What is a mini golden retriever? On average, they weigh pounds. Our Mini Goldens are crossed with specific Poodle lineage to avoid health and temperament issues the other breeds can cause, and are hypoallergenic, shed less and live longer than Golden Retrievers. Occasionally, we have some that weigh more than 45 pounds, or even less than 30 pounds. They generally have more Golden Retriever in them, so they are a closer carbon copy than the smaller Comforts. They generally have a little more poodle, so they may have more hypoallergenic and reduced shedding traits. Occasionally, we get white spots abstract or parti-colors from the Poodle side. Sometimes, we produce curly coated Comforts. We classify our coat types based on DNA results, not on visual appearance. Shed levels are individual to the dog, so while we hope that the majority of our dogs are low shedding, there are those who are moderate to heavy shedders. There are many factors that influence shedding as well. Some of these include season changes, weather, stress, illness, and a puppy transitioning to its adult coat. She is already so comfortable here and so attached. She gets so excited every time she sees us. And she has such a sweet disposition Everything goes for her. She just rolls with it. She loves to play and has lots of playful energy when she chases behind a toy or plays tug of war. But she loves to cuddle too, and she can busy herself well too without complaint. Yesterday we left her home when we went on a walk and she never barked or whined and was fast asleep when we returned. She accepted her crate as if she had never known any other place to rest. She just crawls in there and rests when she is tired. And when she wakes up, she quietly plays until we take her out of the playpen. Her potty training is going well. A couple of accidents here and there, but most of the time we catch her before anything happens, and she always does her business right away when we put her on the grass patch we have on the patio. She is getting a treat when she does her business. So, she actually figured out that if she spares some pee and squats several times, she will get several treats. Only One treat for the first time, everything after does not get rewarded any more. Wow, I have never seen a puppy learning that fast. And loving to learn. Being really food driven helps. I could not think of a better quarantine buddy to brighten up our day. I think she will be an amazing therapy dog who brightens up the day if many more people. Oh, and did I mention she is absolutely beautiful? Thank you again for that gift, Michele. I hope you are all doing well and are coping with the many new puppies. My ladbradoodle is a standard medium and has worn a medium sized collar since she was 4months or so! It's adjustable so it has lasted even until now. The large is way too big for her! I have only just bought a reflective collar so she can be seen in the dark. Maisy hasn't had any problems with these which are made of polyester. As for her lead she has 3! The first one i ever used with her was a cheap lead made out of nylon, even though it was purple and pretty, it didn't last long at all! Maisy soon chewed it whilst on a walk and it broke luckily just down the road from our house! I bought her a similar one but soon realised she just loves chewing them! The same goes for a cheaper pink leather lead i bought which has lasted ages now and she hasn't dared to chew it. This way she learns to heel and knows she needs to walk nicely. I only use it when i go to the park or the woods or any grass areas for her to run around but where i don't think would be safe to be off the lead ie: if it's near a road, near a dangerous dog, little kids etc This is ideal for Maisy to feel she is off the lead but not actually. She can sniff the stream etc without myself having to go near it. We have practised recall on it. I do however feel you need to keep an eye on what is around you as youwill get into knots if another dog on a lead gets playing and then you get tangled up which is a nightmare therefore i would recommend if you do notice a dog coming past then press the retract button so you can shorten the lead so that your dog is next to you just like on a short lead to prevent any tangles! I do not recommend using an extendable lead on the pavement where the space is quite narrow and relatively busy with people, bikes, cars near by, kids, elderly etc as this can be difficult. Therefore i would recommend one of each a leather lead and an extendable lead Unless your dog has any allergies or easily matted hair then any type of collar should be fine. It comes in sizes extra small to large, which is ideal for this breed since the dogs can range from small to large. Featuring an easy on and off plastic buckle, it has an adjustable slide that allows for simple adjustments. The sturdy construction helps the collar keep its shape and withstand pulling. Since Labradoodles love to stay busy, they also can dirty a collar quickly. With this one from Frisco, it is easy to keep it looking good because it is hand washable. You will also need to think about a training collar. Plus, we offer up some alternatives to our top choice in case you want more options. It also comes in multiple colors. Sizes range from petite to large with variable widths as well. It features a quick-release snap buckle. When it comes to durability, you can trust this will hold its size and not stretch thanks to the durable nylon construction. Beyond the benefits this style offers for training, it also is great if you worry about bald spots or matting that happens with flat collars. Even if you fully train your pup, you may use this style of collar for walks to avoid the fur damage. Halti Headcollar Coming in four sizes, the Halti headcollar allows you to efficiently steer your dog during training. If you have a Labradoodle that seems to have a stubborn streak, this can be quite effective. It also works nicely if you deal with a pulling issue. The collar is comfortable with no metal parts. The point of steering is also at the nose and not near the eyes where many headcollars sit, which is much more pleasant for your pup. Buckle-Down Vintage Dog Collar The unique aspect of this collar is its look because it features vintage designs and colors, which is different from the typical designs that are bold and bright. Another feature that makes it stand out is the seatbelt style stainless steel buckle closure. It offers a secure closure that even the friskiest Labradoodle will not be able to get undone. This collar comes in sizes small to large to fit any size Labradoodle. It has a sturdy construction that will make it last without wear. The polyester fabric also adds to the strength. The air mesh padding makes it comfortable for your pup, too. It is a vest style that comes in sizes small to extra large with the closure in the front. It also has a clasp in the back with a quick-release design. It can help to use this if your dog has neck strain or is having issues with a standard collar during training. OneTigris Military Dog Collar If you want something more hardcore, then this military dog collar may be for you. It even has a hook and loop for adding military patches. It comes in muted colors and is a standard flat collar. Sizes range from medium to large, so if you have a smaller Labradoodle, this might not be the right choice for your pup. This collar is durable with its nylon construction and heavy-duty buckle. It has five adjustable points, allowing you to size up or down as needed for extended wear. It also features a soft cushion padding to protect against skin irritation. It comes in sizes small to extra large and has a dual loop design to prevent slipping. The limited closure helps prevent over-tightening, and the tri-glide adjustable slide gives your dog a perfect fit. It comes in sizes 16 to 50 inches. You can choose from a range of colors. It is an overhead style with fast-release buckles on both sides of the belly and adjustments at each shoulder. It features nylon webbing and a padded mesh chest. The leash attachment is on the front of the chest to help discourage pulling. Plus, it allows you to gently redirect, which is good for a dog having trouble following your commands. Frequently Asked Questions Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about labradoodle collars. These should clear up any last minute concerns you may have! Type of Harness You likely noticed a few different harness types on this list, but do you know which type would be best for your pup? But if your pet is calm on walks, this could fit your needs. A padded harness offers more comfort, as it prevents the harness from digging into the skin. If your pup has anxiety, it might prefer a vest type of harness. This harness fits snugly, is padded, and offers a bit of restriction, which can ease anxiety. That same restriction may turn other canines off this kind of harness, though. Harness Size Once you know the harness you want, your next focus should be getting the correct size. You can also use this handle to make it easier to pick your dog up when needed. Reflective Harnesses Do you often walk your dog in the early morning or twilight hours? This ensures your dog can easily be seen no matter how much light there is, which keeps it and you safer. Some fabrics may be more breathable or softer on the skin than others, while some might be too scratchy or chafe too much. Price Harnesses come in a wide range of prices, so you should find one that fits your budget. And because many harnesses tend to have the same sort of features, you can shop around to find the most affordable one that fits your needs. Fellow dog owners will be able to inform you whether a harness is properly sized and how quickly it might break down. And when it comes to the dog breeding industry, this breed is what you call a designer dog. That is because they are specifically bred for the exact specific reason, getting these gorgeous Labradoodles. Mixing different breeds often comes with a lot of unknown variables as to how the offspring might turn out. While Labradoodles normally have similar looks, they do vary in size, temperaments, and fur types. That is why each puppy turns out to be a unique individual and must be treated as such. Different fur types mean different grooming habits. And different sizes mean getting a collar that would fit your dog. There is no one size fits all when it comes to dog collars. They may look the same, but they should be a perfect fit for your dog. Sizing Guide Every collar brand has a sizing guide, so before you purchase one for your Labradoodle, it is best to decide the first type of collar you are going to purchase. Normally Labradoodles may fall between small to medium size collars. Labradors are normally large dogs, but the poodles are not. How the parents look and their size must always be taken into consideration before you buy accessories for your growing dog. Points To Consider So when dealing with the qualities of a good dog collar, some points need to be taken into consideration. These are comfort, durability, safety, and quality. That is why collars that are made out of metal or hard plastic are not advisable but is good only for training methodology. Quality When you look for the right quality, it must be flexible and made out of hypoallergenic materials like neoprene, nylon, faux leather, and leather. This is important because dogs are prone to skin diseases especially after prolonged use of a dog collar. Durability A durable collar should be enough to keep the leash secure and in place. It should be able to withstand daily walks, dog park plays, and rainy days. A good collar should also not easily become stinky or stains easily. That is why collars that are machine washable or those that are easy to clean in general are the best choices. Faux leather is a good choice when it comes to durability and comfort, and they are very easy to clean as well. Safety When talking about safety, the materials that the collars are made of should not be toxic to your dogs. Unfortunately, we could not guarantee that the material is non-toxic especially when dealing with generic brands that are massively sold online. The thing about quality collars is that it is assured once you purchase from well-known brands. These are brands that