More and more sources state that Pugs, due to the fact that they are a short coated dog breed, they are more prone to experience acne than other long coated dog breeds. What Is Canine Acne? Canines that experience mild cases will most of the time develop red pustules on the skin. Scabs on their face, swelling of their lips or bleeding might also appear when most serious cases occur. With the right treatment, Pug acne can disappear rather fast , although it might also lead to some discomfort up to a certain extent. Can My Pug Experience Acne? Some dog owners mistake them for warts, which are nothing more than skin growths, while acne are small bumps most of the time full of pus. The most common ones are: Might occur as whiteheads, bumps or blackheads. Lumps may become inflamed or swell. Lumps might become painful when touched. You may notice your Pug scratching his little face against various things e. Food particles can be an important factor when it comes to acne. This could be performed with dog facial wipes, unscented baby wipes or a simple damp washcloth. Hormonal Fluctuation — A puppy of this breed going through puberty might develop acne around their chin and genital region. This can occur regardless of the gender. This type of pimples will disappear little by little as the dog matures. Irritation from Bowls —Stainless stain bowls are recommended as plastic bowls can lead to allergies, while porous bowls can host bacteria. Types of Pug Acne Superficial Acne — This type of acne occurs when pimples or bumps develop on the muzzle or face of the dog. Nasal Acne — It occurs when your Pug enjoys digging a little too much or is sticking his little nose in the most unsuitable places possible. Hyperkeratosis — This happens when your Pug produces large amounts of keratin, resulting in the occurrence of calluses on their small bodies. Juvenile Acne — It begins when your Pug is around 6 months old and will stick with him until the little one becomes an adult canine. How to Prevent Pug Acne? Obviously, the most efficient technique to reduce any allergies that relate with acne is to find out what type of allergy is and get rid of it. It could be environmental related e. You could conduct some testing at your nearest veterinarian clinic, but these tests can be very expensive. Besides, you have no guarantee that your vet will be able to pinpoint the exact allergen. However, in most serious cases your vet might need to confirm the initial diagnosis with some further investigations. He could advise for a skin biopsy in order to rule out any other possible disorders. However, if a dog owner should notice a larger outbreak or any bleeding being involved, this is the moment when things might get more serious and vet help is recommended. Treatment The first step of treatment is trying to maintain the involved areas dry and clean. Some chlorhexidine on a wipe will work quite nicely for most Pugs. However, this is only an over-the-counter medicated wipe. A better option will be Sogeval Douxo Chlorhexidine pads. Veterinarian prescribed medicated rinses might be required for moderate to serious situations. Chronic cases might require treatment with antibiotics. Does Pug Acne Go Away? Acne in dogs is unpleasant to look at, but in most cases, very easy to treat. Can Dogs Get Pimples? Dogs can, and do get pimples. Dog acne is quite common, and there are many different factors that can contribute to your dog's lumpy muzzle. Dog pimples are often subtle at first and can go unnoticed, but once your pup is dealing with full-blown acne, it's hard to miss. So, we know that dogs get pimples, but is it the same kind of canine acne that we suffer from? Much like acne in humans, dog acne can present in a few easily recognizable ways: Red Bumps Pustules Swelling or redness around the muzzle More severe cases of dog acne can lead to infection, which can present more painful and oozing sores, especially for dogs that are scratching or rubbing the area to try to soothe their discomfort. Because the early signs of dog acne can be missed, excessive scratching or face rubbing is the first sign that your dog may have some dog skin issues. But Really, What is Dog Acne? While the physical presentation can vary, dog and puppy acne is the result of a clog or build-up of oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells in a hair follicle. This build-up causes the pore to clog and create a sore at the surface of the hair follicle. Inflammation in the follicle, bacteria, or hormonal changes can cause sebum to overproduce. This results in the nasty pus that can ooze from the pimples. Yuck, right? Pus can be gross, but it has its purpose. In addition to acting to protect your dog from infection, it's a visible sign to you that your dog's body is in defensive mode. What Causes Dog Acne? Well, just like people, many factors can contribute to dog acne on chin. This indicates that hormones may very well be a factor. Most puppies who experience acne start to show symptoms between the ages of months. Canine acne can be very temporary or could last beyond months in some cases. For many cases of adolescent dog acne, the conditions are mild and will go away on their own as they reach adulthood. Poor Hygiene The other very common contributor to acne in dogs is hygiene. For breeds with extra wrinkles and skin folds around their face, hygiene tends to be compromised. Many dog breeds with short bristly muzzle fur are at risk, too. Middle-aged dogs are especially prone to the skin surface. Some of the most common dog breeds to suffer from acne are ones that fall under both categories, like: Rottweilers English bulldogs Pugs This is because those folds and crevices are a breeding ground for bacteria and dirt. In addition to collecting bacteria quickly, their short and coarse fur can easily irritate the skin in these areas. Hygiene applies to more than just their bodies. Your dog may not seem to mind his smelly, dirty toys, but his pores do. Mange, or other parasites — Many parasitic reactions can look quite like pimples. Fungal infections — fungus can create skin lesions and sores that can be mistaken for acne. Ringworm is a common zit-looking infection as well as the Demodex mite. Diseases, infections, and other illnesses need to be ruled out before you start dog acne treatment. How to treat dog acne? If you do have a wrinkly dog, then be diligent about cleaning the folds daily. Try to stick to warm water and a soft washcloth whenever possible. Frequent use of soaps and scented shampoos can dry out the skin condition, leading to more irritation. If you're on the go, pet wipes come in handy. Opt for unscented or hypoallergenic ones whenever possible. Fragrances can further irritate your dog's skin condition. Keep Him Dry Dark, moist places are the perfect environment for bacteria to run rampant. Keep a dry towel handy to wipe his face after he drinks or eats. This is especially handy with extra drooly dogs. Dental care products like food or water additives can also help to control bacteria around the mouth. Topical Treatments Like our own acne, using a topical treatment can be useful in reducing symptoms and irritation. Talk to your vet about a topical gel or ointment that uses Benzoyl Peroxide. This ingredient is found in many human acne treatments. We advise against buying a human product for your dog. Other ingredients, dosages, and formulas can be harmful to your pet, so talk to your vet about a pet-specific product. If you are looking for some more natural topical remedies for canine acne and other chin acne, then maybe these will be a better fit for you: Aloe Vera Diluted Apple Cider Vinegar Apple cider vinegar is a great topical treatment because of its antibacterial properties, but should not be used on open skin, as it will sting. Clean Toys and Bowls Toys, bowls, and dog beds should be regularly cleaned. Look for beds that have removable, washable covers that can be cleaned or replaced when needed. Most toys can be cleaned routinely to reduce bacteria and preserve the life of the toys. While bowls should, of course, be cleaned regularly too, that may not be enough to protect your pet. Plastic bowls and fountains retain way more bacteria than ones made of glass, ceramic, or metal. Tiny cuts, scratches, and cracks are a great place for bacteria to hide and grow, so ditch the plastic bowls and switch to something more durable. Take pictures to help track success. If you do end up back at the vet, then at least you will have examples and evidence to help your vet determine the best course of action. They can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment options. She has worked in the pet industry for over a decade and loves to share her passion for animal welfare with others. This characteristic is commonly seen with breeds that were initially bred for fighting the loose skin was intended to offer protection. However in looking at the history of the breed, the Pug was only used minimally in the military and as guard dogs. He was geared toward being a lap dog and primarily owned by those in the upper class. So while this trait is a genetic trait, it is thought that it is simply for aesthetic purposes only. Careful and purposeful development of the breed over generations gives us a dog today in which the skin is minimally loose over the body, moderately on the upper body and majorly loose on the head and facial area. The Head and Face - Breed standards dictate that the folds on the head should be 'large and deep'. The reason that the skin is loose on the forehead is because the skull does not have prominent skeletal brow ridges. This breed was developed to not have this feature as it was intentionally bred to have a compressed face and skull. The Body - Pugs will vary in regard to how much loose skin is over the body. It is normal for Pugs to have much more looser skin on the upper portion of the body than the lower. It is common for it to be loose: Around the base of the head Coming down the neck The chin area, often hanging down distinctly loose Across the chest Over the top half of the back Puppies may somewhat grow into their skin; during the first year of growth there will be pronounced muscle development which allows the dog to fill out. For some, the skin across the back and chest will tighten up a bit. Depending on the Pug dog, there may or may not be enough excess skin for the dog to have folds aside from the face. If he does, this is most noticeable on the neck, shoulder and chest area. It is also normal for a Pug to have some bunching of the skin across the top of his back when he sits down. As a Pug ages and matures into a senior there can be a gradual loss of muscle mass that in turn causes the skin to appear looser. Those that have chronic problems of yeast infections and other skin issues may be candidates for surgery that removes excess skin in problem areas. Demodectic Mange This is most often seen in puppies, although it can develop in an older dog. It is caused by a particular mite, called the Demodex mite. When this almost microscopic pest invades your Pug, it will affect the skin which then leads to fur loss. Patches of the coat may fall out, this can happen in just one particular location or several across the body. As the hairs fall out and areas become thinner, you will often notice that the skin underneath is pink. There may also be an odd not pleasant odor. What makes this difficult for both dog and owner is that many times a secondary bacterial infection will