Great Pyrenees also known as the Pyrenean Mountain Dog are huge, majestic dogs. Known for their unconditional love for family, guardian instincts against intruders, and elegant thick white coats, Pyrenees are well-known as livestock protectors as well as wonderful family dogs. Great Pyrenees typically rank as being excellent family dogs; very friendly with their family and great with kids. There are five main reasons many people consider a Pyredoodle a better fit for their family than a Purebred Pyrenees: Hypoallergenic: The Poodles' non-shedding coat is hypo-allergenic. Because the poodle coat is the dominant gene, many poodle crosses often called doodles get the non-shedding coat. This is particularly the case with thick coated dogs like the Great Pyrenees. Families who want an inside dog appreciate a low-to-non shedding coat that the Pyredoodle offers. Trainable: Great Pyrenees are not recommended for novice dog owners. Because of their stubborn streak, Pyrenees can be difficult to train. By contrast Poodles are extremely easy to train. They are the most frequently used dog in circus acts or on shows like America's Got Talent, because they are extremely intelligent, eager to please, and easy to train. Pyredoodles are much easier to house train and teach other basic training commands than a pure Great Pyrenees. Most Pyredoodle owners find their Pyredoodle puppy to be eager to please and pleasant to train. Healthy: The Great Pyrenees lifespan is usually years. On average, doodles live years longer than that. Hybrid vigor the added strength by combining different breeds causes doodles to typically be healthy. Because Poodles are far less likely to develop Gastric Torsion bloat , hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, Addison's disease, or Entropian than Great Pyrenees, the Pyredoodle is much less likely to struggle with these health issues that are common in a purebed Pyrenees. Quieter: The Great Pyrenees are known for their incredible watch dog ability, which means that most of them bark--quite a bit. We intentionally cross the Great Pyrenees with very quiet poodles. Pyredoodles can be bred with a variety of color combinations much greater than that of a purebred AKC Great Pyrenees. Most families who have owned a Great Pyrenees have fallen in love with their devoted, affectionate, family protector. They've learned to live with their drawbacks, but in private conversation they might tell you that if only their beloved pet "didn't bark quite so much, wasn't quite so stubborn, didn't shed all that hair, and lived longer than 11 years they would be the PERFECT dog. With any mixed breed it's impossible to perfectly predict the outcome of the hybrid, but so far Pyredoodles have been met with enthusiastic response. Pyredoodle owners love their devoted, affectionate nature, low-to-non shedding coats, more quiet temperaments, and outstanding intuition. Pyredoodles are perhaps the best of all doodles for being like a "nanny"--entirely devoted to children and small animals. Pyredoodles love to protect small things. They are one of the only doodle breeds that can function as a watch dog. Most doodles are just as likely to lick as intruder as to bark. Pyredoodles tend to be fine with "strangers" who are welcomed by the family, but anyone that is uninvited will be very suspect to a typical Pyredoodle. Since Poodles love to stay close to home, a Pyredoodle is much less likely to wander than a purebred Great Pyrenees. However, we still recommend that all Pyredoodle owners to have a fence. Great Pyrenees can be wanderers. Pyrenees are believed to have descended from huge dogs that wandered the mountains of Asia thousands of years ago. Great Pyrenees History For generations, Pyrenees have been the world's most famous livestock protectors. It is deeply ingrained in the Pyrenees to protect the young, small, and helpless. They're the best friend of children and small animals. Pyrenees were accorded royalty status by becoming the famous guardians of French royalty for generations. The young French prince instantly fell in love with this elegant giant dog that was so loving towards him and protective. The eight year old prince brought the Pyrenees back to live with him at the Louvre. Several aristocratic French families fell in love with the prince's Great Pyrenees and bought their own. A few decades later the Great Pyrenees had transformed from a country guard dog to the official French dog of royalty. Today the breed has been popularized by it's many appearances in movies and TV shows. Because of their devoted, affectionate nature, Great Pyrenees are used as therapy and service dogs. Because of their guardian instincts to care for their own, while protecting against enemies, many Pyrenees are still used as livestock guardians throughout the world today. They are gorgeous, majestic, head-turners. As large as the Newfiedoodle and Saint Berdoodle, Pyredoodles look more majestic, regal and statuesque than most other large dog breeds, which often are described as cuddly, or teddy bear like. Many people who own Pyredoodles talk about the head-turner nature of their dog. You'll be asked by people everywhere about your huge white, thick coated, straight-standing attentive, nanny dog. Because of the independent nature of the Great Pyrenees, we typically do not recommend the Pyredoodle for a first time dog owner. We also like to point out to families that this is the only doodle we breed that has watch dog characteristics. Many families appreciate the watch dog nature of the Pyredoodle who sees itself as a protector of the family, but others desire a gentle giant Newfiedoodle who lumbers around the house and almost never barks--a dog who would roll over on its back when someone knocks on the door. Men and women alike tend to love Pyredoodles. We've found that some doodles i. The Pyredoodle has strong appeal to both men and women. Many men love the thought of a huge majestic guard dog, and women love the Pyredoodles' nanny nature, love for family, and gorgeous white coat. Like any dog, it's important to train the Pyredoodle at an early age, so that your majestic guardian is well trained from its earliest months. Pyredoodles have great appeal to families who were considering a Sheepadoodle. Old English Sheepdogs are originally herding dogs, similar to the livestock protection nature of the Pyredoodle. Pyredoodles tend to be a little larger than Sheepadoodles, calmer than Sheepadoodles, much less nippy as puppies, and much less likely to try to "herd" children. Many families that initially contact Crockett Doodles interested in a Sheepadoodle end up wanting a Pyredoodle instead after further research. Our dogs and goats are loved on daily with extra special attention given to our pregnant mamas. Since we only have one litter of puppies per year, we can spend time with each puppy and give them the best start at life. While mama Bishop is pregnant, we supplement her feed with free range chicken eggs and pet her extra every day. Studies have shown that relaxed and pampered mama dogs give birth to calmer, happier puppies. After birth, the puppies stay with mama to be fed, comforted, and cleaned. We handle the puppies daily to get them used to human interactions right from the start. On day three, we start early neurological stimulation ENS. ENS consists of four short movements for each puppy that stimulate the nervous system daily. ENS is completed through day 16 and more information about it can be found here. We watch our puppies closely and when they first startle at a noise, we begin habituation exercises. They normally start hearing around two weeks and we want them to hear a new noise daily after that. Noises we ensure they hear include, but are not limited to: vacuum, hairdryer, dropped pans, kids screaming, and cows mooing. As the puppies grow, we introduce them to new experiences and people. Dogs do not generalize so they need to meet people of all ages, shapes, sizes, colors, and clothing choices. Our puppies are socialized with kids daily since we have kids so they will be very ready for human siblings! To begin the weaning process, we give the puppies goat milk from our grass fed, holistically raised goats. Their first foods include raw goat meat cuts before they are transitioned to puppy food. Their puppy food is soaked in homemade bone broth to soften it while they are still little. Some Pyredoodles do have separation anxiety, so we make sure each puppy gets individual time away from their siblings daily. While this does not guarantee the dog will not develop separation anxiety, it should help reduce the chances. Our puppies are also introduced to a crate. They are allowed to explore the crate at their leisure and learn that it is a safe place to relax or nap. Once the pups show an interest in treats, clicker training begins. All pups learn basic clicker training and are taught to sit, rather than jump up, when they want attention. Although the puppies mainly live in our detached garage turned puppy palace, we give them inside time daily. We know our puppies will eventually be family dogs, so they need to feel comfortable inside and out. They learn at a young age to poop outside their sleeping and indoor area. It takes a bit longer with pee, but they will have the basic idea of where to go potty when they go home. Our Pyredoodle puppies are only available once per year, and we accept deposits once pregnancy is confirmed. While we cannot guarantee coloring or gender, we do our best to match puppy personality with families on our waitlist. Contact us now to chat about availability and upcoming litters! A doodle is less likely to shed than its purebred, non-poodle parent. Based on the history of the Poodle, most doodles do well with kids, are gentle, and tolerant. What is a Pyredoodle? The Great Pyrenees is a large dog known for their love for family, guardian instincts, and thick white coats that shed a lot. They are often utilized as livestock guardian dogs, like our mama dog, Bishop. They normally seem very calm but can jump to action if a threat is detected. The Standard Poodle is a very intelligent, athletic dog known for its versatility and desire to please. They are affectionate with family, good with children, and very playful. They do not shed and are less likely to drool than other breeds. A Pyredoodle inherits many of these wonderful traits from both breeds. They are known for being the protectors of the house. Normally calm and gentle, they will notify their families of any perceived threat. What type of socialization will my puppy have? We raise our puppies using Puppy Culture methods. Puppy Culture is a training program that produces confident, balanced, easy to train dogs. Puppies will be introduced to as many different sights, sounds, and experiences as possible before they go home with you. We will also start clicker training with your pup and each puppy is sent home with their own clicker to continue training. They will want further training, of course, since training is so fun! And it is a great bonding experience for everyone involved. How big do Pyredoodles get? Based on the size of Mama Bishop and Dad Jazz, our puppies are estimated to grow to pounds. When can my puppy come home? Puppies are generally weaned and ready to go to their forever homes between weeks of age. We will plan a time that works for all of us once you have selected a puppy. How can I reserve a puppy? Can I visit my puppy before bringing them home? We encourage visitors as it is good for socializing the puppies. We do ask that all visitors are feeling healthy and have not been around sick dogs, though. What type of dog food are puppies started on? Puppies eat Taste of the Wild grain-free puppy recipe food. It can be found on Amazon here. We soak the puppy food in homemade bone broth to soften it while they are still little. Your puppy will be sent home with enough food for a few days worth of meals. How many puppies in a litter? Litter sizes vary, but are generally between pups. How many boys and girls per litter? This also varies. The generation in dogs reflects if the puppies are purebred or hybrid. P1 is the parent generation or purebred such as a Great Pyrenees, Standard Poodle, etc. When two P1 generations are bred, the resulting puppies are considered F1. Normally, the F1 dog is bred back to a Poodle, but technically, any back cross is an F1b cross. The F1 is half Poodle and half Great Pyrenees. When a dog from that type of cross is then bred to a Poodle, the amount of Poodle DNA inherited from parents is increased, and the non-shedding trait enhanced. In theory, an F1b should be less likely to shed and more hypoallergenic than either an F1 or an F2.

