Our breeding dogs are also our own pets, living with us in our home, receiving the training, attention, and socialization only possible from a small breeder like ourselves. Some of our pups have gone on to be service animals. All of our pups have been great additions to their adoptive families. The cameras provide transparency about our puppy care, along with continuous opportunities to bond and to see how your pup and littermates grow and interact. Another hallmark of our care is our consistent attention to the early nurture and conditioning of your puppy. We implement in positive behavioral conditioning in all of our interactions with each pup, familiarizing them with several commands by the time they are 8 weeks old. This experience prepares them to be responsive to directions, ready for learning well at their future homes. Coat colors that may affect the price include black, blue, silver, and white. Size is also a factor to consider when pricing Bernedoodles since smaller sizes like the Toy Bernedoodle or Mini Bernedoodle tend to cost more than Standard Bernedoodles. When looking for a Bernedoodle breeder in Vermont, be sure to ask about pricing and any additional costs that may be associated with the purchase of a puppy. Some breeders may also offer financing options to help make the purchase more affordable. Unfortunately, it is not possible to find a free Bernedoodle puppy in Vermont. However, there are many reputable Bernedoodle breeders in Vermont who charge very reasonable prices for their puppies. If you are intent on finding a free bernedoodle puppy, you could search online classifieds websites or contact your local animal shelter. It is also possible to find Bernedoodle puppies for sale through online directories such as the American Kennel Club. There are a few things you can do to help you find a reputable breeder. First, ask your friends and family if they know of any good breeders in your area. Once you have a list of potential breeders, visit their websites and read their policies carefully. Make sure they seem like they would be a good fit for you and your family. Next, contact the breeders on your list and ask them questions about their dogs. This will give you a chance to meet the puppies and see the parents firsthand. It will also allow you to ask the breeder any remaining questions you may have. By following these steps, you can find a responsible bernedoodle breeder in Vermont. Next, schedule a time to visit the Bernedoodle breeders in Vermont. This will give you an opportunity to see the facilities and meet the staff. Ask plenty of questions and get to know the breeder before making any decisions. Finally, be prepared to pay for your new Bernedoodle puppy. A good breeder will be happy to provide references from past customers who have had positive experiences with their dogs. This is a great way to get an idea of what kind of temperament and personality your Bernedoodle might have. References will be able to tell you if the Bernedoodle Breeder in Vermont was professional, reliable and if they would recommend them to others. If a breeder is reluctant to provide references, that could be a red flag that you should look elsewhere for your pup. This is a good way to get an idea of what it is like to work with the breeder. It also gives you a chance to ask any questions that you might have about the dog or the process of purchasing a Bernedoodle from them. Meeting past customers will allow you firsthand knowledge of what it is like to work with the specific Vermont Bernedoodle Breeder. You should also ask your breeder if they offer any guarantees. This will give you a sense of security in knowing that your money is going towards a dog that is healthy and will have a long and happy life. When looking for a Bernedoodle Breeder, be sure to do your research. There are many things to consider when choosing a breeder. Take your time, ask lots of questions, and most importantly, make sure you feel comfortable with the person you are working with. This includes being able to ask questions and receive answers in a timely manner. A good breeder will want to make sure that their dogs are healthy and will take them to the vet regularly. Ask your breeder if they have a good relationship with their veterinarian and if they would be comfortable giving you their contact information. Unfortunately, there are many unethical breeders out there who are not concerned with the health and welfare of their dogs. They may be more interested in making a quick buck than they are in providing a healthy, happy home for their dogs. The breeder has multiple litters of puppies available at one time. The breeder is not willing to answer your questions or seems evasive. The breeder does not allow you to visit their facility. The puppies are kept in poor conditions, such as in a cramped wire cage. The puppies seem fearful or aggressive. If you come across a breeder that displays any of these signs, it is best to avoid doing business with them. If they are not willing to do this, move on to the next breeder All breeds have the potential for health problems. You just want to know which diseases your bernedoodle puppy are susceptible to. Here are a few tips on how to puppy proof your home: Remove anything that might be tempting for your puppy to chew on, such as shoes, socks, clothing, rugs, curtains, etc. Put away any small objects that could be choking hazards. Make sure all cleaning products and other chemicals are out of reach. A crate is a good option, as it will give your puppy a secure place to stay and will help with potty training. If you decide not to use a crate, make sure your puppy has a designated spot in your home where he can sleep and feel safe. This spot should be away from high traffic areas