set in…And it is this 2nd issue that causes quite a bit of itchiness. As this progresses, the skin will dry out even more and spots will become red. If this is suspected, the veterinarian should do a deep skin scraping that takes a sample that can then be observed under strong microscopes If it is found to be this type of mange, it can be treated with prescription medication. Luckily, there is no proof that it is contagious. Hot Spots Many owners wonder what hot spots on a Pug are. This is not a particular skin disease, it is a condition that manifests from an initial disorder. Dry skin may be the cause - particularly in the winter when the air is arid and cold, though many times it will be due to an allergic reaction. These are red, inflamed areas on the body. They often appear on the thighs or lower back, however they can be located just about anywhere. Most are circular in nature but may have an irregular border. They will be raw areas of skin that can be very itchy. If not treated, hair loss may occur. In the early stages, a hot spot can be treated at home with a quality hot spot spray such as Vet's Best Hot Spot Spray for Dogs. Alternatively, breaking open a Vitamin E capsule and gently rubbing in the oil may help. Until the spots heal, do not allow your Pug to lie down on hard flooring or carpeting that can cause friction issues; place down a soft blanket that has been washed in hypo-allergenic laundry detergent, or encourage your Pug to rest and sleep on his bed. If the spots do not heal, this sort of sore can develop into broken skin that is vulnerable to infection. At this point, an antibacterial topical ointment is needed. The veterinarian can also perform testing to identify a possible allergen see below. Allergies — Dry, Itchy and Red Skin Many dogs have some type of allergy and with the Pug breed the 2 most common ways in which the body reacts is breathing problems and skin reaction. Itchy skin causes a dog to scratch, which only exasperates the problem. Chewing, gnawing or scratching at infected areas can open up sores which can then become infected. Blood tests and skin patch testing can sometimes narrow in on the triggers, however it is not uncommon for this to be inconclusive. A veterinarian can prescribe antihistamines, and sometimes steroids are needed for short term use. There can be some side effects with this, therefore it may take a bit of experimenting to see at what point there is relief with the lowest dose possible. A medicated bathing solution may be prescribed. There are simple steps that you can take at home to try and rid the environment of the trigger and help your Pug recover from this sort of skin problem: Use a HEPA certified vaccum cleaner. Seasonal allergies pollen, weeds, etc. Additionally, elements on outside surfaces lawn chemicals, ice melt can easily be brought inside. Therefore, an outdoor element that is causing your Pug's skin problem can be brought inside. HEPA filters are able to catch very small particles 0. If you have a central air unit, running it with HEPA certified filters can greatly improve air quality. When giving baths, use a soothing shampoo and conditioner. Be sure to rinse extremely well, as any residue left on the skin will cause irritation. Always pat your Pug with a towel, never rubbing the skin. If your Pug has areas of skin that are raw, place a soft baby blanket down where he normally rests be sure to first wash it with hypo-allergenic detergent. If the cause of skin eruptions is unknown, there is a chance that the Pug is allergic to a food ingredient. Immediately start him on a bland diet consisting only of white chicken breast, rice and sweet potatoes. Allow 3 weeks to pass and then introduce one new food ingredient. Every 2 weeks, add one new element, taking note if any skin problem develops. If so, eliminate that element from all future meals. In cases like this, it'll be important to go down the list of each possible reason. You'll either rule it out, or follow each of the steps to resolve it. If you still cannot determine the reason for the itching, your Pug's veterinarian can help diagnose the issue. In addition, while some home remedies work very well, there are some conditions that will require prescribed treatments. Read more: Pug Dog Itchiness. Pimples It is not uncommon for Pug to develop acne, often seen on the chin area. Some refer to these as warts, however warts are skin growths and a pimple is a small bump usually filled with pus that develops from a clogged skin pore. This is true of both males and females. This type of acne will gradually disappear as the Pug matures. Contact irritation from bowls - Using stainless steel bowls can help and are always recommended since porous bowls can harbor bacteria and plastics can cause allergic reactions. Improper facial hygiene - It is important to thoroughly wipe a Pug's face after each meal. Tiny food particles can trigger be a contributing factor to acne. This can be done with canine facial wipes, a damp washcloth or an unscented baby wipe. Be sure to wipe afterward with a dry cloth so that moisture does not remain in the wrinkles. Treatment 1 Keeping the area clean and dry is the first step to helping clear up the problem. This is an OTC medicated wipe. A good one to try is Sogeval Douxo Chlorhexidine Pads. Skin Fold Pyoderma Areas of a Pug where there is loose skin or skin that folds over onto itself, can become damp and then develop a skin infection. The most common sites for this are the curl of the tail , the vulva of females and the face. The skin may appear red or irritated and there will be a distinct, unpleasant odor. Using wipes containing hydrocortisone can help resolve this. Routine use of a small amount of benzoyl peroxide can often keep this type of skin problem from reoccurring. Staph Infection If your Pug appears to have large pimples on his or her skin, this may be a sign of a staph infection. In some cases, it can be compared better to hives, as they may be large bumps on the skin which causes the hairs to stick up. On the underbelly or any spots that are not normally covered by the coat, you may see what appears to be ringworm, you may see circles that have a rather crusty edge to them. Whether ringworm or staph, it will certainly be time for a visit to the veterinarian. Antibiotics and medicated shampoo will be the usual treatment. Odor Some skin problems and conditions can cause the skin to emit a terrible odor. When you can clearly detect an unpleasant smell , this is most often caused by a yeast infection of the skin. The coat of a Pug is very thick and infection can settle in on the surface of the skin and in wrinkles where it has a perfect environment to grow. The dense fur can keep the skin surface dark, warm and moist: elements that encourage bacterial and yeast growth. In some cases, there will be intense itching and skin may turn black and appear to be thicker in some spots. With many Pugs, this is most noticeable in the armpits, paws, groin area and around the neck. It can also develop in and around the ears. If a skin yeast infection has reached a Pug dog's ears, there is often an increase in ear wax that is yellow or brown. This is diagnosed by a veterinarian who will do skin scrapings and swab the ears to test for yeast. In stubborn cases, an oral anti-fungal medication may need to be prescribed by the veterinarian. Yes, Pugs are extremely prone to getting Pimples as well as other short-haired breeds such as boxers, English Bulldogs, Rottweilers, Great Danes, and others. Just like you and I can get bumps and spots on our skin, Pugs can get acne on different parts of their body. Most dogs will have mild cases of acne, however, some will develop severe acne problems. Both cats and dogs are susceptible to acne. Whatever you do, you do not want to squeeze these pimples. That will only cause the problem to spread to other parts of their body. Read this article if you want to know how to get rid of their acne. What Is Canine Acne? Dogs with mild cases will usually develop red bumps or pustules pimples on their skin. Swelling of the lips and muzzle, scabs on the face, and bleeding can occur in more severe cases. If left untreated it can cause permanent scarring for your pooch. What Causes Pug Acne? Canine acne is no different than humans in the fact that it is caused when your pup goes through puberty. It is also triggered by a combination of excess oily sebum and dead skin cells. These dead skin cells cause the hair follicles to become clogged which results in raised red bumps, whiteheads, or blackheads. There are literally tons of different reasons why some Pugs develop acne including hormonal changes, genetic factors, food, trauma, and environmental allergies. Bad hygiene can also be a cause of acne. Bad doggie dental care may also attribute to acne problems. Read this article to find out what type of skin disorders can affect a Pug. Well, after doing some research I found an image on Flickr that shows a Pug dog with acne. Loki the Pug dog has some acne on their face. Loki does not have a terrible case of acne, but the video below will give you an idea of how bad this condition can be if left untreated. This 8-month-old Pug has a terrible case of facial and ear pimples. Symptoms of Dog Acne Pugs are susceptible to several different types of skin disorders. You should never take this condition lightly. Types of Canine Acne Nasal Acne: occurs when you have a puppy that loves digging or is constantly sticking their nose in unsuitable places. Juvenile Acne: starts developing when your puppy is about six months of age and will not usually go away until your pup reaches adulthood. Hyperkeratosis: Your dog produces too much keratin, which results in the appearance of calluses on their body. This condition is a thickening of the skin, which resemble pimples. Breeds Most Affected By Acne This condition is known to affect short-haired dogs and the following breeds are prone to deal with this condition. Doberman Pinschers. What Is That? Yep, dogs can get pimples just like people! Their heavily wrinkled faces make them more prone to it as well. What Causes Acne In Pugs? Clogged pores. Basically, acne is caused by your dogs sebum natural skin oils , bacteria and dead skin cells building up on the surface of the skin and clogging the pores. When the pores get clogged, the immune system responds to try to fight the bacteria and acne develops. However, how frequently the area needs to be cleaned can vary from dog to dog. Some dogs will experience acne with really low levels of bacteria and sebum buildup, while others have a higher tolerance. They may just get acne with less bacteria than other dogs. Age is a factor. Regardless f the cause, if your dog is experiencing pimples that means they need their skin cared for differently. Many pugs get acne on their lower jaw. Pugs have slight jowls which can leave their lower mouth wet after drinking from their water dish. For some reason my pug Beans used to almost always have a damp lower mouth! I assume it was just something about the shape of her muzzle. If you have a pug like that where their fur stays wet for a long time after drinking, this may increase the odds of bacteria spreading. In that case, drying off their mouth after drinking may help. Keep Them Clean. If your dog makes a big mess while eating, washing their muzzle after meal time can greatly reduce any occurrence of acne. Ditch the plastic bowl. Plastic water and food dishes for dogs can breed bacteria