I met Alicia through a friend, and she really helped me narrow down our decision, answering all my questions, with all things puppy new doggie Mom here We are so happy with Harlow, she is a micro Bernedoodle that loves to snuggle: I never knew how deeply we would fall in love, and so over the moon, to give our 3 children, the chance to experience this kind of unconditional, furry love! Thank you so much Alicia, Lexi, and Emme, and the Marshall family, for our sweet blessing. I came across Highfalutin Furry Babies, I found that no other breeder could compare to the level of love Alicia and Lexi put into their program!! She is constantly Giving Back, with all these amazing donations I think i cry almost every time I see a puppy donated, it absolutely warms my heart. I am more than honored to be able to support Alicia and Lexi!! It was so worth the wait just like everyone of the Highfalutin members told me it would be. I trusted them and put my faith into the program! One year later from the time I committed to a Highfalutin furry baby my puppy was hand delivered to me personally by Alicia. She spent two hours with us going over all kinds of information and details! Just what I was looking for, a very thorough breeder! It is now one week of having the puppy Home. He is an absolute joy! So smart! He knows a few commands already and he is just a few days shy of 10 weeks. He loves to snuggle with his Momma. Alicia we love you and your family and what you stand for. There are no words to express how grateful we are for you making sure our Christmas miracle came true!! Love The Potrzuski Family! He has surpassed even my wildest expectations. This is not because I enjoy talking about myself, but because it will show you how even the most clueless and inexperienced person in the world with dogs who defies all expectations about a dog owner fall in love with a HFFB baby. I'm 38 years old, single, never been married, no kids. Live in Los Angeles and work in the entertainment industry. The epitome of a bachelor. I've never had a dog before ever as a child. Instantly, I fell in love, but I knew having a dog that large would be tough. When a close family friend recommended Alicia and a bernedoodle, I did my research and realized my dream could become a reality. And then it happened. My Oscar moved to LA June 26th. He received additional training and after only two weeks, he is sleeping through the night, following commands including sit, wait, fetch, heel, etc and he is so excited to see me that he acts like he won Powerball. No one except my mother when I was an infant has ever felt this way about me haha! Oscar loves his crate, takes treats from neighbors and friends and smiles, eats regularly, enjoys his toys and being petted, and every single person in my social circle either loves him after meeting him or is dying to meet him. If I can do this as someone with ZERO dog experience, it will be a walk in the park for you and your family. Now to Alicia. Wow where do I even start: Alicia is one of the most caring and loving people I have ever met. She truly adores animals and treats them like her own children. They live in the home with her. Her passion jumps off the page and it makes a huge difference in the temperament of Oscar. Everything Alicia does is top-notch. From the amazing private support group on Facebook to the instructive breeding information to the recommendations of food, toys, and all equipment, she makes it so you absolutely cannot fail as a dog parent. Most of the dogs have their own Instagram pages and we all follow and support each other. In a time of divisiveness in our country, Alicia and her community provides a rare dose of positive energy that brings people so much happiness. In addition, I have made friends in Los Angeles with the parents of Oscar's siblings and Oscar's cousin and we have had play dates already! I message the mom of Oscar's brother Glover who lives in Boston a few times a week. We all compare notes and try to do better everyday and become better dog parents. Every single opportunity is given to the furry baby or the child to succeed. Alicia is like the principal of the school who makes the magic happen. But there are also guardians like Kamal and Natalie who are equally amazing who volunteer their time to make this community possible. Everything is buttoned up. There's nothing like it. Thanks for reading this long review, but I can't say enough about Alicia and Highfalutin. If you are just looking for a dog, HFFB might not be the right fit. But, if you want the best for your puppy and you feel like your puppy is part of the family and you are a responsible and loving person ready for an amazing and life changing experience, Highfalutin Furry Babies is the place for you. I guarantee it! Alicia does an amazing job of understanding the personalities of the puppies, matching them with owners and their lifestyles, as well as providing support to prospective and new owners. She always takes time to answer questions and support new owners. I am beyond thrilled with her caring nature and amazing knowledge of the breed. We were so lucky to find her!! She has created a supportive community of owners who answer questions and share experiences. What a wonderful breeder!! I cannot say enough amazing things about Highfalutin Furry Babies!!! Another awesome perk is that being a member of the HFFB family means we are all connected on social media as a community. We have a go to spot to ask questions, share advice, and make friends with fellow HFFB pawrents. We are so happy we went with Highfalutin Furry Babies! Alicia breeds the cutest furry babies and takes great care to ensure their health and positive traits. He was easy to train and is so smart. Our Brody was definitely worth the wait! I was a bit apprehensive when I started looking as we already have another dog at home that is perfect. How could another dog compare? Would we be disappointed? Well, she has completely stolen our hearts and I, like every high falutin furry baby parent, believe she is the best dog in the world. It was such a fun experience picking her up from the airport. No question was left unanswered and we felt totally prepared heading home. She is the happiest and most social dog I have ever encountered, and everyone that meets her, loves her. Our real life stuffed animal, adored by all! She is so smart and so very, very special. We feel incredibly blessed to call her ours. We are forever grateful to Alicia and her family for bringing these incredible dogs into the world. Trust the process. Initially wanting a boy, especially after losing our Winston, we were surprised and delighted when Alicia mentioned a girl. Piper was worth the wait! She is always happy, gentle, sweet natured, funny and just blends in with our family perfectly. Thank you Marshall family for an amazing dog! We spent years researching doodle breeds and breeders, and I never felt more confident throughout our research as I did once I found Highfalutin Furry Babies. As soon as we put our deposit down and joined the waiting list, we felt like a part of the family. Alicia, Lexie and Emme have built a wonderful community of families who are ready and able to support whenever and however needed. We waited a year for our Stevie Ray and, boy, was he worth the wait. Stevie slept through the night after just two nights at home, was near potty trained at only three months and is the star student in his puppy class. We are so in love with Stevie Ray, and we have Alicia to thank for bringing him into our lives. We cannot thank the Marshall family enough. Best decision of our lives! We had been on the waitlist and waited for the perfect baby! Alicia asked me a battery of questions as to what size, gender, coloring I wanted. Lucy was the exact match. I was concerned how my new puppy would get to my home. Alicia and her wonderful daughters flew in from Florida and hand delivered my precious new baby! Alicia stayed with us for a few days and made sure we were all compatible. Lucy is perfect! I am so impressed with her and give Alicia credit for her breeding ability and care. Not only is Lucy perfectly marked for a tricolored Bernedoodle, her temperament is also wonderful. He is truly perfect in every way. Alicia was so helpful during the whole process. Giving us updates and sharing health information on his growth. When Alicia brought him, she came ready with so much helpful information and lots of great tips, all wrapped up in his very own binder. My fiance and I cannot say enough amazing things about Highfalutin and Alicia. We feel absolutely blessed to be counted among her families and even more special to get to care for and love Ernie every day. It has been the best two months of my life. Brooklyn Poppy is sweet, smart, funny, and beautiful! She was almost potty trained after two short weeks, she knew basic commands at three months old, and loves all people and dogs to a fault. Even after bringing home our puppy, Alicia and the Highfalutin family still offer plenty of support for newbies like me. They have spoiled me with giving me the greatest puppy ever. Highfalutin Furry Babies is the only place I will be going for future dogs. We're so happy to be a part of their family with our puppy Indie, a standard bernedoodle. She is the sweetest thing, and was well worth the wait. Don't be discouraged by the waiting list, it just gives you time to learn more, fall in love, and really understand what it is you want from your pup. We learned about bernedoodles while researching Berners and other sennenhund breeds and fell in love. Then, as luck would have it another dog from that same litter Daisy lives in the town next to us, so we got to meet her and her family, and were just head over heels. After meeting two of Alicia's dogs and the wonderful families they come from we were all-in, especially considering the worry-free nature of the hand delivery Just wait, it's a day you'll never forget, and as a bonus you get to hang out with Alicia for a few hours! Alicia is great at understanding your situation, and pairing you up with the right puppy for you and your life. After submitting the deposit back in early summer of , we waited in anxious anticipation as we climbed the list. A lot changes in a year, and that's why the wait is awesome. But in the year we waited note: we were offered several puppies well before then, but the timing wasn't right , we bought a house and with more room, we came around to the idea of a smaller standard F1 bernedoodle like Indie. We really wanted a pup that had Willow the bernese as a mom, as her other puppies seemed perfect for our lifestyle and this was our chance to get her, and we're so glad we did. The people and families who belong to HFFB are wonderful, and having them as a group is an amazing resource. The support you get from Alicia and her team is beyond expectation. She's been there for us at every turn. Even getting us a little help and consult with potty training stuff which helped immediately. She's so sweet and genuine, and you can tell how much she loves these dogs and the people who make their forever-homes. We're surrounded by dogs here, and I don't know where any of them came from because that's not a thing people seem to talk about. But, everyone here knows that Indie is from HFFB; it's a thing that matters because Alicia and Lexie make it matter by caring and doing the things they do. It's a point of pride to be part of it and know that the dogs and families are all out there sharing their experiences with each other. Alicia not only went out of her way to travel to Tampa to introduce us to our baby, Jude, a Tri-Color Bernedoodle, while I was travelling for work, but she also flew to New Orleans to hand deliver Jude and came to our home with a very thorough packet with any and all information we will need as we raise our baby. We thoroughly enjoyed our time working with Alicia, and I know her and her family as truly loving and trustworthy. Beyond that, she somehow balances an impressive deluge of incoming messages and she is a problem solver who is always able to address complex issues with strategy and confidence. Her knowledge and expertise in breeding and raising Bernedoodles is obviously the hugest advantage of the Highfalutin experience. Jude came with all his shots, he was chipped, and he was trained! Her dogs are clearly doused with love as they grow to be old enough to come home…. Along with her undeniably perfect dogs, Alicia was an absolute joy to work with. Without a doubt, I confidently recommend Highfalutin Furry Babies as the best brand to find a Bernedoodle to join your household. Alicia and her family are so dedicated and knowledgeable — not to mention they are just all-around great people. Although we wanted the process to go quicker, Alicia was always in touch with us and made sure we were matched with the right puppy for our family. Since we welcomed Tito home, the continued support of Alicia and the HFFB family has been amazing for sharing suggestions and experiences. The last two months with Tito have been absolutely awesome. You could tell he had been loved from birth and was exactly the type of puppy we discussed with Alicia…smart, full of energy with a great temperament always wanting to be around people. I cannot tell you how many compliments we get and how often we get stopped to talk about him. Lastly, one cannot underestimate the power of the HFFB network. Alicia worked tirelessly to find a safe home for Geddy B and I am happy to say he is living the life with my aunt and uncle and their big family getting all the attention he deserves. We are lucky to be part of this network and to have a connection with someone who cares as much as Alicia and her family. She instantly bonded with our family and has become an inseparable playmate for our 16 month old Bernedoodle. We highly recommend Highfalutin Furry Babies and will not consider any other breeder for our next Bernedoodle. Sven For a long time, I imagined what my dream dog would be like-beautiful coloring, smart, filled with love for the whole family. He has been a sweetheart since the day he came home and quickly became comfortable with his whole family. He cried for maybe five minutes his first night, and that was it. He was 12 weeks old when Alicia and her two lovely daughters, Emme and Lexie, brought him in their arms all the way from Florida. When we got the call we we're next in line for a puppy I was extatic! Looking at pics from previous litters was enough to make our head spin and hearts pound in anticipation of getting our own dog. Rocket is a Tri-Color Bernedoodle who's so spectacular that not a single person has ever been able to pass without some adoring puppy comment, or kneeling for a quick pet and closer look. His good looks are only dwarfed by his sweet demeanor and curious puppy personality. My four and six year old girls are head over heals for him, almost as much as he is for them. Rocket is fantastic with kids and instantly fit in with our family! HFB is so much more than a breeder, they are purveyors of some of the finest examples of this unique mix you'll find anywhere. Prevalence: Common Boxers are stocky, muscular and powerful. Males grow to about 25 inches and weigh from about 65 to 80 pounds 30 to 36 kilograms ; females grow from about 21 to 25 inches and weigh from about 50 to 65 pounds 22 to 30 kilograms. Boxers have regal, distinctly shaped square heads. Their jaw is undershot and the muzzle blunt. They have a broad, deep chest and a relatively short, strong back. Boxer's ears fold over naturally, but traditionally, their ears have been cropped to stand erect. Their tails generally are docked and carried high. Their feet are compact and the toes are arched. The boxer's coat is short and sheds moderately. Some boxers are a rich, fawn color and others are brindle. Their face or mask is usually black, but many have white face markings and white on the chest and paws. Personality: Boxers are intelligent, high-energy, playful dogs that like to stay busy. Their temperament reflects their breeding. They prefer to be in the company of their owners and are loyal pets that will fiercely guard their family and home against strangers. Few boxers bark excessively. If a boxer barks, chances are there is a good reason. Many boxers are vocal, however, and make a growling noise that's really just the dog's way of talking. Living With: The boxer has a high need for companionship and exercise. If these needs are not met, boxers can be destructive if left alone in the house. Boxers are ideal for people who want a canine companion with them most of the time or for larger busy families with homes that are often occupied by someone. They can do well on a country estate or in a city apartment as long as they have the opportunity to romp and expel energy. If you live in an urban area, regular walks are necessary. Boxers are intolerant of hot weather, and care must be taken to prevent them from getting overheated. They also need protection from the cold since they are short-coated. Their coats, however, are very easy to care for and will be shiny and bright as long as they have a good diet, are bathed occasionally, and are given regular rub-downs with a grooming mitt or brushings with a rubber curry. Some boxers drool excessively, and some snort and snore. Like other larger dogs, boxers are not particularly long-lived. Their life expectancy ranges from about seven to 10 years. History: Boxers are descendants of extinct bullenbaiser breeds crossed with mastiff, bulldog and possibly Great Dane and even a terrier. They were developed in Germany in the 19th century, initially as bull baiting dogs and later as butcher's helpers, controlling cattle in slaughterhouses. Some breed historians say boxers are named from the German word boxl, their slaughterhouse designation. Other fanciers contend the name boxer comes from the characteristic way that they use their forepaws to play, sparring much like a human boxer. After the breed rose to become among the most popular in America. Boxers are considered working dogs. They were one of the first breeds employed as a police dog, and they have been used as seeing-eye dogs. But they are also bred to be companion and guard dogs, perhaps best known for being loyal family pets that are especially fond of children. Related Pet Care Articles. Although a playful pup sounds endearing, consider how many games of fetch or tag you want to play each day, and whether you have kids or other dogs who can stand in as playmates for the dog. Click here for more information on this characteristic Boxer Overview Boxers, large, muscular, square-headed dogs, appear imposing until their mischievous and joyful eyes reveal their true nature. Boxers reach full maturity at three years, boasting intelligence, alertness, and fearlessness, while remaining friendly. Their loyalty to the family is remarkable, though they can be headstrong when faced with harsh training. With minimal grooming needs, Boxers make excellent family companions, as long as they receive ample physical exercise and mental stimulation. Their origin traces back to Germany, and their short, shiny coats are usually fawn or brindle with white