You will not see rows of cages, no permanent outdoor living areas or separation of our dogs from each other except during times of heat cycles. From fur on our couch and floors to stepping over Labrador speed bumps in our kitchen, we embrace them one and all! Our family works around the clock when the pups are young and we continue personal, engaged care for each puppy in our litter during their time with us. We make sure all are well-cared for and provide them with exercise, a bit of training, lots of loving and good, plain common sense while they are in our care. Pugs can become famous themselves too, such as in the case of Sir Henry, the Pug belonging to society lady Uschi Ackerman with its own Facebook page and Pug collection. These charming dogs with an often surly or melancholic facial expression win hearts in a flash with their cheerful, humorous and lively manner. They are neither aggressive nor combative with counterparts or other pets, but instead are sociable and get on well with everyone. They are adaptable and easy-going, hence make ideal companion or family dogs. The history of the Pug breed has not been clarified exactly, but presumably originates from East Asia, most probably from China. It was tradition there to breed small dogs that have short, wide and flat heads as a common feature. The first European country the Pug made it to was probably the Netherlands by sea around .The House of Orange had a special relationship with this breed after a Pug called Pompey warned its owner, Wilhelm the Silent, of an assassin by barking loudly and saving his life. In the 18th century, the Pug experienced a boom, which was reflected in paintings, chinaware, songs and stories. The cornerstone of a healthy life — the right diet from the very beginning The Pug is a small dog breed and reaches a height of around 26 to 34cm and an ideal weight of approx. You should make sure its food has an adapted amount of calories, since if not, the Pug can reach a higher weight than foreseen and develop an unstable bone structure. By nature, the Pug has a compact physique with good, strong muscles. Hence, it needs sufficient exercise and a balanced needs-based diet. In order for the little Pug to make a healthy start to its life, you should take care to ensure its puppy food contains a balanced and appropriate proportion of calories, minerals, trace elements and vitamins. Feeding recommendations for puppy food are based on the current weight of the puppy and the predicted weight of the dog as an adult. The weight of the parent animal of the same sex acts as a guideline for this. Properties of Animonda vom Feinsten Junior: Balanced energy provision with all required nutrients. The Best Food for Pug Puppies and Adults What to Avoid: Quite a few ingredients that are found in a lot of dog food brands can be severely detrimental to a Pug and cause everything from allergic reactions itching, rashes, wheezing, running eyes, etc. Corn which includes as corn germ meal, corn gluten meal, and corn bran High grain counts which includes high levels of wheat, oats, barley, and other cereal grains which may be listed as hominy feed. Rice can be an exception; with rice, the hull, bran layer, and cereal germ is removed and for this reason, rice is often tolerated very well. By-products which are animal body parts deemed unfit for human consumption and can include brain, lungs, undeveloped eggs, and more. Generic meats or oils which can legally include roadkill and deceased zoo animals. What to Look For: All-natural preservatives; there are vitamin blends that work very well to preserve dog food and this often will show as mixed tocopherols. Natural flavoring Protein will come from wholesome animal sources including chicken, turkey, lamb, fish, bison, and beef. There will be no by-products or generic meats. If you offer grains, gluten-free grains are usually best. No other fillers or controversial additives. Helpful extras such as glucosamine and chondroitin beneficial for joint health , omega-3, 6 for healthy skin and coat , probiotics for immune health and antioxidants to help prevent disease. Switching a Pug onto a Different Food If you just got a new Pug puppy, you may want to feed your little guy or gal something different than what was being given. And in many instances, this will be a good idea. The sooner you start your pup on a superior food that you've chosen yourself, the better. If you have an adult Pug, you may decide to switch foods due to an intolerance to certain ingredients some dogs do best with certain proteins like beef as opposed to chicken or vice-versa or maybe you realized that your Pug was not on the brand and you want to make a change. No matter the circumstances, if at all possible, it is best to change to a new brand of dog food in a gradual way because a quick switch can disrupt the digestive system. The goal should be a incremental change over the course of 3 weeks. Home Cooking Owners decide to home cook for their dogs for a variety of reasons: It can be less expensive; though, this depends quite a bit on what you buy and if you can purchase ingredients in bulk. It may be done to fully avoid preservatives, additives, by-products and other subpar ingredients; you know exactly what you are putting in. And moist treats, meant to reward training and reinforce good behavior, should be given as needed. Now, the