Breeders most likely bred the Bulloxer to have an intelligent, intimidating guard dog. Both parents come from unfortunate dogfighting pasts in 19th century Europe. The Confident American Bulldog parent Meet the white American Bulldog puppy The American Bulldog is a descendant of its English Bulldog breed , which had an unfortunate past of being bred and used for fighting and bull-baiting until these deplorable sports were banned in the s. After, breeders began turning the tables and breeding these dogs as compassionate family dogs rather than fighters. The American Bulldog dates its lineage back to 17th century America. They were probably first introduced to the United States in the s as working dogs with their immigrant owners. Females weigh pounds 27 to 36 kg , and males weigh pounds 34 — 45 kg. They stand strong at inches 50 — 64 cm , females on the shorter end of this spectrum. Their muscular stature lends to their self-confidence, as well as strength and endurance, as they were once farm-working dogs. The AKC recognizes them as a Working dog breed. The Boxer we know today most likely originated from German Bullenbeisser dogs in the s. In medieval times, these dogs hunted large game like bison and bear. Boxers have been successfully used as military dogs, therapy dogs, herding, and guard dogs. The Boxer is a fearless, protective companion who moves with both power and grace. A full-grown Boxer can weigh as much as pounds kg , with females typically weighing 15 pounds less than the male counterpart. They stand at .Their short coats are usually fawn or brindle with white markings. Their life expectancy is years. What does a Bulldog Boxer mix look like? The breed typically has short, floppy ears and a broad, jowly nose. They rock a thick chest and square head that adds to their intimidating look. Their tails are medium-length but often docked. A short muzzle with a slight underbite inherited from their Boxer parent is really the cherry on top if you ask me— it brings out their goofy, gentle side in their overall appearance. How big do these dogs get? These dogs are large, weighing in at pounds kg and stand tall at inches cm. While these are large dogs, they are adaptable to apartment living as long as they have access to a park or yard nearby and receive the proper amount of exercise. Coat and color of this crossbreed These dogs typically have short, dense coats— good news for owners on the hunt for a breed with low maintenance grooming needs. Their coats will come in colors such as white, light brown, brindle, or fawn. Since Boxers tend to have white markings along their chest and face, the Bulloxer may inherit this stylish appearance. Pros and Cons of the Boxer Bulldog personality The Gentle Guard Dog: The Pros They have an intimidating look and make excellent guard dogs as they are incredibly protective of their owners. Clicker training is an excellent choice for this breed. For a better idea of how entertaining these dogs are, check out this video of Kimble, an American Bulldog Mix with musical talent: Bulloxer or Bulldozer? They may become destructive if bored— talk about a rebellious streak! The crossbreed is susceptible to separation anxiety, which may be the cause of these behaviors. Bulldog Boxers need more than an owner; they need a boss. A Bulloxer may have more energy than it can handle. They can get super rowdy, jumping and running around. These dogs may not get along with other larger dogs, so if you have others in your household or plan on having multiple dogs in your house, this breed may not be for you. Regular teeth cleaning is essential. Ideally, this should be done every day. But begin with brushing as often as possible— some dogs hate this! Clean them out once a week with a cotton ball and dog-specific ear solution to avoid wax buildup, which can cause infection. They could easily break which can not only be quite painful but also cause infection. Playful Exercise Needs Bulloxers are energetic dogs who need minutes of active play a day to maintain their strong, athletic builds. I want to note that large-chested dogs are prone to a serious and deadly condition called bloat, usually brought on from too-quickly eating large amounts of food or too much exercise right after eating. The Food-loving Dog Diet A full grown Boxer Bulldog mix needs about cups of dry food a day, split between meals. These dogs are prone to joint issues, to make sure to pick a dog food rich with vitamins and both chondroitin and glucosamine. These dogs are prone to obesity, so stick to a strict feeding schedule and keep snacks to a minimum, with a healthy balance of food and exercise. Boxers have specific needs, so it may be best to feed a Boxer-specific diet. Are they healthy dogs? Boxers are prone to major health risks like cancer prevalent also in Bulldogs and Epilepsy. Bulldogs have their own impressive list of health risks. Bulldogs are susceptible to allergies and various skin issues, like eczema. There are plenty of loyal, healthy dogs deserving of good homes. Breeder options if you must If you absolutely must buy from a breeder, I recommend doing a great deal of research beforehand and asking the right questions— many breeders are just disguised puppy mills. Some questions to ask a potential breeder are: What are your adoption application procedures and requirements? Where do you get your dogs? What are your health screening procedures? Who is your working veterinarian? What are your follow-up procedures and requirements after adoption? What kind of follow-up resources will you offer me? How many times will you or have you bred mom and dad from this litter? And Bulloxer litter sizes are typically adorable little puppies. This is mainly due to the array of health issues from its Bulldog parent. They can weigh pounds and stand at about inches. The breed is so rare that there is little information about them, but their lifespan is years. Boxers were originally used for dog fighting, and they even got their name from the way they swing their front paws, which looks similar to a boxer throwing punches. The Bulldog is a brave beast of a dog that was originally used in bull baiting. They were so tough that they could even take down full-sized bulls, a feat that few other creatures could accomplish. Today, both breeds have become much calmer, which is why they make such great companions and guard dogs. A lot of that toughness remains though, and it makes for very athletic dogs. They only shed lightly and need very little grooming overall. They Can Become Destructive When Bored Bulldoxers are highly athletic dogs with above-average levels of intelligence, a mixture that often results in destructive behaviors when left alone. Your Bulloxer will need some mental and physical stimulation to prevent them from getting bored. Once your Bulloxer gets bored, you might come home to find the backyard full of deep holes or your couch chewed up into a million pieces! Make sure to exercise your Bulloxer plenty and keep them mentally engaged to avoid these destructive behavior patterns. This is a very loving and loyal breed that will want to stand guard, keeping the family safe. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They know how to be gentle with smaller creatures, including the children of their family. They tend to get along very well with pets of all types, even small dogs and cats. American Bullboxer Description The Bulloxer is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Boxer and the American Bulldog. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in any of the breeds in the hybrid. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. She loves to camp, hike, swim and sleep! At 6 months old he was about 65 lbs. Great personality and very smart. Too smart if you ask me. His father is a registered American Bulldog who weighs about lbs. I think he can do it! I know he makes me laugh. His dad is a lb. American Bulldog and his mom is a lb. He loves to play catch and he runs faster than any other dog at the dog park. He is very loving and has a sweet demeanor but definitely has a lot of energy and is a bit hard-headed. He is a wonderful addition to our family. He's still the fastest dog I've ever seen, and has grown to have the best personality. He watches television with us and plays with everyone friendly to him any chance he can get. All he wants out of life is the thrill of playing in the shallow waters and cuddles. All small breeds.Japanese Chin, Cockapoo and a teacup Shih Tzu. And I have 2 small kids. She is around 55 pounds or more in this picture. We just love Roxy. She is a sweetheart. She currently weighs 65 pounds. If all Bulloxers are like Roxy I don't think I would get any other type of dog again. She is so loving and kind to all of us. Its chest is broad and thick, and the head is in a square form. This hybrid has a short muzzle with a slight underbite. It can come in different colors or a combination of colors. These dogs are very energetic, playful, and loving but may also be stubborn at times. It is very loyal to and protective of its owner and will do anything to protect them from harm. You will have to show it a lot of love and affection for you to get the same from it. Although they are generally very friendly with others, you will have to train them consistently and socialize them early. If not properly socialized, they may become aggressive to those they think are threats. They enjoy playing around with their owners so it would be best to bring them out to do exercises from time to time. It needs to spend its energy on physical activities, or else they can become destructive at home. Never let them get bored or leave them all alone in your house because you might have to clean up a lot of destroyed objects when you get back. They are also prone to suffer from separation anxiety. Bulloxers are quick learners, but when your Bulloxer becomes stubborn, you will have to establish your dominance on it to make it listen to your commands. It is very strong-willed, so you have to be very confident when you are dealing with it in training. One thing you have to know about is that this hybrid often produces sounds and smell from multiple orifices on their body. Bulldog Combined with Boxer Puppies for Sale If you are sure that a Bulldog Boxer Mix is the right dog for you, then you have to find a reliable and reputable breeder. Nowadays, it is tough to find a breeder that you can fully trust. It is highly essential to get your puppy from a legitimate breeder since the way they were treated and raised to that point may have a significant impact on its personality, behavior, and as well as its health. There are thousands of breeders all over the globe, but only a few thousands of these are trustworthy. In selecting a dog breeder, you have to assess and analyze a lot of factors. You should visit their facility and see the space in which the dogs are kept in and check out what kind of food they are feeding the dogs. Try to assess the care and attention the breeders put into both the parent dogs and the puppies. You make sure that the breeders are knowledgeable about the hybrid, Boxer combined with Bulldog. There is no strict schedule that you have to follow. You only need to bathe your Bulldog Boxer when they are dirty. It is also not good to shower them often since it will affect the natural oils they have on their skin. Make sure to wipe its ears from time to time. Bulldog Combined with Boxer Health Problems Overall, a Bulloxer is quite a healthy crossbreed for its size and is not likely to suffer from many health issues. However, they are prone to obesity, which is why you have to regulate their food intake. A few Boxer Bulldog dogs have been known to develop different kinds of cancer, but it is rare for this to happen. Although they are not inclined to contracting many diseases, it is still essential to bring your pet to the vet frequently to have a general check-up. Here is a list of common canine ailments that they may suffer from throughout their lives: Hip Dysplasia — This is a common occurrence in dogs of this size. Because they are heavy, their joints have a tougher job in supporting their bodies. This condition will bring your pet a lot of pain, which is why you can opt for your Bulloxer to get surgery to correct it. Bloat — The cause of this disease is unknown. As soon as your Bulloxer exhibits symptoms such as shortness of breath, bring him to the vet immediately. Epilepsy — This term is used to describe multiple episodes of seizures. The most common cause of seizure in a dog is idiopathic epilepsy, which is usually a genetical predisposition, but there is no exact cause known. Your pet may not feel pain during an epileptic episode but will feel confused and may panic. Try to observe your dog, and if it has more than one seizure per month, then you have to get treatment from a veterinarian. Boxer Bulldog Mix Food Requirements The Boxer Bulldog is a larger than average dog, and it will require three to four cups of dry dog food daily. Try to avoid feeding your pet one big meal and instead divide the amount of dog food into two separate meals because Bulloxers are prone to bloating. Make sure that you give it dog food of high quality and one that contains all the nutrients it will need in a day. Remember to check all the ingredients in the dog food before purchasing them. Choose the product that has nutritional additives such as vitamins and minerals to keep your pet healthy. Since this crossbreed is likely to suffer from joint issues and pain, try to find food that has chondroitin and glucosamine. Do not buy products that contain unknown meat-meals or byproducts and those that contain various unnecessary additives like dyes. These dyes usually trigger food allergies of the dogs. It also contains different kinds of healthy fruits and vegetables such as pear, spinach, green, carrots, and blueberries. Nulo Adult Salmon and Peas This dog food has deboned salmon, turkey meal, and chicken meal as its protein source. This product leaves out any ingredient that may trigger allergies. It also does not have any grains, corn, wheat gluten, soy, artificial additives, colors, or flavors. It provides a balanced diet for all dogs. Also, it does not contain any soy or fillers, such as grain and gluten. You would not have to worry about your dog missing any nutrition because this dog food has all the nutritious ingredients that a Bulldog Boxer needs. Bulldog Boxer Mix Exercise Requirements Because this hybrid is very playful and enthusiastic, they will become very energetic inside the house, which is why you need to allow it to spend its energy outside through physical activities such as walking, jogging, or running. It loves stimulating its brain, so try to have them go through obstacles set up in your backyard from time to time. Your Bulloxer will need at least minutes of exercise per day. Be careful not to overwork and exhaust your pet because it might have breathing problems. You can utilize different types of toys and kinds of activities. Tennis balls are one of the toys that Bulloxers enjoy playing with the most. They love running around and fetching these balls, but after a couple of times of throwing, your arm will get very worn out. This device allows you to play with your pet companion for an extended period without wearing out your muscles. Boxer combined with Bulldog dogs have no problems with playing by themselves. Although they want you to participate in their playtime, they are still happy getting preoccupied with a toy. This toy is perfect for when you are suddenly too busy to play with your furry friend physically. It is a very sturdy ball and also glows in the dark, which makes it very attractive to your Bulloxer. This product is shaped like a football and is perfect for a game of fetch. It has deep ridges, which make it easy for dogs to pick up and carry. Your pet may play with this toy in the pool since it floats in water. Also, it comes in bright colors, thus, increasing its visibility. Boxer Combined with Bulldog Training Your Boxer Bulldog Mix dog is generally quick to train since it is smart and a fast learner, but they may, at times, be stubborn. Bulloxers have an independent trait, so they will do whatever they want to do if they feel like you are less confident. When you are dealing with this hybrid, you have to establish your dominance throughout the training session. There are two essential pieces of training that you have to do with your Boxer Bulldog, namely: Clicker Training. It utilizes positive reinforcement techniques. Researchers have proven that this method works exceptionally well for Bulloxers. Because Bulldog Boxer dogs are sometimes headstrong, harsh training techniques will not work and would bring about bad behavior. You should follow a click-treat-click-treat pattern so that your dog will understand that the sound of the clicker is associated with getting a reward. Do not let the pet see your clicker. House training. You have to establish a schedule for your pet to play, eat, and to go potty. This training is essential to maintain peace inside the home. Boxer Crossed with Bulldog and Families Bulloxers are excellent family dogs because they are very affectionate and very protective of their owners. They have a high sense of awareness of their surroundings and can be aggressive when they perceive something as a threat. This piece of information is vital to those who are looking for guard dogs. They are playful and enthusiastic, which is why they will also get along with children. Usually, these dogs are very patient with kids, but you might not want to leave them alone with very small offsprings. If you ever decide on getting a Boxer Bulldog mix as your furry companion, expect to feel more warmth and happiness in your household and your life.

