Introduce your pup to new people and pets early, and take them to outdoor pet-friendly restaurants and pet-friendly stores so they learn what is expected from them at a young age. To keep your Beago engaged and wanting to learn more, you will need to make training exciting and fun to keep their desire to learn what you are teaching ongoing. Remember, they live to please you, their owner. Grooming and Care of the Golden Retriever Beago The grooming of your Beago will depend on which parental breed it takes after the most. However, they will require more maintenance if they resemble the Golden Retriever parent with a longer coat. Beagles only need to be brushed about once a week, while Goldens require a minimum of every other day. It is wise to start nail care early on. If you do not like using nail clippers on your pet, try introducing them to a Dremel early on. A Dremel is less traumatic to your pet than nail clippers. To properly introduce your pup to the Dremel, just touch it to their paws. If they are ok with that, praise them and treat them. Next, follow this by rubbing the Dremel against their nails, still with the Dremel off. Again, praise and treat. Let your pet smell it while you are praising and treating them. They will associate the Dremel as being good and them getting treats. Next, offer peanut butter on a toy sometimes this is best done with two people , then turn the Dremel on. Let them get used to the noise and then rub it against their nails. Next thing you know, you will be filing down their nails like a pro — all the while, your Beago loves it because you are praising and treating, and they love to make you happy! You will want to trim their nails before they get too long. Long nails become painful for your dog, and they tend to break off. Depending on how the nail breaks, it can create an opening that leads to infection. Plus, using a Dremel on shorter nails is much easier for you and your Beago. You will want to bathe your Beago probably once a month. More if they are super active and get into a lot of dirt or mud. Bathing too frequently leads to dry skin. And always use shampoos made for dogs. Since they have floppy ears, they tend to be prone to yeast infections in their ears. Clean their ears weekly to prevent this. Again, use toothpaste that is meant for dogs. Giving your dog a dental cleaning treat such as Greenies daily is also a good idea; Greenies will keep plaque buildup to a minimum and keep their breath smelling fresh. Lastly, proper feeding is crucial to the health of your Beago. In addition, you can add a bit of canned dog food, cottage cheese, plain Greek yogurt, or some cooked or raw egg to mix into the dry dog food to add some exciting flavor to the kibble to keep your dog happy. You might prefer to feed your dog a raw diet or homemade food, which is fine. You might have to add some supplements to this kind of diet and adjust the amount of food given. Health Issues of the Golden Retriever Beagle Mix One of the main reasons breeders crossbreed dogs is to avoid the health concerns that the parental breeds are susceptible to. Also, if you get your Beago from a breeder, you should ask for the health certificate of the parents so you can be aware if the parents had any of these conditions and alert your vet to the fact. But that said, do not leave toddlers unattended with your Beago. Beagos can be stubborn as puppies, especially when you are training them. They are extremely friendly, so do not depend on them to be a watchdog. While their barking will alert you to strangers, their barking is more of a request to be petted by the stranger than an attempt to scare the visitor away. While the Beago is a high-energy dog, Beagos tend to be calmer than either of their parental breeds. Beagos can have large, almost pleading adorable eyes. You can almost tell what your pet is thinking by looking at their expressive eyebrows. And you swear, when they look at you, they are looking deep into your soul. They will learn very quickly how to melt your heart and get their way — remember they are very smart! Beagos can be nosier than most dogs. However, because they are so easy to train, you can quickly teach them not to bark so much. Just be consistent in your training. Both parental breeds were hunters and retrievers. Beagos have tons of energy because their parents were trained to hunt all day. They are known to be funny and, at times, maybe a little eccentric. The Golden Retriever Beagle Mix is very curious, and this natural curiosity can, at times, get them into trouble. But this curious, adventurous nature makes them perfect for families with children, especially when they live in a nice size fenced-in yard that leads to many opportunities for safe exploration. The Golden Retriever Beagle Mix is a people-person dog. They want to be with family. Do not get this particular breed if you do not plan on bringing them everywhere you go. They want to be with their loved ones, not at home alone. Since this particular crossbreed has very few health problems, it is one of the least costly breeds to own. And since they could live to be seventeen years old, they are a long-term commitment, not to be taken lightly. This dog breed is a loving sweet-natured dog whose main goal in their life is to please their owner, to love and be loved. What better dog could you want for your family? Other Golden Retrievers Mixes. There are the basics that every dog needs such as food, toys, a bed, anti-flea and tick drops, microchips, etc. Visit your vet to talk about regular checkups, vaccinations, and the best diet you can provide for them. These puppies will eventually grow into very energetic dogs. If you have enough time and energy to dedicate to your pup, they can become a loving member of your