markings. Docked tails and cropped ears are common, but many owners now prefer leaving them natural. Boxers are renowned for their love and loyalty, often trying to be lapdogs. Their strength and courage make them suitable for military, police, and search-and-rescue work. Proper care includes indoor living due to their sensitivity to extreme temperatures. Boxer Highlights Here are some of the highlights of the Boxer breed: Affectionate: Boxers are very affectionate dogs and love to be around their people. They are known for their wagging tails and slobbery kisses. Playful: Boxers are also very playful dogs and love to have fun. They are always up for a game of fetch or a good belly rub. Intelligent: Boxers are very intelligent dogs and can be easily trained. They are often used as working dogs, such as therapy dogs and search and rescue dogs. Trainable: Boxers are also very trainable dogs and can be taught a variety of tricks. They are eager to please their owners and love to learn new things. Loyal: Boxers are very loyal dogs and will always protect their family. They are known for their bravery and willingness to stand up to danger. The Bullenbeisser was used as a hunting dog for centuries to hunt bear, wild boar, and deer, tasked with catching and holding the prey until hunters arrived. Over time, Bullenbeissers lost their jobs on estates and began to be used by farmers and butchers to guard and drive cattle. The Boxer we know today was developed in the late 19th century when a Munich man named Georg Alt bred a brindle-colored female Bullenbeisser named Flora with a local dog of unknown origin. Schecken was then bred to an English Bulldog named Tom to produce a dog named Flocki, who became the first Boxer to be entered in the German Stud Book after winning at a Munich show that had a special event for Boxers. One of her pups was a white female named Meta von der Passage, considered to be the mother of the Boxer breed, even though photographs of her show that she bore little resemblance to the modern Boxer. Our great line of sires all trace directly back to this female. She was a substantially built, low to the ground, brindle and white parti-color, lacking in underjaw and exceedingly lippy. As a producing bitch few in any breed can match her record. She consistently whelped puppies of marvelous type and rare quality. Those of her offspring sired by Flock St. Salvator and Wotan dominate all present-day. The breed became known in other parts of Europe in the late s. Around , the first Boxers were imported into the U. Lehman of New York. When Word War I broke out, Boxers were enlisted into the military, serving as messenger dogs, carrying packs and acting as attack and guard dogs. Boxers started becoming popular in the U. Through them, the breed was introduced to more people and soon became a favorite companion animal, show dog, and guard dog. In the early days, there was a lot of controversy within the club about the Boxer standard. In , the club finally approved a new standard. The latest revisions of the standard were in .Today, the Boxer ranks 7th among the breeds and varieties registered by the AKC. Boxer Size The height at the shoulder for males usually ranges from .Females typically stand 21 to .Strangers are met with wariness, but they respond politely to friendly people. They display aggression only in defense of their family and home. Temperament is influenced by factors like heredity, training , and socialization. Boxer puppies with good temperaments are curious, playful, and open to approaching and being held by people. Socialization, early exposure to diverse experiences, people, and places, is crucial to ensure they grow up as well-rounded, friendly dogs. Enrolling them in puppy kindergarten classes and regular interactions with visitors, neighbors, and various environments help develop their social skills. Boxer Health Boxers are generally a healthy breed, but like all dogs, they have certain health conditions to be aware of. Here are some conditions to watch out for, along with precautions: Cancer : Boxers are prone to mast cell tumors, lymphoma, and brain tumors. White Boxers with excessive white markings can get sunburned and may develop skin cancer. Apply sunscreen to their ears, nose, and coat when they go outdoors. This condition can lead to fainting and sudden death. A veterinary cardiologist can diagnose it after detecting a heart murmur. Affected dogs should not be bred. Boxer cardiomyopathy BCM : An inherited condition causing an irregular heartbeat due to an electrical conduction disorder. It can result in weakness, collapse, or sudden death. Detection is challenging, leading to unexpected fatalities. Dogs showing signs of this condition should not be bred. While some dogs show signs of pain and lameness, others may not exhibit discomfort. X-ray screening helps detect hip dysplasia, and affected dogs should not be bred. Hypothyroidism : Caused by a deficiency of thyroid hormone, leading to infertility, obesity, mental dullness, and lack of energy. It can be managed with daily thyroid replacement pills. Corneal Dystrophy : Non-inflammatory eye diseases inherited in Boxers, affecting one or more corneal layers, causing opaque areas in the eyes. A weakened immune system can lead to demodectic mange, resulting in localized or generalized skin issues. Gastric dilatation-volvulus GDV , also called Bloat or Torsion : A life-threatening condition more common in deep-chested dogs like Boxers. Feeding habits and exercise patterns can contribute to GDV. Immediate medical attention is crucial. Allergies : Boxers are prone to both environmental and food-related allergies. Itchy, scaly skin should be examined by a vet. Responsible breeding is essential to reduce the risk of deafness. Boxer Care Boxers are indoor dogs due to their short noses and coats, making them unsuitable for outdoor living. However, they enjoy playing in a fenced yard. Engage them in play or walk them twice daily for at least half an hour to keep their muscles toned and their energy satisfied. Activities like fetch, long walks, or dog sports like agility and flyball are great options. Adequate exercise ensures good behavior—a tired Boxer is a well-behaved Boxer. Training is crucial for Boxers, as their size and strength can inadvertently harm people. Their temperament, being happy and excitable, requires early and consistent training using firm, fair methods with positive reinforcement through praise, play, and food rewards. Be consistent to avoid pushing boundaries. Settle them down before training class with a walk or play session for better focus. Housetraining requires patience; some Boxers are trained by four months, while others take longer. Regular potty breaks and praising them outdoors are essential. Crate training is recommended for their successful training. Boxer Feeding For an ideal Boxer diet , choose high-quality food suited for medium-sized breeds with high energy. Optimize their chances for a long, healthy life by providing proper nutrition. To prevent weight gain, adhere to a regular feeding schedule with two meals per day. Limit treats and avoid leaving food out all day. Consult your vet for personalized recommendations based on factors like weight, energy levels, and overall health. Boxer Coat Color And Grooming Boxers boast a sleek, short coat with tight skin, accentuating their athletic bodies. They come in fawn or brindle colors, occasionally with white markings. Fawn ranges from light tan to mahogany, while brindle displays striking black stripes on a fawn background. White markings should not cover more than one-third of the coat, and excessive white is discouraged due to potential health issues like skin cancer and deafness. They lack the gene for a solid black coat, so black Boxers are not seen. Bathing should be done as needed. Maintaining dental hygiene and nail care are essential. Regularly brushing their teeth prevents periodontal disease, and trimming nails every few weeks keeps their feet in good condition. Starting grooming routines early in puppyhood helps them become accustomed to the process, ensuring positive veterinary exams and handling as adults. Regular grooming also provides an opportunity to check for any potential health issues, such as sores, rashes, or signs of infection, promoting early detection and care. Boxer Children And Other Pets Boxers are fond of kids and make excellent playmates for active older children. However, their rambunctious nature may be too much for toddlers, possibly causing accidental knocks during play. Never leave a dog unsupervised with a child. With proper socialization, Boxers can also get along well with other dogs and cats, particularly if raised together. Boxer Rescue Groups Boxers are often purchased without any clear understanding of what goes into owning one. There are many Boxers in need of adoption and or fostering. There are a number of rescues that we have not listed. Many can be found with a quick internet search. They have a great sense of humor and are quite cuddly, considering their stocky selves to be right at home on your lap—even when they reach up to 80 pounds! They love their people, they love to please, and are extremely intelligent and loyal," says breeder Marc Hatten, owner of Mountain Crest Boxers in Huson, Mont. Boxers have a short, glossy coat —usually a fawn, brindle, or white color —that's soft to the touch, often with flecks of white across the chest, face, and paws. His square head is a unique feature, lifted high above a strong back and tapered hindquarters. Most boxers have broad, black faces, also known as masks. Their ears create a floppy frame around their masks, although some dog owners have traditionally cropped the ears so they stand up. Though this is controversial; according to the American Veterinary Medical Association , cropping is almost always done for cosmetic reasons and has no proven health benefits. Don't let the downward frown of the jowls fool you—they're happy dogs! Because boxers weigh between 50—80 pounds and top off at nearly 2 feet high at the shoulder, they're considered medium- to large-sized dogs. Temperament While your boxer is a puppy, introduce him to as many adults, children, and other pets as you can so he develops strong connections and learns good manners. Boxers can be suspicious around new people and animals, so the earlier they interact with other pets and families at a dog park or in the neighborhood, the better. A boxer dog's temperament is naturally friendly and fun without being overly jumpy, barky, or excitable—once they graduate from their awkward puppy phase, that is! They reach full maturity in about three years, which is longer than other dog breeds. So positive reinforcement training is a must to help properly channel a young boxer's abundant energy. Fortunately, they're easy to train and eager to please, so they respond well to cues and leash training. Boxers dislike routine, so teaching them new tricks from time to time keeps their curious minds engaged. Hatten recommends two essential reasons for crate training boxer puppies : to curb undesirable habits caused by boredom and to provide a sense of security. This provides a safe retreat as he adjusts to new people and surroundings, also referred to as a "decompression period. Some experts recommend that the crate—with door open—be placed in an area where your new companion can easily see you and approach for reassurance whenever he needs to, reinforcing the new bond. Ask your veterinarian or a certified trainer for more tips to ease your boxer into the family. Living Needs Owning a boxer means you want a dog that can keep up with your lifestyle and be a true canine friend. They wouldn't be well-suited to an individual or family that couldn't provide these basic activities and socialization aspects. It's not unusual for boxers to need at least 30 minutes—or more—of exercise and dedicated play each day. Because of their dutiful personalities and intelligence, they've been trained to work in K9 units with police, as messengers during WWII, cattle wranglers, and guides for people with visual impairments. So with this type of energy and attention to detail, it's no wonder they thrive with people who are active in the great outdoors and enjoy running , hiking , camping , enjoying family outings in the park, working on farms, and exploring other environments that provide healthy engagement. American boxer dogs have lean, muscular bodies designed for movement and short, easy-care coats, so they're ready to go when you are. A mature boxer can also be a trusty and loyal companion for an apartment dweller or senior citizen who enjoys daily walks and has a fenced-in yard or accessible park area that allows for plenty of fetch time. Care Clean your boxer's teeth every day if possible to prevent tartar buildup. Fortunately, a specific doggie toothbrush and toothpaste makes this an easy task. Ask your veterinarian for tips. Sparkling teeth and healthy gums also help reduce drooling. Boxers don't drool as much as other breeds, but slobber can happen regularly depending on the size and shape of your dog's nose and jaw. Keep his coat sleek and shiny by brushing him a couple of times a week with a hound glove or rubber curry-brush. They don't shed a lot , but regular brushing helps control any fur that does fly. Because boxers are generally clean, they only need a bath about once a month, and that's a good time to trim their nails and clean their ears , too. Some boxer dogs have deeper facial folds than others, so you might need to wipe these clean with a damp washcloth, especially after a vigorous romp outside nosing through dirt. Health Because boxers have short coats, they often need sweaters or jackets to protect them in cold weather. They're also more sensitive to hot temperatures. They don't sweat , and their snub noses and fleshy mouths can't provide adequate cooling from panting like other dogs. So if it's warm out, time walks in the early morning or late evening when the sun isn't at its hottest. If you notice your boxer is a bit overheated , apply chilled water to his ears, belly, and genitals, where blood vessels are closer to the skin. Because they're so playful, they might also enjoy a quick cool down by frolicking in a small wading pool placed in a shady backyard spot. According to Upstate Veterinary Specialities , particular boxer health problems include cardiomyopathy—specifically, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy ARVC , which appears in some dogs 5—7 years old. This is a genetic disease that occurs in nearly 40 percent of boxers. The heart muscle is gradually replaced by fibrous, fatty tissue, and causes an irregular heartbeat. Symptoms of ARVC include fainting, shortness of breath, and difficulty exercising. Unfortunately, some dogs don't present any symptoms of ARVC at all, and may die suddenly because of it. According to the American Boxer Club ABC , other potential medical conditions include hip dysplasia , degenerative myelopathy—a progressive disease that affects the hindquarters and spinal cord— thyroid issues , and tumors. When you're looking for a boxer puppy, ask specific testing questions of your breeder. In the 19th century, German and Belgian breeders created bullenbeissers from other dogs of that line, including the mastiff and English bulldog , and used them as large game hunters and for cattle control. Further refinement of that breed revealed a sleeker type of dog—the boxer. Some canine historians believe the name boxer comes from a German reference for the bullenbeisser's role in slaughterhouses—boxl—while others say it describes how the dogs use their front paws in play. The American Kennel Club officially recognized the boxer breed in .A boxer named Sigurd was born in and sold to a California kennel when he was 5 years old, according to the ABC. He and his offspring were the first boxers in the U. Fun Facts American boxer dogs are known for their goofy personalities. They also have a special wiggle frequently referred to as a "kidney bean"—they curve into a semi-circle shape and spin around when really excited! Boxers are favorite companions of many famous folks. Actress Jennifer Aniston, who usually has at least two or three pooch pals, adopted a pit bull-boxer mix in named Sophie. Actress Jessica Biel, along with pop music sensation husband Justin Timberlake, have frequently been snapped by paparazzi while on walks with their boxers, Buckley and Brennan. Was this page helpful? With a distinct build and highly recognizable face, the breed is a hard one to forget. Even though many people fall in love with Boxers for their wrinkly faces and droopy jowls, their personalities make it nearly impossible not to be impressed by a Boxer dog. Playful and clever, Boxers are patient with children and protective of their loved ones, making them a popular choice for families. Breed History Bred for hunting and working, the Boxer is a distinct breed that originated in Germany in the late 19th century. These characteristics were most likely seen in the now extinct breed known as Bullenbeissers, which were used to bring down large game and to keep an eye on the livestock. The Boxer breed that we are most familiar with began with a man named George Alt. Living in Munich, Alt imported a Bullenbeisser from France. The breed name, Boxer, has two possible origins. While no definitive history of the name exists, the former, while not as fun, is more likely than the latter explanation. Attributes While the breed is barrel-chested and athletic looking, perhaps the most distinguishing feature is the shape of their head. With a snout about half the length of the skull, coupled with some wrinkly jowls, the head of the Boxer served them well when hunting — mainly to breathe while holding on to prey until their owners arrived. Boxers have a sturdy build and muscular body, weighing anywhere from pounds and standing inches tall, with the female members of the breed being significantly smaller than their male counterparts. Boxers come in several colors, including brindle, tan, black, and even white. However, like most white-coated animals, white Boxers do run a higher risk for deafness. There are no indications, other than the increased risk of deafness, that white Boxers are more prone to other types of health concerns or temperament issues. Giving a Boxer the exercise and energy outlets they need can go a long way toward having a well-behaved pooch. Conversely, a Boxer with high energy but no outlet can go from clownish to destructive. This, of course, can be avoided with plenty of stimulation and activity — which are also great ways to form a bond with these playful pups. Boxers, like most dogs, also need regular nail trims, teeth brushing , and an occasional ear cleaning. Your veterinarian can recommend an ear cleaning solution. And, remember: use a cotton ball to wipe the ear clean and never go down deeper than your first knuckle. Also, avoid using cotton swabs. They can actually push dirt and debris further down into the ear. And those wrinkles — make sure to clean them out with a damp towel to help avoid any possible infections. Have you been thinking about getting health coverage for your pet?