have been in the industry for a very long time. Different Types Of Dog Collars For Labradoodles The different types of collars that would be best for your Labradoodles are flat collars, martingale collar, a head collar, and harnesses. You can go wrong with any of these types of collars as long as you get the product with the right quality and characteristics. It is also essential when you are training your Labradoodle. Flat Collar The flat collar is the most common type that is used on Labradoodles. Normally it is constructed with a buckle or something called a snap connector. These types of collars are usually constructed with leather or nylon and comes in many colors and sizes depending on the brand. Features The PetSafe Martingale collar prevents dogs from escaping their leashes. This one includes a quick-snap buckle to make it easy for owners to put on or take off the leash. Pros This is the collar that is recommended by vets and trainers for daily wear. Cons The size chart for this collar is not very accurate, so pet owners have to double check the sizing to make sure that they get the right size for their Labradoodles. Why We Like It We love that this collar is vet and trainer-approved for daily wear. You can read more about the collar and buyer reviews here. They are often affectionate and adaptable, and they have a temperament similar to that of guide dogs. However, Labradoodles require training as they have a lot of energy that dog owners would like to reign in. They also have jumping and pulling issues, so a strong collar is necessary for their training and leashing needs. Remember that the collar is first and foremost used for safety. It is also used for identification purposes. Collars are also used for training or bark control, although it would not hurt if your dog looks cute in them, too. That being said, it is better for Labradoodles to have a different collar for training and another for everyday use that will hold their ID tags. Make sure to check that you can fit two fingers under the collar to avoid choking or chewing hazards. Bonus — Want to know the different sizes of Labradoodles, and be guided on choosing the right collar? Learn more here. However, different types of dog collars are used for different purposes. Flat Collar The most common type of collar is the flat collar, which has a buckle or a snap connector, usually made of nylon and leather. Martingale Collar The martingale collar helps prevent pulling as it has a loop that tightens around the neck to discourage dogs from doing so. It adjusts accordingly to avoid choking but do note that it is not an everyday collar, so make sure that you supervise your dog whenever they are wearing it. Head Collar The head collar is great for more jumpy Labradoodles because it allows a lot of control. This collar looks similar to a horse bridle that fits around the neck and head. A head collar needs to be fitted carefully because it can get uncomfortable for our canine pets. Like the martingale collar, it is best to supervise dogs who are wearing it. Choke Collar There is also the choke collar, which is a metal chain with a ring on each end. This collar is often used to punish dogs. This may encourage Labradoodles to pull, but they are good for puppies who need to practice heeling. That being said, they are not always recommended for Labradoodle use. FYI — want to know what size collar for your Labradoodle puppy? It gives you greater control over your dog while reducing risks for injuries. There are different types of collars. While well-trained dogs are comfortable in fixed-circumference collars, halter collars are recommended for more aggressive dogs. Correction collars, meanwhile, are effective for training but should be taken off during playtime or unsupervised instances as they can cause strangulation. Letting your dog sleep at night without a collar will also give its skin a chance to air out. Some dogs take hours or days to get used to their leash and collar, but some can also take as long as two weeks or more. The important thing is that you take care to introduce them to the collars methodically. However, we believe that the overall best collar for Labradoodles is the Slopehill Dog Training Collar. Read Real Reviews On Amazon This is great especially for fur parents who have more than one dog to look after. It is of a good quality, too, so you can bet it will last a long time. There are plenty of features and colors to choose from, and choosing the right one is essential for the safety of your beloved pooch. Here are some tips to help you choose the best collar for Labradoodles. Size and Fit To select the right collar for your Labradoodle, you must know the size of your Labradoodle. Often, a dog collar comes with an accompanying guidebook with size measurements. This way, you can ensure that the collar will fit correctly. Comfort There are several factors to consider when buying a dog collar, from size to style. Choosing a dog collar that feels comfortable to wear is important for a number of reasons. So make sure you choose a safe and comfortable dog collar for your Labradoodle. Easy to Use Apart from looking for comfort, you should also look for an easy collar to fasten. Durability Choosing a durable dog collar is important for two reasons. Dogs have natural urges to chew, such as when they are hungry or when they are teething. The second reason is that the collar may get ripped or damaged by roughhousing. So make sure you choose a safe and durable collar for your dog. Safety When buying a dog collar, consider the safety of your pet. While you are shopping for a new collar for your pet, you should choose one which is safe to use. Style and Design There are different types of materials for collars, including leather, nylon, and faux leather. Dog collars can come in many different colors and patterns. So make sure you choose a collar that complements your dog. Quality Quality should be a top priority when buying a dog collar, and it should be made from superior materials. Dog collars should be easy to open and close, and the buckle should stay securely closed. Ensure the buckle is easily adjustable and does not snag. Frequently Asked Questions What size collar does a Labradoodle need? Use the measurements to find the proper size collar. A lot of dog collars are adjustable or belt-style, making them perfect for the size of your dog. So make sure you buy a collar that is a few inches bigger than the neck size. What size collar should I get for a Labradoodle puppy? There are two basic sizes: small and medium. To determine what size collar your Labradoodle puppy needs, you must use a tape measure to measure its neck and torso. Ideally, smaller puppies will need a collar 10 inches and below size, whereas larger puppies will need 10 inches and above size. Bottom Line While Labradoodles are known to be affectionate and adaptable, they do need the training to live a happy life. As a result, they need a proper collar to contain their energy and prevent them from running loose. If your Labradoodle is prone to pulling, a collar might be a good option. It will help you to easily take your dog for walks and train them to follow your commands. Home of Kennel free living and lots of loving! Good Gracious Goldens was created in when I decided to follow in my mothers footsteps as she has been raising them for over 3o years. Recently we welcomed our 3rd child and decided it was time to split the work without compromising the experience for our adopting families. Now we are working along side Lone Oak Goldens, my dear friend Lori. This decision is not one we took lightly as our reputation is very important to us but I knew her care and expertise would only make us better! I could not imagine a more wonderful partner. She raises them in her home in NE and brings them to my home when they are ready as most of our adopting families are in Colorado including many repeat families! Now I can put all my focus in the communication I pride myself on quick replies , while Lori is loving on the puppies and socializing them getting them ready to meet you! And trust me when you see these puppies you'll see just how much love was poured into them!! I like to say us working together for you, is the truly best of both worlds! We love the English Cream and American Golden breed. We couldn't imagine a better way of life! Of course watching them grow up and thrive is amazing, but I would say my favorite part is seeing the families faces when they see their new family member. Thank you for taking the time to read about us! Our Philosophy! We believe dogs and puppies should be unconditionally loved and cared for as they truly become part of your family. When choosing the right puppy for your family, there are many choices out there. Some puppies are raised in undesirable conditions, this is incredibly heart breaking. Which is why we raise our Golden Retrievers with absolutely no kennels. We believe this makes us different from other breeders. As we are continually trying to improve our breeding program. Our reason for raising English Creme Golden Retrievers is because of our love for the breed and the joy our dogs have brought to our lives. We desire an extraordinary puppy for your family too. When you pick us, we have to pick you too, as we too are selective when choosing forever homes for our pups. We recently joined our breeding program with Lone Oak Goldens. Two families raising puppies together equals double the love! We want to thank you for taking the time to let us introduce you to our family dogs "Grace", "London","Ellie", "Viva", "Margo", "Cooper" and "Hudson" along with their sweet puppies! The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Colorado Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. The Bernese Mountain Dogs are supposed to have worked on farms 2, years ago. Bernese Mountain dogs were initially called Swiss Mountain dogs. Although they were not originally from the Swiss Alps region, it is the area with which they have become the most strongly associated. The reason for this is their longevity, having been brought to the region by the invading Romans 2, years ago. They were also used as herders and traveled the Alps with their shepherding masters. As in many other areas of the world, the need for so many small farms decreased in the 19th century and the use for these pups along with it. They began to see a sharp decline in overall popularity. Luckily, there were devotees to the breed that worked hard to maintain their bloodlines. The Bernese Mountain dogs became popular all over Europe. When they were imported into the country, they quickly began their climb in popularity and were accepted by the AKC in .The Euro Mountain Sheparnese still have the hard work ethic and strength of the Bernese parents. It is due to these traits that they make excellent farm dogs. They like to have a job to do and appreciate more space to run around in as well. German Shepherds are a popular but relatively young breed. The Germans initially bred them, supposedly a Captain Max von Stephanitz, who wanted to produce the most obedient and well-rounded dog. He did so by studying desirable traits in many different dog breeds in Germany during the late 19th century and developed the German Shepherd as a result. Since then, they have spread around the world as a popular dog. It is mostly because of their alert temperaments, loyalty, and high trainability. So much popularity has encouraged bad breeding, where some desirable traits end up in the mix. These dogs can be mistaken for Rottweilers, depending on which parent they favor. Sometimes, it can be confusing to differentiate purebred and well-known dogs from other lesser-known hybrids. In the case of a Euro Mountain Sheparnese, they can easily be mistaken for a Rottweiler. The reason for this is because of their coat color and texture patterns. Both the German Shepherd and the Bernese Mountain dog have a double coat, meaning two layers of fur for extra protection from the elements. It also means that they tend to shed quite a bit. They also have similar color patterns to one another, black and tan, with the Bernese typically having white splotches on their chest and paws. If the hair ends up being shorter, favoring the typical German Shepherd look, then the combination of physical traits makes them resemble a Rottweiler. The best way to tell between the Euro Mountain Sheparnese and a Rottweiler is their overall build and height. The Euro Mountain Sheparnese is large but tends to have a more athletic body and longer legs. Rottweilers have thicker chests, square faces, and shorter legs. They inherit a strong work ethic and demure attitudes from both of their parents. Both can also be serious, although younger pups still like to play with their family members. They are generally quite easy to train, but their size, energy, and sometimes temperaments make them not fit for first-time owners. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are protectors, though, and take this charge quite seriously. These dogs can be wary of strangers; however, they are friendly and attentive with their own family. Their affection is what makes them a beloved pet. Regarding their parent breeds, it is relatively unpredictable how well they will get along with other dogs. Sometimes they can be quite territorial, while at other times, they are friendly and extremely social. Keep in mind that each dog is different, no matter what breed they come from, and they may need extra training to behave appropriately in different social situations. It is possible for these dogs to eat you out of house and home. They can eat 3. Check into the parental sensitivities from the breeder, especially of the German Shepherd. If you are still concerned about food sensitivities, you can get various blood tests done to check. If you have one of these dogs, you will find that vets and breeders highly recommend avoiding food with any fillers or additives. In these dogs, it can lead to behavioral issues. A post shared by Rocky rocky. They need a great deal of exercise each day and are thus not an appropriate choice for those who live in apartments or small homes unless they belong to an active owner. They need about 3 hours of high to medium levels of activity each day or about 14 miles of walking every week. Since they are highly trainable, you can try agility training. Since they need quite a bit of socialization, it is best to take them to some sort of dog park from as young an age as possible. They are large dogs that were often used for pulling, especially the Bernese Mountain dog. It means that they are known to pull on the leash, but this can be trained out of them with consistency. Forming a bond with these dogs is a sure way to find success in obedience training. The trainer needs to establish themselves as the leader. When this is established, their intelligence and willingness make them quick and easy to train. They need daily brushings to keep any knots out of their fur and their skin and coat healthy. You need to clean their ears thoroughly every several days, removing wax and dirt from the inside and preventing infection. Brush their teeth at least a couple of times a week, preferably daily because these dogs sometimes suffer from dental issues. Like many other big dogs, they have relatively short lifespans. Make sure to bring them to the vet at least once a year to catch any health issues as soon as possible. Minor Conditions. Meningitis Heat sensitivity By ensuring that your dog gets the right food diet and exercise, you can help increase the lifespan of your dog companion. For puppies, it is recommended to delay neutering, about 10 months. Delayed neutering is beneficial for the dog to achieve correct hormone levels and stimulate proper growth and development. Moreover, early neutering may cause further hip dysplasia later on. Take note of this 3 important tips for your Euro Mountain Sheparnese nutrition needs: Carrying out blood tests to identify any food allergies: This is recommended since both parents of this mixed breed dog are known to have certain dietary sensitives. The German Shepherd side of his lineage is known to be easily prone to nutritional sensitivities. Choosing the right food: Pet dogs enjoy the same food humans do. Make sure you choose the right food product that will attend to all your dog nutritional needs. Dog foods rich in carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, and minerals are highly recommended. Implement positive reinforcement training methods. Euro Mountain Sheparnese loves treats and encouragement so expect them to be very responsive. Make sure to avoid punishment-based training since this hybrid dog may tend to respond aggressively when being punished or shouted at. Train your hybrid dog consistently in a positive method, and your dog will reward you with obedience and loyalty. His Bernese Mountain Dog lineage is known to pull on anything, but proper training can help fix this. Obedience Training: Train your Euro mountain Sheparnese puppies to grasp basic obedience training commands such as sit, down, stay and recall. This will also help improve bonding with your friendly companion. Correcting Growling and Aggression: It is vital to train your hybrid dog to not be aggressive to people and to other dogs as well. This hybrid dog is not particularly cautious of strangers but may bark in alarm, which may not be dog-friendly. Early social training is essential since the German Shepherd parent of this hybrid can be aloof. He loves to be with the people all the time. But, you do want to talk to the breeder about the other dog breed in the mix. Because a mixed-breed dog can inherit any combination of traits from one or both parents, the other parent breed will introduce some other potential traits into the mix and you will want to be aware of what those are. Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for their large, fluffy appearances and their friendly, affectionate personalities. They get along well with children, other pets, and other people. They can have a high prey drive, so they may need some extra socialization with other smaller pets in the household. Talking to the breeder about the other parent breed and meeting the mother dog can give you an idea of potential temperament. But, once you get a puppy home, continued training and socialization are up to you. The Bernese Mountain Dog is a moderately adaptable dog. As long as an apartment can handle their large size and they still get plenty of exercise, they can adapt to apartment living even though they are better suited to larger homes with yards. The other parent breed in the mix could result in a Bernese Mountain Dog Mix that is more or less adaptable than the Berner parent. So, you do want to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed to get an idea of what potential range to expect. Are mixed-breed dogs healthier than established breeds? A mix can inherit the potential health conditions common to one, both, or neither of their parent breeds. On the Bernese Mountain Dog side, potential health concerns to be aware of include elbow dysplasia and hip dysplasia. As a large dog breed, they are also more prone to bloat. They are intelligent and eager to please their owners, so they tend to be a good fit for owners of any experience level. But, they are a working breed with a lot of energy, which can be challenging for first-time dog owners. If the other parent breed is similar when it comes to training, then you can expect the same in a Bernese Mountain Dog Mix. If not, then you will want to be prepared for a dog that may be more difficult to train. Puppy training classes can be a big help and they also often offer opportunities to socialize a puppy. A mix can inherit a coat that is similar to one of the parent breeds or a true combination of both. If they inherit the Berner coat, a Bernese Mountain Dog Mix will have a thick, fluffy double coat that will shed year-round and heavier during seasonal changes. During the recent COVID pandemic, we were all placed in lockdown, meaning that many people were stuck at home. So, thousands of people in the US and other countries suddenly had time on their hands with little to do. What a perfect time to bring a canine companion into your life! As a result, the demand for puppies sky-rocketed in every state , massively outstripping supply. Doodles proved to be especially popular, largely for their so-called hypoallergenic qualities that made these curly-coated canines perfect for dog-loving pet allergy sufferers. Within a few months, it became next to impossible to get a Doodle puppy, with waiting lists exceeding 18 months in many areas and prices going through the roof! More and more dog owners are returning to work, meaning that Fido is left home alone. I have friends who bought a puppy during lockdown while they were working from home or furloughed. That was a perfect situation, as my friends had plenty of time to train, socialize, and spend time with their new canine companions. But once the lockdown was relaxed and the family returned to work and school, the dog was left home alone. Good News The good news is that most Goldendoodle breeders in most states now have plenty of Goldendoodles for sale, and prices have plummeted. So, would-be dog owners can buy a Doodle puppy without having to break the bank and wait for months until one becomes available. One massive problem that reared its head during the Doodle boom was the upsurge of puppy mills. Puppy mills and backyard breeding operations produce as many puppies as quickly as possible to make a big profit while demand is high. Thankfully, the slump in demand for puppies has seen many puppy mills go out of business. Bad News However, many reputable breeders who specialize in producing high-quality Goldendoodles now find themselves with puppies no one wants and are reducing their prices. But perhaps the worst consequence of the burst bubble is that so many dogs, through no fault of their own, are handed to shelters because their owners no longer have the time to care for their pets. Now that the lockdown bubble has burst, most breeders have puppies available without needing a long waiting list. That means you should be able to choose and buy a puppy within a matter of weeks, depending on what time of the year you start looking around for your new furry friend. If you want to wait for a particular dam and sire to produce a litter, you might have to wait longer. How to Pick a Responsible, Ethical Breeder A responsible, ethical breeder will: Be happy for you to visit their kennels and meet the puppies and their mother. Be happy for you to visit more than once to be sure that you and the puppy are compatible. Answer your questions and interview you to ensure their puppy is going to a good home. Show you their license to prove they are a registered breeder. Puppy Mills Red Flags Puppy mills usually give themselves away by: Trying to rush you into buying a puppy. Suggesting that they deliver a puppy to you or meet you in a car park or service station to hand over the pup. FAQs Here are the answers to a few of the most frequently asked questions about Goldendoodles. Q: How much are Goldendoodles in Florida? Q: Is a Goldendoodle a high-maintenance dog? A: All dogs need an amount of daily exercise to remain healthy. Goldendoodles tend to be lively, energetic dogs that need plenty of walks, interactive playtime sessions, and training. In addition, a visit to the grooming salon is necessary every four to six weeks to have your pet bathed and clipped and his nails to be trimmed. A: Goldendoodles are relatively long-lived dogs, so you must be prepared to make a long commitment if you take home one of these pups. Smaller varieties of this popular breed tend to live longer than larger ones. So, you can expect a mini Goldendoodle to enjoy around 15 years of a happy, healthy life, whereas a larger, standard Goldendoodle might only survive for around ten years. Q: Can Goldendoodles be left alone? A: Goldendoodles are very family-focused dogs that can suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long periods. However, if you take the time to properly crate train your pet, you can expect to leave him alone for up to six hours without problems. What kind of diet do we give our pooches for a healthy weight? What you should never overfeed a dog? You should never ever overfeed your dogs too much carbs as they get stored as fat in the body if they are not used. Unfortunately, carbohydrates are much cheaper an ingredient as compared to the other nutrients like protein. Hence, they are often used by major