german shepherd puppy first night home
This is a common question that French bulldog owners ask. This is because at some point during your canine journey, you just get the urge to double the cuteness. French bulldogs are social animals and they will instinctively love being in a pack. Generally, French bulldogs will be happier when they have another Frenchie for a companion. They will keep each other company, exercise each other and a bonus is that they can be left alone together for longer periods of time. Frenchies are prone to separation anxiety and this can be a real issue if you have to constantly be away from home. This development may be recently new and hence your reason for wanting to get another Frenchie. There is no problem at all as Frenchies do exceptionally well with other Frenchies. A Frenchie who is already suffering from symptoms of separation anxiety can be cajoled out of it by another Frenchie. However, in choosing to get another Frenchie dog breed, there are several things to consider. As well as doubling the cuteness, you would be doubling the costs of owning a Frenchie. You may also have to deal with jealousy or destructive behavior. Do you think this is something you can handle? Let us help you find out if two French Bulldogs are the right choice for you. This is a resounding yes. Frenchies are companion dogs, and having another Frenchie to play and run around makes them happy. If you are contemplating having a Frenchie for your first pet, you should consider getting two Frenchies from the same litter rather than one. It may seem like a handful at first but if you can handle it, it is better to have two French bulldogs rather than one. Here are some reasons why French Bulldogs do better in pairs. Frenchies are social animals: As previously mentioned, French bulldogs are very social and outgoing. They appreciate the security and comfort that being part of a pair brings them. This may be attributed to the fact that they have the company and mental stimulation they crave. Frenchies can act as role models: Having two Frenchies means that they can serve as role models to each other. French bulldogs like to copy each other. This could help reduce the stress of training and housebreaking a new puppy because they will most likely copy the obedient behavior of the existing Frenchie. Issues could range from joint digging up of your garden to other severe destructive behaviors. Frenchies love to cuddle: Deciding to get a second Frenchie would mean getting a cuddle buddy for your Frenchie. All they need is a soft, warm dog bed; watch them melt your heart with cuteness as they snuggle into each other. This would help to keep both Frenchies warm and cozy. Health Benefits: There are many health benefits to getting another French Bulldog. It is commonly said that when in pairs, French bulldogs live longer. It is difficult to argue with this statement. This exercise routine would help to keep your Frenchies in shape and at an ideal body weight , rather than being obese, and healthy. Obesity is a trigger to many of the diseases Frenchies are prone to. Benefits to their owners: Owning a French bulldog can be beneficial to your health and your general well-being. French bulldogs help fill your day with laughter through their numerous antics. They help with emotional support and can help reduce stress levels. Owning two French bulldogs will double the benefits. When you already have a male French bulldog, you may wonder if getting another male is a great idea. Your worries are not unfounded as most of the time males may exhibit dominance issues. However, not all male French bulldogs act this way. Two male French bulldogs can live together if you establish early on and continuously that you are the boss. Whether you have an existing male Frenchie and you get another male or if you get the two males at the same time, the rules remain the same. It is important to note that some females could also be this way. It is not common but it is not rare. Whichever your unique case may be, please ensure that you speak to your vet about your decision to get another Frenchie. This is so that any harmful behavioral tendencies may be corrected. A properly trained and well socialized dog should have no problem with either gender. It is always better to introduce a new French bulldog puppy rather than a grown one. And this introduction should be done when your existing puppy is 2 — 3 years old. At this point, they should be old enough to recognize change and young enough to embrace it. When introducing this new pup, there are some key things to note. If things are going great unleash your Frenchie and let the two familiarize with each other. Give them love equally. Over time, your trainings will help them form an unbreakable sibling bond. Monitor them: In the early stages, both Frenchies will need some measure of supervision. Monitor them and take note of how they progress together. Most of the time, older French bulldogs have no problem with young puppies but sometimes, the young Frenchie