament. My dogs are all larger than the breed standard but with no compromise to their health. All my dogs are medium to low energy, making them easy to train and ideally suited for families. I do not breed: dogs that are hyper, dogs that show any signs of aggression, working dogs, high drive dogs, or dogs with excessive angulation. Puppies are born and raised in my home! That means your puppy goes home with you already socialized with other dogs, with cats, and familiar with all the sights and sounds of a normal home. All puppies are also current on vaccinations and on a set deworming schedule. The puppies bred here are sold as companions and pets. Just as working dogs are bred to work, my puppies are bred to live in and be a part of a family. With their low to low-medium drive, my pups are very easy for their new parents to train and still possess that famous German Shepherd instinct to protect their home and their family. These soft temperaments mean that my dogs are happy to go out and play, but just as happy to come in, lay at your feet, and interact with their family. If the breeders have been breeding a long time you should see lots of names. You are supporting puppy mills if you buy a dog with these registries as they are mainly for puppy mill breeders, You know what you get with AKC because of record inspections and DNA. All Buyers should beware! Both are breeding females that are not German Shepherds they looked like husky crosses but are registering them as German Shepherds and the registry does not care. I have personally seen it and so have many others. Are you looking for size? Here are some pointers! Most breeders of large german shepherds exaggerate by 50 lbs and several inches or more! Vet certified weight means nothing if you can't call the vet! Size means little if temper , health and longevity are not there!

At this shelter, Rex suffered seizures, which are now well controlled with medication. Rex also suffered from irritable bowel syndrome a very messy condition , which requires prescription food and medication in order to be completely managed. The treatment and maintenance of these two chronic conditions meant Rex was unlikely to thrive in a shelter environment, but the rescue network saw that this could be a happy dog and connected him with Kingston Animal Rescue. At times, he could not move them properly, they would seize up, and he would drag his back feet until they were bloody or be almost immobile. The amazing animal loving community came together to help get Rex more care, so he went for a specialist visit to Ottawa. This meant the padding between two of his lower, spinal vertebrae was misplaced and being pinched. In early March, Rex had surgery to correct the compression. Following a successful surgery, he underwent rehabilitation to regain his strength and mobility; he was so lucky to find himself in a home dedicated to getting him back on his feet. Rex stabilized, his fosters went above and beyond to see him through each and every issue, which included a thyroid condition and aggressive arthritis. His medical regime requires attentiveness, and symptoms of different conditions will emerge from time to time, but his seizures, irritable bowel disease, pain, and thyroid condition have all found points of relative resolution. Rex medically had stabilized, so his move out to the country in the spring of was a chance for his personality to blossom. Rex has become more patient, engaging and has grown into a great companion in his long-term foster home. He plays with other dogs, diligently watches their chickens, and herds their daughter. Rex is almost never without a ball in his mouth and keeps up with the pack as they rush down to a nearby pond, the almost daily swim has been helpful for regaining mobility. Rex lives a wonderful, shepherd like life. Frosty is a little shy at first, but he does get along with people of all ages as well as other dogs and even cats! Frosty loves the companionship of other dogs and learns a lot from them. Frosty is an absolute love-bug. He is a playful pup who loves running around the back yard, chasing tennis balls, shaking and tossing his squeaky toys, and chewing frozen marrow bones. He loves to lay at your feet at night while you watch TV or snuggle in bed with you if allowed. He will follow you everywhere and lay wherever you are. He walks very well on a leash using a harness. Frosty spent his early life on the end of a chain and would like his new home to have a fenced yard so he can be free to get the puppy zoomies and chase balls! Frosty has already learned many commands and has even had some foundation training in agility. Frosty is a very sweet boy who just worships his people. Frosty is now searching for an active family of his very own. Is there room in your heart and home for a loving, active boy like Frosty? Echo Dogs fosters dogs in many states. Transportation for the adopted dog IS available. Remember, we are an all-volunteer foster rescue organization - we DO NOT have a physical shelter to visit. This would be the responsibility of the adopter at their own expense. To complete an online application: Click here. The Application can be found at the Adoption drop-down menu on the navigation bar above or by clicking here: Echo Dogs Application Form The application is sent electronically to our processing team, where references are checked. Yes, we really do call your references! The information provided to us by your references is kept strictly confidential. We believe that we get honest information by assuring references that we will not disclose to anyone the content of our conversations. You should call your references to let them know