large dog food manufacturers to make up the weight of dog food whilst keeping the prices of the dog food low. This is the main reason why pets all over the United States are getting obese. As a bonus, regular meal time will also discourage them from scavenging around the house like little vacuum cleaners as they grow accustomed to the amount of food they are given and to be used for the intervals between meal times. Like most dogs, Mini Goldendoodles achieve most of their growth in the first six months of their life. But you may be wondering how big they will get when they are fully grown. There are ways to predict their size including the following: Look at the parents — this is an obvious way of telling the adult size of your puppy as physical characteristics can be passed on from parents to puppies. Since the Mini Goldendoodle is a mixed breed of a Miniature Poodle and a Golden Retriever, their final size can range between the size of the two parents. If they are small, then your Mini Goldendoodle may still need more time to reach its final size. DNA test — doing a genetic test can also help you predict the final size of your puppy. Your vet can help you find the best company and help you interpret the results. Weight chart — typically, there is a Mini Goldendoodle growth chart that shows the estimated final weight of your puppy that you can use. You also need to keep a weight chart for your specific puppy as they grow so that you can track its growth and predict the final size. Typically, a fully grown Mini Goldendoodle weighs about 20 to 30 pounds and stands at a height of around 16 to 18 inches. At birth, they weigh about one pound and by the end of two weeks, they will double their weight. They spend most of the day sleeping as their eyes and ears are not yet developed. They depend on their mother for warmth and to go to the toilet. Your Mini Goldendoodle will go from barely walking to running around the house in a short amount of time. At this stage, their appetite increases, and they can start eating solid foods only at around the age of 6 weeks. Vaccinations happened during this period before they move to their new homes at the age of 8 weeks. They will show signs of independence, hence training them at this stage is important. It is important that you take them to the park and introduce them to other pets and people so that they can develop their socialization skills. Their diet should be made of quality protein so that they can develop strong and lean muscles. They are fertile at this stage but they should not get pregnant as they are not yet sexually mature. Some dogs will reach their adult height at this age, but they will still need more months to fill out. This is the time to spay or neuter your puppy. At this point, they are very curious and active about their surrounding. More training is required so that they remain obedient and develop good habits. Adult As an adult, your Mini Goldendoodle has achieved mental, sexual, and physical maturity and will begin showing its true personality. This can happen anywhere from 12 months of age. Factors That Affect Mini Goldendoodle Puppy Growth Genetics The genetics of your Mini Goldendoodle can affect their growth because they inherit certain factors from their parents such as final size and health conditions. Since this dog is a mixed breed, they can either look like their Mini Poodle or Golden Retriever parent when they are fully grown. Also, if your puppy inherits a disease from either parent, their growth can be affected, and they may be underweight or have stunted growth. Nutrition Nutrition is a key factor to consider when taking care of a Mini Goldendoodle. Since they are susceptible to bloat easily, ensure that the meals they are eating are well-balanced and contain all the necessary nutrients. A meal should contain high amounts of protein, fewer carbs, and enough fats as well as minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. Talk to your vet so that they can recommend the best diet suitable for the growth and development of your dog. If your dog is not involved in physical activity it can easily gain weight and develop destructive behavior. Since Mini Goldendoodles are active and energetic dogs they need between 30 to 60 minutes of exercise. However, be careful to not overdo the activities as they may develop joint problems. Regular visits to the vet will help catch any illness at an early stage so that treatment can be administered before the life of your dog is shortened. Neutering and spaying are procedures done in vet clinics where the ovaries in female dogs and testis in male dogs are removed surgically. The growth of your Mini Goldendoodle can be affected if they are spayed or neutered earlier before the closure of the growth plates because they depend on the reproductive hormones to close. It is recommended that you spay your Mini Goldendoodle at the age of between 6 and 9 months. However, they are beneficial to your dog in many ways. For instance, spaying helps to reduce the risk of pyometra, and mammary cancer and prevents pregnancy while neutering prevents testicular cancer, the development of aggressive behavior, and unnecessary breeding. The Mini Labradoodle is slightly shorter and lighter than the Mini Goldendoodle. As an adult, a Mini Labradoodle weighs between 15 and 25 pounds and stands at a height of about 14 to 16 inches. On the other hand, a Mini Goldendoodle weighs between 20 and 30 pounds with a height of around 16 to 18 inches. The main reason is nutrition as they could be eating less or more calories. If your dog is eating less food than required it will not gain enough weight or maintain a healthy muscle mass. However, if they are eating more food than they should, they will gain excess weight and could be obese. If you are keeping a mini Goldendoodle weight chart and notice that your dog is off the charts either too small or too big, take them to your vet and they can advise you on the best ways to help them reach a normal weight for their age. This can include supplementing, increasing or reducing exercise, and increasing or reducing food portions depending on the goal. The amount of food that your Mini Goldendoodle puppy needs per day depends on their age as the different stages need different nutrients. Between 4 and 5 months, they eat one cup of food distributed three to four times. From one year and above, they eat twice per day and require 2 to 4 cups of food. How To Choose A Goldendoodle Size Since there are different sizes of Goldendoodles, finding the right size for you will enable you to provide them with the best care that they need. There are different factors that you need to consider before choosing a Goldendoodle and they include: Space — ensure that the space you have is enough to satisfy the exercise needs a specific size of Goldendoodle needs. This includes inside the house, the backyard, and having a park nearby. Also, try to keep an eye on the dog when they are playing with the children as they can snap when provoked even if they are good with kids. Health Complications — you need to consider the potential health issues that come with a mixed breed such as a Goldendoodle. Even though they are generally healthy, Goldendoodles have certain genetic diseases that can shorten their lifespan. First, weighing them regularly enables you to track their weight to ensure that it remains healthy throughout their different stages of growth. Secondly, measuring their height enables you to buy the right clothes, and kennel doors, and enter them into competitions. You can use the bathroom scale to weigh your Mini Goldendoodle at home. First, hold the puppy then step on the scale and record the number. Secondly, put the puppy down then weigh yourself. First, ensure that your puppy is standing straight on the floor or table. Then, find the withers which are below the neck in between the shoulder blades. Mini Goldendoodle Genetics And Common Health Problems As with all breeds of dogs, there are certain health issues that you should be aware of before buying a Mini Goldendoodle. Most of these issues can be managed through proper veterinary care but could lead to a shorter lifespan. They include: Patellar Luxation — this is the most common health problem for a Mini Goldendoodle. It is also called dislocated knee injury. Hypothyroidism — it is similar to the disease that affects humans, and it leads to less production of hormones by the thyroid gland. This means that your dog can have excessive bleeding even with small cuts. This condition can be fatal. Progressive Retinol Atrophy — this condition leads to the degeneration of the retina causing blindness in dogs. This is a severe condition that can be fatal if not treated within an hour. Take your puppy to the vet immediately if you notice that they are bloated. Other Issues — you should also be aware of other health issues that this breed is susceptible to. They include joint and bone problems, ear infections, and allergies. Peter My name is Peter and I am a dog lover. I have two German Shepherd dogs, one of which is called Biscuit because his coat is very light with brown patches. My wife and I moved from the UK to Ohio where we now live with our two daughters. We love squash on weekends and following the English Premier League closely! Previous Article. A newborn Mini Goldendoodle weighs around a pound and measures up to 6 inches. After 2 weeks, their weight doubles up to 2 pounds and their height increases to 9 inches. These dogs grow significantly during 3 to 12 weeks. A 4- to 6-month-old Mini Goldendoodle typically reaches half of its maximum weight. Your pup may also feel less hungry at this age. You can expect your pup to stop growing by 6 to 8 months. Gender Male Mini Goldendoodles are generally bigger and heavier than females. Age A Mini Goldendoodle lives for 13 to 17 years at maximum. Despite being the smallest Goldendoodles, these dogs are believed to have longer lifespans than all the other types. The other Goldendoodle breeds usually live for 10 to 12 years. Remember, every dog is different, so their nutritional needs are also not the same. When a Mini Goldendoodle is in their puppyhood , they have high energy levels and a big appetite. Comparatively, adults or older dogs require fewer daily calories due to reduced activity levels. Generally, dogs love chicken, lamb, whitefish, rabbit meat, salmon, and beef. These are the best protein sources for your pal. Give fresh, raw, canned meals to meet their daily nutritional needs. You should avoid low-budget or low-quality foods with filler ingredients. Next, put your dog on a flat surface and make them stand naturally. Measure their height by placing the tape on their body from the ground to their shoulders, also called withers. Note all the measurements in inches in a notebook. As you know, Mini Goldendoodles typically stand 13 to 20 inches tall. Remember, all dogs are different, and so is their size and growth pattern. However, consult an expert if their growth rate falls below the normal range. The typical size of this breed ranges between 13 to 20 inches. A newborn measures only 6 inches and weighs a pound. After that, their growth rate stops or slows to 0. Not every Mini Goldendoodle has to reach the 20 inches mark. Just provide your dog with a well-balanced diet full of protein, vitamins, and minerals to ensure their healthy development. The size of your mini Goldendoodle is going to depend on their age and even their parents. There are a few different variations that can show up with the Goldendoodle depending on these factors, even within the mini breed. You also may need to wait until they are a little bit older to figure out the size of the puppy or even to figure out which of the pups out of the whole litter is going to be the biggest. By the time they get to eight weeks, they will keep the same weight order. So, if the puppy is the smallest in the litter by the time they go home with you, it is likely that they are going to stay the smallest, and so on. The older the Goldendoodle gets, the easier it is to estimate how big they will be when they get older. Even though it is kind of guesswork to figure out the adult weight when the Goldendoodle is small, you can expect that when you pick up the Goldendoodle at eight weeks, they will be somewhere between 4 to 9 