OH MY!!! GRRAND was contacted by a shelter that feared bringing Athena and her pups into their shelter, because they were going to have to euthanize them all upon intake due of lack of space!! Immediately Bulldogs became a massive fascination for me. The cartoons with bulldogs were by far my favorite. I would become a very excited kiddo each time a bulldog made a television appearance. This fascination grew into an obsession. Unfortunately, my first introduction to a real bulldog was a disappointment mixed with a strange sense of enthusiasm. My friend Mikey had a female English Bulldog at his house. She was tiny, chunky, super cute, and snorty. He showed me that when he nudged her chest with his shoe, she would grip it and snarl in rough play. Her bully mind was incredible, but her body was lacking. I really thought bulldogs were going to be how television portrayed them to children. There had to be something better. I was fifteen years old when I met Mr. Jack, an over-sized English Bulldog stud. I spent hours playing and wrestling around with him. He was a great bulldog, and he was reasonably similar to my giant cartoon bulldog dream. Unfortunately, he was not quite the icon of health or vigor I had hoped for, but I was completely hooked. I made a clear decision. I would become the greatest bulldog breeder in the world. My parents, however, put my dream as a bulldog breeder on hold. Over the next decade and a half, I spent countless hours and days researching genetics, anatomy, physiology, and biology. I was learning how to breed healthy versions of my beloved cartoon image bulldog. In my studies, I realized the English Bulldog is structurally limited in regards to health. I began looking at other bully breeds in an attempt to find a healthy bulldog that matched my vision. For many years my search came up lacking. The sales pitch that the Olde English Bulldogge was healthy and capable sold me. Traveling around the country, I visited breeders of this amazing new breed and I bought up puppy after puppy. Dog after dog failed health and temperament tests. It quickly became evident that the Olde English Bulldogge breed also suffers from several of the same health issues which plague the English Bulldog. Compelled by obsession, I started all over, In spite of my losses. The lessons were expensive, in addition to well-received. Nevertheless, I searched tirelessly for Olde Bulldogges that would put me within reach of my ultimate goal of a bigger, better bulldog. Taking some significant losses, I realized getting what I wanted would mean creating it myself. Still obsessed with my dream, I kept searching and searching. With a few tastes here and there of what could be, I eventually stumbled upon a few exceptional dogs. As dogs finally started passing health testing, I could move forward. This small handful of quality dogs would lay the foundation for a solid breeding program. I began linebreeding my productions to make great family companion bulldogs that excel at protection. It has a broad skull and pronounced cheek bones. The ears are set high. All ear types are allowed. The nose is black, brown or liver colored depending on the pigment. The oval eyes are dark. The muzzle is square, wide and deep with a strong appearance and adjusted flews. It has an undershot or scissors bite and is not faulted for broken teeth. The neck is muscular, slightly arched from the shoulder to the head, tapering and is free from loose skin at the throat. The chest is deep with closed ribs. The thighs are medium in size with well-developed muscles, joints with proper angulation about 30 degrees , and standing parallel. The joints are fairly steep but not overbuilt. The back is strong with a slightly sloping croup and a slight depression behind the withers. The tail is set low, reaching to the hocks, allowed in all forms, but a straight, intact tail without kinks is preferred. Kinked or deformed tails are docked, but the breed is not to be altered in any other way no ear cropping or dewclaw removal. The longhaired coat is thick and often appears as feathering around the ears, back of the legs and tail. All coat colors are allowed, but pure white dogs are excluded from breeding. Temperament The Mammut Bulldog is loyal, bold and fearless. It is confident and intelligent with a strong character. This breed has a moderate to high prey drive. It excels in many sports and makes a good working dog, from agility to protection training and beyond. It is a nice family dog making an excellent companion. This breed is good with children. It has a high pain tolerance. Owners need to take a determined, consistent, loving approach while remaining calm. If the dog senses you are weaker minded than he is , he will become stubborn, as he will believe it is his job to run the home. They make wonderful pets for the assertive owner who displays the right amount of leadership. Proper human to canine communication is essential. Unlike many other types of Bulldogs, the Mammut Bulldog can tolerate a wider range of colder and warmer temperatures. Exercise This breed needs to be taken on a daily walk. While out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as in a dog's mind the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. These dogs do best with active families and make great working dogs. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder. Origin The Mammut Bulldog is a recreation of the original longhaired working bulldog of the 's. Like their French counterparts, which tend to be much smaller and have more distinctive ears, English Bulldogs are one of the most well-liked dog breeds in the world. English Bulldogs typically stand 26 inches in height and weigh 55 to 75 pounds. They have broad chests, deep-set black or dark brown eyes, and a stocky physique that gives them an appearance of wisdom and charm. These dogs are gentle giants with thick fur coats and bubbly spirits. While they come in a range of colors and coat styles, a smooth coat of white with dark or light brown spots on their body is the most typical. English Bulldogs have small muzzles, powerful jaws, and ears that curl back against their heads. When joyful or enthusiastic, their lengthy tails wag rhythmically. English Bulldog English Bulldogs are self-assured canines that like to play catch, romp around beaches, and relax on sunny days. They are often shorter, with wide bodies and longer fur. They also possess a squished face, but it is not wrinkly like that of the Pug. Expect your mix to have a sturdy body with long legs, and the smushed face of a Shih Tzu. Their tail can be either curly or straight, but tends to curve over their backs. Coat and Colors The Pug Shih Tzu mix comes in a range of different colors, including black, white, fawn, brindle and brown. Shih Tzus are known for being confident and hard headed, whilst Pugs are known for their easy going, good natured temperament. As a result the Pug Shih Tzu mix is known for having a well balanced temperament and gets along well with everyone and everything. They little dogs just love to play especially with you , so make sure that you set aside time each day to play games with them. Also make sure to provide plenty of toys for them — tugs, squeaky toys and balls tend to be some of their favorites. A quick walk around the block with some play time in the backyard or even inside is enough for this dog. More than anything the Pug Shih Tzu mix is a couch potato and just wants to cuddle with you on the couch. They love to be with their owners so much they suffer from separation anxiety. So if you are going to be away for long hours, having someone stop by to take them for a walk can help to curb the anxiety. One of the downsides is this breed can be very headstrong which can make training difficult more on this later. The good news though is they are not big barkers. They will bark to alert to someone at the door or something out of place, but other than that they tend to be very quiet. This makes them a great option for apartment living. The Pug Shih Tzu mix makes an amazing family dog. They love to play with children and get very excited, just make sure they play gently! They do not require a lot of physical or mental stimulation and do well in most homes. This breed is also excellent for first time dog owners, or even families with children. The biggest care commitment with this dog is their grooming and maintenance. Exercise Requirements A short walk around the block with a few minutes of play at home is plenty for this breed. In general the Pug Shih Tzu mix is a fairly lazy breed, so you do not have to put a lot of running or walking time into them. If you are looking for a hiking companion, this is not the dog for you. This breed should always be walked on leash or in a fenced-in area. These dogs have a tendency to wander and are not very good with recalls, so keeping them on a leash is best for their safety.
