Betsy has been spayed and is on monthly preventative for her heartworms. She loves all people - including kids big and small. She would probably do best with a buddy dog who can be her ears and help guide her when she needs it. Betsy is housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door. A fenced yard is a must for this little girl. She does exhibit some separation anxiety, so will need someone who can be patient with her and be there for her as she adjusts to her new home and routine. She is also going to need a home that can supply her with a large assortment of squeaky and scrunchy toys, because she just loves them and carries them everywhere. Betsy is also a great giver of hugs and kisses and has a huge heart. She really wants nothing more than to be loved, to be cared for, and to share her love in return. Heartworm Information: Betsy Ross is Heartworm positive. Adopters should discuss heartworm protocols with their veterinarian to determine treatment. What We Do Is the Boxer breed right for your family? Information about the Boxer to help you decide if this is the best breed for your family. The Boxer breed is so easy to fall in love with.My love for the breed started roughly 24 years ago when I saw the most beautiful boxer, a flashy fawn. From that moment I began to research the breed and find out all of the information that I could. Number one on my list was "are they good with children".I stopped and greeted every boxer I ran across, asked a million questions, spent countless hours reading books and online, enjoyed playing with numerous boxers, and visited a breeder.I knew I had a few years before we would be ready for a new addition but I wanted to make sure we were prepared and making the right decision for our family. The lack of reputable boxer breeders to mentor under was alarming. Showing, working, and training was always my dream as a child. Raising young children and showing dogs aren't the easiest combination so I continued to focus on more research within the breed. We have been actively showing in conformation now for nearly 8 years and have loved every minute. We strive to raise happy healthy AKC registered Boxers with great structure, conformation, wonderful temperments, nice heads, tight coats and early socialization. Our Boxers are raised in our home under our feet not in a kennel or basement away from the family, we breed for a purpose to improve our lines and not just because! Both sire and dam must compliment one another in conformation for us to consider a breeding. Generally a breeding is done in hopes to produce our next show prospect. Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article.

Updated On: September 23, Golden retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. They are fun, loving, and smart. Overall, this is a relatively healthy breed. Yet, there are some diseases that are prevalent in Golden Retrievers. They were bred for hunting and retrieving waterfowl. In many ways, the Golden Retriever resembles the Labrador Retriever, which is another sporting and waterfowl breed. They are actually very similarly sized breeds and live approximately years. Golden Retrievers do have some differences with Labs. The most obvious difference is in their appearance. Golden Retrievers have a characteristically golden coat. Labs come in brown, black, or yellow colors. Golden Retrievers can also have either long or short costs. Golden Retrievers tend to be quieter than labs. Also, Golden Retrievers have a few more health issues. Because they were bred as a sporting and hunting dog, Golden Retrievers need a lot of exercise. Without the stimulation they need, they can become destructive. If you want a couch potato dog, then the Golden Retriever may not be for you. However, if you enjoy swimming, playing catch, walking and running, and many other outside activities, you and your Golden Retriever will get along just fine. Golden Retrievers are fairly healthy on average, but there are a few common health concerns: Hip and Elbow Dysplasia As with many large breeds, elbow and hip dysplasia are both common in Golden Retrievers. It is a genetic condition that causes the femoral head to partially dislocate. Hip and Elbow Dysplasia can cause stiff and painful joints. You will notice your dog struggling to stand or having an unusual gait with this condition. Most responsible breeders will ensure that they do not breed dogs with Hip or Elbow Dysplasia. If your dog has the disease, your veterinarian can help you create a treatment plan. Treatment will depend on the severity of the symptoms. It may range from pain medication and therapy to surgery. Cancer Unfortunately, cancer is very common among Golden Retrievers. That is a huge occurrence of the disease in this breed. As with humans, cancer is spread genetically. There are actually far more cases of cancer in Golden Retrievers than there were in the s. That is good news because it may point to a new genetic mutation in the breed. Researchers are looking for a reason for the recent rise in Golden Retriever cancer rates. The good news is, cancer in Golden Retrievers may be treatable depending on the type. Epilepsy Epilepsy is a neurological condition common in dogs and Golden Retrievers are no different. They are prone to this disease. You can suspect that your Golden Retriever has epilepsy if they have involuntary seizures or lose consciousness often. If you notice these symptoms, take your Golden Retriever to your vet immediately. Epilepsy can be treated through the use of medication. The two most common are phenobarbital and potassium bromide. Research is ongoing into more modern anticonvulsants. Allergies More than many other breeds, Golden Retrievers are prone to allergies. Their allergies can cause skin problems like lick granulomas or hot spots. Wheat allergies are common with this breed, as are environmental allergies. Most allergies can be controlled. Otherwise, you can help them by