might be annoying to the older one. Watch how they interact and discourage any form of aggression or unwanted behaviors. Other Things to Consider You should be aware that getting a new French bulldog has its own potential snags. French bulldogs are prone to some health issues that you should be intimately aware of. There are also the costs like getting another harness, vet fees, medical bills, food bills, toys vaccines and additional responsibilities. Like picking up poop, cleaning up after them, grooming. It can be a lot at once, take time to create a list. Everybody in the family should be on board with the idea, this would help in the division of responsibilities. We are excited about the new addition to your family, there are many ways we can help you. Seeing how happy Claude was has really opened our eyes up to how French Bulldogs are better in pairs. Are 2 French Bulldogs better than one and in pairs? French Bulldogs are instinctively social animals and love being in a pack. Frenchies will be happier when they have a companion dog; they keep each other company, exercise each other, and can be left alone for longer periods when in pairs. Having now seen how much happier he is with a companion; we are seriously considering getting a second French Bulldog. Why are two French Bulldogs better than one? Frenchies are social pack animals Dogs are descendants of wolves, an animal known for their pack mentality. This ancestral trait still exists in dogs today, and they prefer the security and comfort of being in a group. Dogs are social animals, and Frenchies especially so. French Bulldogs do get lonely and prefer to have a companion to spend time with. Pairs offer companionship, socialisation, and health I have heard some people say that dogs tend to live longer and are happier when they have a companion. I can see why this would be the case. By being in a pair, French Bulldogs will always have company, stimulation, and will grow to be social dogs that will be well adjusted in most cases. A pair of Frenchies will stimulate each other and hopefully grow into healthy and well-adjusted sociable pets. Pairs can act as role models There are some negative aspects to mimicked behaviour, and I will explain those later down the page, but having two Frenchies can mean they act as role models to each other. This is particularly true when you bring a puppy into your home with an older dog. For example, the younger puppy will copy the older dog. If your older Frenchie has been well-trained, you might find it a lot easier to train the second younger pup. This can also work well if you have one French Bulldog who is shy and afraid. The addition of a second playmate could start to bring the other dog out of his or her shell. Pairs can exercise each other Seeing how Claude and the puppy play together during her stay showed me just how happier Frenchies are in pairs. During the 10 days that the puppy stayed with us, I actually reduced the number of walks that I took Claude on. From the moment they woke up in the morning they would start to be active. They would play fight, chew at each other, chase, and run. French Bulldogs are good in pairs as they will play and exercise each other far more than you could ever do. They will keep each other occupied and active, meaning you might not have to spend as much time making sure your one dog gets the exercise he or she needs. Pairs can help reduce separation anxiety Some Frenchies can be prone to separation anxiety. I wrote a long guide which helps you understand if you have a depressed Frenchie. Handy Hint: If you are unable to get a pair of Frenchies then there are some other things you can do to help reduce the problems of separation anxiety. Pairs can be left alone longer When the puppy stayed with us, we felt a lot better knowing that we could leave them both together for periods of time when we had to leave the house. For people with commitments, it can be a real wrench having to leave your Frenchie alone. With two dogs, this is not as big an issue. Pairs can keep each other warm It was so cute seeing Claude and the puppy cuddled up and asleep together. As pack animals, dogs love to cuddle into each other and sleep. Frenchie companions will sleep together and keep themselves warm. Handy Hint: Frenchies snore a lot, but you can help them with it. Read this guide to stopping French Bulldog snoring. Reduce blood pressure better than drugs. Reduce stress in students. Reduce PTSD in disaster zones. If one dog can have those type of effects, imagine how your well-being could increase by having two French Bulldogs instead of one! Do French Bulldogs need another dog companion? Based on having the puppy stay with us, I can say with no doubt in my mind that French bulldogs do need a companion. Frenchies are renowned as being companion dogs. They love human companionship, but also that of other dogs. Frenchies love to have a companion. If you live alone, have family and work commitments, and spend periods outside the home away from your dog then I recommend