question remains on what to offer. With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. It can work successfully and wonderfully but only with the proper care and consideration taken into account. We'd like to share some of the more common issues with you. Bulldogs are Sensitive to Heat You should be able to provide a home where the bulldog is comfortable with the temperature and never panting. For some areas of Hawaii, this requires air conditioning. For other areas, this only requires a fan. Some healthy bulldogs may be able to play at the beach without overheating, others may not. You should evaluate your own dog and have a feel for what they are comfortable in, and can tolerate. Hawaii rabies laws prevent shipping bulldog puppies into the State until a certain age. It is difficult to ship a bulldog into Hawaii this applies for all dogs because Hawaii is rabies free and has certain restrictions for bringing animals into the State. There is a process where it is possible, but it requires the dog going through a specific procedure that takes months and can be costly. The other options are to either ship the dog from a rabies-free country OR quarantining it in Hawaii for a long period of time very costly. First of all, all of the options require putting the dog on an airplane for a long period of time, which is very risky discussed in 3. Secondly, if your goal is to have a good pet for your family, missing out on the quality part of their youth, where they should be bonding with you and trained properly, will likely adversely affect the long term relationship you have with the dog, and its personality. Bulldogs do not do well on airplanes. Any time you put a bulldog on an airplane, you are taking a risk because of their sensitive breathing issues. Many airlines will not even accept bulldogs any more due to this. We've heard too many stories of bulldogs dying on planes and feel it our responsibility to bring up the issue. Inter-island flights are one thing as they are shorter in nature. Hawaiian airlines will let you fly your puppy for free in the cabin with you, as long as they are small enough to fit under the seat. This is not as great of a risk since you will be there with the puppy to monitor it and it will have the same air and pressure as a human. Putting a bulldog in baggage underneath the plane is another story for a long cross-Pacific flight. This should be avoided at all times if at all possible and is one reason we do not support buying bulldogs from outside of Hawaii. We do know of several people that were successful doing this but also know of other people that were not. It is a real risk for the dog. If you are in a situation where you have to fly your dog then we suggest doing extensive research to first try to find a way to fly your dog in the passenger cabin with you not sure any airlines do this anymore. If you are flying inter-island which is obviously not as much as a risk, but still a risk, especially if the dog has to fly in baggage because they are larger , then we recommend Hawaiian airlines. Bulldogs are more expensive in Hawaii. Isn't everything though? Given the cost and risk of shipping one from outside of Hawaii, this does even out. Why are they more expensive? First of all, vet care is more expensive in Hawaii thus raising the costs of breeding. Secondly, it is rare to find a good quality stud dog in Hawaii especially a champion so a conscientious breeder that cares about quality will most likely be shipping semen in from the mainland. The semen shipping costs alone can double the price of stud services. This raises the cost of the bulldog. Additionally, shipping in semen means either surgically implanting or artificially inseminating cooled or frozen semen for the breeding. This is an expensive vet bill compared to if the stud were in Hawaii. Good breeders take this all into consideration and obviously will be paying more for the breeding because they care about the quality of the puppies. But it also will mean the ending price of the puppy will be higher. Lastly, general care for the bitch and puppies is higher in Hawaii due to the general higher cost of living here basic supplies like electricity to wash blankets, food for the puppies, bottles, cleaning supplies, etc. These costs DO add up over the duration of the breeding. The price depends on many factors and can be lower or higher than this average. A reputable breeder should be able to explain why their puppies are higher or lower priced. E-mail: rfb hawaiiantel. The cost of a French Bulldog varies depending on whether it was purchased from a reputable breeder, a rescue organization, a farm, or a puppy mill. Because all expenses are included in the price, it appears to be extremely exorbitant. Rare hues, such as blue, lilac, chocolate, and others, are more expensive than standard colors. Although the AKC does not accept Frenchies with these unusual hues, they are in high demand among buyers. Because of the wide price range, buying a French Bulldog can be difficult. How to raise French Bulldogs? To do so, you must adhere to a set of guidelines. As soon as your dogs arrive home, begin teaching them. Housebreaking Frenchies is notoriously difficult. Crate training is the greatest technique to teach them not to go potty inside the house from a young age. You should feed the puppies healthy food that will aid in their