With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. Questions about French Bulldog puppies for sale in New Jersey? We have answers. Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in Michigan? Check out our available English Bulldog Puppies page. At times, we have available puppies but almost always have a waiting list as well. A quick look at our available puppies is the starting point to begin the process. Send us an email or give us call .If approved to adopt one of our puppies you are welcome to place a deposit to hold until your puppy is ready to go home. Greetings from the Wysongs! I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. I grew up on a farm where we had all sorts of animals, from cows and horses to pigs and chickens. My love for animals led me to pursue a career in writing about them. I have been a pet care writer for over 5 years and have extensive knowledge of animal care, health, and behavior. Depending on the type food they are getting, a good daily average of around 3 cups of dry dog pellets per day is sufficient. Like all dogs, a Spangold Retriever needs constant access to fresh, clean water. They also need a good source of essential fatty acids , which are good for their thick and dense coats and their general health and well-being. They will need adequate protein as well, which will assist with skin, nail, bone, and muscle health. That said, carbohydrates like wheat or corn can quickly make them overweight and lead to various health issues and should be avoided. Most dogs need an average of around calories per pound per day to maintain a healthy weight, and an average Spangold weighs in at around 60 pounds. This can be altered depending on how active your Spangold is and depending on their age. They ideally need around 45 minutes of brisk walking a day, and if this is not strictly adhered to, it can quickly lead to behavioral problems. Regular exercise and quality time with your Spangold will also help with bonding and prevent separation anxiety. Their highly trainable nature makes them easy to put on a leash, though their propensity for hunting makes leash training absolutely necessary. They will always follow their instincts when coming into contact with small animals and chase them for miles without stopping. This can easily lead to a lost dog, or it can be dangerous when in an area with high traffic. While Spangolds will love to play with toys and ball, this cannot be counted as exercise. The best exercise for a dog is a brisk walk or a run alongside a bicycle. This ease of training makes them a great option for first-time dog owners. Their finely-tuned hunting skills are excellent at tracking prey, and this scenting instinct follows over to their training. They will swiftly pick up any training cues and commands and relish any treats given in return. One of the best training methods for Spangolds is using positive reinforcement, which is the concept that rewarding good behavior will lead to more of that behavior in the future. They will take to this method quickly, due to their inherent desire to please their owners. Spangolds are clever dogs, and in addition to regular walks, they will benefit greatly from games and activities that require chasing, scenting, and catching and fetching. Their coat is fairly prone to tangling and matting if not looked after, and pay attention to their feathered tails, legs, and ears. They are high-shedding dogs, especially in the spring and fall, and during these times, they should ideally be brushed daily. Their nails are not particularly fast-growing but should be regularly trimmed to prevent injury or infection. While this gives them their adorable, irresistible look, their heavy ears hang tightly on their head with limited airflow and can thus be prone to infection if not cleaned regularly. It is also important to dry the inside of the ear canals after they get bathed or go swimming, as this can greatly reduce the risk of infection. This can be quickly remedied if caught early, so if you notice any repeated scratching, head rubbing, or discharge, your dog should be taken to a vet as soon as possible. Another common ailment among Spangolds is atopic dermatitis. Their thick coat can make them prone to this illness if not cleaned regularly, but they can also have underlying allergies that cause skin disorders. If you notice any signs of itchiness displayed by excessive licking, scratching, and rubbing, a visit to the vet is the best bet. Hip dysplasia is common among Golden Retrievers, and this genetic disposition can follow over into Spangolds. Neutering a male dog has many associated health benefits , including preventing testicular cancer, reducing aggression, and stopping their instinctual desire for wandering and looking for a mate. Similarly, spaying a female will assist in preventing uterine infections or even breast cancer. It is recommended to do the spaying before her first heat, as this will further help prevent these complications. Neutering and spaying are highly recommended for general health benefits unless of course, you are planning on breeding. That said, if you want to breed a female Spangold, it is far better for her health to do so only after she has experienced at least one or two heat cycles. Minor Conditions. His mother was an Springer Spaniel and father a Golden Retriever. We have had him since he was 8 weeks old. He is a fantastic dog full of energy and love. He is the softest dog when indoors, sitting on your lap and having cuddles and kisses whenever possible. Outdoors he is so athletic and strong! He loves fetch, canicross running, mountain biking, swimming and climbing mountains. We are going to try him out at surfing this weekend. He is intelligent and learns commands quickly but is wilful so needs to be trained. He is extremely friendly, greeting everyone he comes in contact with enthusiastically. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. They are Spangold Retrievers. They are extremely loving and gentle, especially with children. They would rather be on your lap than anything else, except for maybe eating. Ziggy is 10 years old, and Max is a 4-month-old puppy in this picture. Max's momma is a purebred Springer Spaniel, black and white. Very intelligent and very food motivated but stubborn. Has a habit of chewing on things not meant to be chewed. I have had him since he was 12 weeks old. He's now a healthy, agile, fun boy being one years old. He is the first to answer the door to greet my guests. He stays by my side at all times and loves to be off leash in my non-fenced yard. He loves to swim and play with other dogs. He walks like he's a show dog with pride and extreme confidence. He's a quick learner when it comes to learning new things and absolutely loves agility and the beaches!!! He is very sweet and works to please. He loves kids and knows when to be gentle. He loves playing, vegetables, cuddling, water and taking walks. Gentle, aims to please, he learns extremely quick and will fetch you your shoes to go out and play. Very gentle and affectionate. She tends to follow her brother's lead a lot. She really has the look of a retriever, except for her black fur! He is very playful, but not too high energy, easy to train and eager to learn. Very outgoing and always wants to be where the action is! Took to the crate right away with no apprehension!

Smaller types, including toy, petite, and mini Goldendoodles are extremely popular, so their price is higher than larger dogs. Health Clearances Responsible breeders always have their stud and breeding dogs health-screened for genetic diseases that could be passed onto the puppies. So, to ensure that health standards in Goldendoodles are maintained, always buy your puppy from a breeder that has their dogs tested. So, what health screening tests should stud and breeding dogs have? When the dog is older, the joint becomes stiff and inflamed, leading to arthritis and mobility issues. The breeder should be able to show you a current BVA certificate. Dogs with vWD lack a clotting factor in their blood, so if the dog is injured, it will be difficult to stop the bleeding. Symptoms include loss of fur, inflamed, crusty skin, and a rank odor. Without sufficient cortisol, the dog cannot control stress or properly digest its food. Epilepsy in dogs generally appears when the animal is between one and three years of age. Affected dogs suffer from seizures. Canine Autoimmune Thyroiditis Canine Autoimmune Thyroiditis is a slow-onset hereditary disease that eventually results in hypothyroidism in senior dogs. The condition is passed to puppies from their mothers in the colostrum, so all breeding dogs must be screened for it. However, even a well-cared-for dog has to make that final journey over the rainbow bridge one day. According to research , the most common causes of death in dogs are recorded as old age, unspecified cancer, and heart failure. Goldendoodles typically enjoy a lifespan of between 10 and 15 years. Diet A high-quality, carefully balanced diet can also help to keep your Doodle in the best health and free from severe health conditions that could be fatal, such as bloat. Health Care If your Goldendoodle is given the very best of care throughout his life, he should stay healthy and enjoy his maximum life expectancy. So, make sure that your pet receives his annual vaccinations against potentially fatal diseases. Also, your Doodle should have regular veterinarian check-ups that will highlight any early signs of potential health problems so that you can treat them quickly. Finally, remember to deworm your dog and use preventative treatment for fleas, ticks, and other parasites. Keep Fit! Goldendoodles are very active, lively dogs that need lots of exercise to remain healthy. Again, just like people, obese dogs are prone to developing life-threatening health conditions, including diabetes and cardiac health issues. So, make sure that your pet gets plenty of walks, and trips to the dog park, and enjoys games with you and your family in your backyard. My first two dogs were energetic crossbreed rescues with boundless energy! At the time, I had horses, and both my dogs loved nothing more than to come with me on hacks around the forest or along the beach. When I look back and remember those rides, I can see how those two pups got so fit! We rode for miles! Of course, not every dog is built to accompany its owner on long hikes or bike rides. So, my little Raffles can have around 15 to 20 minutes walk daily. But training sessions and playtime in the garden can be just as mentally and physically exhausting as a full-blown hike! Pet dander consists of specks of skin that are released from dogs that shed. This can cause allergies in some people. Because Goldendoodles are a mixed breed, the poodle genes limit any dander that would normally be released from a golden retriever. Welcome to the Connecticut state page on TrustedPuppies. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. The Pug, or Pug Dog, is famous for its flat-faced appearance and large, soulful eyes. They are an ancient dog breed that originated in China over 2, years ago. They were originally developed as a refined pet of Chinese royalty along with the Pekingese and the Shih Tzu. During this time, the Pug was considered a national treasure that outsiders could only access if one was gifted to them. Dutch traders from the s can be credited with bringing the Pug onto the world stage when they brought some back to Europe with them. The Pug made its way to the United States in the s. Now, the Pug is a popular dog breed worldwide. They are a popular companion that provides their owners with plenty of love and laughter from their comedic and playful antics. The Pug is a playful and outgoing dog breed with a charming personality. They tend to be very loving towards children and also get along well with other pets and dogs. They are a companion breed at heart known for their gentle nature and sociable personality. They love to give love and receive it in return. Their sensitive nature makes them intuitive as well and Pugs will often sense the moods of their owners and react accordingly. They crave attention and affection from their owners and are big fans of napping. This dog breed is often described as an ideal house dog and they are moderately adaptable. They will do well in homes of any size, including apartments. The Pug also adapts well to city or country life and are a good fit for singles or families of any size. Although they are highly adaptable to various living situations, they are less adaptable to climates. Pugs are very sensitive to the heat and overexertion, so they are best-suited to moderate climates. They also love to be with their families and will not be happy if left alone for a long time. As with any dog breed, the Pug has some health conditions to be aware of. In particular, corneal ulcers and dry eye are some potential eye problems that can occur. Additionally, Pugs can be susceptible to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and encephalitis. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see health clearances can help allay concerns for some of these health issues. Pugs are also big foodies. They love to eat! Their love for food means this dog breed is prone to obesity. As a brachycephalic dog, their large head and short snout often cause respiratory problems, which can limit their exercise at times and contribute to weight gain. This will cause them to quickly gasp and snort, which can sound relatively alarming. These episodes are usually not harmful as your Pug is just clearing their palate and throat. The Pug tends to be easy to train and is a good fit for owners of any experience level. They are eager to please their owners and tend to pick up on commands quickly. They are sensitive souls and their feelings can be hurt easily, so they will not respond well to harsh corrections. This dog breed responds best to consistent training that focuses on positive rewards and will benefit from participation in puppy training classes. Pugs have a smooth, glossy, and short coat. Their fur is fine and soft. Although their coat is generally low-maintenance, it will shed throughout the year. Aside from brushing, Pugs only need occasional baths on an as-needed basis. Because Pugs have ears that drop down, they can be susceptible to moisture, dirt, or debris. Checking their ears regularly and cleaning as needed helps to keep them healthy and comfortable. The same goes for their iconic face wrinkles. Daily brushing is ideal, but if your Pug is not allowing you to do that, a few times a week should be sufficient. Getting your Pug used to these grooming tasks as a puppy will help make it a positive bonding experience and a much easier process throughout their life. This dog breed has a low to moderate energy level. Generally, daily walks and some play sessions are enough exercise for this dog breed. They may have short bursts of energy as they have a very playful nature, but they will tire easily. Some Pugs can handle a little more activity and even compete in some dogs sports like agility, rally, and obedience. Make sure you check with your vet first before jumping into dog sports with your dog. A full-grown Pug will usually stand 10 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 14 and 18 pounds. This dog breed generally lives for years. The Pug was a popular pet of the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. Featured Pug Article.

While we would have loved to get a rescue animal, with 6 of us in a square foot space , we needed a small, easy dog first : After much research, I settled on either a Goldendoodle or a Bernedoodle for a few reasons. The Poodle side of these breeds makes for some really smart and easy to train dogs, the Golden Retriever side of the breed gives you the playfulness, gentleness and loyalty we wanted, and the Bernese Mountain Dog gives you the goofy and fun loving side. Their puppies are all raised with their parents, and constantly around their family and four young kids. Our family has been talking about getting a puppy for a long time, and we would always throw around different names to see if they stuck. But one that we all agreed on was Nine Nine. You see, I learned from a young age that dogs are part of the family. That set me on a path to always be a dog owner. But none compares to what I found in my most recent companion: Emmett, the standard poodle. Since meeting Emmett the Standard Poodle, training him, snuggling with him, and observing him, one thing is certain: I will always be the proud Dog Momma of a Standard Poodle. Several pets including two dogs and countless cats have been called to our home by way of the humane society. In , I decided to deviate from this course. The Hunt for a Therapy Dog You see, as an educator, I set out to find a dog that I could bring with me to work in schools as a therapy dog; at the time, that meant seeking a dog with specific traits. After careful consideration of our lifestyle, goals, and budget, I settled on a Standard Poodle puppy. This purebred, papered pooch was located a few hours away and was from a reputable breeder. The dog we adopted was from a long line of dogs who were bred for their patience, calm temperament and trainability. Just what we were looking for! Read my tried-and-true tips for bringing home a new family pup here. I set out to train mine to be a certified therapy dog who may, one day, be allowed into schools with me as an educator. Therefore he needed full obedience training which we started as soon as I brought him home at 10 weeks of age. Our Training Schedule My dog was very loyal, was very eager to please me, and loved to work during our training walks. I found it very valuable to have a goal around training. So setting the goal of therapy dog certification was a great fit for us. When I stopped walking, he would immediately sit down and wait for a command. He could be touched anywhere on his body by anyone, and indeed had the most docile demeanor when it came to new situations, floor textures, and startling noises. We worked hard together, had a lot of fun, and bonded tremendously. I have met owners whose standard poodle is a water-sport retriever, therapy dog, and service dog. They are trainable, intelligent, and have an amazing personality to match their intellect! Potty Training Potty training my standard poodle pup was really a non-issue. In fact, he was much easier to train than our current puppy, a Labradoodle who you can read more about here. I arranged my schedule so that I could provide him frequent potty breaks, rewarded him with lots of praise for pottying when and where I preferred, and we took it one hour at a time. Fortunately he was a natural people-pleaser and liked to work hard for me. The Standard Poodle Diet Within a few weeks of having our poodle, we noticed him scratching his neck, legs and belly — a lot! A trip to vet and a call to the breeder revealed that it was possible he had a grain allergy. But for our dog it was essential. Within days of taking him off a grain puppy food and putting him on a grain-free kibble and wet food diet, his scratching disappeared. My favorite grain-free kibble for him was from Diamond Naturals, the Skin and Coat formula found here. He loved the taste and we got complimented on his hair all the time because it was so soft and shiny. Dollar for dollar, that made the price comparable to the lesser-quality foods. Playing with Small Children As a mom of two