Life Span Did You Know? The Aussiedoodle, sometimes also called an Aussiepoo, is a mixed dog breed that is more popular in the US than they are in Australia. They are a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. Their friendly, sweet nature makes them a good fit as companions and as working dogs. They can often be found serving as therapy dogs, service dogs, and emotional support animals. Both of the dog breeds in this cross are intelligent with friendly dispositions. As such, Aussiedoodles tend to be intelligent, friendly, and affectionate dogs. This mixed dog breed is very playful and gets along well with children and other people and animals. They make great companions that are devoted to their families and love to be around their humans. Because of the Australian Shepherd in the cross, your Aussiedoodle may inherit herding instincts. If your Aussiedoodle starts showing herding behavior, it can be curbed early on by training to redirect that energy towards more positive outlets. The Aussiedoodle adapts well to change. They do well in most climates, but, as with any dog, do not typically do well in extreme hot or cold. They are best-suited for active families and homes with yards where they can romp around. Aussiedoodles can do well in apartments, as long as they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. However, they do not like to be alone for long periods of time and they can develop separation anxiety. If you do have to leave your Aussiedoodle alone, make sure to leave them plenty of challenging toys and puzzles to keep them occupied. Although sometimes mixed breeds win the genetic lottery, they can also still sometimes be prone to the health conditions common to both of the parent breeds. The Aussiedoodle is generally a very healthy dog, but some common health issues to be aware of include hypothyroidism , hip dysplasia, deafness, and epilepsy. Checking the genetic history of the parents and asking for the results of any health screens can give you an idea of what to expect in a puppy and allay any health concerns. The Aussiedoodle is known for being an intelligent crossbreed. This often makes them highly trainable. They are also sensitive and eager to please, which means they respond best to positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Early socialization and training help your Aussiedoodle puppy grow into a well-adjusted dog. Due to their high energy level, they tend to be a better fit for intermediate to experienced dog owners that know how to handle their energy and keep up with them. Their intelligence, paired with their high energy level and working group background, means they are often easily bored and do best when they have a job to do. The busier and more engaged their job keeps them the better. They also love learning new tricks! Without a job to do, they will find ways to entertain themselves, which can result in unwanted or even destructive behavior. Between the Australian Shepherd and the Standard Poodle , the Aussiedoodle coat colors and patterns vary greatly. With the Poodle in the mix, this mixed dog breed can pick up some hypoallergenic qualities and is often low-shedding. However, they have can long, straight fur, a curly coat, or something in the middle, so be prepared for regular grooming to prevent tangles and matting. You may also need to have them professionally groomed every months. Start getting your puppy used to you handling their paws and ears and brushing their teeth early on. Daily brushing is ideal to help keep tartar buildup at bay. An Aussiedoodle will generally have a moderate to high energy level. A good walk a few times a day paired with some active playtime and plenty of attention will keep this pup happy and healthy. Aussiedoodles are also active and athletic enough to compete in dog sports. They tend to be a good fit for flyball, agility, rally, and obedience. They may also love to swim, which is a great activity to help them expel extra energy. In addition to going swimming with your dog , you can also take your Aussiedoodle on a hike with you or on trips to the dog park. Aussiedoodles are medium-sized dogs that usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Looking at the size of the parents, particularly the mother, can give you a good idea of what size to expect in your Aussiedoodle. An Aussiedoodle generally lives for years. Aussiedoodles are fantastic companions and highly intelligent. Featured Aussiedoodle Article. Even though they are a relatively new hybrid breed, Aussiedoodles have a somewhat standard appearance. They are medium-sized dogs with long, squarish bodies and heads. Their triangular ears tend to flop over slightly and frame their face. When it comes to color, you can expect them to be a blue or red merle, black and tan, black and red, or sable—they do not seem to pick up on the browns or lighter shades of their poodle parent. They require a lot of your attention and care, so be prepared! Personality And Temperament Aussiedoodles are very loving, affectionate dogs. You are their family, they are your family, and that is the end of it. They will stick by you quite literally to your side in thick and thin. Have we stressed they are loving yet? Not only are they a loving dog, but they are also goofy, fun dogs to be around. They are not haughty or independent like their poodle parents tend to be. Aussiedoodles are incredibly smart dogs who pick up on training very quickly and may even give you a couple of human-like facial expressions that make you think they can understand way more than they should. Socializing your Aussiedoodle with other dogs is essential to ensure they do not constantly try and herd them. Socializing your Aussiedoodle from an early age will help them treat other dogs more as dogs and not as animals to be herded. If their coat becomes compacted, it can lead to hair loss and skin infections and be very painful for the dog. However, if it is curly like the poodle parent, then you may need to brush your Aussiedoodle every second day. You may choose to trim or shave your Aussiedoodle to keep up with its flowing locks in any way you wish. Some owners like the pompon style of the continental poodle cut, while others prefer a simple sporting cut on their dog. As their ears tend to flop forwards, you will need to clean them out once a week to ensure there is no hair or wax build-up that can lead to an infection. Thanks to their poodle parent, the Aussiedoodle is a low-shedding, low-allergen dog. Of course, no dog is completely hypoallergenic. However, the Aussiedoodle comes fairly close. Exercise Your Aussiedoodle needs a lot of exercise. With parents who are sporting and herding dogs, it is unimaginable to keep an Aussiedoodle cooped up all day and expect them to be happy. Your Aussiedoodle should be allowed to roam around freely during the day and engage themselves as much as possible with their environment and playmates. Having other dogs is a big bonus with Aussiedoodles, as they do not do well when left alone. A minimum of an hour a day should be devoted to actively playing with or exercising your Aussiedoodle. You can take them on a walk or a hike, play retrieving games with them, take them to a dog park, run around the yard with them, do some obedience training, or even go for a good, long run. Without enough physical exercise, your Aussiedoodle will become bored, destructive, and irritable and generally be an unpleasant dog to be around. Mental stimulation is essential, too. Engaging your Aussiedoodle mentally will help wear them out and enrich their lives to no end. Consider using puzzles , slow feeder bowls , communication buttons, and toys. Aussiedoodle Health Concerns In general, Aussiedoodles are very healthy dogs. They have the added benefit of being a hybrid dog, which means they have access to a larger gene pool which allows for better genetic diversity and strength. However, yearly vet visits are still a must. Some common health issues your Aussiedoodle can develop include: Hip and elbow dysplasia. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Aussiedoodles are a very intelligent, lovable, and energetic breed. Most Aussiedoodles tend to shed very little if any at all straighter coats can be prone to more shedding. An F1B or higher generation Aussiedoodle is recommended for those with mild pet allergies. An Aussiedoodle's coat is different than a double coated dog and can be shaved without damaging the hair. We recommend daily brushing and professional grooming every weeks to avoid tangles and matting. Aussiedoodles can have Blue, Green, or Brown eyes, even a mixture of these. All of our Aussiedoodle tails are left natural, just how nature intended! Females tend to be smaller than males. They are sweet, outgoing dogs who are full of life! The Aussiedoodle is a highly intelligent and friendly dog. They are very family orientated and love spending time with their people. Aussiedoodles are often used as service or therapy dogs due to their lovable nature and their train ability. They are a well rounded breed who love to get outside and play but can be just as content to lay at your feet. Training must be done with rewards, firmness, patience and consistency. Both of the breeds used to create the Aussiedoodle are considered to be canine Einsteins, making this one super smart cross-breed. Basic training such as "sit", "come", "stay" etc. It is important to crate train your Aussiedoodle when they are young so that they don't become destructive in your home and are reliable with potty training. Activity: Aussiedoodles require exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and getting into trouble. They will do well in any living situation provided that their needs are sufficiently met. They will do best if given daily walks and playtime. Most Aussiedoodles enjoy swimming, going on hikes, and excel in agility. Aussiedoodles have a medium to high energy level and are best for those who live an active lifestyle. Did you know the temperament of a dog starts being shaped before it is even born? The Mini Aussiedoodle, also sometimes referred to as a Miniature Aussiepoo, is a smaller version of the larger Aussiedoodle. It is a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Miniature Poodle. Their smaller size and sweet disposition make them great companions as well as therapy dogs and emotional support dogs. Miniature Aussiedoodles are friendly, affectionate, devoted to their owners, and highly intelligent. They are lovable balls of fluff with a lot of energy that get along with children, other animals, and other people. Their friendly nature and openness do not generally make them good guard dogs. But, they can be good watchdogs in the sense that they will let you know when someone is around. They may inherit the herding instinct from the Australian Shepherd side. That, paired with their playful nature, could culminate in your Miniature Aussiedoodle attempting to herd family members to keep them in the same place. Training early on can curb any herding tendencies that start to show. Mini Aussiedoodles adapt well to any living situation, but can be more sensitive to weather. Due to their smaller size, they are less able to handle very hot or very cold weather. That is something to keep in mind when you take them outside during the summer or winter. In the winter, keep their coat groomed at a normal or a little longer length and bundle them up with some winter dog gear to help them handle the cold better. They do tend to do best in a home with a yard where they can run around. But, with proper exercise and plenty of attention, these dogs can adapt to apartment living as well. They crave attention from their families, so do not like to be alone for long periods of time. This mixed dog breed can sometimes develop separation anxiety. Oftentimes, a good workout before you leave plus some challenging puzzle toys can help them handle alone time a little bit better. There are health issues to be aware of with any dog breed and mixed breeds are no different. Sometimes the genetic variation in the mixed dog breed can result in some immunity and sometimes the mixed breed is still susceptible to the health conditions common in both parent breeds. Mini Aussiedoodles are generally very healthy dogs, but some health conditions to be aware of are deafness, allergies, epilepsy , hypothyroidism, and hip dysplasia. The genetic history of the parents and the results of any health tests can help you determine what to expect and allay any potential health concerns. Between their intelligence and their higher energy level, Miniature Aussiedoodles are highly trainable, but they can also be a handful. Dog owners with some experience with high energy breeds tend to be a better fit for this mixed dog breed. Novice owners can have success as long as they live an active lifestyle, are capable of handling a high-energy dog, and are willing to enroll in obedience classes to help them nail positive training techniques. Mini Aussiedoodles love having a job to do and are eager to please. This mixed dog breed will pick up on things easily, but will also tend to get bored. Ensuring they have a job to do goes a long way in keeping this energetic pup occupied. They also tend to be athletic, so can be good candidates for dog sports like rally, obedience, flyball, and agility. Because of the mix between the Australian Shepherd and the Miniature Poodle , coat colors and patterns will vary with the Miniature Aussiedoodle. The texture will be soft and will likely be low-shedding with some hypoallergenic properties. However, their coat is not low maintenance. It can be long and straight, curly, or anything between. You will want to brush your Mini Aussiedoodle a few times a week to keep their fur free of tangles and to prevent matting. You will also want to get them professionally groomed every months. Their ears will need to be checked regularly to ensure they are clean and dry and their nails will need to be trimmed once or twice monthly. Daily tooth brushing is ideal to prevent tartar buildup. Getting your puppy used to having their paws and ears handled and introducing them to having their teeth brushed early on will make grooming and care much easier as they grow. This is a moderate to high energy mixed dog breed that needs plenty of exercise, attention, and mental stimulation to remain happy and healthy. Walks a few times a day and active playtime every day should be sufficient. This pup requires an active lifestyle, so engaging in more rigorous activities like swimming, hiking, dog sports, or taking trips to the dog park are also a good idea. Ongoing training and ensuring your Mini Aussiedoodle always has a job to do will keep your pup happy and generally well-behaved. If left without a job or proper exercise, they will often find ways to entertain themselves, which can result in destructive behavior. Miniature Aussiedoodles usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. With mixed breeds, looking at the size of the parents can give you a good idea of what to expect as your puppy grows. The Mini Aussiedoodle generally lives for years. Featured Miniature