In a case like this, we would recommend spending some time working with him on socialization skills either in class or simply by introducing him to other dogs in the park. This way, an otherwise isolated dog can have the chance to prove that he does well with other dogs. It is the canine way more ahead on how to help them with this. But in order for this to happen, both dogs and certainly the one that is already established in the house needs to know that the human s are the true leaders. How to Keep Both Boxers Happy There is typically a transition time in which the dogs will have to get used to having the other permanently there. While they may have gotten along nicely when meeting, now that they are in the same house, they will be feeling each other out and needing to get a few things straight. Who's the Leader - The most important element touched on above is that while the human must be seen as the one true leader, among the two Boxer dogs, there will also be a leader. One Boxer will be more dominate than the other. It may make sense at first to assume that the established one will be in charge. However this is not always the case. Also, some assume that the male - no matter his age - will take dominance over the female; this is also not always true. In most cases, the Boxer that was there first - and especially if he is older - will be the one. Most dogs will figure this out on their own. There may be a transitional time when one tries to take a toy and the Boxer that really wants to be in charge will put the other in his place with nudging or a snap in the air. Only intervene if it appears it will endanger one of them. With most, there will be a bruised ego and nothing more. For example, if you have a 4 year old male Boxer and are bringing in a one year old female or male ,the 4 year old will take leadership. With two dogs of the same age , it can get a bit tricky. You may or may not notice either stepping forward as they may work it out among themselves. Once you know which dog is the leader, make him be first in regard to any food given, treats handed out, greetings when you enter the house, putting on leashes, and all other elements. Separate Spaces for Twins - Once the issue of hierarchy is complete this usually happens within just a week or two , you will now have two dogs that are inseparable. Despite this, there may be times when they do want their own space. It could be when a female is in heat and is feeling a bit moody… or an older dog may do well with a younger Boxer until he reaches a point of just needing a break. For this reason, have two separate dog beds or other comfortable area for either puppy or dog to retreat to if they wish. The new dog will know another dog lives there just from smelling around. This begins the introduction process. Give the new dog about 45 minutes to an hour to figure things out and calm down some from the drive and coming into a new home. Then let your other dog out of the bedroom. Have him in a training collar and leash. The new dog will begin to figure out the social dynamics of your family and will pick up on a lot just by watching through the crate. The dogs should be able to meet through the crate. If both dogs are relaxed and not exhibiting any dominate behavior, praise both dogs. Leave the new dog in the crate for the rest of that day and the next before introducing them outside the crate. When you do introduce them outside the crate, have them both on chain collars and leashes loose again until you are sure they will be okay. Feeding Always, always feed your new dog separately from your current dog. Many of the dogs in rescue have been on the street and have had to fight for food in the past. Most of them will get past this with time and after they befriend your other dog. The separation of food extends to bones, rawhides, and sometimes even toys. Let the dogs get to know one another before expecting them to be able to share these types of things. Go for a Walk Before rushing to introduce both dogs, even if they have initially met away from home, start by taking both dogs out for a relaxing stroll together. Walking accomplishes a number of positive steps including: stress release for a dog coming into a new home, physical and mental stimulation for everyone dog and human , an opportunity for a potty break to set good habits for the new pooch, and a pack building and trust forming exercise for the dogs. Walking gives the dogs a chance to share space and learn about one another without the stimulation and uncertainty of direct interaction and contact. Begin the walk with the dogs not close enough to touch. They will be able to see and smell each other without actually making contact. Start off on a nice, neutral walk and make sure to go around your neighborhood so the new dog can learn about where it lives and how to find their its way home should he or she ever get out accidentally. We fostered before rescuing Daisy. So we had the experience of a 2nd boxer, prior to the 2nd boxer. Rosco just turned a year when we rescued Daisy. Daisy was 8 months old. They are 6 months apart in age. Rosco is my Guenther very needy, active, stubborn, smart, playful, and is always getting into mischief. Daisy is much more calm, flexible, and go with the flow. Rosco