Silver beige White Apricot - This and red were two of the last colors recorded for this breed; so they are the newest and quite interesting. An apricot can produce a red. Some apricot Poodles are so light that they appear to be cream, however you will notice a red tint to the hair. A true apricot poodle will have some points or black spots on their skin. Liver points are acceptable but not preferred in the U. All blue Poodles are born black and then "clear" lighten as the pup grows. This often happens within the first year but this change can take place as late as 2 years in some cases. For this reason, many blue Poodles are registered as black. The outer coat of a blue poodle is usually as dark as that of a black, but hairs at the root is a mix of colors. The amount of each color depends on the age of the dog. In middle-aged dogs, medium brown predominates. True blue Poodles will have black points and dark brown eyes. Brown - A brown Poodle is a deep, dark color and in no way can be confused with Cafe Au lait which is much lighter. Pure brown Poodles must have liver points and dark amber eyes. Brown is created by the bb gene, as opposed to the BB gene of black Poodles, and therefore will have no black pigment anywhere on the body, including the eyes and nose. Cafe Au lait - This is a shiny light tan color and some confused this with silver beige. It is not uncommon for the pup to be born brown and 'clear' to this color. A Cafe Au lait should have liver points and dark amber eyes. Black - A true black Poodle is a deep ink black. The dog's coat will have zero blue or silver tinting and not have any white or silver guard hairs. The face when shaved will be deep black, as well. A true black will not "clear" or "fade". Blacks will have black points and dark brown eyes. See More: Black Poodles. Silver Beige - This is a diluted brown, therefore a true silver beige Poodle is born brown. By 6 weeks, silver beige will appear on the face and paws with a full coat change by the age of 2 years. The dog will have liver points and dark amber eyes. Red - This only became an official color in and now many breeders in Canada have come together to form the Apricot Red Poodle Club. A true red will have black points. Read about the fascinating history of reds here: Red Poodles. Silver - A true silver Poodle is born black and "clears" by the age of 2. However, you will know a true silver by the age of 6 weeks, when the face and paws "clear" and the rest of the coat will follow in suit over the next year or two. Silvers will have black points and dark brown eyes. This color is a diluted gray, caused by the silver allele V gene. White - Most white Poodles are a pure, snow white. However, some breeders will dub a white tinted with apricot or beige as being white. A bit of black spotting is acceptable on a white, however there should never be any ticking in the white. The ticking gene is a totally separate gene that makes the coat appear dirty. Gray - While a Poodle can be born gray and stay gray, it is also not uncommon for a black Poodle to turn gray at the age of years old. Cream - These Poodles will have black points; you'll know that a Poodle is cream and not Silver Beige or Cafe au Lait if his nose is black. It is the Cch gene which causes an otherwise brown Poodle to be cream. Color Changes When a Poodle puppy is a solid, one must understand that many variables can affect what will become the adult coat. When a pup keeps the same color coat, this is known as "holding". However, many Poodles 'clear'. To clear means when the coat fades or lightens to another color. A lightening of the coat does not necessarily occur evenly all over the coat, rather Poodle color will often hold more on the dog's ears and the thicker guard hairs. Cafe Au lait Poodles are born dark brown and change to cafe around the age of 2 yrs Blue Poodles are born black and change over by the age of 2 years Sliver Poodles are born black and change over by the age of 2 years Apricots are often born a dark shade that lightens by the age of 2 years Many owners can become confused as their Poodle takes on a completely different color as they grow. For example, a blue Poodle puppy could be misinterpreted as black, although a reputable breeder should be able to know the difference. If that puppy has parents with parti in the bloodline, as the coat clears during the first 2 years, other colors may appear and the once black looking puppy who was actually a blue parti becomes a parti with a wide array of possible colors. Fixing a Dull or Yellowing Coat It is common for a Poodle's coat to dull, become brassy or yellow as the dog matures. Sunlight, air pollution and constant bombardment of minuscule debris are at work here, in addition to the natural aging process cycling out a duller color than a Poodle once had. At all times, each hair strand is in 1 of the 3 phases: Growth, rest or release. Therefore, it is a gradual process.Owners may not notice a difference in the richness, depth and shine of the coat until the process has been going on for a while and enough hairs have grown in faded or dulled to make a drastic difference. The key to fixing and maintaining a beautiful color on a Poodle is to use a color enhancing shampoo. There are some great ones manufactured specifically for canines. In addition, while in general one does not want to use a human product on a puppy or dog, as long as the PH balance is correct, it most certainly can be used with excellent results. When a black, blue, or brown dog has the mutation in this gene, they gradually fade in color as they grow. Not all black, blue, or brown poodles have the mutation, but some do. You will begin to see the change in color starting at a months of age and it is usually complete by the time the dog is mature. In some dogs there may be small changes throughout the life of the dog. Skin Color Skin color can change as well. The most common reason for a Poodle to have a change of color on the skin is exposure to sunlight and this most commonly happens on the belly. It is not uncommon for a pink belly to have darker spots appear. An owner should be concerned if those darker spots are raised above the skin and should have the dog's veterinarian take a look at any raised, dark areas. Poodle Colors March 18, Poodles come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, to the point that the terminology can become quite bewildering. In this article, we shed some light, rather than hair, on the rainbow world of Poodle colors, exploring the most common coat hues and patterns before delving deeper into the weird yet wonderful world of ticked and parti Poodles. Table of Contents 12 Common Solid Colors of the Poodle Most Poodles, regardless of size, come in solid colors, some of which are more common than others. Although black Poodles are often overlooked in favor of lighter-colored puppies or rescues, they are no more aggressive or less intelligent than any other color Poodle. There is one slight health discrepancy, however, in that studies have found that black and other dark-colored Poodles are more susceptible to squamous cell carcinoma of the digit SCDD than other lighter-colored dogs. Due to their poor visibility at night, these dogs should always wear an LED collar when getting walked in the dark. Some may take a year to develop the blue tinge to their coats, while others hang onto the vestiges of their puppyhood black for 24 months. A quick examination of their paws may also reveal some silver or white hairs between the pads. As a blue Poodle puppy ages, so its color clears, becoming almost gun-metal grey. Some shading is acceptable in blue Poodles, but to be true to the breed standard, they should, like the black Poodle, have black noses, dark eyes, and black toenails. Silver Another diluted version of the black Poodle, like the blues, silvers are born black but will start to clear much earlier. By the time they reach six weeks, silver hues will be apparent around the face and paws, with the rest of the coat following suit over the next year or so. Silver is recessive color, making it more difficult