and out of the way of any potential hazards. Potty Training Your New Bernedoodle Puppy When you first bring your new Bernedoodle puppy home, there will be a lot of changes for both you and your pup. Potty training can be a challenge, but with patience and consistency, it can be done. Here are some tips to help you get started: 1. Set up a designated potty area — Choose an area in your yard that you want your puppy to use as their potty spot. Reward good behavior — Whenever your puppy uses the designated potty area, be sure to praise them and give them a treat. This will help reinforce the good behavior. Be patient — Potty training takes time and patience. Just stay consistent and eventually, your puppy will get it. A trainer can give you additional tips and guidance to help you get on the right track. Steve is passionate about dogs and owns a french bulldog. View Our Available Bernedoodle Puppies! It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Not all training packages may be available at our Dog Training Elite Chattanooga location, please reference our pricing page for complete information on services offered. German Shepherd Puppies vs. Adults Dog Training Elite Chattanooga recommends starting dog training as early as possible, soon after a puppy is ready to leave its mother. Puppies are capable of learning basic commands, and smart German Shepherd puppies do great with early training. Dog Training Elite Chattanooga has adult dog training programs as well. A complete puppy training typically takes a few months. Adult dog training can take longer or shorter, depending on whether a dog needs to unlearn bad habits in addition to being trained. Working with a German Shepherd and the owner directly in the home allows dog trainers to create personalized training plans for individual dogs, as well as address any unique needs or issues. Once a dog has completed in-home training, they can take group classes for more in-depth training - Dog Training Elite Chattanooga offers both puppy and adult dog group classes. Beginning training in the home also helps owners bond with their dogs so when the dog trainer leaves, no progress is lost. This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form after proper conditioning , when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter. Empowering Owners We empower owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times. Personalized We deal with problem behaviors on a personal basis. Environment Specific We train wherever issues tend to arise i. Supportive We support owners in the off-hours when training is "not in session". Involved We work with all members of the household. Satisfaction Ratings Our high client satisfaction rating sets us apart from competitors. Also, be consistent about rules - establish at the beginning, for example, whether or not your dog is allowed on the couch. An energetic dog with little to no exercise can become a destructive, disobedient dog. Training is a great way to give German Shepherds the mental and physical stimulation they need. Dog Training Elite Chattanooga has developed training programs for puppies and adult dogs alike based on positive reinforcement. German Shepherd training with our in-home option is entirely possible. Read on to learn more about the Dog Training Elite Chattanooga training method. All Sizes. All Ages. The Dog Training Elite Difference Dog Training Elite Chattanooga uses modern training methods focused on positive reinforcement and bonding between dog and dog owner. Dog Training Elite Chattanooga never resorts to the use of punishment to help dogs unlearn bad behavior. The difference becomes clear when comparing a dog that is trained out of anxiety and intimidation vs a dog who truly desires to please from the inside out. The Dog Training Elite Chattanooga training theory is mostly based around classical conditioning, also known as the Pavlovian method or respondent conditioning. In its simplest form after proper conditioning , when an owner says "sit," their dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Through a combination of commands and an electronic collar, dogs learn to follow commands at once. Other dog trainers use harsh static collars or spray collars which have been shown to be less effective. Ready to turn your dog into a loyal and loving companion? Find a German Shepherd trainer near you today! We help your dog become a valued companion and beloved member of the family. Read what our customers have to say and then give us a call! Very responsible breeder, I came from Arizona and couldn't be happier. Very helpful before and after receiving my puppy. I highly recommended. Jimmy M. I call Arsalaan whenever I have questions and he is always very helpful with training tips and advice. I get a lot compliments on her looks. Elvia B. I am so grateful for all of the help I got from Arsalaan, and we also appreciate him following up on our puppy "Rexie". He's given us great advice even before we decided to get Rexie. Although he's up north about a 90 minute drive from us, it was definitely worth it. He kept our puppy even after her 8 weeks we couldn't bring her home because it was a Christmas gift. When I took Rexie to her first vet visit the vet said " this breeder definitely knows what he's doing ". Rexie came with up to date vaccinations and AKC forms paid for just have to finish writing them up. Our new family member is a happy and healthy puppy! Plus she sleeps through the night quietly from day one. Amazing Thank you Arsalaan. Their personalities are easy to love; they have a confident demeanor and are known for their almost clown-like antics when excited, making them an excellent family companion. This breed is quite family-oriented but may be distant with strangers