you have a pair to keep each other company. Do French Bulldogs get lonely? French Bulldogs do get lonely. He will be excited at first, but then then for about an hour he will tend to mope about. But the bottom line is, Frenchies are social companion dogs, and do get very lonely. Just another reason why French bulldog need a companion in the form a second dog. There are a lot of factors you need to consider before buying a second dog. Her and Claude get on like a house on fire for the majority of the time apart from when around food which I will come onto in a moment. But it might not always be that way. When you introduce a second French Bulldog into your home, you need to make sure that you initially take things very slow. Make sure that the first meeting between the two takes place on neutral ground on a long walk away from the home. You might have to give them both their own space if you feel there is the potential for aggressive behaviour. Resource guarding: this can apply to their bed, their owners, and almost always the food. Frenchies can be very protective of these aspects so all are a potential flashpoint. Look out for raised hackles, teeth-baring, and ears back. Continue to take it slow: above all, continue to take things slow. Some dogs will become stressed when a new rival turns up in the home so continue to take the introduction slow over the first 7 days. Naturally the puppy was inquisitive towards our cat, but a few hisses and swipes later, the puppy knew her place. We made sure to keep our cats food and bed up high so she had her own space to get away from the excitable pair of French Bulldogs. Occasional aggression Whilst most of the time the play between the pair of Frenchies was good-natured, there did come certain points where Claude had had enough. The main flashpoint we found though was around food. This led to teeth showing, growling, and aggression. We had to closely monitor this as the puppy was still being fed three times a day see feeding schedule we kept feeding areas separate sometimes. Be prepared to have the occasional aggression between the two, particularly in the first couple of weeks as they start to learn the boundaries between each other. Jealousy One of the funniest aspects we found when having 2 French Bulldogs in our home was jealousy. We found that Claude would get jealous and try to squeeze his way between my wife and the puppy. Food, insurance, and vet bills We were able to give the puppy back at the end of her 10 day stay, but if we did decide to own a pair of Frenchies, the food and vet bills will of course, double. Poop and pee Talking of doubling-up… the dreaded poop and pee scenario. And that was on top of the poop that Claude was leaving in his fenced off garden area. I think this is the worst part about getting a second French Bulldog. I can cope well with pretty much the rest, but the double amount of poop did start to get quite frustrating. Copying negative traits We like to think we have Claude quite well trained. But once the puppy was in our house, they teamed up to become monsters! I am being a little tongue in cheek here, but genuinely, they wrecked our garden. Claude is usually just an occasional digger. I had to stop them digging holes in the lawn countless times. I can only assume that whilst French bulldogs are good in pairs in the main, they will act as tag team to possibly do more naughty things. Either way, it was quite annoying! Conclusion When the puppy finally left us to go back to her owners, Claude did act a little lonely and sad looking for about 2 days. My wife and I were wracked with guilt, so spent lots of time giving him attention to try and take his mind off things. We are now seriously considering getting a second Frenchie to act as a companion for Claude. If and when we make that decision to get a companion dog for Claude, you will be the first to know and see about it so keep coming back to the blog! Two Frenchies! Many of our clients who raise a wonderful French Bulldog soon realize they want to adopt a sister or a brother. We know it too well: on the TomKings Puppies farm we are always surrounded by several babies and enjoy every minute of our time with them. In this article, we share with you some essential pieces of advice on when and how to adopt your second puppy if you want to grow the family. Why adopt more Frenchies? Apart from the extra love and joy a second Frenchie will give you, they also entertain each other and play with each other; they never get bored which eventually makes your life a lot easier. Your lifestyle will not change dramatically after adopting your second puppy. Easier to socialize the second puppy When adopting the second puppy, pick one who is younger than six months, as your first Frenchie will accept him or her quicker. As your first puppy is already socialized, you will have an easier time to train the newcomer as he or she can also learn things from the first Frenchie. Frenchies usually get on well with other puppies, but they have their personality, and two dominant