British bulldog British Bulldogs are the standard English Bulldogs that you think of or see the majority of the time. They have a brown and white coat with dark brown eyes and are the least expensive of the English Bulldog variations. Mini bulldog The Mini Bulldog - sometimes called the Toy Bulldog - is a variation of English Bulldogs that is the same in just about every way, except that they are much smaller. They also tend to have less wrinkly and chubby physiques, which may appeal to certain owners. Unlike other toy breeds, though, the Mini Bulldog is not as small as you might expect. It's somewhere in between the standard English Bulldog and a Chihuahua. So think of them as a slightly smaller Bulldog rather than a tiny one. Mini Bulldogs have been bred since the s, though they didn't really find their footing until the s and s. While the breed became popular, the reduction in health issues has mostly been negligible. They can eat any dog food and be ok, though high-quality dog food is generally recommended. Just make sure that whatever dog food you are feeding them is relevant to their needs puppy, adult, senior, indoor, outdoor, etc. The one thing to keep in mind about English Bulldogs when it comes to their diet is that they can be particularly prone to becoming overweight. This is because they don't exercise as much as other dogs. So, make sure that you aren't ever overfeeding your English Bulldog. Treats are ok to give them during training, although it's easy to overfeed them on treats if you aren't careful. Grooming English Bulldogs are prone to shedding more than most dogs, so you'll need to make an active effort to keep their coats in check. This can be done by giving them a thorough brushing two to three times each week. When shedding is heavier, you may find that a rubber curry brush works best. The wrinkles around your bulldogs face will need to be cleaned periodically, as food, dirt, and moisture can all become trapped there. A cotton swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide is helpful for cleaning their wrinkles. For drying their wrinkles after cleaning, applying cornstarch to moist areas works best. Just be sure that cornstarch is not applied near their eyes. Their nails should be trimmed every two weeks or so as well. Exercise English Bulldogs are not very athletic dogs, so laidback owners will have a nice time relaxing with their Bulldog. Fortunately, there is a medication that your vet can prescribe to combat this issue. Another issue that Bulldogs are prone to get in their eyes is cherry eye. This is when one of the glands in their eyes starts to protrude, resembling a cherry in the corner of their eye. This will sometimes need to be surgically removed by a vet. In females, this means we surgically remove the ovaries and usually the uterus, and in males, it means we surgically remove the testicles. This is one of the most commonly inherited diseases in dogs, and your Bulldog is more likely than other dogs to develop this painful condition. If untreated, these abnormal hairs can cause corneal ulcers and chronic eye pain. Several treatment options are available, and the prognosis is good once the hairs have been permanently removed. Entropion is a condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the cornea surface of the eyeball. This is an extremely irritating and painful condition that can ultimately lead to blindness. It can happen in any dog breed; however, your Bulldog is especially at risk for this heritable disorder. Surgical correction is usually successful if performed early. Dry eye, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca or KCS, is common in Bulldogs. The tear glands no longer produce enough tears to keep the eye moist, which results in sore, itchy eyes and infections. Ownership is very personable. Heidi knows each dog personally and individually trains walkers by accompanying them to visit dogs. I cannot recommend Dogs Love Running enough. It's a really well-run business, operated by people who are totally trustworthy, and who really DO care about your pet. They are completely deserving of your business! She is excellent with Sabrina and always her kind and thoughtful notes she always leaves me about Sabrina. Our dog looks forward to her twice a week 30 minute walk. You can tell our dog loves the extra attention she gets on those days. In addition, Amy lets her out if we are going to be gone to long on a weekend and also is going to be taking car of her while we go out of town. She always leaves a detailed note which we appreciate. Sayres flew into town to explain that there are a shortage of dogs, and he insisted that dogs purchased at pet stores are from regulated and licensed sources and encouraged the Naperville Council members NOT to ban sales of dogs and cats at pet stores. However, in testimony in Naperville, Sayres sang a very different song as he suggested that the demand for dogs exceeds the supply and supported sales at pet stores, even implying as a better choice than shelters. Anyway, dogs are a huge part of my life and recently my family added two more dogs to our family, two English Bulldogs. We have had bulldogs in the past, and my mom has been wanting another one for a long time. That