to breed for, and silver puppies are only really guaranteed if both parents are also silver Poodles. This process is caused by the Progressive Graying gene which is found in some black, blue, and brown Poodles. Although some Poodles are born gray and remain that way throughout their lives, others will start to change color at around two or three months of age, gradually fading as they mature. Regardless of how the gray coat is produced this color is recognized by the AKC. Like the black, blue, and silver Poodles, gray dogs should also have black noses and nails and dark-colored eyes. Cream Cream is one of several off-white colorations found in all sizes of Poodle, and distinguishing one from another can be challenging. A cream Poodle is fairly easy to identify as it is one of the few light-colored Poodles that have black rather than liver-colored noses. Establishing whether a Poodle is white or cream is more difficult as both have black points and a pale cream, in certain lights, may appear white. Experts will no doubt dismiss this confusion as pure ignorance as the two are very different. While white indicates the complete absence of color, the cream is a very diluted brown, not far from apricot. Indeed, many cream-colored Poodles are born light or even medium brown and then clear as they mature. White White is one of the most popular and most common colors for Poodles. Despite being white, a white Poodle belongs to the black hair type and therefore has a black nose, nails, and eye-rims, as well as dark-colored eyes, giving it a striking appearance. In the past, a white Poodle with pink toenails or a patch of pink skin would still have succeeded in the show ring but, these days, the AKC insists on white Poodles with black extremities only. This color needs to be washed with a special shampoo for Poodles often to stay bright and clean. Both the Toy and the Miniature Poodle carry this trait, however, and it does appear to affect those with white pigmentation more than other colors. Brown Once lumped together with Red Poodles, brown Poodles should ideally be the color of dark mahogany or a rich walnut brown, as opposed to chestnut. Nevertheless, brown Poodles boast more color variations and a wider range of hues than almost any of the other colors. Most brown Poodles are born dark and then fade as they mature, producing stunning shades of cinnamon brown and coffee. One of the biggest problems facing the brown Poodle is its tendency to have very pale yellow, almost green eyes. This is an undesirable trait in the show ring but difficult to eliminate in breeding. The most sought-after brown Poodles have amber-colored eyes, a liver nose, and dark toenails, as per the breed standard. Rufus is a recessive allele, which is perhaps why red Poodles are so rare. Red Poodles are particularly prone to color change, with some fading as they age and others darkening. Apricot Like red, apricot is a relatively new color for Poodles, having only been accepted into the breed standard comparatively recently. The first apricot-colored Standard Poodle was born in but categorized as liver at the time. Since then, apricot Poodles have won a variety of prestigious awards, and their popularity has continued. Last year, world-famous Lionel Messi welcomed an apricot Toy Poodle named Abu into his family, adding a splash of color and cuteness to the Messi tribe. Although Poodles of this color may look similar to red ones, the cafe au lait hue is closer to silver than red. Silver Beige Unlike cafe au lait, silver beige is a diluted shade of brown, and most silver beige Poodles are born brown, clearing around their face and paws within the first six weeks of life. Silver beige is much more popular than cafe au lait, but the two are frequently confused. While cafe au lait puppies are usually born that color, silver beige Poodles are born brown and subsequently fade to silver beige. Parti Poodles Parti Poodles have large amounts of white on their body. This can be mixed with any of the regular colors: red, black, brown etc. These dogs are highly sought-after. You will probably have to look for a bit in order to find the Parti Poodle of your dreams! This is produced by a specific gene and can even be seen in pure white Poodles that, if they have the ticking gene, will appear dirty. More of a marking than a color in its own right, it can be difficult to spot the spots on a Poodle puppy. More commonly found on parti Poodles than solid colors, ticking becomes increasingly obvious as the puppy matures. While the United Kennel Club sees ticking as an acceptable trait in a Poodle, the AKC disqualifies such dogs from conformation classes, as it does parti Poodles. Some Poodle owners are convinced that certain colored dogs are cleverer than others. The idea behind this theory is that black and white Poodles were the original breed standard colors and have therefore been bred for temperament and intelligence, rather than color. You may indeed have a particularly intelligent white Poodle at some stage in your life, but you could equally have an Einstein-style Tuxedo Poodle. At the end of the day, Poodles are as varied as humans, and some are blessed with superior intelligence just as others are endowed with an especially friendly temperament. What is the Most Popular Poodle Color? Whites are common and much-loved for their regal appearance, while the black is easier to keep to clean, making it popular among more practical Poodle owners. Are Parti Poodles More Expensive? Do Poodles Have a Favorite Person? While most dog breeds adore whoever feeds them, Poodles are a little more particular, selecting their favorite human based on their personality, rather than their ability to provide care and sustenance. The Bottom Line The world of Poodles is full of color and variety. While traditionalists may prefer to stick with the standard breed colors, those drawn to the exotic may find the parti Poodles more attractive. An ancient breed dating back to the 15th or possibly even 14th century, it seems unlikely the Poodle will ever lose its popularity. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time. Questions about Pug puppies for sale in New York? We have answers. With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. At Frenchie Kisses Kennel we keep a close watch on the dogs as we wander about and if they seem a bit tired we simply return them to our air conditioned or heated in the winter home. Luckily the weather here in Washington State does not have horrible extremes so air conditioning and a good wood stove keeps their life very comfortable. French Bulldogs overheat easily because of their overly large chest and compacted air way, along with their insistence on being active. Their bulk and being Brachycephalic makes it impossible for them to regulate their temperature efficiently. In addition, Frenchies are top heavy and therefore have a difficult time swimming. We are very cautious when exercising them during hot or humid weather, and at times must insist they take a break. Though they tend to love the water, they must not be left alone in water as they may not be able to get out after exhausting themselves trying to swim. French Bulldogs are known as non swimmers. That's not to say that they are dogs of little brain. It's more like their "can do," can't keep up with their "want to. We love that the dogs want to be with us, very close by when we are walking around on the property. Washington is Cougar country and we would not want them to wander far so we do keep a close watch on them when we have them out. They all tend to get along with the cats and we are working hard to convince them that all animals are our friends. Since the Frenchies are so rambunctious it is hard to convince all of our pets that they are sweet, friendly dogs. I have my mind set that all my pets are going to get along and I am hoping that my will is stronger than a Bulldog! The puppies are exposed to the cats at a young age to instill a respect for other animals. Our cats are everywhere we now have five the puppies can have access to. We also have volunteer