Aussiedoodle Article. Aussiedoodle is the most common name however some people prefer Aussiepoo. Nevertheless, it is thought to have originated in the United States n the late 20th century when mixing a range of different dogs with Poodles was rising in popularity. Today, the Aussiedoodle is a very popular family dog, working dog or therapy dog as they are so affectionate, intelligent and are so hypoallergenic. The two breeds that make an Aussiedoodle are the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle. It is a designer dog breed as it was intentionally created by mixing these two purebred dogs together to get the desired traits. The original goal of crossing the Australian Shepherd with the Poodle was to create a highly intelligent and loyal dog that had the hypoallergenic and low shedding coat of the Poodle as well as the work ethic of an Australian Shepherd. Aussiedoodle via citysniffers Australian Shepherd Poodle Mix Temperament The temperament of an Australian Shepherd Poodle Mix can vary depending on many factors such as the percentage mix of Poodle to Australian Shepherd, their socialization, environment as well as training. As an overview, Australian Shepherd Poodle Mixes have an intelligent, affectionate, loyal, friendly and energetic temperament. Are Aussiedoodles Intelligent? Aussiedoodles are very intelligent as both the Poodle and Australian Shepherd are known to be very smart. Poodles are ranked 2nd for working and obedience training out of breeds while Australian Shepherds are ranked 42nd. Aussiedoodles are eager to please and quick learners as they are so smart which makes them relatively easy to train. Are Aussiedoodles Hyper Dogs? Aussiedoodles can be quite hyper if they are not given enough exercise each day. They may exhibit behaviors such as chewing, pacing or being vocal if their daily exercise needs are not met. Aussiedoodles may also display signs of being hyperactive as a puppy however their energy levels usually decrease as they mature. Early socialization can also help with hyperactivity. Aussiedoodles often form a particularly close bond with one person even though they are usually very friendly and affectionate with all family members. This is usually the person they spend the most time with or who they consider to be their primary caregiver. Do Aussiedoodles Have Separation Anxiety? Aussiedoodles are prone to separation anxiety like lots of other dog breeds. They may bark, pace, be destructive or attempt to escape if they are left alone for long periods of time. Do Aussiedoodles Like To Jump? Aussiedoodles have a tendency to jump as they are such an energetic and excitable dog breed. An Aussiedoodle can either look more like an Australian Shepherd or more like a Poodle as it is a crossbreed so their appearance can be slightly unpredictable. They usually have a curly or wavy low-shedding coat that is short or medium in length. It can come in many colors such as blue merle, red merle, black, white, chocolate, cream and grey. In terms of stature, they have a well-proportionated, athletic build with a deep chest like an Australian Shepherd. They usually have almond shaped eyes that are blue or brown. These are the wavy coat, curly coat and straight coat. Their coats can range from thick to thin and can have slightly different textures depending on the individual dog. Wavy Coat The wavy coat is one of the most common Aussiedoodle coat types. It features a gentle wave and is low to non-shedding. Wavy coats are quite hypoallergenic however curly coats are generally considered to be the most hypoallergenic. In terms of maintenance, wavy coats are generally easier to groom than curly coats. Curly Coat The curly coat is the next most common Aussiedoodle coat type and is generally seen in backcross generations such as F1b Aussiedoodles, F1bb Aussiedoodles and F2b Aussiedoodles as they have a higher percentage of Poodle genes. These coats require more effort to maintain as they are more susceptible to matting. Straight Coat The straight coat, also called the flat coat, is the least common Aussiedoodle coat type. It is usually seen in reverse backcross generations such as F1b Reverse Aussiedoodles as they have a higher percentage of Australian Shepherd genes. Generally, straight coats are not as hypoallergenic and are light to moderate shedding so are not as suitable for allergy sufferers as curly or wavy coats. Nevertheless, straight coats are quite rare for Aussiedoodles. They would have originally had a solid grey coat but the merle gene diluted it into mottled patches. The merle gene also affects eye color and skin pigmentation on the nose and paws. This means that Merle Aussiedoodles often have very light eye colors such as blue and often have pink patches on their nose and paws. Red Merle Aussiedoodles feature a mottled coat with red, copper, beige and white patches. The gene may result in them having blue eyes and areas of their skin that lacks pigmentation. They are interchangeable names for the same coat coloring. Chocolate Aussiedoodles look very similar to Blue Merle Aussiedoodles except they originally would have had a chocolate liver base coat instead of a black one. The merle gene dilutes sections of their coat into chocolate, copper, beige and white patches. Black Aussiedoodle Black Aussiedoodle via doodleandyrescue Black Aussiedoodles feature a solid black coat with a black nose and dark eyes. They may also feature small white patches on their chest or paws. Breeders achieve the black coat by breeding a Black Poodle with a Black Australian Shepherd that is not merle. Black and White Aussiedoodle Black and White Aussiedoodle via feedfenzl Black and White Aussiedoodles have a black base coat and feature white patches on their chest, paws, legs, tips of their tails and muzzle. They are also called Tuxedo Aussiedoodles as their coat pattern makes it look like they are wearing a suit. Chocolate Aussiedoodle Chocolate Aussiedoodle via kerrymhair Chocolate Aussiedoodles feature a solid brown coat that can range from a very light to a rich brown tone. Their noses and eyes are brown. In most cases they will have a black tri-color or red tri-color coat. Aussiedoodles inherit this coloring from the Australian Shepherd side. Black Tri-color Aussiedoodles feature a black base coat with white and tan markings over their face and body. They look a lot like Bernedoodles. On the other hand, Red Tri-color Aussiedoodles feature a red base coat with white and tan markings over their body and face. These locations include the chin, throat, chest, legs, beneath their tail, above their eyes or on the sides of their muzzle. Phantom Aussiedoodles are different from Parti Aussiedoodles as Parti Aussiedoodles can have patches anywhere on their body. Sable Aussiedoodle Sable Aussiedoodle via aussiedood. The sable undertones are most prominent on an Aussiedoodles muzzle, eye brows and legs. They may also have white patches on their chest and paws. Most of the time the secondary color is black or red. Parti Aussiedoodles are also called bi-color Aussiedoodles as they feature two colors. Aussiedoodle Lifespan The average Aussiedoodle lives for 12 to 15 years. There are many factors that affect the lifespan of an Aussiedoodle including size, gender, generation and whether they are desexed or intact. These variables mean they can have shorter or longer lifespans than the average. Give your Aussiedoodle the best chance of living a long life by exercising them daily, giving them healthy food and keeping on top of vet appointments.