a lot worse than other materials because plastic is somewhat porous. Changing to stainless steel bowls, glass or ceramic can help. We used plastic dog bowls when we first got our pugs but Frank developed acne so we switched to stainless steel bowls. They were a little more pricy but they lasted us for years. Wash their food and water dish daily. If your dog gets injured and has an open wound, that area will be extra prone to developing irritation or infection. If your dog ever gets injured around their mouth, be extra diligent about keeping the area clean and dry to avoid an acne outbreak. A healthy diet. Again, like people, diet can impact our skin health. Wash their toys regularly. Any toys that your pug puts in their mouth get germs on them. Wash their toys regularly to keep them clean. If your dog rubs their muzzle along firm surfaces r paws at their face, this can further irritate their hair follicles or even break off hairs which ca leave their facial pores more open and more likely to develop even more acne. Try a dog acne shampoo. They make dog shampoos that are designed to flush the hair follicles, usually with topical benzoyl peroxide. How long does pug acne last? Dog acne can last up to 12 weeks in severe cases. If you have a young pug who seems to have acne due to their age, keep in mind that it is still about sebum clogging their pores. Signs that it has gotten severe is if the pimples have bled, if their mouth or lips are swollen, if hair loss has occurred, or if here is oozig. Acne can develop into bacterial or fungal infections among other big problems. In some cases dogs may need steroid treatments, antibiotics or other treatments that only a vet can provide. Can You Pop Pug Pimples? Popping the zit can cause further trauma to the skin and leave it open to more irritation and inflammation, leading to more problems. Pug acne is caused by a buildup of natural Sebum on your Pugs skin. Sebum is produced naturally to protect the skin and coat. But this sebum is made up of oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells that, when overproduced, clog the pores and create acne sore on the hair follicle surface. When bacteria becomes trapped in the follicle, the body produces white blood cells as a defence against infection. That is what causes oozing spots and pimples. Why do these occur? Genetic predisposition Genetic predisposition is thought to contribute to skin acne in dogs since some breeds are more prone to spots than others. Pugs, Boxers, Mastiffs, Rottweilers, and Dobermans, for example, experience acne at higher rates than other breeds. Hair follicles rupture due to inflammation and if infected, bacteria collects on the damaged skin, causing infection. This can result in weeping sores, scratching, and bacterial buildup resulting in pimples. Your vet can check for underlying conditions and parasites that might be contributing to skin irritation and acne. Puberty and hormones It is commonly thought that canine acne accompanies puberty at five to eight months. As hormones fluctuate, excess oil and dead skin cells accumulate, clogging hair follicles and causing spots. Some people believe that canine acne is not hormonal, however, and that it is the result of hygiene and genetic factors. Poor hygiene Poor hygiene causes bacterial buildup. Pugs love to muzzle around and their skin folds are breeding grounds for bacteria. Contact irritation Contact irritation from everyday items like food and water bowls can cause acne. Porous materials are a breeding ground for bacteria and some materials plastic in particular can cause allergic reactions. Top-tip: Get your Pug some stainless steel bowls internal linking to best bowls for pugs and utensils. Stainless steel can prevent bacterial buildup and contact irritation. For prevention Prevention is better than cure, as they say. So here are some top tips for preventing acne from developing in your Pug. Healthy diet For Pugs experiencing allergy-related acne, diet can have a huge impact on their skin health. Try and find out which foods are causing their allergic reaction and eliminate them. Consult your vet before choosing a dog-food brand and check the ingredients for any suspected allergens. Toys and bowls Contact irritation contributes to canine acne. Avoid using plastic bowls and toys. Plastic products scratch easily and bacteria multiply in these tiny crevices. Switch to stainless steel utensils and keep them thoroughly cleaned and well-dried. Wash toys and bedding regularly to reduce bacterial exposure further. Good hygiene One of the best things you can do for your Pug is keeping them clean. Acne comes about when oil and dirt build up on the skin. Wiping your pooch down once or twice a day will do wonders. Avoid using heavily scented products as these cause irritation. Warm water and a soft cloth will suffice. Aim for regular bathing once a week and dental brushing each day to prevent oral bacteria buildup causing acne around the muzzle. You could even try offering your Pug a special dental chew. Check out this video tutorial on how to clean your Pug: 2. For mild cases If your Pug already has a few pimples, trying out some home-remedies is a good first port of call. Everything from ointments to herbs can help alleviate discomfort. Try dog acne shampoo Buy dog acne shampoos, typically benzoyl peroxide, follicle flushing your Pugs to flush out blackheads and reduce the spread of bacteria. Remember to rinse well afterward. Invest in Natural products There are many natural products on the market suitable for mild canine acne. For severe cases If your Pug is experiencing a severe case of acne visit your veterinarian as soon as possible. Severe acne requires medication, and your vet will want to carry out some localized testing to rule out other skin conditions. FAQ 1. Can you pop pug pimples? What If the Pug pimples do not go away? Particularly if you start to notice bad smells or an excess of pus. This could be a sign of demodectic mange, ringworm, or a pre-existing allergy exacerbated by diet, or contact with an irritant. Most of the time, a spot of canine acne will relieve itself naturally. Pug acne is fairly common as a result of their genetic predisposition and a propensity to harbor bacteria in their facial folds. This fits with what we now know about broken hair shafts inflaming the follicles. Mild acne looks like raised red bumps on the skin. Be sure to look closely: Sometimes the bumps that whiskers grow from, which are perfectly normal, can be mistaken for acne spots. What Is a Pustule on a Dog? If those red bumps come to a head, they become whiteheads or the all-too-familiar pimple more correctly called a pustule. This can be sterile no bacteria present or infected contains bacteria. Severe acne with lots of dog pimples causes general soreness and swelling. This inflammation makes the skin of the lips and muzzle swell, giving them a fat face. So resist temptation. Instead, try one of the treatment options listed below. But, it needs to be said, seeing a veterinarian is important. Never assume the problem is simple dog acne, because the problem can be complex. Skin immunity plays a big part in preventing acne. The acne then becomes a symptom of a bigger problem, rather than a diagnosis in its own right. Examples of these predisposing factors include allergy , ringworm or Demodex mites. Either way, a correct diagnosis makes the difference between the treatment working or not. OK, for those already with a diagnosis of uncomplicated dog pimples, now we will talk about treatments and solutions for dog acne. Follicle Flushing Follicle flushing means washing out those dirty hair follicles to keep them sparkling clean. The idea is to remove the bacteria that cause infection and to stop those pimples from developing. Follicle flushing is done using medicated shampoo. Look for a dog acne shampoo that contains benzyl peroxide. Yes, this may sound familiar from human acne treatments, but do not use the human version of the shampoo. Dog Acne and Antibiotics If the acne is particularly bad or there are bleeding spots, the vet may prescribe antibiotics. The most common bacteria causing canine acne are the Staphylococcus group, since these are normal residents on the surface of canine skin. If the acne keeps flaring up, the vet may then suggest swabbing the skin, to harvest some of the bacteria for culture. The antibiotics are usually taken by mouth rather than applied as an ointment. The therapy needs to work from the inside out in order to be effective. A long course of several weeks may also be needed. Stopping therapy too early can run the risk of a relapse. This may either be a topical gel, injection or tablets. The idea is to reduce the swelling and give the dog relief from the discomfort. By reducing the urge to itch, the dog is less likely to damage themselves, which allows things to settle down. Of course, using steroids in young dogs is not ideal. Even with medication, it can take 4—12 weeks for severe acne to settle down. But the good news is that individual pimples will be gone in a matter of days or weeks. And for those who prefer to try natural remedies, below are some options to try. Apple cider vinegar has mild antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, and it may help prevent acne in dogs who are prone to getting it. If your dog gets a grubby chin from rooting around in dirt, give the dog a bath. But … On the minus side, this is an oil, so plugging the follicles with a greasy substance could actually feed the bacteria. Given that the antibacterial action is weak, the cons probably out weight the pros. This is why I do not recommend using coconut oil for dog acne. ACV is most effective when used as a preventive measure in acne-prone dogs rather than as a treatment for a full-scale acne flare-up. Green Tea Among its beneficial properties, green tea is mildly astringent when applied to the skin. Make the tea as normal and leave it to cool. Aloe Vera Known for its antibacterial and soothing properties, aloe vera gel can calm sensitized skin. Aloe vera has the added benefit of hydrating the skin, which may be dried out by washing. Nettle Nettle infusion is an old remedy used for alleviating the discomfort caused by conditions such as eczema and acne. Calendula This is another traditional remedy to aid skin healing. Use a tincture of Calendula , diluting about 6 drops in 1 ounce of water. It can take more than a month for severe acne in a dog to go away, but with proper treatment your pup may be back to normal. Make sure as well that you have what you need to effectively train your dog. If you're planning to clicker train, get a clicker. If you're planning to crate train, get the right-sized crate. Also be sure to pick up an appropriate collar and leash for general training. A leash should be no more than five to six feet in length. The best leashes for training are leather. Always check your equipment to make sure it is in good order and not liable to snap or break. Training works best when you dedicate a couple of short sessions 10 to 15 minutes twice a day to it. Try to train at times when the dog is not tired, but also not bursting with pent-up energy. Karen Pryor. Publisher: Ringpress Books Consider expending your Boxer's energy before training sessions by allowing him 20 to 30 minutes of high-intensity physical activity. This will enable him to better focus on training. Try to train the dog in a place where there are few distractions, so that your Boxer