My involvement in boxers stems back to my childhood days where I have been brought up with dogs which took me along the journey to my first encounter with this beautiful breed. Red was by the Champion dog Hilthorn Gold Blend and had a lovely temperament, he grew into a fine boxer with excellent bone and substance. Following the arrival of Red we decided to seek a companion for him, as we were totally smitten by his wonderful temperament, size, quality and substance we decided to go back to the Rosanyos kennels. No pressure then I thought! With the help of Rosanyos I took Locker to ringcraft classes to make sure he had the correct training. At 6 months old Locker did not disappoint qualifying for Crufts at his very first Championship Dog Show. Locker has been a consistent winner at both Open Shows and Championship Shows, often winning Best of Breed and qualifying for Crufts each year. Soon after we had Locker join us we lost our lovely red girl Betty, so we decided that he should have a companion. I typically plan on making Goldendoodle bathing a two-day event…one day for brushing and the next for bathing, drying, and brushing. Use your happy voice and give your dog plenty of sweet talk. Always check in with your dog. Is your dog cooperative? Never take this for granted. What about bathing a new puppy? If you have a puppy, there are several things you can do set your furry bestie up for a lifetime of happy baths. When my Goldendoodle was just a puppy, I honestly lucked into making bath time happy for her. She loved drinking out of the bathtub faucet. I turned it on so it was just a trickle of cool water. She clamored into the tub. She lapped up the trickling water from the spigot. Then I cupped my hands under the faucet and she drank from my hands. She still loves doing this as an adult. Your Goldendoodle puppy may love this too. Or, maybe your dog is food motivated. If so, you can try placing a lick mat on the side of the bathtub to provide a happy distraction. Here are more ideas for how to help prepare your Goldendoodle puppy for the first bath: Preparing your puppy for a happy bath time experience Before the bath, plan a time to just let your puppy have fun exploring the area where bathing will happen. Of course, have the area puppy proofed first. Let your pup sniff, explore, or approach the bathtub on their own terms. Slow and steady wins the race. If all is going well, try placing your puppy in the tub, which should be empty with no water running. Give treats, praise, and make it fun! Always end any new experience on a positive note. Once your puppy likes the bathing area and the bathtub, try turning the water on…just a trickle. Remember, the sound of the water may be frightening to a puppy. Give treats and use your happy voice to give lots of verbal praise. Enhance the experience by using a lick mat suction cupped to the wall. This makes a happy distraction. A small shampooing brush can be used to lather the soap into the fur. You can apply the shampoo directly on their coat, working your way from the neck down to the tail. This includes their undercarriage, legs, and paws. If any shampoo gets left behind, then their skin could become dry and irritated. To thoroughly rinse a Goldendoodle, the best way to go about it is starting at the top and working your way down. Keep it systematic — also work from the front to the back. It may take a few rinses to get out all of the shampoo from their fur. Wipe them down thoroughly with a dry towel and try to soak up any excess water in their fur. Let them have a moment to run and shake themselves dry. A miniature Labradoodle puppy after a shower The next part is up to you. If you feel like the dog is dry enough, then you can let them take off. However, if you feel that they need to be dried off more, you may use a hairdryer on the lowest setting. However, that may not be the right option for every Goldendoodle because the sound does startle some. Remember to never do any grooming to the Goldendoodle while their fur is still wet. This is crucial because any extra water build-up in their ears could lead to an ear infection. Keep your pet smelling and looking good with their monthly bath. Does your Goldendoodle do well in the bath? If they are well behaved, and you would like to give their skin and coat a little more moisture, a mild conditioner or cream rinse is optional. How to Wash a Goldendoodle How to Wash a Goldendoodle Goldendoodles are a popular mix between golden retrievers and poodles, and their coats share features with both parent breeds. The coat can range from gentle waves to full-on curls, with the longest growth on legs, tail, ears, or body. All these make it easy to wash a Goldendoodle. Start with Brushing and Clipping The first step to wash a goldendoodle is to thoroughly brush the coat. Some areas are difficult to access regularly with a brush and may be prone to