Our vet recommends they start Heartguard at weeks old and that they take Heartguard once a month. When do you recommend starting flea and tick prevention? I personally do not like to treat my dogs for fleas and ticks unless we see a flea or tick, which has been rare over the years. That being said, I do keep a dose of Frontline around in the spring and summer months so that if we see anything, we can treat quickly. I do not like any of the chewable flea and tick preventives with the exception of Bravecto. We did have a tick outbreak about 5 years ago and no organic options were working. It became dangerous not to do an oral treatment due to tick-born illnesses. The reason I find Bravecto acceptable is because it has been tested on gestating and lactating females and found to be safe. Again, I would use Frontline only if I saw a flea or tick and then if I had a problem with ticks, I would use Bravecto for treatment because of the testing for safety by the company. Make sure your Frenchie goes to the toilet first To really help minimize your French bulldog crying in his crate, make sure their bladder is as empty as possible before sleep time. However, with puppies, they will need the toilet constantly, and I remember this time with our Frenchie very well. Every hour I would take him out of the crate at night and take into our back-yard patio area. You can still expect some accidents though, which is why puppy pads are so essential. Again, you can buy puppy pads on Amazon — they are cheap when bought in bulk. Tire your Frenchie puppy out before crate time An over-excited puppy will not sleep and will cry more in his crate at night if he still has excess energy to burn. Frenchie puppies can tire really quickly, so it could just be a short walk out back or a game of tug of war. Older dogs will have more energy to burn, so give them a run out for 20 minutes before crate time. If you go to the crate every time he cries or whines, you are just reinforcing the behavior, and making him know you will always come and let him out. We are told that this owner is not the sort of person that would humanely dispose of any animal. Do you recognise this poor dog? This is Jack's replacement. This dog will have an appalling life, this man does not care about any of his animals. Horses this man normally has tethered up all day on Council land without water. This guy laughs at anyone that goes near the place and gives them verbal abuse. This is where the animals are kept. This is a derelict piece of wasteland not owned by this person. Over winter puppies were kept locked in unheated old sheds in minus 12 degrees. We never found out what happened to the puppies that were kept in these freezing outbuildings. One day they just weren't there anymore. Happy to abuse the horses as well. Horses were kept in this confined area with no evidence of food, no shelter and only a bucket of frozen water. Do you know who this dog belonged to? This dog must once have been someone's pet. When approached he is friendly and he sits up and begs.