young children 1 and 3 , the Standard Poodle was the best medium-sized dog for my growing young family. Sure, you hear that poodles are great family dogs. But my experience confirms this over and over: this dog was perfect for the family with very small children. Thanks to our training together and his naturally calm, people-pleasing temperament, my babies could before I told them to stop! Never did this dog demonstrate any behavior to cause me alarm. My only frustrations came when he would turn suddenly in his excitement to play and knock one of the kids over; this happened more than once. I believe and have seen this could happen with any breed and any toddler. Nonetheless, his 52 pound-breed was energetic and driven, and not always thinking about physics! This dog took well to every member of our family, including our frequently-visiting extended family. Our standard poodle traveled well, adapted swiftly, and calmed quickly when there were visitors. But once he recognized we were safe, he was quick to fall in line and follow our lead. This will save you lots of money in the long run. There are lots of great books that teach dog grooming. That sweet, soft, non-shedding coat draws many people to check out this sweet breed. Any family considering a poodle needs to consider this expense whether it be monetary or the expense of time and DIY. The time had come to get a real groom, and thus starts a lifetime of poodle haircuts. I have two favorite standard poodle cuts — the Teddy Bear cut and the Puppy Cut. This included nail trim, gland expelling, wash, cut and dry. That fluff of hair is really good at masking its weirdness. However, once that poodle coat grew in, that changed. Emmett started getting a rash and chafe marks on his neck. I thought perhaps he had an allergy or a medical issue, or perhaps was allergic to his dog food. However, I learned from my groomer that poodles need a special collar for that fur — she recommended the rolled leather collar, like this one. My groomer was right! The rolled collar was exactly what he needed. For the rest of his life, that issue never returned. I believe that his neck hair was being irritated from the flatness of the previous collar. With his hair being so curly and tightly-wound, this type of collar allowed his standard poodle coat to grow with ease — no more issues. Size Matters Standard poodles come in many sizes. Also, he was large enough to be an ominous presence when strangers would arrive at the house. To know what size he might be as a grown dog, I looked to the sizes of the mom and dad — both purebred Standard Poodles. Sure enough, he landed right in the middle of their weights, averaging perfectly. What if someone needs to lift them — can we do that? What will their lifestyle be? For example, am I looking for a running partner who needs to have long legs in order to keep up? Or am I looking for a smaller dog? For our family, this standard poodle size was perfect. How We Play Finally! A retriever who will actually play ball! Our standard poodle was a blast to play with, whether it be frisbee, tossing a tennis ball, or just being active outside. As a high-energy, high-intellect dog, it was important that he have lots of opportunity to play. Every day, this dog loved to chase critters, run and roll in the grass, and be with his humans. He was notorious for chasing after us on bikes or barking enthusiastically if he knew we were taking a trip. As a bird watcher read all about how I invite songbirds and hummingbirds in my yard I trained him to leave the feeders alone! My standard poodle loved to play, learned to fetch and drop the ball very quickly and has a playful temperament. The Standard Poodle Quirks As with all dogs, standard poodles have their own personality quirks and those little traits that make them unique. He would eat lots of carbs like tortillas and ramen noodles if we left him alone too long and the pantry was open. When he was a tiny week old puppy, he slept under the bed…this he still did at six years old! It was hard to slide under, but he managed every night. His most annoying trait was that he knew when we were headed to the groomer, and would refuse to come in the house or get in the car. Saying Goodbye to Our First Standard Poodle Every breed has their genetic predispositions to disease and ailments; the Standard Poodle is no exception. We said goodbye to ours when he suddenly came down with bloat. At 6 years old he went from being a high-energy, vivacious dog to very lethargic and unwell overnight. He contracted bloat and was beyond saving when it was identified by our vet. With future our next standard poodle we will definitely consider the surgery done during neutering where their stomachs are secured in case of this terrible ailment. To those of you who have lost fur babies, too, my heart goes out to you. Why I Love the Standard Poodle The standard poodles is a loving, family-friendly dog with a wonderful temperament, people-pleasing nature, and tons of energy. Their beautiful, iconic coat is soft, easy to maintain and non-shedding! Of all the intelligent, medium-sized breeds of dogs in the world, this one has found its way into our family and we will certainly adopt another! mini poodle mix puppies for sale - How do I train my 8 week old German Shepherd puppy? It is quite normal for young German shepherd dogs to be hungry but constant hunger does concern me. Ask the vet to check if the worm treatment is working. Two other potential causes are maldigestion and malabsorption. Pancreatic insufficiency is common in German shepherds. How much should a German shepherd puppy eat a day? To begin with follow the guidelines provided by the feeder, the feed manufacturer, or by your veterinarian. For example, you could expect to start feeding your puppy a total of around 3 cups a day of a high-quality kibble. Dogs and people, too need sugar for energy. Is it normal for my puppy to always be hungry? Your puppy might always be hungry because they need more daily calories. They may also have adopted bad habits caused through eating human food. Some dogs and puppies will naturally be more prone to food obsession. Do German Shepherd puppies eat a lot? Your GSD pup eats nearly double the amount of an adult in order to maintain growth rate and their higher daily energy needs. Balanced formulas keep their bones and muscles strong throughout their growing periods and can ward off later joint issues, a common breed problem, as they mature. What time should I feed my German Shepherd puppy? Feed 3 times per day from 8 to 12 weeks of age and twice per day thereafter. If you want to change the food, always choose a high quality puppy food labeled for large breeds. What do I do if my puppy is always hungry? Always stick to your feeding schedule. Should I let my puppy eat as much as he wants? Puppies need to eat a lot—and not too much. You should be able to feel but not see their ribs, and they should have a visible waist when you look down at them. Why is my puppy eating so fast? They get excited to eat, they see the food, and they all rush over to the bowl. Some puppies will quickly get over that behavior, but others will keep at it until they are taught to slow down. Should puppies eat 2 or 3 times a day? Puppies need small, frequent feedings. Is my puppy hungry or greedy? If you are feeding a quality dog food and if you are following the feeding instructions properly — then it is likely that your dog is just being greedy. How do you know when your puppy has worms? What are the signs your dog has worms? How much food should a 6 week old German Shepherd eat? How much should a 6 week old German Shepherd puppy eat? How much should I feed my 8 week old German Shepherd puppy? At 8 weeks old, German Shepherd puppies should eat 3 to 4 small meals per day. My puppy is always hungry is a sentence most veterinarians hear all the time. But what about when you have the same problem with an adult dog or even a senior one? This leaves them not just having to adjust to a new living environment, but their body might also require some time to adjust. Newborn puppies have a feeding source available right there next to them, in the shape of their mother. Suddenly, your puppy is going from a constant supply of food to eating only two to four times a day. In the wild, dogs are opportunistic eaters. They can spend days without any access to food. This is the same reason many dogs express food aggression. Many wild dogs and wolves will scavenge for food and bury any leftovers so they can have them later. Does that sound familiar? If your dog is constantly trying to dig in the trash can, he is simply following his survival instincts. Survival Mode If you have an adult dog that is always hungry, chances are you adopted him when he was older than a few months. In fact, some puppies are even born with a parasitic infection they inherit from their mothers. They will stick onto the intestinal walls and absorb all the nutrients from the food your dog eats. This can lead to an increased appetite and malnutrition. If a dog has this disease, his body will produce too much glucocorticoid, a stress-regulating hormone. Too much glucocorticoid causes your dog to be hungry all the time. Dogs with diabetes will lack insulin, which normally helps glucose get into the blood cells. This condition occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, making your dog hungry all the time. Keep in mind that young puppies have a much faster metabolism than older dogs. They can eat a lot without weight gain. However, if you notice they are becoming underweight, this is a red flag. The smartest thing would be to talk to your vet about the right amount of food your puppy requires. Most of the time, this will depend on things such