pounds. This is slightly less than the other options. The standard Goldendoodle, for example, will likely be more than 9 pounds at eight weeks, and a medium Goldendoodle is often in the 8 to pound range. This means you will need to take what their weight is at eight weeks and then do a bit of math. If the puppy is an F1b Goldendoodle , just take their weight at 8 weeks and then multiply it by 4. Like many other types of dog breeds, the Goldendoodle is often going to do most of their growing during the first six months. It is not uncommon for the miniature Goldendoodle to reach half of their adult weight by the time they are just four months old. Their weight should start to level off between seven to 10 months of age, depending on their parents. As you are estimating the size of your dog, you may wonder when they are going to be done growing. Most dogs are going to finish growing somewhere between 1 to 2 years of age, but it is not uncommon for them to get to their maximum height by the time they are a year old. The rest of that time will be spent on them filling out. Your dog could hit a growth spurt right around that first birthday. They may not get much taller , though, but they will thicken up more than before. You will find that the Goldendoodle will have a special type of growing. The Golden Retriever parent is going to have a slower rate of growing tall compared to the Poodle parent breed, but they do happen to fill out more quickly. This can change the way that your Goldendoodle is going to grow depending on which parent they tend to get their genes from. Some Golden Doodles are going to grow at a slower rate than others, so do not be surprised if they are getting closer to two years before they hit that growth spurt and fill out. Since it is the mini Goldendoodle, they should still stick around the smaller size compared to the traditional or standard Goldendoodle. What are the Different Sizes for Mini Goldendoodles? If you are looking for a mini Goldendoodle to bring to your home, then you need to make sure that you are choosing the right size for the dog. Most of the time, those who go with the mini Goldendoodle will want the one that is between 20 to 30 pounds. This is a lot of fun to play with and can be a great source of entertainment around the home. It is possible to have the teacup, petite or toy, and mini of the Goldendoodle, and these can vary in size as well. Most breeders are going to consider a full-size mini Goldendoodle to be the type that is under 30 pounds, though there is not really a defined weight or height that comes with they are crossbred hybrid dogs rather than purebred dogs. Since there are so many different sizes that could fit into this, you may see that there are smaller weight classes that bring in the toy or teacup Goldendoodle as well to provide some separation for all the different sizes. While a mini Goldendoodle could potentially get up to 30 pounds, the teacup Goldendoodle is going to be a little bit smaller. This one is any Goldendoodle that weighs less than 13 pounds and is often about 11 inches or so tall. This is a very small version of the mini Goldendoodle, but it does provide some great options for pets for those who live in a small apartment and do not have room for the full Goldendoodle. However, the smaller dog may deal with more birth defects and genetic problems. You can also go with the toy or petite Goldendoodle. These are a little bit bigger, coming in between 14 and 15 inches in height and weighing around 20 pounds or less in most cases. These have fewer birth defects too, which makes them a good option to add to your home. Compared to the mini Goldendoodle, which can get between 20 to 30 pounds and up to 18 inches tall, these will fit into small places better. While the calculations that we did above can do a great job of helping you get an estimate on the size of your Goldendoodle, there are a few DNA tests that you can use to help predict the adult size of the mini Goldendoodle. One of the best tests is Embark , which will help you learn about a lot of different traits that the Goldendoodle may have, including their size. This does work on other breeds as well. This is a scientific method that can be pretty accurate, though you may see that the dog is smaller or bigger than what the test says because it is hard to get an accurate guess on this. However, to do this test, you just order a testing kit, send in the cheek swab, and then wait for the results. It should not take too long and can help you get a good idea about the genetics of the dog. They are friendly, loyal, and intelligent, which helps them become one of the best companions around for the whole family to enjoy, no matter how many people are in the family. Estimating the weight and height of this dog is not always possible, but it does provide you with a good way to figure out if you will have a dog who is bigger or smaller than average. By following some of the simple tips above, you will be able to get a good idea of the size of your new family pet. For instance, a Standard Goldendoodle puppy will, on average, grow at about the same rate as other medium to large dogs like the German Shepherd and Collie. A Medium Goldendoodle may take a couple of more months to reach most of his adult size. A Standard Goldendoodle is a large-size dog and typically takes just over a year to become fully grown. From birth until the gotchya day, puppies have fluctuated back and forth in terms of who weighs the most. Even though adult weight is a bit of a guess for a young puppy, expect mini goldendoodles to weigh 4lbs-9lbs at 8 weeks of age. A medium puppy and standard puppy may both weigh 9lbs at 8 weeks old, but the standard puppy with gain weight at a quicker rate than the medium. Like most dog breeds, goldendoodles generally do the majority of their growing in the first six months of life. In fact, many mini goldendoodle puppies reach half of their adult weight by four months. Standard goldendoodles may take a month or so longer to reach that halfway mark. The larger the dog, the longer growing takes. For mini goldendoodles, expect the weight to start leveling off between months of age. Standard goldendoodles, like other large dog breeds, will grow for a longer period of time. While this rule may work for many standards, it is not accurate with smaller-sized goldendoodles who finish growing at a younger age. When will my goldendoodle stop growing? Dogs can finish growing anywhere between years of age, but generally reach their maximum height by a year of age and spend the remaining months filling out. This means your dog might hit a growth spurt right after her first birthday — she might not get any taller but she could thicken up. Download Article There are several other dog breeds that have similarities in appearance to a Pug. However, if you are aware of the differences between the breeds, you can obtain a better understanding of whether or not a dog is a Pug. All rights reserved. This image may not be used by other entities without the express written consent of wikiHow, Inc. A Pekingese can seem exactly like a Pug, especially if it has a short coat. Most Pekingese, however, have quite long fur. Both breeds have wrinkles and flat muzzles, but a Pekingese's tail won't be curled like a Pug's - instead, it hangs over the dog's back. Pekingese can also come in different coat colors than Pugs, though both can be seen in fawn and black. Despite having longer fur, Pekingese don't shed as much as Pugs, but still a moderate amount. French Bulldogs are another popular breed with wrinkles and a flat muzzle. They are slightly bigger than Pugs and therefore not a member of the toy group and have short, stubby tails. Their ears are perked, rather than the pug's folded ears. A solid black or tan and black Frenchie may have white markings on the chest or stomach, differentiating it from a Pug. Two stubborn, flat-faced breeds, Pugs and English Bulldogs have a lot in common. For example, both have faces coated with wrinkles. However, Bulldogs have short, stumpy tails, while pugs have longer, curled tails. Bulldogs can come in many more color varieties, such as brown or brown with white markings. Pugs are smaller than Bulldogs, as Bulldogs are members of the non-sporting group. Bulldogs also have different ears than Pugs. These two breeds are roughly equal in size and body structure. However, Boston Terriers usually have perked up ears and stubby tails, and they tend to be black and white, while black Pugs aren't seen with white markings. They also have completely different origins - Boston terriers originate in the United States, while Pugs date back to Ancient China. Boxers are medium-sized dogs and larger than Pugs, but the two both tend to have flat, black muzzles. A Boxer can have either cropped or uncropped ears, along with a natural or docked tail. A Boxer's natural tail is longer than a pug's and isn't curled, while the docked tail is very short. Boxers are usually brown or black in color, but also are seen in white, brindle, and more color variants. Pugs aren't typically seen in a brown coat. Pugs and Bullmastiffs may look a little similar in appearance, but Bullmastiffs are much larger dogs. Pugs are small dogs generally lap dogs , while Bullmastiffs are large dogs sometimes used for guarding. Bullmastiffs have long tails that don't curl over their backs. Both dogs have wrinkles, but Bullmastiffs have usually larger muzzles. Chinese origins[ edit ] Pugs were brought from China to Europe in the sixteenth century. The pet pugs were highly valued by Chinese Emperors, and the royal dogs were kept in luxury and guarded by soldiers. In Tibet , Buddhist monks kept pugs as pets in their monasteries. Pugs were painted by Goya in Spain, and in Italy they rode up front on private carriages, dressed in jackets and pantaloons that matched those of the coachman. They were used by the military to track animals and people, and were also employed as guard dogs. His self-portrait , which is now in London's Tate Gallery , includes his pug, Trump. Every carriage I meet here has a Pug in it. Many responded to the breed's image of anti-functionalism and diminutive size during this period. The modern pug's appearance probably changed after when a new wave of pugs were imported directly from China. These pugs had shorter legs and the modern-style pug nose. The British aristocrat Lady Brassey is credited with making black pugs fashionable after she brought some back from China in .Hogarth's painting from the 18th century depicts the originally longer muzzle, as well as the picture in a edition of Brehms Tierleben. Since there has been a trend in some countries to breed "retro pugs". Following the deaths of pugs and other brachycephalic breeds, several airlines either banned their transport in cargo or enacted seasonal restrictions. Pugs have elongated palates. When excited, they are prone to " reverse sneezing " which causes them to quickly and seemingly laboriously gasp and snort. The veterinary name for this is pharyngeal gag reflex and it is caused by fluid or debris getting caught under the palate and irritating the throat or limiting breathing. Reverse sneezing episodes are usually not harmful, and massaging the dog's throat or covering its nose in order to make it breathe through its mouth can often shorten a sneezing fit. In serious cases, it makes breathing even more difficult and puts added pressure on the larynx. If this happens, one should inquire with their veterinarian whether or not surgery is needed to open the nostrils. If the prolapse happens on a regular basis, the pug might require surgery. This condition is caused when parasitic mites, that are often present in a dog's skin without causing symptoms, are allowed to do damage because their host has a weakened immune system. It is a problem for many young pugs, although not usually a major one, and is easily treatable, but some are especially susceptible and present with a systemic form of the condition. The condition occurs when two parts of a spinal vertebra do not fuse properly while a young pug is still growing, resulting in an irregularly shaped spinal cavity which can put pressure on the spinal cord. Pug photo, ca .Note its small head and long legs. A pug by Carl Reichert. The pug that was predominantly featured in the commercials