They have an increased fondness for people but do not show it openly by jumping at or licking them when they arrive. In fact, these friendly dogs can even take time in accepting new people. Besides being affectionate and caring, they are also smart and intelligent. These dogs are good with kids and the pets in its family. Daneoodles are always eager to please and would cherish the moments with its family members only in return for a little praise and some attention. The Great Danoodles are responsible pets, and stay loyal throughout their lives. They would guard the house, and bark if they spot any unfamiliar face around. This trait makes them excellent watchdogs. Though their barks are loud, they are not incessant barkers. Take it out for a couple of daily jogs or walks of course on a leash this time , mainly, if you find your dog has started gaining some weight. Grooming This breed is a low shedder, and only some basic grooming is enough for them. Brush them two to three times every week, and bathe them once in a while if you think it needs some cleaning. But use a dog shampoo only. However, using various treats accompanied by praises would make your task simpler. Train it to collect garbage and put it in the right place. Later, throw the items randomly, and command your dog to fetch one of them. If your dog fails to understand, pick it up yourself and call your dog there. Offer the trash to it until it grasps it in its mouth. In the same way, go to the garbage bin, and call your dog there, and make it un-grasp it in the bin. Give it a treat immediately, and praise considerably. Repeat the process for a few times, and continue it regularly. Your dog will soon learn to collect trash and keep your house clean. Because your dog loves you a lot and enjoys your company, it is quite likely that separation anxiety might quickly inhibit it. So, before you leave for work, or after return home, do not make a big deal. Stay calm and indifferent, as if, living without you every day for a few hours is a part of its routine. Do not talk, do not touch, nor make any eye contact from minutes before you leave, and after you come back. Articles Great Danes are a personal favorite dog breed. Their almost comically large build means that they are rarely used to bear mixed doggies. However, when it does happen, the results are priceless. One of the most popular Great Dane mixes is the Great Danoodle, which is a mix with a purebred Poodle. Due to the size differences, Standard Poodles are often chosen for pairing with a healthier and more predictably-sized mixed doggy. Despite the Great Dane Poodle being such an interesting and loveable mix, this breed is not very common and thus not often profiled. So if you need information on this novel designer pooch, you have come to the right place. Due to the size differences, a female Great Dane will be chosen to carry the puppies to avoid chances of complications during pregnancy or delivery. So how big can a Great Danoodle get? Below is more on the size ranges for these mixed doggies as well as other physical traits you can expect from them. This mixed-breed dog averages 28 to 30 inches in height and 90 to lbs in weight. This makes them some of the largest designer dogs on the market. If the Dane Poo Mix is made using smaller Poodle varieties like the Toy Poodle or Miniature Poodle , the resulting mix will be much shorter and lighter than the mix made with Standard Poos. If they take after the Poodle parent, the Great Danoodle usually has a dense and curly coat. They may also have special markings, in which case merle, harlequin, and brindle patterns are the most common. A Great Dane Poodle can live for 8 to 13 years. This is pretty typical for large dogs and similar ranges can be expected for the purebred Great Dane and Standard Poodles. The mixed breeding to develop Dane Poos eliminates a lot of the diseases that affect each individual purebred dog used in the mix. However, there are some common health issues that you might still find in your Great Danoodle. These include: Epilepsy Epilepsy is a condition that causes seizures in the Great Danoodle. The inherited disorder has no cure, and all you can do is protect your dog from triggers and manage the seizures with medication. Bloat Large and deep-chested dog breeds like the Standard Poodle and the Great Dane are likely to develop a condition known as gastric dilatation volvulus. The stomach twists on itself when dilated by food and fills up with air which is why the condition is sometimes referred to as bloat. Allergic reactions to things like parasites, pollen, dust, and even food will often manifest with this skin irritation. Without early and adequate treatment, the irritation could easily result in skin breaks from scratching and eventually cause skin infections. Cancer Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Great Danoodles. They range from blood cell cancers to solid tumors in the gut, reproductive system, and pretty much any other system in their bodies. For the most part, cancers in Dane Poos occur when they are very old. However, constant surveillance through routine vet visits is an important strategy to catch cancer early and give your Great Danoodle a fighting chance. At first glance, the Great Dane Poodle Mix may seem a bit intimidating in terms of their care needs. I mean what are you to do with a giant pound dog that is just as tall as you are when they stand up? However, whether you are a first-time dog owner or have some experience, the Great Danoodle is a relatively easy dog to take care of. You just have to understand what they need and come up with a care plan and schedule that works for the mixed doggies. Here are some of their needs. A Healthy Diet A healthy diet for a Great Dane Poodle Mix means dog food made from high-quality ingredients, nutritionally balanced meals, and appropriate portions. As far as portions go, the Dane Poo can have about 4 to 6 cups of food per day, depending on their size and age. Regular Exercise Great Dane Poodle mixed dogs are very active and energetic and require plenty of exercise to keep them healthy and sane. We recommend two exercise sessions every day for about 1 to 2 hours each. Good Grooming Practices Basic grooming for your Great Danoodle will include clipping its nails every two weeks, wiping its ears every week, and cleaning its face occasionally with moist towels or doggy wet wipes. Dental hygiene is also an important part of grooming for the care of your Great Danoodle. You can make your life easier while still getting the job done by using dental water additives. Are Great Danoodles Playful? Standard Poodles, on the other hand, are praised for their high intelligence levels, but they can be a bit aloof and reserved. So what personality does the Great Danoodle take after? The answer is a little bit of both. For a better understanding of your Great Danoodle, here are some of the common personality traits you can expect from your mixed doggy. Loyal Great Dane Poodle mixes get their loyalty from both sides of the family and make for some of the most responsible and trustworthy dogs. They form very deep and lasting bonds with their human companions and will truly be a part of the family. Smart Great Danes and Poodles are both very smart dogs, thereby making the Dane Poo Mix very intelligent and easy to train. It also helps that they are obedient and always eager to please, especially with the right incentives like treats. Energetic A Great Danoodle may be large, but they have the energy levels and spunk of smaller dogs, like fun toy breeds. Due to their high energy levels, regular