feral cats, that we are pretty sure come from a catch and release program in our area as they just appear with ears notched and previously spayed or neutered. The puppies only meet one of them He has become an outside pet only does not like to be confined kitty and occasionally comes to the door to see what is going on. He is friendly with the dogs and puppies. Three of our cats are both indoors and outdoors so the puppies learn early on that cats are their friends. We now have three Chickens that wander the property during the day. We hope to also use them to condition the puppies to being comfortable with birds. This makes for very sweet gentle puppies as they mature. We are also able to care for them individually if they become sick and give them excellent medical attention. We have a wonderful vet who has taught us how to do much of the necessary medical care at home since we are 45 minutes from any Veterinarian. Sometimes without the training he has provided us we would lose puppies due to no access to immediate care. We can and do give mouth to mouth resuscitation if needed. We will do anything necessary to save a puppy or dog. We love them for the wonderful little family additions that they are. We now offer training packages for our puppies: Child Tolerance. We have answers. What's the most interesting thing about French Bulldog puppies for sale near Vancouver? French Bulldogs are incredibly charming canines that originated in 19th-century England by crossing Bulldogs with terriers. Not only are they great companions, and their outsized personalities, but what makes them the most interesting is their unique appearance. One of the most iconic features of French Bulldogs is their large, bat-like ears. They also have short, stocky bodies with long tails that curl over their backs. They come in a range of colors, like brindle, fawn, and tan, and their signature muzzle and bulging eyes make for an adorable and unique face. Are French Bulldog puppies for sale in Vancouver hypoallergenic? French Bulldogs are not considered hypoallergenic, meaning people with pet allergies might still have a reaction to them. That said, they still may have less impact on certain allergy sufferers due to their short, single-layer coats, that have less dander than furs of other breeds. French Bulldogs also have short snouts and do not shed much, which could make them a more viable option for those with mild allergies. Ultimately, while French Bulldogs may be less likely to induce an allergic reaction, it is not guaranteed as every individual's sensitivities will differ. Do Vancouver French Bulldog puppies for sale have special dietary needs? French Bulldogs definitely have special dietary needs compared to other breeds. For starters, they normally require smaller and more frequent meals throughout the day. Additionally, they can be particularly sensitive to certain foods, and so their diet should be tailored to suit them. It's important to avoid excessive carbohydrates as those can lead to digestive discomfort. How can I become the best puppy parent for French Bulldog puppies in Vancouver? To be the best puppy parent possible for your French Bulldog, you will need to provide them with lots of love and affection, regular exercise, proper nutrition, and timely vet visits. Additionally, providing them with training and socialization can set them up for success during their time in your home. Regular walks are important to keep them physically and mentally healthy, as they need mental stimulation. Playtime and toys that suit their size and breed can keep them busy and happy. Finally, an understanding of grooming needs is essential to keep them healthy and comfortable. How fast do French Bulldogs for sale in Vancouver grow? French Bulldog puppies are generally quite small, reaching a mature size of roughly inches, and weighing in at around pounds. The exact size of your pup will depend on a variety of factors, such as diet, activity level, genetics, and gender. Your pup's size as an adult can be an educated guess from its size as a puppy but will not be exact. It is always best to provide your puppy with a good amount of exercise and a balanced diet to ensure that you have a healthy pet. Are French Bulldog puppies near Vancouver active dogs? French Bulldogs can certainly be an active breed, but there are a few things to keep in mind. French Bulldogs can become easily winded due to their short snouts, meaning they may not be able to go on very long runs or hikes. However, they can still enjoy shorter walks with plenty of sniffing and calming stops in between. French Bulldogs are also known for their silly antics and love of a game of fetch in the backyard. When kept active, they are typically well-behaved and content within the home. Are French Bulldogs in Vancouver good with kids? French Bulldogs can be great companions for kids. Their gentle, loving, and goofy personalities make them an ideal match for children. With parents' supervision and some basic obedience training, French Bulldogs can make loyal and loving friends for the little ones. They have an uncanny ability to sense the mood of the people around them and respond with cuddles and loyalty. Plus, their short muzzle and dense coat make them low-maintenance and a fun, cartoon-like companion. How many minutes per day do I need to train Vancouver French Bulldogs for sale? It is important to provide mental and physical stimulation for French Bulldogs in order to maintain their overall health and happiness. The amount of time required for these activities is highly dependent on the individual dog's needs and the activity being done. Generally speaking, an hour of training or structured exercise should be sufficient for most French Bulldogs each day, but as little as thirty minutes per day may be appropriate for some. It is important for pet owners to be mindful of their pup's energy levels to ensure that the dog does not become overworked.

We rescue abandoned, homeless and neglected Labradors from all over central California and beyond. We wish to end suffering and promote the welfare of labs and lab mixes through direct action and education. We provide each dog with a stable environment, love, companionship, food and veterinary care until a qualified, loving forever home is found. Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno believes that all companion animals should be treated with dignity, compassion and kindness. LRRF is supported entirely by our dog loving community. We fix broken bones and provide all needed medical care for the dogs who come into our rescue. We take in senior and special needs Labs. As a direct result of the number of dogs coming into rescue, our resources are severely strained. Through the generous hearts and hands of people like you, we can ensure that the animals who come into our care will never again be alone, hungry, sick, afraid or in pain. Please consider a one time or monthly donation to help us with caring for these dogs. Your donation is tax deductible and greatly appreciated. Donations can be made via our Paypal button below. Box , Clovis, CA .The puppies are picked up at 8 weeks old and go to their forever family to be trained and live with you for life. Once puppies are weaned the female is then returned to their Guardian family. We feel this will allow for the best care of the girls as they will be one on one with their forever families right from the get go instead of being replaced once they are retired from breeding. A Free puppy adopted through our breeder program is just that, a free lab retriever. In addition, there is compensation for travel to us to return her along with us paying for spaying after she has had her litters. On occasion we run into someone objecting to this program and they recommend that people visit their local shelter to adopt a puppy for free. These puppies need rehoming and we would want to get them into a home as much as the next person. The need for breeding however is still there because not all free shelter dogs have the intelligence to act as a service dog. Something as simple as a shelter