mats or knots. Use a sharp and well-maintained set of clippers to remove the knots. Be sure to use clippers specifically designed for dog grooming as they are better equipped to cut through dog hair than human clippers. Never use scissors to clip your goldendoodle as sudden movements could cause injuries to the dog. Shampooing The next step is to move the goldendoodle into a bathtub or washbasin for shampooing. Choosing the right dog shampoo for a goldendoodle is critical to avoid drying out their often sensitive skin. Consider mild human shampoo options such as no-tears baby shampoo or fragrance-free shampoo-plus-conditioner. Once you have the right shampoo, you can jump in with the wash. Also, consider using a dampened washcloth. Massage the soap gently to create a lather as you go. Repeat this process multiple times until all of the soap is removed. Let the goldendoodle shake itself dry as needed and then air-dry or use a blow dryer on a lower setting so as not to startle your dog or hurt its ears. While there are many types of dog shampoos available, we suggest getting a shampoo with natural ingredients such as aloe to help moisturize the skin. Avoid getting shampoo in the ears and eyes. To ensure no suds come in contact with the eyes, we use a moistened washcloth and wipe down the face and ears. Apply shampoo from the neck to tail. When shampooing the body of your goldendoodle, the shampoo should be applied directly to the coat from neck to tail. When working up lather it is important to move down the dog's body to avoid getting shampoo in the dog's eyes. During the shampooing process, a fine-toothed comb can be used to remove knots and tangles. In addition, the comb helps remove debris that can be caught in the dog's coat. The entire body, including the undercarriage, legs, tail and back should be shampooed to ensure the dog is fully clean. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Rinsing properly is important to the health of a Goldendoodle's coat and skin. When shampoo is left in the dog's fur it results in dry and irritated skin. Goldendoodles must be rinsed several times with a long shower hose that allows owners and groomers to remove all traces of shampoo from the dog's body. To avoid the possibility of shampoo getting in the dog's eyes, they should be rinsed from front to back. Blow dry. Nothing is worse than a wet dog running around your house. Invest in a dog blow dryer. This one has low temperatures which is safe for your doodle. Reward your dog. Once bath time is over follow up with praise, petting, or play. Your puppy may be a little skittish, but there are ways to keep your Doodle at ease during their first bathing experience! Your supplies should include a gentle shampoo-plus-conditioner for dogs, a dog brush made for thick fur, a towel, and, yes, a hairdryer! Let them sniff and play with the brush, then move on to gently combing through their hair. Brushing is something your puppy will need at least once a week, so it is vital to make them as comfortable as possible to ensure cooperation into their adult years. Then, gently place your puppy into a bath tub filled with warm water. They may be uncomfortable at first, but remain calm and patient, giving them as much time as they need. As they adjust to this new environment, provide lots of praise and treats! This will ensure your puppy is well socialized for a lifetime of grooming needs. Shampoo When your puppy is comfortable, move on to your shampoo! Make sure their coat is fully saturated with water and gently massage the shampoo into their fur, avoiding their eyes, mouth, and ears. Clean these sensitive areas with a damp cloth or toothbrush. Rinse them thoroughly until all of the suds are gone with a removable shower head or a large cup. Leftover shampoo can make brushing more difficult later on. After your puppy is shampooed and rinsed, you can move on to the drying process. Use a towel to wipe down your Goldendoodle and let them shake off the excess water. Pay close attention to cleaning and drying their ears, inside and out — damp, dirty ear canals can cause an infection! Drying When your puppy is damp and your towel is soaked, bring out the hairdryer! Use a low heat and velocity setting for their first blow dry to prevent nervousness. This will prepare your Goldendoodle for future trips to the groomer and the bathtub alike! When your Goldendoodle is completely dry, you can finish their grooming by giving them a thorough brush. Brushing your puppy before and after bathing will prevent uncomfortable mats and knots. Next, introduce them to the nail clippers. Socializing your Goldendoodle with nail trimming as young as possible will ensure comfortability throughout their life! Now, you have an adorable, clean puppy. That is… until their next adventure!

