Before you start training your Boxer puppy—or, even better, before you get the puppy—read up on what kind of training is ideal for your breed. Check online, local libraries and local organizations. You can also ask your vet for advice. Remember, the more knowledgeable you are, the better you know how to react under different circumstances. Make sure as well that you have what you need to effectively train your dog. If you're planning to clicker train, get a clicker. If you're planning to crate train, get the right-sized crate. Also be sure to pick up an appropriate collar and leash for general training. A leash should be no more than five to six feet in length. The best leashes for training are leather. Always check your equipment to make sure it is in good order and not liable to snap or break. Training works best when you dedicate a couple of short sessions 10 to 15 minutes twice a day to it. Try to train at times when the dog is not tired, but also not bursting with pent-up energy. Karen Pryor. Publisher: Ringpress Books Consider expending your Boxer's energy before training sessions by allowing him 20 to 30 minutes of high-intensity physical activity. This will enable him to better focus on training. Try to train the dog in a place where there are few distractions, so that your Boxer puppy can focus his attention on you. This means avoiding places with other animals or people. Always begin training in your home or yard and build up to environments with more distractions e. Your commands need to be simple, short, clear and consistent. Don't lecture your dog; they're not human so they don't process language in the same way. Phrases like "I've told you not to do that" or "Please stop chewing on the table" will not work as they are too complicated. John Bradshaw. Publisher: Penguin Experts believe that a given dog registers the first part of the word as the most important, so longer commands such as "Sit Fido if you want a treat" are liable to confuse him. Just say the word "Sit" instead. In general, shouting at any dog is ineffective. This is especially true for Boxers who are hyper breed by nature. Use a firm but pleasant and upbeat voice when instructing your dog; don't yell or lose control. Dogs are very intuitive and will be able to sense your frustration and may react in kind. The tone of voice matters, especially since, again, dogs don't process language in the same way that humans do. So how you say something may mean as much if not more than what you say. Publisher: Penguin Boxers are playful by nature, and a light, breezy tone will not suffice; he will think you are just playing with him if you are not firm enough. Try using hand gestures at the same time as you issue verbal commands. For example, raise your hand at the same time as saying "Sit". Dog behaviorists believe that dogs look for multiple clues as to what we want them to do, which includes the command word, tone of voice, and body language. Admonishing a Boxer puppy too long after the incident is ineffective. If you need to admonish or correct your dog, it needs to be done during or within a few seconds of the act. Dogs will have forgotten the event within seconds of its occurrence, so it's key to address the behavior immediately in order to facilitate the retraining process. Boxers are notoriously stubborn and steadfast, so you may have to correct your puppy numerous times. Always be consistent in your commands and desires of the dog. This helps your dog to understand what is expected. Don't forget to enforce training when you are out and about, so that your dog doesn't just thinking that "Sit" and "Stay" are things he has to do in the yard or house. By enforcing commands in public places it helps your Boxers to understand he must obey under all circumstances. Leave no room for doubt about what is acceptable behavior for your Boxer puppy. If he is not allowed on the furniture, be consistent. Boxers won't understand the concept of "sometimes"; they are either permitted to lie on the couch or they are not. If you live with other people, make sure that everyone in the house is on board with the training program. Using different words for the same action will confuse the dog, disrupt the training already done, and ultimately delay progress. But at the moment, they need your guidance. For now, this includes sleeping next to you for the first few weeks, maybe even longer. Just have their crate or bed close to wherever you sleep. Our articles on sleeping through the night and establishing a nighttime routine will give you extra tips on getting through this phase. A puzzle toy or Kong will work great at making them feel like you leaving them is actually something quite fun. Toilet training All new puppy parents expect toilet training to be on the cards. It will help to remember your Boxer pup is a bit of a goofball. For now, we definitely want to let your pup get used to you and settle into their new home. Teach your puppy about surfaces — Different surfaces can feel strange to pups. Use surfaces like grass, moss, paving and sand. Basically, make their tail wag and we bet yours will too. Teach your Boxer their name. Teach your Boxer puppy to sit. Remember what we said about Boxers and their jumping? Recall — Trust us. Preventing resource guarding Resource guarding is where your dog fiercely protects something they have and will do everything they can to keep hold of it. Dogs can resource guard food, a toy, even a person. You can do this by teaching them that hands and touch can be a good thing. As always, back up your soft touches with some treats. Remember that consent is also a thing with dogs! Never force your Boxer to be handled or pick them up against their wishes. Boxer Dogs are great family pets. They can often be referred to as the clown of dogs because of their joyful personality and clumsy behaviour, which can be very entertaining! They are a loyal companion and make great guard dogs, alerting their owners of anyone who approaches the property. Also, they tend to love affection from people they meet, including children, and enjoy an energetic run around with other dogs they come across! However, as with all breeds of dogs, Boxer Dog training from a young age is important. Boxer Dogs are a clever breed and can be quite trainable once you find the right reward to motivate them. The pros of this breed could go on forever. They really are amazing dogs. However, one of the main things people need to consider with this breed is their high energy levels! If you do not have a particularly active lifestyle then the Boxer Dog may not be the right breed for you. Boxers are highly energetic and require lots of exercise and mental stimulation throughout the day. If you are unable to dedicate time to put into exercising your Boxer Dog or finding ways to give mental stimulation, then you will find it exceedingly difficult to train and get along well with your dog. They also hold a reputation for being stubborn. This can cause problems for when you are trying to get them to do something. You need to have a lot of patience and persistence for Boxer puppy training. They are quick learners but you have to get through that stubbornness first in order to train them really well. Boxer Dogs are really energetic! Many people worry that training their new dog is going to be hard. Here are our top 10 tips for training Boxer Dogs to help you along your way… Make sure to exercise before training Boxers are an energetic breed and can become distracted easily. To help focus their attention on to you, exercise them before a training session. Discover what your dog likes When starting your Boxer puppy training, rewards are crucial. Every Boxer Dog is different and, as a result, they will all be motivated by different rewards. For example, some prefer treats and some prefer toys. You need to find out what your dog prefers and use that as a reward. If your dog likes treats, find their favourite treat. If your dog likes toys, find their favourite game. You can use these as rewards for good behaviour, which will make training sessions far easier! Reward Accordingly Depending on the exercise you and your dog are doing, you need to reward accordingly when it comes to Boxer Dog training. For example, if you are training your dog to walk to heel down the road, it may not be a good idea to reward your dog with a game of fetch. Focus on the good stuff Even though your Boxer may exhibit unwanted behaviour sometimes, you still need to focus on the good behaviour. As we said before, Boxer Dogs are stubborn, so reward their good behaviour and you will motivate them to do it more. The more you reward the good behaviour, the more likely it is that it will happen again. Motivation This is a similar point when it comes to Boxer Dog training. Boxers are known to be stubborn, but if we motivate them then they are more likely to do what we ask them to do. Using their favourite treats and other rewards is the best way to do this. So, we need to structure regular play times in for them. Dogs naturally want to play in the evening after their meal. You may notice that at some point in the evening they get a surge of energy and bounce around and want to play. This is a good time to play with them. One, two, three, and go Boxers are a very sociable breed and often get caught up with wanting to play with other dogs. To help with Boxer Dog training and for them to understand that they do not have to stay and play with every dog, you can teach them the 3-second rule. The rule is they can only meet for three seconds and then they are called away. This allows them a brief amount of time to say hello and then come back to you. If you do this enough, you will condition your dog to say hello and then walk on, making your walks a lot less hassle! Change Direction Boxers can be quite excitable when taking them out for walks and they may pull on the lead. To help combat this, you can change direction every time your Boxer Dog walks in front of you. This key point in Boxer dog training will teach them to follow you. And, if you reward them when they are well behaved and next to you, they will learn that they will get treats when they are beside you. Consistency is key It is very important to be consistent with the rules you are setting in place when it comes to Boxer puppy training. If you do not want your dog on the sofa but someone else allows it, then you will confuse your dog. Everyone in the household has to be reading off the same page in order for your dog to understand what it is you want from them. Set clear rules, and make sure everyone sticks to them! Learning to settle Teaching your dog to settle and relax is important for them so that not only can they unwind and relax, but they also understand how they should behave when you have visitors. This is when your dog lays down but rocks their hips over to one side. When your dog is in this position you can reward them and pair it with the word settle. If you wanted to take it a step further you can teach them to do this in their bed. Taking the time to teach them this key skill will really help the harmony in your home! Training should be started as soon as possible with Boxer pups. Among the wide range of dog breeds, Boxers are known to be one of the most trustworthy and intelligent. Their suspicion of strangers, alertness, agility, and strength make them formidable guard dogs. Because of their sturdiness and robust personality, they have been employed occasionally on police and military operations. These strong and intelligent animals have also been used as service dogs, guide dogs for the blind, and therapy dogs. These canines have interesting traits, in spite of their menacing appearance, that make them easy to take care of and a wonderful family favorite. It is essential to make yourself aware of the type of dog that you are going to handle, as well as the right time to start