at first. Their characteristic aloofness to outsiders helps make them great guard dogs. With consistent training and established rules and boundaries, this powerful pup can learn with the best of them. As a working breed, they were known for their wild pig and cattle catching abilities, making them indispensable on southern ranches in the US. Grooming Hurray for easy care! Make sure your vet gives your pup a professional cleaning every year, too. Be sure to put nail trimming every couple of weeks and ear cleaning monthly is usually enough on the grooming menu, too. And as for baths, plan on a bath about once a month or so. You may be able to just use your nose. If you detect an unpleasant odor eww! Training When it comes to training, an American Bulldog puppy needs a confident pup parent who uses positive reinforcement to teach various skills, such as how to walk nicely on a leash and come when called. Start training your American Bulldog puppy early to get them used to the ropes. Once you understand what works for them, training becomes easy. Remember: American Bulldogs are smart. These social interactions give your dog a chance to explore a variety of environments and social situations. Feed your puppy large-breed puppy kibble for their first 14 months to support slow but consistent growth. Skip food or supplements with calcium until your pooch is fully grown and eating an adult diet. The added calcium could disrupt healthy bone development. Treats are an essential part of training and a great way to show your pup you love them. However, too many treats can lead to a tubby pup, so check with your vet if you need help figuring out a proper treat-to-mealtime ratio. Exercise Even though they have a moderate energy level, an American Bulldog needs a lot of exercise. And exercise is important to keep your dog out of trouble. If they have unused energy, an American Bulldog will resort to destructive behaviors to release that energy, like chewing on your favorite pair of shoes. This athletic dog benefits greatly from structured walks and play to work the mind and their muscular build. As a puppy parent, strive to offer non-impact movement such as hiding balls in the yard or offering a puzzle toy, as these games lower the risk of joint and bone damage early on. Get out of the house twice a day or more if your young dog is up for it for playtime and walks that last between 20 and 30 minutes. Trainers often suggest skipping the dog park because structured play is more difficult in this setting. Instead, get creative with activities. Think: fetch, tug-of-war with a rope toy or a chewy option filled with something delicious. You may even try lower-impact dog sports like agility or nose work. Both are an excellent way to keep your pup mentally and physically engaged. Remember, a happy dog is a tired dog! Ideal Environment Both city and country homes will suit the American Bulldog as long as you can offer lots of exercise and playtime. Still, families with kids are a good match for this protective and intelligent breed. A structured day with regular walks and chances to play with a variety of toys is the best environment for the American Bulldog. Staving off boredom is paramount, and, of course, no animal likes to be home alone for a long time. When considering the American Bulldog as a pet, bear in mind that training is the key to their success, especially when adding this breed to a home with kids or other dogs. Pup parents need to be aware of some of these issues so they can help their dog live the healthiest life possible. Joint Dysplasia: This joint abnormality is seen in the hips and elbows, and a dog with dysplasia may run, jump and climb less than usual. Most often, the issue is a rupture or partial tear. Cherry Eye: Did you know dogs have a third eyelid? Bone Cancer: Often found in the long bones arms, legs , the cause for this condition is unknown, though vets feel it may have a genetic or environmental component. Deafness: Deafness, which can occur in one or both ears, may be acquired via drug exposure or infection. But deafness could also be hereditary and is linked to dogs with light coats and eyes. Acquired deafness is usually permanent but may improve over time without intervention. A special diet may be the treatment or medications, depending on the cause. Spinal Issues: Degenerative myelopathy DM is often genetic in nature and affects the spinal cord, leading to weakness and hind limb paralysis. Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis: NCL is an inherited, progressive and rare neurological disorder that starts showing up between 1 and 2 years of age. The most obvious symptom is behavioral changes in the dog, and the pup will usually lose coordination and eyesight. It can be discovered through a DNA test, and at this time, there are no treatments. This proud pup carries an imported pedigree, having been brought over from across the pond as a descendant of the English Bulldog, which was originally bred for bull baiting. Thankfully, this horrific sport was outlawed in England in .Back in the 17th century, early settlers packed these working dogs with them for service on farms and ranches. The American Bulldog became a utility player, stepping in to accomplish many tasks, such as guarding livestock and catching cattle and feral pigs. In fact, were it not for their success as an excellent catch dog in the southern states, we might not know the breed today. John D. Johnson and Alan Scott were able to breed the last few native American Bulldogs in the southern US, resulting in two types the Scott type and the Johnson type that thrive today. These breeds differ in appearance; the Johnson American Bulldog sports a bigger, stronger build, a larger head and short muzzle, and the Scott