The nose should be symmetrical — but not the snout hair! A tongue out pose allows a splash of color. Step 4 Time to move on to the mouth. The mouth will be open, so start by drawing the tongue from the edge of the fur by the snout. The tongue should be covering most of the teeth with a bump on each side. Then draw a thin bottom lip below the tongue. Next, draw thick medium-length hair surrounding the mouth and jaw area. Step 5 Shape the head by drawing the fur between the middle of the eyes and flowing up and out to the sides of the face, getting longer the further away from the face. Ears longer than the snout — for Labradoodles and Cockapoos. Step 6 Draw the ears now and have them flopping behind slightly like he is running. Step 7 Draw a collar with a tag for a little extra personality. For the collar, draw a half-circle around the neck, add the little ring, and attach a tag. The tag can be a standard oval, or you can personalize it and make it any shape you want. This drawing is based on a photograph on my Labradoodle Max Step 8 Now move on to the body. Start with the front right leg by drawing straight lines from the body, with the paw slightly facing the viewer. Step 9 Draw the left leg now by going out towards the viewer and then drawing the paw drooping down. You will not see the paw because the fur will cover it. Details like toys or collars can add a splash of color. Step 10 Move on to the back and chest now. Connect the legs by a line with hair that will be the chest. Now, draw lines extending from the neck and the left leg outwards. That will be the back. Add fur to contour the body. Step 11 Draw the left hind leg connecting from the back and left front paw, angled toward the viewer and straight. There should be no detail on the paw as the fur will also cover it. Practice drawing wavy hair, it is a mainstay of Doodle dog drawing. Step 12 Only a tiny section of the right hind leg will be visible. Draw it out from the middle of the left back leg and have it curved down and around until it connects slightly higher up from the left hind paw. Add fur. Step 13 Now for the tail! Draw it out from the back and slightly to the side of the body to add movement to the picture. The tail should be covered in long strands of hair that appear to blow in the wind. Lots of brown… use lighter colors to highlight even if your own Labradoodle has a coat that is not light. Use black paint around the inner ears, mouth, nose, neck, chest, and right front paw. It will add shadows to the painting and give it more depth and realness. Step 15 Paint the rest of the drawing in your preferred labradoodle colors! Labradoodle drawing A standard Labradoodle is a first generation hybrid dog that is created by breeding a purebred Standard Poodle with a purebred Labrador Retriever. A website called TheDogPeople. Labradoodles also have energy to spare and need lots of exercise. Drawing a Labradoodle calls for a plan to make sure you get all that curly hair in place. The curly lines are then traced, and the light ones erased of course. This two step approach may seem like it takes more time, but in the end helps avoid a lot of extra erasing and frustrating. After all, if your light sketch looks like the beginning of a dog, then the added curls are just an added feature of a very cute Labradoodle dog. Lightly sketch the rest of the head. Draw the body and front legs, lightly. Add the back legs, very lightly. Draw over the head with wiggly lines. Add wiggly lines over the body and legs. Draw wiggly lines over back legs. Add tail, more squiggles and horizon. Trace with marker and color. Labradoodles can potentially have one of several different fur types. For starters, the color of their fur can be anything, from black, to white, to brown, or anything in between. Their fur can be short and fluffy, long and straight, or coarse and wirey. Labradoodles are hybrid animals, bread from standard Poodles and Labradors. They were bread as allergen-free guide dogs, and over time they became great family dogs. Here is a Poodle and a Labrador. Combine them and you get a Labradoodle! Step 3. Labradoodle puppies are adorable! Their fur is not very long when they are young, but it lengthens as they grow. The closely resemble Labrador puppies at this early age, but with wavy fur. Step 4. Here's a quick demonstration on how to draw their paws. First sketch in some basic guide lines. The figure on the far left will be the underside of the paw, the middle figure is the side of the front paw, and the figure on the right is the side of the hind paw. As you can see, the front paws of a dog have a large pad on the bottom with 4 smaller pads as toes. Each pad has a claw sticking out of the top. There is also a dew claw on the side of the paw and an additional pad on the back of the leg. The hind legs do not have dew claws of the fifth pad. Labradoodles have a lot of lengthy fur which tends to cover up parts of the pads and claws. From certain angles, you cannot see the