We are an all-volunteer group of German Shepherd lovers dedicated to rescuing German Shepherd Dogs from at-risk and unacceptable situations and finding them permanent, loving homes with qualified owners. We also work cooperatively with animal shelters, professional trainers, and other rescue groups toward our common goals of saving dogs' lives. Except for a portion of Nevada around Lake Tahoe, we don't adopt dogs out of state and rarely adopt out of our area. Adoption events are held in Riverbank Modesto , Sacramento and Roseville every month, rain or shine, from 11am - 2pm. The schedule is: Riverbank - 2nd Saturday of the month, Sacramento - 3rd Saturday of the month and Roseville - 4th Saturday of the month. Adoption Policy Our Philosophy The dogs are our clients and we do what is in the dog's best interests. We match the dog to a suitable home where the dog will be happy and fulfilled, and the dog must approve of the match as well. That means we don't adopt dogs over the internet, as gifts, or sight unseen. Home Visit We require a home visit by one of our own volunteers because we match the home to a specific dog, and we want to meet all members of the household and all other pets at that time, and make sure that environment will work for that dog. The home must be safe and suitable for our dog, and that means we won't adopt to a home with out-of-control children or out-of-control resident dogs. Outside Dogs We rarely place dogs in outside only homes. All of our dogs come out of shelters and into volunteer foster homes where they live in the house with the people. We haven't had much success re-homing them to an outside-only home after that. We believe that dogs are happier living and sleeping inside with their family pack, which has been borne out from many years of bringing dogs into rescue. The home must be safe and secure, and legally allowed to have a German Shepherd Dog, and be within the allowable number of dogs. We require landlord consent for renters. The entire household must be a good match for the dog, therefore we won't place a higher Level dog in a lower Level household. Adoption Day Events At an adoption day, if there are several parties interested in the same dog at an Adoption Day, we will make sure everyone who arrives on time has a chance to meet the dog and then our volunteers will help make the best match for that dog. Not everyone is the right match for every dog. We do what is in the dog's best interests. Puppies We have special requirements and an additional questionnaire for puppies, please be sure you meet the requirements before sending in an application. Since we see so many dogs that have come out of an unsuitable environment, we want to make sure our puppies have the very best start in life. That means we won't adopt a puppy into an Outside Only home or where the puppy will be alone the majority of the time, as we don't feel that's an optimum environment to raise a happy and well-socialized dog. Adoption Restrictions If there is a vacation or major change imminent, such as moving, having another adult move in, or having a baby, we won't place a dog in that home. Those events are extremely stressful and it wouldn't be fair to expect a new dog to adjust well to them. We Reserve the Right to refuse to adopt to anyone who we feel isn't a good match to a dog, in particular or in general, as not every household is suitable for a rescued German Shepherd Dog. We will not adopt to anyone who is hostile, belligerent, deceitful or disrespectful to our volunteers, our dogs, our organization, or otherwise refuses to follow our policies or accept our guidelines. Adopter Preferences Yes, we do have preferences for adopters and they would get first choice on any of our dogs above the general public, provided it is an appropriate home for the dog rating level, energy, children, other pets, etc. Yes, our volunteers pay the same adoption fee as everyone else. No, we don't give dogs away for free, not even to our volunteers. Our unapologetic order of preference is: 1. The Foster Home - they always have the first option of keeping their foster dog. This is known as a Foster Failure, and we have many repeat offenders. Active Volunteers - it's the only perk we get for all the hard work we do. Previous Successful Adopters - they have proven they know how to take care of a dog and we love repeat customers! These are the folks who have kept a dog safe and happy through sickness and health until the end of the dog's life. Highly Qualified Owners Level 3 or above personally known and recommended by one of our volunteers who will vouch for the home and handling ability. General Public. In between Adoption Days, those who get their Adoption Questionnaire in and are available for a Home Visit will be ahead of those who don't! Found as a stray, we do not know the details of her upbringing. What we can say is that she holds no grudges about the past or worries about tomorrow, as she has an amazing talent to adapt to life around her. From day one, this gal was ready to make friends with people and other canines at a large social event possibly she knew they were the guests of honor. Hustle and bustle of strangers do not seem to disturb her steady centered self. She readily accepted pets and adorations of her endearing floppy ear. The company of her co-foster see Amaretto helped her to make sense of the fun, but she did well on her own among a multitude of volunteers. Shika does very well when greeting other dogs and will try her best to maintain order and peace among her pack. Her demeanor with other canines is generally submissive with a touch of "wanna play? Her energy is mid-level and she will opt to come inside often to rest, especially during the summer heat. This girl enjoys daily walks and is learning to keep a forward motion with the help of her canine cohorts. Other dogs peak her interest on the walk, but she does not display any reaction other than forgetting to continue forward. When it comes to car rides, she hesitates when loading in a vehicle but will accept assistance without protest. Once she is in the car, she lays calmly through the entire ride. Slowly this is improving