family. They are a great option for active families and anyone who loves the outdoors. Typically, they will look like a small Golden Retriever with big eyes and floppy ears. Their coat can also be completely golden, or it can be multi-colored like their Beagle parents. This makes the Beago in the top 3. This makes the Beago a very intelligent, alert pup with a sniffer that would rival a BloodHounds. This is a happy and playful pet that makes a great family dog. They are super intelligent with a lot of energy. They also have a lot of spunk, courage, and charisma. This is a pup that is eager to get outside to run, play fetch, or just go for a ride. You will also find this breed is very loyal and protective of their family. Though they are not aggressive in the least, they will stay close when they feel danger is around. They will also give a warning bark when one is warranted. Interestingly, you will find this happy pooch is more likely to bark in excitement than in anger. That being said, this is not a pup who will have issues with anxiety, either. You can also count on this hybrid to be a watchdog. As mentioned, they will give an alert if they are started or something is fishy. Then again, they are very friendly, so a quick pat will have them eating that bark quickly. You should also be aware that they have a very sensitive nose that they will follow into some trouble if not watched carefully. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Although we mentioned it above, this is a very social and friendly pup who will get along with everyone. Another great quality that makes this breed an excellent family companion is their patience. They can take quite a bit of poking, whisker pulling, and tail tugs without becoming annoyed. This makes them a great choice if you have toddlers. Even better, they will also follow the kids around like a worried parent. Single and the Beago If you live alone, Beago is also a good choice. In this case, though, you want to make sure you have a lot of time to spend with them. If you work from home or can bring your furball along with you is best. Though they will not suffer from separation issues, they can become lonely and depressed with the lack of connection to their family. It is interesting to note that the Beago tends to be more protective of single pet-parents than they do in a family setting. They are more apt to be wary of strangers, and they like to stay close at night. Of course, this could be due to the development of a stronger bond when your attention is mostly on them. On the flip side, they are also more likely to become depressed when left alone. As a social animal, they will get along well with other canines whether they be pets or just friends they meet at the local park. You will find your Beago is eager to run up to other dogs to make friends and start a game to chase. They are also rarely aggressive to other canines, jealous of your attention, or have territorial issues with their space or food. That being said, it is with smaller animals where things can get a bit hairy on time. With a strong hunting background, this pup has a fantastic sense of smell and a well-preserved prey drive. Simply put, they use fat for energy to boost protein to strengthen their muscles. That being said, you want to find healthy fats like fish oil or chicken fat. This allows them to be flexible, strong, and able to keep up with their active lifestyle. Gut Health: Many canine experts believe that gut health is a barometer for how everything else is doing in the body. This is why you want to find food that has good levels of fiber, probiotics, and other healthy digestive ingredients. Artificial Ingredients: This is what you want to stay away from. Artificial ingredients like food color and preservatives are unhealthy for your pet and should be avoided. Sugar and Salt: Both of these ingredients can cause serious health issues for your pup including fatal conditions. That being said, they can and should eat a small amount of both. Granted, if you properly socialize your Beago often from an early age, you might be able to avoid such behaviors, but a strong prey drive is inherent in this breed. All that energy is going to need an outlet, so you should expect to spend a good minutes exercising your Beago every day. If you skip this, your Beago could get bored and start displaying destructive behaviors that can be difficult to untrain. Luckily, their Beago offspring also display this affinity for training. Beagles have very short coats that need little upkeep while Golden Retrievers have much longer coats that require a bit more maintenance. If your dog takes after the Beagle side more, then it will probably only need its coat brushed once per week. For Beagos that have more of a Golden Retriever coat, brushing up to three times each week might be necessary. Sometimes, they are depicted as containing wild animals. You can learn how to draw a crate that is full of surprises! Wooden crates have a long history. Containers have long been used for transport. Interestingly, "crates had been used for many years without a clear origin in documented history. Some of the earliest references in print date from the early twentieth century. A number of merchandisers have employed the mystique of crates. The nautical Cargo Hold gift shops at Ripley's Aquariums are decorated with crates. Some crate-shaped toys rock and shake as if something is alive inside. What does your crate contain? Long-lost treasures? A ferocious tiger or an alien creature? The choice is yours. You can create your own adventure. Begin by using six straight lines to outline a hexagon shape. It should be an irregular hexagon, with the top and bottom points being more obtuse than the others. Our left-hand puppy