puppy can focus his attention on you. This means avoiding places with other animals or people. Always begin training in your home or yard and build up to environments with more distractions e. Your commands need to be simple, short, clear and consistent. Don't lecture your dog; they're not human so they don't process language in the same way. Phrases like "I've told you not to do that" or "Please stop chewing on the table" will not work as they are too complicated. John Bradshaw. Publisher: Penguin Experts believe that a given dog registers the first part of the word as the most important, so longer commands such as "Sit Fido if you want a treat" are liable to confuse him. Just say the word "Sit" instead. In general, shouting at any dog is ineffective. This is especially true for Boxers who are hyper breed by nature. Use a firm but pleasant and upbeat voice when instructing your dog; don't yell or lose control. Dogs are very intuitive and will be able to sense your frustration and may react in kind. The tone of voice matters, especially since, again, dogs don't process language in the same way that humans do. So how you say something may mean as much if not more than what you say. Publisher: Penguin Boxers are playful by nature, and a light, breezy tone will not suffice; he will think you are just playing with him if you are not firm enough. Try using hand gestures at the same time as you issue verbal commands. For example, raise your hand at the same time as saying "Sit". Dog behaviorists believe that dogs look for multiple clues as to what we want them to do, which includes the command word, tone of voice, and body language. Admonishing a Boxer puppy too long after the incident is ineffective. If you need to admonish or correct your dog, it needs to be done during or within a few seconds of the act. Dogs will have forgotten the event within seconds of its occurrence, so it's key to address the behavior immediately in order to facilitate the retraining process. Boxers are notoriously stubborn and steadfast, so you may have to correct your puppy numerous times. Always be consistent in your commands and desires of the dog. This helps your dog to understand what is expected. Don't forget to enforce training when you are out and about, so that your dog doesn't just thinking that "Sit" and "Stay" are things he has to do in the yard or house. By enforcing commands in public places it helps your Boxers to understand he must obey under all circumstances. Leave no room for doubt about what is acceptable behavior for your Boxer puppy. If he is not allowed on the furniture, be consistent. Boxers won't understand the concept of "sometimes"; they are either permitted to lie on the couch or they are not. If you live with other people, make sure that everyone in the house is on board with the training program. Using different words for the same action will confuse the dog, disrupt the training already done, and ultimately delay progress. But at the moment, they need your guidance. For now, this includes sleeping next to you for the first few weeks, maybe even longer. Just have their crate or bed close to wherever you sleep. Our articles on sleeping through the night and establishing a nighttime routine will give you extra tips on getting through this phase. A puzzle toy or Kong will work great at making them feel like you leaving them is actually something quite fun. Potty training All new puppy parents expect potty training to be on the cards. It will help to remember your Boxer pup is a bit of a goofball. For now, we definitely want to let your pup get used to you and settle into their new home. Teach your puppy about surfaces — Different surfaces can feel strange to pups. Use surfaces like grass, moss, paving and sand. Basically, make their tail wag and we bet yours will too. Teach your Boxer their name. Teach your Boxer puppy to sit. Remember what we said about Boxers and their jumping? Recall — Trust us. Preventing resource guarding Resource guarding is where your dog fiercely protects something they have and will do everything they can to keep hold of it. Dogs can resource guard food, a toy, even a person. You can do this by teaching them that hands and touch can be a good thing. As always, back up your soft touches with some treats. Remember that consent is also a thing with dogs! Never force your Boxer to be handled or pick them up against their wishes. Boxer Dogs are great family pets. They can often be referred to as the clown of dogs because of their joyful personality and clumsy behaviour, which can be very entertaining! They are a loyal companion and make great guard dogs, alerting their owners of anyone who approaches the property. Also, they tend to love affection from people they meet, including children, and enjoy an energetic run around with other dogs they come across! However, as with all breeds of dogs, Boxer Dog training from a young age is important. Boxer Dogs are a clever breed and can be quite trainable once you find the right reward to motivate them. The pros of this breed could go on forever. They really are amazing dogs. However, one of the main things people need to consider with this breed is their high energy levels! If you do not have a particularly active lifestyle then the Boxer Dog may not be the right breed for you. Boxers are highly energetic and require lots of exercise and mental stimulation throughout the day. If you are unable to dedicate time to put into exercising your Boxer Dog or finding ways to give mental stimulation, then you will find it exceedingly difficult to train and get along well with your dog. They also hold a reputation for being stubborn. This can cause problems for when you are trying to get them to do something. You need to have a lot of patience and persistence for Boxer puppy training. They are quick learners but you have to get through that stubbornness first in order to train them really well. Boxer Dogs are really energetic! Many people worry that training their new dog is going to be hard. Here are our top 10 tips for training Boxer Dogs to help you along your way… Make sure to exercise before training Boxers are an energetic breed and can become distracted easily. To help focus their attention on to you, exercise them before a training session. Discover what your dog likes When starting your Boxer puppy training, rewards are crucial. Every Boxer Dog is different and, as a result, they will all be motivated by different rewards. For example, some prefer treats and some prefer toys. You need to find out what your dog prefers and use that as a reward. If your dog likes treats, find their favourite treat. If your dog likes toys, find their favourite game. You can use these as rewards for good behaviour, which will make training sessions far easier! Reward Accordingly Depending on the exercise you and your dog are doing, you need to reward accordingly when it comes to Boxer Dog training. For example, if you are training your dog to walk to heel down the road, it may not be a good idea to reward your dog with a game of fetch. Focus on the good stuff Even though your Boxer may exhibit unwanted behaviour sometimes, you still need to focus on the good behaviour. As we said before, Boxer Dogs are stubborn, so reward their good behaviour and you will motivate them to do it more. The more you reward the good behaviour, the more likely it is that it will happen again. Motivation This is a similar point when it comes to Boxer Dog training. Boxers are known to be stubborn, but if we motivate them then they are more likely to do what we ask them to do. Using their favourite treats and other rewards is the best way to do this. So, we need to structure regular play times in for them. Dogs naturally want to play in the evening after their meal. You may notice that at some point in the evening they get a surge of energy and bounce around and want to play. This is a good time to play with them. One, two, three, and go Boxers are a very sociable breed and often get caught up with wanting to play with other dogs. To help with Boxer Dog training and for them to understand that they do not have to stay and play with every dog, you can teach them the 3-second rule. The rule is they can only meet for three seconds and then they are called away. This allows them a brief amount of time to say hello and then come back to you. If you do this enough, you will condition your dog to say hello and then walk on, making your walks a lot less hassle! Change Direction Boxers can be quite excitable when taking them out for walks and they may pull on the lead. To help combat this, you can change direction every time your Boxer Dog walks in front of you. This key point in Boxer dog training will teach them to follow you. And, if you reward them when they are well behaved and next to you, they will learn that they will get treats when they are beside you. Consistency is key It is very important to be consistent with the rules you are setting in place when it comes to Boxer puppy training. If you do not want your dog on the sofa but someone else allows it, then you will confuse your dog. Everyone in the household has to be reading off the same page in order for your dog to understand what it is you want from them. Set clear rules, and make sure everyone sticks to them! Learning to settle Teaching your dog to settle and relax is important for them so that not only can they unwind and relax, but they also understand how they should behave when you have visitors. This is when your dog lays down but rocks their hips over to one side. When your dog is in this position you can reward them and pair it with the word settle. If you wanted to take it a step further you can teach them to do this in their bed. Taking the time to teach them this key skill will really help the harmony in your home! Want to find out more about what we can do to help you and your dog? Bookmark Boxers are the sixth most popular breed of dog in the United States. Training should be started as soon as possible with Boxer pups. Among the wide range of dog breeds, Boxers are known to be one of the most trustworthy and intelligent. Their suspicion of strangers, alertness, agility, and strength make them formidable guard dogs. Because of their sturdiness and robust personality, they have been employed occasionally on police and military operations. These strong and intelligent animals have also been used as service dogs, guide dogs for the blind, and therapy dogs. These canines have interesting traits, in spite of their menacing appearance, that make them easy to take care of and a wonderful family favorite. It is essential to make yourself aware of the type of dog that you are going to handle, as well as the right time to start training your puppy. Ideally, Boxer training is not initiated until the Boxer pup turns three weeks old. During this period, he is able to learn how to obey simple commands which will make the upcoming training more effective. Furthermore, Boxer owners must know the various characteristics that this type of canine possesses. The character of the Boxer is of the greatest importance and demands great attention. Boxers are renowned for their great love and faithfulness to their master and households. They are harmless in the family, but distrustful of strangers; bright and friendly at play, but brave and determined when aroused. The Boxer's intelligence and willing tractability, its modesty, and cleanliness make it a highly desirable family dog and cheerful