that they may be contacted by Echo Dogs. Occasionally, we have encountered some references, such as veterinarians, who are reluctant to speak with us unless they have your permission. It is easier for all of us if you let them know to expect our call. No application can be approved without veterinary and personal references. Either an Echo Dogs volunteer or someone who has agreed to help us usually another rescue group or animal shelter volunteer will contact you to set up the home visit. We will contact you to let you know who will be working with you to find a mutually-convenient time for conducting the home visit. Home visits are not scary!! This is often the most nerve-wracking part of our application approval process -- but it needn't be. The home visit is designed to accomplish three main goals: 1. To verify that the information provided on the application is true and accurate; 2. To determine whether the home has the ability to provide a safe, loving environment for a dog through Echo Dogs; and 3. To help determine the personality of the dog that would best suit the home and family. However, not every dog is appropriate for every home. We will work with you to find the dog that is best suited for your home, family and lifestyle. We want you to get a dog that will enrich your life and delight you and we want each one of our dogs to have a home and family that thinks he or she is the absolute best dog on the planet. Our Adoption Coordinator takes over at this point in the process. She will look at your application and home visit report and will send your application to the foster home that has a dog she thinks you might be interested in. The foster home will either call or e-mail you with some information about the dog. You should ask as many questions as you feel necessary to understand whether this dog is the "one" for you. If you don't think one sounds just right, just let the foster home or the Adoption Coordinator know and we will look for a different dog. If you can tell us why a particular dog didn't appeal to you, it will help us look at other dogs in our program that might be more suitable. Please do not feel pressured to adopt any dog that you aren't absolutely comfortable about adopting! Each of us loves our foster dogs, but we realize that he or she might not be the right dog for every family or home. We do not feel offended or hurt if you decide you would rather adopt a dog other than our personal foster dog. After all, our goal is to get our foster dog into a home where she or he will be truly treasured. Depending on the distances involved, we have various options available, which we can discuss prior to finalize the adoption. Bear in mind, that the transportation, depending on the distances involved, the speed with which you want to receive the dog and sometimes just plain luck, may involve some additional expense and almost always require you to drive some distance to pick up the dog. We keep each of our dogs on Heartgard or Interceptor and Frontline Plus while in foster care. Many of our dogs have received considerably more medical treatment than the above, depending on what they need when they arrive into foster care. If a dog has a chronic condition that is diagnosed while in our care, we will inform you of the diagnosis and the course of treatment that the dog has been receiving while in our care. Just ask!

At this stage, nipping bad behaviors in the bud is more important than imprinting positive ones. Instead, just redirect them to positive behavior and reward them accordingly. By this point, your puppy should have already been given their distemper and parvovirus vaccinations. By this point, they should be fully housetrained or close to it. Your dog will be likely to gnaw and bite on anything they can get their chompers on—including you. Stay calm and redirect their attention to appropriate objects like chew toys. Your Golden should be fully accustomed to their new kibble at this point, and you should feed them three to four times per day. A 3-month-old dog should also get a DHHP booster, which protects them from parvo, distemper, parainfluenza, and adenovirus. You can play with your pup as much as you like, but take care not to put too much stress on their joints. Avoid a bunch of running and jumping, especially on hard surfaces. Your dog can transition from four meals per day down to three at this point, but the meals should probably be larger. This can cause digestive issues until your dog gets accustomed to it, so be prepared to clean up a few messes. Training should continue, although your primary focus will likely be convincing your pup to chew on something besides your shoes. Your dog will need another DHPP booster at this point, as well as a rabies vaccination. Other optional vaccines include Bordetella, Lyme disease, coronavirus, and leptospirosis. This could cause a brief burst of intense biting and chewing, so power through it. Make sure your pup has plenty of chew toys available to them. Stairs in particular should be avoided. Your pup is likely to start asserting itself at this stage and may start to mature sexually if not spayed or neutered. There are no vaccinations required at this point. Everyone knows how much fun it is to raise teenagers, right? This can lead to undesirable behaviors like aggressiveness, increased tendency to roam, and destructiveness. As a result, you may think that your dog is too skinny, but resist the urge to increase their rations. While most breeds have a puppy coat that they eventually grow out of, Goldens do not. Instead, their puppy coat becomes their undercoat, so you may notice your dog becoming increasingly fuzzy. The teenage rebelliousness