development. Running and playing space is essential for Frenchies. As a result, they should have enough room to walk around. It is entirely up to you to decide how you will treat your pet. The French Bulldog requires a lot of attention and is more expensive than other dog breeds in terms of vet visits. Spinal issues, heart defects, joint illness, and eye difficulties are common in French Bulldogs. How do you find French Bulldog Breeders in Hawaii? If you have the right information, finding a French Bulldog puppy in Hawaii may be a lot of fun. Look for the article about French Bulldog breeders. Another intriguing platform where you can find a lot of genuine reviews is Facebook. It will assist you in making the most informed choices possible. First and foremost, do a great deal of research on this breed. Why avoid puppy mills and backyard breeders while choosing a French Bulldog puppy in Hawaii? Puppy mills are businesses that produce a significant number of pups in a short period. The bulk of the time, the number takes precedence over quality. Animal welfare is never a priority for them. Puppies do not receive adequate medical attention or nutritious nourishment. Backyard breeders, on the other hand, are amateurs. As a result, they are frequently confronted with unplanned dog pregnancies. Furthermore, when breeding, they do not take into account health or genetic difficulties. Even if French Bulldog puppies are not less priced, I do not appreciate interested buyers purchasing a puppy from them. How to train a French Bulldog? A French Bulldog can be simple to train, but it can also be obstinate. As a result, when training this breed, a trainer must be enduring. Before you begin training, you must first learn about the breed and what drives them. A large number of training tools, as well as a silent space, are required. The basic commands for puppies should be taught first. Sit, stay, leave it, and down are examples of basic orders. Before going on to the next command, you should focus on one and master it. When the dogs arrive, begin potty training them. Begin training with a monetary reward. Keep the workout brief. If not, the dogs may become bored. A French Bulldog comes in a variety of hues, including white, cream, tan, black, blue, brindle, merle, chocolate, piebald, and so on. Some of these colors have been authorized by the breed group, while others have not. The hues white, cream, white, and cream can be found in abundance in nature. However, brindle is the oldest and most popular color of French Bulldog. The dark, primary color of Brindle-colored Frenchies is contrasted with light strands. Rare colors include pure black, blue, merle, and others. Because there is so much disagreement about the health of these Frenchies, they are not considered a standard color. Please let me know his name if this is the case. Please leave a remark if you have any positive experiences with any Hawaii French Bulldog breeders. It will aid in the decision-making process for a large number of people. Which of the six breeders did you prefer? Please let me know if there is anything else I should include in the comments section. Michelle Brown.

You can also visit local pet stores and ask employees if they know of any reputable breeders in the area. It is important to find a responsible breeder who is willing to answer all of your questions and who has healthy, well-socialized puppies. Buying a puppy from a breeder who is not reputable can lead to health problems and other issues down the line. When purchasing a puppy, it is important to choose a breeder who has had lots of experience with raising German Shepherds. Visit Your Connecticut German Shepherd Breeder in Person With almost all breeders, you will need to fill out applications, come visit them or make arrangements via phone calls to see the puppies. Most breeders want the puppies to go to their new home after 8 weeks of age. This is also a great time to have the pups vaccinated, wormed, and checked by a vet. All good breeders will insist on this. Visiting the puppies to see how they interact with their mom and littermates is also a great way to see if they are well-socialized. Reputable breeders will have no problem allowing you to come to see the puppies and their living conditions. They should also be more than willing to share with you any health clearances and show you the parents of the breed. When visiting a breeder, always be on the lookout for unhealthy puppies. If you see any of these signs, it is best to walk away and find another breeder. They should be happy to provide you with the names and phone numbers of previous puppy buyers. Call these references and ask them about their experience with the breeder. Were the puppies healthy? Was the breeder responsive to any questions or concerns? Did the breeder provide additional training or support after the sale? If the breeder does not want to give you references, this is a big red flag and you should walk away. A good breeder will have nothing to hide and will be more than happy to provide you with references. The references will give you great insight into the quality of the breeder. This will give you a good idea of what the puppies are like and if the breeder is reputable. Most responsible breeders will be more than happy to let you meet some of their past customers. They should also be able to provide you with