dog not being screened for a genetic heart or eye issue may result in a lot of wasted training. If a dog lives for 10 to 12 years, and the shelter dog is 5 years old , training takes a year at least for suitable candidates, then the service can only work until about 8 to 10 years old until they begin to slow down. So, instead of the dog helping their handler for 8 or 9 years, all that training is put in to the dog for just a couple years. Normally this is a cost most people will not incur for such a short time. Read more on this here. You must live within an hour and a half or so or be willing to make the drive to participate in this program. People from Essex county and Windsor, Chatham Kent, Sarnia, London and Elgin county are the best candidates to partner with us and adopt a puppy for free, but living in one of those locations is not mandatory. If you are interested in our free puppy adoption program please specify so when applying as outlined on our contact us page and we will interview you for more information. Space in this program is very limited but also very rewarding as you will be helping us place a Lab puppy into the hands of a veteran or first responder to help them with their daily duties. Ownership is retained by Lucky Labs until the dog is finished breeding even though she will live with her guardian family. Around the age of three-four the mother is retired from breeding and we will pay to have the ownership transferred along with paying an agreed upon amount for the dog to be spayed. We make the first pick of a litter choosing the smartest female to mate in the future. Sometimes there may be two puppies that are equally intelligent, if so you can pick from the two. Either way you get the pick of the litter. You take your puppy home, administer veterinarian care as you would normally getting your Lab vaccinations at the proper times. You keep us informed of vaccinations and if your female comes into heat. Once she is old enough to breed we facilitate that. She is home with you for most of the year only being away to mate with our male for a few days, and to have her puppies. After the first mating we will evaluate the quality of the puppies she made. If they do not meet or are not above our standards to be trained as a service dog we may decide to spay her and sign her over to you. We may also try her with a different male if we feel the characteristics of the different male might make the puppies of a higher quality. In short, if her puppies are exceptional she may have up to 4 litters so we are able to donate the highest quality puppies available to our veterans and first responders. If her puppies are not we may instruct you to spay her and cover the cost. If you feel you can provide an excellent home for one of our best girl puppies, and you would like to contribute to our veterans, police officers, nurses, fire fighters and medics while caring for one of the best breeds of dogs going, then please apply below. People looking for a puppy to adopt can get the highest quality Lab puppy available in Ontario. We appreciate your help and dedication to helping out. Think you would be an Amazing Guardian of one of our dogs?

They also happen to be multigenerational goldendoodles, likely to come in between lbs when fully grown. The Doodle Dynasty encourages those interested in these puppies to start doing their research now if they have not already. Goldendoodles make amazing, loving pets, and the breeder wishes to ensure that all their puppies go to great homes that deserve to have them. Fortunately, it is almost as easy to care for them as it is to fall in love with their furry faces at first sight. As a family-run breeder in Santa Clarita, The Doodle Dynasty has a great deal of personal experience with these dogs, and they understand why Goldendoodles are in such high demand — particularly among families. In fact, they encourage everyone in their community to spend a day or two in the company of a Goldendoodle if possible if they are unfamiliar with the breed, as this is more than enough time to learn why their owners love them so much. Alternatively, looking up videos from owners who like to share an inside look at life with a Goldendoodle or Goldendoodles can help, but the breeder says there is no true substitute for one-on-one time with these dogs. This is recommended if anyone is looking for Goldendoodle puppies for sale and knows relatively little about the breed. Both parent breeds have amazing qualities to pass on to their offspring. Perfect for experienced dog owners and new pet parents alike. You will have quite a difficult time finding a more lovable companion. These are not just pups, these are show dog-like family dogs with beautiful coats and strong wills. However, The Doodle Dynasty says a large yard is not necessary if the owners are able to take their Goldendoodle on walks frequently enough. Exercise is extremely important for these dogs. Several factors make them excellent pets, and among the most prominent of these is their loving and intelligent nature. The breeder says they can actually be somewhat possessive, so a family with several dogs may have to watch how they distribute their attention among their furry family members to make sure they all feel loved. While the dogs are not known for being violent, the breeder says they should not be left unsupervised around small children. Their sheer playfulness can mean a toddler would get knocked down easily if left unattended. Instagram page. You will be bathed in love and attention as nothing is more important to a goldendoodle than to be loving on their owners. You can also expect a lot of attention from people in general as they are quick to stop you during your walks as they praise your dog and ask you all kinds of questions about him or her. As spots are limited, all interested should contact the breeder today to express their interest in having their very own Goldendoodle family member. Are you searching for the perfect furry companion? They have strong jaws, and are the number one breed used for search and rescue and service dogs. Are Labrador Retriever puppies for sale in Santa Clarita hypoallergenic? Labrador Retrievers are not hypoallergenic, as they have a double coat of hair which traps allergens. Hypoallergenic breeds are often single coated with short or curly fur which produces less allergen exposure. Even though Labradors are a popular breed, people with allergies should be aware that they may still suffer from symptoms associated with exposure to the breeds' fur or dander. Additionally, Labradors need regular grooming to help prevent and remove the allergens they produce. What do Santa Clarita Labrador Retriever puppies for sale eat? Labrador Retrievers are usually very active and energetic dogs, so they require a lot of food to generate energy and maintain a healthy weight. With that in mind, most Labrador Retrievers are best fed high-quality dry dog food, which is usually made up of a mix of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients. Additionally, it is important to give your Labrador Retriever a variety of different foods to make sure that they are getting all the necessary nutrients. Fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats can also occasionally be given as treats and snacks. Preparing your home for a new Labrador Retriever can be both an exciting and overwhelming experience. To ensure a smooth transition, start by dog-proofing your living space. Hide or rubber band wires, secure breakables, and block off hazardous areas such as stairs and pools. It's also important to have all the necessary supplies like high-quality food, water and food bowls, a tie-out or fence, chew toys, a bed, and even blankets that you don't mind washing frequently. How fast do Labrador Retrievers for sale in Santa Clarita grow? Labrador Retriever puppies typically grow to be an adult size of inches tall at the shoulder and pounds. However, their size at adulthood can vary significantly depending on factors such as overall health, genetics, and the quality of care they receive while growing