types can end up fighting a lot. Always consult the breeder about the character of the puppies and tell them about the Frenchie you already have. Subscribe to our weekly blog newsletter: Subscribe to our blog newsletter! First name Email There a few precautions to keep in mind when introducing them to each other for the first time — Make them meet in a neutral place, not at home, as otherwise, your first puppy might feel his or her territory threatened. A boy or a girl? Probably the best you can do is to adopt one of each gender as in our experience a boy and a girl pup get along very well. They even travel together which is very reassuring for them. For this reason, we do our best to make them fly in pairs if possible, even if they belong to two different families. The short answer to this question is yes, two French bulldogs are better than one! They Become a Pack Are you a dog person? If so, then you probably already know that French bulldogs are social animals. Frenchies are pack animals, meaning that they look to other members of their species for protection and guidance. They like being with other dogs, and they tend to bond with one or two specific humans as well. They feel like they are a pack now and you are their pack leader. Dogs are social animals, and they thrive on companionship. When you adopt two dogs, you are giving them a best friend who will always be there for them. They will not feel alone when you are not there with them. Two dogs can also provide each other with an extra layer of protection. If one dog is feeling nervous or scared, they can rely on their sibling to comfort them or help keep them safe. And if your dogs have a habit of getting into trouble like chewing on your shoes then having two dogs will give them someone else to blame for the messes! Easier Training French bulldogs are social animals, and they learn by observing other dogs. So if you have two dogs, they may be able to learn from each other and be easier to train than one dog could be on its own. However, it depends. But if you want different things out of each dog—then it might be more complicated. Well, if you have two French bulldogs, then they are always there to give each other company. This can become an issue with just one dog in the house—but the situation will be different when there are two. Your pups will keep themselves occupied with their games and activities. How cute is that? If they have a sleeping buddy they will stay warm because of their natural heat and they will not run into your bed. However, it is also important to get sleeping beds for your Frenchies. This Shark bed for Frenchies is the best thing that you will need for them. Although it looks like a shark it is very comfortable and warm and your pups will love it. Make sure to get separate for each of your pups. Things To Consider Before Getting Second Frenchie If you have the time, money, and commitment to care for a dog, then getting a second one is a great idea. Having two dogs is fun and interesting, but it comes with its own set of responsibilities. You need to make sure that each dog gets enough attention and exercise. Sometimes they can be very friendly with each other, but other times they can fight over resources like toys or food bowls. If this happens often enough then it could be dangerous for both dogs! Conclusion If you love French bulldogs, then one is great. But two is better. According to the study, the benefits for your lifestyle seem to increase exponentially with each additional canine. If you are thinking of the second one, two is better; it also makes sense for large homes and families who love dogs. Two Frenchies are more than worth it if you can swing it. Falling in love with your first French Bulldog can often lead to well… another one. These little members of the family can be equal parts hilarious and adorable — having two could only be twice as nice and double the joy. Not so fast- slow your roll! There are a few things to consider before having two French Bulldogs in your family. This means the elder Frenchie should already have experienced basic training. They will follow suit of your elder dog in both good habits as well as not so desirable ones. If your first French Bulldog needs a tune-up with their training, I recommend you prioritize that, so you set both yourself and your new French Bulldog puppy up for success. When a pack leader is not home, your dog can develop separation anxiety and build up a lot of pent-up energy. Being at home with nothing to do can lead to undesirable behavior even with dogs that have relatively low energy levels like French Bulldogs. French Bulldogs especially are very sensitive breeds and cannot be left alone as long as other dogs not to mention their teeny tiny bladders. I have a whole blog post on separation anxiety and tips to work through it with your pup! Ask yourself if you have the time and patience to dedicate to your new dog just like you did your first dog? As dog owners know, it takes commitment and repetition for a responsible dog