companion. This breed is extremely loyal, and is never mean or treacherous even in its old age. However, you must keep an eye on the precipitating factors for his anguish when it does appear and find out the reason for his unpleasant behavior right away, so that his frustration does not become part of his personality. TIP 2: Socialization is vital. Boxer dogs need interaction during the entire training process. Boxer puppies, in general, love to fool around, be with other human beings, and need some form of recreation. If integrated into the training environment, your dog will grow up more responsible. Boxers do not like being loners. They need to socialize with others just like humans. If not properly socialized or interacted with on a regular basis, Boxer aggression problems such as biting, chasing and barking loudly might arise unexpectedly and be difficult to correct. TIP 3: Providing regular exercise is absolutely essential. Boxer training should also include having your dog perform exercises. It can be a kind of sport or any outdoor activity. The key is to keep him active and agile, which helps him manage his energy levels when indoors. This exercise can be anything from a nice afternoon walk to playing a sport with him such as tossing a ball or frisbee. Boxers enjoy moving around, frolicking, and playing for hours. More movement means more strength and vigor for your dog. TIP 4: You are the alpha dog! During Boxer training you get to assume the role of a leader. It is imperative that your dog always treat you as his master and have no control over you. Make yourself the Alpha dog, especially during leash training. Leaders should be strict and dominant especially when setting rules. You must have the power over him and not allow him to overtake you. Adhering to this strict regimen until your dog fully learns and understands what behavior is acceptable and required will be worthwhile when taking him for a walk or to a dog park for exercise. Want to learn how to save on veterinary care? Click here TIP 5: Use a reward system. If your Boxer has been conforming well to the rules you have taught him during training, praise him often. Positive reinforcement is also an important element in Boxer leash training. You may give him his favorite bite-sized treat for being a good dog. Foods, toys, and telling him "Good job! Just as important as praise is remembering that if he misbehaves, you should just correct him and not punish. Punishing him violently or excessively may trigger Boxer aggression problems in the form of biting and scratching. The whole idea here is to repay him for his excellence and to reprimand in a firm but friendly manner. TIP 6: Whenever possible, spend extra time with your Boxer, beyond the training sessions. Some owners who do Boxer training might not appreciate the significance of the amount of time shared with their dogs. Insure that you allot time for your pup beyond the training to reassure him you love him and that he is your friend and companion and member of the family. Keeping your dog company is one way to bring your relationship with him to the next level, as well as increasing the success of the training. Avoid letting him feel unwanted or neglected. TIP 7: Teach your Boxer basic tricks. In Boxer training, teaching your dog a new skill is also important. As he learns a trick or two, it will not only impress friends and family, but also helps to increase your dog's mental development and obtain his trust easier. Sit, stand, roll, and kneel are a few examples of basic tricks you can teach your canine. These tricks just need patience and perseverance and he will grow into a very clever dog. TIP 8: Visit your veterinarian for help when needed. Certain problems may come up while training your Boxer. In this case, seek help from your vet for experts in your area familiar with this particular breed. Some of the issues such as proper crate training, ways to prevent Boxer anxiety and how to keep him from jumping on other people might require some extra help. The greatest tip for training your Boxer will be to approach him with patience, persistence and lots of love. Your Boxer will become a remarkably well trained dog, and a wonderful member of your family. Ready to start saving money on pet wellness care? Bishop hails from the streets of the south, where he was trying to make it on his own and chasing the wrong type of dames. However, his life took a turn when he ended up in a scary place called "The Shelter. Bishop weighs around 55 pounds, and he wants the ladies to know that it's all muscle. But don't let his muscles fool you, he's as sweet as sugar and listens better than most men. He has a mix of boxer, lab, and pitbull in him, but his handsome looks mostly come from his pitbull side. And yes, the ladies love his guns! Unfortunately, Bishop's previous foster home had cats, and they didn't get along well. So, he's currently back in boarding, where he enjoys the company of other dogs and a kind lady who takes him for walks and plays ball with him. Bishop absolutely loves his toys and chasing balls. He can get a bit "mouthy" when teased with toys, but he redirects nicely. He enjoys going for walks, but if he spots a bird, rabbit, or squirrel, he's off like Richard Simmons in a workout video. However, he responds well to correction. Bishop is a goofball who doesn't take much seriously, except for treats. Treats are serious business to him, and he'll do just about anything for one. He loves peanut butter in his kabobs but avoids rawhide to maintain his playboy figure. With his big smile and awesome personality, Bishop hopes to find his forever home. He's fully vetted, which means he's had his shots and is neutered. He is currently undergoing treatment for heartworms using a method called Slow Kill. Bishop is an easygoing, sweet, smart, happy, cuddly, and laid-back dude. He loves exercising, playing catch, and chasing balls, but he also enjoys relaxing and taking naps. He would be more than happy to lounge around in bed and watch TV with his humans. A perfect day for Bishop would involve the three C's: chasing balls , catch, and chill. He simply wants a best friend, someone to love him and give him the attention he deserves. A house would be preferable to an apartment, but he's open to trying out apartment life if it's a good fit. Bishop is currently in training now and is available for adoption or foster. To learn more about him and start the adoption process, reach outr to us. Wecan provide you with Bishop's portfolio and an application for his forever home. Bishop can't wait to give you wet kisses and steal all your blankets. With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Here at Frenchie Kisses Kennel you will not find "a breeder. We maintain a small Hobby program and breed for quality, rather than quantity. This ensures that you get a puppy that is healthy, beautiful, and has a great temperament. It is very convenient being close to Portland, Oregon because it makes for a nice day trip for our adoptive families in the Portland area to visit their puppy regularly as it grows. Since My son and Daughter In Law work at home we are able to spend time both indoors and outdoors with all of the animals. However, French Bulldogs are more suited for indoor living as opposed to outdoors. We do like to bring them out when the weather is moderate. At Frenchie Kisses Kennel we keep a close watch on the dogs as we wander about and if they seem a bit tired we simply return them to our air conditioned or heated in the winter home. Luckily the weather here in Washington State does not have horrible extremes so air conditioning and a good wood stove keeps their life very comfortable. French Bulldogs overheat easily because of their overly large chest and compacted air way, along with their insistence on being active. Their bulk and being Brachycephalic makes it impossible for them to regulate their temperature efficiently. In addition, Frenchies are top heavy and therefore have a difficult time swimming. We are very cautious when exercising them during hot or humid weather, and at times must insist they take a break. Though they tend to love the water, they must not be left alone in water as they may not be able to get out after exhausting themselves trying to swim. French Bulldogs are known as non swimmers. That's not to say that they are dogs of little brain. It's more like their "can do," can't keep up with their "want to. We love that the dogs want to be with us, very close by when we are walking around on the property. Washington is Cougar country and we would not want them to wander far so we do keep a close watch on them when we have them out. They all tend to get along with the cats and we are working hard to convince them that all animals are our friends. Since the Frenchies are so rambunctious it is hard to convince all of our pets that they are sweet, friendly dogs. I have my mind set that all my pets are going to get along and I am hoping that my will is stronger than a Bulldog! The puppies are exposed to the cats at a young age to instill a respect for other animals. Our cats are everywhere we now have five the puppies can have access to. We also have volunteer feral cats, that we are pretty sure come from a catch and release program in our area as they just appear with ears notched and previously spayed or neutered. The puppies only meet one of them He has become an outside pet only does not like to be confined kitty and occasionally comes to the door to see what is going on. He is friendly with the dogs and puppies. Three of our cats are both indoors and outdoors so the puppies learn early on that cats are their friends. We now have three Chickens that wander the property during the day. We hope to also use them to condition the puppies to being comfortable with birds. This makes for very sweet gentle puppies as they mature. We are also able to care for them individually if they become sick and give them excellent medical attention. We have a wonderful vet who has taught us how to do much of the necessary medical care at home since we are 45 minutes from any Veterinarian. Sometimes without the training he has provided us we would lose puppies due to no access to immediate care. We can and do give mouth to mouth resuscitation if needed. We will do anything necessary to save a puppy or dog. We love them for the wonderful little family additions that they are. We now offer training packages for our puppies: Child Tolerance. Be mindful of the first few days The next thing would be to prepare yourself for the next few days. Remember, all young dogs form a bond with their family and a previous owner. Thus, separating a two-month-old Frenchie can be stressful not only to you but primarily to your pet. Whatever the breed, they still pack animals, meaning they need their parents to survive in the first few months. The separation from their parents can mean danger. Thus, it would be best to prepare yourself for nights of whining, howling, squealing, and restlessness. The first few nights might be truly tough. Still, try your best to hold on and put the puppy in a place where it will not feel alone. It would also be best if you make a schedule with your family for the first few days. You can decide who among your family will play with the puppy. Giving the pup plenty of attention will relieve the separation anxiety and make the housebreaking process much more efficient. Make the ride home comfy If you took your Frenchie home