pads or paws at all because of the excessive fur. Step 7. To draw a Labradoodle, we should first sketch in some basic guide lines. Use a 2H or harder pencil and draw very lightly so that the lines are easy to erase after we ink. Draw a circle for the head connected to a bean shape for the body. The dog will be running in our general direction. Start with the eyes. They should rest a little high on the head and be far apart. At this time, they will appear almost too far apart, but they will look more proportionate later on. The eyes should be teardrop shaped, but sideways. They should be very dark and surrounded by thin hair that comb around the eyes and towards the sides of the face. Next, draw the snout and nose. The nose is the shape of a bloated upside-down triangle. It has two small nostril opening and a thin slit in the middle. The fur on the snout should be short on the top and longer on the sides. It should be blowing in the wind somewhat and the strands should cluster together into points. Draw the lower jaw and mouth. The mouth should be open so the chin should hang well below the circular guide line. The tongue should be hanging out slightly, covering most of the teeth. Keep in mind that the lower canine teeth will cause the tongue to rise up as it falls on top of them, creating humps on either side of the end of the tongue. There should be a thin lip along the edge of the mouth. The fur of the lower jaw should be thick, but not too long. Now draw the shape of the head. Notice how the fur starts in the middle of the eyes and combs back evenly in all directions. The fur gets longer as it get further away from the face. Step .The ears should be large and flapping in the wind as the dog runs. Be sure to draw the underside of the ears, but since there is so much long hair on the ears, we should not be able to see details of the inner ears. To give more character to the illustration, give the dog a collar and tag. We should only be able to see a small portion of the collar at this angle, but it should wrap around the neck creating a partial circle shape. The dog tag can be any shape you wish, be it a bone, fire hydrant, oval, or in this case a circle. It should be attached to the collar by a metal ring. Let's move down to the body. Draw the right leg very straight and pointing towards us slightly. We should be able to see the pads of the foot as the dog takes a step forward. The fur on the legs should be pointing downwards and be thinner on the back of the leg. Don't forget to draw the tips of the claws sticking through the fur a little bit. The left leg should be bent upwards and the paw should be dangling down. The top of the paw will be covered with hair so that we cannot see and details of the paw. Next, draw the back and chest of the dog. The back should have plenty of hair strands combed over one another, but we should only be able to see a small portion of the dog's chest since the left leg is raised so high. The fur on the chest should loosely hang down. Also draw lots of strands of hair on the side of the dog's body that are blown back in the wind. The left hind leg should be very straight and pointing towards us as it is planted firmly in the ground. It should be almost parallel to the front right leg. Again, the paw will be covered in fur and we won't be able to see details. The upper portion of the leg should be hidden from view behind the left front leg. We should only be able to see a small portion of the right hind leg. The paw and lower half of the leg should be visible behind the left hind leg. The paw should be higher up than the left paw at this angle. Finally, draw the end of the tail behind the dog. It can be pointing in pretty much any direction you wish, since dog tails move freely as they run. Just be sure to draw it covered with many long strands of hair that blow in the wind. We can now ink our image! Use either a brush and ink or Micron markers. A brush works best since you can feather the fur and easily create fine tips that gradually get thicker as they near the body of the dog. Be patient and be careful not to erase any unneeded guide lines. When the ink has dried, erase the pencil marks with a kneaded eraser. You can add a greater sense of depth to the image by giving it a little shadow. Our dog is light colored, so don't add too many heavy shadows. Again, a brush works great for feathering the dark to light. Add shadow to the underside of the ears, the side of the nose, the inside of the mouth, the underside of the head, and underneath the chest. Also black out the pads of the paws. And that's pretty much it! If you need to make corrections, you can use white ink or opaque white paint. You can also use it to add more highlights to the fur if needed. That's how you draw a Labradoodle! Good job!