should be wearing off by this point, and your dog is ready to begin training in earnest. You should still be feeding them twice daily, and they should stay on puppy kibble for at least another 6 months. Goldens reach their full height between 9 and 12 months old. Females tend to get there faster, but males will be taller in the end. You may also need to cut back on the amount that you feed them. It depends on the individual dog, but females generally reach maturity first. Spaying or neutering your dog has its pros and cons. The pros are fairly obvious: less marking, reduced misbehavior, and zero chance of getting an unexpected litter of puppies. Spaying and neutering can also protect against certain cancers. You may want to wait until your dog is at least 12 months old before getting them fixed. This also leaves the window open longer in which they can suffer skeletal damage, though, so be careful about how active you allow them to be. However, stunted growth and growing too quickly can cause serious health problems, so you should check with your vet to make sure your dog is growing on schedule. Stunted growth is usually caused by malnourishment or a medical problem. You should have your pup tested for parasites like hookworm or ringworm, and consider switching them to a higher-quality, calorie-dense food. If left untreated, malnourishment can lead to weak bones, muscles, and immune system. As you might expect, growing too quickly is often caused by feeding your dog too much. American and British Goldens are similar. However, American Goldens tend to be less stocky and muscular, instead having a leaner appearance. They may weigh a bit less as well. They tend to be taller as well, often standing an inch or two higher than their counterparts. Conclusion Golden Retrievers make excellent pets, and we understand how hard it is to resist the temptation to bring a puppy home. If you do, though, you should understand what to expect from your new dog. Steady growth is what you want to see, without too many peaks or valleys. This sets your dog up for a long, healthy lifespan. Every dog develops at their own pace, so as long as you feed your pup an appropriate amount of high-quality puppy kibble and get them vaccinated regularly, you should be fine. See also:. Your new furry friend has a lot of growing to do, and you probably have a lot of questions. Your Golden Retriever puppy will go through a number of developmental stages throughout their first twelve weeks. Male Golden Retrievers generally weigh between 65 and 75 pounds and stand from 23 to 24 inches tall. Females are generally smaller weighing between 55 to 65 pounds, and will grow to stand .At 4 months, your Golden Retriever puppy will reach about half their adult height. When it comes to mental development, it can take even longer than that before the Golden Retriever is fully mature. However, every puppy is a unique individual, and these are merely milestone guidelines. Disparities exist between the working and show Goldens, as well as between males and females. Golden Retriever puppy growth can also be quite sporadic. As an overall average, many Golden Retriever puppies will weigh just approximately 1. Golden Retrievers are classified as a gundog breed, and these dogs are often divided into those bred for show and those meant for work. However, the body of the show Golden is typically larger, taller, heavy-boned, and fuller in the chest. Small Parents Like people, puppies inherit physical traits from their parents. And even puppies from the same litter can vary in size. Neither of these scenarios is healthy for a puppy. Larger breeds like the Golden Retriever are more at risk for growth disorders than small breed dogs. This article will give you a lot more information on how much to feed, what to feed, and how often to feed a Golden Retriever puppy. Illness and Puppy Growth If a puppy has been seriously ill for a prolonged period, it may affect their ability to grow normally. However, once the puppy is free of worms, they should continue to grow at a normal rate. The best way to determine if your puppy is too thin or too fat is by how he looks and feels. When looking at your puppy from above, he should have a noticeable waistline. Another way to tell is by putting your hands on either side of his ribcage. You should be able to feel his ribs using a gentle pressure. But if his ribs are visible, he could be underweight. Obesity is a huge problem for many dog breeds. Although there are ways to make your puppy grow bigger, this is not something you should attempt. It could also mean you end up with a fat puppy. One of the best ways to ensure your puppy has a long, healthy life is to ensure he stays at an optimal weight. Hip and elbow dysplasia and other musculoskeletal disorders are associated with excess weight in larger breeds. Having your dog neutered at a young age can also cause them to grow taller. The problem is, this can also cause abnormalities in joint formation. Neutering also makes Golden Retrievers more at risk for certain types of cancers. Typically it will take approximately 18 months for your Golden Retriever to become an adult dog. Even though they can reach their full height at anywhere from 9 to 12 months, it will usually take them longer to fill out to their full weight. Remember that there are wide variations in size within the Golden Retriever breed. If this is the case, you should contact your veterinarian to seek advice. Beginning the puppy development stages before birth Puppy development stages week by week Amazingly, in a way the puppy development stages begin before your dog is even born. Your puppy spends approximately 9 weeks