through a car ride, it would be best to make it as comfortable as possible. In short, it would be best to have someone to accompany your pet instead of leaving it in a crate or alone in the backseat. Getting a health check If possible, it would be best to have your vet examine the puppy while still with the breeder. This way, you can make sure the pup is healthy. For this reason, always make sure you remember and follow all instructions. This way, you can take care of your pet easier. Choosing a Good French Bulldog Seller and Breeder While all French Bulldog pups are excellent pets, you can still go wrong if you choose the wrong breeder. If you want the best care and support for your pup, you also need to find a reputable breeder. In general, you can take these things as your guide in finding the right breeder: A reputable breeder will show all paperwork A reputable breeder would be proud to show all the paperwork it has for your pup. It includes the pedigree and health clearances. Thus, it will ask all kinds of questions. Thus, it breeds pups but not much and lets the parents rest and not mate all the time. A reputable breeder will provide you with feedback from other customers A reputable breeder would be proud to show the feedback and experiences of other customers. In fact, he or she will even show a connection to other breeders and vets. A reputable breeder would show his or her breeding experience. A reputable breeder would show the dogs in recognized confirmation shows. Further, he or she should have strong connections with other breeders. A reputable breeder only breeds a single type A reputable breeder shows its expertise if they focus only on a single breed and not multiple ones. Other states. Breeds The link has been copied! However, the Border Collie Golden Retriever mix has a lot to offer as a pet. It can always be a little interesting to see what you get when mixing two dog breeds. Border Collies are mostly black and white, though there can be other colors. Goldens vary in color from light yellow to deep gold or red. The cross, sometimes called the Coltriever can be any color ranging from black and white to yellow, golden, brown, deep chocolate, or red. The best way to understand a designer dog breed a mix of two purebreds is to take a closer look at its parent breeds. As you might expect, they were used extensively for herding sheep over generations in this area. Eventually, they developed into excellent working dogs known for their intelligence, energy, and obedience. In fact, Border Collies have topped the list when it comes to ranking the smartest dog breeds. Border Collies are medium to large size dogs standing inches at the shoulder and weighing about pounds. They were made to work and require a job or at least lots of exercise and mental stimulation to be calm and happy. The Loving Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever has long been popular as a family dog in addition to being used for various jobs. Their affectionate personalities and loving attitude toward everyone they encounter are downright endearing. Interestingly, Golden Retrievers were originally developed for work. They are also from Scotland and are the result of the work of Lord Dudley Marjorbanks. He worked to produce an intelligent, hard-working dog from the extinct Tweed Water Spaniel and the Yellow Retriever. Golden Retrievers are pretty big, usually standing between inches tall and weighing up to 75 pounds. They are typically golden in color, but the shade can range from quite pale to a deep gold or red hue. However, the Golden Collie tends to be a larger dog, standing between inches and weighing pounds. Surprisingly for such a large dog, Coltrievers can handle living in small homes or even apartments — with proper exercise, of course. As descendants of the highly energetic Border Collie, these guys will go nuts if they are cooped up for too long! Goldens are famous for their easy-going, loving personalities. They are loyal, develop strong bonds with their families, and make wonderful playmates for children. As with any dog, it is important to meet their needs for mental stimulation and physical exercise. Because of their smarts, they may need more mental stimulation than other breeds but there are a lot of activities that count. Playing with the kids, puzzle games , fetch, swimming, jogging, hiking , and so much more make these pups super happy! The last section gives you a big hint — yes, Golden Border Retrievers make excellent family dogs. Because they need so much attention, it can be hard for a single person or even a couple who work outside the home to provide enough interaction for the dog. But you put a whole family in the house and that Golden Border Retriever is in heaven! They will happily play with your kids and will be gentle and loving. They will always let you know when a stranger is coming to visit! Everybody wants a well-behaved dog and it takes time and patience to achieve that. However, some dogs are easier to train than others. For busy families that may not have tons of time to dedicate to dog training, easy trainability is a big plus. Well, the Golden Border Retriever is a great choice. They can get themselves into trouble if they are bored, so plenty of mental stimulation and exercise is a must — or your furniture could pay the price. If you like the idea of a dog that can learn lots of cool and unusual tricks, this is a great dog to pick. They are also great dogs for competing in agility and other canine sports. Outside the home, Golden Border Retrievers are fantastic for use in a variety of jobs. Their smarts and obedience make them easy to use for herding, retrieving, and everything in between. But one thing is certain, they have a lot of hair and will shed frequently. Because these dogs are certainly not it. To keep their coats somewhat under control, expect to brush their hair at least once a week. Baths only need to happen about once or twice a month. Be careful not to bathe too frequently or their skin can dry out. And make sure to keep those floppy ears clean and dry to help avoid ear infections. Just as with humans, it depends on their age, size, activity level, and other factors. Adjust accordingly if you notice they are getting thinner or putting on more weight. For exercise, remember these guys are quite the energetic pups! It is best to provide your pup with at least 90 minutes of vigorous exercise daily. Though if your schedule allows, these pups will happily go strong for minutes a day and still race you to the front door! Health Concerns for the Golden Retriever and Border Collie Unfortunately, all dogs can get sick, regardless of their breed. That may be somewhat true for the breed as a whole, but individual dogs could also be susceptible to the health problems of both their parent breeds. For Coltrievers, this means they can be plagued by the health problems of both the Border Collie and the Golden Retriever. Both dog breeds are susceptible to bloat and allergies. Elbow and hip dysplasia are also common and may be passed on to their designer dog offspring. Border Collies can pass on progressive retinal atrophy and collie eye anomaly. Both of these conditions can cause loss of eyesight if not treated. Deafness and epilepsy are also common issues. Golden Retrievers contribute heart problems, other eye conditions like pigmentary uveitis, and, unfortunately, cancer. All in all, Golden Border Retrievers are generally healthy dogs and can be expected to live a long life with proper care. The average life expectancy of the crossbreed is around years. Breeders love the idea of mixing their intelligence and obedience with the looks or other characteristics of different dog breeds. Thus, there are quite a few options for Border Collie crossbreeds to choose from. The Border Aussie is very similar to the Border Collie in smarts and personality. Plus, this dog is smarter than the average toddler, so watch out and get ready to teach him lots of tricks! The Border Collie Chihuahua mix is a designer dog breed that has become quite famous in the last few years. That's because these dogs are smart, playful, and active. They also make great pets for people who live in small apartments or homes. The Border Collie German Shepherd mix , also known as the Shollie, is a unique and intelligent breed that combines the workaholic nature of the Border Collie with the protective instincts of the German Shepherd. These dogs are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and versatility, and they excel in a wide range of activities, from herding to search and rescue. A Bordoodle is a great option. With the right mix, the Poodle contributes a slightly curly, low-shed coat. The Golden Border Collie makes a fabulous companion for the right family. They can be content in an apartment or small home, but only if you have the time and energy to exercise them daily. They need to run at the local dog park, go on a hike, explore new areas, or participate in agility or other canine sports to get enough exercise. For this reason, they can be a better option if you have a house with a sizeable yard or live on a farm. If you have kids, these are great dogs to consider. They make loving and playful companions and your dog and the kids will help tire each other out. They may try to herd people around, which can be intimating for small children, but gentle correction usually takes care of that quite easily. These guys crave attention and love companionship so they will get lonely and anxious on their own for more than 6 hours every day. They are friendly and loving, even with strangers, so you can have guests over without worrying about your dog being suspicious or aloof. All in all, the Golden Border Retriever is a wonderful companion dog for active families. Find more helpful articles on pet-parenting at the Off Leash blog at TryFi. Their obedience is quickly reflected through their affectionate and friendly nature, thus making them good with kids. Though some Gollies might tend to be shy, they are highly sociable, being in a jovial mood most of the time. Hence, they do not do well when kept alone for extended periods. Some dog enthusiasts think that so much of cheerfulness in their character failed to make them a good guardian. This assumption, however, is not correct, since their alertness is readily apprehensible from their barking instinct. Gollies are very active and responsive, making for excellent watchdogs. They would start to bark the moment they come across a stranger around and alert their family members about the same. Care Exercise These canids need regular exercise to burn down their calories. Take them out on a walk or jog on a routine basis to channelize their energy positively. Let them play in an enclosed yard if you have one. A total of around 90 minutes of daily physical activities is enough for this breed. Grooming The coat of the Golden Collie is average to long, and their shedding is moderate to high. For this, they need high maintenance, especially if your dog is double-coated, having a long and rough outer coat with a soft undercoat. Brush them regularly, at least times a week, so as to keep their coat smooth and glossy. Regular brushing also promotes blood flow and enhances hair growth. Hence, it is better to consult your breeder about the health history of its parents. Interactive toys that make sounds or dispense treats would give your dog the incentive to work harder. Try frozen Kong toys stuffed with peanut butter. This trick should work. To prevent your dog from being overly excited when your guests come in, teach him to display a controlled behavior when the doorbell rings. Ask your puppy to sit close to the door, and press the doorbell, holding a treat in your hand. If your puppy starts to show any sign of excitement, go close to it and ask it to calm down, showing the gift, but do not give it away. Next, repeat the process and do the same, if your dog shows any sign of excitement. Give the treat as it obeys you and sits down calmly. Doing this activity from time to time would help your dog will learn to put a check to its overly wild behavior as well as refrain from incessant barking habits. Lifespan Sociability Given how well-known its parent breeds are, you may think that you already understand everything about Golden Border Retrievers—and you might be right. If you value your lawn or garden, this dog may not be right for you. They love everyone and everything, although they may be a bit shy around strangers. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Protein burns more slowly than carbs do, so your pup will have plenty of energy to stay active all day long. The primary ingredients to watch out for in a kibble are cheap fillers like corn, wheat, and soy. These are packed with empty calories and can cause digestive issues in some dogs. Instead, look for high-quality fruits and veggies. These dogs fail to see the appeal of an afternoon spent in front of the television. They need exercise—a great deal of it. These brainy pups love to be challenged, so obedience training, agility work, and puzzles are all likely to go over well with one of these pooches. Their big brains can quickly figure out what you want them to do, and they love to make you happy. As noted above, these dogs have destructive tendencies that need to be curbed, and they need proper socialization if you expect them to have good manners in public. A minimum of 30 minutes of exercise per day, which includes either an outdoor walk or an indoor play, would suffice. When staying outdoors during the summer months, make sure your Pug Shih Tzu does not overexert himself too much under the sun since this hybrid is very sensitive to heat. Indoor activities are always welcome on these days. The Shih Tzu Pug mix can live quite happily in small spaces, so they are perfect for small apartment living as long as you make sure they still get their adequate need of short walks and lots of playtimes. They are always willing and enthusiastic to learn new tricks, although there are times that they can be stubborn. Be gentle but firm in training your Pug Shih Tzu pup. You should know that you are going to have a very dependent dog when you choose this mix. Your Pug Zu will do everything in their power to get attention and they will always be by your side. Your Pug Zu will make friends with your other pets, even cats, and they are small, so it will be fine with children. They love getting attention and have playful, positive personalities and make great companions. Usually, these dogs are curious, fun-loving and even-tempered. They love everyone, they might be happy to lead any intruder into your house. Are These Dogs Good for Families? The result is a family companion with a sweet nature. Buy high-quality food so that they get the nutrition that they need. You can do this as playtime or as a walk. One thing to know is that your Pug Zu is heat sensitive, and they will get overexerted easily in a hot climate. Because of this, you want to start training early. This may make them fear you. This hybrid loves food and is going to eagerly respond to treats. This is going to help during your training. You also want to socialize him early. Socializing them early will help with reducing fearfulness, anxiety and other possible behaviors. You also want to add some activities that will stimulate him mentally to his training. These can be things like puzzles or games. This will help keep your Pug Zu from becoming bored and to improve his social interaction. If your Pug Zu has a long coat, you will need to brush it daily since it can tangle easily. If you have a Pug Zu with a shorter coat, the maintenance will be easier. When Your Pug-Zu should be bathed only when necessary and with dog shampoo so as not to impact his natural oils. You also may have allergies , different infections, joint problems, dental concerns, and problems with hot climates. Minor Conditions. Temperament: Friendly, stubborn and playful. Pugs are known for their wrinkly squished face, curled tail and sturdy body. Shih Tzus tend to look very different. They are often shorter, with wide bodies and longer fur. They also possess a squished face, but it is not wrinkly like that of the Pug. Expect your mix to have a sturdy body with long legs, and the smushed face of a Shih Tzu. Their tail can be either curly or straight, but tends to curve over their backs. Coat and Colors The Pug Shih Tzu mix comes in a range of different colors, including black, white, fawn, brindle and brown. Brown and brindle tend to be the most common, and white markings are very common with these dogs. Their coat is long and will need regular trimming as it does continue to grow. It is straight in texture and soft to the touch — this means that it is prone to tangling, so daily brushing is a must for this breed. Height and Weight These dogs tend to be on the sturdier side, weighing between pounds and ranging in height from inches. However just like most mixed breeds, their size can vary and can occasionally be out of these ranges. Known for their love of children, these dogs make a great choice for families with young kids. Pug Shih Tzu mixes are perfect for apartment living. They do not tolerate the heat very well. Both parent breeds are ancient breeds that are over years old. Shih Tzus are known for being confident and hard headed, whilst Pugs are known for their easy going, good natured temperament. As a result the Pug Shih Tzu mix is known for having a well balanced temperament and gets along well with everyone and everything. They little dogs just love to play especially with you , so make sure that you set aside time each day to play games with them. Also make sure to provide plenty of toys for them — tugs, squeaky toys and balls tend to be some of their favorites. A quick walk around the block with some play time in the backyard or even inside is enough for this dog. More than anything the Pug Shih Tzu mix is a couch potato and just wants to cuddle with you on the couch. They love to be with their owners so much they suffer from separation anxiety. So if you are going to be away for long hours, having someone stop by to take them for a walk can help to curb the anxiety. One of the downsides is this breed can be very headstrong which can make training difficult more on this later. The good news though is they are not big barkers. They will bark to alert to someone at the door or something out of place, but other than that they tend to be very quiet. This makes them a great option for apartment living. The Pug Shih Tzu mix makes an amazing family dog. They love to play with children and get very excited, just make sure they play gently! They do not require a lot of physical or mental stimulation and do well in most homes. This breed is also excellent for first time dog owners, or even families with children. The biggest care commitment with this dog is their grooming and maintenance. Exercise Requirements A short walk around the block with a few minutes of play at home is plenty for this breed. In general the Pug Shih Tzu mix is a fairly lazy breed, so you do not have to put a lot of running or walking time into them. If you are looking for a hiking companion, this is not the dog for you. This breed should always be walked on leash or in a fenced-in area. These dogs have a tendency to wander and are not very good with recalls, so keeping them on a leash is best for their safety. Number of Walks Per Day: 1. Total Exercise Needed Per Day: 30 minutes. Grooming and Shedding The most intensive part of caring for a Pug-Zu is the grooming. Although the Shih Tzu is considered hypoallergenic, this trait does not always carry over into the Shih Tzu Pug mix. Daily brushing is needed to prevent their coat from tangles. Your dog will need to visit the groomer about every six weeks for a trim. Keep baths to a minimum as this can dry their skin out. Small dogs are also prone to dental issues, so make sure their teeth are brushed one to two times a week. Another thing that you will need to do is clean out their ears weekly to avoid infection. With little planning ahead you could get reimbursed for every vet bill from now on! Feeding and Diet This mix should be fed kibble specifically designed for small dogs — they do not need anything super high in protein. As a puppy it is best to feed them three times a day. Once fully grown switching to two meals a day will work. Remember these dogs are prone to obesity, so make sure not to free fed them or give them lots of of snacks. These dogs can live anywhere from years old. How to Train a Pug Shih Tzu Mix While training this dog you should remember that these dogs are highly food motivated. So using a combination of positive reinforcement and rewarding good behavior is the best method of dog training for them. However these mixes are known for being very stubborn and sometimes hard-headed, so repetition and patience is needed. The best way to avoid this stubbornness is to only train in small bursts of about ten to fifteen minutes — this keeps your dog from getting too exhausted. It is important to lay down rules with them from an early age to make sure that they are well behaved when they are older. Socialization is extremely important as a puppy to ensure they become a well-rounded adult. In general they are known for being very well behaved with children, other dogs and pets. They love strangers so do not expect them to ever be a good watch dog. Fortunately this little dog does not need a lot of mental stimulation. Just some basic obedience training is needed to make sure that your dog listens as they grow older. You can also come up with fun games to play with them. These dogs love almost any game that you can come up with — fetch, tug, you name it, these playful dogs will love it. Scientists prove, that they came from crossing Lhasa Apso with Pekingese. This is definitely not the only case of dog crossing, though it yielded very good results. Currently, Shih Tzu are one of the most popular dog breeds that exist. Nonetheless, people still try to once again cross Shih Tzu with other dogs, such as pugs. And that is definitely a very interesting combination, and here you will read why. If you are planning on crossing 2 of those dog breeds, first we recommend you to research more into this subject. Pugs and Shih Tzu While pugs are very happy and humble, loyal and royal dogs with a very interesting appearance, that for a very long time lived on the side of European royal families for more than 2 centuries, Shih Tzu are quite the opposite. Not only the fact, that they appeared on the completely different part of our world in China , but also they have much more hair, a very social animal. They are never loyal to only one person — they always spread the love to everyone. They are very alert — to the point, where they would wake up from the deepest sleep just to follow their owner. And if you combine the 2 breeds, you will get something very spectacular