American Bulldog has more lithe features, such as an athletic, small-boned frame and a longer muzzle. Gender differences are well expressed in this breed, with males typically larger and more muscular than females. Honorable scars resulting from field work are not to be penalized. The essential characteristics of the American Bulldog are those which enable it to work as a hog and cattle catching dog, and a protector of personal property. These tasks require a powerful, agile, confident dog with a large head and powerful jaws. The American Bulldog is a gentle, loving family companion who is fearless enough to face an angry bull or a human intruder. Note: It is common for young American Bulldogs to be somewhat standoffish with strangers, and judges should not penalize this. All over the world, they are used variously as "hog dogs" catching escaped pigs or hunting razorbacks , as cattle drovers and as working or sport K-9s. American Bulldogs also successfully compete in several dog sports such as dog obedience, Schutzhund, French Ring, Mondio Ring, Iron Dog competition and weight pulling. American Bulldogs are widely considered to be the closest living relative to the Old English Bulldog brought to the United States in the s. They were originally used in England for bull-baiting but took on new opponents such as bears and buffaloes when introduced to the American frontier. While the original Old English Bulldog bloodline was being heavily mixed with other breeds back in England during this time, the breed that was imported to the New World was mostly kept preserved in the deep South. Bulldogs were trained to catch wild boar and cattle and were excellent hunters of vermin that destroyed farms and crops. They do well as loyal and confident guard dogs. If you have a soft spot in your heart for these wonderful dogs and would like to rescue one, the American Bulldog Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for lost Bulldogs. American Bulldogs are top picks for several dog sports such as weight pulling, obedience, and the Iron Dog competition. In order to participate in these competitions, your Bulldog needs to be registered with a kennel club. A proper crate is also a necessity. Vaccines are necessary to counter the many strains of viruses that plague domesticated dogs such as Rabies, Canine Distemper, and Bordetella. Bulldogs love to explore, so make sure your yard has a fence high enough feet to prevent them from going on adventures outside. This breed is also prone to a variety of health issues such as hip and elbow dysplasia, skin and allergy problems, and inherited deafness. You must be financially secure if you expect to properly raise a Bulldog. It also tends to have a protein-heavy diet — so be prepared to stock up on kibble, canned food, and treats. Physical activities should be restricted to short walks, games, and playing. This is primarily because of their large size. They are simply more expensive to breed because they require more room and eat quite a bit. The purpose of an American Bulldog will determine its pricing. Table of Contents How much is an American Bulldog? These dogs range widely in price. Where you decide to adopt your dog makes a significant difference in the price. However, these dogs are rarely health tested and are more prone to health problems. On the other hand, purchasing from an AKC-registered breeder helps ensure that the proper health tests were run. However, they are also the most expensive option. In the end, it is typically better to purchase from a professional breeder. Both of these factors help ensure that the puppy is healthy. Getting a puppy from Craigslist Purchasing a puppy from craigslist is often cheap. However, there is no way to ensure the health of puppies sold solely through this medium. Often, these puppies are from unprofessional breeders who breed their pet dogs in their backyard. Some puppies may have underlying health problems that have not yet been diagnosed due to the lack of vet care. Backyard breeders often do not produce purebred dogs, but cross their American Bulldogs with e. Dogo Argentinos. Some backyard breeders have done their proper research and take good care of their puppies. Others end up with accidental litters and have no idea how to take care of puppies. It is impossible to tell if the puppy has health problems since many are not seen by a vet. You may end up with a puppy with genetic problems since health testing was likely not performed on the parents. Getting a puppy from a rescue Most puppies in rescues were accidents. A professional breeder would never send their puppy to a rescue. After all, they breed their dogs partially for profit. Furthermore, professional breeders often have an adoption contract that states unwanted puppies should be returned to them — not taken to a shelter. Therefore, most puppies in rescues are not bred by professional breeders. For this reason, the parents do not undergo health testing before breeding. The puppies are already born when the rescue has them or the mother is already pregnant, at least. However, rescues do get their puppies properly health tested and vaccinated. This helps ensure that the puppy is healthy once you adopt it. Plus, adopting from a rescue is relatively cheap. These prices usually cover the veterinary care that your dog needs and any other care the puppy needs. Getting a puppy from a breeder This is the most expensive option. However, professional breeders know how to breed and care for puppies properly. They usually get the parents health-tested, take the puppies to multiple vet visits, and adequately socialize the puppies to be ready for their new home. Of course, not all breeders are made equal. Those registered with national breed organizations or the AKC