training your puppy. Ideally, Boxer training is not initiated until the Boxer pup turns three weeks old. During this period, he is able to learn how to obey simple commands which will make the upcoming training more effective. Furthermore, Boxer owners must know the various characteristics that this type of canine possesses. The character of the Boxer is of the greatest importance and demands great attention. Boxers are renowned for their great love and faithfulness to their master and households. They are harmless in the family, but distrustful of strangers; bright and friendly at play, but brave and determined when aroused. The Boxer's intelligence and willing tractability, its modesty, and cleanliness make it a highly desirable family dog and cheerful companion. This breed is extremely loyal, and is never mean or treacherous even in its old age. However, you must keep an eye on the precipitating factors for his anguish when it does appear and find out the reason for his unpleasant behavior right away, so that his frustration does not become part of his personality. TIP 2: Socialization is vital. Boxer dogs need interaction during the entire training process. Boxer puppies, in general, love to fool around, be with other human beings, and need some form of recreation. If integrated into the training environment, your dog will grow up more responsible. Boxers do not like being loners. They need to socialize with others just like humans. If not properly socialized or interacted with on a regular basis, Boxer aggression problems such as biting, chasing and barking loudly might arise unexpectedly and be difficult to correct. TIP 3: Providing regular exercise is absolutely essential. Boxer training should also include having your dog perform exercises. It can be a kind of sport or any outdoor activity. The key is to keep him active and agile, which helps him manage his energy levels when indoors. This exercise can be anything from a nice afternoon walk to playing a sport with him such as tossing a ball or frisbee. Boxers enjoy moving around, frolicking, and playing for hours. More movement means more strength and vigor for your dog. TIP 4: You are the alpha dog! During Boxer training you get to assume the role of a leader. It is imperative that your dog always treat you as his master and have no control over you. Make yourself the Alpha dog, especially during leash training. Leaders should be strict and dominant especially when setting rules. You must have the power over him and not allow him to overtake you. Adhering to this strict regimen until your dog fully learns and understands what behavior is acceptable and required will be worthwhile when taking him for a walk or to a dog park for exercise. Want to learn how to save on veterinary care? Click here TIP 5: Use a reward system. If your Boxer has been conforming well to the rules you have taught him during training, praise him often. Positive reinforcement is also an important element in Boxer leash training. You may give him his favorite bite-sized treat for being a good dog. Foods, toys, and telling him "Good job! Just as important as praise is remembering that if he misbehaves, you should just correct him and not punish. Punishing him violently or excessively may trigger Boxer aggression problems in the form of biting and scratching. The whole idea here is to repay him for his excellence and to reprimand in a firm but friendly manner. TIP 6: Whenever possible, spend extra time with your Boxer, beyond the training sessions. Some owners who do Boxer training might not appreciate the significance of the amount of time shared with their dogs. Insure that you allot time for your pup beyond the training to reassure him you love him and that he is your friend and companion and member of the family. Keeping your dog company is one way to bring your relationship with him to the next level, as well as increasing the success of the training. Avoid letting him feel unwanted or neglected. TIP 7: Teach your Boxer basic tricks. In Boxer training, teaching your dog a new skill is also important. As he learns a trick or two, it will not only impress friends and family, but also helps to increase your dog's mental development and obtain his trust easier. Sit, stand, roll, and kneel are a few examples of basic tricks you can teach your canine. These tricks just need patience and perseverance and he will grow into a very clever dog. TIP 8: Visit your veterinarian for help when needed. Certain problems may come up while training your Boxer. In this case, seek help from your vet for experts in your area familiar with this particular breed. Some of the issues such as proper crate training, ways to prevent Boxer anxiety and how to keep him from jumping on other people might require some extra help. The greatest tip for training your Boxer will be to approach him with patience, persistence and lots of love. Your Boxer will become a remarkably well trained dog, and a wonderful member of your family. Ready to start saving money on pet wellness care? WhatsApp If you own a pet dog, one of your key priorities should be training it. It has also been noted that the earlier you start training your dog, the easier it would be to do so. You can train your dog a number of commands when it is quite young. Furthermore, every breed is different and they all have varying personality traits. Today, we will be talking about dog training the popular Boxer dog breed. Boxer Dog A medium-sized guard dog that originally came from Germany, the Boxer is one of the most popular choices as pets today. This breed has a box-shaped face, with a squarish jaw and muscular body which makes it quite good-looking. But they are not only friendly companions. They are also extremely intelligent, intuitive, alert, and patient; all traits making them a very popular breed. In addition to being family dogs, they can be raised as guard dogs, service dogs, and therapy dogs, and will also help owners in many other activities- if trained to do so. Are Boxer Puppies Easy to Train? They are intelligent dogs, who are extremely willing to learn provided that the training process begins at the right time and in the correct manner. Make sure that you do not neglect training your boxer puppy because this breed has a high-energy level. Without learning the commands, your boxer puppy might develop bad habits or become overly hyper, aggressive, or even fearful. However, there are some tips that will greatly help dog owners in achieving success while training. Training the Boxer Early On When it comes to Boxer puppies, it is best to begin the training sessions within the first 20 weeks of their life. You have to start defining boundaries, setting rules, and assigning them their role in the initial stages of life. So, start with basic commands as soon as you can. This does not mean you can start professional training when the boxer puppy is only a few weeks old. Different obedience training should be started at different stages. While some of them are advised super early, others can be started when the pup is around 6 months old. However, Boxers learn best and quickest when they are taught early in life. This should be started as soon as possible for Boxers. However, remember that the boxer puppy is still young and scared, so you have to be extremely soft and never scold him. Start training by taking it to the potty spot around mins after a meal and stand and wait there till the puppy eliminates. You have to start building a regular potty training schedule and overtime, you will see how your boxer dog follows a consistent routine themselves. You can also teach them voice commands from the start as the dog can easily pick these too. So, potty train your dog as a start and then slowly add more commands. Proper crate training is also important for teaching responsibility and good behavior to them. When the boxer is three to four months old, you can start teaching your dog these commands. Remember to use food treats as a way of rewarding them every time they understand your voice cues. The best training method is giving your dog lots of praise and reinforce good behavior with a reward system. Leash Training Boxer Dogs All dog breeds must be taught how to stay on the leash and get used to it. You will be taking your dog for walks regularly, and using the leash is the only way to control them while they are out. Boxer dog training cannot be complete without this important lesson. Make sure that you have a suitable and comfortable collar and leash for your boxer. Again, keep a tasty treat with you when you are on a walk and offer it whenever the dog stays by your side. Remember, these sessions should be kept short and positive. You should constantly lure it towards yourself so it learns to walk with you. When it starts to act like a devil and keeps pulling away, then ignore it. When your dog comes back to you, reward it. Always troubleshoot related leash behavior problems by sticking to this strategy. Crate Training For Boxers Your dog must know how to stay in a crate happily. You can teach them to do so by providing them a large and comfortable crate. When you start to crate train your Boxer, you can expect some crying and whining initially. Puppies tend to cry a lot in the first few nights. But you must stay strong and pull yourself through no matter how your pup reacts. So the golden rule is, you are not to allow the puppy out of the crate until it stops crying on its own. Keep practicing this and soon, your doggo will be totally fine. When you finally open the crate, keep a treat ready so your dog knows it did a good job. Importance of Proper Socialization In successful boxer dog training, socialization also plays a key role. Boxers need to be given the opportunity to interact and get along with other human beings. Simply spending time with their dog trainer or owner is not adequate for them. This will help to prevent aggression issues like biting or chasing as well as barking loudly. This should be integrated with puppy training early on as it is much harder to correct such problems later on when you have an adult dog. Who is the Alpha dog? Before you begin puppy training, you must know that dogs have a pack mentality. This means that there is only one alpha, who is their leader. And this alpha leader should always be you, the owner! Dominance training is an important approach that is often recommended while training the boxer breed. No matter what you are training, let your puppy know what is acceptable and what is not. You will be the rewarding giver and the commander at all times. Make sure to always exude confidence and control with your demeanor and voice, because dogs can easily pick these cues. This entire approach is very effective in training your dog well. Spend time with your Boxer Dog Although it is important to be the alpha, you also need to take on the role of a loving owner. Boxers love attention and time, so it is important that you also have separate fun, playtime with them-apart from training sessions. This allows your dog to see you in a different light as well. It helps you bond with them better, and as these dogs are so loyal and affectionate, it will also help achieve more training success. After all, boxers are known to be obedient and faithful to their owner, especially when they have developed a deep connection with them. We recommend you to always visit the veterinarian if your Boxer is facing behavioral issues that stand out as odd to you or if you are having too much trouble training it. This is to ensure that your doggo is fine and not facing any other issues you may be unaware of. Boxers are a family favorite and a highly recommended canine companion for everyone. Using our tips, you can train it to be an excellent partner who will be forever obedient and extremely well-behaved. We hope this guide was helpful to you. Enjoy training your Boxer pup!

Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in Michigan? I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. Step 1: Constructing the Main Body of Your German Shepherd Sketch For all of our animal drawing tutorials, we always begin by using construction lines to lay down the basic shape and proportions of our animal. Beginning with the largest part of the german shepherd, we are going to use an elongated oval to represent the main body shape. In this very first step, you need to be aware of the final shape of your german shepherd sketch. The german shepherd is facing to the left of the canvas, and as a result, this side of the oval should be higher than the other. This slope will help you nail the sloping hips in your german shepherd drawing. Our top drawing tip for this first step is to make sure that your main body construction oval is at the very center of your canvas. You will be adding legs and a head to this oval, so you need plenty of space! Step 2: Constructing the Head of Your German Shepherd Sketch This second step in our realistic german shepherd drawing tutorial is very simple. For the head, you can use a construction circle that is ever-so-slightly oval. Place this head circle just above the right end of the main body oval. You can see on our example below that our circle is slightly oval and that it is angled downwards, with one end facing the bottom left of the canvas. Step 3: Constructing the Muzzle of Your German Shepherd Drawing If you take another look at the finished drawing at the top of this tutorial, you will see that the mouth of the german shepherd is open slightly. In this step, we are going to use construction lines to lay the foundations for this muzzle. Step 4: Constructing the Ears of Your Dog One of the most characteristic features of german shepherds is their large and upright ears. The ear towards the front of the head is further away from us, and it will therefore be slightly narrower than the back one because it appears smaller and because the base will be slightly hidden by the ear closest to us. To capture the joint for this realistic german shepherd drawing, you are going to use a total of six lines for the leg closest to us, and four for the back one. Once again, we need to remember to consider the perspective of our drawing in this step. The leg that is closest to the left side of the canvas is further away from us, and it is therefore slightly shorter and the majority of it is hidden by the leg closest to us. Begin with the whole leg, which is the one that is closest to us. This line can be slightly angled, but not too much. Now, draw a smaller line that angles slightly towards the front of the german shepherd. To complete this leg, take another line down from the main body at more of an angle, and then draw a matching short line. You can separate the top and bottom parts of the leg with a single line, and then draw an oval at the end of the leg to represent the foot. For the second leg, simply draw the far-left line that curves slightly at the top as it leaves the main body oval. Start with the back leg that is further away from us, using a line that curves slightly towards the back of the canvas. Add the ankle joint using a short line that curves towards the front of the canvas, before finishing the leg with a longer foot oval, as this foot is side-on. Complete the back lines of this leg in the same way. For the very back leg, you can simply repeat these steps, making the leg thicker and more curved. The ankle joint can also be less curved towards the front of the canvas. At the end of this step, you will see the german shepherd shape coming through quite clearly. In the next step, you are going to use this basic shape to create the final outline of your realistic german shepherd drawing. Step 7: Drawing the Final Outline In this step, you can use all the previously drawn construction lines to help you outline the final body of your german shepherd drawing. Begin with the head, using a curved line to hide the ear that is furthest out, and then outlining the ears with a more realistic shape. Add some inner curved lines to create the inner eardrum. You can trace the muzzle construction lines quite closely and add a small nose patch. Add some bulges to the bottom neckline, and then take this line down to the legs and paws. You can trace the legs quite closely, but use some short strokes along the back of them to create the impression of fur. You can continue to use these short strokes to trace the belly of your german shepherd sketch into the first back leg. Use the same short fur strokes to outline the front of the very back thigh and adding in a fluffy tail between the back legs. Finish outlining the back legs in a single line and then take this line all the way up the back to join with the head. When you are finished with this step and you are happy with your outline, you can erase any of the remaining construction lines. Step 8: Adding the Detailing and Fur In this step, you are going to add fur detailing throughout the body of your german shepherd sketch. You can also add some shading details to the teeth and the edge of the tongue. To create additional realism in the face of your german shepherd drawing, you can add some shading around the eyes and in the ear curves. To draw the fur, it is important to consider the shape of your german shepherd. You want the hairlines to flow in the same direction as the body does. For example, the hair on the neck and back should flow downwards towards the back of the canvas. On the belly, tail, and back legs, you can direct the flow of the fur downwards. For the most realistic german shepherd drawing, make sure that the hair lengths on the head are the shortest, and as you move down the body, they should get longer. Step 9: Adding the First Coat of Color To get a realistic coloring for your german shepherd drawing, you need to layer up a few different shades. We begin by adding a single light base color, and then we will add a second color coat and shading, and highlights to create depth and dimension. For the base color of your realistic german shepherd drawing, choose a light shade of brown or caramel. You can use this shade to color the entire body of your german shepherd. Step Adding Shadows For this step, choose a slightly darker and warmer shade of brown to add some shading to your german shepherd sketch. Step Adding Highlights The highlight shade you want to use for this is a light beige color. Use a soft brush to apply this highlight around the top of the ears, just above the shoulder, along the back of the back leg, on the belly, and on the tops of the paws. You can also add a few patches of this highlight shade throughout the body. Step Adding the Second Coat of Color The second coat color you are going to use to create your realistic german shepherd drawing is black. Color the nostrils with a lighter shade of grey, and use this same grey to add shading to the inside and outside of the ears, and around the eye. Step Finalizing the Facial Details For this final detailing step, you are going to need a shade of light red, white, and brown. Begin by coloring the tongue with a light shade of red and adding a small highlight to the side with a touch of white. Color all of the visible teeth with your white shade, and add a little dot to the eye. Finally, for the last facial detail, use your shade of brown to color in the eyes of your german shepherd. Step Finishing Your Realistic German Shepherd Drawing For this very final step, you can make your drawing even more realistic by removing the outline and tracing over your fur strokes with your paint. Use the color that corresponds to that particular part of your german shepherd, and cover any outlines or fine lines that disrupt the realism of your drawing. Congratulations for finishing your realistic german shepherd drawing! We really hope that you have enjoyed the drawing process and that you are happy with your final sketch. Now that you know the basic process of how to draw a german shepherd, you can modify the tutorial to draw other types of dogs.