was Cheeka. A few other adverts also appeared in the following months, inspired by the idea of a dog following a boy. But one pug with features that are a little different has captured attention online. Nola, who is almost a year old, lives in the Netherlands with owners Gerjanne and Elieke Bijker. She is a "retro pug. Which makes her 75 percent pug and 25 percent beagle," Nola's owner Bijker told Newsweek. This way pugs can go back to their original and healthy state. Part pug, part beagle, she has been praised for being much closer in appearance to the original pug breed. As breeds increase in popularity, so too do health issues. Bill Lambert, a spokesperson for The Kennel Club told Newsweek: "Breeding dogs with overly flat faces can contribute to serious health complications—but sadly it is something that has developed in some examples of these and other flat-faced breeds over the years, often driven by profit, fashion and celebrity influence, because it is perceived to look cute. Nola the retro pug is closer to the original breed's look, before increasingly flat faces were bred through generations. On TikTok , more than 5 million people were amazed at her look and praised her owners for advocating for the healthy breeding. But you can also call Nola a puggle," said Bijker. With pugs it's also common to cut off their tails, but Nola still has her curly tail. Are they healthier than purebred Pugs? Some breeds, ones that never want to go for a run or fetch a ball, have this trait because they are physically unable to keep up with their canine cousins. One of the traits that sedentary pups have in common is often a flat face. History and Original Purpose The original Pug was a small dog with a substantial muzzle. But they have been selectively bred over the last century to achieve the flat-faced look they have now. Show guidelines for the breed suggest a flatter face being desirable, and this has really got out of control. The Jack Russell was designed for fitness and exercise, as expert ratters. They became family pets in more recent years due to their loving and loyal personalities, but have always been first and foremost a working farm dog. Retro Pug Appearance As a mixed breed, the appearance of the retro Pug can be quite unpredictable. Hybrid dogs can inherit any mixture of qualities from their parent breeds, which is part of the huge debate over mixed breeds vs pure breeds. You can read more about that debate here. Size The retro Pug will be a small mixed breed, as both of its parent breeds are similar sizes. Jack Russell Terriers will grow to between 10 and 15 inches tall. They will weigh between 13 and 17 pounds as a healthy adult. Pugs, on the other hand, are slightly smaller. They will grow between 9 and 12 inches tall, weighing 14 to 18 pounds as an adult. A mix of these two breeds will fall somewhere in the middle of these statistics. But, it is going to be a small breed. Face Shape Some retro Pugs will have flatter faces than others. This means, they can still suffer from the same health problems that brachycephaly causes. Not only does the mixed breed try to combat the short snout, it also tries to tackle the shallow eye sockets of brachycephalic dogs. Coat and Colors The best way to predict the color of your mixed breed is to take a look at its parents. Black and fawn are the main colors of the Pug breed. Whereas, the Jack Russell Terrier is mostly white, with black, brown, or tan markings. The amount of markings will vary from one Jack Russell to another. Pugs have a short, glossy coat. But Jack Russells have dense, double coats that are either smooth, broken, or rough. Take a look at the parents to predict what type of coat your Jack Russell Pug mix will inherit. Retro Pug Temperament This breed has a loving temperament. They are friendly with both children and adults, and generally fit in well in most homes. Their small size certainly helps! As well as being social, Pugs are also affectionate and loyal dogs that form strong bonds with their families. They are an intelligent breed that often responds well to training. They can also be quite brave and loud. Jack Russell Terriers are fearless, confident, and loyal dogs. They are active, but also often quite vocal! This breed has a lot of energy to burn each day. Not getting enough exercise can result in unwanted behaviors, such as destructive tendencies. Training and Exercising your Retro Pug Both parent breeds are intelligent dogs, so they are likely to enjoy training, and learn quickly. They will respond best to positive reinforcement training. The Jack Russell parent breed needs a lot of exercise. This is partly to reduce destructive tendencies that result from boredom. But, they also need it to keep healthy. Pugs also enjoy exercise, and need it to stay healthy. But, unfortunately, their facial structure makes it difficult. Brachycephalic breeds tend to overheat more easily than other breeds. Plus, their flat faces makes it harder for them to breathe normally, as their oxygen flow is restricted. This difficulty breathing also makes swimming quite a dangerous form of exercise. So, take care of your mix when exercising it. Some retro Pugs will have flatter faces than others. Special Care Many people believe that mixed breed dogs are healthier than purebred dogs, thanks to increased genetic diversity. However, mixed breeds can still be prone to the health conditions of their parent breeds. Responsible breeders will health test dogs they are planning to breed from to minimise the risk of passing these issues on. Pug Health The main health problem that Pugs suffer from is due to their facial structure. This breed is brachycephalic. Because of this they suffer from: Overheating. Life Span Did You Know? The Pug, or Pug Dog, is famous for its flat-faced appearance and large, soulful eyes. They are an ancient dog breed that originated in China over 2, years ago. As with any dog breed, the Pug has some health conditions to be aware of. In particular, corneal ulcers and dry eye are some potential eye problems that can occur. Additionally, Pugs can be susceptible to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and encephalitis. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see health clearances can help allay concerns for some of these health issues. Pugs are also big foodies. They love to eat! Their love for food means this dog breed is prone to obesity. As a brachycephalic dog, their large head and short snout often cause respiratory problems, which can limit their exercise at times and contribute to weight gain. This will cause them to quickly gasp and snort, which can sound relatively alarming. These episodes are usually not harmful as your Pug is just clearing their palate and throat. The Pug tends to be easy to train and is a good fit for owners of any experience level. They are eager to please their owners and tend to pick up on commands quickly. They are sensitive souls and their feelings can be hurt easily, so they will not respond well to harsh corrections. This dog breed responds best to consistent training that focuses on positive rewards and will benefit from participation in puppy training classes. Pugs have a smooth, glossy, and short coat. Their fur is fine and soft. Although their coat is generally low-maintenance, it will shed throughout the year. Aside from brushing, Pugs only need occasional baths on an as-needed basis. Because Pugs have ears that drop down, they can be susceptible to moisture, dirt, or debris. Checking their ears regularly and cleaning as needed helps to keep them healthy and comfortable. The same goes for their iconic face wrinkles. Daily brushing is ideal, but if your Pug is not allowing you to do that, a few times a week should be sufficient. Getting your Pug used to these grooming tasks as a puppy will help make it a positive bonding experience and a much easier process throughout their life. This dog breed has a low to moderate energy level. Generally, daily walks and some play sessions are enough exercise for this dog breed. They may have short bursts of energy as they have a very playful nature, but they will tire easily. Some Pugs can handle a little more activity and even compete in some dogs sports like agility, rally, and obedience. Make sure you check with your vet first before jumping into dog sports with your dog. A full-grown Pug will usually stand 10 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 14 and 18 pounds. This dog breed generally lives for years. The Pug was a popular pet of the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. Featured Pug Article.
Whipoodles are also called Whippadoodle I know, crazy! There are three kinds of poodles; miniature, standard, and toy poodle. Whipoodles can inherit an array of multi-colours or be just black. Many people love the whippet poodle mix because they are hypoallergenic, meaning there are friendly to dog-allergic individuals due to their minimal shedding. Whipoodles usually inherit their traits and features from both parents. Therefore, you can expect a highly energetic, playful, fun, and medium-sized dog. Temperament And Characteristics Of A Whipoodle Whippet poodle mixes have a mixture of whippets and poodles temperament and personality. Whippets can be gentle and relaxed while in the house and are commonly known as lazy dogs. In the field, whippets are usually active, playful, energetic, and full of life. Whippets enjoy sprinting and playing with their owners while outside. They have a high prey drive, so they may chase after small animals whenever they get the chance. They tend to develop separation anxiety and be destructive when bored and alone. On the other hand, poodles are extremely intelligent, alert, loyal, full of energy, and also predacious like whippets. Therefore, Whipoodles are very intelligent, sweet-natured, agile, and playful. Lack of exercise can make your Whipoodle rebellious or disobedient. Therefore, anyone planning to own this dog breed should be prepared to take their dog for regular walks, short runs, and be there whenever they need them. As a whole, the whippet poodle crosses temperament is even, they are loving, affectionate, and great family pets. As mentioned, Poodles can be standard, toy, or miniature. Whippets bred with standard poodles can have slightly bigger bodies than those mixed with toy poodles because standard poodles are bigger than toy poodles. Standard poodles usually weigh about 35kgs and a 38cm height, while toy poodles are usually 6kgs and stand about cm tall. Usually, whipoodles are a bit bigger than purebred whippets. An average whipoodle weighs about pounds with an inches height. They can also have a long snout because both whippets and poodles have that feature too. Their coats are a bit wavy or curly like their poodle parents. Sometimes, Whipoodles can have other colours shade on their paws, faces, and chests. Most whipoodles are black with brown and white spots. The secondary colour usually appears on the chests, paws, and chest area. However, sometimes Whipoodles can have a different colour from those of their parents due to recessive genes. Another base colour for whippets is cream. Most Whipoodles with this base colour usually have other brown streaks or black secondary colour on their chests, paws, and face. In most cases, the poodle parent usually determines a whippet poodle mix colour because they come in multiple shades. Whipoodles Health All dogs are likely to suffer from various genetic diseases common to their breed. For example, whippets are more likely to suffer from allergies, sinus problems, ear and eye problems, MVD, and hemangiosarcoma. Poodles are susceptible to bloat, epilepsy, hip dysplasia, thyroid problems, and hypoadrenocorticism. Healthy and well-taken care of whipoodles should live for approximately years. Therefore, your Whipoodle will require proper training and adequate exercise to burn off the excess energy and stay fit. A healthy Whipoodle requires at least 60 minutes of exercise every day. Once in a while, you can release your Whipoodle on an open field to run and play with other canines. Whipoodles are extremely intelligent because of their poodle parents. Hence, they require adequate mental stimulation every day. You can achieve this through lots of fun games and bonding. Some of the engaging and exciting dog games