They need love, attention and an opportunity to learn too. Are you familiar with the breed? If not, you may want to look into fostering with us before making a decision to adopt. Perhaps the owner purchased the dog on impulse, not understanding the needs of a boxer. Sometimes, financial situations change, and families are not able to care for the dog anymore. We also take dogs that have been brought to shelters around New England. If a shelter reaches out for help, we do our best to find placement for the boxer in need. Lastly, we have a wonderful relationship with boxer rescue in Puerto Rico, and we work closely with them to bring boxers in need, from the island, to New England. All of our boxers are temperament tested and evaluated before coming into rescue. It should be noted that ALL dogs require a decompression period when going to a new home. Can I adopt a female dog if I already have a female dog? The short answer is no. Our experience in placing dogs, has shown us that placing two females together is oftentimes not the best long term situation. We receive many calls from owners needing to surrender their female boxers because there is fighting with another female dog in the house. Either way, the fighting is often brutal and bloody. We have adopted a policy to never place two female dogs in the same house. Are your boxers healthy? They are brought up to date on vaccines, tested for heartworm, and spayed or neutered unless too young or not medically able to be. Their vet records are provided upon adoption. Do I need to have a fenced in yard to adopt a boxer? We do not require a fenced in yard for all of our boxers. We look at each dog, individually, and based on the needs of that dog, we may require fencing. Please note that we do not consider an electric fence to be a proper method of containment and are not able place a dog in a home that uses electric fencing. Do you have a shelter where I can come meet the boxers? We are not a shelter and do not have a physical location where you can meet our adoptees. Social Oh My So sorry this has been a crazy month. I don't think Karel and I realized what a time constraint having 2 litters of puppies and a son in high school finishing his exams. First omg we have a boy in highschool. How did that happen? They have opened their eyes and ears and one litter has even started eating a little. They are so cute, if we do say so ourselves. As Good As Gold has been breeding since .But have been involved in Dog training and animal behaviour for 30 years. They have enjoyed getting to know each of the families that have been chosen by our puppies and their families. As Good As Gold Dogs live in a country setting, training constantly and living life to their fullest. Happy, Healthy Bloodline Our dogs come from various bloodlines to make sure that their history does not cross. We have some from the Southern States to breed our very best American Reds. Some of our lines are European to introduce our English Creams. We feed our puppies top of the line large breed food to set them up for life. When puppies go to their homes we ensure they are healthy and happy with first vaccinations, 6 doses of deworming, vet checks with Sherbrooke Animal Hospital, 6 weeks of pet Insurance, puppy classes and breeder support. Now, there is the cost of purchasing, shipping and raising the potential parents. Then once old enough usually about 2 years of age, we have to do testing. Hips, elbows, heart, eyes and genetics.Yes I am a trainer but.Because believe it or not that confidence level and trainability is passed from parent to puppy. Then the breeding.Thats a discussion over wine.Now we wait 62 days.I will not put a dog through multiple surgeries. Now we have potentially 8 to 10 puppies maybe less. There are 24 hour care with these little muffins. Moms get tired too. Theres lots of food, toys, special temperament testing.You name it for 8 weeks. Theres many other administrative things that come with puppies that cost unfortunately. Lists, websites, social media and ckc registration, microchips, vaccines, deworming, fencing. I could list forever. But when you are deciding your budget that works for your family on a puppy. Remember that sometimes when you go to the breeder that takes the time to spend the money on your puppy you won't have to spend it later on in its life. Make sure you also put together a budget that includes an emergency. Insurance can also help with that. Trust me when I tell you breeders who are dedicated to the breed and your puppy are not pricing their puppies to make it out of reach They are priced to better the breed and have the very best puppies for the families that are right for them. We all look forward to taking our puppy for a walk, however it is important not to over-exercise your puppy. In natural play, puppies will romp until they are tired and then stop to lay down for rest. When walking a puppy on a leash, they cannot stop when they normally would for rest. Too much exercise or walking can severely damage their bone and joint structures irreversibly. This should be taken seriously. THE RULE is: No more than 5 minutes of exercise for every month of age So that means, at 2 months old 8 weeks , your puppy only needs to exercise or walk for 10 minutes per day. Spiral fractures of the tibia lower leg bone are very common in puppies. A spiral fracture is where the bottom half of the bone twists in the opposite direction of the top half.