as dog breed and size and his activity levels. Large breeds that are active will require more calories than small lap dogs. If you have a small puppy, be prepared to feed him about four times a day. Puppies require lots of small meals as their metabolism is faster, which is also the reason puppies will want to poop much more often than adult dogs. An older puppy should be fed 2 to 3 times a day. Adult dogs should eat no more than twice a day — unless they are working dogs with higher activity levels. Active dogs require more small meals a day as this can provide them with enough energy to go through their day. Food Needs The amount of dog food required will depend mostly on the size of your dog. This should make sense. A large dog should eat more than small breeds. However, the main indicator of how much food a puppy should eat is his weight. For example, a pound German Shepherd puppy will require 2 cups of food daily not per meal! On the other hand, a small, 5-pound Chihuahua puppy will need no more than one cup of food per day. A pound Bulldog puppy will also require 2 cups of food, just like a pound German Shepherd pup. They will require more calories and high-quality dog food without any fillers. Keep in mind that puppies should eat wet food until they are old enough to chew on a kibble. For large dogs, this is usually when they reach 10 weeks of age. Smaller dog breeds have smaller teeth, which is why they might not be prepared for dry food until they are at least 14 weeks old. Fortunately, there are ways to notice whether your puppy is underweight or overweight. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself when looking at your pup: 1. Can I easily see his ribs? Can I easily feel his ribs? When I look at my dog from above, do I see his waistline? The answers to these questions will tell you everything you need to know. Underfed puppies have a too slender waist, while overfed ones tend to not have a clear waistline at all. Most puppies, just like babies, have a little bit of tummy fat. If you think your puppy is really overweight, you might even want to take him to the vet. Of course, all puppies are different, and some dog breeds will always look chubbier than others. However, these guidelines are a general rule of thumb that can help you determine whether your dog is eating too much or too little. Bad Habits Many pet owners make mistakes when feeding their pets. They do this out of best intentions, as they simply cannot stand the thought of their beloved companion being hungry for a second. Feeding Dogs Table Scraps Giving human food and table scraps to your dog is always a terrible idea, especially if you have a growing puppy. This makes it challenging to keep track of what your dog is eating. Of course, this means your entire family has to be with you on this. Overfeeding We cannot stress this enough: overfeeding is the main reason dogs become obese. While chubby puppies might look cute, there is nothing healthy about having an obese dog. Obesity can lead to many problems, especially in large breeds prone to orthopedic problems such as hip and elbow dysplasia. Overall, the best possible thing is to stick to your feeding schedule, no matter the event or the behaviors your dog is expressing. There are a couple of things you might want to try if you want to speed up these efforts: Give More Frequent Meals When you bring a new puppy home, you should give him many small meals. As mentioned before, four meals should be enough. This will ease his transition from breastfeeding. As time goes by and your puppy gets used to eating wet food, lower the number of daily meals. Add Water to the Kibble When a puppy starts eating dry food, he might not be used to it. This can make him eat more or less of it than he should, which will make him hungry all day long. He might even eat slower than he normally would, which will help his tummy feel full. As he grows older, reduce the amount of water until you leave him with nothing but kibbles. This is the healthiest way to ensure he is eating the right amount of food and that his transition to dry food goes well. Use Some Type of Obstacle One of the reasons your puppy might be feeling hungry all the time is that he is eating too fast. The same happens with humans. Adding a cup in the middle of the feeding bowl can be enough. Your puppy will have to eat around it, which will make him eat slower than he normally would. You can even find many specially designed food bowls made for fast eaters. These can also help prevent bloating or calm down puppies that get overly excited during mealtime. Consult Your Vet If you feel like there is something wrong with your puppy and his eating habits, you might want to consult your vet just to be on the safe side. Unfortunately, there are some medical causes behind the constant hunger some puppies feel. This can help you sleep calmly. The Final Word All puppies have unique needs. Is he too big or too small for his age? If your puppy is being annoying and constantly begging for food, the most important thing is to not give in to his begging. The sun is out and the weather is nice. Everything is going well until they pull hard on their leash all of a sudden. Then you hear a crunching sound. They resist with all their might. And now everyone is looking at you. What a relief! You often wonder: Why does this happen? Your German Shepherd may be starting to discover new things. Especially if they are still a puppy or they are in a new environment. This includes sniffing and having a taste of anything they could get their hands on. Or rather, their paws. Sometimes, they really are just eating machines! This is why they are considered as some of the most effective guard dogs. Yes, they do sniff. But they also treat themselves once in a while. Through licking and eating things. But before you give your canine some downtime, try to understand them. Why do they do these things? One word: wolves. But after some time, they learned the ways they can scavenge food from humans. And then they were able to eat without having to hunt. But the food was limited back then. So they used to stuff themselves with everything before the food ran out again. This instinct is still intact until today. Our dogs will go through our trash or would eat scraps from our table. They would eat anything we offer them. All was going well until they drove their heads right in the picnic mat. You cover your face in embarrassment. Goodness, gracious! Even if your dog just ate a minute ago, they always look for food. Why is that? The reason why they eat everything could be because you are not feeding them enough. German Shepherds are large dogs. Their average weight ranges from 49 pounds to 88 pounds 22 kg to 39 kg. With that weight, they have to be fed correctly. If not, they will look for food sources elsewhere. Your dog loves to eat grass. Wherever you go for walks, they stay in one place and gobble on some fresh greens. Then they vomit them. Especially when they also love to give you kisses afterward. This could be because they need certain nutrients. If they eat grass all the time, they could be lacking in fiber. Or they just love the taste of organic goodies. Well, unless they are eating poisonous plants. In which case, you should take them to a vet immediately. The stool may have parasitic worms that can lead to stomach problems. But if your dog eats feces, it means they may have nutritional deficiencies. You can resolve this by letting them take multivitamins. If your German Shepherd is eating non-stop, this could be because of medical reasons. They may have a parasite in their small intestine such as tapeworms that can cause them to be hungry all the time. Think of it as being pregnant. A mom could be eating for two: herself and the baby in her womb. Whereas your dog is also eating for two: for themself and the tapeworm. Taking them to the vet for some medications should do the trick. Dogs also experience this. Pica is a compulsive disorder which could be caused by behavioral reasons such as fear or stress. An example of this is when they fear punishment for destroying something. So to get rid of the evidence, they would eat it instead. Note that this behavior is dangerous. It could cause a loss of appetite, stomach problems, and choking. Final thoughts 1. They sometimes treat each opportunity for food like it may be their last one. They believe deep down on a genetic level that food can very well become a scarce commodity and a limited resource. Their feeling is that they are not guaranteed a meal every day, or even every few days, and this may cause their survival instinct to kick in. If this becomes the case with your German Shepherd, then you are going to have to take control of the situation and exert your inner Alpha Leader. Then, come up with a regular feeding schedule, and above all, stick to it! Refrain from allowing anyone, family or visitors, from giving your dog any type of human table scraps or handouts. And with treats, only allow your dog to have them when it has earned them by following instructions or being calm and submissive. This is when you will remove the bowl, whether the entire meal was eaten or not. This will serve to help your dog learn the schedule of mealtime, and that they can expect to not be getting anything until the next meal. As your dog gets in tune with a schedule, it should work to remove the desire of always looking for something to eat. Psychology Another reason that your German Shepherd may always be acting like it is hungry may very well be based on psychology. Dogs are very habitual creatures, and as such any change in their mannerisms may indicate a deeper problem. If your German Shepherd has always presented as a somewhat passive eater but then