Beverly shared her own experience, "Controversially, I named one of my dogs after my lovely and much missed Mum. Betty is such a lovely name and If I'd had a daughter I would have carried on the name that way. Mum loved dogs too, so I am sure she'd have approved. Beverly told us, "My mother had a wicked sense of humour. She used to name pups we bred after my brother's posh girlfriends as they always had unusual names. But he was not very happy when a new one visited for the first time and heard mum shout 'Cordelia get off the sofa your feet are filthy'. That took some explaining. I told Jilly Cooper that story and she wrote it down and said she was going to work it into one of her books! Here are our top boy dog names. Check out these super cute Pet ID Tags! If you want to go for something tried and true, pick from our most popular girl dog names list. If you don't want to always hear "that's my dog's name too," avoid the popular names. Choose from our unique female dog names list. Here are some other factors to keep in mind as you weigh your options. Getting Your Dog's Attention The best names to get your dog's attention have hard consonants and use only one to two syllables. Longer names, with three to four syllables, are harder for dogs to distinguish. They're also less likely to attract their attention. Take this into consideration and it will help you once you start training your dog! Confused Commands Avoid names that sound like standard basic commands. They could not understand if you're calling her name or issuing a command. Once again, this could make it very challenging to train your pup. You may find a name you love in this list or come across a few names that inspire your creative process: Daisy. New dog owners are always highly concerned with making sure that their new furry friend will have everything he or she needs for a happy life, but are also worried that the training process may not go perfectly. One of the most important steps for bringing home and training a new Labrador pup is selecting the right cage for the job, and there are a few ways to help you find it. Types of Dog Crates When most dog owners think of crates, the standard wire ones often come to mind first. In general, there are about three other types of crates other than wire; these include plastic, soft-sided, and the more stylish options such as wood. You will need to choose the type of dog crate based on reasons other than aesthetic appeal, if you have a dog that may be a bit more destructive. Wire dog crates are most common because of their many advantages, such as visibility and ease of cleaning. Wire crates also allow for better air flow than other models, and often can fold for travel as well. Some models of wire crates are adaptable in size, with panel inserts that allow for room to grow. Plastic crates are quite similar to wire crates, with added portability and lighter weight. These typically offer more shelter for the dogs, and both wire and plastic can be covered to provide warmth and to decrease visibility for dogs that need a more secure feeling. Each of these are difficult for escape, and are the two most popular types of indestructible cages. These are great for Labrador puppies, as long as you have the right size! Soft-sided and stylish crates often provide much less security, but can be perfectly fine depending on the pup. Dog Crate Sizes Choosing the size of the crate is just as important as choosing the type. Utilization of a dog crate is most effective when the size is just right for the dog, allowing crate training to take place efficiently. Size is actually the most important factor when choosing a crate. Many new dog owners will make the mistake of buying a crate much larger than needed, in the belief that they are doing their dog a favor. A crate that is too large will only serve to set back the process of crate training. As a pup, crate training is often used to potty train the dog, along with making him or her feel secure. The problem with a too-large crate is that the puppy or dog would then have the additional space to use one end as a bedroom and the opposing side as the bathroom. A crate that is tailored to the size of the dog will keep him or her from soiling anywhere in the crate, based on instinct alone. In the long run, the perfect crate size for a dog is one that allows him or her enough room to sit or stand up straight, turn around easily, and lie down stretched out. To avoid purchasing a second cage for adulthood, many cages come with an option to reduce the interior size for the pup. The option to build up the size as the pup grows allows for more flexibility. While the panels may not be fully indestructible, they are still much easier to replace in comparison to purchasing an entire new cage. Leave a comment Your email address will not be published.

Provide access to fresh water: Diarrhea can lead to dehydration, so make sure your French Bulldog has access to clean, fresh water at all times. Encourage them to drink small amounts regularly to stay hydrated. Adjust their : Consider withholding food for hours to give their digestive system a rest. However, ensure they still have access to water. After the fasting period, reintroduce a bland diet consisting of easily digestible foods such as boiled chicken and rice. Gradually transition back to their regular diet once the diarrhea improves. Probiotics and digestive aids: Probiotics can help restore the balance of beneficial gut bacteria. Consult your veterinarian about appropriate probiotic supplements for your French Bulldog. Additionally, digestive aids such as pumpkin puree without additives can help firm up the stool. Maintain hygiene and cleanliness: Clean up any accidents promptly to prevent the spread of bacteria. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling your Frenchie to avoid potential transmission of any pathogens. Your veterinarian can evaluate your French Bulldog, perform any necessary tests, and prescribe appropriate medication or treatment. Remember, diarrhea can be caused by various factors, including dietary indiscretion, dietary changes, infections, parasites, or underlying health conditions. There can be several reasons why your French Bulldog is not eating. Here are some possible explanations: Illness or pain: Loss of appetite can be a sign of an underlying illness or discomfort. Stress or anxiety: Dogs can experience a loss of appetite due to stress, changes in routine, or environmental factors. Events like moving to a new home, the presence of new pets, or loud noises can cause temporary appetite loss. Providing a calm and comfortable environment can help alleviate stress and encourage eating. Dental problems: Dental issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, or oral pain can make it uncomfortable for your Frenchie to eat. Inspect their mouth for any signs of dental problems, and if you suspect an issue, consult with a veterinarian for an oral examination. Recent vaccination or medication: Some dogs may experience a temporary loss of appetite after receiving vaccinations or starting a new medication. If this persists for more than a day or two, consult with your veterinarian to ensure there are no adverse reactions. Food preferences or boredom: Dogs can be selective eaters or get bored with their food. Adding variety or engaging in interactive feeding activities can also stimulate their interest in eating. Dogs can be sensitive to sudden dietary changes. Gradually transitioning to a new food over a week or two can help avoid digestive upset and encourage eating. Posted on. Your French bulldog may not want to lie down Unusual movements Pain in the neck or throat Esophagitis will usually mean a trip to the vet for your Frenchie and the condition can usually be managed with medicine or a change in diet. A high in carbs and low fat diet that contains low protein foods with no allergens in them can help heal the oesophagus. Antacids may be prescribed along with other drugs to help your French bulldog swallow. In extreme cases a balloon catheter can be installed to help manage the narrowing of the oesophagus. This condition is often hereditary and diagnosed by barium swallows and x-rays, so again this will mean another trip to the vet for your four-legged friend. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this problem and will have to be managed over the life of your Frenchie. Managing it is not particularly easy. It requires your dog to be in a vertical and upright position whilst feeding and drinking. Hiatal hernia A hiatal hernia is usually detected when your dog is exercising or particularly excited. This causes an opening in the diaphragm called the oesophageal hiatus which the oesophagus passed through prior to entering the stomach. A hernia can sometimes develop in this location due to an issue caused by one of the below: A protrusion of the oesophagus Lower oesophageal sphincter Part of the stomach A hiatal hernia will mean a trip to the vet again for your French bulldog and quite possibly some surgery. Anti-inflammatory drugs can also be used to help reduce inflammation inside the oesophagus. However medication will only reduce the frequency and severity of the hiatal hernia but will not remove it totally. Surgery may be needed to put the oesophagus and stomach back to what is considered the normal position. Difference between Vomit and Regurgitation Vomiting can sometimes be confused with regurgitation. Vomiting Vomiting is the involuntary forceful expulsion of digested food, water, or bile from the stomach or upper part of the intestines and causes the abdominal muscles to contract. Vomiting may or may not be accompanied by nausea and drooling. Regurgitation Regurgitation, on the other hand, is a passive process, which does not involve any abdominal contractions and even nausea. Regurgitation is a symptom rather than a disorder and involves only the contents of the mouth and esophagus. The food or water that is expelled does not make it to the stomach and is simply ejected from the esophagus soon after eating. Regurgitation happens more often when the french bulldog has consumed their food too quickly. Why do French Bulldogs Regurgitate and Vomit? French Bulldogs are a sensitive breed with sensitive stomachs and sometimes regurgitate food or stomach fluids. French Bulldogs are brachycephalic and find it difficult to eat and digest food properly. There could be myriads of reasons that make French Bulldogs throw up. Esophageal Disorders There are a lot of esophageal disorders that can cause regurgitation