usually have to follow strict guidelines for breeding, which means that no corners are cut when it comes to your new puppy. Cost of health tests The Bulldog Club of America recommends several health tests for dogs before they are bred. At the bare minimum, they require a genetic cardiac test, patellar luxation test, and tracheal hypoplasia test. This covers common genetic diseases in the breed and will help ensure that the resulting puppies are healthy. These dogs are prone to various hip and elbow problems, which do have a genetic component. By checking parents for these problems, you can prevent passing on problematic genes to the future population. Vet Expenses Most puppies will need significant care in their first year. They need more vaccinations and checkups because they are growing. After the first year, you will likely pay less unless your dog develops a serious health condition. Some health problems like hip dysplasia will require ongoing and considerable treatment. Food and Toy Costs The cost of the food depends mainly on what food you choose. We recommend high-quality food for your pup, as these can help prevent health problems. A varied diet is often best for your puppy, so you should switch between a few different foods. American Bulldogs grow rapidly in their first year of life and need a nutritious diet to support their growth! Puppies will usually eat less since they are smaller. You may spend less on their food. These dogs will need quite a few toys. Training Costs Training is essential for all dogs. Having professional work with your dog is likely less expensive than you would consider. Puppy classes are highly recommended. Factors influencing the price The most significant factor influencing the price of this breed is their bloodline. Show dogs are costly, but those that are pet-quality typically are not. Price considerations You should be very careful to budget for a dog before adopting them. Plan on having an emergency fund for the vet, just in case something serious happens. Often, affording the dog itself is the least of your worries. The best option is to adopt a puppy from a breeder after ensuring that it has undergone proper health testing. We recommend you avoid choosing the cheapest breeder out there, mainly if they do not perform the proper health testing on their breeding dogs and puppies. Our puppies are sold on a limited-registration basis to pet homes only, and we take pride in the fastidious, loving, and stimulating environment in which they are raised. Because we want every Tru-Heart puppy to find the best possible forever home, we ask that you submit an application before we discuss pricing or accept a deposit from you for one of our outstanding puppies. We do not inbreed. How do wild animal populations manage to remain healthy for thousands of generations without DNA testing? They don't lose important genes from the gene pool. In the wild, animals occasionally move from herd to herd, or flock to flock, which helps to restore genetic diversity to the population. If a particular group becomes isolated, and new individuals are prevented from entering the population, the gene pool is effectively closed. Breeders of other domestic animals understand this. Dogs are no different, and we put this truth into practice. By adhering to our scientifically-proven breeding philosophy, we ensure Tru-Heart puppies are born with sound temperaments, aesthetically-pleasing conformation, good bone, and genetic health and vigor. Please watch the following video on this subject from the Embark Canine Health Summit:. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Our family has owned labradors since and after much research, began our breeding program, in .We breed a limited number of litters of AKC registered and genetic tested labrador puppies each year. All of our dogs are family pets that live in our homes. Our puppies are also raised in our homes, where we provide a nurturing environment with socialization and basic training from birth. Our love for our dogs and the breed guides us in providing others with an opportunity to add the joy of owning a healthy and loving pet to their family. This is the reason we are dedicated to being responsible breeders. Matching families to a puppy is one aspect of that responsibility. We take pride in assisting potential families in choosing the puppy that will grow into "the best dog in the world", for its family. As responsible breeders, we know the goal of breeding is to produce a better quality Labrador Retriever and family pet. Whether you are seeking an athletic field dog, quality show dog, therapy dog or loving family pet, Longleaf Labradors knows the significance temperament and heredity play in development of your needs and the longevity of a dog's life. Therefore, when our dogs are considered for breeding we wait until after they and their mates have reached a minimum 2yrs of age to ensure successful completion of genetic testing, OFA certifications and specific health criteria. This is our commitment to minimizing matings of individuals producing puppies prone to genetic or health issues later in life, thus maintaining a healthy breed standard. Our puppies are born and raised in our home as part of our family. Socialization plays an important role in raising puppies because a well-socialized puppy creates a well-behaved, relaxed dog that's more comfortable in a variety of situations. Additional boarding or training before heading to fur-ever homes is available to those families requiring consistency for the puppy at an early age. Most importantly our puppies are loved because they will soon be your puppy and an extension of the Longleaf Labrador Family. Our Philosophy. We have answers. To avoid being scammed, we recommend only dealing with businesses that have been independently reviewed and meet our ethical standards. What is a puppy mill? Puppy mills are commercial dog breeding businesses. They breed dogs for profit, often with little regard for animal safety, wellbeing or ethical breeding practices. What other dogs are similar to Labrador Retrievers? Labs are wonderful, friendly dogs that are great for families. They are highly intelligent and very trainable. Some people even cross Labrador Retrievers with Poodles to create Labradoodles. These special dogs inherit the best traits of both breeds - the intelligence and trainability of a Lab, combined with the non-shedding coat of a Poodle.

