Bubba has somewhat of a baby face and is a very sweet boy! He loves to play and particularly likes rope and rubber toys. Bubba is quite strong and would need a capable owner. Considering Bubba's history, he may be unhappy being around certain dogs, and he seems a bit dog aggressive at times. If you have another dog, you may want to bring it along for a visit with Bubba. Bubba will need some supervision in house training. We recommend possibly crating at night and if left alone during the day. Bubba will also need a secure fence in his new home. He is 6. A very friendly, sweet puppy who is full of energy. Dakota likes to be around people. He has had a bit of training, and can 'sit' on command. Daisy Daisy is a mix breed, possibly some Chihuahua in the mix. Daisy was an owner surrender, due to jealousy with their other pet, and they preferred to keep their smaller pet. He was left at the front of our shelter with his crate, food, treats, blankets, toys, harness, leash, etc. We wish we knew his previous name, but we have named him Dante. This is a handsome dog who has been well taken care of. A bit hard to tell from these pictures, but his coat coloring is black and white. The white is on chest and all 4 paws front and back of paws. Dante seems to really like other dogs and wants to play with them all. He was frightened when first coming out of the crate, but so friendly now. This is a sweet boy that you will want to meet. She wanted Delilah to have a new home where she could exercise and play. She is a sweet girl, who loves to cuddle and get attention. She loves to go for walks, play in pools and her favorite treat just might be peanut butter! It's difficult to break them up, if they happen to get into a scuffle. She may be ok with older male dogs, or as an only dog in your household. Probably best to go to a home with older children as well. Delilah is apparently housetrained but we do recommend supervision in a new home, possibly crating her at night and when she is home alone in the day until she can be taught the house rules. Dusty Dusty is about 1 year old and is a Boxer mix. He was abandoned in front of SPCA shelter today. He's a handsome boy, and one who is very friendly and sweet with people; kids and all. He also seems okay with other dogs. His coat coloring is reddish tan, brown and white. We know Dusty needs a good home. We don't know about house training, so he may need instruction. She is about 1 year of age, and may actually be full grown. Harlan is a sweet, friendly girl. She is crate trained, and active and playful. She seems okay with other dogs. Some bad habits to watch for: may like to dig and even run off, if left without supervision. Harlan is an escape artist for sure! She has been adopted a couple times, but is now back at our shelter. We will be working on getting her a 'forever home'. She is well-mannered, and Jade deserves the best of homes. Please make sure that you have a secure fence to keep Jade home and safe. This type breed is known to be escape artists if they are left alone in the back yard for long periods without attention. We don't know Jade's background in house training so she may need supervision in a new home environment. We recommend possibly crating Jade at night and when home alone in the day to help with the process. He is good with other dogs and is housebroken. Jax is small to medium in size. He is very sweet and cuddly around people. He does have some food aggression, so would need to be fed separately from other dogs. He should not live with cats. Come meet Jax. She is a good looking, white with black spotted dog, who is medium in size. She seems a bit kennel aggressive with other dogs, so should probably be an 'only dog'. Khloe is also picky as to the people she likes. We don't know if she is housebroken. Will certainly need instruction in a new home environment, as she has been at the shelter awhile. This is not a dog for a home with young children. He was abandoned, out in the country, along with his brother Butterscotch. Coat coloring is brindle. Kibbles can be adopted, but won't be able to go for awhile, as needs shots and sterilization. Lacey Lacey is a young, female Pitt Bull Terrier mix. She was found and brought to our shelter; no owner or family found since that time. She is now an SPCA dog, available for adoption. Her pretty coat coloring is chocolate and white. Lacey is super sweet and cuddly. She gets along with other dogs. Lacey loves toys, but really likes tearing them up, so will need heavy duty toys, and no stuffing for sure. We don't know about house training, and she may need instruction in a new home. We also have her sister Sassy. They have been together their entire life and hope to be adopted together. Lexi is shy and you may need to visit her a few times before taking her home. She prefers a woman owner and no small children. She will need someone with lots of patience and love. She was abandoned while at a groomer location, and has now been brought to our shelter. Lila weighs 25 pounds, so a good sized girl for a Terrier mix. This is a lively one, who needs a family and someone to play with. Lila seems good with other dogs. Coat