as she learns this is likely a ticket to a fun-filled adventure! Shika settles like an angel in the home, often choosing to lay close to her human on the floor. She does have a mischievous desire to 'rearrange' personal belongings, such as shoes, clothes, or linens that happen to be lonely. If she discovers a laundry basket unattended, she will gladly help move some items to plain view, like to the hallway or outdoor lawn. Most often, she will leave them there quietly for you to retrieveand fold. Shika is housebroken and is accustomed to using a dog door. She does well with the company of her co-fosters while her foster mom is at work. At night, she willingly enters her crate where she sleeps quietly through the night. This is a special gal who makes very little demands and offers solid devoted companionship without a fuss. Cats and small critters unknown. The Poodle Club of America is, of course, made up of humans that are pretty special, amazing and dedicated people. They write the standards for the breed, and the standard has to some extent changed the original look and purpose of the Standard Poodle. Our primary goal is to enrich the very small gene bank of the Standard Poodle pedigrees, which is and will continue to be the best weapon against genetic disorders. The preceding statements may raise some eyebrows and ruffle some feathers. It might even become a topic on Poodle Forum, but we stand firm in our belief and respect those who disagree. Again, because of our selective breeding, we can produce every color available in the breed of Standard Poodles. We have white standard poodles, cream standard poodles, apricot standard poodles, and red standard poodles. Late in Holley weaned herself from working full time with our Standard Poodles because she was offered a wonderful opportunity to go back to her first love of training and showing American Saddlebreds. My mom is very thankful to Mary Ann for giving Holley the chance to do what she loves best and is such a great mentor and friend to Holley. Each of our adult Standard Poodles get groomed every 8 to 10 weeks, so the grooming is a never-ending cycle. Placing our adults and special needs, rather it be a puppy or adult for adoption, is something we take very seriously, because we want them to go from us straight to their forever homes and not have to be uprooted again and again in their lifetime. In most cases these adults and special needs adjust very easily from the farm to your couch! We will be available to help you and your new companion to adjust so that you both have a long, loving relationship. All of our ADOPTEES are accustomed to a doggy door for pottying purposes, and a doggy door would help them to adjust to their new home, but is not a requirement. It may require a little time and energy to make sure they understand not to potty in your home. All of our adults are crate trained and our puppies are well on their way. The main purpose of the wire crate is to allow your ADOPTEE to feel part of the family and become familiar with the family and activities while still feeling secure. In addition, we recommend the type of plastic crate that is used for shipping on airlines for nighttime, with good padding in it. This crate is enclosed and gives the dog a warm, draft free, soft, secure den like place to sleep. The majority of our adults do well on a leash. Our routine protocol for retiring all of our adult sires and dams is to do so between the ages of six and seven years. A pre-op physical and blood work are done and they are spayed or neutered. The teeth are also cleaned at this time. If needed, a Rabies vaccine is also given at this time. The cost depends on the amount of dental work, the gender and other medical procedures performed. Occasionally, for various reasons, we will have a young healthy, well socialized adult years old to retire. These are usually young adults that have simply accomplished what we needed in our breeding program and can be retired early. On other occasions we may have a male that has no interest in breeding or a female that is just not happy being a mom. Occasionally there may be a health issue or defect that does not make them a good candidate for a breeding program, but would have little or no effect on them as a family pet. For example, you should not need a routine visit to the vet for a minimum of six months and in most cases, a year. They are already crate and leash trained for the most part. They are beyond the chewing puppy stage. They are more valuable as far as training time and medical expenses than a puppy. They also will have all age appropriate vaccines, be de-wormed and freshly groomed. For our younger adults with no health or temperament issues we require a deposit of half the adoption fee as a commitment fee. You will pay with a debit or credit card over the phone. There are several distinct patterns: the tuxedo, spotted, and abstract all refer to a poodle that is white and another color. That color can be black, brown, red, apricot, creme, silver, blue, grey, cafe-au-lait, or silver-beige. Parti poodles are usually more than half white with colored spots. They can range from almost a solid white with just a few spots of color to the more colorful tuxedos. Tuxedos look like a poodle dressed for a party. They have white on the legs and a white collar that may or may not go completely around the neck. Tuxedo-colored poodles also have white on the belly that should extend up to the chest. Some tuxedos have colored legs almost to the feet and others have white all the way up to their back. Abstract poodles have limited white markings and are almost a solid colored dog. The most common abstract poodle marking is a simple white mark on the chest. White splashes of color may also occur on the face, head, chest, and feet. Abstract poodles sometimes have a white chest and white feet that look like they have been dipped in paint. Ticking marks are the small spots found within the white parts of the dog. It is not until around 6 — 7 weeks when we can determine if it will be a Flat Coat goldendoodle — no facial furnishings. We have produced flat coats with both straight hair and with some curls.