Even vets wish that diagnosing his shaking was as cut-and-dried as it is for diagnosing people. Veterinary neurologists often use the signalment and history, neurological examination findings, and the conditions under which the tremor is activated to develop list of likely causes. Be careful not to over-react if your Frenchie is fearful about something. If not, just gently reassure him, and let him see you going on with things as normal. My dogs have always gotten braver about things as they get older, although there is usually something or another they never get over. For these, there are a variety of products you can try to calm your pet enough so he is, at least, not trembling. My go-to for this is a quick spritz of Adaptil check price here , and while there, check out the other forms of Adaptil — You may find that the plug-in diffuser or collar would suit your pup better. A ticking clock next to him, or putting a blanket over him is often quite effective, as well. When this happens, guide your Frenchie over to the object. Because of this, if you feel it necessary to discipline your dog, keep it brief, controlled, and right to the point. I learned this pretty quickly! I also realized that this did not stop the behavior I was hoping to fix; it just makes them sneaky about it. I had one dog, who used to go into violent tremors whenever we put him in his crate. We ended up getting him the next-size-up crate, and that solved the problem. It also helped that this new crate was big enough to put his whole bed inside. A Frenchie may Tremble When he Sights Prey Not all, but some Frenchies will begin quivering if they see something they would love to chase, like a squirrel. It may be hard to tell if your dog is quivering when he spots prey, since that is not the best time to touch him. Either way, this is natural, instinctive behavior for your Frenchie, and not something that necessarily needs to be remedied, except in the case of cats. If your dog is on a leash at the time, you can reinforce this my moving him along. The Excitement of Anticipation can Make Your Frenchie Tremble with Delight Some Frenchies will get so excited about a treat or getting ready for a walk, they will actually start trembling. Often when this happens, their teeth will chatter, too. This kind of trembling is just from excess joy. This can often happen if he is facing downhill at the time. Once his haunches go up, his weight shifts to his two front legs, and a dog facing downhill looks like he could go into a somersault any minute. It may be from a hip problem. Sometimes elderly Frenchies need, literally, a helping hand back there to support them. This is a lot of bending down for you; so in order to save your back, you may find it helpful to use a support harness to assist your buddy. Arthri-Soothe is an herbal product that works very well for a lot of dogs who have this problem. Be sure to let your vet know about any signs of physical weakness in your Frenchie. When my dog had too many fatty meat scraps on Christmas Eve, she trembled and threw-up on the rug. While I was cleaning that up, she threw-up again! The trembling continued. Up came Round 4! After that, the trembling stopped, and so did the vomiting. In that way, trembling can actually be helpful. The best option is to stop the draught, but you may need to relocate his bed to a warmer spot. Even your Frenchie has always been comfortable in the past, you may find him shivering with the cold as he gets older. Whether old or young, your chilly Frenchie will love having a blanket placed lovingly over him. We used to have an adorable red sweater, which my dog, Shannon, hated — at first. When he got older, though, he would run back to his bed after a walk, without stopping to let us take off the sweater. If you ever suspect this, call your vet right away. The sooner your pup is treated, the more the vet can do for him. Here are some of the reasons why they like to shake out: To dry themselves off To get warm — if your Frenchie hesitates while walking with you on a cold day, please hold up for a moment — he may want to shake off the cold. A good shaking-out helps your Frenchie warm up. For everything else, put it on him long enough to get that cute Instagram pic. We thought we would have a little Christmas fun once with my pup, by putting jingle-bell bracelets on her paws. Instead of shaking madly and jingling up a storm, she just reached down and started nipping off the bells! To release tension muscle or emotional To loosen up getting up from sleep to shake out — our first dog, Peaches, would often be stiff when she got up from a nap. Sometimes, she would even have a charlie-horse. Watch for vigorous head-shaking; this can indicate a problem with his ears. Always let your Frenchie shake out! After a walk in the rain, protect the walls of your home by encouraging your Frenchie to shake off in the garage. Here is a housecleaning tip: check your walls and furniture periodically in any area where your Frenchie shakes off a lot. They can be surprisingly messy! This is best done on a bright, sunny day, or use a flashlight to get a good look at where you need to clean up. Resources for Further Info. As a worried pet parent who wants only the best for their furry friend, you probably wonder whether something is wrong when you see their back legs shaking. A French bulldog might shake or tremble for a variety of causes. They might do so because they are: Cold If you take your French bulldog for a walk on a chilly day and see that they shake and shiver, you should buy them a coat. And when the temperatures drop, be sure you use it. Shaking is how a dog boosts its body temperature in this scenario. Your dog is chilly if their ear feels cold to the touch. Cuddle them since your body heat will help them warm up. Nervous A ride in the car, a trip to the veterinarian, or loud noises can all make a dog uneasy. This form of shaking typically lasts only as long as the source of their nervousness. Anxious Anxiety could cause a French bulldog to shake, and it might be triggered by a specific event or just a general sense of fear or uneasiness. That might indicate that they are worried and uncomfortable. Are they apprehensive about moving? If your dog moves yet looks to be off-balance, it might be a spine problem — and you should seek medical help as soon as possible. Overly Excited When your French bulldog is overstimulated and becomes very enthusiastic, they may tremble. If this occurs, sit with your Frenchie and allow them to calm down. Be careful to remain relaxed so that your dog will sit still until the shaking stops. Poisoned Poisoning symptoms in dogs vary based on the type of poison consumed. Vomiting, trembling, difficulty breathing, and drooling are some symptoms to keep in mind. Dogs are easily poisoned by chocolate, which causes excitement and trembling. If your Frenchie pup is afraid of something, be careful not to overreact. If not, simply comfort them gently and let them see you going about your business as usual. Some fear-triggers include fireworks, thunder, gunshots, vet visits, car rides — yes, they get car sick — and anything that is new and unfamiliar. How Serious Are The Symptoms? Tremors restricted to the back legs that develop only when your French bulldog attempts to control these limbs are more likely the result of a non-emergency — but could still point to some concerning scenarios. If the tremors appear to come on quickly and involve the entire body, suspect poison ingestion, epilepsy, or some systemic problem that needs immediate veterinarian attention. Whatever the case, if you notice your Frenchie is shaking, pay special attention and look for any changes in their general health or behavior — no matter how minor. X-rays might reveal joint abnormalities, while laboratory tests could reveal pollutants, electrolyte imbalances, or metabolic issues like hypoglycemia. When To See A Vet Dogs quiver and shake for a variety of causes — including excitement, discomfort, old age, and even sickness. Yes, shivering and shaking might indicate a significant problem. So, if your dog suddenly begins trembling or shivering, keep an eye out for additional symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and limping. Better safe than sorry, right? When not writing, he enjoys hiking and time in nature with his pets. The reasons could be as simple as being overjoyed at your arrival or as serious as going into shock. Depending on the temperature of your house and how cold it is outside, your Frenchie might feel more comfortable in a sweater during the colder months. This breed is very social and can feel your absence quite severely. If you suspect your dog has bad separation anxiety, talk to your veterinarian or a pet behavioral therapist to see how you can help them. Hypoglycemia Low blood sugar is more common in tiny puppies or adult dogs with medical problems such as diabetes or insulinoma. Make sure your Frenchie eats at least two balanced meals a day to prevent serious dips in their blood sugar levels and stay up to date on their blood work to catch any health risks early on. General Excitement Your Frenchie loves to see you walk through the door! Separate your dog from any other dogs in the house and take them to your vet if their shaking is accompanied by any of these distemper symptoms : coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, excessive discharge coming from their eyes, fever, lethargy, labored breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, or skin sores. Poisoning Household cleaners, decorations, and some foods and plants are very toxic to dogs. Vomiting, diarrhea, and respiratory distress are some common symptoms in addition to shaking. If you think your dog might have ingested something poisonous, call your vet or the Pet Poison Hotline immediately. Neurological problems Trembling can be associated with neurological problems such as epilepsy. Chronic shaking could be a sign of neuromuscular problems. You should make an appointment with your vet for an examination. Early diagnosis and treatment is crucial, but sometimes hard to pinpoint because the symptoms can be sporadic and vague. Talk to your vet if you notice your Frenchie shaking accompanied by lethargy, sudden weight loss, and excessive thirst and urination. Old Age As your dog ages, their joints start to wear down, muscles can get weaker and the nervous system degenerates. They can start to wobble a little as they walk or have a shaking leg sometimes. Ask your vet for advice on how to keep your dog active in their old age and to see if physical therapy might be recommended in extreme cases. For example, if your Frenchie is shaking only their head or ears, they might have an ear infection. Get an appointment with your vet to treat any problems discovered. Make sure your dog is warm , has something to eat and continue to monitor them closely, noting any other symptoms. If the shaking continues for more than an hour, becomes more severe, or is accompanied by any other signs of discomfort, call your vet to see what you need to do next. French Bulldogs are excitable creatures with really big, sensitive hearts. They can easily become extremely happy or anxious depending on the situation and should always be treated with loving care. Noting any other symptoms together with the shaking will help you to narrow down what is happening and contact your vet for help. Too Cold Going outside This one is easy to remedy. If you take your French Bulldog for a walk on a particularly cold day and notice it shakes and shivers, buy it a coat. How Cold Is Your House? The majority of the time, your French Bulldog is probably shaking and shivering because it is too cold! Turn your heating on or cover it partially with a blanket. In this case, shaking is how a dog raises its body temperature. A little tip here, an easy way to tell if your Frenchie is too cold is to gently touch the inside of the ear. If its ear feels cold to the touch, then your dog is cold. Give it a cuddle as your body heat will help to warm it up. It might go to sleep as shaking can be exhausting. Test its temperature again after an hour with the ear technique to see if it has made any difference and continue monitoring to ensure your dog does warm up. Nervous Many things can make a dog nervous such as a trip in the car, a visit to the vet or loud noises. This type of shaking usually lasts just for the duration of the particular cause. Fear Dogs can be scared of many things and in extreme cases will shake with fear. Fireworks Some dogs are very scared of fireworks, especially the ones that bang and whizz. One of the best things you can do here is to not make a fuss out of it. Ignore the fireworks and the noise yourself and hopefully, your calmness will reassure your dog. Make sure your French Bulldog is safely indoors in a quiet room with its favorite bed and toys. You should also consider keeping your home warm and toasty in order to protect your Frenchie from any exposure to the cold. Some common signs include shivering, cowering and hiding. This type of behavior can be caused by a sudden loud noise, the presence of someone or something new in their environment, or from the anticipation of a potentially painful experience such as visiting the vet. Being responsible breeders of these fabulous dogs, we strive to keep the breed healthy with select breeding. Much research and planning goes into play before each litter of puppies. Our puppies are raised with our family and get socialized on a daily basis. We offer limited registration and all our puppies come with a puppy pack. Happy, Healthy Bloodline When choosing a good dog, you want to find breeders who breed for good health