contact information for these people. When meeting past customers, be sure to ask them lots of questions about their experience with the breeder. If you get a positive response from all of the people you talk to, it is a good indication that you have found a responsible breeder. Keep in mind, however, not everyone will have only positive things to say about their breeder. Also, some former customers may be reluctant to provide you with too much information. If the breeder you are talking to does not have any references and will not let you meet any past customers, that is a red flag. Not only will a good breeder be able to provide you with references for their business, but they should also have no problem giving you the name of their veterinarian. This is extremely important if you are looking to purchase a puppy because it will help ensure that your pup is healthy. Reputable breeders will work closely with their vet and know them very well. Responsible breeders are also concerned about raising healthy puppies, not just being able to sell puppies quickly so they will take the pups back at any time if they become sick or develop health problems. If this happens, you want to make sure the breeder you are working with will be able to help you get the pup the medical care he needs. If your breeder cannot or will not give you the name of their vet, this should be a red flag. These breeders will not hesitate to sell sick puppies or puppies that have genetic disorders. They may also be selling puppies from multiple breeds and not just German Shepherds. If you are looking for a healthy and well-bred puppy, it is important to be able to spot the signs of an unethical breeder. It is important to ask the breeder about any health problems the puppy you are interested in may have. A responsible breeder will be up-front about any health issues their puppies may have and they will also provide you with information about how to care for the puppy. How to Prepare Your Home for Your German Shepherd Puppy in Connecticut Before you bring your new puppy home, it is important to make sure that you have everything you need. There are some things in your home that will be off-limits for the first few weeks with your pup and there are also some supplies that will be helpful. Once your new pup has gone through his shots and is at least eight weeks old , he can become a part of the family. If you find the perfect breeder who provides references and helps ensure their puppies go to good homes, then there is no reason why they cannot stay in your home. However, before you get your pup, you will need to get your house ready. The following are some things that you should do: Put away all of your shoes and other small objects that the puppy could choke on Make sure that all electrical cords are out of the way or covered up Create a safe space for the pup to sleep and play, like a fenced-in yard or a room with baby gates Have plenty of food, water, and toys available for the puppy If you have other pets in your home, make sure they are introduced slowly and carefully When bringing home your new German Shepherd Puppy there is one cardinal rule: You are the alpha dog. This means that you need to be in control and set rules for your pup. If you do not establish yourself as the pack leader, he will become dominant. This can be a difficult process, but it is much easier if you start as soon as possible. There are a few things that you can do to help with the potty training process: Take your pup outside often, especially after meals and naps Make sure that you have a designated spot in your yard or close to your house where your pup can go to the bathroom Reward your pup when he goes potty in the right spot Do not punish your pup for going potty inside, this will only confuse him and make the process longer German Shepherds are intelligent dogs and they will usually learn how to potty train quickly. However, some puppies may take a little longer than others. Just be patient and consistent with your training and you will have a well-behaved pup in no time. Now that you have some idea of what to expect when bringing home a German Shepherd Puppy in Connecticut, you can make the best decision for your family. Remember to do your research and ask lots of questions to ensure that you are getting a healthy, well-bred puppy from a reputable breeder. And most importantly, be prepared to commit to taking care of your new furry family member for the next years. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. Used as police dogs and family dogs alike, this popular mix is renowned for their courage, loyalty, and intelligence. If you want to find the right pure bred puppy for your family, look no further than the shepherd puppies at CT Breeder. Though they love to play, they were bred to be working dogs and thus thrive off of having a job to do. Throughout history, the German Shepherd has been used in the Military, on police forces, as guide dogs for the blind, and even for herding livestock. Though he may embody some of the best canine characteristics, he is not for everyone. He needs a family that is willing to put up with his high-energy and need for constant activity. You will find that your new puppy will need a lot of exercise in order to stave off the boredom this breed commonly experiences, and therefore nix excessive barking and chewing before it