Are White German Shepherds Rare? There are historical reasons for that. As mentioned earlier, the white coat gene is recessive in GSDs. That made it hard for breeders to produce litters of all White German puppies. Over time, whiteness became an undesirable trait in the GSD. Any surviving White GSDs were summarily slaughtered. In the s, the American Kennel Club disallowed the participation of American White Shepherds in conformation shows. Twenty years later, the Canadian Kennel Club would do the same thing. Despite or possibly because of the restrictions on white GSDs, breeders kept the dog alive. They both have erect ears, a square-cut jaw, a curvy yet athletic body, and a long brush-like tail. Males stand between 24 to 26 inches at the shoulder, while females are slightly smaller at 22 to 24 inches. Eye color is usually dark brown but can be anywhere between light amber to dark mahogany. White GSDs can be long-haired or short-haired. Since they have different hair lengths, they each have their unique grooming requirements. At the very least, a White German Shepherd should be able to exercise for two hours a day. Anything that a German Shepherd can do, he can do too. And hey, you have the added bonus of turning heads whenever this dog walks down the street. When properly socialized, the White German Shepherd makes for a loyal and protective companion. In front of strangers, he can be wary. But in front of his family, he can be a total sweetheart. See, the White German Shepherd is a pack animal. Like all pack animals, he has a tendency to look to a pack leader i. Teach him the house rules once he reaches the age of 8 to 14 weeks — old enough to be weaned, young enough to be trainable. But before you make him jump through hoops literally and figuratively , be sure to master the basics first. Start with the thing that everyone loves most: The sound of their own name. Rinse and repeat until he does what you want him to do. Also, use consistent and positive reinforcement. Whenever he does something right, make sure to reward him in some way. As for the short-haired white GSD, he has the same grooming requirements as standard German Shepherds. Unlike his long-haired cousins, he has an undercoat that protects him against the elements. He also has natural oils that keep debris off his fur, so be careful not to bathe him too much and risk stripping off those oils. Both long-haired and short-haired White German Shepherds are heavy shedders, especially during the warm season. To prevent matting and tangles that could potentially cause skin infections, give your white GSD a brush at least once a week. Check his ears for smelly discharge and other signs of infection. Gently wipe any dirt around his eyes, nose and other parts of his body. Brush his teeth at least once every other day. Remember that those numbers do not include the cost of vaccinations, food, supplies, toys, training and other essentials for a healthy dog. Be aware, however, that you will get what you pay for. For example, the dog might come from an inferior lineage. Dog shelters are also great places to look for all White German Shepherd puppies. Of course, the Internet is a great source of white GSD sellers. Wherever you get your dog from, make sure you do a background check on both the seller and the puppy. Does the seller genuinely care about breeding dogs, or are they just popping out puppies for profit? Does the puppy himself have a history of aggression? These are just a few of the questions you should ask when deciding whether a dog is right for you. Is this the breed for you? Bear in mind that, while each breed has their general characteristics, every dog will have an individual personality. Your white GSD can be outgoing and lively, or shy and withdrawn. Our Puppy Test A high scoring, happy puppy, completes her puppy test! At six and eight weeks of age we start testing our puppies for intelligence and temperament. Our unique test which we formulated based upon several for the German Shepherd breed is the reason our dogs are "Rock Stars" in the dog world. Part of our philosophy is based upon the fact that virtually ALL dogs have one of three motivations; food, toys, or human motivation. To qualify as a true "Polarbear" and future parent of our puppies, our dogs must be highly human motivated. Whether our clients come and meet us in person or choose to have us deliver their puppy, a video conference is required. This "Meet and Greet" interview allows our dogs to see, hear, and smell not just yet! It is amazing how this works, but it does. Our clients get to watch us demonstrate some of our testing. Adoption Procedure We have many wonderful rescues available. You can preview most of the rescues here on our website, but it may not be complete as we get new intakes regularly. The best thing to do is to contact Renee to discuss your particular situation and which rescue may be a good fit for you or you can just show up during our regular adoption hours to meet