owner to fully get your dog out of puppyhood. Assess your current lifestyle and living arrangement. Does owning a second Frenchie fit into the mix? Will you be able to handle the added responsibility of taking care of two Frenchies? After all, we know they can be a high-maintenance breed. Financial practicality. Remember the adjustment period you had when you brought home your first dog? Now triple it. There are known costs like food, veterinarian visits, and toys, but you must always be ready for unknown expenses. Even if you have insurance which I highly recommend! I have a video about if you should get insurance. A good match. Does your Frenchie get along with other dogs? How about their energy level? Conclusion In the end, a second Frenchie will be as time-consuming as your first puppy, but with a little time, patience, and commitment, two French Bulldogs are twice as rewarding! They love to play, and they really love to eat. Therefore, the best dog food for bulldogs should consist of plenty of high-quality proteins, enough carbohydrates to fuel their bodies, and fats for normal joint function and overall health. But just like us, dogs are individuals. So choosing a food specifically for their individual needs can be a little more complicated. For one, there are hundreds of different brands with different nutritional values that most of us would find confusing. And secondly, since each bulldog is different, they all have different weights, ages, activity levels, and preferences. Adding to the confusion, bulldogs can have sensitivities to certain ingredients and can be allergic to others. So to make the task easier, we have prepared a special guide for American Bulldog owners so they can identify which dog food will best suit their unique pup. Macro-nutrients or macros consist of three major groups of food; proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. We already have an idea about the number of macros we should feed bulldogs, but here are some details that you need to know: Proteins For an American Bulldog, proteins are the most important macro. Proteins consist of amino acids that help in repairing muscle tissue and provide lots of energy so your dog stays active. More than that, proteins also aid in the release of hormones and enzymes and help in strengthening the immune system, amongst other things. Because bulldogs have a muscular body, your dog food must provide enough protein to maintain their physical structure. Carbohydrates Carbohydrates are necessary for providing energy to your bulldog. The two most common sources of carbohydrates in dog foods are grains brown rice, oatmeal, barley and vegetables potatoes, peas. Although carbohydrates are important too, you should generally opt for a dog food that has lower carbohydrate content. Fats Fats are important as they make dog food tastier and thus more appealing to your dog. But more than that, fats are essential for the healthy functioning of nerves, body cells, and joints. Fats also provide almost twice as much energy as proteins and carbs. Daily Caloric Intake for Bulldogs The question of how many calories a bulldog should eat is rather confusing. The reason for this is because bulldogs can vary drastically from one another, and thus will have completely different calorie requirements. Bulldogs can weigh anywhere between 60 to pounds on average, and their activity levels can vary widely as well. They might be a puppy, or an adult, or even a senior. Also, they can be either male or female and might be spayed or neutered. All of these factors play a huge role in determining the right amount of calories your bulldog should consume without being under or overfed. However, there still is a standard measure of how much calories your bulldog should consume. Some smaller bulldogs might even be satisfied with fewer than calories, while some heavier and more active ones would require as much as calories a day to stay lean and healthy. But like we said before, it all depends on the individual dog. These can give you a good estimate as to how much you should be feeding them. Thus feeding them with the right frequency can help make sure they remain healthy and fit. Puppies are generally more energetic but have smaller stomachs, and thus need regular feeding to stay active. For bulldogs between the ages of 4 to 6 months, the frequency should be reduced to three portions a day. And once your bulldog is older than six months, you can follow the adult feeding regime which is feeding them two portions a day. Common Health Issues in American Bulldogs Although bulldogs are a healthy breed, they are prone to developing health issues at any life stage. Early identification of these issues can protect your dog from more severe problems later on by making the necessary changes in their diet and lifestyle. Hip Dysplasia, Elbow Dysplasia, and Joint Problems Hip and Elbow dysplasia is a degenerative health condition in which the hip or elbow joints fail to develop properly, leading to pain and even arthritis later in life. Joint