up. Generally speaking, a good dietary program, plenty of exercise, and maintaining the Labrador Retriever's ideal weight can promote their ideal growth. It is important to be mindful of proper nutrition during the puppy's growing years, as malnourishment can dramatically affect their growth size. The amount of exercise your Labrador Retriever needs can vary greatly depending on age, size, and activity level. So, where can you find reputable Goldendoodle breeders in Virginia and what are the key things to look for? Some offer Standard Goldendoodles while others specialize in smaller, Mini Goldendoodle pups. Unfortunately, Doodle scammers and puppy mills also want their piece of the pie while resorting to unethical breeding practices and borderline torturing the animals. So, how can you avoid supporting a puppy mill and what should you look for in a responsible Goldendoodle breeder in Virginia? Why is that important? Because extensive health testing helps breeders screen the parent dogs for any hereditary diseases, which can be carried onto the puppies. Not only will it cost you a ton of money in the long run, unhealthy puppies with genetic conditions often struggle with pain and severe discomfort throughout their lives. In addition to rigorous health testing, you want to double-check if a breeder provides a health warranty for their puppies. Most commonly, breeders offer a two-year health guarantee for genetic conditions. Keep in mind that even scammers and puppy mills often claim to hold certifications with the organizations we mentioned above. Please be aware of this and always check back with the organizations, as their member breeders are often publicly posted on their websites. Many Goldendoodle breeders in Virginia have customer testimonials posted on their website, but we urge you to do some more digging on online communities like Reddit, Yelp, Facebook , or here at Doodle Doods. View Larger Image How long do Goldendoodles live? Goldendoodles have quickly become one of the most popular breeds in recent years. These lovable and friendly dogs are a hybrid cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, combining the intelligence and hypoallergenic qualities of a Poodle with the friendly and loyal nature of a Golden Retriever. Some people refer to Goldendoodles as teddy bear Goldendoodles. This is because they resemble the cuddly stuffed toys many of us had when we were young. Genetics, Activity, and Health of your Golden Doodle While genetics can play a role in the lifespan of a Goldendoodle, there are other factors to consider as well. Proper nutrition, exercise, and regular veterinary check-ups are all essential for ensuring that your dog ends up living longer than ever with new technology. Standard Goldendoodles are a relatively active breed and require regular exercise to maintain their health and happiness. Daily walks, runs, or playtime in a fenced yard can help keep them physically fit and mentally stimulated. A well-balanced diet that includes high-quality protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates can help keep your dog in good health. Avoid feeding your dog table scraps or foods that are high in fat or sugar, as these can contribute to obesity and other health issues. Your vet can perform routine screenings, such as bloodwork and dental exams, to catch any health issues early and provide treatment before they become more serious. If your dog is provided good care and you and your vet check for any possible issues, most standard-size Goldendoodles can live up to 12 years, and some even up to 15 years! Smaller dogs will likely live longer and the record at Fox Creek Farm is 18 years. Some of the most common health issues in Goldendoodles include hip dysplasia, eye problems, and allergies. We typically see more health issues with dogs bred without proper parental genetic testing. Buying a Goldendoodle puppy from parents that have been tested genetically can be more expensive, but it is a wise investment as it can lead to fewer veterinary costs in the long run. Hip dysplasia is a genetic condition that can lead to joint pain and mobility issues. This condition is more common in large breeds, including Golden Retrievers and Poodles, which are the parent breeds of Goldendoodles. Regular exercise, proper nutrition, and maintaining a healthy weight can help reduce the risk of hip dysplasia in your dog. Even more important, all parent dogs should be screened to determine they are free and clear of hip dysplasia before reproducing. Eye problems are also common in Goldendoodles, particularly progressive retinal atrophy PRA and cataracts. PRA is a genetic condition that can lead to blindness over time, while cataracts can cause cloudiness or opacity in the lens of the eye. Regular eye exams can help catch the onset of cataracts early and surgery may be necessary in some cases. PRA can be avoided completely simply by having all parent dogs screened to determine if they carry any PRA genes and if so, are bred to avoid pairing two carriers together. Allergies are another common health issue in Goldendoodles. They may be allergic to certain foods, environmental allergens, or flea bites. Symptoms of allergies can include itching, redness, reoccurring ear infections, and skin irritation. Holistic remedies can be very successful which helps avoid the use of pharmaceuticals. An ethical breeder will perform genetic testing on their breeding stock, provide documentation of health clearances, and offer a health guarantee for their puppies. They will also be happy to answer any questions you have about the breed and provide support throughout the life of your dog. If you are not set on getting a puppy, consider adopting from a rescue Goldendoodle organization or shelter. Adopting a Goldendoodle is a wonderful way to provide a loving home to a dog in need and can be a great option for those who may not have the time or resources to raise a puppy. Keep in mind that dogs you find in shelters most times do not come from reputable breeders and health screening protocols on its parents were likely not performed. If health and longevity are important to you, the unknowns that come with a shelter dog may play into your decision of whether or not to adopt from a rescue. Many times adult dogs are available from breeders who have retired them from breeding and may be a good option for those wishing to avoid the puppy stage. Genetic Testing Genetic testing is crucial to ensure you are informed about what traits your Goldendoodle will possess. Goldendoodles can be extremely different and high genetic diversity provides for all sorts of variation in your Doodles from standard Goldendoodles to miniature and toy Goldendoodles. Genetic testing is the best way to find out what traits your Goldendoodle has that you are unable to see. It has become an essential tool for pet owners, breeders, and veterinarians alike. One of the most critical benefits of genetic testing is its ability to identify potential health risks in an animal. Through genetic testing, breeders and veterinarians can determine if an animal is a carrier of certain genetic diseases and take steps to prevent these conditions from developing. Genetic testing can also help to ensure that breeders are producing healthy and genetically diverse puppies. By using genetic testing to screen potential breeding pairs, breeders can avoid producing offspring with inherited diseases, reducing the risk of passing these conditions on to future generations. Furthermore, genetic testing can help to identify the ancestry of an animal, allowing breeders to better understand the genetic makeup of their breeding lines. This can help breeders to make informed decisions about which dogs to breed together, based on their ancestry and potential health risks. Overall, genetic testing is an essential tool for pet owners, breeders, and veterinarians. By identifying potential health risks and ensuring genetic diversity, genetic testing helps to ensure the well-being of animals and reduces the risk of inherited diseases. As genetic testing technology continues