developing inside his Mom. The mother dog has a womb or uterus, that has two long tubes, and the puppies grow in a row along each tube rather like peas in a pod. The puppies are joined to their mother by a placenta which provides all the nourishment they need for those few weeks. To begin with, the puppies have plenty of room to move but they grow fast and as the time for birth draws near they are packed in quite tightly. The one week old puppy Your puppy is born fully furred but with his eyes and ears closed so he cannot hear or see. His front feet are strong and he can pull himself towards his mother with them. He can cry if he is uncomfortable and his mother will respond to his cries by moving him towards her and licking him. Your puppy spends most of his time sleeping or suckling. He cannot regulate his own body temperature and needs his mother for heat, or an artificial heat source. In the first week to ten days of his life your puppy grows rapidly and will double his birth weight. His forelegs are getting much stronger. She licks the puppies bottoms to stimulate a bowel or bladder movement and eats the result. There is no cleaning up for the breeder to do yet. The breeder will begin to handle the puppies more though, and get them used to human contact. She will worm the puppies for the first time at the end of this week. Puppies begin to get their personalities. Your puppy can stand and sit up by the end of the week. Tails can be wagged, ears will be completely open and puppies start play growling and interacting with their littermates. Your puppy can regulate his body temperature more effectively and will start to cut his first teeth in preparation for weaning. The front teeth, canines and incisors are cut first. Toward the end of the week he may have his first tiny taste of puppy food. They also start to move away from the sleeping area to empty their bowels and bladder. They may try to climb out of the whelping box. If she lives indoors, she may rejoin the family for more of each day. Your puppy will cut his back teeth and the breeder will get weaning underway this week and by the end of it, your puppy will be getting quite a bit of his nourishment from puppy food. She will also worm the puppies a second time. If the mother is allowed near the puppies after she has been fed, she may regurgitate her dinner for them. This is completely natural and normal. He is a proper little dog. Rolling around with his brothers and sisters and playing with toys. Teething toys, puppy Kongs, balls and rope toys are big favorites with puppies. He can bark too and some puppies can be quite noisy at this age! He chases after his mother whenever she appears and suckles hungrily, but she is starting to get fed up with it, and may be reluctant to feed her brood for very long. His mother is teaching him not to bite too hard. If he lives in outdoor kennels he should spend part of each day indoors with the family. By the end of the sixth week, most are fully weaned, and eating five or six little meals of puppy food each day. Socialization must begin in earnest. He is now two months old and ready for his new life. It is the time during which they become fearful of anything unfamiliar and need to be thoroughly socialized. This is also the time during which most puppies get to grips with house-training, learning to wait before eliminating and start sleeping through the night without a potty break. It is a busy time for new puppy owners. Your puppy will have his vaccinations during this month. Biting can be a big problem during this stage and you need to be patient and consistent in order to teach the puppy not to hurt people when he plays. Provided you use force free methods, this is a great time to get puppy training under way, and especially to teach a puppy recall, and to get your puppy used to working with food. So, for a 2. You can do the same calculation for medium pups at sixteen weeks and large breed pups at 20 weeks — just divide his weight by his age in weeks before you multiply by .Medium to large pups will reach about half their adult height by the end of the month. If the weather is warm you can get your puppy swimming now. He should be able to come when he is called, in and around your home, provided there are not too many distractions. It all depends on what you have taught him. He may still be chewing a lot and biting too. Use frozen Kongs to help him and give your furniture and fingers a break. Puppies can go for short walks now. By the end of this month your puppy could have a twenty minute walk each day. He may also enjoy fetching a ball and playing with other dogs, but take care to stop before he gets very tired. Less dependence This is the month during which some puppies start to become less dependent on their humans for security. Keep your puppy close to you outdoors by changing direction frequently so that you puppy has to keep coming to find you. And engaging him in games. The foundations of a great recall are often build or spoilt during this month. If your puppy knows how to sit or lie down at home, start some simple proofing exercises with him in public places. A healthy puppy can usually manage on two meals a day from around six months. During this month a Retriever, Spaniel or GSD puppy will reach around two thirds of his adult weight. A Great Dane and other large breeds will have reached about half their final weight and little dogs will have almost completed their growth. Some female dogs will come on heat for the first time during this month, or the next, so keep an eye open now for swelling of her vulva and any discharge. Your dog will become increasingly confident over the next few months so