and temperament and have great lines, not breeders breeding mainly for money and looks, or those making false claims just to attract buyers. Their temperament, gentle nature and intelligent personality makes them the perfect companion for families with small kids or those that just need a good friend to snuggle with. A Furever Friend Since every puppy has its own character, we like to see how each puppy mingles with its new owners when choosing their forever friend. We make it our priority that the puppy you choose will be the best fit for your family. After years of selective breeding, these lighter specimens were given the name "English light golden retrievers. The color of the coat has nothing to do with a dog's health. But ancestry could possibly have an effect on health. There is at least a little evidence that, on average, English bloodlines are healthier. Research also found that goldens from English bloodlines had an average lifespan of 12 - 14 years whereas American goldens lived for an average of 10 - 12 years. Putting statistics to the side, it's our priority to ensure our puppies will live a happy and healthy life. Do English Retrievers Shed Less? Because English retrievers have less hair, you will notice less hair around the house, but this does not mean that they shed less compared to their American counterparts. All retrievers shed at the same rate and usually shed the most during spring and fall. Our Program Personality We understand that each English Cream Golden Retriever puppy has their own unique personality and temperament traits, including assertiveness, motivation, energy level, tenderheartedness, intensity, and focus. Our observation of their socialization and interaction with humans and other animals such as cats, provides important indicators for your puppy's needs and lifestyle. Family Looking for a lifelong companion for your children? Our English Cream Golden Retriever puppies are loving, happy, and easygoing playmates, who not only create great memories but also promote emotional and physical development. From building self-esteem to developing empathy and responsibility, our companion puppies have many positive impacts on children. Socialization At Golden Beaches, we believe in providing our puppies with the essential socialization necessary to become lifelong companions. Our multi-pet household allows our puppies to have early exposure to cats, which promotes respect and understanding for other animals and children. This socialization also benefits cats by overcoming fears and promoting positive behavior. Many of our clients with multi-pet households have found this approach beneficial, and some have even added a kitten to their family after starting out with one of our puppies. Nutrition At Golden Beaches, we prioritize the health and well-being of our Golden Retrievers by providing them with premium, holistically formulated dog food from puppyhood to adulthood. Our food has never been recalled and is packed with nutrients and protein, ensuring that our dogs have shiny coats, bright eyes, and long-term benefits. We believe that good nutrition is key to keeping our dogs healthy and happy, so we take the time to ensure that they receive the best possible care, socialization, and early training. Our approach includes using evaluation methods like the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test, as well as introducing them to different activities and tests. Through these efforts, we gain a better understanding of your pup's unique level of confidence, ensuring they will be comfortable in any situation. Following the recent loss of my precious cockapoo Beethoven, I adopted my adorable mini Aussie-doodle puppy, Rube. I quickly came to realize with this new and amazingly smart puppy, that it had been almost 50 years since I had participated in any kind of formal dog training. After much internet research, it became clear to me that training methods had drastically changed over the years and that I needed a refresher or it was Rube who would be training me! I was looking for modern training programs such as Good Citizen Dog Training to enroll my Rube and myself in group classes, in part because I was shocked to read how so many people had rushed out to bring dogs into their shut-in lives because of the COVID Pandemic. Many of these dogs were also shut-in. Their lack of much needed exposure to the outside world created socialization and training problems in the dogs and local animal shelters and adoption agencies are now getting many dogs returned. Dogs of any age need socialization and training, but it is especially important during the puppy formative period. Deborah has created an easy to navigate website for Good Citizen Dog Training with all the information you need to get started in her programs, but is also quick to respond to questions should you have them. I want my Rube to be able to travel with me, whether by plane, train or automobile, within the city, suburbia or the countryside in a safe enjoyable manner. After finishing Puppy Kindergarten class with Deborah and Good Citizen Dog Training, I can say with confidence that Rube is well on his way to being a well behaved and happy pup. Thank you, Deborah! We will see you soon for the Intermediate Puppy Class! This spring we decided to add a puppy to our household. In June we brought home our lovely little German Shepherd gal named Mira. Before we even got her home I knew we were going to need help training her. I have had dogs all my life, but never raised one from the ground up. I was impressed that she was able to keep class sizes small and keep us outside during this crazy time. Mira is now 4 months old and is able to sit, lay down, focus on my face, and so much more. She walks beautifully on a leash and is even learning to leave her geriatric cat sister alone most of the time. .We recently went on a family camping trip with 2 other dogs, 5 kids under 5, and lots of food sitting around. Mira was able to interact with the kids and dogs, as well as leave them alone when directed. Not once did she try to get at the food on the tables or help herself to hotdogs in kids hands. Without Deborah and her teaching, Mira would not be the happy, confident, mostly well behaved gal that she is. We were about to give up and return him to the breeder. Deborah was our second trainer, and she showed us a variety of new techniques to use with Bandit, and practiced them with us until all of us were doing the right things - she trains the people even more than the dogs! She worked with us at her home, in our home, and at different locations where Bandit could experience distractions while training, and it worked wonders. You will not be disappointed if you go to her for training! She had me come in for a consultation where she spent about 2 hours with me showing me techniques and tricks that would aid in Sparky's training. The expertise and patience she showed not just with Sparky, but with me as well had me sold. I am a disabled veteran who recently purchased a puppy with the goal of him eventually being my service dog. When Sparky was 5 months old I began looking for a "Board and Train" situation where he could learn the fundamentals. I called probably 15 different places looking for one that was affordable and would meet my needs. I talked with several trainers, and most of them seemed to lack the patience to help or were cost prohibitive. Sparky spent three weeks with Deborah and came home a different dog. He was well behaved, a little more mellow, and had the fundamentals needed to continue with training. Deborah spent a few extra hours with me as well, training me how to work with him. I am grateful for her patience with me too, because I know I am difficult. Deborah continues to address all of my concerns as we continue training at Good Citizen. I can tell that Sparky has a real love for her, which tells me about her love for him as well. If you are looking for a board and train program, I highly recommend Deborah and Good Citizen. Our dog, Daryl, is a 2 year old, high energy, very excitable pitbull rescue and he gets overwhelmed in busy social situations. Each class has many other types of dogs with varying levels of reactivity which was great exposure for Daryl. About 6 months after we went through the class the first time, we noticed he needed more intensive repetition to really get those skills to stick. We took the class a second time and we were able to get even more out of the class since we had set a good foundation in place. Daryl was so much more manageable during the second class so we really got to fine tune everything we learned. Now we can take him to places with a lot of people, other dogs, and feel confident that we can help him be his best. He certainly is a crowd pleaser and we get many compliments on his good behavior! I could not be more impressed. Because of Deborah and her staff's training, Albus, at just over 6 months old, constantly receives compliments on how well behaved and trained he is. Because the instruction he and I have received, I'm able to have him join me throughout most of my work days, fulfilling a dream of having a constant companion, not just a "home" dog. They are patient with questions, and make it their mission to set you up for success with recommendations for everything from collars, to toys, to food. You really feel like you are getting the expert shortcuts every step of the way. As a fellow business owner, I appreciate the time and care that has been put into creating a holistic experience, intentionally engineered to support Albus's development. If you want the best training and the safest environment you could find for your 4-legged family member, look no further. She is an amazing trainer; very honest, nice and straight forward when it comes to training you and your dog on how to correct bad behaviors and achieve good ones. I appreciate her honesty and advice when it comes to how I can be a better dog Mom to my fur baby. Kuma has become a more well rounded dog because of how they get the dogs of all breeds and sizes to interact with each other in a peaceful and fun way. Since bringing Kuma there she has built up her confidence and she is now playing with big dogs which is something that terrified her before I brought her there. My pup wasn't much better at listening or having any kind of focus or calmness to him. I sought out other trainers in the area. I decided on a home trainer that had decent reviews. Costa is a Husky with a very stubborn mind. In only 4 sessions it's like I have a new dog! I even signed him up for doggie daycare and found that after a day of fun, supervised play that my pup is more focused to work at home on his training. Don't go anywhere else!! This is the place to go for training and daycare. Don't waste you money anywhere else! My beautiful 10 month old Doberman puppy Sophie was into everything and out of control. One private lesson later and it was like I have had a new dog. Sophie and I both learned a ton of new tricks and great exercises to keep us both happy. Amazing results. I am so impressed that we are signing up for the Pupppy II class and doggy day care. The programs offered by Good Citizen are well worth the investment, now I have a well behaved best friend. Thanks for all you guys do. We went to every obedience class and he quickly became the dog we always wanted — attentive, happy and easy to train. The Growly Class was truly superb and was not offered elsewhere. Kato learned to share his toys with other dogs and his guarding nature is under control. Just some of SkyRiver's Puppy Brags! Marlie Jo just turned 9 months Echo x Pow litter ! Turning out to be a great Mater, owned by Mike and Family. Yakima, Washington Hi Choral. My family bought the red collar pup from you and I was just sending an update on our little guy not so little anymore. Mater has turned out to be an excellent gun dog. He has shown an incredible drive for upland game with a great nose. At five months he was finding and retrieving birds just as well as our more experienced dogs. Last week I was walking through a big field and all of a sudden Mater wasn't next to me. I called him and he came running over with a live pheasant in his mouth. We didn't shoot it. Actually he's our hunting party's first choice for finding a down bird in thick cover that the other dogs couldn't find. On another note he's been a very happy and energetic part of the family. Best friends with our little boy that just turned one he follows him all over waiting for a dropped piece of food. He's taken really well to all the training I've provided and we couldn't be happier. Such a beautiful dog and I just wanted to say thanks again for providing the best possible fit for our family! Saca, owned by Carlene. And she is just growing too dang fast!! My little Saca is now 9 months old, already!! She is now in Adolescent II class which is more challenging, will work her brain--last week we were the only ones there only 3 in the morning class so we got a great private session with Nancy. We worked on Free Style moves and Saca really enjoyed it and picked the moves up quickly, except for a couple that are giving her trouble but she will get them. But she learned 9 new commands. Her vocabulary has really increased, knows so many words. She's a keeper. I posted several pics from that session last week on FB. We have been working with Freezy retrieving long-distant dummies with a launcher. Last week at first we just let Saca watch but then let her go and she took off like a rocket, only she did not come back to us but went to lie in shade with her treasure! But this weekend she did a couple of remarkable retrieves. Pat shot one out