treating the symptoms of their allergies. Take them to the vet if they excessively lick or scratch at an area. Also, removing the allergen as much as possible can help control symptoms. Golden Retriever Mobility Loss Joint conditions like hip dysplasia are the tip of mobility problems impacting Golden Retrievers. Golden Retrievers are active dogs, making them prone to injuries like ACL tears. It is devastating when a previously active dog can no longer walk. A dog wheelchair can help your senior Golden Retriever to walk again. If your Golden Retriever struggles to move, a dog wheelchair might be precisely what they need! Buddy the Golden Retriever and His Wheelchair Two days ago Buddy lost use of his hips from displacement and arthritis. Early this morning I felt there was no other option but to put our family member Buddy down. He had not gone to the bathroom for almost 2 days. But then, I found your optional rear end harness! It is absolutely perfect for the manual transport to and from house, car, etc. I found you on the Internet this morning, drove to your office. Now my family and I have more time with our beloved Buddy. Thank you! However, the increase in cancer rates in the breed is worrying. Regular vet checkups and constant love and handling can help you catch any health problems before they get out of control. Make sure you are aware of the health issues before deciding on a Golden Retriever. That knowledge ensures you help your beloved Golden live a long and healthy life. Related Articles:. With wonderful temperaments, playful spirits, and beautiful golden fur, they are among the most popular dogs to have as pets. They are frequently used as service dogs, rescue dogs, and bird dogs because of how well they respond to training and their friendly natures. They are great pets for families with children as well. However, Golden Retrievers can be susceptible to degenerative myelopathy DM as they age. Whether your Golden has already been diagnosed with Golden Retriever DM or you simply want to be proactive in their healthcare, understanding this disease and its treatment is essential. Because DM in Golden Retrievers affects the myelin sheath of the spinal cord, the only way to see the damage is during an autopsy. There are, however, several symptoms that can point to this disease, including swaying while standing, difficulty standing, and trouble getting up when lying down. This is when a Golden walks on the top of its paws, rather than the pads, particularly when turning. Similarly, the dog might have trouble using its back legs or keeping its hind end up as the disease progresses. Eventually, most dogs with Golden Retriever DM will end up paralyzed due to nerve damage. Although it is not possible to conclusively diagnose Golden Retriever DM, you can do a genetic test to determine whether your dog cannot get the disease, carries the disease, or might have the disease. DM is caused by a mutation of the SoD-1 gene, and for your dog to get DM, it must have two mutated copies of the gene. The genetic test is simple, and it can help you to plan ahead for your Golden or provide clarity if you are not sure whether you are seeing the early symptoms of DM or osteoarthritis in your dog. While there is no cure for DM in Golden Retrievers, there are a number of ways you can support your Golden Retriever as they live with this disease. Making sure that your Golden is able to maintain their mobility is a key aspect of helping them live a full life. Physical therapy is essential for this goal as it can slow the degeneration of muscle mass and help your dog keep their weight in check. Many dogs end up using wheelchairs as their back legs lose function. Vitamins, B, C, and E can be particularly helpful, and it is worth considering dietary supplements to make sure they get these vitamins in sufficient quantities. A sad reality of DM in Golden Retrievers is that you will most likely have to make the decision about when to euthanize your dog. As the condition progresses, they will lose control of their bladder or bowels, and in many cases, they will become almost completely paralyzed. Part of their treatment plan is understanding when your dog needs to be put down, but effective palliative care can extend their liveable years and reduce their suffering. Omega-3 Oils as a DM treatment for Golden Retrievers Omega-3 oils are essential nutrients for dogs of all ages and health situations, but they can be particularly valuable for dogs with Golden Retriever DM. They are rich in vitamins like A, D, and E, as well as essential fatty acids. These vitamins and fatty acids can promote brain, joint, and coat health, and they act as natural anti-inflammatories. It is important to note that not all Omega-3 oil supplements are created equal. In some oils, heavy metals, like lead, arsenic, mercury, or cadmium, are present. These metals are dangerous for dogs, and if your dog has Golden Retriever DM, they can be particularly harmful given their weakened neurological system. Toxins and dioxins can be present in lesser oils as well. They are made through molecular distillation. These human-quality oils are cold processed and thoroughly tested. In fact, our oils are tested to a higher standard than is required by both national and international bodies. These oils are in liquid form, so you do not have to struggle to convince your dog to take pills. Simply combine the oil with their normal meals. We understand how important your Golden Retriever is and how hard it is to watch them suffer from Golden Retriever DM. We want to help you take the best care of your lovable pet as possible, and Omega-3 oils can do just that. Combined with exercise, diet, and other interventions, these supplements can help your dog make the most of their time and remain connected to you and your family. Make sure to check with your vet to talk about how these supplements might interact with other medications and for dosage guidelines.