is dominant of the two. What I found was that, Rosco became a bit jealous still is at times. If you show Daisy affection, he will get in the middle. Daisy followed Rosco mostly but it truly was a match meant to happen. Rosco takes care of her too. If I let Daisy outside and walk away from the door, Rosco scratches and follows me around until I let him out so he can be with her. They play boy do they play and entertain each other. Rosco and Daisy not only entertain each other but sleep together, exercise run , play, drool, wiggle although in opposite directions and seek constant attention from us. I hope that helps. But there is some logic here! Cream Labradoodle Genetics With so much variety in the cream coat color spectrum, you may be surprised to learn a single color pigment is driving all of them. This pigment is called phaeomelanin. It controls the red spectrum of coat colors. It is yellow or gold. Phaeomelanin is running the show in determining whether a Labradoodle will grow up to have a cream coat. But there are lots of other genes working behind the scenes to influence how creamy that coat will look. Phaeomelanin is a form of pigment, or melanin. Melanocytes have the job of adding phaeomelanin to each hair as it grows out. Sometimes they may add in a bit more color pigment at first and slack off later. This is why some but not all cream Labradoodle dogs will grow up to have adult coats that are darker at the hair tips than they are at the hair roots. This Causes the Variations This is one way — but not the only way — that a cream Labradoodle can grow up to have a darker cream or a lighter cream coat. These are the hair follicle cells responsible for giving this Labradoodle their lovely coat color. But what is telling each melanocyte how much of which pigment to add to each developing coat hair? A collection of genes is called a genotype. How those genes appear or show up is called their phenotype. So a cream Labradoodle has the genes for a cream coat phenotype. When it comes to coat color, eumelanin black is dominant and phaeomelanin red is recessive. When a gene is dominant, a puppy only needs to get that gene from one parent dog to have it show up express. But when a gene is recessive, the puppy needs to get that gene from both parent dogs to express it. Now you are probably starting to see why breeders can spend a lifetime studying the genome just for their own breeding dogs. This is especially the case when you consider that a Labradoodle is a breed that is still rather early in their evolution. F1, F2 and Beyond! In early stage F1, F1b breeding programs, the breeder may be working with the coat color genotypes of two completely different purebred dog breeds. This gets more complicated still when you consider that both parent dogs must contribute the cream coat genotype in order for a puppy to inherit the cream coat. In other words, only two true cream Labradoodle parent dogs will be able to breed cream Labradoodle puppies. Eumelanin is responsible for black and the various shades in that color spectrum. Nose color: Depending on the breed association you consult with, a true cream Labradoodle will have either a black, brown, or rose pinkish nose. Eye color: Cream Labradoodles will usually have dark brown eyes. Skin color: Cream spectrum Labradoodles will have black eye rims and lips. Nail color: Generally, this color Labradoodle will have black nails. Labradoodles are large dogs that will generally fall somewhere between the sizes of their two parents. While color genes are the primary driver when a Labradoodle puppy inherits a cream coat, there can be other factors at work as well. Diet, exposure to ultraviolet light, type of shampoo, overall health. This is why cream Labradoodles can be quite rare. Not only do they need a very specific set of genes, but they also may change color as they grow older. If coat color is really important to you, rescuing an older cream doodle might be a better route. Cream Labradoodle Temperament Just like their coat color, Labradoodles will inherit temperament traits from their parent breeds. In general, you can expect your creamy doodle to be friendly, intelligent, energetic, and eager to please. These mix breeds need plenty of energy too, no matter what their color. Cream Labradoodle Health Labradoodles are a very new breed, so predicting health concerns that could affect them is still quite tricky. Also, learn more about the health issues that can affect the two parent breeds — Labs and Poodles. Mixed dogs can inherit health problems from their parents, so can be at risk of the same problems. Only ever choose reputable breeders that health test their dogs. This will minimise the risk of your puppy growing up with heritable health problems. And, as we learnt earlier, breeders can label the same shade in different ways. To some, a puppy might be off-white, but to others, it could be light caramel. This can make your search harder. But, no matter how you go about it, make sure to only choose reputable breeders that look after their animals and health test. Never choose puppies from puppy mills or pet stores. Knowing the most common causes and treating minor problems with diarrhea can help your bully in the short-term, but you may want to seek the help of