begins with an egg shape, with the small end facing downward. Sketch three lines through it, one cutting off each end and one right through the middle. From the center, draw a line down to the tip of the egg, and then the same distance beyond. I started with the top oval. From the right side, I sketch a line down, approximately four times the height of the oval. Step 2: Draw a face for one puppy, legs and tail for the other! Staying within the egg and starting at the center line, sketch in an upside-down heart shape. The nose is a small triangle at the bottom of the inverted heart. Step 2: Draw a face for one puppy, legs and tail for the other. For our second puppy, draw a box around the oval to provide a framework for the rest of the body. The first three legs all fit within the box. If you recall your elementary-school education in shapes, the framework for the body is a parallelogram. Step 3: Draw a body for one puppy and a head on the other! Draw a large triangle from the top of the oval down to the line for the ear closest to you. A small loop on the bottom is good enough for the other. Sketch an eye right next to the larger ear, and use the oval to guide the rest of the head shape. A sickle or moon shape connecting the bottom left of the parallelogram to the hind leg forms the tail. Where the head meets the body on the right side, draw a line down to the base to start the outside leg. A small hoop next to it is good enough for the back hind leg. Step 4: Legs and a tail for the first puppy, a neck for the second! Our right-hand puppy now needs a neck and collar. All the neck requires is two curved lines to join the two ovals. The collar is formed by two curved lines connecting both sides of the neck. Step 5: Softening the puppy drawings I find sketching easier when I focus on the process rather than the result. For me, that means drawing over my guide lines, rather than erasing as I go along. Step 5: Round out your puppy drawings by softening the bodies. These additions make the legs and shoulder blades facing us a bit more defined. By this stage, your puppy drawing is basically complete! Beagle puppies have soft, floppy ears. A curved line between the front and hind legs gives the puppy a little belly. Curved lines above and below the eyes give the face more definition. Step 6: Complete your puppy drawing by adding details! Many Beagle puppies have tricolor coats. The pattern is easy enough to draw in now that the form is complete. I chose to give the right-hand puppy white socks, a white tail tip, and muzzle. A bit of shading is sufficient to give the puppy a black patch on his back. A curved line from the hind leg to the front leg provides space for the belly. Share your puppy drawings! Keep practicing! One of the greatest challenges for people who consider themselves non-artistic is simply getting started. The next is the fear of judgment. Both to serve as inspiration or to serve as a reference when studying and practicing new subjects. Nevertheless, reference images are important for learning and you should always use them! I dare even say, trace the shapes on top of photos that you found or took, so you can properly understand the shapes and movements of your subject. Again these are for practice purposes only, if you do decide to share these drawings, be sure to give credit to the owners of your references. Or, just keep these practices for yourself, all up to you! And remember, you cannot draw something without looking at it. Always gather some references if it helps you learn to draw any object, person or animal! When drawing a new subject I like to start with very simple shapes. Nothing too complicated, just basic shapes like rectangles, circles, triangles, etc. Like a big loaf of bread from the side. With only one shape, we already have a big part of our Corgi done! You can make your rectangle as rounded as you wish. I always like to give it some roundness right away, to appeal to the cute a fluffy side of Corgis. This is a very small shape to help us figure out where and how the head should be! This is one of the features that make them look so cute. We can barely see the paws, tiny little things underneath the body and fur. Feel free to exaggerate your shapes according to your style and how cartoony you want your drawing to be. Depending on your taste and style, our drawings will look different from one another. This is always a good time to experiment and try different things, so you can figure out how you like your art to look like! Just one thing missing. Try to create two rounded Triangle shapes next to each other on top of the previous box that we did for the Head. We now have the General shape of our Corgi Dog. Well done! With very simple shapes, we already have something that resembles a Corgi. Now we just need to refine our drawing and clean it up. Clean Up the Lines 7- Sketch up the fur and details! This is the perfect time to add personalized details to your dog. You can add a collar or any other kind of accessory! Like a flower crown, a bow on the neck or tail. Let your imagination roam and try out new and different things. Finally, we can also add some more detail to the paws. We only have stubs right now and we can add little toes to them! It all depends on how simple you want your style to be. You can decide to leave them as squared shapes to appeal more to the cuteness of a Corgi or give it more detail. Just have fun! We started with shapes, then a final sketch to lay everything we need down. Now, all we have to do is clean up our lines. On top of your sketch, draw your final lineart. Take all the time you need and relax. This is the best advice I can give you when drawing smooth lines. Relax and let yourself have fun. The most common colors for a corgi are