Image source, Michael Jones Image caption, The train driver saw Poppy hiding in a hedge at the side of the railway track By Amy Phipps BBC News A freight train driver, who rescued a lost dog he spotted near the railway line, has reunited the animal with her owners. Poppy the pug ran away when she was frightened by a speeding car in Rutland on Tuesday night. Owners Dawn and Ian Bain said they spent all night searching for her. The following morning, train driver Michael Jones saw Poppy hiding in a hedge beside the track and was able to get out and collect her. He was slowly moving into a passing loop when a flash of red from her harness caught his eye. He said he stopped the train and "without thinking I jumped out the cab and rushed back as quick as I could to see if I could find this little dog and there she was just looking so very sad and lonely. He fed her crumpets and offered her water while efforts were made to contact her owners. At about the same time Mrs Bain, 60, went to the level crossing in Oakham to ask the person in the signal box to look out for Poppy. She was told a dog had just been found and after making a phone call the signaller broke the good news. Mrs Bain was told to make her way to Oakham station, where Mr Jones had been granted special permission to stop to return the dog to her. She waited on the platform - still in her nightdress from the night before - when Mr Jones arrived. Mr Jones said: "I genuinely believe if I hadn't had spotted her, she would never have been found. They have puppies that come from very good bloodlines and they focus mostly on Australian Labradoodles, Multi-Generational Labradoodles F3 , Goldendoodles, and double doodles. Johnson raises them like their own within their own home and they teach them basics from a young age until they go home. They socialize the puppies with people and other dogs so they are ready to go to their forever homes. Tips for New Puppy Owners Congratulations on your new puppy! That tip is to take the time to prepare your puppy for his first visit to the grooming salon! Most puppies have their first grooming experience at around 11 or 12 weeks of age when their course of vaccinations is complete. Daily Brushing First of all, you must get into the routine of combing and brushing your Doodle pup every day. After a few days of wriggling and attempting to steal the grooming tools, Raffles has now gotten used to the whole rigmarole and accepts it without too much protest. Blow Dry Many dogs find the sound and sensation of a blow dryer quite alarming, so I started to introduce my puppy to that from day one. When I dried my hair, I simply put Raffles on the bed next to me, set the dryer onto its lowest, coolest setting, and gently allowed the air to pass over him. Here is a Labradoodle puppy checklist to help your puppy settle in during their first month in your home: Make sure you have a safe place for your puppy to sleep. This could be a crate or an exercise pen with a soft bed inside. Puppies need to eat three to four times a day, so make sure you have a regular feeding schedule of good quality pet food for the healthiest puppy possible. Puppies should be taken outside frequently to go to the bathroom. They may not hold it for long at first, so be prepared for accidents. Happy puppies need a lot of exercise, so make sure you have time for long walks or play sessions every day. Start with basic commands like sit, stay, and come, and be consistent with your rewards and corrections. Remember to be patient! Enjoy this time and create lots of happy memories with your new furry friend. Puppy mills are large-scale commercial dog breeding operations that churn out puppies for profit without regard to the welfare of the animals. The puppies are often raised in horrible conditions and may not receive proper vet care or socialization. The breeder seems more interested in making a sale than answering your questions or getting to know you. The breeder has multiple breeds of puppies available. The breeder has puppies that are very young less than eight weeks old. We made a list of ethical Labradoodle breeders from nearby states, so you will not fall into the hands of these puppy mills. Check these out:. This means all our breeding dogs trace back to AKC registered purebred dogs or they have been DNA tested to ensure no other breeds are present in their ancestry. The Australian Labradoodle is different from all other labradoodles. Dogs from this cross typically were bred to each other over future generations, whereby the Australian dogs are also know as "Multi-generational" Labradoodles. The resulting labradoodles subsequently have been bred to each other, continuing the multi-generational tradition. Even when the other types of Labradoodles are bred on for generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle, as the attributes of the infused breeds were not included in their ancestry. The Australian Labradoodle Club of America was founded exclusively to foster and protect the original Australian Labradoodles that have come directly from Tegan Park and Rutland Manor breeding stock, or their offspring. Our mission is to maintain and improve the quality and soundness of the Australian Labradoodles, and to carefully monitor the further development of the breed. All member breeders are carefully screened to help ensure the future of the Australian Labradoodle. Our member breeders must breed to the highest standards. We have Breeder Mentors to assist member breeders and to help new breeders get off to a good start. If someone in your family has allergies, a multi-generation Australian Labradoodle from Red Desert Doodles should be your first choice. Each of our breeding dogs is fully health tested before they are eligible for breeding. Our puppies all come with a two year health guarantee. Where in the world are our Red Desert Doodles Families? Magnolia Australian Labradoodles was created to breed exceptional Labradoodle puppies to carry on the traits that make this breed so wonderful! We only have a few litters a year as we truly put our heart and soul into each of our puppies, as well as, the dogs that live here with us. At Magnolia Australian Labradoodles we consider each of our dogs a member of the family and we treat the puppies no differently. From day one, the Labradoodle puppies are in our home, being handled, played with and loved every single day. Someone is with them the majority of the time, making sure they are well cared for and interacting with them throughout the day. What makes us different? Through this method your new puppy will be calm and confident from day one. Your new puppy will be introduced to sleeping in a crate and beginning house training. This way your first night home will be a smoother transition for your puppy. We believe that attention to every detail is important. We are very approachable and when our materials do not answer a question you might have, we are committed to answering all your questions and fully preparing you to bring home your new family member. Our Goal is Excellence! Our goal at every point in the process is excellence. When you decide that Magnolia Australian Labradoodles is the best choice for your family, we take your decision very seriously. You become part of our family! We are passionate about sharing this exquisite breed with others, and providing wonderful homes for our pups. Once we decided to get an Australian Labradoodle, we then set out to find the best breeder we could find. We spent several months trying to find a breeder with not only good reviews, but also one who would understand our needs having a son with autism. We thought we had found a good breeder but they were not responsive and their contract was crazy long with some pretty crazy requirements. Right from the start, Judy was very responsive to ALL our questions. She understood our concerns about getting the right dog for our son. Once we decided to go forward with it, she even let us come visit to get to know our soon-to-be new family member. She has been so responsive to our questions and concerns even after bringing little JoJo home. Her training program has made such a huge difference and has taken away so much of the normal stress of having a new puppy. Thank you Judy. We are so in love with our sweet little JoJo. We elected to do bring our pup home around 12 weeks so he could do the advanced training and it was the right choice. Our pup did amazing in his crate, adjusted quickly and was comfortable going out on a leash to learn his bathroom spot at this new house. He did great with a 18 month old and 5 year old without any nipping. Chris Beck The decision to add a dog into our family was a big one. We took our time researching, with the selection of a breeder being a huge factor. I stumbled upon Judy at Magnolia Labradoodles and was instantly intrigued. I liked that she only had one litter at a time. I knew my puppy would be getting attention and care. I liked that past customers said she was responsive and the experience was personal. My telephone conversation with her was also critical. I had lots of questions and she had answers for all of them and gave me all the time I needed to feel comfortable. I could tell she loved what she did and it was personal to her…not just a business. We opted for the additional training and felt this made the transition home for our dog go smoothly. He did not nip at us, knew his name, how to focus on us, how to sit and was happy in his crate. We had to wait quite a while to bring our dog home, but Judy kept us updated with photos and videos. She even face-timed my children twice so they could see their dog. It was a great experience and worth the wait. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Labradoodles. We have always had English Labrador Retrievers, but due to us getting older we wanted something a little smaller but also hardy. Lexi is everything you could ask for: intelligent, kind, loving, good with people and children, loves all dogs, loves to play with our cat, walks and hikes great and the added bonus if the above items are not enough they are absolutely gorgeous!!!! We had an amazing experience with Judy!! Judy was always there to answer all my questions and she still is a year later!! That in itself is an outstanding quality, not to mention the wonderful job Judy does getting them ready for their forever homes. If you are skeptical about doing the 3 week training…DO IT!!! It was well worth it. We put Lexi in her crate the first night and she went right to sleep. I will never forget when we went to pick Lexi up. Judy let us in and there in the living room was this gorgeous, well behaved dog that just sat there until I went over and picked her up. I started crying and as I turned around, so was Judy!! That just showed me the love and compassion she has for raising these outstanding dogs. If after reading this, if you are still unsure, please feel free to contact me. Judy has my contact information. Debbie Stierly Working with Judy was fantastic. Cadbury Harmony and Rhett is as perfect a puppy as you could imagine. From the beginning, Judy helped my daughters face their fear of dogs and see how kind and loving puppies can be. This is absolutely a much better way to ensure success. Judy treats her pups with love and kindness. She dotes on them! When we brought Cadbury home, family and friends could not get over his calm and loving personality. He adjusted immediately, slept well on the first night, and already had learned manners. While it is hard to wait the extra 3 weeks, it is so nice to have a puppy that has learned basic obedience, crate training, and potty training! If you plan to add a puppy to your family and want a dog that will be sweet, obedient, and gentle, look no further! Judy was excellent throughout the process and was responsive, organized, detailed and passionate. Lucy was the smallest in the litter of Harmony and Rhett and needed a lot of extra care just to be able to make it to our home. Judy spent many sleepless nights to make this happen. Lucy is…. She is a kind and gentle puppy with a great spirit for adventure. We are enjoying her everyday! I highly recommend working with Judy if you are looking for a great addition to your family! The puppy that we recently got from Magnolia Australian Doodles was worth the wait and cost for such a lovely little addition to our menagerie. He was introduced to numerous adults, noisy children, other dogs, a cat, sweeper, hour car ride home and multiple other stimuli and he was unfazed. And this was just during the first two days. Not to mention a huge thunder and lightening storm. He is going to one of those special dogs, you talk about. PK Pamela Kratzer Five stars are honestly not enough! Judy made the experience of getting a puppy so easy and stress free. She was always available, and answered my thousands of questions. She sent us updates and photos weekly too! You can tell Judy puts her heart and soul into caring for each litter. Our puppy is almost 3 months old, and we are so happy we chose Magnolia Australian Labradoodles! Our puppy slept the whole first night, and is the most loving and fun puppy ever! Despite the pandemic going on, Judy did her best to socialize the puppies. She sends you home with a complete binder with everything you need to raise your puppy! Duke has been a great addition to our family and I highly recommend Magnolia Australian Labradoodles if you want a caring and knowledgeable breeder!! You guys are truly incredible. Thank you. He really brings a smile to all of us, all the time. I had done a lot of research on the web of this breed. Judy welcomed my questions and answered with obvious knowledge of having done her own research. She was able to answer any question or concern that I may have had. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Australian Labradoodle kennel to anyone looking for a beautiful Australian Labradoodle. I would also highly recommend the additional 3 weeks with Judy as she trains and teaches confidence. Ella came to us, confident and well adjusted. She was able to be in her crate all night 9hrs without even a whimper. She was able to sit and layed down on command. She is a lovable, sweet, attentive and is so well adjusted from the minute we brought her home.