coloring is black with white. He was an owner surrender. This is a handsome senior guy who is quite the sweetheart. Little Man spent a day-vacation at Canine Country Club and they said he was a well mannered, mellow guy. He enjoyed the bath, massage and naptime. In the play yard he first strolled through all the sprinklers and sniffed everything! He was not interested in play at the time considering there were so many new things! He met some other pups and was calm and polite. By the end of his visit he shared smiles and tail wags. He has a manageable tick disease which requires no treatment unless he has an occasional flare up which is easily handled with an antibiotic from your vet. She is active and playful and is crate trained. She's small to medium in size, and quite the cutie; likes to stand at and for attention! Lola likes children and adults. He has had limited training, but 'sits' well. His bad habit is chewing on things- so he will need appropriate chew toys and instruction. Milo Milo is a 2 year old, Chihuahua mix. He was owner surrendered, due to not having enough room for all their dogs. Milo's coat coloring is tan. He is good with other dogs and is active and playful. Needs instruction in house training. We are told Milo likes children and adults. He doesn't like loud noises. He came in with his friend Brittney. She was an owner surrender, due to moving and no room for her. Miss Bella is a beautiful girl and appears to be people friendly. However, it does take Miss Bella a little time to warm up to people, so may need to meet her, and even have a few visits before she can go home with someone. This dog has been the best companion, we live near Peoria Illinois now and my lab is probably the most popular dog of our family. Everyone loves her! The Lab was a working dog used during hunting pursuits and the hunting fraternity heavily favored the Black Labrador over all other colors. And so red labs were relatively uncommon. But in a reversal of the trend today, in the early days of the breed the more common shades of yellow that existed were dark yellow to fox red. The lighter shades of yellow and cream that we think of as normal today, were actually quite rare. In fact, the first ever registered yellow was a dark golden color. However, through the mid to late s, lighter shades of yellow and cream became more fashionable and breeders sought to selectively breed for these colors. This is mostly my opinion and not concrete fact, but the two theories I have on why the lighter colors of Yellow Labradors became more common are: Firstly, during the early years of the breed the darker yellows and reds were more common. So when a pale cream or very light yellow was born, it seemed more exotic, rarer and hence more desirable. So breeders started to selectively breed for these colors and hence less and less reds were born. Secondly, since the middle s, a famous brand of British toilet paper, Andrex has used a pale Yellow Labrador in their television adverts. Their adverts went on to be shown in over countries for over 35 years. Most colors centered on a cream to light golden color. The dark yellows and reds fell out of fashion. But in the last 10 or 15 years, the range of available shades in the Yellow Labrador have once again widened. They stood out among the crowd and so they were more desired. This caused breeders to try to match the demand and selectively breed for lighter colors. Due to a lack of popularity of the dark red coat colors, it all but disappeared. But this new-found rarity in turn made the darker red Labs more desirable. So now there are many breeders who are selectively breeding to try to obtain litters of reds to meet the demand of people who want the rarer color. Things have turned full circle. Controversy Around The Red And Darker Yellow Shades Being uncommon in comparison to the black, paler yellow and chocolate shades does make some people question the red Labradors pedigree. They question whether in fact they are a pure bred Labrador or not? However, unlike the so-called Silver Labrador Retriever that is surrounded by accusations of outcrossing Labradors with Weimaraners to introduce the diluted coat color to the breed, no such controversy surrounds the darker colors of Yellow and Red Labradors. They are a genuine, pure bred Labrador, with a history going back to the earliest days of the breed. Another controversy is the fact that Fox Red Labrador breeders charge a far higher price than breeders do for the more traditional colors of the breed. They advertise their dogs as being a rare breed and charge a premium. There is some truth in this, but this controversy also follows many other breeds and colors of dogs. Are Breeders of Reds Irresponsible? There is some evidence to support this in a very few small cases, but there are some highly responsible breeders too and I think the good do outnumber the bad. Many people have asked if different colored Labs have different temperaments. Is the Fox Red Lab temperament different from the other Lab colors? In our experience, no a Fox Red lab has the same loving, friendly temperament as black, yellow, and chocolate Labs. The crusty