problems are also more common in bulldogs due to their larger body size compared to their short legs. Although hip and elbow dysplasia is genetic and incurable, recognizing them earlier on can prevent them from worsening with age. Feeding them proper food along with exercise and physical therapy can save your bulldog a lot of pain and discomfort in their golden years. Obesity Obesity is a particularly serious issue with bulldogs. Because these dogs love to eat, they can easily be overfed. Obesity worsens joint and hip conditions as well as leading to many other health problems. Place your thumbs on their back where their spine is, and wrap your fingers along their midsection so that your hand is wrapped around their body and then try to feel their ribs. Foods You Should Avoid Feeding Your Bulldog Just like any other pet, there are certain foods you should refrain from feeding your bulldog as well. Some of these foods can cause stomach issues, while others are toxic for bulldogs. Onion and Garlic: Both of these are extremely dangerous as they can cause anemia in bulldogs. If fed in large amounts, they can cause organ damage or failure. Chocolates: Although chocolate seems like a pretty harmless food, it is severely toxic to dogs. Fruits with pits: Most fruits that have pits in them contain cyanide. In large amounts, this can cause seizures, vomiting and an irregular heartbeat. Some pits also pose a choking hazard to bulldogs. Macadamia Nuts: These nuts contain compounds that can cause vomiting, inflammation, and joint pain in dogs. Food Allergies and Sensitivities in American Bulldogs Just like other dogs, American Bulldogs can be allergic or sensitive to certain ingredients too. Here are some of the more common allergies and sensitivities found in American Bulldogs: Grains: This is a very common sensitivity and allergy found in bulldogs. Soy: Soy is another ingredient that can cause rashes and itching in bulldogs. Beef: Although beef allergy only affects a minority of bulldogs, you should take it seriously. There are plenty of other dog foods with proteins like lamb, chicken, and turkey, which you can choose instead. The content on this blog is not a substitute for veterinary guidance. Buying Guide Allergies Do you love your Bulldog but dread the idea of him getting a rash or an upset stomach? Gluten-free dog foods can be made with potatoes, sweet potatoes, or chickpeas. To avoid this unpleasantry altogether, just choose one labeled hypoallergenic to ensure safety from rashes and other allergic reactions like itchy skin and ear infections caused by bacterial growth in moist areas without proper ventilation. Some dogs tend to eat less than others during each mealtime; this may affect what kind of budget —or even which brands- best suit them! As your puppy grows, you can graduate to larger size kibble like Royal Canin design their smaller bites and Bulldog jaws in mind. For example, if you have an adult bulldog over 12 months old, their diet should be different from the one for all-life stages four weeks or older. It can be hard to know how a bulldog will react when it comes down to chicken. Some are allergic, while others seem ok with the food. You should always buy quality dog foods but if you notice symptoms of an allergy, then steer clear from this type of protein entirely! Although some dogs might not have any problem eating chicken , there are still plenty that need more care than just giving them any old things — especially those who may be sensitive or allergic to poultry products like eggs and turkey. Things To Look Into For American Bulldogs When it comes to American Bulldogs , choosing the right food is crucial, and there are many things you should consider before purchasing. The American Bulldogs can weigh anywhere between pounds. For example, hip dysplasia and ACL tears will be more common in heavier dogs due to all their added weight around joints and bones, which makes them vulnerable at higher rates than other breeds might have been. Keeping your pet healthy by getting enough exercise and not allowing too many treats while keeping an eye out for any extra fat or bulges should help tremendously! The food you serve should be packed full of nutritious protein, such as chicken, beef, or pork. Lean, high-quality proteins are best for your guests, and they will thank you with their business — so always check the brand to see where the company sources its meat from. Your American Bulldog needs healthy doses of Omega-3 and six fatty acids to have a strong immune system, heart function, muscle shape. Not all carbs are created equal! Simple carbohydrates like rice or blueberries digest more easily than complex ones such as grains which many dogs have difficulty digesting. Some believe that fiber is important for digestion, but some dog foods are more difficult to digest. Always read the ingredients list, so you know what goes into those kibbles before feeding them to your pup. This is because they vary so much from one another, with some being smaller and others larger. Bulldogs