in French Bulldogs. Megaesophagus Megaesophagus is the dilation of the esophagus due to a lack of peristaltic activity. The issue can be congenital or can be acquired later in life. Hiatal Hernia In this condition, the upper part of the stomach pushes through the hiatus small opening in the diaphragm through which esophagus passes into the chest. Esophagitis Esophagitis is the inflammation or irritation of the esophagus and is a result of acid reflux, bacterial or viral infections, or a side effect of certain medications. Brachycephalic syndrome Brachycephalic syndrome can lead to gagging, vomiting, and regurgitation of undigested food. French Bulldogs have the soft tissues of their nose and throat squeezed into a small space. This makes permanent narrowing and obstruction of the airways making breathing difficult for them. So, they breathe through their mouths while eating and inhale a lot of air inside causing them to have a bloated and upset stomach. Food Allergies French Bulldogs have delicate tummies and can be allergic to a lot of foods. Food allergies can be developed over time also. The food which your Frenchie would have eaten for years may start irritating his stomach. Food allergies can also be accompanied by diarrhea, although not always. Food allergies in Frenchies can cause other symptoms such as ear infections, itchy skin, watery eyes, dull coat, and bloody looking nails. Food allergies are more common in young puppies than adults. We have everything you need to know on the French bulldog diet here to help you out! Pharyngeal Dysphagia This is a swallowing disorder causing your dog to cough or gag when trying to swallow. Intestinal Parasites Intestinal parasites can cause gastrointestinal-related problems in your dog including vomiting and diarrhea 6. Inflammatory Bowel Disease This condition causes the inflammation of the walls of the gastrointestinal tract and can result in vomiting along with diarrhea, decreased appetite, and weight loss. Gastroenteritis Gastroenteritis results in intermittent episodes of vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. This condition causes the inflammation and irritation of the stomach and the intestines. Ingesting Plants Eating any plant or grass can cause mild gastrointestinal distress, vomiting, and diarrhea in dogs. Eating Spoiled Food Just as humans, eating contaminated or spoiled food can make your French bulldog vomit. Change the Bowls French Bulldogs eat exceptionally fast making them gag, choke, and vomit. The most effective way of slowing down the pace of eating for these speed-eaters could be done by changing the bowls with less leeway to pick the food. Slow feeder bowl or puzzle toy These make your French bulldog work for their foods and take small bites. This not only slows down their pace of eating but also keeps them entertained. Slow feeders are easily available at both online and offline stores. Putting a Toy in the Bowl with their Food Having a toy in the bowl with food will make your Frenchie work around it and eat small bites because of the constrained space. Although you have to make sure whatever toy you have put inside the bowl is not swallowed. Hand-Feeding your Frenchie This can be challenging and time-consuming for many pet parents but can also be tried. Give Frequent Meals If somebody stays at home all the time then serving small meals at short intervals throughout the day can slow down the eating process. Feeding small meals frequently throughout the day can make your French Bulldog less likely to gobble down their food during their mealtimes knowing that another meal is coming soon. Giving food that uses proteins from high-quality proteins can help your French Bulldog have a healthy digestive system and avoid making their digestive sensitivities awful. There should also be a right balance of fiber in their diet, to make sure your Frenchie absorbs nutrients easily without causing any stress on their digestive system. Feed your French Bulldog a high-quality food consisting of natural ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, vegetables, and fruits. Avoid giving food to your Frenchie containing allergenic grains such as wheat, corn and soy and also meat by-products. Probiotics Your French Bulldog can benefit from probiotics which helps in digestion and also strengthen the immune system. Probiotics inhibit the growth of harmful bacterias and also provide many other benefits to their gut. Make sure your French Bulldog gets probiotics formulated specifically for dogs to ensure they get the right types of bacteria. Digestive Enzymes Digestive enzymes help in breaking down fats, protein, and carbohydrates to improve their assimilation in the small intestine. They also combat inflammation and swelling. As your dog gets older, the pancreas is unable to produce sufficient amounts of digestive enzymes, which help breakdown the food to make it easier for the dog to absorb the nutrients. French Bulldogs are generally known for having sensitive stomachs, which is evident in their reactions to various meals over time. However, in order to gain a better understanding of why your dog is throwing up, it is important to ask yourself some pertinent questions. These questions should ideally cover aspects such as when the problem started and whether it is ongoing or has been happening for weeks. Once you address these issues you can move on to the next step of consulting your vet who will physically examine your dog and assess its medical history. There are different instances and reasons that make it possible to figure out why a Frenchie is vomiting. Since your precious companion does not have the ability to tell you what is going on, getting to the root of the problem will require some investigations. You can expect your vet to find out whether your dog has been refusing to eat, ingesting plants, retching or gagging without anything actually coming out, vomiting bile or food and when the vomiting began. Chronic vomiting can go on for a couple of weeks, which is why many people do not seek professional help when their dog throws up a few times during the week and continues to behave in a normal manner. However, if the situation is continuous, it is advisable to get in touch with your vet promptly. Bloodwork is often useful for diagnosing a variety of conditions as well as other tests that are essential for figuring out the underlying cause of the problem. If your dog tried out a new treat recently or you suddenly made some adjustments to their diet, these are factors that can lead to vomiting. It is also a good idea to keep them away from food that contains substantial amounts of dairy products and eggs. Assessing Different Scenarios Esophageal Issues French bulldogs typically have esophagi that are not properly formed. Consequently, this may result in challenges when they eat and swallow along with digestive problems and taking in excessive amounts of air while eating. Esophagitis is a disorder that consists of the esophagus being inflamed because of acid reflux or a food allergy. Symptoms of this disorder include extreme pain during eating, pain in the neck and back, loss of appetite, avoiding lying down, excess drooling, constant coughing and weight loss. Other esophageal disorders and problems include dilation in the esophagus, which manifests as a weakened system that is unable to transport food to the stomach. The food remains inside the esophagus and this usually occurs among older dogs. Exercising after Eating Frenchies and their fragile stomachs cannot effectively handle rigorous activities immediately after eating. It is important to ensure that your dog has lots of time to digest their food before they exercise or start running around. Unfortunately, their distinct features make them susceptible to inhaling a lot of air when they eat their food too fast. This may lead to straining their intestines and causing them to vomit. You can address this challenge by providing small but regular meals that will enable the dog to chew slowly while making sure they do not plough through their food due to hunger. You can expect your pet to develop various allergies as time goes on, which means they are likely to become allergic to food that you have been serving them for years. Vomiting regularly after meals is among the key symptoms of food allergies in Frenchies. They also tend to diarrhea and other symptoms such as loss of fur, watery eyes and itchy skin may also occur. If you suspect that your Frenchie has food allergies, it important to monitor them closely and avoid any items that they react negatively to. In case any of the aforementioned symptoms worsen, you should take your dog to a vet as soon as you can. Tips for handling a vomiting French Bulldog If your Frenchie is vomiting in the morning, keep a close eye on them to make sure that they are breathing normally. After throwing up suddenly, they might be scared and require you to sit next to them to provide comfort and assurance. When vomiting occurs after a distressing period in their lives, becoming overheated, playing too much or eating too fast, you probably do not have to be concerned. However, if it happens suddenly or often, you may need to take your Frenchie to the vet for thorough observation. The following are some worthwhile tips for giving your French Bulldog tender care after vomiting: One of the priorities when caring for a vomiting Frenchie is to do your best to stop them from throwing them up anymore. You can achieve this by keeping them sufficiently hydrated with water throughout the day. Taking this approach will help to prevent them from throwing up continuously. After at least 12 hours of fasting, you can give your dog a small portion of bland food such as boiled carrots and rice. Rather than providing their regular diet, it is advisable to keep it simple and stay away from oily red meat or fish that contains a lot of fat. Re-introduce the usual diet after the problem subsides. It is essential to monitor your pet even when they start eating their usual diet again. This enables you to determine whether there are any underlying problems. Vomiting may be the result of consuming a poisonous substance or being seriously ill. If your dog is vomiting repeatedly, the responsible thing to do in this situation is visit a vet. Minimizing vomiting in French Bulldogs There are food bowls that are specially designed to help Frenchies eat their food at a slower pace or to eat without taking in a lot of air. Giving your dog a minimum of 20 minutes to digest their food before allowing them to go