you can play are tug-of-war and hide and seek. Failure to exercise and stimulate your whipoodle can cause him to be mischievous and unadjusted. Whippets are low shedders, and poodles shed even less than whippets. Therefore, Whipoodles shed very little. That being said, whipoodles do require grooming than whippets because of their shaggy coats. They usually require grooming times a week to keep their coat maintained, so get your grooming kit ready! Training A Whippet Poodle Mix Training Whippodles is relatively easy because of their high intelligent level, loyalty, and willingness to please their owners. Whipoodles are very relaxed, well-adjusted, easy to train, and mentally stable when they get enough exercise. All canines require proper socialisation to live comfortably and freely with people and other pets. One way to socialise your pooch is by taking him to parks and doggy daycares where they can interact with other people and dogs. They have unique characteristics and features that can easily distinguish them from poodles and whippets even just in a glance. Some of the common differences between a whippet poodle mix and a purebred whippet include; The Size Difference Whipoodles are a bit bigger than purebred whippets. An average whippet poodle mix weighs about pounds with an inches height. Breeding a standard poodle with a normal-sized purebred whippet usually produces larger Whipoodles. Most whippets come in white, fawn, blue, tan, and black colours. Whippadoodles can have more than these colours by inheriting other beautiful colours from their poodle parent. Most Whipoodles have black coats with a white or brown mixture on their paws, face, and chest area. They can have about colours in combination. Some of the beautiful shades Whipoodles can inherit from their poodle parent are cream, apricot, white, and more. Whipoodles are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a fun, loving, and medium-sized dog. They are also a great choice for anyone with allergies as they barely shed their coat. However, they need frequent grooming, especially those with bright-coloured coats. Whipoodles require plenty of exercise to keep them well-adjusted and healthy. Due to their high intelligence, training Whipoos is usually easy and fun. Other Popular Posts. Additionally, it is important not to overfeed your pup as he may already be predisposed to arthritis caused by hip dysplasia. Because both parent breeds are at risk of developing bloat or gastric dilatation-volvulus GDV , never free-feed your Whipodle or give them one big meal per day. A pup with too much pent-up energy and no outlet can become destructive. You can break up this hour of exercise into two minute sessions if that fits your schedule better. In addition, Whipoodles are intelligent dogs that need plenty of mental stimulation to stay enriched and happy. Provide opportunities for brain games daily. Poodles are among the smartest dog breeds, so training should be a breeze if your pup takes after his Poodle side. They learn quickly, often picking up new commands in fewer than five repetitions. Whippets are smart dogs, though it can take between 25 and 40 repetitions before they understand new commands. Their fur can be wavy or tightly curled like their Poodle parent, requiring daily brushing to keep hair mats away. Bathing should be done on an as-needed basis. However, it may be at risk of developing health conditions common to its parent breeds. Whippets may be prone to mitral valve disease, gastric dilation-volvulus, lacerations due to their short and thin coats, and inherited deafness. Minor Conditions. As a curly haired breed, the Poodle may pass this characteristic fully on to the Whipoodle. However, more often than not Whippet Poodle mixes have a slightly curly or a wavy coat. Commonly Whippet Poodle coats will have 2 to 3 colours, but the colouration can vary enormously depending upon the parents or recessive genes. Whippet Poodle Mix Temperament At home Whippets are generally calm and gentle dogs and they have a reputation as lazy since a well exercised Whippet will be happy sleeping on the couch for most of the day. At play, Whippets have bundles of energy and love nothing more than sprinting with other dogs or chasing a ball. Don't Miss My Latest Posts! Join over others who've subscribed to my newsletter! Final Thoughts What is a Whipoodle? A Whipoodle, in simple words, is a dog breed resulting from breeding a Whippet and a Poodle. They are also called Whipoos or Whipadoodles. Most Whipoodles are bred from standard Poodles, which makes them a medium to large-sized Doodle breed. They are descendants of Greyhounds, which is why Whippets nowadays closely resemble small Greyhounds. However, unlike the Whippet, a Greyhound is more of a racing or hunting dog. On the other hand, the standard Poodle is a medium-sized water dog. They are very intelligent and love to stay active with their owners. It helps to learn more about the Whippet-Poodle mix by looking at the history of both parent breeds. History of the Parent Breeds Whipoodles are a new and unique Doodle breed. Their origin may have happened on accident, or possibly a breeder decided to mix a Poodle with a Whippet deliberately. We do know quite a lot about the parent breeds. Learning about their history gives us a better understanding of the traits and characteristics of the Whipoodle. Whippets Painted portrait of a Whippet. For centuries, many small Sighthounds have been seen in oil paintings, either playing with other dogs or walking with a human. Every century has its own definition of the Whippets. But in the 19th century, Whippets were described as a cross between a Greyhound and a Spaniel. Glancing at history, many dogs looked like Whippets hundreds of years ago. Solid evidence of Whippets goes back to the 17th century when they were eventually given the name. In the mids, the pure breed concept first emerged, and in , the first dog show was held, which gave birth to the American Kennel Club in , and the most famous dog show that is now held every year. After the 19th century, Whippets were recognized as a mix of terriers and small English Greyhounds. However, the initial appearance was not sleek. So, Italian Greyhounds were introduced for breeding, making the Whippets look better. The history states that Whippets were brought to America by English mill operatives in Massachusetts. In Victorian England, coal miners used to take their dogs for racing competitions and rabbit hunting expeditions in their off time. So the idea of creating a smaller Greyhound breed came. There is no detailed and documented evidence about which specific breed was behind the Whippet that resulted from the need to create a smaller dog. Nevertheless, as the coal miners shifted their work, the breed followed them and came to New England and America. While these dogs became popular in the 19th century, they began their rise to popularity in the 18th century. At first, these dogs were used to catching any prey in sight, and their speed and agility enabled them to catch prey relatively easily. Whippet standing in the field. At the end of the 18th and the start of the 19th centuries, small Whippet-like dogs were typical among those who could not afford a Greyhound. The rabbit skin was also used in lure coursing, and the racing Whippets gained nationwide popularity. In , Whippets were the official breed of the American Kennel Club. Whippets have historically been great dogs for watchkeeping. While cheerful and playful, they might hesitate to meet a new person. So, avoid directly petting them. Instead, gently approach them and see their reaction. Hunters used these dogs to retrieve game from the water. Their iconic continental clip is not just for looks. It was used to keep their bodies warm while they plunged into the cold waters of European rivers and lakes to retrieve game. The standard Poodle became popular all across Europe. They were even used as circus performers in some regions. Their intelligence, good looks, and overall demeanor made them the favorite of the French nobles. Eventually, France adopted the Poodle as their national dog. The standard Poodle was bred down in size to create the Miniature Poodle. After Poodles were introduced to America, they were bred down even further to make the Toy Poodle. Poodles of all sizes are a popular dog breed today. If you want to learn more about this beautiful breed, check out my in-depth guide to standard Poodles. Appearance A Whipoodle features a long, sleek body with lots of fur. On average, this dog is moderately sized but can often get noticeably large or small, depending on different factors. Ultimately, their parents will have the most profound effect on their appearance. This will depend on which breed was used as the father or mother. A Whippet looks like a Greyhound with long and slender legs. In fact, at first sight, people often mistake it for a Greyhound, but Whippets are relatively peaceful and friendly. Their entire bodies are lean and muscular, with an abdomen neatly tucked up. They have a fairly long tail but usually keep it low and have big, lustrous eyes. Unlike Whippets, Poodles have lots of hair across their bodies. Among other peculiar features are a square outline, a straight back, and an elegant long neck. Like many other dogs, they have floppy ears. They shed little to no hair, which is why they are popular with people allergic to animal hair. You can groom or wash them once a week to keep them clean. However, make sure not to wear a coat or jacket when petting them, as they shed hair quickly, and getting that out of certain clothes can be a hassle. Poodles have curled hair and a single dense coat. Most Whipoodles have black, brown, and white spots on their faces, but some can have other colors on their paws, faces, and chest. Based on the standard colors of the Whippet and the Poodle, below are the possible coat colors your Whipoodle may have: Black.
golden retriever puppies panama city florida - Three to four times a day 4 — 5 months 6 months and above Two times a day Pregnant or breastfeeding French Bulldogs may eat up to three times a day within eight hours. Meanwhile, puppies require more frequent feedings than adult dogs due to their rapid metabolism. In general, a French Bulldog puppy should be fed three times daily between two and six months. Once the French Bulldog puppy reaches the age of six months, the feeding frequency can be reduced to two meals each day. As developing puppies, your Frenchie requires a consistent daily feeding plan. The feeding plan should incorporate at least three measured meals per day. Its dinner schedule is vital, as it allows ample time to digest the food and go pee or potty before bedtime. Between 14 and 18 weeks, you can begin accustoming your French Bulldog puppy to two meals each day. If your veterinarian advises you to keep your French Bulldog on a three-meals-a-day diet, this must be properly followed. Senior dogs can be fed on the same schedule when given three meals a day. Since elderly dogs do not move as much, they may develop too much weight. Consequently, you should ensure that the food contains fewer calories, more fiber, and an appropriate balance of fat and protein. Your veterinarian should have a recommended amount of treats you should give your dog. Again, it will vary according to its weight and level of activity. If you must frequently use treats for training, use tiny bits or give them a licking mat. Best Dog Foods for French Bulldog A feeding guide for Frenchie dog lovers would be incomplete without the information on the best dog food for their furry companion. There are numerous food options available for French Bulldogs. The best pet food varies from one Frenchie to another. Perhaps your French Bulldog is a fussy eater or suffers from food allergies. It is feasible to provide a balanced diet for your French Bulldogs if you use the best store-bought or homemade dog food that contains all the nutrition needed by your dog and as prescribed by your veterinarian. The list below shows the best dog food options you can provide your French Bulldog: Dry Food: Dry dog food is commercially available kibble. This can be an excellent alternative for French Bulldogs with sensitive stomachs. French Bulldog puppies require high-quality dry food that is high in animal