to evolve, it will become even more critical in helping to ensure the health and longevity of our furry companions. In dog breeding, some people refer to this as hybrid vigor and just one more reason that the Goldendoodle has become so popular. This is where genetic testing comes into play. By selecting parent breeds with favorable traits, breeders can create puppies that are more likely to inherit those traits. For example, Golden Retrievers are known for their friendly and sociable personalities, while Poodles are highly intelligent and hypoallergenic. The term hybrid vigor describes the idea that crossbreeding can result in offspring that are healthier and more robust than purebred dogs. By introducing genetic diversity into a breeding program, the likelihood of inheriting genetic disorders or health issues is reduced. The popularity of the Goldendoodle is in part due to this hybrid vigor. The food that a Goldendoodle eats has a significant impact on its health and longevity. On the other hand, a poor-quality diet can lead to obesity, nutrient deficiencies, and a host of health issues. Real meat should always be the first ingredient and checking the label to be sure there are no dyes, preservatives, GMOs, by-products, corn, gluten or soy will help identify quality kibble. While these furry companions have a friendly and affectionate disposition, just as any dog, they require an active lifestyle that includes regular exercise and attention to maintain their overall health and happiness. In summary, several factors can affect the lifespan of a Goldendoodle, including genetics, exercise, and overall health. However, two of the most critical factors are genetic testing and diet. By taking these factors into account, pet owners can help ensure their Goldendoodle lives a long, happy, and healthy life.

The Australian Labradoodle is different from all other labradoodles. Dogs from this cross typically were bred to each other over future generations, whereby the Australian dogs are also know as "Multi-generational" Labradoodles. The resulting labradoodles subsequently have been bred to each other, continuing the multi-generational tradition. Even when the other types of Labradoodles are bred on for generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle, as the attributes of the infused breeds were not included in their ancestry. The Australian Labradoodle Club of America was founded exclusively to foster and protect the original Australian Labradoodles that have come directly from Tegan Park and Rutland Manor breeding stock, or their offspring. Our mission is to maintain and improve the quality and soundness of the Australian Labradoodles, and to carefully monitor the further development of the breed. All member breeders are carefully screened to help ensure the future of the Australian Labradoodle. Our member breeders must breed to the highest standards. We have Breeder Mentors to assist member breeders and to help new breeders get off to a good start. He is 9 months old and loving and unique. He was tuned into us by his owner when their tiny ChiWeeny Chihuahua Doxy dog was mean to him and wanted to be an only child. The family loved and adored him, but realized he needed to be with dogs that wanted to play with him not try to beat him up like the tiny ChiWeeny was doing. Watson, of course, was scared of the "big mean Chi Weeny and ran away so you can guess that he is very sweet and non-aggressive in every way and is so happy to be here playing with all our big and even tiny dogs who love him. Now he is seeking a great home where he will be happy and safe and loved and cherished for life! Sherlock: Sherlock is a gorgeous 6 month old Wheaten fawn Irish Wolfhound Greyhound puppy who wound up in shelter with his brother Bond James Bond, that is! We rescued these two big babies who are adorable and loving and sweet to all. They are seeking the best homes where they will be loved and cherished and happy and safe for life! Bond: James Bond, that is! Bond is a gorgeous 6 month old Wheaten fawn Irish Wolfhound Greyhound puppy who wound up in shelter with his brother Sherlock. Buddy: Woodle - Incredible cream "Woodle" - Irish Wolfhound Poodle - Buddy's owners love and adore him, but he was much bigger than they are able to handle and a puppy, too. They were under the impression he would be a much smaller dog than he turned out to be as he is already big at one year old and will still likely grow upward until he is two years old and then fill out even more from two to four years old. Although they were hoping for a smaller dog, he is clearly in the right place with us where our adopters like them the bigger the better. Buddy is very friendly and outgoing and though very well behaved in general, he gets exuberant when he first greets you in the morning and when he first meets new people. For our breeds, we call this the "zoomies" and most of the young dogs of the breeds we rescue get it when they get excited. Buddy is a big baby who loves to play and makes no exceptions with whom he plays as he loves all people, kids, dogs, everyone! He looks like a smaller Irish wolfhound in his beautiful cream color and is really as beautiful and incredible as they get. He gives great "whiskery wolfhound kisses" and actually sits up on his hind paws to give you real hugs. No less than the best home on earth will do for this lover boy! Bentley: Woodle Schnoodle - Incredible black Irish Wolfhound Giant Schnauzer Poodle - Bentley's owners moved where they couldn't have a dog and brought him to a shelter. We rescued him on his last day. He is a loving, sweet, exuberant, big boy puppy. He gives great "whiskery" wolfhound kisses, loves to play, and is looking for the best home on earth where he will be happy and safe for life. Little Miss Muppet: Irish Wolfhound Mastiff - a 1 year old scared and shy puppy - Muppy was owned by a little old lady who loved her, but never introduced her to anyone or took her anywhere. As a result, she is experiencing total culture shock in that she was unaware that there were this many people in the world. She needs someone with extreme patience. She is great with all other dogs and cats and is fine with people, just scared of people. She lives here with us and all the other dogs and is housetrained and comes and goes just like the others, but does not come to us for pets, so we have to go to her. She does let us pet and love her, but may take a long time to act normally, though she always acts playful and happy with the other dogs. She needs to go to a home that has at least one other dog, and it would be better if they had multiple dogs so that she could be part of the group and not the total focus of attention. This is why people should always make sure that they continue to bring their dogs everywhere and introduce them to everyone to keep them outgoing and well socialized. With time and love and extreme patience, Muppie will be a great companion and has made great strides here. When she first arrived, we could not even touch her and she had to be separated, but now she has become a member of the household and lives like a normal little person with all the others. She has come a long way since arriving here, but still has a long way to go. These puppies will be alillte smaller than the wolfhounds and we have found with our three litters to date, their hair tends to be more wolfhound than poodle. But don't get us wrong, they still will be large dogs - some with heights from 16 to 33 inches at their withers for the males and for the females around 16 to 30 inches it depends on their parents. As an honest breeder, we are upfront with you, saying none of can really tell you at 8 or 9 weeks how tall or large your puppy will really be, we can look at their bones and at their parents. We are breeding them to extend their lifespan is the real reason this is even being done. As far as weight we are seeing around 85 to lbs for the males and 70 to for the females. Ollie, the proud papa, carries a blue eye gene so we are hoping that some day we will have one with blue eyes but so far none have had it, their