out and play can minimize the risk of vomiting. You should also dissuade them from being active right after their meals. If your dog has food allergies, it can be helpful to purchase dog food that is specifically formulated for their sensitive stomachs and intolerance levels. However, you may also consider talking to a vet before making dietary changes, especially sudden ones. In summary There are numerous reasons for vomiting, which is why it can be challenging to obtain a conclusive diagnosis. Along with keenly watching your pooch, it is important to gather enough information regarding how frequently the vomiting happens, diarrhea, dehydration, weight loss and lethargy. When a Frenchie vomits once and continues eating normally with regular bowl movements, this can probably be classified as a rare incident. Consulting your vet is an opportunity to examine your Frenchie for different issues. In case your dog has any physical or underlying problems, the vet will be able to recommend the most ideal treatment solution to get the doggie back on track. French Bulldogs are vulnerable to digestive issues and vomiting due to various reasons. While vomiting is not an unusual occurrence, you can take a number of precautions to reduce the risks but in most situations, you have nothing serious to be concerned about. If vomiting in the morning happens constantly without a clear cause or your French Bulldog is miserable, taking them to the vet for assurance and a professional diagnosis will give both you and doggie peace of mind. A concussion is the most common form of brain trauma in dogs. Grainy Lumpy vomiting is vomit in which you can still distinguish pieces of the food and indicates that the food has not been in the stomach for very long. Respectively lumpy and grainy vomit often is related to food or something your Frenchie has eaten. This may mean that the Frenchie ate too rapidly or rushed around too fast after feeding. When your French Bulldog is vomiting and heaving, the food is partly digested, and very wet and grainy might be in the vomit and may have traces of blood present. The grains may look like old coffee grounds, and there may be real blood. In certain situations, liquid vomiting that is yellow or clear is a symptom of an entirely different medical problem that has no link whatsoever with the food being eaten. The main variation among liquid or semi-solid vomit would be that watery vomit is often a sign of a serious problem lurking beneath. At the same time, lumpy or grainy vomiting is more strongly related to something consumed. What Your Vet Will Do. To determine an appropriate diagnosis, vets may conduct various basic medical tests, such as blood testing, fecal examination, and x-rays. For certain cases, abdominal ultrasound can be advised to more thoroughly test vital organs more. Popular remedies for dog vomiting due to inflammation of the stomach or intestines include a soft diet and anti-nausea medications. Very severe conditions also require extensive care, such as medications, hospitalization with injectable drugs, and, in certain cases, operations. Selecting the right care plan for your sick Frenchie will more quickly remove many of your symptoms. When there are no other symptoms, it is recommended that meals be stopped for 24 hours. After this regulated abstinence, it is advised to gradually add water and soft, soft foods such as rice, roasted chicken, and low-fat or non-fat cottage cheese. You should contact your vet before you feed the bland eating plan. Roasted chicken has no fat and should be cooked without skin or seasoning. When your French Bulldog is on a specific allergen-free diet and vomits, the vet may suggest that you have them fast for a long time and only give limited amounts of their regular food. There are many causes of your French Bulldog throwing up that can not be avoided, but some could be if you obey certain guidelines: Abrupt changes in diet are a frequent source of gastrointestinal distress in dogs. Also, apply a gradual approach. Should not give small bones to your Frenchie. These are regularly involved in vomiting episodes. When you need to offer your Frenchie bones, large, uncooked types are less likely to split into sharp pieces. Prevent feeding table scraps. Most human foods are unhealthy for French Bulldogs, for example, bananas, raisins, chocolate, onions, garlic, popcorn, macadamias, and high fats. Scavenging raises the risk of foreign-body contamination and exposure to toxic substances. Keep your eye on an overly curious French Bulldog. You also might want to try to use a holster to keep them from having eaten anything they could find on your strolls. My puppy is throwing up fairly often. What do I do? Puppies from all dog breeds will occasionally throw up, as will adult dogs from time to time, but, from our experiences, it seems that Frenchies throw up more than most other breeds. The fact that they are brachycephalic short faced probably has a lot to do with this. Frenchies will tend to gulp water and their food which is why they are sometimes [OK, often times] gassy , and this also contributes to their propensity to throw up more than most other breeds. Based on our experience, if your puppy is throwing up a time or three a day, especially early on as they are getting accustomed to their new digs, it is nothing to worry about, especially if your puppy seems happy and healthy and is not losing weight. If they do gulp food and water, there are some food and water bowls on the market which will slow them down, and feeding your puppy smaller, more frequent meals can help. Sometimes, having dry food always available to them can also help as they will not feel a need to rush and gulp their food. As puppies age, they should throw up less and less frequently until it becomes a fairly rare occurrence. If they continue to throw up several times a day, there is a good possibility that your puppy might have a food allergy. We had one adult female which had a problem digesting the dry food, which we feed to all of our dogs, which has rice as the only grain, in addition to all of the other ingredients. We put her on a grain free diet and she did very well, eliminating the problems of throwing up and having loose stools. We also had one young Frenchie which had a problem with all of the dry food we tried, including grain free, so we tried her on a raw diet and this did the trick. The bottom line is that almost all Frenchies will occasionally throw up, so it is nothing to be alarmed about. However, if it is persistent and there are other signs that there is a problem, corrective action should be taken. It very well may be as simple as a diet change, but if this does not solve the problem, your vet should be consulted. Have More Questions?

Why Us Only a short few years ago, English Cream Golden Retrievers in America were rarely entrusted to breeders when European breeders thoroughly trained and mentored them. American Golden Retriever standards are still maintained in America, and that only by a handful of breeders truly breeding to the standard. Unfortuately, like the American Goldens, The English Cream Golden Retiever lines have recently fallen into the hands of breeders that are not even remotely interested in breeding to standard. Have you ever known someone that decided to breed their dog because they thought their dog was so great, that his lines needed to be passed on. Of course, that is no reason to breed a dog. There are many health tests, pedigree analytics and breed standards to meet. English Creams in recent years have been bred to small backyard gene pools or even regional gene pools that have produced weaker genetics, non-standard coat types, colors and temperaments not to the standard. We have put years of know-how, investment and careful consideration to make sure you get a breed-standard English Cream Golden Retriever. Our family works together as a team. We have a large family where everyone uses their talents in our family business. Dad is the glue that holds us all together. Mom keeps all the wheels running in the breeding business and the kids all use their specific talents, and have become experts at their "golden" puppy jobs over many years. Our Story We had a young family and had a dog bite happen to our then youngest son. After that happened, we found the English Golden Retrievers to be the perfect family dog. Coleen, of all the breeds out there, why did you decide to breed English Cream Golden Retrievers? I loved JJ fiercely, and then his son, Chipper. So dark that you knew you had an Irish Setter! After a brief internet search, I began to see a different Golden. The European, or more commonly called English Cream Golden caught my eye. Their round black eyes and nose spellbound me in stark contrast to their stunning cream-colored coat. That blocky head and stocky build became the Golden standard I would grow to love. William photo courtesy of Council House Goldens How long have you been breeding? The decision to breed Goldens happened when a breeder told me that they would soon become a thing of the past. Their popularity created a profitable market, and careless breeding became the rule rather than the exception. The drive to breed with intention and purpose drove me to ask questions and look for answers in the not so familiar places. The research and questions that began almost ten years ago remain with me and continue to influence every step I take. What sets me apart from other breeders? What does set me apart? Most breeders do health testing, and I do as well. Not many feed their dogs a species-appropriate raw diet, but I do. I choose classes from a Ph. I appreciate the conventional and unconventional approach to healthcare and carefully research all of the standards. The only skin I have in the game is the health and well-being of my dogs. Do these things make me different? Perhaps to some small degree. That sentiment expresses my goals as a breeder. Yesterday and today, my goals are health, temperament, and beauty. But, my knowledge of health, temperament, and beauty is ever-evolving. We try not to. Our girls have reputations; some have big litters, and some have average litters. We even accuse one of the girls of being stingy! Depending on the girl, I generally limit the reservations to three or four girls and three or four boys. To make matters more challenging, I never know how many girls and boys we are getting until they are here. This reservation thing has been known to keep me up at night. Waiting for a puppy is grueling. The waitlist can be up to a year and