becomes a habit. Additionally, this breed is not one for being left alone. When left by himself for long periods of time, he may become bored and frustrated, and act out in ways that may try your patience, such as chewing up your shoes or barking incessantly. Though a great watchdog, the breed is oftentimes suspicious of those outside of his family. He requires extensive training and early socialization in order to become the socialable, well-rounded dog that you envisioned. Caring for Your Adopted Shepherd Puppy German Shepherds were bred to herd livestock all day, so naturally they have a lot of energy. Built for constant action, your puppy will need to be walked several times a day; if you have an area to do so, it is best to let her run around, unleashed. Taking her to the dog park or a dog beach would be ideal, as they get both socialization and exercise in one helping. Exercising your puppy properly will ensure that he or she does not chew, dig, or bark, activities that tend to turn off most dog owners. German Shepherd dogs like to chew. However, if they pick the wrong thing to chew on, they can damage their teeth, consume something that makes them sick, or even choke. Though the German Shepherd is generally a healthy dog, they are prone to certain health conditions, including hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, gastric dilatation-volvulus bloating, which can be life threatening , degenerative myelopathy, and allergies. To ensure the best health for your puppy, feed them the recommended amount of food a day, make sure they are getting all of the recommended nutrients, and exercise them properly. It is never okay to feed your dog one large bowl a day; rather, it is recommended to feed your shepherd four cups a day, divided into two meals. Shepherds tend to grow quickly during their first year, making them prone to bone disorders. A well-balanced diet will help them grow at a steady pace. Until then, do not allow him to run, jump, or play on hard surfaces. Training Your German Shepherd In order to ensure the most harmonious life with your German Shepherd, consistent training is key. Always reward positive behaviors, and take measures to extinguish negative ones before they become a habit. Some things to consider include: Consistently reward positive behaviors with praise. Keep your dog mentally and physically stimulated, but keep it fun. Be consistent in your expectations. Make sure he is well socialized. Give your pup plenty of love and care. Do not yell at your dog. Do not lock your dog up or put her outside because you have not trained her how to properly behave. Do not isolate your dog. Do not reward bad behaviors. Do not neglect, shame, or blame your dog. Do not give up on her. Properly training your shepherd will ensure a peaceful and fulfilling life with her new family. australian bulldog puppy - Lifespan Sociability The essential thing to understand about the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is that they are not ideal pets for families with small children or novice dog owners. They are intelligent dogs that need attention. However, they need daily walks to stay fit. Establishing a trusting and loving relationship as a puppy is the best way to enjoy this working-class pooch. Life on the homestead was harsh. Stockmen needed a canine to match the tough conditions and demands of the work. They selectively bred the Southeastern Mountainous stock dog to get the right stuff for the job. The breed has grown in popularity worldwide, with pups in homes across the globe. However, all have their roots in the American South. Part of the trouble the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog was a lack of a standard and the support of enthusiasts interested in the breed. The same is true of the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog. His job as a guard dog and protector gives him an independent streak that is tempered with self-assurance. He is alert, which was necessary to chase away the stray fox or coyote stalking a herd. The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is a loyal and affectionate companion that will do well in the right home. While he is adaptable, he also needs a solid foundation and consistent training. Early socialization is crucial to ensure proper canine manners. Are These Dogs Good for Families? However, he is large and can easily overwhelm smaller children. His territorial nature also means that kids in the family must respect his space. On the positive side, this pup is a devoted protector of family and home. The breed is naturally wary of strangers, requiring early exposure to other people in his life. His strong prey drive and tendency to nip make this pup a challenge to own in a home with other dogs or cats. Our advice is that he should be the only pet in the household so that he can get all the attention. There are also issues with having a larger pet that exists across the board. The responsible, would-be dog owner will research these things before bringing a new puppy into their home. A post shared by Bruno bully. Ironically, they mature more slowly than smaller breeds, despite their size. This pup is a muscular, heavy-boned canine, with the appetite to match. Other soft treats are an excellent training aid and a way to establish trust with your dog. That is the key to a successful owner-pet