the rescues and we can work with you to find a good match. We have regular adoption hours most Saturday's between 8am - 11am, or by appointment. We suggest you come early as we can get quite busy as the morning progresses. You must be here at least by 10AM as it takes at least an hour to meet and get to know a dog, do an introduction with your dog and fill out the adoption paperwork. These are private appointments and must be set up with her before coming out by calling .We are not usually available on Sundays. Getting a dog is an important decision, and all members of the household must be present including children. If you have another dog, you must bring them with you in order for us to evaluate whether one of our rescues will be a good fit for your family. We suggest having them crated in the car. Proof of home ownership or a letter stating landlord permission is required. When Considering a ROF Adoption Your donation at the time of an adoption is not a fee to buy a dog; it is a donation for the service we provide. It is not refundable. Your donation may be claimed as a tax deductible donation, and furthers our efforts to do as much as we can for as many as we can. We incur significant expenses in paying redemption fees, veterinary fees, transportation costs, boarding, and food costs and ask for an adoption donation for each dog. Your donation offsets a portion of those costs, but in no event exceeds the amount of care actually provided. All donations are applied to our rescue program to further the ROF mission. Rescuing an animal is a commitment. They are not perfect, and in most cases ROF will have limited information about the dog's history. ROF makes its placements based on our evaluation of the dogs, and decades of experience handling dogs and matching dogs to appropriate owners. In addition, we rely on the information provided by our prospective adopters; honesty is the best policy when discussing a potential rescue. Despite the number of dogs in need of homes, it may be that ROF does not have a rescue suitable for your particular situation. Children and other pets are but a few factors that we consider in placing a rescue. The determination to place or not to place any animal is made in ROF's sole discretion. We are advocates for the animals, and it is our goal to do what is best for the dog. Your new companion may have accidents, bark, jump, chew or require regular exercise. No dog is perfect and even a good natured, obedient and trained dog may create stress in the home initially. Please keep in mind that you may love your new pet on Day 1, but it may take some time for your new family member to feel secure in their new environment. Be respectful that you are a stranger to them and not do too much too soon. A crate is an excellent tool for training; we recommend continued crate training as part of a successful transition into your home. These are just some of the things ROF expects potential adopters to consider before making the decision to rescue. ROF offers a six week basic obedience class that runs consecutively year round. We work on basic handling skills and the "heel", "sit", "stay", "down", and "come" commands. ROF rescues can come to the classes as often as they like, free of charge. The class is open to all breeds and is not limited to ROF rescues. ROF is available to discuss specific questions or circumstances for the life of your dog. If for some reason, you can no longer honor your commitment to the dog. They cannot be sold, given away, placed on "craigslist", or brought to a shelter. ROF is a Forever Home for these animals and in the event they must be returned they must be returned to us. This boy had a wonderful owner who totally loved him but due to a life change the owner had to give him up. It was heartbreaking for both of them but now Whiskey needs a new loving Forever Family for a retirement home. We are having an adoption morning tomorrow October 8th so come on out and meet him!! Frodo came to us from a shelter having had surgery done on his cherry eye problem. So by the time Rotts of Friends received him, the surgery has been completely undone. A wonderful vet Dr Louie from Antioch offered to redo his eyes for us and with the help of a cone, his surgery was an amazing success! Frodo needs some obedience training but is a very happy carefree young dog. He loves nothing better than to pick up truck tires and move them from place to place! He is a gentle, well trained boy. Tobi is very loving and bonds with his human buddies. He has some stranger danger issues and can become very protective of his family so will do best in a single owner or adult family home. Roofus is very friendly and likes playing with other dogs. He is currently enrolled in obedience training classes. Roofus is tall, healthy and full of energy. He acts like a five year old. He walks well on leash and knows some commands.