sometimes longer and is difficult for the family and us. Ever sat on a three-legged stool? You know, the short one with the big legs? I see health testing like that stool. The coefficient of inbreeding is another leg, and genetic testing via Paw Print Genetic makes the stool complete. Imagine my surprise when I was told that feeding dogs what wolves eat in the wild was what I should do. It was time to dig in and do one of my favorite things. I read books about the principles of the raw diet, written by veterinarians. I read about how kibble was made, the sourced ingredients and what a label reveals, and what it hides. Can anyone say controversy? The raging battle between some of the raw feeders and kibble feeders was both disappointing and revealing. I have been determined to stay true to my love of knowledge and my disdain for bickering by staying out of the time-sucking social media food fights. Today, I feed raw meat and bone and add eggs from our pastured chickens. I make kefir from our raw fresh milk and toss in a few homegrown garden veggies. The benefits are tangible and proven in the health profile of our adults and puppies. Kiah photo courtesy of Council House Goldens How do you figure out the best home for a puppy? No matter how detailed, the puppy application is inadequate in matching the perfect family with the perfect puppy. Phone visits and emails help round out the process. Hearing what a family hopes for in their new family member goes a long way in making a good match. Tell us about that. We have promised to give a puppy from each litter, or in some instances, an entire litter, to be raised by carefully selected foster families. We are empowered by the knowledge that our dogs are fit for a job such as this. Right of first refusal provides a pathway for families that can no longer keep a dog they got from us. We will take a dog back to ensure that no dog from our program is placed in a shelter. We have had three dogs come back home. In every case, the dogs were successfully rehomed and are living good lives. Did you know counting puppies before they are born is a thing? Experienced breeders tell the next generation breeder that an x-ray is safe and highly accurate in counting puppies once the female is 49 days pregnant. I remember reading and rereading that. Back to the research. I found an article noting cancer in pups as young as two years of age that had been exposed to x-ray before birth. I had to wonder about the effect of repeat radiation every time the female was exposed as well. Counting puppies with x-ray would not be used in the breeding program. Council House has grown beyond my expectations and abilities to manage everything. Thankfully, I have a family that is deeply committed to this work. Our dogs live with us in our homes. After all, Goldens are part human, right?! If that connection with their family is lost, our goal to keep the Golden into perpetuity is lost too. We are not offended by dog hair and allow them to join us on the couch while watching a movie or reading a book. No matter how big they get, they will always be lap dogs! Gabe x Josie puppies photo courtesy of Council House Goldens Thank you, Coleen, for sharing this information and all your wonderful photos with us. I know first-hand from meeting you, evaluating your litters and training the dogs you produce, that your program is a cut above the rest! american bulldog xl puppies for sale - These tiny little pups are loyal and loving and can fit just about anywhere! Also intelligent, the Teacup Poodle will keep you on your toes and carries many of the same characteristics as their standard sized parents. This breed is selectively bred and is a variation of the Toy Poodle. The only difference between the Toy Poodle and the Teacup Poodle is their size, so we can look to the Toy Poodle for a lot of information about the Teacup. Breed Origin The Poodle is one of the most popular dogs in the world and is in fact one of the oldest pure bred dogs. These dogs originated in Germany and were originally bred to be a working and gun dog that made the perfect hunting dog. The Poodle has a waterproof coat and great retrieving talents. Nowadays, this breed is more known as a lapdog rather than a working dog. They are bred in smaller breeds so that more people can enjoy having a Poodle as a best friend. The Teacup variation of this breed has been selectively bred from the Toy Poodle and must be under 9 inches in height and less than 6 pounds in weight to qualify as a Teacup. Teacup puppies are normally born in litters of one to two, although occasionally there can be more. They weigh around 2 pounds when born and will only grow to around 5 pounds once fully grown. They also are always under 9 inches in height. This is because of the selective breeding process and the fact that there are fewer dogs in every litter. Although there are no official breed standards, the general rule of thumb is that a Teacup Poodle is 9 inches in height and they weigh less than 6 pounds, whereas a Toy breed is less than 10 inches. Their breed is very elegant looking, no matter the size, and they always stand poised. Their eyes are also small, dark and are always alert and they have a long muzzle with floppy furry ears. Coat Their coat is curled and thick and they do not shed any fur. This means they are a hypoallergenic dog and are perfect for those with allergies. Unlike other Poodle mix dogs who may have a mixture of different fur colors, this dog only comes in solid colors. This way, you can determine whether you are being sold a purebred Poodle or not. They are extremely loving and make great companions for everyone, including individuals, families and the elderly. Because of their size, too, they fit into many different environments and will do well in apartments and in city living and also in large homes in the country or in open-spaced environments. Their exercise needs are not great, although they do get bored very easily and do not like to be left alone. If they are left alone for too long they will begin to suffer from separation anxiety and exhibit destructive behaviors. Lifespan The life expectancy of a Teacup dog is relatively long. These dogs can be expected to live anywhere between 12 to 14 years. Some of these problems are similar to the issues that may be carried by their standard sized ancestors due to their genetic similarities. These include: Progressive Retinal Atrophy PRA — this is an eye disorder that eventually causes blindness from the loss of photoreceptors at the back of the eye. Dysplasia — this is normally seen in large dogs but can affect different joints in the body. Also, because of their selective breeding and small size, they are also prone to some other health issues. You should always check with the breeder you are buying from to see whether the dogs show any signs of these problems. The three most common are hypoglycemia low blood sugar , heart defects and patella luxation. Patella luxation is a common condition in smaller dogs and is caused when the patella is not properly aligned. This can cause lameness in the leg or an abnormal gait, sort of like a skip or a hop. To ensure you identify the signs of any of these issues early, ensure you take your dog to the vet for regular checkups. Daily Life Fortunately, taking care of a Teacup Poodle in day-to-day life is not too challenging. They do not have as many needs as other sizes of the Poodle breed. Food And Diet Because they are small dogs , their food needs are not huge. Experts recommend that you feed your Teacup Poodle approximately calories per day, which is the equivalent to approximately 1 cup of high quality dry kibble per day. You should try them on a diet that is specially formulated for toy sized breeds, so you are ensuring that they get the right nutrients. You can also reward them with treats when they exhibit good behavior, as well as fruit snacks. Exercise The Teacup Poodle does not have great exercise needs, because of their size. Despite this, they still need to be walked every day. Exercising your dog can be a great way to bond with them and increase mental stimulation, as well as allowing them to experience new sights and sounds. Experts recommend you take your Teacup Poodle for no more than a 30 minute short walk a day. It is best that you split the walk into three so they do not over exert themselves. This way you could take them in the morning, in the middle of the day and in the evening and you could vary the locations to give your dog new experiences. Your dog will also benefit from toys at home that will increase bonding time with you. Keep in mind that a Teacup Poodle has trouble keeping warm because of their small size. If you live in a colder area, your Teacup will benefit from a sweater or jacket to keep warm! Family Compatibility Poodles love humans and make great companions for everyone, including families. Because of their size, Teacup Poodles can fit into any home, whether you live in an apartment in the city of whether you live in a large house in the countryside. They love to be around you, so they are not well suited to a family that is going to be out for most of the day. That being said, they are extremely loving and a great lapdog — and small enough so you might be able to take them with you! The Teacup may feel intimidated when being held by small children and therefore get a little cranky. Fortunately, with early socialization, this can be fixed. Training Teacup Poodles are easy to train, which is another reason many people love these dogs. They are naturally intelligent which makes your life a lot easier, especially if you have never trained a dog before. Teacups want to learn and want to please and they respond well to positive reinforcement. This includes verbal praise and treats. You will also need to socialize them, especially because they are small. They need to be introduced to other people and animals from a young age so they learn how to interact. You should aim to do this twice a week. You should also clip their nails and brush their teeth. To help prevent dental decay and disease, daily brushing is the normally recommended. Teacup Poodles certainly do well in a family environment and love to be around people. They can feel intimidated when they are around small children, so it is not usually advised to house them with young children. However, this can be fixed with socialization. They can live in both small apartments or in big houses, as long as you give them enough love. How much do Teacup Poodles cost? They are expensive because they can be difficult