eyes are usually dark brown to black but will look deep into your soul - these are humans in fur coats! Coat type - wolfhounds have a wiry top coat with a soft undercoat and as you know poodles have a curly coat - when you bathe your doodle, you will see the curl but we are seeing a soft cashmere puppy coat in most and a few with the wiry feel - don't think they don't shed , they do alittle but they love being brushed and the more you do this, the better! Hypoallergenic - some say that they are, we can't make that claim and be honest with you. Generations - F1s, etc - we breed only F1 Irish Wolfadoodles - meaning this F stands for "filial hybrid" a crossbred dog and then the numbers stand for the generations of breeding that has been done - we don't backcross which is called the B or BBs. Ours come from purebreed registered, genetically tested parents, both parents traits are in a ratio of .Lifespan - based on our research, by breeding these two breeds together, your puppy should could live up to 13 years. labrador puppy eating - At what age is a Poodle fully grown? Poodles are considered fully grown adults at two years old and tend to show emotional signs of maturity, like a calmer nature, around 18 months. At a year old, most Poodles will have reached their final height or very close to it. However, most Poodles will require a full two years to fill out their chest and reach their final weight. Image Source: Pexels How big should a 6-month-old Poodle be? A six-month-old male Poodle will weigh around 41 to 48 pounds, while a six-month-old female Poodle will weigh about 28 to 34 pounds. Both male and female Poodles at this age stand at around 18 to 22 inches tall, which for some Poodles is already their full adult height. Pro Tip: Check out this ultimate pet parent guide with 39 dog care tips on pet first aid kits, puppy-proofing practices, training, veterinary appointments, and more! How much bigger will my Poodle get? There are a few ways to assess how much bigger your Poodle will get. The first is age. If your Poodle is less than a year old, they still have significant growth left! If your Poodle is between one and two years old, they are likely still filling out a bit, but are probably at their adult height. Do they still look oversized next to their legs and body? If this is the case, they are probably still filling out as this is a classic puppy feature! A Poodle puppy will rarely grow larger than their bigger parent, so this will also give you an idea of their maximum size. What is the size of a full-grown Poodle? According to the American Kennel Club Official Poodle Standards , an adult male Poodle is 60 to 70 pounds while an adult female Poodle weighs between 40 and 50 pounds. By these standards, full-grown Poodles will be over 15 inches tall when measuring from the ground to the highest point of their shoulders while standing. Most Standard Poodles will stand between 18 and 24 inches tall. Smart lifestyle choices are essential in keeping your Poodle happy and healthy. The Veterinary Centers of America recommend a long walk, jog, or intense play to fulfill their daily exercise needs. Poodles were bred as retrievers and, as such, are keen on games involving retrieving like fetch. Many Poodles also enjoy swimming. Due to their full coats, Poodles can put on excess weight without their pet parents realizing it. Poodles are not overly prone to weight issues with a balanced diet, but their coat can disguise weight changes. Their full coats also require regular upkeep like brushing and combing every other day, professional grooming every six weeks or so, and watching for potential eye problems. Poodles are prone to weeping eyes and eye irritation from lashes or hair, so keeping their eye area free of long hair is ideal. As a purebred dog breed, Poodles are more susceptible to genetic health problems. Many of these genetic health problems can be screened for early on using DNA technology. These early screenings can help you and your veterinarian prevent and minimize health complications from these genetic diseases. A bove all else, regular veterinary care is the best way to make sure your Poodle stays healthy. Between health screenings, regular veterinary care, bloodwork, x-rays , dental cleanings , and more, your veterinarian is your best resource in caring for your precious Poodle puppy. Be aware, vet visits can quickly become expensive - especially when immediate treatment or surgery is needed for an emergency or illness. With many treatments and surgeries costing thousands of dollars, this can quickly put pet parents in a pinch should the worst happen to their pet. Poodles are larger dogs, which can also increase the price of treatment. This is where pet insurance comes in. Pet insurance reimburses you for out-of-pocket veterinary costs and provides a safety net should the worst happen to your Poodle. As purebred dogs, Poodles are more prone to genetic health problems, like bloat or hip dysplasia, which can quickly become expensive to treat. Their body temperature at birth is around 94 — 97 degrees. They are not able to regulate their own body temperature so they depend on their mother for warmth. They also cannot see or hear or eliminate on their own. They cannot walk. About all they can do is smell, suckle and crawl. They are totally dependent on their mother and the environment the first 2 to 3 weeks. They are mostly influenced by their mother and litter-mates during this period. We weigh the puppies everyday the first 2 to 3 weeks. Week Two: Poodle Puppies usually open their eyes around 8 to 10 days and their ears around 13 to 17 days. While sleeping all healthy and contented puppies will twitch. This is an activated sleep, characterized by muscle twitches. This is normal and healthy. Week Three: During the third week we will often see teeth start to erupt and the puppies will start to stand and walk around. Everyday is amazing to see these helpless puppies start to become independent. At this age their nervous system is more developed so that they can urinate and defecate by themselves. This is when the puppies will also start to play a little bit more with their litter-mates. This week is very important in the puppies emotional development. They will start not only the interaction with their litter-mates but also with their mother. We never start the weaning process during this week. While mother may come out of the whelping box during this week she will never be far. Week Four: At this age the puppies will be introduced to our own homemade puppy mush and their supplement which will help grow their immune systems. Puppies are born without an immune system and depends on their mother to supply this protection through her milk. Their body temperature will usually be around degree and they will be able to begin regulating their own body temperature. Every day they will eat more and more. The puppies will start to eat more food and move around more easily. They may even start to chase each other, bark, and bite. We still weigh them at least every other day if not every day. This is the time that the mother starts leaving the puppies at longer intervals of time and start to regulate their nursing. So this is a good time for us to introduce the puppies to the weaning box and start the weaning and potty box training. Week Five: Puppies start to establish some sort of dominance in the pack. Growth and development is rapid in this week. They become very aware of their surroundings and respond quickly to training. They begin to growl, play, challenge, and learn disciple from their mother. They also develop a bit of a competitive spirit. Training ability is developed and puppies are ready to begin learning. They also start to discover their toys and play with them more. Keeping them stimulated is important. Puppies can start to control their need to potty and now know they need to move away from the sleeping area. Good experience with people from week 5 — 7 will play a large roll in how they will continue to interact. Week Six: By this time it is amazing to see that little puppy wake up and walk