a cream tone or black. Then paint the Details: the Collar, the Eye, the little Medal, keeping everything pretty simple. They also have very characteristic patterns, so remember to add those! You can now draw an adorable Corgi with very simple and easy shapes. Practice makes it perfect and you can only improve by repeating and continuing drawing. So have fun with your Corgis! Try Different Shapes! Be inventive with your shapes! Try different shapes or even play with the proportions. You can exaggerate even more how long the body is. Or draw the head with very big ears. There are lots of options for you to explore and I highly recommend you to experiment with them. This is how we improve as artists and find our own art style, by experimenting, by looking at how other artists express their art. You can look for more photo references or even look for other artists that draw dogs and corgis. This is always a good way to find inspiration of your own and maybe even understand and learn something new. We constantly learn with the world around us and other people. As always, all these are just a stepping stone for your own style and drawings. The goal is to learn with others, so we can improve and do our own thing. And, as always, while having fun with our drawings! Take your time by trying our different shapes for your Corgi drawings. This is what makes drawing fun: experimenting, even if it looks or sounds silly. Again, this is a good time to find more reference photos and practice from them. You can also start with a simple turn-around of a Corgi. This way you have all the main shapes and be prepared to draw any other pose. This is what we do in my Drawing Dogs course! We draw our dogs in different poses and different views. With these bases, you can go and start drawing your dogs in any pose you want. So you can always go back too if you need to check proportions, where each part of the body is located, etc. Even dogs in real life will show different expressions! Happy, sad, nervous or scared. Anything you want. Happy and positive emotions are very open and that will show in the drawings. Big eyes, eyebrows going upwards and a big smiley mouth. These can be more or less exaggerated depending on how happy the character is. Everything comes close with each other. The eyebrows get very close with the eyes and latter can come close to the nose and mouth as well. Having a good understanding of both a dogs expression and people will help you immensely in drawing a cartoon dog. Watch some of your favorite cartoons series or movies. Disney is very well known for their character design and can be a good way to study expressions on animals. It is also a good excuse to spend an evening or two watching some of your favorite movies! You now know how to draw a Corgi. The logic is the same as with Corgis. Get some reference material, study it and find its basic shapes. Every subject becomes easier to draw once we break it down to simple shapes. It is much less scary to draw simple shapes than all the details at once. Just relax and have some fun with dogs! Setting the Proportions Begin by drawing a circle in the center of your page. Draw a horizontal line through the middle of the circle, followed by a vertical one. These will be the placements for the eyes and nose. Lastly, draw a rectangle across the bottom of the circle. The rectangle will become the mouth and nose. Adding Features For step two, draw two egg shaped circles above the rectangle for the eyes. Notice how the tops of the eyes touch the horizontal placement lines. Next, draw an upside down triangle in the middle-top of the rectangle for the nose. Add lines for the cheeks, and a curve near the bottom of the rectangle for the lip. Ears, Hair and Eyebrows For step three, draw two curved triangles on either side of the puppy's head for the ears. These don't need to be perfect. Add two small curves at the top of the face for eyebrows, and a small tuft of hair. Eyes Next, add a pupil, which is the top curve inside the eye. Add the iris, which is the second and lowest curve. The iris should be smaller than the pupil when concerning animals. Add two tiny circles, called the "shines", which indicate where light is hitting the puppy's eye. These shines add to the puppy's cuteness. Shaping For step five, take your pencil and trace around everything you have already done, curving out the cheeks and the ears, giving the puppy a softer look. Nose and whiskers For step six, add small details to the nose. Also, add a few whiskers to the puppy's cheeks. These whiskers aren't like cat whiskers, though; dogs have very short whiskers. Don't worry about these too much; a few dots should be sufficient. Inking Next, take a pen, sharpie or marker and trace around all of the lines that you wish to keep. Pay special attention to the overlapping lines, such as the ears, lips, and the tuft of hair. Erasing Once you have finished inking, erase all of the pencil lines. Be sure to give your marker or pen a few moments to dry as to not smear the ink. Final Touches For the last step, fill in the pupil inside the puppy's eyes, and you are finished! We can start with a box and then round its edges to get the main shape for the head. Lightly draw in a box with sharp edges and then draw the rounded corners to help visualize this process. Once we have our rounded box we can add floppy ears by drawing some rounded shapes, these shapes remind me of the curve of an ice cream but you can use whatever analogy helps you remember the shape. For the final step we can add in the cute dog face by drawing two dots for eyes and a triangle for the nose. I like to leave out the mouth for these drawings because I think it makes them extra cute but feel free to add a mouth if you want more expression