are full of surprises! Bulldogs have a wide range of activity levels and can change over time too — from puppyhood into adulthood, senior citizens even. All these factors go towards figuring out the right amount of calories that bulldogs need without being underweight or overweight at any point in their life cycle, so make sure you get it just right with our easy-to-use food calculator tool! It all depends on the individual dog. The Royal Canin Bulldog Puppy is also an excellent choice if your pup has special needs or nutritional requirements. We hope this roundup helped you figure out which type of dog food to buy! Related Links. While these heavy-set medium-sized dogs were first bred for fighting, American Bulldogs are really just big ole softies. They are easygoing, friendly, and highly social, which is why they make excellent companions for singles. American Bulldogs are also confident, courageous, and trainable, which is why they are much-loved family pets. They are highly attentive and will keep watch over the family. At the same time, they are docile pets that will stay close and nap at your feet while you watch TV. If trained and socialized early, American Bulldogs tolerate children well and are eager companions that are always ready for playtime. According to the American Kennel Club , American Bulldogs weigh about 50 pounds and can grow up to about 15 inches in height. They have a life expectancy of about 10 years and are generally physically strong and healthy dogs. American Bulldogs are prone to certain health issues, including hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, kidney problems, thyroid problems, cherry eye, ACL tears, and bone cancer. Depending on the genetic line, they can also develop ichthyosis a skin disorder causing dry scales and neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis or NCL a nervous system disorder. American Bulldogs are also prone to developing allergies. But did you know that these strongly-built dogs can jump up to seven feet? American Bulldogs love to eat and thus have a tendency to become overweight. You also need to make sure that the ingredients will contribute to keeping your American Bulldog pup lean and muscular. Look out for fillers like corn, soy, wheat, and bean hulls, which are in many dog foods. These have little to no nutritional value and can contribute to your dog developing bloat. Being overweight also contributes to the development of conditions like hip and elbow disorders. Many dog food companies offer low-carbohydrate dog food varieties. These are worth checking out. Protein Because they are highly active and incredibly muscular, American Bulldogs require a diet rich in protein. A sufficient level of protein helps maintain the muscle mass of American Bulldogs, gives them sustained energy to romp around all day long, and helps prevent muscle, bone, and joint problems. The appropriate food for American Bulldog puppy contains meat protein as the primary ingredient. Like other allergy-prone breeds, American Bulldogs do best on purer forms and single sources of lean protein. Bone health American Bulldogs have short limbs and muscular frames, which makes them prone to hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. These conditions can lead to crippling lameness, muscle atrophy, and may cause severe pain. Hip and elbow dysplasia are common in larger dogs. They usually start early in life and are often hard to prevent. The ideal food for American Bulldog puppy should thus contain sufficient levels of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, glucosamine, and chondroitin. Studies have found that these can help keep the bones, joints, and tissues lubricated and help reduce inflammation. Allergies American Bulldogs can develop allergic reactions to some foods. If you are unsure if your American Bulldog puppy is allergic to certain ingredients, try a variety of dog foods with different protein sources and see if he reacts to any of them. If your dog is experiencing an allergic reaction, you may catch him licking his paws or observe red and itchy skin under his fur. Despite their size and stocky build, American Bulldogs are excellent jumpers. To avoid allergies, the most nutritious food for American Bulldog puppy should have as few ingredients as possible and should be grain-free. Avoid dog foods with highly allergenic grains like wheat. In terms of carbohydrate source, there should be good hypoallergenic starches like sweet potatoes and barley. Bloat Bulldogs are known for excessive gassiness, which can cause bloat. This is a serious medical condition that can be fatal. To avoid bloat, you should steer clear of dog foods that contain highly fermentable ingredients like grains, milk products, and fillers. Choose dog foods that have a low fiber content and that contain wholesome sources of protein, fruits, and vegetables. Nowadays, plenty of dog food manufacturers resort to unethical practices to drive down production costs. There are companies, for instance, that hide the real