They are also popular choices for families with allergies, as they do not shed as much as other breeds. Poodle Mixes come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and colors, making them one of the most popular hybrid dog breeds. While all Poodle Mixes share some common features, their individual personalities can vary widely. Some Poodle Mixes are confident and outgoing, while others are more reserved and shy. Some breeds tend to be independent thinkers, while others are more eager to please. The best way to determine what personality type is right for you is to meet with a local breeder or rescue organization that specializes in Poodle Mixes. If a Mini Poodle Mix takes after their Mini Poodle parent, they will be a small dog that is affectionate, loving, and playful. Miniature Poodles are intelligent, sensitive dogs with cheerful dispositions. They tend to get along well with children, other pets, and other dogs. They even tend to be good with strangers as long as they have been properly socialized. They do tend to alert you of things, which can make them prone to barking. Working to train your dog to stop barking early on can keep this from becoming a nuisance behavior. If the other parent breed has similar traits, then you can expect a similar temperament from a Miniature Poodle Mix. You can also meet the mother in person to see what temperament she has and the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. The breeder should have started socialization and training. However, it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home to ensure they grow into a well-rounded dog. A Miniature Poodle is a highly adaptable dog that does well in apartments as well as larger homes and in most climates. Because they are so people-oriented, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. If the other parent breed is similar, then you can also expect a high adaptable Miniature Poodle Mix. The other breed in the mix is likely to have their own quirks, so you do still want to ask the breeder about them. Are mixed-breed dogs healthier than purebred dogs? Just as a mix can inherit none of the conditions common to their parent breeds, they could also inherit some combination of them or all of them. Make sure you ask about the health history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Miniature Poodles tend to be intelligent dogs that are eager to please and easy to train. They tend to be a good fit for owners of all experience levels. As long as the other parent breed is also a good fit for all experience levels, then you can expect a Mini Poodle Mix to be highly trainable as well. If the other parent breed is more difficult to train, then you will want to prepare for that possibility in a Miniature Poodle Mix. A mixed-breed can inherit a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is some combination of them both. If a Miniature Poodle Mix inherits the Poodle coat, it will be low-shedding, require daily brushing, and require professional grooming every weeks. Once or twice monthly nail trims keeps them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Brushing teeth daily or using an enzyme toothpaste every day in addition to cleanings at the vet as needed are ideal dental care for dogs. Although they are small, Miniature Poodles are high-energy dogs that require daily walks plus playtime and extra activity to be happy and healthy. If the other parent breed is also a high-energy breed, then you can expect a Mini Poodle Mix to also be a high-energy dog. If the other parent breed has a lower energy level, a Mini Poodle Mix could take after them, but you still want to be prepared for the potential of a high-energy dog. A Miniature Poodle is usually inches tall and weighs pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother, so you want to ask the breeder about them. Miniature Poodles generally live for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, you should be able to expect a similar life span in a Mini Poodle Mix. german shepherd puppies needing homes - Best calming aid for German Shepherds Supplements can help stressed, anxious German Shepherds by providing calming support in challenging situations. The idea is to help your dog feel calmer so they become more receptive to behavioral therapy techniques. In time, this will lead to a happier, more playful, and more confident dog and an improved quality of life for you both. Many calming aids use hemp extracts, CDB, or even valerian root to produce a relaxing effect on dogs. These additives help regulate various bodily functions such as sleep, appetite, and pain sensation. Some of them can also reduce inflammation, anxiety, and seizures in dogs. Start with a low dose to avoid any adverse effects such as nausea, lethargy, or diarrhea. Their use is part of a complete program that helps them adjust their reactions while going through a behavior modification program. More professional GSD breeders today, however, are committed to the health of their canines and actively support scientific research that aims to eradicate genetic diseases in