relationship. However, daily walks will keep him healthy, mentally and physically. Like other working pups, he thrives when he has a job or something to occupy him. He is not a pet to leave alone in the backyard for long stretches. He needs companionship as much as distractions. He is smart, sometimes too much for his own good. You must take charge and direct the course of training early in his development. To be clear, we also give the same advice to anyone owning a larger dog. The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is relatively easy to train. He is intelligent to pick up new commands and routines quickly. The challenges you may face are his independence and stubborn streaks. We suggest using positive reinforcement instead of stern reprimands. A weekly session with a hound glove or curry brush will keep it healthy and stimulate circulation. After all, the earlier you catch it, the easier it is to manage. We recommend only buying from breeders who test their puppies. Minor Conditions. Vivian Lane, took over her business affairs. Later, Mrs. Vivian Lane sold her daughter's kennel. I got my 7 weeks old bulldog puppy and she's absolutely precious and adorable. I make sure that I leave enough water for her during the day and I only feed her twice a day. So far, she has 5 different toys to chew on. Well, during the first couple of days after she got her new toys, it was heaven for me because she left shoes, furniture, and other stuff alone. But she grew bored of these expensive toys rather quickly. I am thinking about buying one of those eight panel bronze wire pens for her so she can only gain access of certain area of the living room. Is this a good idea? During weekend, I spend a lot of time with her and I make sure she gets at least 1 hour of outdoor exercise a day. But still, nothing is able to correct her chewing problem. What are my options? My other question is that I would like to give my dog some snack in between two meals only during the weekend while I train her. The brand of the dog food I am using is Royal Canine recommended for bulldogs only I am wondering if there are some specific brands I need to purchase for her as snack. I heard from other dog owners that fresh carrots will be good snack choice for dogs. Is it safe for a 7 weeks old little pup like her? Great puppy!!!! Love her pics. Anyway, why did you decide on this breed? I want one too! Feeding her at am and pm may be too far between. Most dogs I know of and cats eat dinner - pm. As the more experienced posters commented, it a phase. Another phase will be when she becomes a teenager. Wait and see. If you raised kids, it may be more familiar. I give a variety to my dogs: carrots, green beans, blueberries, apple, banana. .I always have boiled chicken on hand in the fridge for a special treat for them. .I will give them commercial dog treats if the ingredients are healthy. .I stuff kongs and hollow sterilized bones with peanut butter or pumpkin and freeze that for a treat, they love when I put chicken broth in ice cube trays and give them frozen broth cubes. .I also give them bully sticks now because of the recommendations on this forum for a long lasting chew that's safe for their teeth! Great post! What dogs do you have?

Miniaturization in dog breeding is achieved in one of three ways. A standard German Shepherd can be crossed with a smaller dog breed. They can possess the gene for dwarfism. The final way to miniaturize is to breed two exceptionally small purebred German Shepherds together. Miniature German Shepherd Mix Breeding a female German Shepherd with the male of a smaller breed produces a mixed breed dog. This is the most humane way to miniaturize. They could be smaller but not look or behave anything like a German Shepherd. The upside to crossbreeding is that it can reduce the incidence of passing along genetic health problems. Here are some breeds that breeders commonly mix with the German Shepherd. They measure just 10 to 12 inches and weigh from 25 to 30 pounds. Despite the size difference, these are both herding breeds who are smart and trainable. You can expect this mix to stand from 12 to 15 inches and weigh anywhere from 25 to 65 pounds. The Corman Shepherd will be an athletic dog who needs plenty of activity. This is a highly intelligent, loyal, and loving mix. In appearance, these two breeds are very dissimilar, so looks can vary depending on which parent the puppies take after. The standard Poodle is over 15 inches and weighs from 40 to 70 pounds. You can expect the Shepadoodle to range from 15 to 26 inches tall and weigh between 40 and 90 pounds. This is sure to be a whip smart and extremely energetic dog. He will need plenty of physical activity and mental stimulation. The Shollie will be highly trainable. But a tendency to be protective might not make them the best choice for homes with small children. The Border Collie stands from 18 to 22 inches and weighs from 30 to 55 pounds. Physical characteristics of this condition include short bowed legs, longer body and issues with coat development. This would truly be a miniature German Shepherd in terms of temperament and behavior. However, pituitary dwarfism can have some pretty serious health effects. To a breeder, it means puppies whose weight at birth is abnormally low. To clarify, defined this way, you could have an entire litter of runts. Unfortunately, puppies