seems to become more greedy in nature, then it may be time to investigate the possibility of something more than just basic instinct at work. Dogs, much like their human companions, can suffer from psychological issues. And when they do, often the first indication is a sudden and unexplained change in their personality as well as their habits. Some examples would be: Have you or your family recently moved? Has the German Shepherd recently been rehomed? Changes such as these are known to bring about feelings of insecurity and anxiety, which in turn will lead to extra added stress on your German Shepherd. In the case of a change in the pack dynamic, such as the case of the addition of a new dog to your home, you will need to supervise meals for a while. It is best to make sure that the newest member of the household is not trying to push the older member away from the bowl during feeding time. Improper Nutrition When most owners think of improper nutrition, they think of it in terms of a loss of appetite, not increasing appetite. However, the problem can have both effects on your German Shepherd. When it comes to store-bought, processed dog food, manufacturing companies pack the cans chock full of grains, starches and most of all fiber. Fiber is not as beneficial, or even beneficial in the same manner to dogs as it is to humans. Fiber, much like in humans, can aid in a dog feeling full after a meal. However, science shows that carbs from starches, as well as from fiber, are but a small percent of the daily healthy requirements for our dogs. This will then lead to food-seeking behavior. To make sure that your dog is getting a balanced and protein-rich meal, it is crucial that you feed them a nutritionally complete fresh food diet that is species-appropriate. A consultation with your vet can go a long way, as they can suggest the best feeding choices for your individual dog. If the proper food is fed during each meal, then your German Shepherd will be less likely to be seeking an additional meal later. Aging As our canine companions age, their physical systems will go through some changes. One of those changes can unfortunately be the inability of their system to properly digest, absorb, and make use of the food that they ingest. For this reason, many dogs, as they enter into their golden years, will appear to be hungry all the time. This condition, more commonly referred to as malabsorption. This is an ailment that originates in the gastrointestinal tract of a German Shepherd, resulting in the effect that no matter how much food the dog eats, it will still feel hungry almost all of the time. The treatment for malabsorption in aging dogs varies depending on what the root cause may actually be. In many instances, the German Shepherd will need to have a significant restructuring of their meals. This meal restructuring may include the prescribing of a diet that is gluten-free in an attempt to ease the feeling of hunger, which in turn may help towards managing the condition. Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth The intestines of most living creatures normally have lots of bacteria present. However, the number of intestinal bacteria can sometimes grow too quickly, and this abnormal rate of growth may sometimes become the start of the problem. With bacterial overgrowth in dogs, the area affected is that of the small intestines. The most commonly exhibited signs of small intestines bacterial overgrowth, or SIBO , are those of diarrhea and flatulence. With the idiopathic form in the German Shepherd breed, some dogs may appear overly and excessively hungry, as well as engaging in the act of pica or stool ingestion. The most commonly prescribed treatment for bacterial overgrowth is a series of broad-spectrum antibiotics that are taken orally. As a rule, the medicines most often chosen for use are those of tylosin, oxytetracycline, and metronidazole. Onset of Diabetes Dogs owners are sometimes surprised to learn that many of the illnesses that we as humans suffer from also apply to their dogs. One such malady that affects both humans and dogs alike, is diabetes. Diabetes mellitus , or uncontrolled levels of sugar in the bloodstream, is a disease that has a variety of factors that play into its development. Although it is widely thought that the German Shepherd is not genetically disposed to contracting diabetes, know that all dog breeds are susceptible. When a German Shepherd develops diabetes, and the fluctuations in blood sugar that comes with it, they may present with constant and ferocious hunger. The treatment for dogs diagnosed with diabetes is pretty much the same as with humans. Dietary changes are also commonly prescribed, which should help with the sudden spikes in blood sugar that are known to occur often. The treatment for German Shepherds diagnosed with diabetes can be long-term if not a life-long requirement. When this happens, the dog will show all the symptoms of starvation, including an ever-present hunger and appetite. At this current time, there is no cure known to work for EPI. A dog diagnosed with EPI does will not necessarily experience a shortened life span. If properly diagnosed, and the condition is treated properly, the dog can continue to enjoy as full and as active of a lifestyle as any other dog. When the enzymes are added to its food each time a dog is fed, the supplement works to help break down and aid in the digestion of the food from each meal. Hyperthyroidism This condition presents the same in dogs as it does in humans. Because the thyroid controls all of the systems in the body, there is no one system that remains unaffected by the condition. Hypothyroidism itself is brought on by the excessive production of the hormone thyroxine. This increased production is generally diagnosed as a result of aggressive thyroid cancer. The thyroxine is the very fuel that causes the increase of metabolism to occur. Although the condition may be triggered by a diet that contains high levels of hormones, the usual culprit is that of an aggressive cancer of the thyroid, resulting in a tumor. Unfortunately, more often than not, this diagnosis is terminal. Treatment is usually determined by one of multiple factors, including the size of any tumor present, and if said tumor has already metastasized to other organs or systems of the body. The medical term for the syndrome, hyperadrenocorticism, is one in which the adrenal glands overproduce certain hormones. The adrenal glands are commonly located near the kidneys of the dog, and are vital to the function and sustaining of the body systems needed for life. As for treatment, that depends on which form of the syndrome that the German Shepherd is diagnosed with. Treatment could simply mean the halting of any steroids that are being given to the dog, to the possibility of surgery to remove any tumors that may be present in the adrenal or pituitary glands. Your vet may also introduce a different course of treatment, which will most often have to be followed to the letter and maintained on a regular and consistent basis. Intestinal Cancers As mentioned above, when the intestines of a German Shepherd are affected, then there is usually a problem with the absorption of nutrients. Many types of cancers that develop in our dogs are gastrointestinal in origin. The cancers usually present with tumors in either the rectum, stomach or the intestines. Both of these types of tumors are known to grow at a rapid pace. Although the current treatment is surgery, a lasting cure seldom results, as the cancer has more often than not already metastasized. Chemotherapy may be suggested but is usually found to be unsuccessful. If a dog suffers from either of these types of cancers, survival time is usually anywhere from two to ten months. In most cases, painkillers are highly advised, in an effort to lessen any pain that may be associated with the cancers. The sudden onset of increased appetite in German Shepherds may possibly be an indication of one of several other underlying conditions. Contact your veterinarian at this point for further evaluation. If you suspect that any of the above are reasons that your dog may be experiencing constant hunger, it is highly advised to consult with your veterinarian. The endocrine system is responsible for the production of the hormone cortisol. So what exactly is cortisol and why is it important? It regulates weight, tissue, and skin conditions. In effect, your German Shepherd will be more vulnerable to disease and infections because of a weak immune system. Do German Shepherds Shed? What feeding plan you enforce from their puppyhood days should be stuck to throughout their lives. There are a few dog feeding plans, choose the best one based on what character your dog has. A full bowl of food usually dry kibble is placed out allowing your dog to eat whenever they want to. Also, if you have many dogs, they can access the food from the same bowl. They can eat whenever they are hungry and not have to wait for feeding. This feeding plan gives owners more flexibility and freedom. But, on the other hand, there are disadvantages. A greedy dog can easily eat beyond his fill, making him overweight and prone to obesity! Plus, in particular, one dog could bully the other dogs and stop them from eating their fair share of food. Do German Shepherd Like Water? Can They Swim? After this, it is taken away. So while scheduled feeding may make your dog eat fast as he is afraid you will take his food away, overeating is not a possibility. But, if your dog is a slow eater he could end up feeling hungry all day long. People even mention this as a cruel method of feeding. Portion feeding is especially good if your dog is on a diet plan. He will stay within eating limits. On the