first ingredient in their products by splitting the ingredient up. American Bulldogs do best on a diet that is high in protein and low in simple carbohydrates and filler ingredients. A certain dog food may be made up primarily of corn. To avoid having to identify corn as the first ingredient, the company could split it into two ingredients: corn flour and corn meal. This allows them to list a different ingredient, like a protein source, as the first ingredient. To find the ideal food for American Bulldog puppy, ask for recommendations from your veterinarian, other dog lovers, and breeders in your community. The original turkey and chicken formula we recommend here is particularly appropriate for American Bulldogs because of the high lean protein content and the high-quality carbohydrate sources. This Wellness Core dog food also contains probiotics for good digestive health and antioxidants for overall nutrition. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. We even have all types of golden retrievers for sale! At My Golden Retriever Puppies, we pride ourselves on our golden retriever price being fair and affordable for high quality puppies. Today, some believe that dominance training is required for a dog like a Rottie, where the pack-leader is known as the owner versus the dog. This type of training should never be aggressive and can be done by setting rules and boundaries and then using a firm, consistent approach to reinforce them. It can be as easy as having him hold his ball, a stick or a bag on your ride or run. Given its large size, when properly socialized, this dog is kind and loving, getting along well with kids and other animals. He should bark if what he sees as a threat—like new faces or sounds. Rotties tend to be calm and aloof. They also love their families and are lovable, playful, and affectionate with them. As long as they have been properly socialized, a Rottweiler will still be alert and protective of their families, but they will also be open and friendly to new people, especially once they have been introduced. The other parent breed will introduce some traits that could affect this in a Rottweiler Mix, so you want to make sure you ask about them. You can also meet the mother dog in-person to see what her temperament is like and the manners she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should have started training and socialization, it is up to you to continue training and socializing a puppy once you get them home. Rottweilers are moderately adaptable dogs that are better suited to homes with fenced yards. They are more sensitive to heat and do not tolerate extreme temperatures very well. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. The other parent breed could introduce the potential for a Rottweiler Mix to be more or less adaptable. They could inherit none of the conditions common to their parent breeds, or they could inherit all of them or any combination of them. From the Rottweiler side, potential health conditions to be aware of in a Rottweiler Mix include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and osteosarcoma. So, you should be asking about the health and genetic history of both of the parents anyway. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Although the Rottweiler is a highly trainable dog breed that picks up on things quickly and is eager to please, they can be a challenge for first-time dog owners. They need structure and consistency in training and a confident leader to train them. As such, puppy training classes are recommended. The other parent breed could make a Rottweiler Mix easier or more difficult to train, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. For example: the AKC recognizes two pug colors as breed standard, fawn and black. These are the colors required for a pug to be a show dog and compete in the ring. They are the breed standard. However, a non-fawn or black pug can still be AKC registered — they will just not be allowed in the show ring. Silver-fawn, apricot, and even rare and controversial colors like brindle, can be registered with the AKC and listed as an alternate color. So, if you see a non-standard colored pug listed as registered with the AKC, it is entirely possible. You can read it here. The pug breed standard is the blueprint for the breed, and the target for which breeders should aim. The Pug Dog Club of America firmly states that: All reputable breeders of pugs are not interested in the development of any color of pug other than fawn or black. Black Pug Even though fawn is the most common color of pug, the black gene is dominant. Black pugs have a rich, dark coat, and their muzzle or mask, and ears are black too. Silver-fawn and Silver Pugs Silver-fawn is oftentimes labeled as a type of fawn. They have a shiny gray sheen to their coats and are the lightest color a pug can be. Silver-fawn pugs are pretty rare, and many who have them categorize them as fawns, instead of silver-fawns. Apricot Pugs Apricot pugs have warm undertones of orange in their coats.