exercise and engagement are crucial to both their physical and psychological well-being. These super-friendly dogs require very little socialization and instinctively love being around people, even strangers. Adaptable Whether you want an outdoor adventure buddy, a companion for your solo setting, or even a family pet, Great Danoodles will very easily adapt and thrive. Their intelligence and generally laid-back, go-with-the-flow nature makes this adaptability possible. Whichever coat type your Great Danoodle has, here are 2 of the most important coat care tips and tricks to keep your mixed doggy looking beautiful. This helps reduce the chances of fur getting knotted and matted while also getting rid of any loose fur within the coat. It has strong, metallic bristles that are closely spaced to collect loose fur while detangling knots in the coat. Removes loose hair: reaches through the topcoat to remove loose undercoat hair without cutting skin or damaging the.FURejector button: just push the button to release hair with ease. For Dane Poo Mixes with skin issues like infections or dermatitis from allergies, you may want to extend the interval to every 6 to 8 weeks. This is because washing Great Danoodles with problematic skin too often could actually cause more damage by stripping protective oils. In addition to switching your intervals, you should also invest in high-quality grooming products that are specifically formulated for Great Dane Poodle mixes with sensitive skin. How expensive this mixed dog will depend on the availability of the two popular and sometimes pricey purebred parents. The price will inevitably be high for Great Danoodles bred from prized Poodle lineages. Great Danoodles can technically swim which is a strength that they inherit from both the Great Dane and Poodle parents. However, if they are anything like the Great Dane side of the family, swimming will not be their favorite activity. Poodles and Great Danes typically get along very well, if you are considering getting both dogs as pets. This is largely due to the friendly and accepting nature of the Great Dane that pairs perfectly with the calm and tolerant nature of Poodles. However, Poodles may need some socialization training to truly learn to bond with other pets including Great Danes. Otherwise, the aloof Poodle will just tolerate their presence without necessarily engaging. Lifespan Sociability In general, Great Danoodles are one of the more expensive crossbreed puppies. The Great Danoodle is a fairly rare crossbreed and the demand for them is high. These dogs are intelligent and obedient. They would make a wonderful family dog and do equally well as a guard dog. They were first bred in the s. There is evidence that the Great Danoodle was first bred somewhere in the early s. This makes it one of the most stable crossbreeds available, particularly if you get one from a reputable and experienced breeder. They have ancient origins. The Standard Poodle breed was first recognized more than years ago, while the Great Dane has origins that stretch as far back as 3, B. While a Poodle has a reputation as a spoilt and pampered lap dog, they were commonly bred in the past as hard-working sport dogs. Great Danes were often bred for the same purpose, so the combination of these breeds makes for a highly intelligent, hard-working animal, with a long and revered history. They have infinite coat variations. The wavy coat of the Great Danoodle can come in many different lengths, and the colors are almost infinite, coming in solid or multicolored variations of black, white, blue, red, grey, etc. The combination of the curly, dense fur of Poodles with the wiry, sleek coat of Great Danes makes for a wide variety of coat differences. They are amazingly loyal and easily trainable and love to be around people. They have a deep, unconditional love and trust for their human owners, and while both males and females are highly sociable, the females tend to latch onto one owner. They will often suffer from separation anxiety if left alone, as they are social dogs who love regular interaction. They love to be in packs and are playful and full of energy with other dogs. Provided that they grow up with other dogs and cats around and are socialized from an early age, they are unlikely to hunt or display any aggression toward other animals. They will need a large amount of food to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, but they are prone to overeating and will need to be carefully monitored to prevent getting overweight. Depending on the type of food they are getting, a good gauge of daily requirements is at least 4 large cups of high-quality dry dog pellets per day. Like all dogs, Great Danoodles need constant access to fresh, clean water. An easy way to get adequate hydration for your dog is to add high-quality wet food into their diet. Great Danoodles also need a source of essential fatty acids , which are good for their coats, internal organs, and nervous system. They will need a large amount of protein, which will supply them with energy and assist with skin, nail, bone, and muscle structure. That said, carbohydrates like wheat and corn should be avoided. Most dogs need around calories per pound per day to maintain a healthy weight. This can be altered depending on how active the breed is. For a Great Danoodle, their large size and high energy levels mean they may need a fair bit more. Around minutes of brisk walking three times a day is optimal, but once a day is suitable on occasion. Their large size is better suited to homes with large yards for them to run around in, but even this is not an adequate replacement for regular exercise. Their highly trainable nature makes them easily take to a leash, and with the right kind of training, Great Danoodles will love to run alongside you on a leash. Indeed, their large, strong bodies and abundant energy levels make training essential, as they can easily sweep you off your feet if they get too excited. General play cannot be counted as exercise unless they are playing fetch or some other form of high-intensity play. Long walks or runs are the best forms of exercise for a Great Danoodle to burn off any excess energy. That said, they will love the mental stimulation provided by ball games. The use of treats also helps, and this breed can be taught a variety of tricks when trained with repetition and consistency. Female Great Danoodles tend to mature earlier and are thus are ready to train quicker than males. That said, they can become moody and obstinate at times, whereas males generally have a more consistent temperament for training. Both males and females love to impress their owners by responding to commands and calls. In general, it is on the shorter side and is thick and wavy. However, it can be more like a Great Dane coat, in which case, it will be short and wiry. In either case, this breed is known to not shed much, so they do not need frequent grooming. The occasional brush and regular bath are all a Great Danoodle needs for a healthy coat. That said, regular exercise and a healthy and complete diet will go a long way in mitigating many common ailments associated with both breeds. Big dogs tend to have more issues with joints and muscles in general, and regular checkups at the vet are a good idea to keep on top of any issues that may arise, especially with older dogs. Great Danes have huge frames, and it is not surprising that they experience joint and bone diseases like hip dysplasia, and this can be passed down to Great Danoodles. They also commonly suffer from