over to the potty box to eliminate. Puppies enter their socialization period by the end of the third week. However, the most critical period — age six to eight weeks — is when puppies most easily learn to accept others as part of their family pack. The integrating of the human family is so important and will effect them for the rest of their life. The puppy brain waves look of an adult dog by about the 50th day, but he is not yet programmed — that is the job of the human trainer, and the job of his mom, siblings and other canine family members. This is when the fun begins for all humans and puppies. We know how important this time is for puppy to adjust to humans and how playtime stimulates their little brains to grow smart and wise. We introduce them to the outside. We bring in more interactive toys. We introduce them to the pool, weather permitting. If outside pool is out we use the grooming bath for water play. They also learn not to bite the human hand ever! It is at the 7th week, day 49, that we conduct the Volhard Test. This is actual one of several that will occur through its life. Instead of meeting new or familiar people and objects with curiosity puppies start to react with fearfulness. Anything that frightens them at this age may have a lasting impact. So take care that the baby is not overstimulated with to many changes or challenges at one time. This does not mean that your puppy will grow up to be a scared-y-cat; it is simply a normal part of development where puppies learn to be more cautious. Careful socialization during this period helps counter fear reactions. Because your puppy is actively working on social skills and is paying attention to both litter-mates and humans. Your puppy is learning at an extremely fast rate. This is why we will NOT hold any puppy beyond the 9th weeks. All puppies that cannot be picked up during puppy pickup week must enter their puppy into a training program. Weeks Thirteen — Sixteen: During this phase a puppy will attempt to challenge you for dominance. Here is where they test to see just how much they can get away with and test your level of tolerance. The more a puppy is allowed to get way with during this phase, may cause the dog to lose more and more respect for his owner. This may result in behavioral issues that can snowball if not corrected through training and obedience. Formal obedience should begin here. This will assist the dog in becoming the best he can be. This is the time your puppy will begin to understand and use ranking in terms of submission and dominance. Are you the owner going to be a good pack leader? Puppies will need to be taught what they can and cannot chew. Puppies need to be taught that it is never acceptable behavior to jump on a human, small or big. This is the time that the pack leader, the human in charge, especially needs to be confident, but firm with positive reinforcement. An obedient dog, a good canine citizen, is a pleasure to be with. A disobedient dog causes stress for all and can cause damage to things and other humans. What do I mean by that? The canine depends on a human, however, he is and his thinking is canine. He needs the human to communicate and set the standards for him. If the human does not then the dog will have no choice but set his own standards, doggy style. Be prepared to be a Good, very good, pack leader! Your puppy now understands that he has a pack which may consist of both humans and canine and his behavior will be most influenced by this group. You can expect your dog to challenge you more as he explores dominance and his role in the pack. Rather they are just working out what their rank is in the pack and what is expected of them in their position. Again: be a Good, very good, pack leader! Canines that are not spayed or neutered will also start exhibiting sexual behavior during this period. Be responsible and spay or neuter you canine. Some puppy owners hire a canine trainer to come to their home to teach them how to train. Some owners learn ahead of time what they need to do and immediately begin their puppy on this program. Still others have their puppy enter into our training program. We have much information on the website about training. And for our puppy buyer we are here whenever they need any coaching along the way. Be Consistent, Persistent and always have a Routine! In France, people are as likely to be carrying a poodle under their arm as a stick of French bread. Poodles can be seen eating in restaurants, visiting hairdressers and going virtually anywhere that their owner goes. In Ireland, poodles are a rare enough breed, and it can be difficult to find the right type of poodle puppy when you want one. The Poodle breed is available in three sizes. Each size of poodles is available in a range of colours, including blue, grey, silver, brown, cafe-au-lait, apricot and cream. They almost sound like scrumptious varieties of chocolate. The local family knew exactly what sort of dog they wanted: a female brown Miniature Poodle. They were unable to locate a puppy of this type in Ireland, but eventually they tracked one down near Manchester, in England. The puppy sounded perfect, but the only problem was how to bring her home. They decided that the only realistic option was to drive over to Manchester to pick up the puppy directly. They bought a large wire cage that could fold flat, but when erected, fitted snugly into the rear of her estate car. They bought a plastic bed, and soft bedding and they even purchased special non-spill water and food bowls for the puppy to eat and drink in transit. But they were still worried. The puppy would never have been away from its mother and its home environment. How would it cope with a ten hour journey in a car? It would be a highly stressful time for the poor creature. They came to me to ask for advice before they left. What else could they do? Would sedatives help? I explained that sedatives are not always the best answer. To travel in comfort, animals need to have their wits about them. They need to be able to react if there is a sudden jerky movement of the vehicle, such the car braking. Many vets now recommend that sedation should be avoided during journeys, unless an animal becomes hysterically upset. I suggested an alternative answer: a product known as Dog Appeasement Pheromone, sold as Adaptil. This is a man-made scent, which is completely odourless to humans, but which carries a strong message for animals. This is produced by lactating females from their mammary gland area, when they are being suckled by their young. The natural function of this scent is to comfort the offspring. The pheromones calm puppies at the earliest stage of their lives. It seems to provide reassurance at times of stress, particularly in unknown environments and when encountering novel experiences. Adaptil is available in a formulation similar to human perfume, in a ceramic jar with a spray top. Owners are encouraged to spray the pheromone around the dog in any environment that may be stressful to the animal. The puppy owners-to-be took a bottle of Adaptil, and headed off to Manchester. The puppy, soon christened Coco, seemed calm and quiet, but they still worried about how he would be in the car. They sprayed the Adaptil everywhere inside the car: in the basket, on the bedding, around the cage, and even on the car upholstery. They then put Coco in his basket, with a small chew toy. Little Coco looked small and wide-eyed as they drove away from the only world the puppy had ever known. But she soon settled down in her bed, enjoying her chew-toy, and then quietly falling asleep. They stopped several times to allow her out for a walk during the journey, and each time, she happily jumped back into her basket. She did not seem stressed at all. Coco has continued to sleep in her basket inside the wire cage — she now sees it as her own territory, and it is kept in the utility room in the family home. Two weeks on, Coco seems as well balanced a puppy as any. The journey from Manchester caused no problems at all. Was it due to the Adaptil or would she have been OK anyway?