into some tall grass and she went past it but then started making short back and forth casts until she got! I have not done any casting with her so I was pretty amazed. Then Pat shot one in another direction, tall grass and forbs, but it went over the cedar fence into the front dog yard. So I walked up with her, went into the yard, lined up with the dummy and told her to fetch. At first she looked at me like "are you sure? She went past the dummy by about 5' but then caught its scent and whirled around, picked it up and brought it to me. She is a natural. Also a super lover. Dusty, owned by Dave and Kathy. Dusty is the best dog in the world! Kathy says I spoil him, I have to continually remind her that he poops peppermint sticks. I did have to agree with her that he was getting to big to be in bed with us anymore, but he's happy to have his own bed on the floor next to me. Dusty is incredibly smart, he learned to sit, shake hands, lay down, stay, and fetch with ease. I found out on accident that he's not afraid of guns, I shot a coyote with a rifle not realizing that he was standing near me, it didn't bother him at all.Dusty loves the water, he has his own little swimming pool on our deck. He loves to ride in the cab of the truck with me, he still sits on the arm rest in the middle so he can see everything, although it won't be long before his head hits the roof. Dusty has all of his puppy shots and will be getting neutered sometime this Winter. Our Veterinarian loves Dusty and has offered to take care of him if we need to go out of town, although I would probably never leave him with anyone but family. As you probably already know.I make it sound like Dusty is "my dog", I'm only kidding myself, he became the entire families dog the minute I brought him home. He is well loved and stays very active. Later, Dave. Jaeger, owned by Kevin. Anchorage, Alaska Jaeger made the trip in great form. There was little or no whining — he slept most of the way on the flight. He appears to be adjusting well here — already out for his second potty break after having food and water. We really enjoyed meeting you and we were both extremely impressed with your operation. The care and attention to detail with the pups will make a big difference in their future. I hope everyone else is as excited with their puppy as we are with Jaeger. Jaeger is doing great. He is just as bright and has all the drive we hoped for. He actually loves going in cover more than on open ground. He is scheduled to go to the trainers in early December so he will get a lot more work that way since we are already frozen in up here. Sonny, owned by Stephen. Seattle Washington and Alaska Sonny has made himself at home. There must be some lingering scents from my old dog because Sonny has latched on to all of Buddy's favorite spots straight away. It's unbelievable how birdie he is. I couldn't figure it out at first, but he kept going into my living room and over to one chair in particular over and over again nudging the cushion with his nose and sniffing all around the chair. I had to go see what he was so interested in. It turns out that the throw cushion on the chair is filled with "Goose Down", as soon as I moved it he lost interest in the chair. He's great pup! Well done. Many Thanks, Steve and Sonny I hope this message finds you well. Sorry we missed getting Sonny over there this spring, but we had to go to Alaska. Sonny is over the top! He is brilliant, confidant and relentless, just as I asked. I would like to talk to you about more training and competition.Best regards, Raine, owned by Sharon and Greg. Canada This is a photo of Raine with Dougald our friend's 3 year old and mentor. She is a delightful addition to our family - is learning so quickly! Minneapolis, Minnesota Risky is doing great! Risky loves being outside. Indoors we call her the "stuffed" dog as she just lays around not an exaggeration. No chewing, jumping, destructive behavior etc. .We puppy proofed the house but there apperantly was no need. If it doesn't involve birds or retrieving life, according to Risky, is just not worth living. She goes to daycare three to four days a week and has several good friends including Clover, a Black Russian terrier and Susie, a Chesapeake. All three puppies were born within 10 days of each other. Risky is clearly the smallest of the three by about half but she puts up a good fight an is the scrappiest of the three. So at daycare she is much more active. She has been field training with us in the evenings. Her longest mark has be about 25 yards. Go out and getting it has been excellent. She is now on a long check chord. If she is on the chord she knows that she can not run off so she is compliant and clearly quite bright to be leash wise already. I will say her dog skills are incredible. Since she was so good when she came home about not nipping or jumping she fit right in with our dog pack and everyone accepted her right away. She is a great addition to our family! Selah, owned by Jon and Esther. Bend, Oregon Hey there Choral and Tiff! We decided to name our pup Selah! Here are some pictures of the first couple day. We are just loving her, she is so sweet and feisty!!! Selah is doing great, I've been meaning to send you some pictures, I will do so soon! She is getting bigger everyday, although she's a petite girl, just 36lbs so far! Her temperment is fantastic, so sweet and smart. We've done a couple of sessions of training with her and the trainer said she might be smarter than us! We just got done taking her on a road trip through California, she seems to be up for whatever we are doing. Loves the water and retrieving too! Rusty, owned by Rick. Seattle, Washington I took Rusty to my lake in front of my house today and I closed the gate so he couldn't follow me down the dock. He walked back to the beach put his paw in a couple of times and thought about it. Then walked right in by himself and swam 20 feet to where I was. I praised him with great delight and took him back into the house and dried him off and warmed him up. I couldn't be happier. Kayti, owned by Ron and Teri. Chelan, Washington Your "puppy" has delighted us as she has grown into a wonderful, loving companion. Thank you so much!!!! Clark, owned by Ingrid and John. Reno, Nevada I think that Clark is settling in nicely. It was so nice to see you today and we greatly appreciate everything that you have given Clark. We can already tell what an intelligent, inquisitive little guy he is; each time that anyone moves or begins to speak he stops what he is doing to watch and listen. Updates to follow! Choral, Everything is going really well. Clark and I arrived around 9pm on Saturday night. Thankfully, our drive was uneventful and he was a trooper. He sat in his kennel for the majority of the trip, occasionally sitting on my sister, Hannah's, lap instead. I think that this time spent in the kennel was a really great potty training opportunity; he let us know each time he had to go. We didn't have one accident! We took frequent stops to play, so the drive took much longer than I had originally anticipated. We had great success introducing Augustus to Clark, considering that Augustus is not accustomed to sharing us. He is just like an only child! Gus has been so cautious when playing with Clark; he is very aware of how small he is. Clark has really taken to Gus, so we will have to be really diligent to avoid Clark considering Gus the pack leader. John is absolutely in love; he isn't any happier than while watching Clark run with his nose to the ground! The training begins this week; John has already brought home some feathers from a recent hunting trip. I think that I may have mentioned this in my last email, but we are so impressed by Clark's inquisitiveness and fearlessness. He will likely take patience and consistency to train because he is so willful, but we are up to the challenge and so glad to have such an intelligent, eager, and affectionate pup. He has this great expression when he is watching us, where he cocks his head and furrows his eyebrows; he is such a little man! Right now, my favorite Clark activity, is our early morning walk, just the two of us. He prances along, so proud of himself, as though I am giving him complete freedom to follow me; I'm not sure that he has discovered that he is attached by a leash and that I am actually the one calling the shots! We are now fully transitioned from his original food to the Eukanuba. He hasn't had an upset stomach and his stool is entirely solid, so I think that we have successfully gotten over any hump generated by the stress of the change of environment. How much do you expect him to be eating per meal right now? I know that we went over this, but I think that he is eating like a bird! I hope that everything is going well in your neck of the woods! Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Hello! Bentley is doing great! He looks a lot different then I thought he would at six months though lol. He is only 45 lbs, very curly! His paw is still white, and I get a lot of questions asking me if he's full golden, but I tell everybody its unique and I love his white paw: My boyfriend and I just rented a house in Coeur d'alene, Idaho and the dogs have a huge backyard to play in now so they are ecstatic. His big sister boxer, Maddie, loves him and he loves her so much! By friend from work is actually going to work with him and I on agility training in a couple months so I'm so excited for that. He has a lot of energy so I think it would be a lot of fun for him. Buffie, owned by Steve and Ellie. Hamilton, Montana Ok, anything to this? We left the room and when we came back all of her toys were in a single line. Do you teach them that or is she just really smart? We are having so much fun with her and she is better all the time. Thanks Steve.Just wanted to give you an up-date. She is adjusting very well. We watched the ball game today. She is walking me to death but that's ok. She wants to run, but we are keeping her on lead. She is doing great at night. She and I have bonded very well, kind of leaves Ellie out now she wants a dog. I' ll send pics Riley, owned by Cathy. She's smart and obedient, easy to train - does well with "clicker training". She's very confident and social - goes to doggie daycare times a week. Bliss is happy just walking and running with my wife. She made certain to make the rounds last night, and shower hugs and kisses on each and every family member last night. What a politician.I will work with her on quartering in a few weeks. You've done a real nice job with her. She is sleeping at my feet as I write this e-mail. Bullitt, owned by Bill and Lisa. Los Angeles, California Here are a couple of photos to update you on Bullitt's progress. One in the grass is 4 months, and the one on the hearth is about a week ago. He has become a great dog, loves all kinds of people and other dogs. Enjoys retrieving, next up catching a frisbee. He still has his puppy moments of course, but all in all a great dog. House training was easy with very few accidents, most of which were my fault. As you can see he is very handsome too! Bill Molly, owned by Judy and J. Issaquah, Washington We have our beautiful little girl at home now… thank you so much! Its just me and the girls for a few days, and they are in love with her… and she seems to love them, too. Once again, thank you so much for helping us find our perfect pup. Riley, owned by Nikki and Chris. We hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer! Riley is doing great, she is almost a year! We can't believe how fast it went. She was actually getting a check up at the vet the other day and is 52 lbs and healthy. She has completed 2 puppy classes and is always excited to learn something new. She is such a lover dog always looking for attention, just like she did when she was a puppy and picked us out. Chris is deploying in the late fall and I am looking to go abroad for a few months for school and remembered you telling us about your retriever training programs. We were wondering if you could give us more information about it please. I think she would love spending some time on the farm being able to chase more pigeons. Hope all is well and looking forward to hearing from you! We wanted to give you a little update with Riley! First we want to thank you for adding to our new family! Riley brings us so many smiles, laughs, and of course new challenges. She is doing so good. She sleeps through the night in her kennel and has never gone to the bathroom in it, she is learning how to bark by the door when she has to go out, she can sit, and loves to play catch. We are working on the leave it and not eating our leather couches. But she got her shots, heart worm meds, and safe guard. The Vet said everything looks great! Puppy school starts this Saturday, which is nice she will be 11 weeks and the both of us will be able to be there so we can learn together and stay on the same page. We drove up to Mt. Baker yesterday. She loves being in the car.We made a towel bed on the center council and she sits between us, loves to look out the window, and of course snuggles. So funny watching her hop like a bunny. Riley also made friends with some neighbor girls. There are 4 girls between the ages of that love playing with her. So now we get knocks on the door "Can Riley come out and play" My Chicago friends love making fun of me for being the neighborhood mom with a white picket fence.Anyways, hope everything is going well with the rest of the pups. I can't believe how nice fall is and probably nicer in your area. Have a great Halloween! Riley is going to be a Bumble Bee and go trick or treating with the neighbor girls.