cardiomyopathy, which is a disease that leads to the enlargement of the heart. Unless you intend to breed, neutering a male dog has many associated health benefits , including preventing testicular cancer, reducing aggression, and stopping them from wandering. Similarly, spaying a female helps prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, and doing so before her first heat will mitigate these complications even more. Minor Conditions. This article will provide you with a comprehensive guide on everything you need to know about this unique and interesting breed. Unfortunately, there is not much information on the background of the Great Dane Poodle Mix itself. In the past, the Great Dane was used by the Germans to hunt wild boar. The large and powerful stature of the breed proved perfect to take on such dangerous game. Today, the Great Dane is known as a loyal and protective companion dog. Poodle History The Poodle is similar to the Great Dane in that there is much confusion about its home country. Despite being lauded as the national dog of France, it actually also originated in Germany. Back in the early days of the breed, they were used by nobility as water retrievers. Their dense and corded coat provided good protection from the elements. The breed was a naturally gifted swimmer, making it perfect for the job. In modern times, Poodles are well-loved for their flashy coats and incredible intelligence. They serve as companion dogs and also excel in a variety of canine sports. Both parent dogs are within the top 15 most popular breeds, according to the American Kennel Club. Yes, this mix can potentially result in the corded coat of the poodle on a dog with the height of a Great Dane! First-generation crosses are notoriously hard to predict. The puppy may take after either parent in any aspect. This applies to their height and weight as well, so the best we can provide you with is an estimated range. For the Great Dane Poodle Mix, you can expect height to range between inches, and weight to be around pounds. These ranges are very large A closer estimation of a specific puppy may be obtained by asking for the heights and weights of the parent dogs. The puppy will likely fall somewhere within the height and weight ranges of its parents. The Great Danepoo certainly has the potential to be very large, so it is very important to be prepared for that. As for the physical characteristics of the Great Dane Poodle Mix, they may take after either parent breed. They may have the strong and muscular build of the Great Dane or the more delicate and square build of the Poodle. As for the coat, the Great Danoodle can indeed inherit the curly and corded coat of the Poodle! However, it is just as possible for them to inherit the short, smooth coat of the Great Dane. Potential coat colors include yellow-gold, black, white, blue, gray, silver, apricot, brown, merle and cream. Black markings may exist too. However, there are a few potential temperamental issues within this breed. First, both breeds are very people-oriented. This means that they are very likely to be a loving dog to members of the family but it may lead to issues with separation anxiety. Leaving this dog on its own for an extended period of time may result in negative behaviors due to anxiety. It is also possible for Great Danoodles to inherit a strong urge to chase from the Great Dane parent. While good obedience training can help with this, it is still advised to not house this dog with particularly small children or animals who may be at risk from this behavior. They are very large dogs and while they may only mean to play, they may still cause accidents. There is also the possibility for this breed to have guard and territorial instincts. While this is rarely strong enough in this breed to cause a problem, it is still something to be aware of. If your Great Danepoo is exhibiting aggression or is very high-strung, they may need focused training to lessen this behavior. It is very important that they are trained in both obedience and socialization from a young age. As this cross has the potential to be a very large and powerful dog, it is imperative that you are the one in control. We have some resources below to help train your puppy to grow up into a well-mannered adult. It is a combination of the Great Dane and the Poodle. The resulting dog is usually large and athletic, with a thick coat that can come in a variety of colors. While the exact origins of the Great Danoodle are unknown, it is thought that this hybrid first appeared in the United States in the s. Since then, they have become increasingly popular as both companion animals and working dogs. They can also be the perfect pet because they are intelligent and friendly. They are also used as service dogs, therapy dogs, and even as hunting companions. As a result, they can inherit the best of both breeds — the athletic build and gentle nature of the Great Dane, combined with the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle. This mixed breed typically stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. They have a straight or slightly wavy or curly coat that can be either short or long and come in a wide range of colors, including black, blue, silver, cream, brown, apricot, and red. Great Danoodle — Temperament Like both of its parent breeds, the Great Danoodle is an intelligent and active dog that loves to play and has a strong bond with its family. However, the Great Danoodle inherits some of the best traits of both breeds, making it an even more versatile and loving companion. For example, the Great Dane aspect of the Great Danoodle gives it a calm and gentle demeanor, while the Poodle side provides the energy and playful nature that makes this breed so special. As a result, the Great Danoodle is an ideal pet for families with children or active adults who are looking for a fun-loving and loyal companion. Great Danoodle — Training Needs The Great Dane Poodle mix, also known as the Great Danoodle, is a large and friendly dog that makes a great companion for active families. The Dane part of the mix is likely to inherit some of the independent streak common to most large breeds, so early socialization and obedience training are essential. The Poodle component means the dog will probably be highly intelligent and quick to learn new tricks; however, they may also require more patience and consistent training than some other breeds. Overall, the Great Danoodle is a smart and affectionate dog that will thrive in a home where they are given plenty of exercise, love, and attention. When raised in a loving home with plenty of attention and exercise, the Great Danoodle can be a gentle giant. This breed is intelligent and can be eager to please, making them easy to train. For this reason, it is important to make sure that your Great Danoodle receives plenty of socialization from an early age. With the right training and socialization, the Great Danoodle can be a devoted and loving companion. This breed loves to play and will enjoy a good game of fetch or tug-of-war. They also need plenty of space to run and should be taken on long walks or runs daily. In addition, the Great Danoodle benefits from having a yard to play in. Without enough exercise, this breed can become bored and destructive. As a result, it is important to make sure that your Great Danoodle gets plenty of exercise every day. Great Danoodle — Mental Stimulation The Great Dane Poodle mix, also known as the Great Danoodle, is a large and intelligent breed of dog that needs plenty of mental