GSDs. Supplements are no longer an afterthought. May guard against some allergies. Can provide pain relief for back, muscle, and joint pain that is chronic. Boost energy levels to support a healthy, active lifestyle. Caring for your German Shepherd is more than just a routine. Given the multitude of health problems in the breed, stay watchful and monitor for any abnormal behavior or health concerns. A supplement could help provide your GSD relief in some cases. See your veterinarian sooner rather than later. Supplement Safety Your top priority is safety when selecting supplements. Unfortunately, with little regulatory enforcement, there is a high potential for ineffective, or even unsafe, supplements that make fraudulent claims. So, how do you choose supplements for your German Shepherd that are safe and effective? First, you need to ask questions, such as: 1. How long have they been in business? Generally, the longer, the better. Contact the company with questions. How responsive are they? Who is involved with formulating the products? Nutritional experts and veterinarians are best. What kinds of claims are being made? Is there specific safety or efficacy research on this product? Is there a guaranteed analysis? Is there a lot number and expiration date? Have you consulted with your vet regarding giving them to your pet and what condition you hope to address? Typically, reputable supplement manufacturers have their products tested and approved by third-party organizations, such as the National Animal Supplement Council. Additionally, labels must indicate the contents accurately, and the products should be free from contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, and harmful bacteria. Performing these quality checks beforehand could help minimize the risk of adverse side effects and ensure that your German Shepherd benefits from the supplement. Some common side effects to watch out for include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and allergic reactions. Consult your veterinarian if you have any concerns or notice any unusual reactions. Allergic reactions Allergic reactions to supplements can be serious, particularly in dogs with known food allergies. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, swelling, hives, and vomiting. In severe cases, anaphylaxis can occur, which is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate veterinary attention. Seek veterinary advice if any adverse side effects occur. Upset stomach An upset stomach is a common issue that German Shepherds face. Certain supplements can help alleviate this discomfort. Probiotics are one such supplement known to promote healthy gut bacteria and improve digestive function. Other options include digestive enzymes, which can calm stomach inflammation and reduce nausea. Some side effects lessen with consistent use, while others may continue and require you to readjust the amount or type of supplement for your German Shepherd. Digestive problems Digestive problems in German Shepherds can range from mild discomfort to serious health issues. Supplements such as probiotics, digestive enzymes, and fiber can improve gut health and alleviate symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Unfortunately, side effects such as bloating or increased bowel movements could still occur even with supplements meant to quell those exact issues. Some supplements, like omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, and calming treats, have been shown to improve mood and reduce anxiety in German Shepherds. These mood-boosting supplements can still cause side effects, such as vomiting or diarrhea, or not work as you anticipated. Discontinue use if necessary, and contact your vet for further treatment in this case. Consulting a Veterinarian Before Giving a Supplement to a German Shepherd It cannot be overstated how crucial it is to consult with a veterinarian before giving any supplements to your German Shepherd. They can also identify any pre-existing health conditions, as certain supplements can interact negatively with other medications or might not be suitable for treating with supplements. Ultimately, seeking the guidance of a veterinarian can prevent adverse reactions and ensure your dog receives the best possible care. The fact that supplementation with these nutrients can help with so many problems shows that some supplements are a good choice for treating certain diseases. The best supplements for German Shepherds are:. Unfortunately, some breeds are often affected by joint problems and hip or elbow dysplasia, where the bones do not fit properly in the socket and allow a much greater range of movement than is appropriate. However, there are a number of joint supplements for German Shepherds that can help limit and slow the pain or problems they face as a result. Along with good vet advice and treatments such as medication, supplements can also help to build up supporting muscles, improve cell growth, and reduce inflammation that can often cause pain, allowing sore dogs to move more, building up the muscles around their joints. Supplements can also slow the degeneration of joints. With a little understanding of what supplements are available, you can help your German Shepherd enjoy their exercise long into their senior years! Glucosamine When it comes to joint health, every smart owner of German Shepherds will have Glucosamine at the top of their list. Glucosamine contributes to the synovial fluid in joints, which helps to keep them lubricated and running smoothly. Glucosamine supplements for dogs are also used to build and repair cartilage. The cartilage found at the end of bones and within joints — articular cartilage — allows the joint to move smoothly and effectively. The power of