on the character! Start by drawing the rounded box followed by a tall rectangle form. In our example the head will be tilted so the rounded box is on an angle. For the second step we add the floppy ears and two of the legs which are made up of cylinders. You can think of the legs as popsicle sticks that attach to the body form. After that we add two more of the legs and the face like we did in our previous practice. The final step is drawing in the tail for the dog, I like to think of the shape of flame which is rounded but comes to a tip. Dogs have many different kinds of tails so you can play around here and see which you like drawing the most. I never had any natural drawing skill but I taught myself how to draw, so I know for a fact that anyone can learn how to draw with proper instruction and some practice. So let me help you on your journey! How to draw a dog step by step Whether or not you own a dog, drawing one is simple when you know the right steps. In this tutorial you will learn how to draw a dog. It is aimed at beginners — but even experienced artists will still learn a thing or two. Getting the size and position of these forms right helps achieve the correct proportions. In the case of a dog, we can reduce it to three circles. The bottom two circles will form the body and the top circle will form the face. Use one line to connect the top of the circles and another to join the bottom, as shown here. Use the guide pictured here to make sure you have the joints in the right position. Make sure that the position of the legs is correct and that they face the right direction and that all the joints bend the right way. At this stage you can also add the tail. Simply draw a straight line at a slight upward angle from the top of the rear circle. Sketch the eye using a lying-down V shape. Use a triangle for the ear. Then use a circle or square for the nose. For now the most important thing is getting the size and position of these details correct. You can combine two different techniques to achieve the best outline. For the top of the body, use normal lines. For the chest and belly area, you can follow the circle of your preliminary sketch and adjust it slightly to get the right body shape. The forehead, muzzle and nose can be joined up to form a continuous shape. Then to add thickness to the legs, draw outlines either side of the scaffold line you drew earlier. And remember — the legs tend to get thicker at the top. Outlines 2 We still need to draw the pair of legs furthest away. The leg pairs look pretty much identical in side view. The only thing to keep in mind is that dogs tend to place their hind legs a bit further apart than the front legs. At this stage, we can also develop the muzzle. Feel free to add a slobbering tongue if you like. The first step is to position the circles correctly. Legs, eyes, muzzle As before, pay attention to the joints and their alignment when pre-drawing the legs. Take a look at these different ways of doing it. Erect ears suggest alertness or even aggression. If you want your dog to be relaxed, you should let the ears hang. Outlines For the quick, sketchy style depicted, you can roughly trace the preliminary drawing with the outlines, then add hair with the help of quick zigzag lines. You can often work out the right places for them using your imagination. Sometimes you might need to take a closer look at the anatomy of a dog. By using the simple steps described here, you can get pretty far in most cases. As with any subject, the best way to capture it most accurately is to draw directly from a living model. This dog will look most like a Golden Retriever. So start with a circle and add the eyelids fairly close to the circle. In the middle of the circle, draw a pupil. For the glow, add a point of light offset slightly at the top. If using a pencil, think about the point of light before you draw, or have a good eraser handy. Nose A dog's nose is a pretty complicated structure with some bumps and folds. Start with a wide square, proportionally like a landscape sheet of A4 paper. Halve it in height and width. Position the nostrils on the horizontal center line, each one halfway to the center point. Round the edges slightly. At the very bottom, put a V in the center. Connect the V and the upper half using a curved line. The nostrils also taper slightly to the sides at 5 o'clock for the right and 7 o'clock for the left. Remove the guide lines except the vertical one, which points down from the center. Muzzle, mouth From the front, the muzzle looks like a W. In this drawing, the dog is looking slightly to the right, so the right side of the W should be a bit narrower than the left. The tongue comes out directly under the W and hangs out over the lower lip. Paws For the paws, you can again start with a basic shape. This time, use a slightly wider square than for the nose. Offset the bottom edges of the four toes very slightly in height to give the paws some depth. You can then give the toes more definition by adding spaces. The neck goes directly into the body. Below the neck, Golden Retrievers have a kind of collar. At the top of the front legs, there are shoulders on both sides, which mark the transition from leg to body. So in this simplified form, use subtle corners on the outer lines, at about the level of the collar. For the moment the outlines can still be smooth connecting lines. They help us for the next step. Final outlines As before with the standing dog, you can indicate fur in the outlines with quick hatching strokes. This softens the hard edges of the outlines and gives the dog its fluffiness. There are many possible workflows here, depending on the software and artist. One option is to work with fill levels for each individual color tone. This