is where Maggie May comes in. I arrived home one Sunday after work to a mother that was anxious for some reason. Needless to say, she was waiting for me to walk into the living room to see my reaction to the newest addition to the family. My reaction was like a small child's reaction on Christmas morning, I was completely surprised to see this tiny puppy sitting on my stepdad's lap and then I cried because I was so happy. Not only has my mom been wanting a bulldog for a long time, but I've been wanting another dog for just as long. The only difference is I didn't care what kind of dog we got. I was completely happy to have Maggie apart of our family. We like to call her the cow because of her black and white markings. Then Zoey Rae comes into the story, who is Maggie's sister actually. My mother got really close with the breeder she got Maggie from and found out that one of her sister's family didn't work out like it was supposed to and what does my mom do, she says we will take the dog into our family. The breeder was happy that we said that and she was also happy that Maggie and Zoey were going to be in the same family so that they could grow up together. Zoey was a little bit bigger than her sister Maggie and she had the brindle coloring instead of the cow looking fur, but we loved her just the same. I keep saying I can't wait for them to get older when they get a little fatter. We had only had Maggie for about two and a half weeks before we went to pick Zoey up and let me tell you that having two puppies in one house at the same time has not been a walk in the park. We also have another dog in the the house, a Pomsky named Koda Bear. She is almost two years old and has had a rough time adjusting to the two new pups in the house. There has been a lot of fighting, yelling, and getting mad at each other and that is just between my parents and myself. The dogs themselves have gotten into several fights and screaming matches. So what exactly is it like to live with two bulldog puppies and a little bit older Pomsky you ask? Well, it's not easy, I will tell you that. We thought it was going to be a good thing to have two puppies from the same litter in the same home, and for the most part it was a good thing but at other times it was like hell because all they did was fight and bite each other. It would be quiet for a long time and then you hear a blood hurting cry come from one of the pups, and most of the time it was coming from Zoey. Fighting isn't the only thing we have to deal with when it comes to the pups. There is also a lot more clean up when you have more than one dog. They are puppies after all and we know that they don't have strong bladders yet, so we try to take them outside as soon as they wake up from a nap and also a hour or so after they eat a meal, but sometimes we don't always get them outside in time and they pee on the floor. This makes it a little frustrating because now we have to try and tackle three dogs while trying to clean up a mess on the floor. Yet, for the most part potty training two puppies at once is a lot easier than if we would have had to train them at separate times. We are sort of killing two birds with one stone in this instance. Meal times are a little hard as well because our older dog, Koda, is used to eating whenever she wants. We call her a grazer because we used to leave her food bowl out all day and she would just eat whenever she got hungry. We couldn't exactly do that same thing with the puppies because they need to be fed a certain amount of food each day and at specific times. So we can no longer leave Koda's food bowl out for her because the puppies will go to her bowl and eat her food when they are done with their own food. We also have to be careful with the water bowl around the puppies because all they want to do is drink water all the time and with potty training them we try not to have them drink water after 8 p. Meal time training is going to take a while to get used to and it is going to take a while before we can leave the food and water out whenever. Now I know I have told you some of the hard times when it comes to having two puppies in the house but don't get me wrong there are some really good times as well. One of my favorite things since having the puppies in the house is that at night our older dog, Koda, actually sleeps in my room which is not normal for her because she normally sleeps in my parents' bed. I like having Koda in my room at night. I like the fact that I can reach over and pet her and know that I have someone with me at night. I also love all of the cute pictures that I have been able to take because of these two adorable puppies. They have also just given us more joy in our lives and have given us something to play with in our free time. I also like that they love to snuggle, at least at this point in their lives. Zoey is a bigger snuggler than her sister, Maggie but that is okay because snuggling isn't for everyone. There have been ups and downs to having two puppies in one house at one time, but I don't think we would change anything. We love both of these puppies the same and we look forward to however long these puppies are in our lives and hope to make many memories with them in the future.