practice, practice and practice that recall! Make it a habit he cannot break. And be generous with your rewards. Small breed pups may now be more or less mature. Your puppy will enjoy half hour off lead walks now, and should be able to walk on a loose lead for short periods with plenty of encouragement and rewards. Keep practicing that recall! These help to slow his growth further and to build his confidence. Make sure you practice good outdoor management on walks to maintain the good recall you have built and work hard on thoroughly proofing all his obedience skills. Read up on neutering before you take this important step, for dogs of either sex. Once your dog is a year old he can participate in more strenuous activities and sports. Now is the time to think about the kinds of activities you would like to do with him — go jogging together for example — and if necessary, to start to get him fit. Puppy development stages — Summary There is huge variation in the way in which dogs develop and mature. The puppy development stages and ages outlined above are a rough guide. We hope you enjoyed them and found the information interesting. When it comes to training, you get out what you put in. Your progress depends as much if not more on you rather than your puppy. If you train your puppy five times a day, six days a week he will learn many, many times faster than a puppy that is trained once a day at the weekend. Enjoy watching your puppy grow and develop. And have fun!

The Australian Labradoodle is different from all other labradoodles. Dogs from this cross typically were bred to each other over future generations, whereby the Australian dogs are also know as "Multi-generational" Labradoodles. The resulting labradoodles subsequently have been bred to each other, continuing the multi-generational tradition. Even when the other types of Labradoodles are bred on for generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle, as the attributes of the infused breeds were not included in their ancestry. The Australian Labradoodle Club of America was founded exclusively to foster and protect the original Australian Labradoodles that have come directly from Tegan Park and Rutland Manor breeding stock, or their offspring. Our mission is to maintain and improve the quality and soundness of the Australian Labradoodles, and to carefully monitor the further development of the breed. american bulldog puppies atlanta ga - My name is Mitzi Michelle Brooks. It gives an estimate of the risk for painful osteoarthritis OA of canine hip dysplasia CHD later in life. With this information, preventive and palliative strategies can be recommended by the PennHIP-trained veterinarian. It has been extremely helpful to me as a breeder to OFA-certify my dogs. Male deposit 1- ES Female deposit 1-CM Male deposit 2- Female deposit 2-VP Male deposit 3- Female deposit 3- Male deposit 4- Female deposit 4- If you would like to know litters coming later than this please give us a call Before you place a deposit, Please download or print our guarantee and contract. Fill it out and return to us either by texting it, scanning and emailing or through regular mail. Remember that regular mail is slower and cause you to not get the spot you want if I get other deposits and contracts before yours. Once I receive your signed contract and your deposit, I will sign one and send one back. New-contract-June 15 We distribute the best dry food available for dogs and cats! Most people want to feed the best and LA is just that! Or if you will be taking home a puppy soon, make sure you buy a puppy start pack. The start up pack is on the same page as the food. Performance shows what the dog IS. If you wanted to ship your puppy, you would need to first come to our kennels and then ship the puppy out yourself. Or you can use a ground transportation company. By placing a deposit on a litter not yet born, please keep this in mind and be willing to move your deposit onto another litter at a later date. This allows us to offer puppies to pet homes at a more affordable price. You will still get AKC papers except they will say limited. If you bred a dog that was registered limited, then you would not be able to register the offspring. This limit however, can be lifted by the breeder. That said, while it can be done, I strongly urge anyone who lives in an apartment to think carefully about how much time and work it can be to keep a large, working dog in an apartment. I will not sell a puppy to anyone who lives in an apartment and leaves the dog home alone all day. At least one person needs to be home during the day. The dog needs to be taken outside to play at least once a day and taken for potty breaks many times EVERY day. Also, please check with your apartments rules on German Shepherds; some complexes do not allow them. New strains of the Parvo Virus are abundant and it is my job to keep puppies safe. I use a high titer Parvo Vaccine at 4 weeks but this may not protect all puppies. So please understand as much as you would like to visit with your puppies as they grow I can no longer allow this until they are 7 weeks. I will send out emails with pictures or videos weekly. No outside dogs are allowed at anytime. Thank you for understanding how important it is for me to keep the puppies safe. If you do visit other breeders, please do so on a different day that you visit. Von Ward Kennels will take back any puppy at any time in their lives if their owners can no longer care for them. Please never take a Von Wards dog to a shelter if you can no longer keep them. While most of our dogs are larger than the standard, we do have a couple of breeding females that are within standard.