stimulation. This breed loves to learn new tricks and will excel in obedience training. They are also quick to learn new commands and respond well to positive reinforcement. In addition, the Great Danoodle benefits from having a job to do. This breed is happiest when they are given a task to perform, such as fetching the newspaper or guarding the home. Without enough mental stimulation, this breed can become bored and destructive. They are also prone to separation anxiety if left alone for too long, so they are not the best choice for families with busy schedules. As a result, it is important to make sure that your Great Danoodle has plenty of toys and games to keep them occupied. This breed has a thick coat of hair that requires daily brushing to prevent matting and tangles. They also shed heavily and will require weekly vacuuming to remove loose hair from the home. In addition, the Great Danoodle needs to be bathed regularly to keep its coat clean and healthy. Hip and elbow dysplasia are both hereditary conditions that can cause joint pain and mobility problems. Bloat is a condition that can cause the stomach to twist and fill with gas, leading to pain and potentially death. While these conditions are serious, they can be controlled with proper medical care. Great Danoodle — What should they Eat? This mixed breed is a rather large dog that requires high-quality dog food. They do best on a diet of dry kibble or raw meat. They also require plenty of exercise and should be given two to three meals per day. In addition, the Great Danoodle benefits from having a diet that is high in protein and low in fat. This breed is also prone to bloat, so it is important to avoid giving them large meals or treats. Instead, give them small meals throughout the day to prevent this condition. Great Danoodle — Are they Dog Friendly? The Great Dane Poodle mix is very friendly. This breed loves to play and will get along well with other dogs. They are also social creatures and enjoy being around people. This breed is gentle and loving, but they can also be protective of their family. As a result, the Great Danoodle makes an excellent companion for any family. Great Danoodle — Are they Child Friendly? But are they good with kids? In fact, many Great Danoodles are patient and tolerant enough to be wonderful therapy dogs. That being said, every dog is an individual. With their calm and gentle dispositions, Great Danoodles are typically great with kids of all ages. This should occur until everyone is comfortable with each other. Great Danoodle — Do they Drool? The Great Dane Poodle mix, also known as the Great Danoodle, is a large breed of dog that is known for drooling. This breed has a very thick coat of hair that traps saliva and moisture, which can cause them to drool. In addition, the Great Danoodle has a large mouth and tongue, which can also contribute to their drooling. While this breed is known for drooling, it is important to keep their coat clean and dry to prevent infection. Great Danoodle — Barking Levels Any dog owner knows that barking is a normal part of canine communication. However, some breeds tend to bark more than others. This can be problematic for apartment dwellers or those who live in close proximity to their neighbors. Luckily, there are a number of mixed breeds that are known for being relatively quiet. One of them is the Great Danoodle! While Great Danes are known for being quite vocal, Standard Poodles are actually one of the quieter breeds. As a result, Great Danoodles tend to inherit the best of both worlds. They inherit the size and sweetness of the Great Dane with the quiet nature of the Standard Poodle. While the dog does enjoy spending time outdoors, it is not necessarily dependent on warm weather for exercise. The Great Danoodle does quite well in colder climates, thanks to the thick coat of fur that covers its body. The coat helps to insulate the dog against the cold and can even protect against snow and ice buildup. As such, the Great Danoodle makes an ideal companion for those who live in cooler climates or who enjoy spending time outdoors in all seasons. This is on par with other large breeds of dogs, such as the Labrador Retriever and the Golden Retriever. These include diet, exercise, and genetics. Therefore, it is important to consult with a veterinarian as a pet owner. This will ensure that your Great Danoodle is receiving the best possible care. With proper care and nutrition, this mixed breed can enjoy a long and happy life. If you are interested in registering your Great Danoodle with the AKC, you may do so as a mixed breed. While the Great Danoodle is not currently recognized as a separate breed, this may change in the future as the popularity of the breed increases. This breed is not currently recognized by the AKC, which means that there are no set standards for pricing. When searching for a Great Danoodle puppy, be sure to do your research to find a reputable breeder who can provide you with a healthy and happy pup. Final Thoughts Great Danes are some of the most gentle and loving dogs you could ever hope to meet. Poodles, on the other hand, are known for being highly intelligent, trainable, and eternally cheerful. Great Danoodles combine the best features of both breeds.
I recently reserved an English bulldog puppy. He was born 4 days premature by C-Section and has 7 other littermates. His mother is a red and white, kc registered family pet and his father is a kc registered red and white stud dog who participates in shows. My puppy opened his eyes around 2 weeks old and started walking around 3 weeks old. Fast forward to now, he is 6 weeks old tomorrow. When we saw a video of him walking at 3 weeks old, he seemed to have some weakness in his back legs but we passed it off as normal because he had only just started trying to walk. His siblings seem to have some leg issues too. Another pup in the same video had one leg that seemed to go out to the side, as if stretching. They walk on wooden floor and the grass outside. They are being weaned onto puppy food and are drinking from a bowl etc. Everything else with my puppy is fine, his eating and drinking habits, his toiletry habits etc. They are all booked in to see the vet on Monday and then I am viewing my pup on Tuesday. I am just looking for some piece of mind. Should I be concerned about his legs? Is this true? Any help or advice is welcome and appreciated. Thank you in advance. Being responsible breeders of these fabulous dogs, we strive to keep the breed healthy with select breeding. Much research and planning goes into play before each litter of puppies. Our puppies are raised with our family and get socialized on a daily basis. We offer limited registration and all our puppies come with a puppy pack. Happy, Healthy Bloodline When choosing a good dog, you want to find breeders who breed for good health and temperament and have great lines, not breeders breeding mainly for money and looks, or those making false claims just to attract buyers. Their temperament, gentle nature and intelligent personality makes them the perfect companion for families with small kids or those that just need a good friend to snuggle with. A Furever Friend Since every puppy has its own character, we like to see how each puppy mingles with its new owners when choosing their forever friend. We make it our priority that the puppy you choose will be the best fit for your family. After years of selective breeding, these lighter specimens were given the name "English light golden retrievers. The color of the coat has nothing to do with a dog's health. But ancestry could possibly have an effect on health. There is at least a little evidence that, on average, English bloodlines are healthier. Research also found that goldens from English bloodlines had an average lifespan of 12 - 14 years whereas American goldens lived for an average of 10 - 12 years. Putting statistics to the side, it's our priority to ensure our puppies will live a happy and healthy life. Do English Retrievers Shed Less? Because English retrievers have less hair, you will notice less hair around the house, but this does not mean that they shed less compared to their American counterparts. All retrievers shed at the same rate and usually shed the most during spring and fall. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Availability of puppies and conditions of sale are at the sole discretion of the individual breeder. They truly love their golden's and have passion for what they do.Beautiful dogs.We researched breeders in and found BBG to adopt a puppy our 4th golden for our family of five and none of us looked back! We found a breeder with knowledge, support, advice, respect, kindness, compassion, care and incredible love for the dogs! Best decision ever!!! After doing her research, Kerry flew all the way from Washington to PA to add new blood to her line to insure healthy puppies for her offspring and their owners. I selected BBG as a breeder due to Kerry's passion for breeding healthy and happy dogs. With health checks for multiple generations of both the Dame and Sire lines, it was very important to me that I was not supporting a puppy mill or irresponsible breeding industry. I couldn't be happier with my two boys, other than I can hear one of them in my closet as I write this. You will become a member of the BBG family, and it is fantastic. If you want a gorgeous, correct golden with just the right blend of show and field lines that has been given the absolute best start in life, you want a BBG golden. I live on the other side of the country, and I did an absolute TON of research on the lines carried by Golden Retriever breeders from across the country, and I kept circling back to BBG. BBG is truly unique, not just their look and lines, but also the fact that they keep it small, so your puppy will be given daily love, attention, and neurological stimulation with everything from baby slides and toys, to moshing in a fun ball pit! You won't just get daily photos and videos of your special puppy from birth on, but your puppy will also leave their care having been extensively socialized and exposed to just about everything a family dog will experience, because he or she will be born and raised INSIDE their home. My BBG golden is incredibly intelligent, and is everything a Golden should be! Thank you, Kerry and Vicki! Always on hand to answer any questions! Our Program Personality We understand that each English Cream Golden Retriever puppy has their own unique personality and temperament traits, including assertiveness, motivation, energy level, tenderheartedness, intensity, and focus. Our observation of their socialization and interaction with humans and other animals such as cats, provides important indicators for your puppy's needs and lifestyle. Family Looking for a lifelong companion for your children? Our English Cream Golden Retriever puppies are loving, happy, and easygoing playmates, who not only create great memories but also promote emotional and physical development. From building self-esteem to developing empathy and responsibility, our companion puppies have many positive impacts on children. Socialization At Golden Beaches, we believe in providing our puppies with the essential socialization necessary to become lifelong companions. Our multi-pet household allows our puppies to have early exposure to cats, which promotes respect and understanding for other animals and children. This socialization also benefits cats by overcoming fears and promoting positive behavior. Many of our clients with multi-pet households have found this approach beneficial, and some have even added a kitten to their family after starting out with one of our puppies. Nutrition At Golden Beaches, we prioritize the health and well-being of our Golden Retrievers by providing them with premium, holistically formulated dog food from puppyhood to adulthood. Our food has never been recalled and is packed with nutrients and protein, ensuring that our dogs have shiny coats, bright eyes, and long-term benefits. We believe that good nutrition is key to keeping our dogs healthy and happy, so we take the time to ensure that they receive the best possible care, socialization, and early training. Adventure Experience the great outdoors with your athletic, water-loving Golden Retriever. Our playful companions are the perfect adventure buddies for hiking, swimming, and exploring nature. With our Goldens, you'll make unforgettable memories while staying active and healthy. Join us on our journey and let us help you embrace the beauty of nature with your beloved furry friend. Confidence At Golden Beaches, we prioritize the early development of our puppies by exposing them to different sights, smells, and sounds. We even play various genres of music and sounds to help them adapt to new environments. Our approach includes using evaluation methods like the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test, as well as introducing them to different activities and tests. Through these efforts, we gain a better understanding of your pup's unique level of confidence, ensuring they will be comfortable in any situation. Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Washington Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. What type of Golden Retrievers are sold in Washington? We have some good news! Ready to make your Golden Retriever dreams come true? Take a look at our convenient list of available puppies. How do I know which breeders to trust in Washington? Our independent network of trusted breeders have already been pre-screened and verified, so that you can focus on what really matters: choosing your dream puppy. Breeding Labradoodles takes more than just mating two dogs and hoping for the best. It requires lots of research, time, and money to raise the healthiest litters possible. Unfortunately, the soaring demand for Doodles has also attracted Doodle scammers and puppy mills. The Humane Society conducts an extensive review of problematic breeders and puppy mills each year. Likewise, look for breeders who offer at least a two-year health guarantee for all their puppies. Typically, health warranties cover most or all genetic diseases that the parents have been tested for. For more on issues that can plague Labradoodles take a look at our article Doodle Health Issues and Diseases. Additionally, many reputable breeders are also recommended by Gooddog. To become a certified breeder by any of these organizations, the breeder must follow strict health and genetic testing standards, and follow ethical breeding protocols. All puppies are handled from the day they are born. The pups are exposed to children, everyday sounds, sights, and household experiences. What Makes This Breeder Unique? Bath time is with a human sitting in this large shower allowing plenty of space for your puppy too roam around and enjoy water in a nurturing experience. The puppies love it instead of being in a sink with a dry human just washing them. Water is actual playtime while they get clean and build positive experiences with being wet. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time.