stuff is actually skin and hurts your dog if you pick it off, just like us pulling a scab off a skinned knee too soon. If you stop using Nose Butter, the dryness and crust will probably come back. When our hands are really cracked and dry we can use lotion to get them in shape, but we can't slather lotion on our hands once and be moisturized for life. Like cutting your dog's toenails.Nose Butter is part of their health care regimen. That stung! It's not that your dog dislikes Nose Butter we hope not , they DO dislike being held tightly and restrained. Bully and flat-faced breeds already have compromised breathing systems due to their adorable flat faces. If held tightly they will struggle to protect their breathing. Toy breeds know they are small and will often put up an unbelievable tussle to get away. Dogs are often triggered by being held tightly or controlled. This may come from puppy play, when they wrestle and play-fight. It's not fun for dogs or us to have siblings pile on and make us feel helpless. I'm looking at my three sisters. If a Labrador has an undesirable trait, their offspring likely will, too. We immediately put down our deposit and anxiously waited for the conformation that the first pick male would be ours! We could always count on Glennda to post exciting videos and images. Our 4-hour drive was full of anticipation! Glennda and her family were both friendly and professional. They answered all our questions and immediately showed Franklin to us. Glennda even checked up on us the following weeks to make sure Franklin was making a good transition. We were so glad that he was already crate trained and potty trained! Since then, almost 4-month-old Franklin has begun puppy training classes. He is learning new commands every week! Franklin loves taking walks and running in the backyard with soccer balls. Hunting: Training Abe to retrieve birds consisted of 15 minutes a couple times a week. His drive to keep working in a pattern to find the bird was all him. For September dove season, I decided to take Abe 7months old hunting with a group to see how he would do. Duck season 9months old was much the same, once he got a smell of a duck, Abe was on it and retrieved 36 ducks. He again worked good with other dogs and again performed blind retrieves on ducks that sailed further than expected. Abe is typically by my side when hanging around the house, but definitely knows when I am loading up the truck to hunt, and then he will not leave the truck. Family Member: Every day I can count on Abe playing with my kids. I can also count on either seeing them laying on Abe or Abe laying on them. You can tell Simpsons love each pup that is born. I have zero prior bird training experience, but SLR gives them a huge jump start by getting them out swimming, helping to break them of being gun shy and retrieving live birds all before 8 weeks old. Sadly, criminals have been creating realistic websits claiming to sell Labrador puppies however all images and videos have been stolen online. The puppy is not in the scammers possession. Tips for Avoiding Online Labrador puppy Scams Ask for multiple pictures of the pet, including poses with specific items a recent newspaper, a tennis ball, etc. Ask for a phone number for the person selling the puppy and a veterinary clinic the pet has been to. If they do give the phone numbers, call and ask questions. If the seller says they are in a particular state but asks you to send money elsewhere, especially another country, avoid it. If the person is claiming to be a breeder, ask for breeder registration information. Never pay in cash via Zelle, Cashapp, money order or Western Union. Pet insurance is NOT required for a pet to be shipped or to travel. Do research to get a sense of what a fair price is for the breed you are interested in adopting. Think twice if they are selling a purebred puppy for free or at a very low price for the breed. It should be a red flag if e-mail communications have broken English or very poor grammar. Adopting a new Labrador puppy is an exciting time. Your best bet is to find an ethical breeder or a reputable local rescue group or shelter. Because it is a mixed dog breed, it is not recognized by the American Kennel Club. It is known for being a good companion dog that is a great family pet and can adapt well to almost any living situation. This designer breed has an affectionate, gentle nature and a fun-loving, charming personality. Maltipoos tends to be open and friendly. They get along well with children, other pets, other dogs, and strangers. They can be prone to barking, which makes them an alert watchdog. Socialization and training early on can help you direct the urge to bark towards more positive outlets and help your dog understand what they should bark at and what is okay for them to ignore. The Maltipoo is a devoted dog that loves attention and lots of cuddles. Maltipoos are highly adaptable. They do well in any family type, from large families to single owners and everything between. They get along well with children, but younger children should be closely supervised and taught early on how to interact appropriately with a dog.
