Meet Belle Our Beautiful Belle. Belle is a 6 year old fixed, vaccinated and healthy German Shepherd. She is loyal, loving and a very playful outdoor activity loving dog. She loves, and needs alot of physical activity and also really enjoys the water. Belle is looking for a home with no other animals or small children. Her home must be active and familiar with working breed dogs and their needs. She is used to daily walks and an active lifestyle and still has energy to burn! Belle was raised in a single animal home until this year when a human baby was welcomed. .The family is heartbroken but feels that Belle will be much happier without the antics of toddler aged children or infants. In her current home she has gone thru several basic obedience classes and is trained on an underground fence. She would do best with a normal fence and will not be able to be placed on a home with no fence due to her protective nature to neighboring animals. She is dog social but can be kind of a bossy lady to dogs her size. She would not be a dog that would do well at a dog park or 'free-range' group of dogs. She attends doggie day care for socialization and has since she was young. She would be happiest to live in a home with minimal dog interaction from surroundings and as the only animal. She would make the best companion to someone looking for a single dog to love! Belle aims to please and will be your very best friend. She is currently fostered in a home in Bay City. Anyone interested in meeting our adoptables must complete an online application, which is located on our website. This site is updated weekly so if an animal is listed they are available for adoption. Once the application is approved we will set up a meet and greet with the animal to ensure a good fit and then before adoption is complete we will schedule a home check to ensure a safe environment for the animal you are looking to adopt. If you live outside of the Tri-County area we will do our best to accommodate a home visit but it will rely on the availability and volunteers at that time. Practice this way a few times until the dog is reliably lifting their paw when you say "Paw. Once your dog is lifting their paw on command, you will want to take it to the next step. You should begin reward the dog only as they do something closer to your goal of shaking. For instance, if your dog lifts their paw higher than before, that gets a "Yes! Continue in this way until the dog is offering their paw. Use this additional step only if your dog doesn't seem to paw at the treat in your hand. By picking up your dogs paw, and praising them during and after, you start to show your dog that pawing at your hand is rewarded. Be gentle and move slowly. Your dog will be offering you its paw the moment you give the command before you know it. Phase out the Treat Once your dog is offering its paw on command, you can begin phasing out the need to hold the treat in your closed hand. Start with your hand closed over the treat, and give your dog the command "shake. Repeat this several times. Switch Treat Hands Next, put out your hand without holding the treat inside and give the command "shake. Practice this step over several training sessions. If your dog seems confused at any point, go back a step or two in your training. Eliminate the Treat Now you are ready to phase out the treat almost entirely. Begin by offering a treat less frequently, first by giving your dog a treat after every other time it offers a paw on command. Slowly decrease the number of times your dog gets a treat. Soon your dog will be offering the paw on command, and you will only need to give an occasional dog treat to reinforce the behavior. Problems and Proofing Behavior One common problem is the dog who doesn't put its paw on your hand, no matter how long you try to entice it with the treat. In this instance, move the hand holding the treat closer to your dog's paw. You can even give the leg or paw a little nudge. As soon as the dog raises its paw to your hand, give it the treat and say "good" or click. If your dog still doesn't understand what is expected of it after you nudge the paw, you can try lifting the paw into your hand yourself. Give the command "shake," reach down and pick up the paw, and then tell the dog "good" or click your clicker and offer the treat. Repeat this quickly several times in a row, giving the dog a treat each time, and then go back and start from the first step above. Most dogs will now understand what is expected and begin to offer their paw. Remember to be patient and keep training sessions short. If your dog becomes frustrated or bored, it's time to finish up the session. Always try to end on a positive note, even if it means asking your dog to do something simple, like sit. When your dog is regularly shaking with you, it's time to proof the behavior. The best way to do this is to have another person ask your dog to shake. The more familiar your dog is with the person, the easier it will be. Demonstrate your approach with your dog first, so the person can mimic you as closely as possible. Then, let that person sit the dog down and ask for a shake. Try this with a few people and your dog will understand that people love to shake paws! This is old "dead" hair that gets replaced by new hair. Instead of shedding, this old hair needs to be removed by brushing it regularly. One can compare it to hairloss in people. All Labradoodles loose their old hair at least once in their life; between the age of 8 and 14 months all puppyhair is replaced by adult hair. The puppyhair needs to be brushed out thoroughly. Some people prefer their puppies to be shaved or trimmed very short at this point in time. When this is all over, it suffices to brush the dog twice a month. The Australian Labradoodle can have two types of coat; - the wool coat. This coat resembles the poodle coat with a slightly less tight curl. A labradoodle with a woolcoat can be trimmed or shaved. This coat is wavy and requires less maintenance. However, it can be trimmed if so desired, but it is not really necessary. In new generations an occasional relapse sometimes occurs in the non shedding property of the Labradoodle coat. These dogs then do shed and will never be used as breeding dogs. Needless to say, our aim is to continue to refine and perfect the breed. Colour The Australian Labradoodle comes in many different colours. Although the Labradoodle is supposed to be of one solid colour all over, it sometimes happens that paws are of a lighter shade. History In a blind woman was looking for an assistance dog that would not aggravate her husbands allergies. In Australia a poodle and a labrador were crossed for this purpose, in order to combine the best properties of each breed.