who are born extremely underweight are likely to face many health problems throughout their lives. And the more underweight they are, the more they are at risk. Some breeders choose this method because the other characteristics of the breed will get passed down to the puppies. However, when two dogs who are way below the standard size are bred together, it increases the chance of passing along health problems as well. The standard female German Shepherd is somewhat smaller, standing from 22 to 24 inches and weighing between 50 and 70 pounds. To be a mini German Shepherd you need to be less than 22 inches tall and fewer than 50 lbs. But Miniature German Shepherds can be considerably smaller than this, depending upon how they are bred. Miniature German Shepherd size will depend on a number of factors. So crossing with a Collie would make a larger dog than one mixed with a Yorkie. A miniature German Shepherd full grown with the gene for dwarfism would have very short legs and weigh approximately 30 pounds. Breeding two very underweight purebred GSDs could potentially make an even smaller dog, but at what cost? Life Span Did You Know? A Miniature German Shepherd is a cross between a German Shepherd and a smaller dog breed that is meant to result in a smaller version of a German Shepherd. Although these Mini Shepherds can inherit any combination of traits from their parent breeds, they tend to be energetic, intelligent dogs that bond closely with their families and are affectionate with them. Miniature German Shepherds make great family dogs. They may be hardworking while on a job, but they have a playful spirit while relaxing with their family. They also tend to get along well with children and other dogs in the family. Although they tend to do well with smaller pets they have been raised with, they do have a high prey drive. Mini German Shepherds are also protective and alert. They will bark to alert you and will be naturally suspicious of strangers. Proper socialization and training early on can help make sure barking does not become a nuisance and will help them open up to strangers once introduced. Miniature German Shepherds are highly adaptable dogs. They tend to be a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. But, they can adapt just as well to apartments as long as they get the exercise, mental stimulation, and attention they need. They do well in most climates, but are sensitive to heat. Because they bond so closely with their families and want to be near them, they do not do well with long periods of alone time. Mixed-breed dogs can sometimes be healthier than purebred dogs because of genetic diversity. However, this is not a guarantee. They could inherit no conditions common to the parent breeds, but they could also inherit some or all of them. So, make sure you are asking them about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. For the Miniature German Shepherd, potential health conditions to be aware of include progressive retinal atrophy, hypothyroidism, epilepsy, and hip dysplasia. Because of their body shape, they are also at risk for bloat. Although Miniature German Shepherds are highly intelligent dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please, they can be difficult for first-time dog owners to handle on their own. Their high energy, working dog instincts, thirst for learning, and need for structured training can be overwhelming for first-time dog owners. Because of this, puppy training classes are recommended if you are not an experienced dog owner. They help reinforce training, strengthen the bond you have with your dog, and also offer opportunities to socialize a puppy. In general, a Miniature German Shepherd will have a coat that sheds moderately year-round and heavier seasonally. Brushing a few times a week, daily brushing during seasonal shedding, and the occasional bath is usually sufficient for this coat type. If a Miniature German Shepherd has a Mini Poodle parent, there is a chance they could inherit the low-shedding Poodle coat. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Although good dental care for dogs is essential, it is often overlooked. This is one of the reasons why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in older dogs. You can help protect your pup from painful dental diseases later in life by brushing their teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day and keeping up with regular vet visits. Although a Miniature German Shepherd may be smaller than a German Shepherd, they are still a high-energy dog with working dog instincts. In addition to having a job to do, these dogs also need daily walks plus playtime and time to run to be happy and healthy. If they like it, swimming can be a good low-impact activity while they are still growing. Once puppies finish growing , you can try higher-impact activities like hiking, running, training for dog sports, and more to see what they like. A fully-grown Miniature German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs about 50 pounds. There can be some variation depending on the other parent breed in the cross, but meeting the mother dog in-person can give you a better idea of what size to expect in a Mini GSD. A Miniature German Shepherd generally lives for years. If the other parent crossed with a German Shepherd is a Standard Poodle, the result is a Shepadoodle.
