We've had dogs that love treats and praise, and the addition of the click did nothing. Don't be discouraged if your dog doesn't care about the click when you try to uncouple treats; it might just not be their thing. Every dog is different. These professionals deal with high-energy dogs and obedience training on a daily basis! A pro can make keeping Labs calm a walk in the dog park, if you will. It's crucial to avoid this impulse. Research shows that dogs actually respond quite poorly to punishment or negative reinforcement. This includes verbal abuse and fear-based techniques, and definitely physical harm. Never strike a dog. Follow it as quickly as you can with the treat. And yes, when you first start this training, your unexpected generosity may have the opposite effect. You may feel as though your peace has been shattered — for now. But you need to be persistent. Ignore any silliness, and simply wait for the next time he relaxes, then try again. Step 6 - Email Notification and photos We wait until the pups' eyes are open and the preliminary vet check is all clear. So if there were 3 chocolate males in the litter, then the earliest family to join would get a choice of 3; the next, a choice of 2. The third family on the list would have no choice. So, if there was a family on the list which expressed preference for "lively" and we had a puppy which matched this personality profile - we would prioritise this match on personality before a choice on cuteness. It can be tricky occasionally balancing everyones' wishes. Despite this, in over a decade of breeding and helping families' select the right puppy, it has always worked out thus far. It is a stress point in the process but try to relax - often we frequently hear the comment "They are all lovely, I could take any of them home and be happy". Step 9 - Collection Day You will be sent directions to our home and we'll have agreed a time for collection. Often we have a few families collect on the same day, especially on weekends when the pups turn 8 weeks or 10 weeks old.