gives you the opportunity to adjust and change individual colors at the end. For this dog, we need at least six shades. Here we have four shades of brown for the coat, a base shade, two darker gradations for shading and a lighter gradation for lit areas. We can also use a light pink shade for the tongue and a very dark brown shade for the eyes, nose and for the shadow the muzzle casts on the tongue. You don't have to limit yourself to just a few shades. Shadow 1 hard With the lighter of the two shading browns, you can roughly define some shadow areas. Try to imagine which areas are directly illuminated by the light and which are in shadow. Also think about whether parts of the body cast shadows on other areas. You can also highlight the muzzle, eyes and cheeks a bit, and in some places you can make fur markings for the pattern in the dog's coat. Shadow 1 soft This dog has a soft coat, so we want to achieve that effect in the drawing. Blurring has the effect of making the basic tone of the dog look as soft as possible. With the two hard brown tones i. You can build a fur brush for this purpose. So instead of a line i. Here we're going to look at what goes into constructing a variety of animals, mainly to identify their similarities and to explore how construction can be applied to them, just as we've done with previous subject matter. Major Masses Similar to insects, animals also have three major masses that serve as the core of their bodies, and you can relate these directly to their corresponding masses in the human body as well. The base building block of the head, onto which additional forms are attached. Occupies roughly half of the torso length. A slanted, stretched ball that occupies roughly a quarter of the torso length, leaving a flexible quarter remaining unoccupied by any solid mass. Torso as a sausage form The ribcage and pelvis masses are generally used as building blocks on which to construct the torso. As depicted here, it encompasses both the ribcage and pelvis, and sags a little towards the middle. I always incorporate this sag though I make a point of finding hints of it in whatever reference I'm using, it's not always obvious , even when the back is flat or bulky with muscle - as shown a little further down, we add this additional padding later. On some animals - mainly birds - there isn't much of a need to block in the ribcage and pelvis separately. We can instead start with a simple ball to represent the entirety of their torso. Limbs There's a lot of value in understanding how despite the incredible variety between different animals, we are all evolved from common ancestors. This understanding plays a big role in remembering the different components that exist in all animals - specifically because they exist in ourselves as well. The study of these differences and similarities is called comparative anatomy. Here you can see the structure of an average quadruped's limbs. Just like humans, they share the same number of joints. The rear legs look a little strange to us, but only because the length from the ankle to the ball of the foot is much longer than it would be on a human. That whole section is still the foot however, and these animals walk on their toes they are frequently referred to as being digitigrade, as opposed to humans, which are plantigrade, and hoofed animals, which are unguligrade. Additional masses Once you've got your major construction down, we start thinking about all the extra bulk that one might find in various places on the animal's body. To add this, we don't simply add shapes on like they're stickers - we have to add masses in a way that reflects our understanding of the relationship between the forms we're adding, and the forms that already exist in the scene. This means going back to the organic intersections exercise and thinking about how these forms slump and sag against one another, and how they wrap along another's surface. Think of these as being sacks of flour, or balloons filled with water. They're not stiff - they'll conform a little to whatever they're resting on. When looking at this image, I even want you to pay attention to how the contour curves themselves suggest a good deal of thickness to this mass as they hook around near the bottom, especially towards that front mass near the animal's head. Fur The other matter I wanted to touch upon is the issue of fur. It's very easy to get carried away with drawing fur textures, and most often it's really not necessary. Attempting to render fur will often result in a lot of contrast, which will create a focal point whether you want it or not. There are tricks, however, to imply the presence of a furry surface texture. Instead of covering an entire object with fur, it is generally more effective to simply alter the silhouette of the object. This means applying your furry protrusions around the edge of the object. If you imagine that all of your objects were filled in with black against a solid white background, all you would see is its solid silhouette - and the only information you'd have to infer its surface texture is the consistency and quality of its edge. This is the type of information that viewers will read the quickest, and the kind of information that will stick the most. It's also the reason that the sort of rough, chicken-scratch sketching that you see from beginners is to be avoided. As you gain more skill, you realize that the weaknesses from your early days can be harnessed as tools - as long as you can control them, and apply them only when needed. As with all of the constructional drawing lessons, this lesson isn't about animals - it merely uses them as a tool to develop your internal model of 3D space, and your understanding of how forms relate to one another within it.