Learn More The transition from a puppy coat to an adult one can come as a bit of a shock to novice owners and newbie pet parents. Some breeders choose not to mention it for fear of putting off prospective buyers. However, here we will let you know exactly what to expect when your Goldendoodle puppy coat transition happens. Types of Goldendoodle Coats All dogs are born with a soft, single-layer puppy coat, whether they later go on to develop a double-layered one or not. Goldendoodles are no exception. This smooth, silky hair then gives way to something that can be altogether trickier to manage. Knots, tangles, mats, and shedding can become real problems with some dogs. As you probably know by now, with a mixed breed, there are no certainties. Especially when the parent animals are so different. One half of the Goldendoodle equation, the Golden Retriever, has a dense, straight, water-resistant double coat. In contrast, the other half, the Poodle, has a curly, coarse, low-shedding single one. Depending on which parent they favor, Goldendoodles can inherit either of these coats or a wavy, fleecy, long one that sits somewhere in between the two. This is generally the most common and the most popular of the three. For more on Goldendoodle coats and the right tools for caring for them, take a look at The Absolute Best Brushes for Goldendoodles. Nature can be a bit of a lottery. We can, however, make a few best guesses based on the parents and what usually happens. One thing we do know for sure is that whichever adult coat your pup is destined to have, it will be altogether stiffer and denser than their puppy one. It could even be a different color, thanks to the Poodle Fading Gene. Breeders, however, do highlight a few telltale traits that could give you an early idea of what to expect: Check The Snout An excess of hair at the top of the snout known as a mustache indicates that your pup is likely to end up with a coat on the curlier end of the spectrum. Straighter, shaggier, beard-like hair suggests a wavier coat. If your dog has short hair here and an overall neat and tidy-looking muzzle, they will probably inherit a straight coat. Pay Attention to the Generation The generation of the dog can also provide a strong indication of what to expect. See Also: Click the image Goldendoodle Puppy Coat Transition Phases When it comes to changing from the puppy to the adult coat, there are no clear-cut transition phases. When and how pups blow their puppy coat varies from dog to dog. With most dogs, it tends to happen at around six months, and it can be either sudden or gradual. Some owners barely even notice — it all depends on the final hair type. However, you may start to notice a little more hair in the brush or a few more tangles around the armpits, tail, and ears. If your Goldie is getting more of a curly coat, you will need to be extra vigilant at this time. Shedding puppy hair can all too easily get caught up in tight curls leading on to painful knots and mats that are all but impossible to remove with a brush. A good rule of thumb with dogs is that with a low-shedding coat, you have to spend more time on brushing; with a high shedding one that time will be spent cleaning hair up off the floor or your clothes. Which Goldendoodles Get Puppy Coats? Pretty much every variety of Goldendoodle from Standard to Mini experiences some sort of coat change as they transition from puppy to adult. The switch from puppy to adult coat is also less noticeable with active dogs and particularly ones that spend a lot of time swimming. The water washes away the old hair as it is replaced with the new. It is not left about the house as it otherwise would be. This change could be pretty dramatic or quite subtle depending on the type of adult coat your pup has inherited. They will shed their puppy coat somewhere between four and eight months, and their stiffer, denser adult one will start to come in at this time. Do Goldendoodle puppies change color? While your pup is unlikely to completely change color on you, many Goldies get lighter as their adult coat comes in. This is known as fading. How do you tell if a Goldendoodle puppy will have furnishings? Furnishings refer to the hair features about the face. The best way to know if your Goldie will have furnishings is to pay attention to their generation. F1 Goldendoodles are most likely to be missing them. F1B dogs are the most likely to have them. These Goldendoodles do not have teddy bear features. English Goldendoodles are more likely than American Goldendoodles to have a boxy teddy bear appearance. Minimal to non-shedding, hypoallergenic for Goldendoodles that are F1b and multi-gen Common in F1b and Multigen Goldendoodles. But exists in all generation types The Wavy Coat Minimal to non-shedding, mostly hypoallergenic Found in all generations of the Goldendoodle. Image source: doodlecreek. It is sometimes called the flat coat and is also common in other dog breeds like the chihuahua and the Golden Retriever. Goldendoodles that inherit the non-curly trait from their parents usually end up with a straight coat type. Since the Golden Retriever is one of the parent breeds responsible for the Goldendoodle, it is clear that a Goldendoodle with a straight coat usually inherits this coat type from the Golden Retriever parent. And it can be found mostly in Goldendoodles of the standard F1 generation. One important characteristic of a Goldendoodle with a straight coat is that they shed a lot more fur than the other 2 Goldendoodle coat types. This means Goldendoodles with straight Goldendoodle coats are not hypoallergenic as they can be bad for people suffering from dog allergies. Cut down on how often you brush your Goldendoodles fur if it is a straight coat. Regular brushing would lead to heavy shedding and more dog fur around the house. They are relatively cheap and could help you take great care of your Goldendoodle straight coat without the risk of excess shedding. Even with that, there are other benefits the curly coat adds to the Goldendoodle. An example would be the level of shedding it offers. Curly coat types are less likely to shed than the straight coat and as such are more hypoallergenic. Curly-coat Goldendoodles can be found in all generations of Goldendoodle, but the possibility of getting a Goldendoodle with a curly coat is almost half, in first-generation breeding. To get a curly coat, a Goldendoodle puppy must inherit one curly gene from each parent of the Goldendoodle. Regular brushing and general grooming are a lot easier as the puppy sheds a lot less. It is in between the curly and the straight coats and has also been classified as low to non-shedding and is therefore hypoallergenic. A Goldendoodle puppy with a wavy or shaggy coat is known to inherit one curly gene and one straight gene from both the Golden Retriever and Poodle parent genes. And this coat type can be found in all generations of the Goldendoodle. Just like the curly coat, you would need to regularly groom and brush the fur of the Goldendoodle with a wavy coat. This is to prevent the hairs from tangling up. It can be a bit difficult trying to predict the exact coat type your Goldendoodle puppy will end up with as genetics can be a little tricky, but how do you tell what coat your Goldendoodle will have? Luckily they are a few methods experienced and reputable breeders use. The more waves or crimps the puppy has, the more curly its hair would be. If the puppy has a rather smooth face with no puppy beard or hair, the chances are that it would end up with a straight or flat coat type. Again, a reputable breeder should know all these, so it is always better to ask them these questions and more before choosing the puppy for you. Goldendoodle Coat Stages From Puppy To Adulthood It is a known fact that Goldendoodles get to change their coats from puppy to adulthood, and as we just learned, there are good methods to help in figuring out what exact coat type your Goldendoodle would end up with while in its adult stage. But when do Goldendoodles lose their puppy coat? Well first off, it is worth noting that the Goldendoodle has two coat stages, the puppy coat stage and the final coat stage. The puppy coat stage lasts from age 0 to 8 months. At this stage, the puppy is born with a very soft coat that is super easy to groom and care for. As the Goldendoodle puppy matures further, it begins to grow into the final coat stage. This adult coat stage starts from 8 months and above. At this stage, the coat of the Goldendoodle becomes a lot more stiff and thick. It can be a little bit difficult to groom and care for and could be either shaggy, straight, or curly. Grooming Your Goldendoodles Caring for its Coat One thing that can be agreed upon from all three coat types of the Goldendoodle is the importance of grooming. Your Goldendoodles coat can only look and feel good when groomed properly. Depending on the exact Goldendoodle coat, how often you groom your Goldendoodle should vary. You can opt to do it yourself or hire a professional with more experience than you have. Here are some basic tips to help you. Wash your Goldendoodle at most once a month with a great quality shampoo. All Goldendoodle coat types aside, the straight coat requires regular brushing. This should be done to get rid of loose hair. The ears should be kept clean. Use an ear cleaner to get rid of the excess moisture that could build up from baths. Which Goldendoodle Coat is The Best? Now that we know all we need to know about each Goldendoodle coat type, which Goldendoodle coat is best for you? It all depends on what works best for you. If you do suffer from dog hair allergies, you can consider getting a Goldendoodle with a curly coat or a wavy coat. Another factor to look out for would be the teddy bear look. Most dog owners love the teddy bear look that Goldendoodles come in. And they are also hypoallergenic. In the end, Goldendoodles are a truly versatile breed. There you have it. All you need to know about the various Goldendoodle coat types alongside various tips on properly grooming your Goldendoodle. Do ensure to check out the website for more engaging and informative content. Flat coats are quite commonly seen in F2 Goldendoodles. These coats are easy to maintain when compared with curlier coated types. However, if you want a Goldendoodle that has the traditional teddy bear look, a flat-coated dog is not for you. Also, these dogs are moderate to high shedders and are, therefore, not recommended for a family with allergies. However, unlike flat-coated Doodles, the straight coat type does have furnishings and the fur tends to be fluffier in texture. Straight coat Goldendoodles are also referred to as loose coats or hair coats, and these pups have coats that are most like a Golden retriever. Also, these dogs do tend to shed quite heavily, making them unsuitable for those with pet allergies. So, if you take on one of these Goldendoodles, you must also be prepared to vacuum your carpets daily! Wavy Coat Image Source: Instagram. A wavy or shaggy coat is the most common type of Goldendoodle coat type, and they are also sometimes called fleece coats. In fact, the wavy coat occurs in all the most popular generations of Goldendoodles, including F1, F1b, and multigenerational dogs. Wavy Goldendoodles can be minimal shedders, although F1 and F2 dogs tend to be moderate to heavy shedders. So, to be certain as to whether your puppy will shed or not, always choose a reputable breeder that has had all their breeding dogs DNA tested. Curly Coat Curly coats are created when the puppy inherits a curl gene from each parent. These dogs have very dense, fleece-like coat characteristics that most closely resemble the coat of the Poodle parent. You will most commonly find curly coats in an F1B Goldendoodle or some of the multigenerational Goldendoodles. However, most owners prefer to have their dogs shaved or clipped. Curly Goldendoodles are minimal to non-shedding coats, which makes these dogs extremely sought after by people with pet allergies. If you leave the coat to grow without having your dog clipped, the curls will become very dense, making it difficult to gauge their length simply by looking at the coat. That said, eventually, the hair will stop growing. To make matters even more confusing, Goldendoodles commonly change color as they mature. Generally, if the puppy has a smooth face without furnishings, he will most likely have an improper or flat coat. Goldendoodle Coat Stages As previously mentioned, Goldendoodle puppies begin shedding their puppy coats once they reach around six months of age. By the time your puppy is eight months old or more, he will have his final adult coat. The final coat is usually not as soft and fluffy as the puppy coat. The coat change can be gradual or sudden, taking a matter of weeks or several months. Also, some super-soft adult Goldendoodle coats are virtually indistinguishable from the puppy coat. Until recently, crossbreeding dogs generally gave unpredictable results with the puppies taking more after one parent than the other. Now, DNA testing is commonly used by good breeders to determine what kind of coat their puppies will have. However, there are a few tried and tested methods of determining what kind of coat the puppy will have as an adult. That can be a good indicator for the coat type your dog will have as an adult. Generally, a prominent mustache is a clear indicator that the puppy will have a curly coat. Dogs that will go on to develop wavy coats tend to grow a shaggy beard around the muzzle. Straight-coated Goldendoodles usually have short, neat hair around their snout. If the puppy is anything other than an F1, first-generation pup, look at both the parent dogs. Generally, puppies take after one parent dog. However, genetics always have the final say when it comes to coat types. Inspiration For Names! One of the fun things about owning a Goldendoodle is choosing a name for your dog. For a few more ideas on what names you can choose for your Doodle puppy, check out this guide! Most people think of the Goldendoodle as having those classic teddy bear looks that everyone finds so adorable. However, not all puppies go on to develop that wavy or curly coat and furnishings that are so desirable. And, of all the generations, the F1B Goldendoodles are much less likely to have a significant coat change as they mature, although the coat coarseness and density are quite likely to increase. Interestingly, English Goldendoodles are more likely to have that boxy teddy bear features than American Goldendoodles. However, both kinds can develop the teddy bear appearance with the correct furnishings. Dogs with any of the three types of Goldendoodle coats can be with or without furnishings. F1 Goldendoodles are most likely to be without furnishings. That involvement entails providing access to the very latest research and expert guidance on canine reproduction, breed development, and puppy development. However, through the careful selection of mates, a good breeder can produce that adorable Teddy Bear look that people love so much. Shedding intensity can also be predicted through careful DNA research and careful breeding. The S gene that gives the dog a short coat is dominant. Doodle coats can be curly, straight, or wavy, depending on the number of curl genes that they take from their parents. What Are Furnishings? Commonly known as the F gene, the gene, RSP02 is responsible for those furnishings. Improper Coat A coat that has no furnishings is known as an improper coat or IC. Goldendoodles that have Ff or F IC or one copy of the furnishings gene tend to be lighter shedders than dogs that do have furnishings. I hope you enjoyed this guide! Sarah Ochoa, DVM When your puppy is firstborn, and as they are growing, it can be very hard to tell what coat type your puppy may have. At first, they may all be very similar. The genes that are expressed their will help indicate what type of coat yours will have. Their offspring are Goldendoodles. These Goldendoodles can then be bred to make more Goldendoodles. Also, a Goldendoodle can be mixed with another poodle or Golden Retriever. Depending on what mix you use will cause varying differences in their hair coats. No matter what mix you can usually make three different coat types. Coat length, furnishings, and non-curl gene that results in a flat coat all depend on the poodle parent and golden retriever parent and what kind of coat genes they had. How to Breed a Goldendoodle to Get the Hair coat you want When looking for a specific coat type, you can look at how your Goldendoodle was bred. When trying to understand the breeding of a Goldendoodle, you may think that you will need to take a little lesson in genetics to help you. This is very easily explained below. By understanding these different ways of breeding, can help you understand what will cause your Goldendoodles to have a certain hair type. These are the common crosses used to make Goldendoodles. This makes an F1. These dogs tend to have wavy or curly hair. After you complete this first cross, there are many different options for producing more Goldendoodles. This may be the most popular type of Goldendoodle. This means that your dog will have a split between the traits of these two dogs. These different crosses are known as F2 or second-generation crosses. These are considered second-generation Goldendoodles or F2. These are called F1B. This is done to bring out more of the poodle traits in the Goldendoodle. If you want a Goldendoodle with a coat very similar to a poodle, this is a great breeding that you will want to look for. These dogs are also very low to non-shedding and usually allergy-free. This dog will