to breed and there is normally only one or two puppies in a litter. If this is too expensive for you, you may find a Teacup Poodle at your local shelter who needs a home. Summary Teacup Poodles are an adorable, friendly and loving dog. Ensure that you give them the right amount of food, exercise them every day and play games with them and they will love you forever! Teacup Poodles love to be around people and can make the perfect family dog. They are not difficult to train and walking is minimal, so they make a great pet to everyone! What do you think — is a Teacup Poodle the right dog for you? Search Dog Breeds. The teacup poodle is a newer type of poodle and has only recently found great popularity in the past twenty years. Originally, the poodle originated in Germany around the early 14th century and was used as a hunting dog that retrieved waterfowl. The poodle is also the national dog of France and is widely known for being intelligent, loyal, and loving. Over time, smaller sizes of this pup began being bred, and the poodle became more popular as a companion or lap dog. The miniature poodle originated in the early 20th century when American breeders started to create a more city-friendly poodle. The smallest puppies from toy poodle litters were used for breeding teacup poodles, achieving their small size. However, despite this small stature, the teacup poodle has a lot to offer owners. They lack none of the intelligence of the standard-sized poodle, and they are alert, friendly, and easy to train. Teacup poodles form strong bonds with their owners and are playful and affectionate, but they may be prone to nervousness if not properly cared for or left alone for too long. Teacup poodles stand no more than 9 inches tall and weigh up to 6 pounds. They have round heads with a slight stop, much like standard-sized poodles, floppy ears, and a longer muzzle. Their eyes are typically small and dark, but very alert, and they will have a longer neck, square body, and straight back with long legs. The coat of the teacup poodle is thicker, curly, and soft and will need to be brushed often to prevent tangles. What Size Is a Teacup Poodle? Teacup poodles are, as the name implies, pretty small dogs. This pup will stand no more than 9 inches tall and weigh less than 6 pounds. They can be quite fragile because of their small size, so you will need to pay extra attention to your dog while it is playing or moving around your home. The teacup poodle has a coat much like the standard-size poodles. Teacup poodles are considered to be hypoallergenic, so they may be a beneficial breed for those with allergies. The teacup poodle has a friendly disposition and is intelligent, alert, loyal, and loving. This pup tends to become very attached to their owners and will often be seen following them from room to room. Teacup poodles are also very smart and can pick up tricks easily. They are eager to please and will love the time spent with you learning new commands. Teacup poodles are not known to have a high prey drive or act very aggressively toward other animals, though they may be quite vocal if they notice something suspicious around their home. Are Teacup Poodles Affectionate? Teacup poodles are very affectionate and will enjoy spending as much time with their owner as possible. You can expect your teacup poodle to enjoy cuddling on the couch, sleeping in the same room as you at nighttime, and wanting to play frequently throughout the day. The small size of this breed makes them quite fragile, so rough play with children can lead to the dog becoming injured. Lots of yelling, excitement, and busy play from smaller children can also scare your teacup poodle, creating anxiety, nervousness, or barking issues. That being said, families with older, calmer children and children that know how to properly play with animals can easily get along with this pup. Teacup poodles are generally good with other animals as they are a friendly and social pup. Are Teacup Poodles Aggressive? Your teacup poodle is unlikely to attack, nip, or act aggressively toward strangers, but they can develop these behaviors if they are very anxious, fearful, or bored. Do Teacup Poodles Bark a Lot? Teacup poodles are, unfortunately, quite vocal, and you can expect this dog to bark at just about anything. Teacup poodles will bark when they are happy and playing, in addition to barking at things they find suspicious or untrustworthy around their home. They may also bark to draw your attention or to show their displeasure with something. You can train excessive barking habits down somewhat, but keep in mind that your teacup poodle is likely to be on the more vocal side, no matter what. Are Teacup Poodles Intelligent? This dog breed is fairly intelligent, and teacup poodles can easily learn new tricks. They can be house trained relatively quickly in addition to learning more complex commands and skills. Plus, teacup poodles are easy to please and love a mental challenge, something that adds to their learning abilities. Are Teacup Poodles Easy to Train? Due to their higher intelligence, teacup poodles can be quite easy to train. They are loyal, affectionate, and eager to please their owners, all factors which help them pick up new skills quickly and learn basic obedience tasks. Your teacup poodle may even be up to the challenge of learning more advanced tricks depending on their intelligence and how quickly they learn. Are Teacup Poodles Energetic? Teacup poodles have a moderate energy level and are a very playful breed. This pup will need two short walks per day that last around 15 minutes each and are likely to expend a lot of energy running around their home and playing with their toys and their families. As long as they have toys around their home and enough space to get their zoomies out from time to time, they will fit well into apartment living. However, you should keep in mind that this pup can be noisy from time to time, so training to curb needless barking is a must. Are Teacup Poodles Good Watchdogs? They are also fairly protective and loyal to their owners, which makes them easily fall into the watchdog role. While teacup poodles may be intelligent and quickly learn many tricks and commands, they are not the best size for acting as service dogs. This breed is too small to help with guiding and mobility support-related tasks, and they are not typically able to fetch heavy items for their owners. However, teacup poodles love being around their owners. So they are a good choice for a companion pup, making them eligible to act as a therapy dog or an emotional support animal. How to Care for a Teacup Poodle Teacup poodles are not the highest maintenance breed out there, but they do require a dedicated care routine to stay happy and healthy. You will need to spend lots of time with your teacup poodle, as this breed is prone to anxiety and loneliness without their owners, something that can easily translate into destructive behaviors. Make sure that you brush your teacup poodle a few times a week, as this helps to release any shed hair before it tangles and mats. You will likely need to take your teacup poodle to be groomed regularly to trim up their hair, give them a good bath, and ensure their coat is kept at a comfortable length. Supplement meals with nutritional treats to keep your pup happy. Your teacup poodle will need to be brushed a few times a week and regularly receive professional grooming. The groomer will help release shed hair, untangle mats safely, and trim up their coat, so your dog is more comfortable. Do Teacup Poodles Shed? Teacup poodles are low-shedding dogs and are often considered hypoallergenic. What Should a Teacup Poodle Eat? Your teacup poodle should be eating a diet of high-quality dry or wet food and, depending on their size, should be consuming between half a cup and one full cup of food per day approximately calories. Due to their small size, teacup poodles may be prone to certain health conditions that affect smaller dogs. These problems include hypoglycemia, heart defects, respiratory and digestive problems, seizures, collapsing trachea, and blindness. Genetically, your teacup poodle may be predisposed to dental disease and luxating patellas. To ensure your teacup poodle stays in the best health, you should be taking them to regular vet visits and checking their behavior for any concerning symptoms such as limping, lethargy, or sudden changes in behavior. Teacup poodles are known to live between 12 and 14 years, though your dog may live longer or shorter than this predicated lifespan, depending on any preexisting health issues and their overall daily care. Regular vet visits and proper care for your dog is the best way to ensure they live a long, healthy, happy life. Are Teacup Poodles Expensive? Due to their smaller size, teacup poodles can be difficult to breed, and there are typically only one or two puppies bred per litter. This creates a relatively higher demand for this dog due to a lower supply and makes teacup poodles fairly expensive. How to Find a Teacup Poodle Breeder If you want to purchase a teacup poodle, you will most likely need to find a breeder to buy from. The best way to do this is to perform internet searches of local and national breeders that are reputable, follow proper breeding practices, and care for both the breeding dogs and the puppies humanely. Make sure to avoid suspect breeding practices, very low-priced dogs if something is too good to be true, it usually is , and anything that looks like a puppy mill, as dogs and puppies that come from these spaces are likely to have been poorly treated and have increased health issues. Can You Adopt a Teacup Poodle? For the most part, teacup poodles are a variation of the standard-sized poodle and are in great demand. It is unlikely that one will turn up at a shelter for adoption, but it is possible. Keep an eye out on local and national poodle rescue organizations to see if a teacup poodle comes through that you can adopt. Are Teacup Poodles Purebred? That being said, its parents may be purebred toy poodles, and the teacup poodle may come from either a line of purebred poodles or mixed breed poodles. Can You Show Teacup Poodles? However, several other kennel clubs and organizations put on events and shows for teacup and toy dog breeds that your teacup poodle may be eligible to participate in. The teacup poodle may be good for new dog owners in certain circumstances. Owners should also be prepared to spend lots of quality time with their dog to prevent anxiousness and behavioral problems.