american bulldog puppies atlanta ga - He is doing fantastic with being an indoor doggie. He has learned to go potty outside and not inside, he sleeps really well in his crate or occasionally in the bed or couch with his previous foster. He walks really well on the leash now too and loves to go on adventures, explore, and hiking trips! He pulls slightly but is learning and doing very well! Luddy needs a new foster as soon as possible. Just give him a safe place to stay while he waits for his forever family to find him. He will be going through heartworm treatment in a couple weeks, so he will need to stay inside the home except for potty walks, because the heat will make him feel bad. As with all large dogs, Luddy is good with dogs of all sizes at his current foster home with proper introductions. Due to limited number of fosters, Luddy is being fostered with several other foster dogs of all sizes and we are looking to spread these fosters out to more foster homes where they can get more individualized attention. Cats are a little too interesting to Luddy, so a home without cats would be best for him. Select from the options below to view adoptable puppies and dogs in Jackson, Alabama and nearby cities. This boy is absolutely one of the sweetest male dogs I have ever met! He he loves every single dog he meets! He was this way even before his neuter. Tannehill was surrendered to us Saturday at Bark in the Park by a precious woman who saved him when he was dying from infection after being attacked by another dog. Tannehill just wanted to be friends and play with every dog he met! Even the ones that snapped at him! He is a true Lover, not a fighter! Tannehill is a senior boy, around years old at least, but he has lots of energy and life left in him! He is fully vaccinated now, neutered, on monthly prevention, and microchipped. Sadly, he was mild positive for heartworms. He has now been treated for those and is finally heartworm negative and completely healthy, other than some mild cataracts. Bless him. Tannehill would be a great family dog, because he loves kids too, or a great companion for an older person. Ideally, he needs a dog friend in his new home. He is crate trained and loves to lay on his bed in his crate with the door open. If you are interested in adopting this precious, sweet boy, please reach out to at .You may email us at southernpawsanimalrescue gmail. Share on Twitter I have a love for pets. I grew up with a German Sheppard and a Boston Terrier. In my adult life, I had a Jack Russell Terrier. Also, you can add birds and fish to the list of pets too. So anytime I hear about animals being abused or abandoned it breaks my heart. Can you imagine this? You find a decent-sized bag hanging on a bush near a mailbox with 9 newborn puppies inside. This actually happened in the West End of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and that mailbox belonged to the Carnes family. Carnes heard faint cries in the early evening which he thought was a kitten. He was shocked to discover 9 lifeless puppies on the coldest night we have had all season. Xan Pugh Carnes said she is no stranger to people leaving their animals at her home. The last dog that was abandoned was beaten, burned, had worms, and was very sick. I truly believe everything happens for a reason. The person that left those puppies to die in the recent frigid temperatures is another discussion about pet abonnement. Mind you these puppies still had their umbilical cords attached and their eyes were closed. However, the person left those animals in the right place because Carnes went out of her way to help. She saved those puppies. Get our free mobile app Through her friend Dale and some Facebook networking, they were able to rescue and place the 9 puppies with a neonatal rescue service in Anniston, Alabama. While they were traveling, her 3-year-old daughter was holding some of the puppies to give them warmth and comfort. The puppies are being cared for by Amanda Krug with Neonatal Rescue, She has been involved with rescue animals with her mom since a young age. They specialized with rescues animals with cleft palates which they have to be tube-fed and she loves helping pregnant dogs. Her mother passed in and she keeps her memory alive through working with animal rescue. However, one did pass away. This is a true act of kindness. Thank you, Xan and Amanda, for going the extra mile to help animals in need. You are some great Alabama Angels.