other end, portions allocated in portion feeding could be inadequate for your dog if you miscalculate! Also, this type of feeding requires you to feed your dog multiple times. Do German Shepherd Drool? Causes of Drooling 5 Anxiety Just as humans are prone to overeating due to anxiety, dogs are the same. An anxious German Shepherd can easily eat too much or eat too frequently. As his owner, it is your responsibility to observe these eating changes. But first, you must get down to the source of the problem. Why is your German Shepherd anxious? Dogs can get anxious for a number of reasons. The most common ones are insecurity and loneliness. If a person or animal has moved in, your dog could be feeling uncomfortable or unsafe. If someone your dog cares about has moved out, your dog could miss him, making him feel anxious. His peak appetite will be when he is an adult as his metabolism and energy expenditure are both high in adulthood. But, as your dog enters his senior years his body is not what it used to be. He will be unable to digest food the same way he could. This actually leads to vital nutrients and minerals not being properly absorbed by the intestine. A condition called malabsorption. As a result, your senior German Shepherd is prone to feeling hungry all the time. Fortunately, you as an owner can help to deal with this. If you have recently adopted a German Shepherd from a shelter, he is likely to feel hungry all the time. This is because of the insecurity that he feels. Perhaps he feels he may not get food again for a long time. Eventually, after he settles down this may not be his fear anymore. But, not all dogs learn to let go of this instinct. All you can do is offer up support and love and hope he feels safe and loved by you. If your dog has a dog sibling that has just joined the family recently, this instinctive eating could be seen. This is because they feel that the other dog might eat all the food and he will remain hungry. So, to assure he is fed and fit, he will definitely eat a lot! A German Shepherd can eat most meats like beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and duck. You can give your dog raw meat to provide all the required nutrients. These meats can be eaten cooked but nutrients may be lost in the process of cooking. Fruits and vegetables are essential for dogs as they are for humans. Carrots act as a crunchy snack besides being high in vitamins and a nice way to incorporate fiber into their diet. Nuts are a great energy-boosting snack but only give your German Shepherd hazelnuts or peanuts. That too, in moderation. Other foods safe for your German Shepherd are whole grains, honey, peanut butter, and quinoa. Can You Shave German Shepherd? Meats like shrimp and fish are not advisable and require monitoring. Some fish can have parasites that can affect your dog. Dogs cannot eat some fruits. This includes avocados, grapes, pears, grapes, raisins, and persimmons. Nuts have high calories and influence weight gain in your dog. Macadamia, pecans, walnuts, and pistachios are the main nuts your dog cannot eat. Other foods you should never feed your dog are chocolate cacao , caffeine, xylitol, salt, and potatoes. All human junk and fast food are not good for your pet dog. These items usually taste good but increase weight and cholesterol and sugar levels. The monthly cost of feeding a full-grown German Shepherd fluctuates. The cost of feeding a German Shepherd depends on the age of your German Shepherd, its appetite, and the food brand chosen. The total monthly cost of owning a German Shepherd is more because of other costs pertaining to vet bills, toys, and other bills. Why is my German Shepherd not eating in summer? It is very common for a German Shepherd to eat less during summer. Hence, requiring less energy. But, it is not common for them to stop eating completely! Take them to a vet as there is probably an underlying reason for this.

A curlier, Poodle-like coat requires more frequent brushing and grooming. This is largely due to high demand for hypoallergenic and non-shedding dogs. For more information which generation you should choose, check out our complete guide to Labradoodle generations! Cost of Living Cost of living varies significantly across the United States and the world. As cost of living rises, so does the price of a Labradoodle. Depending on where you live, it may be beneficial to take a mini road trip and drive a few hours to a breeder further away. Doing so could potentially save you a substantial amount of money. What did they do to get such a good price? In some instances, they may have been given a puppy for free after someone they knew had an accidental litter. However, in most cases, the answer is they adopted a Labradoodle instead of purchasing it from a breeder. Adoption is a great option to consider. Even if you were able to find a breeder with Labradoodles for that little money, it raises a big red flag that they may not be reputable. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I also recommend you stay away from pet stores when looking at puppies. Click here to get an instant, online pet insurance quote from Healthy Paws! Color Labradoodles come in a wide variety of colors. There are solid choices like chocolate, cream, apricot, and black as well as multi-color patterns like merle, sable, tuxedo, and parti Labradoodles. In most cases, black is the least expensive Labradoodle color. However, keeping your options open to a variety of colors and choosing your future puppy based on their personality over their color is my recommendation! Reputable breeders can only supply so many puppies, so when there is an excess in demand prices can go up. One example of this occurring regularly is around the holidays. Like any other breed, Labradoodles are often gifted to children or spouses for Christmas. Because demand is so high around the holidays, many breeders increase their prices for Labradoodle puppies that are scheduled to go home in December. Why Are Labradoodles So Expensive? So, why are Labradoodles so expensive? Labradoodle prices are so expensive because poodle mixes are extremely popular due to their adorable looks and their potential to be low-shedding and allergy-friendly. Reputable Labradoodle breeders often have waitlists that extend many months into the future because they struggle to keep up with demand. You will almost certainly be asked to place a deposit for a Labradoodle puppy. This is a completely normal practice that secures your spot for a particular litter. It is extremely important that you do your research on a breeder before placing a deposit. You want to weed out puppy mills and backyard breeders before being financially committed to purchasing a puppy. Additionally, there are scammers who prey on eager Labradoodle buyers. These scammers, often found on social media, can be very convincing and use stolen photos to secure a deposit and then promptly disappear. Avoid these scams by finding trusted breeders through personal recommendations and other reputable sources. Visit them in person or at minimum have a video call to verify they are a legitimate operation with puppies available. Make sure your Labradoodle puppy has had a few essential health procedures before being sent home with you. They should at least be up to date with their first round of vaccinations, flea and tick prevention, deworming, and an overall health check by a veterinarian. Some breeders even extend this guarantee up to 2 years in length. Your Labradoodle puppy will usually be sent home with a few additional items. This often includes a small bag of food, a collar, and a toy or blanket that smells like their littermates. The smell provides them comfort during their first few days in their new home. Unfortunately that number is not even close to being accurate. While this is not actually required, it is highly suggested since it covers vet bills and emergency treatments for injuries. Most of these are optional except for emergency treatments. Owners who need service dogs should be prepared to spend more on special training classes. Our miniature Labradoodles or minis are the result of a miniature Australian Labradoodle bred to a miniature or medium Australian Labradoodle. The vast majority of our puppies fall into this category. Medium Labradoodles are " to the shoulder and weigh 30 to 45 lbs. Standard Labradoodles are about 20" to 22" to the shoulder 45 to 60 lb. Coat Types: Fleece: also known as borderline or wavy, is soft to the touch - an allergy friendly coat. It can be curly or wavy. Wool: also known as curly, slightly coarse feeling to the touch - an allergy friendly coat. Hair: also known as flat or slick coat, this is a shedding coat and is NOT allergy friendly. Grooming requirements of Australian Labradoodles: There are several factors to consider in grooming your Australian Labradoodle. One is: how long do you want to keep the coat, or what look are you going for? The "shaggy" look is most popular and they can be groomed just a couple times a year. If you keep your pet indoors most of the time you can get away with an occasional bath and brushing every few days. If you want the shorter look, which requires less brushing you will want to groom your pet every couple of months. The next thing to consider is coat type. A curly wool coat is not one you can keep "shaggy" but would tangle and mat if let grow long - they should be groomed every months, depending on care given. A fleece wavy coat will allow for the two different grooming options I spoke about and is the most desired Labradoodle coat. The other coat options we do not breed as they often produce shedders - that is why we breed multi-generation Australian Labradoodles, to produce the best coats and temperaments.
