He is sweet, silly, snuggly, and ridiculously cute. He is just about everything that is good in a dog. Petey loves to entertain himself and others with his playful attitude and his puppy-like antics. He loves to start each day with a happy morning wiggle dance, and he will perform encores throughout the day. Petey is an affectionate fellow. He only gives occasional kisses, but loves to get close to you; nuzzle you; lean; poke at you with his front feet as boxers do; and when he is feeling silly which is often! He is accustomed to sleeping in bed with a person and snuggling all night. Truthfully, he can get away without it inside the home because he is an easy, good boy to live with! However, he is overly excited out in the world, on walks, in the car, and seeing new people and animals, so he would benefit from some guidance to help him behave calmly in those situations. At this point, meeting people is extremely exciting, but meeting dogs is just too overwhelming for him to handle. Petey had a dramatic entrance into rescue, as he was pulled from the shelter while he was suffering from bloat a medical emergency fatal within hours. Pulling a dog in critical condition, when we know the cost will be tremendous and a good outcome far from guaranteed, requires a leap of faith. The shelter vet bought Petey time by puncturing his stomach to decompress the gas that was building up. Within an hour of first being contacted by the shelter, a flurry of communication had occurred, an NCBR volunteer darted to the shelter, delivered Petey to an emergency vet, and Petey was being prepped for surgery. But we are overjoyed to say that Petey made it through surgery and is now recovering in the hospital. If not, here is the form! This is a very fast, sudden, severe allergic response that causes breathing difficulties, collapse and possible death. This is very rare. Urticaria the moderate and most common reaction, if one is to occur happens soon after vaccination, often even before the puppy is brought home. It can happen in the car while you are driving back to your house. Your veterinarian will recommend immediate return to the hospital for treatment. Urticaria is usually treated successfully with injectable corticosteroids like dexamethasone or prednisone. Antihistamines do little to help with acute allergic reactions but may be given by injection to help prevent recurrence of symptoms after steroids wear off. Mild vaccination reactions usually require no treatment. However, if the symptoms persist for more than 24 hours, call your veterinarian. They are low barkers and train incredibly fast and her puppies have gone on to make fabulous Therapy dogs as well. Authentic Australian Labradoodles were developed in the s and s in Australia because of the need for a hypoallergenic service dog. People fell in love with the new breed and soon there was an overwhelming demand for the Authentic Australian Labradoodle. The evident need for breeders to develop a standard for this fascinating dog gave rise to the establishment of two breeding and research centers for Authentic Australian Labradoodles in Australia. Both carefully controlled breeding programs, using only the finest genetically healthy dogs and breeding for specific traits of temperament, soundness, and coat. When these were crossed with the standard Authentic Australian Labradoodle, the medium Authentic Australian Labradoodle resulted. Thus three sizes are currently distinguished: the miniature Authentic Australian Labradoodle is inches tall, the medium Authentic Australian Labradoodle is inches, and the standard Authentic Australian Labradoodle is inches. The breeding centers selectively bred away from the shedding coat. The Multi-Generation Authentic Australian Labradoodle is a unique and fantastic dog that has become world-renowned for its qualities. The Multi-Generation Authentic Australian Labradoodle is a dog that has had over 22 years in its development. The Authentic Australian Labradoodle foundation stock includes 6 different parent breeds that have resulted in the Authentic Australian Labradoodle as seen today. These Authentic Australian Labradoodles are available from only a few select breeders. Rather it was an investment of many years of several infusions carefully selected to achieve the characteristics of the dog that are so sought after today. Beverley Manners, Founder of Rutland Manor Breeding Facility, herself has provided an informative insight into the early days of the Australian labradoodle and its development, all of which led to the creation of the Australian Cobberdog, a pure breed in development. Following is a brief synopsis of developments that took place and the reasons certain infusions were done, to create the breed that is so loved today. In the beginning, the original crossing of a Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle carried out by the Guide Dog Center in Melbourne Australia produced inconsistent litter, with one puppy that was allergy friendly with a shedding flat coat. To continue breeding Lab to Poodle, or to breed with offspring derived from two breeds would soon result in a restricted gene pool and unavoidable health problems, so the idea to infuse another pure breed into the breeding program came to light as a way to both solve some of these health issues as well as expand the lines and thus the gene pool. The first infusion was a non shedding Irish Water Spaniel, a very carefully selected. Subsequently, a female of a different bloodline was added into the lines for additional line diversity. This led to all sorts of problems; labradoodles that have massive shedding issues; inconsistency in temperaments and conformation, and the worst, health issues. Breeding for soundness form to function , temperament and coat were important goals, not to be taken lightly. Each infusion was carefully selected to contribute to the soundness of the breed and produce the characteristics they are known for today, which is why the lineage is so important. Any claims that Rutland Manor infused other breeds, including cross breeds such as the Cockapoo are without foundation and completely untrue. Today, the Australian Cobberdog is the culmination of many, many years of careful breeding and development of a dog that is so cherished around the world, yet so imitated.