a vet if you feel it's more persistent and debilitating. Basically, your bully may have IBS problems due to chronic food allergies. They tend to have food allergies and sensitivities that lead to diarrhea episodes. In most cases, it's just gas. French bullies are known for their flatulence, in fact. There are several reasons that your pup may have diarrhea, but in a French bulldog's case, it's typically due to food allergens. There are also parasites, gastrointestinal diseases, and other issues that could be triggering this response. This is why it's important to monitor your bully and see if they are eating well, drinking water, and generally up to their old tricks and happiness levels. Symptoms of French Bulldog Diarrhea The symptoms will range depending on whether the problem is due to allergies or a medical condition. You may see a loose stool, watery discharge, constipation, or frequent need to defecate. You may also notice that your pup's stomach is groaning, and they'll typically be a bit gassy. You should also look out for other changes in your bulldog's stool, such as different colors like light green or even near-white diarrhea. You should look for the following conditions: Pancreatic disease Addison's disease Ehrlichiosis tick-borne illness If it's a more serious issue, you'll likely notice other symptoms about your pup, such as hanging, loos skin with a very tight, round stomach. This is a sign of bloating in autoimmune liver diseases, and your pup may need to be drained before switching to another diet. What Diet Should French Dogs Eat to Avoid Diarrhea French bulldogs, unfortunately, have a predisposition for different allergens in food, which is why they aren't supposed to eat the following: Corn. This is one cause of diarrhea I have seen over many years of breeding and experience with my French Bulldogs. They need a stable, loving environment first and foremost. Another cause of diarrhea can be sudden change in food, eating table scraps, eating rancid food, an intolerance to any specific ingredient, or food poisoning. If you think your French Bulldog might be intolerant allergic to an ingredient, ask your vet for an allergy test. If you are thinking about switching foods, do so slowly to avoid causing diarrhea. Mix the new food into the old food, each day decreasing the amount of old food, and increasing the amount of new food until you are only using the new food. Next likely cause is parasites. Dogs like to lick their behinds, some lick other dogs behinds. Some dogs even eat feces that they find outside. No matter how clean you keep your beloved pet they are most likely carriers of parasites. Giardia a single celled parasite can be found in the water, and even on the grass. It will live for months in moist conditions so all it takes is your Frenchie going on a walk outside, coming home, and licking his paws. Your vet should have your French Bulldog on a regular deworming schedule. I personally deworm once or twice a year preventatively with fenbendazole for five days following my vets recommendation for dosage which depends on weight. Its very important to remember you must follow up with a second treatment in two weeks. This is because many dewomers only kill the live parasite, but not the eggs. Not all dewormers target the same kinds of parasites. The transmitter of tapeworms are fleas. So if your French Bulldog has fleas, treat the fleas at the same time as tapeworm. If you see blood in your dogs poop they are likely infected with coccidia another type of parasite. Your vet can take a poop sample to test for parasites and give you medicine if you are not sure what they might be infected with and what to treat with. I deworm my French Bulldog puppies preventatively with fenbendazole and albon before they come home to their fur-ever family. However, giardia particularly can be resistant to treatment and persist in the right conditions. The right conditions would be including stress, very young or very old age, during pregnancy, active disease or condition which depresses the immune system. I mentioned earlier that separation anxiety can cause so much stress to a newly rehomed puppy that it depresses the immune system. Only tender loving care, and time can help with separation anxiety. However there are other things you can do to strengthen the immune system for example feeding super premium, easy to digest food, and probiotics to help the gut. I also feed my French Bulldogs ground raw pumpkin seeds which are a natural dewormer and help to make the poop solid. Yet another cause of diarrhea can be from a virus. Parvovirus and distemper both cause diarrhea and can be fatal. It is transmitted through contamination with infected feces and can be very difficult to treat in young puppies. Your vet can quickly test for parvo with a poop sample. My puppies come home with a minimum of their first set of vaccinations including parvovirus, distemper, parainfluenza, and adenovirus. That being said, the puppy will still need booster shots so talk to your vet about what vaccines your puppy might be due for. If your French Bulldog continues to have diarrhea despite ruling out anxiety, food related issues, parasites, and virus I would talk to your vet about ordering a lab to check for pancreatitis.