protein to aid in growth and muscular development. Wet Food: Wet food is contained in a can; it is primarily composed of water and is considered highly mushy food. However, wet food expires more quickly than dry food, making it the least practical alternative. Home-Cooked Diet: A home-cooked, protein-rich diet like a chicken meal is excellent for French Bulldogs. Unlike ordinary kibble, it contains no additives or preservatives. It supports healthy digestion and may help avoid various problems related to a bad diet, including obesity, dry skin and coat, pancreatitis, diabetes, and a low immune system. French Bulldogs are prone to developing a variety of joint and back issues. Along with other joint problems, they may develop luxating patella or hip dysplasia. Both glucosamine and chondroitin are critical components of a high-quality French Bulldog dog diet. These essential vitamins assist your French in developing the connective tissue necessary for healthy joints and spine support. Omega-3 fatty acids can assist your Frenchie to keep muscle mass and strength by reducing inflammation and soreness. Also, this can promote healthy skin by preventing itchy and flaky skin. Whether wet and dry food, raw food, or a homemade diet, each dog food offers several benefits and drawbacks. Consult a veterinarian before deciding to know exactly what food option suits your Frenchie. Any French Bulldog owner will attest that vomiting is far more common in this breed than in other dogs. While it cannot be totally prevented, you should know what human foods are toxic to French Bulldogs. Some of the foods to avoid are not only bad for Frenchie; many of them can be fatal. They may result in poisoning and, in the worst-case scenario, death. This section enumerates some of the most dangerous foods for French Bulldogs. I will discuss why these foods are poisonous and when you should contact a veterinarian. The first and most prevalent is chocolate. It contains a toxin called theobromine , which can cause a variety of health problems when consumed in large amounts. This can cause irregular heartbeats, seizures, and sudden death. Garlic and onions should also never be included in the diet of your Frenchie puppy or adult dog. Even a trace of these vegetables can result in anemia and red blood cell failure in your pup. Poisoning symptoms include lethargy, fatigue, vomiting, rapid breathing, and an increased heart rate. However, remember that you may not immediately notice poisoning symptoms because the toxic consequences may take a few days to manifest. Additionally, grapes are one of the most toxic foods for your Frenchie. A dog that has consumed grapes may exhibit stomach bloating and diarrhea. They need to be taken to a veterinarian immediately. In severe cases, gastric lavage is the best course of action. Candy, artificial sweeteners, corn on the cob, roasted bones, avocado, raisins, almonds, cherry, peach, plum, coconut oil, mustard seeds, alcohol, coffee, blue cheese, and tomatoes are also regarded to be unsafe for French Bulldogs. Furthermore, there are certain foods that you should avoid giving your Pitbull owing to the negative side effects they may cause. While they are not considered dangerous, they can cause nausea, diarrhea, and weight gain. Numerous dogs wind up at veterinarian clinics due to improper food intake. While prevention is always the best course of action, it is critical to understand emergency care and medication expenses. Read our article on French Bulldog costs to learn more about the medical expenditures associated with a French Bulldog. These adjustments should ideally take place over 5 to 7 days. Consult a veterinarian in this scenario, especially if you intend to switch to a raw or homemade diet. Feeding an Overweight French Bulldog French Bulldogs can quickly gain weight, resulting in various health problems. Thus, dog owners need to notice when their Frenchie gets overweight to assist the dog in maintaining a healthy weight and living a healthy life. Average adult French Bulldogs should have a body weight between 19 and 29 pounds for males, while 18 to 28 pounds for females. The most common indications that your Frenchie is overweight include lack of muscle definition and difficulty breathing during brief exercises. In terms of visual indicators, a Frenchie within their healthy weight will have a thin layer of fat covering their ribs. Meanwhile, those with excess fat have noticeable deposits in the chest and stomach area. Also, you should be able to see and feel their spine as they bend and curl into a sleeping position. Furthermore, Frenchies have an hourglass form, with a visible waistline that is smaller than their chest when they are not overweight. Regardless of these symptoms, it is always advisable to seek confirmation from a professional veterinarian. Feeding an obese Frenchie means maintaining a consistent food plan throughout the day to aid in weight loss. Additionally, this stops your dog from eating more than it requires. Apart from planned feeding times, serving the correct meal proportions is essential. If your Frenchie is overweight, owners should focus on how much food is offered to them. Reducing their daily kibble intake by half a cup can help them significantly reduce weight. Moreover, you should offer them foods with fewer calories, more fiber, and more protein. As a result, your Frenchie will burn more calories and lose weight more quickly. It is preferable to give your dog treats that contain only one ingredient, are low in calories, and contain no added sugar, such as sweet potato and blueberry bites. Alternatively, you can treat your dog with items that are already in your refrigerator, such as tiny portions of sweet potatoes, apples, and bananas. Regularly weigh your dog, monitor how many calories they intake, and establish a target body weight for them. Also, pain can make a Frenchie nervous and unable to eat, so keep an eye out for evident signs of injury. Another common reason for your French Bulldog not to eat is discomfort in the mouth caused by dental issues. Furthermore, gastrointestinal conditions, certain medicines, vaccination, overfeeding, or other serious health problems can cause a French Bulldog not to eat. As a result, you must keep an eye on your Frenchie and contact your veterinarian if the condition persists for weeks. Do French Bulldogs Eat a Lot? French Bulldogs are opportunistic feeders by nature. Thus, they will continue to eat as long as you provide pet food. They may begin to require more than is necessary to fulfill their appetite due to this behavior. Also, when a French Bulldog is agitated, it may begin to overeat. The most effective strategy to combat stress-related overeating is to thrive in a calm environment. At times, your dog may become bored and eat more than usual to keep itself occupied somehow. Thus, you must keep a watch on any of these factors. Can French Bulldogs Eat Bones? Dogs should not consume cooked bones of any kind. The bones may splinter, resulting in deadly shards that might cause injury due to choking hazards. Thus, if you wish to offer your Frenchie a bone, vets recommend raw meat bones, preferably from farm-raised chicken. These are best given after a meal to prevent them from eating too much. Remove it after around ten minutes and store it in the refrigerator to keep it fresh for tomorrow. To avoid bacterial contamination, it is recommended to discard it after a few days and keep it separate from other raw meat and food. Can French Bulldogs Be Vegetarians? Each Frenchie is one-of-a-kind. Simply because your French Bulldog likes veggies does not mean it can go full-on vegetarian. Also, bear in mind that many veggies are dangerous and toxic to your French Bulldog. Certain vegetables are acceptable to be fed to a French Bulldog, but only in small portions. Final Thoughts French Bulldogs are, without a doubt, playful, intelligent, and compassionate dogs. On the other hand, Frenchies are greedy eaters, and food serves as their primary motivator. Thus, a critical component of owning this breed is understanding how much, how frequently, and what food to feed a French Bulldog. You can supply dry food, wet food, raw food diets, or a homemade diet for your pet. Since Frenchie pups and adults may have food sensitivities, providing or making the best dog food for their age and nutritional requirements is critical. By doing so, you can help your Frenchie prevent undesirable health problems. This can help guarantee that your Frenchie receives the safest and healthiest diet as much as possible. Because of this, your puppy may be a little stubborn about eating dry and wet food if they were only just recently weaned. Here is where the math gets a little more detailed, but not too complicated. When they are between 8 to 12 weeks old, the puppy should be fed about 1. This food should be high in calories since they need extra nutrients that they are no longer getting from their mother. This kind of follows the main rule when it comes to spreading out the meals to 3 times a day. But for younger pups, many owners will split the 1. Because feeding them 0. Also, if you are wondering how much they should be fed once they start hitting their senior years, they should be fed a little less as long only if they are not as active. Raw food vs. Many dog lovers say that there are too many preservatives, fillers, wheat, corn, and protein in dry and wet food. While the raw food diet can be more natural, especially if it is organic, you also have to make sure your pup would be getting more foods with vitamins and minerals mixed in with the raw food that your pup would need. Raw food diets can be more expensive, require more storage room for the meats and veggies, and take longer to prepare. However, you would be personally ensuring that your little French bulldog pup is getting their full daily nutrition without harmful by-products and additives. Is there a good dry food diet? Possibly the biggest questions out of all of them: is there any good dry dog food out there and how do I find them? The answer is yes, there can be some healthy dry dog food products, but it takes some time to look for. The key is to look for dog food that does not contain any preservatives, fillers, wheat, corn, and too much protein. Fillers basically do not provide any nutritional value and can even harm your dog since most of the ingredients they use as fillers are common allergies for dogs that can cause skin conditions, bowel issues, and more. Wheat and corn are included since they are also a popular allergen for dogs. Too much protein is even more dangerous for them since it can put more pressure on the organs, throw off nutritional balance, increase the likelihood of diabetes, and can harm dogs that already have diabetes. These are all-life-stages products so there is no need to start with a puppy chow and then transition over to an adult chow. However, if you would like to use another high-quality chow, the transition should be made gradually so as not to upset your puppies digestive system which could cause loose stool or diarrhea. For an adult chow, you can get by with a percentage or two less on the protein and fat content, but unless you have a weight problem with your dog, generally the higher the protein and fat content the better. However, we love the grain free chows form PawTree which use sweet potato. All of the various meats are good, although if you have a very food sensitive Frenchie, turkey or duck are generally better than chicken, and fish can sometimes cause issues. If you are feeding your Frenchie a high quality chow, you can probably get by without special supplements. Our Frenchies love them like they are treats. NuVet has made a noticeable improvement in our kennel, especially with our pregnant and whelping females. We were told about this supplement by a breeder friend of ours who obtained fantastic results in her kennel by using this supplement every day with each of her dogs. She said she solved several problems from skin rashes to low milk production in mothers, along with several other nagging health issues when she started giving each dog in her kennel one of these supplements daily. When you use the number provided you can purchase these supplements at a significantly discounted rate versus the retail cost. Have More Questions?