Glucosamine together with Chondroitin For the best possible dog joint health support , Glucosamine works best in conjunction with Chondroitin Sulphate, with both supplements having greater effect on joint health when used together. Hyaluronic Acid Not only does Hyaluronic Acid help ease inflammation and pain caused by joint issues in dogs, but it is well known to aid the growth and development of cartilage between joints. It can grow new cells and tissues, so whilst even degenerative, hereditary forms of joint problems can continue to develop, a supplement containing Hyaluronic Acid is working all the time to help replace what has been lost. Also, there are supplements that combine Hyaluronic Acid with other important ingredients like Chondroitin Sulphate and Glucosamine, which offers your German Shepherd the best possible support against joint problems. In fact, this combination is one of the best joint supplements for German Shepherds available. MSM Methylsulfonylmethane MSM is an antioxidant and cell rejuvenator which can help build and preserve cartilage, reduce inflammation and support joint function. This is especially important for any good hip and joint supplements for German Shepherds. Vitamin C You will hopefully be giving your dog a diet that has plenty of Vitamin C already. Found in plenty of vegetables, this vitamin is an important antioxidant and can help reduce joint inflammation. This vitamin plays an important role in the limitation of cellular injury, which is a key feature of hereditary joint conditions. Found in fish oil, leafy greens and vegetables, Vitamin E can slow the progress of joint issues, provided it is taken in the right quantities. Omega-3 There have been plenty of studies that demonstrate how Omega-3 fatty acids can benefit brain function and skin health, as well as limit the symptoms of many diseases and conditions, such as joint stiffness and discomfort. These fatty acids increase blood flow and are very important anti-inflammatories, crucial to controlling joint pain in German Shepherds. Unlike Vitamin C, it is not a naturally occurring acid in mammals and is often derived from fish oils. Hopefully, your dog's diet will already contain either artificially added or naturally occurring Omega-3, but there are plenty of dog supplements available which contain them, as well. Known for their loyalty, intelligence, and courage, they are a favorite of law enforcement and families alike. However, these large, active dogs are also prone to joint problems as they age, which can greatly impact their quality of life. That's why many veterinarians recommend adding glucosamine to their diet. Glucosamine is a natural supplement that can help protect and repair joint cartilage, reducing the risk of arthritis and other joint-related issues. In this blog, we'll explore the best glucosamine for German Shepherds and how it can help keep them healthy and active for years to come. They were developed for herding sheep and protecting flocks from predators. The breed's founder, Captain Max von Stephanitz, aimed to create the ideal working dog that combined beauty and intelligence with a strong work ethic. Today, German Shepherds are used for various purposes, including police work, search and rescue, military service, and as loyal companions for families. They excel in performance sports such as agility, obedience, and tracking due to their eagerness to learn and please their handlers. German Shepherds have a distinct appearance, with a strong, muscular build, a straight back, and a thick double coat that can range in color from black and tan to sable or all black. They have a noble head with a long muzzle, erect ears, and dark, intelligent eyes. Socialization and proper training are essential for German Shepherds from a young age, as they can develop behavioral issues if not given adequate mental and physical stimulation. They are protective of their families and may be wary of strangers, making them excellent guard dogs. Despite their many positive qualities, German Shepherds are susceptible to certain health issues, such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, arthritis in dogs and degenerative myelopathy. Regular veterinary check-ups and preventative care, such as joint supplements, can help ensure a long, healthy, mobile life for this breed. Glucosamine for German Shepherds Glucosamine is a naturally occurring compound that plays a vital role in the health and maintenance of joints, cartilage, and connective tissues. It is an amino sugar derived from glucose and the amino acid glutamine. Glucosamine is one of the major building block of cartilage, which helps provide cushioning and support for our dog's joints. Just as in humans, as our dogs age or undergo physical stress, the production of glucosamine tends to decrease, leading to the degeneration of cartilage and increased joint pain. This is where the best glucosamine joint supplements for German Shepherds come into play, as they can help compensate for this decline in natural glucosamine production. These supplements are often sourced from shellfish exoskeletons or produced synthetically. Glucosamine supplements are commonly used to alleviate symptoms of osteoarthritis in dogs. It can reduce inflammation, improve joint mobility, and slow the progression of the disease. It is often combined with other natural substances, such as chondroitin and green-lipped mussel , to enhance its effects. To find the best glucosamine supplement for your German Shepherd, follow these steps: Consult your veterinarian: Before starting any supplement regimen for your pet, consult with your veterinarian. They can provide guidance on appropriate dosages and recommend brands or products with the best track record for safety and efficacy.