be more like a Golden Retriever with less curly hair. Since this dog will have more of the traits of a Golden Retriever, they will also shed more. This cross is not ideal if you have pet-related allergies. This is not a very popular cross as the reasons most people buy a Goldendoodle is for the non-shedding and low allergen dog. Get An Older Goldendoodle While most people want to get their Goldendoodle when they are younger, there are many older Goldendoodles that also need a great loving home. Many breeders will offer older dogs at a discount too. This is the easiest way to get the coat type that you want since they have already lost their puppy coats and have developed the adult coat. Your Goldendoodle can be up to 8 months old before their true coat type is shown. Most Goldendoodles, you can get a good guess at around 4 months, but these pups are growing and changing that even their hair type can change. Most of these dogs will have their adult hair coat between 6 to 8 months, and then you can for sure be able to tell what type of adult coat your dog will have. Most people get their dogs around 8 to 12 weeks, sometimes before then. While the coat type that they have then will be very close to what their hair will look like as an adult, it can always change as they grow. What are the different types of Coats that My Goldendoodle may have? Your Golden doodle can have 3 different coat type or any mixture of the three. Some dogs can actually have all 3 coat types. These are a description of the 3 common coat types seen in Goldendoodles: Shaggy or wavy hair Shaggy or Wavy coat is the most common hair type, and most popular hair type wanted in Goldendoodles. This coat is a mixture of the two parents. The curly Poodle mixed with a straight Golden Retriever makes a soft wavy or shaggy appearance in Goldendoodle puppies. This hair type is known as a teddy bear coat since they resemble a teddy bear. This hair type will require regular brushing to keep them clean and tangle-free. The great thing about this hair coat is that it is usually little to no shedding making it great for people who have pet allergies. These dogs are usually groomed, so they always resemble a teddy bear. This can take some time and patients for your dog to learn to tolerate their grooming. Curly Hair Tight curly hair is very similar to the curly coats of Poodles. Multigenerational goldendoodles are more likely to have this coat. It is closest to non shedding. Some poodles will have curls that are very tight and close to the skin, but some will have loose barrel ringlets. If your Goldendoodle puppy has curls they will need regular grooming to keep them from becoming matted and their hair from taking over. Some pet owners will have their Goldendoodle trimmed short to help avoid matting. This hair type is the second most popular but is very popular with people who have pet allergies. This hair sheds the least and is the most hypoallergenic of the three coat types. Many people who never could have a dog because of their allergies have found it possible to have Goldendoodles with curly coats. Curly Goldendoodles are the most sought after, but they take multiple goldendoodle generations to achieve. If shedding matters to you, choose a reputable breeder. Hypoallergenic Goldendoodles are developed with extensive commitment to breeding dogs, including DNA testing, monitoring what genes each litter is liekly to inherit, and looking for just the right curly coats to breed to produce the curl people want without sacrificing temperament. This hair type is probably the easiest coat to maintain and is a great choice for people who have very little time for the daily brushing the other two types require. The downside to the straight coat is that they will shed. They are also not able to achieve the famous teddy bear look. The teddy bear look is the reason that most of the dogs are sought after. Although many people consider it an improper coat, the short coat with eyebrows can be very cute, and while there may be more dander, there will also be fewer knots. The one thing that makes these dogs look very different than the other two hair types is that these coats usually do not grow a beard around their muzzle. They will have a muzzle very similar to Goldens. Mixed Hair Types Some Goldendoodles can even have a mixed hair type. They may have tight curls around their face and long feathered hair on their legs. Their bodies or ears may have wavy hair. They often have a wavy or shaggy coat overall. These types can require lots of upkeep, as each section will need a different type of grooming to keep them looking great. On the other hand, these three coat types and the variations can create wavy or shaggy coats that are very cute. The smooth face paired with a curly coat collar is a lot of fun. Most people think that this is very easy to determine that their dog will be the same color that they are when they are born. As your puppy is growing and hair type possibly changing, so can their coat color. Your chocolate Goldendoodle puppy may fade to a Parchment color as they get older. There are many different colors that your Goldendoodle may come in. These are the 10 different colors seen in Goldendoodles: Chalk white. In short, no. These coat variations are less like to come up in searches as they may not have the instantly recognizable Doodle-like appearance. How can you tell if a Goldendoodle Puppy will be Curly? Effectively the genetic die has been rolled as soon as your little puppy has been conceived. As they grow inside their mother their DNA is forming that has the recipe for everything from gender to coat type and color. Many new or prospective owners may be selecting a Goldendoodle primarily for their potential to have a curly therefore lower shedding coat but just to make like interesting Goldendoodle are not actually born with their adult coat. Instead, they are born with a fluffy straighter puppy coat and their full adult coat may be different and not fully realized until they are around one year old. Clues that your Goldendoodle May Grow up Curly Many breeders and Goldendoodle owners have suggested that there are some characteristics that can be looked at that often hint at the type of adult coat a Goldendoodle may have. Wavy Adult Coat Puppies may have waved hair around their nose and a general shaggier appearance to the hair around their nose and muzzle. Straight Adult Coat Puppies may have notably straight hair around their nose and generally shorter hair over their muzzle giving a smoother appearance While many breeders may swear by this approach, it is worth remembering this is no exact science and Mother Nature has always been known to throw a curveball now and then. A Little Genetic Help While there is nothing anyone can do to change a coat type once a puppy is born, one way of increasing the chances of having a curly-coated Goldendoodle is to think about the parent mix. In simple terms, breeders can sway the proportion of Poodle genes to increase the chance of Poodle-ish curly coats by breeding a first generation Goldendoodle back with a Poodle. That being said, in a litter of these puppies there can still be wavy and flat coats but likely in lesser numbers. When do Goldendoodles Shed their Puppy Coat? Already mentioned in this article is the fact that Goldendoodles, just like most dogs, are not born in their final coat. They come out, soft, silky, and impossibly cute and have to put some serious work into growing strong and healthy before their adult coat will start to develop. Typically, many Goldendoodles will begin to shed their puppy coats anywhere from six to seven months onwards. The process is very gradual, so gradual in fact that many Goldendoodle owners may not recognize it has started. As puppy coats are generally shorter and less dense than adult coats there is not a large volume of hair to shed as the adult coat comes through. It is important to keep up a regular grooming schedule to avoid the shorter puppy hair getting caught in the denser adult coat coming through which could result in tangles or matting. Do Goldendoodles Coats Change? Goldendoodles are no different from the vast majority of dogs in that their coat will go through some natural and unavoidable changes over their lifetime. The most notable as discussed above is the changing of their puppy coat to their adult hair type. Interestingly though this is not a quick process and while most Goldendoodles will have their adult coat firmly in place by around one year, some can continue to experience changes until around two years. Most owners will know to expect their Goldendoodles adult coat to transition to a bit longer, a bit denser, and generally a bit coarser than their light puppy coat but they may be unprepared to see that color and pattern changes can also occur in their dog from six months right up to around that two-year mark. Often adult coats may be visibly lighter in color than puppy coats which may cause some marking patterns of lighter hair seen on a puppy to blend in and disappear. Alternatively, some Goldendoodle puppies that appeared solid color may develop some mixed color patches or fade in areas such as the face, tail, or body. Most adult Goldendoodles coats have settled by around 2 years and will be fairly fixed until they head into their senior or twilight years. Just like humans, they may experience graying or loss of color pigment. Just as humans will go grey on their head, senior Goldendoodles will often show lightening or loss of color completely around the face and muzzle Personally I love a senior doggo with a white face, I think they look like wise old boys and girls. In addition to color change in your senior Goldendoodle, the texture and density of their coat may change with some evidence of thinning. It is important to note these changes should be gradual. Anyone who encounters sudden or dramatic changes of hair loss in their dog should always seek veterinary advice as it could be an indicator of an underlying health condition or injury. Why is my Goldendoodle not Curly? The curly-coated and wavy coated Goldendoodle is certainly more common overall but what about if your little Goldendoodle ends up the more unique flat coat style? The good news is while they may pass convincingly for a Golden Retriever, they still will be a Doodle mix underneath and have the temperament favored by so many. If you are still struggling to get your head around how the Poodle curls fully skipped your pup there is a handy article already on our site that will tell you all you need to know about the flat coat Goldendoodle. However, life is not always super simple, and some will have a combination of coat types. This most commonly presents as curly over the body and softer waves around the face. These coats are notably curled. The actual curls themselves can vary between barrel-type individual curls or have a tighter, kinky curl appearance. The density of the curls makes this type the least prone to shedding as any hair that does break off gets caught in the coat generally. This means regular, daily, brushing is a must to prevent tangles and mats from occurring. Not only would this be unsightly, left untreated, but hair matting can also be painful and cause underlying skin conditions. Many curly Goldendoodle owners will incorporate 6-toweek grooming sessions to clip the coat to a manageable length to make brushing less arduous. Wavy Coats Wavy-coated Goldendoodles will generally appear longer in hair length than their curly companions and exhibit a more silken softer hair type. This will still need regular brushing however may be easier to get a brush through. Grooming trips are also needed but may not be required as frequently. Think smooth short fur on the face and silky long hair over the body. Think sticks, twigs, and unfortunately mud! Coat Comparisons Post updated I have had many inquires from families wondering what coat type the puppies will have as they mature. When dealing with a Hybrid it is very difficult to predict with certainty what their Adult coat will eventuality end up like. Puppies go through multiple coat changes before their adult coat finally comes in. All newborn goldendoodle puppies look like Golden Retrievers. It is not until around 6 — 7 weeks when we can determine if it will be a Flat Coat goldendoodle — no facial furnishings. We have produced flat coats with both straight hair and with some curls. Below are some of our previous puppies. There are three pictures of each puppy. Notice the progression of the puppy: the first picture is newborn, the next picture is puppy at eight weeks old and the last picture the puppy as an adult. My puppies are lucky to have joined such wonderful, loving families. It makes my day when I get an email from one of our previous puppy families giving me an update and sharing pics of their dog. Thank you! They are fluffy all over including the face. They come in three types — Straight, Wavy, and Curly. Grooming requirements are brushing daily to prevent matting and a trip to the groomers every eight weeks or so.

Here is an excerpt from her article: Dogs decrease loneliness in children. When the older child children go off to school, often younger siblings experience loneliness and are sad from missing the older child. A family dog can serve as a companion and friend. A playful dog provides security that one is not alone, especially when Mommy is busy and cannot spend time reassuring the child. Children who come home to an empty house and have to wait for parents or other siblings to return have someone to share their time with. By having someone to talk to and play with, your child feels much more secure and less anxious about being alone. Be sure to read the rest of her article, Ten Reasons to Own a Dog. I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. Choosing a Good Boxer Seller and Breeder The best Boxer puppies only come from those who take an extra mile in caring for them. Below are certain qualities that you should look for in a Boxer puppy breeder. The Boxer breeder should only breed Boxer puppies. A single breed should be the first thing to remember when searching for a reputable Boxer breeder. Every breed has a mating season to which they breed. If the Boxer breeder sells quite a lot of pups but only has a pair of parents, you can think that it forces the parents to mate so they can have puppies to sell. Chance was an owner surrender to the animal shelter and was in rough shape. Along with a really nasty skin condition, he was emaciated, had an upper respiratory infection, UTI, GI worms, and heart worms. It was clearly evident he had been neglected and abused. He got treated and well fed with a heaping side of love and care so he could be ready to meet his new family. Even though he had a rough patch, he still loves and want to be loved. He is a true velcro Boxer and want to be with you and cuddle. If he can't cuddle, he will be at your side, waiting for your attention and to look into your soul with those big, chocolate eyes. He wants to do whatever you do and be where you are. He is such a joy to be with. He had a good life before his previous owner, so he was already neutered and knew manners and commands. He is very smart and love treats, so I he picks new things up fast. He is house broken and know to stop something if mom says "uh-uh no" or "leave it" in her firm voice. He doesn'tt chew anything and doesn't counter surf. He only barks at delivery people. Chance can share his people, toys, and his bed, but please let him have his food to himself - he didn't always have food and worries. Chance knows the up and down commands, though he won't get on furniture unless you tell me it is okay each time. He also know sit, stay, come, and shake. Chance walk easy on a leash and loves his walks. He corrects easy with voice commands and gentle pressure on the leash. Sometimes, something fun to chase goes by and he wants to get it. He uses a harness and that helps him learn not to do that. He is already much better at it, except with cats and rabbits - those are too exciting. Some of his favorites include car rides, walks, being outdoors, toys, and cuddling. Part of his past was being crated all day, every day without bathroom breaks, enough food, or play time. So please let him play often, with lots of exercise. Also, Chance can not ever be crated at home, the vet or boarding except in emergencies and with medication. Crating triggers panic attacks for him specifically because of his past. The good thing is, he is such a good boy free roam, you don't need to crate him! Chance very much likes dogs and wants to play, but his foster Boxer brother is really old and can't play. He plays with his people and neighbor dogs. Chance does a good job, but can miss some doggie signals and will need help learning all of them for playtime. He acts like a big puppy, so he could knock down or step on little children with his zoomies. He does love all the rubs, pets, hugs, cuddles, ear smooshing, kisses, and scratches you can dish out. He also is happy to be lifted for a bath, car ride, or vet exam, though. We know some of the abuse in Chance's past was done by a man. He is scared of some men - not all men, but certain actions done by men trigger memories. He is not scared of the women and kids he has met. It took Chance a few days to trust him, but I love my foster dad now. He now trusts that his foster family will only let safe people in the house and will steer wide of men on walks doing any of those scary things like swinging a tool or carrying a load overhead. Chance now enjoys walks and visitors to his house. Interested in me? If so, fill out an application and mention Chance.