and unique. Pug Tzu Pug Tzu combine the behavior of both dog breeds in a single one, although in a smaller margin. Thus, Pug Tzu are pretty happy, social and humble, alert and intelligent, while having a lot of hair as opposed to an original Pug. They are larger than Shih Tzu, but smaller than Pugs. They combine the loyalty and the friendliness of both the parents, which makes the Pug Tzu as great of a companion, as normal Shih Tzu are. The only relatively bad thing is the fact, that you have to take care of their dense and long hair daily, otherwise it will get dirty and unpleasant, not even speaking about the fleas that might appear. Average Size Pug Tzu are quite small, thanks to their parent dogs being similarly tiny. On average, the maximum height is around 28 cm 11 inches , and the weight varies at around 5 to 9 kg 10 to 18lbs. Though they are very miniature and may look decorative, it is really not the case. Though you still should walk them from time to time. Activity and Training As stated earlier, the Pug Tzu combines traits from both the parents, but on a lower scale. When Shih Tzu are very active and require to be walked quite often, Pugs are a very opposite. So, in the end, you get a dog with a moderate need for park-walking and such. On the other hand, Pug Tzu are much easier to train than Shih Tzu. This is because they are a lot less stubborn than the said Shih Tzu. Life Expectancy And finally, Pug Tzu life expectancy is an average between the high expectancy of Pugs, and relatively low one of Shih Tzu. So, the final number is around 12 to 13 years. This may seriously vary from one dog to another, and depends on the environment, the amount and quality of care, the parents and illnesses, the last factor being sometimes quite unpredictable to say the least. Even though, this number is quite good, and it is considered the all-time average for small dog breeds. Thank you for reading, and we wish you success in crossing Pugs with Shih Tzu. Pug Zus are excellent for first-time dog parents as they are playful and friendly, and they are also known for their low aggressive tendencies. Moreover, they are great with kids, which means that they make the perfect pets for families. Some can be the result of multi-generation crosses. What do they look like? In general, Pug Zus have brown eyes and black noses, and a mask on their faces is quite common. They can have a wide variety of coat colors, such as black, white, brown, brindle, or fawn. Some hybrids can look like their Pug side more than their Shih Tzu side and the other way around. Most are equipped with triangular ears that flop down and that are well-spaced apart. This small breed is known for its robust body, which can make the dogs give off the impression that they are sturdier than they really are. Their short limbs might bow at an angle. Pug-Zus look very similar to another popular Shih Tzu mix, the Shichon. This affectionate and funny companion dog weighs in at around 8 to 22 pounds and measures anything between 8 and 12 inches. Do Pug Tzus Shed? The amount of shedding that you can expect if you become a Pug Tzu parent is variable. As previously mentioned, some dogs might have a shorter or a longer coat, and this can directly influence how much they shed. In any case you should take care to brush your dog regularly as well as wash him with a gentle shampoo. Consider using clippers to keep him in a short haircut. What Is the temperament of a Pug Shih Tzu mix? Pug Zus are very sociable, and even if the puppies do have to be socialized as early as possible in order for them to become used to other animals and people, they thrive on human interaction. Pug Zus also tend to suffer from separation anxiety. However headstrong they might seem at times, Pug Shih Tzu mixes respond well to training, especially if they have set routines in place. It is recommended that their owners set up short training sessions that last for up to ten minutes at a time every day. Positive reinforcement and treats will convince your Pug Shih Tzu puppy to behave. How long does a Pug and Shih Tzu mix live? The typical lifespan of a Pug Zu is anything between 9 and 12 to 14 years. How Healthy is this mix? Some of the most common health conditions that a Pug Zu is likely of developing throughout their life are the following: Patellar luxation Some Pug Shih Tzu mix owners might notice that their puppy skips a step every now and then. If this happens, veterinary assistance is required as many Pug Zus can develop patellar luxation, or it can be a genetic issue that they are prone to. Treating this health issue depends on its severity. Hip dysplasia This dog breed is more or less likely to develop hip dysplasia due to the genetic material coming from their Pug side. There is a high possibility that a parent that has hip dysplasia passes it on to its offspring. Skin health problems A Pug Shih Tzu mix can develop several skin conditions, and two of the most common ones are allergies and atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis can be caused by a number of factors that range from dog food to grass. Epilepsy Idiopathic epilepsy can affect some dogs, but not all. If your dog experiences a seizure, immediate veterinary care is necessary. Documenting the seizure might also be required in order for the veterinarian to establish just what type of epilepsy the dog is suffering from. All of these diseases are more or less typical for small-sized dogs. Due to their anatomy, Pug Zus also tend to develop respiratory problems, including sinus infections. Other health issues that can affect this breed are yeast infections, staph infections, and demodectic mange. Some puppies can experience vaccination sensitivity. Make sure to talk to your veterinarian about preventive care and take your dog to the vet clinic for check-ups at least once or twice a year. Furthermore, as they grow old, Pug Zus are known to develop the typical diseases of geriatric dogs, such as arthritis, heart conditions, and even cancer. Regular blood tests and other diagnostic methods can ensure that these health problems are prevented or treated at the right time before they become more severe. How Much is a Pug Shih Tzu? The cost of a Pug Zu puppy can vary a lot depending on several factors. We recommend getting your puppy from a breeder whose reputation is excellent. The Pug Zu can be considered an excellent companion dog. It adapts well to new environments and new people, and it is not particularly challenging to train, either. Motivating your Pug Tzu with treats is easy as this dog breed loves food. In terms of activity levels, you will notice that your Pug Shih Tzu mix does love spending time outdoors and playing fetch, for example. However, compared to many other breeds, it can do well with daily walks that last up to one hour on the whole. If what you are after is a good watchdog, a Pug Zu might not be the best dog breed for you. These dogs are known for being so friendly that they can even take well to strangers. Besides, they do not bark in order to get your attention to alert you of an intruder. Due to their trainability, playfulness, and affectionate character, Pug Shih Tzu mixes are among the best canine companions for people who live in apartments. In this respect, a Pug Zu is not a good, but a great dog. Unleash the real potential of your companion! We will email you daily with training tips, ideas and videos. Building a trustworthy, capable, vigorous, and beastly Olde English Bulldogge is my lifestyle. My breeding program permeates my entire life and gives me purpose. Take a look around my site to see the Evolution Bulldogge difference. This is my story. The giant bulldog in the cartoons had a magnificent head, colossal chest, low, broad, heavy, and muscular body! Immediately Bulldogs became a massive fascination for me. The cartoons with bulldogs were by far my favorite. I would become a very excited kiddo each time a bulldog made a television appearance. This fascination grew into an obsession. Unfortunately, my first introduction to a real bulldog was a disappointment mixed with a strange sense of enthusiasm. My friend Mikey had a female English Bulldog at his house. She was tiny, chunky, super cute, and snorty. He showed me that when he nudged her chest with his shoe, she would grip it and snarl in rough play. Her bully mind was incredible, but her body was lacking. I really thought bulldogs were going to be how television portrayed them to children. There had to be something better. I was fifteen years old when I met Mr. Jack, an over-sized English Bulldog stud. I spent hours playing and wrestling around with him. He was a great bulldog, and he was reasonably similar to my giant cartoon bulldog dream. Unfortunately, he was not quite the icon of health or vigor I had hoped for, but I was completely hooked. I made a clear decision. I would become the greatest bulldog breeder in the world. My parents, however, put my dream as a bulldog breeder on hold. Over the next decade and a half, I spent countless hours and days researching genetics, anatomy, physiology, and biology. I was learning how to breed healthy versions of my beloved cartoon image bulldog. In my studies, I realized the English Bulldog is structurally limited in regards to health. I began looking at other bully breeds in an attempt to find a healthy bulldog that matched my vision. For many years my search came up lacking. By the time I reached this earth, bulldogs had become a gross mutation of their former selves. The bulldog of old- the courageous, capable, athletic, powerful bulldogs had long since become extinct. I become less enamored with the English Bulldog breed and more so interested in my image of what I felt a bulldog should be. But I did not Stop Searching. They were local, and the name in the olde tyme spelling piqued my Bulldog curiosity. I called and made an appointment to see what these Olde English Bulldogges were all about. I rushed right over to see this new promise of a better Bulldog. When I arrived, I saw the most superb Bulldog bitch that I had ever seen in my life! Bulldogs only moved that powerfully and quickly in the cartoons! I knew I was onto something with my brand new introduction to the Olde English Bulldogge. The sales pitch that the Olde English Bulldogge was healthy and capable sold me. Traveling around the country, I visited breeders of this amazing new breed and I bought up puppy after puppy. Dog after dog failed health and temperament tests. It quickly became evident that the Olde English Bulldogge breed also suffers from several of the same health issues which plague the English Bulldog. Compelled by obsession, I started all over, In spite of my losses. The lessons were expensive, in addition to well-received. Nevertheless, I searched tirelessly for Olde Bulldogges that would put me within reach of my ultimate goal of a bigger, better bulldog. Taking some significant losses, I realized getting what I wanted would mean creating it myself. Still obsessed with my dream, I kept searching and searching. With a few tastes here and there of what could be, I eventually stumbled upon a few exceptional dogs. As dogs finally started passing health testing, I could move forward. This small handful of quality dogs would lay the foundation for a solid breeding program. I began linebreeding my productions to make great family companion bulldogs that excel at protection. Evolution Bulldogges was born! Fast Forward a Bit… With multiple generations of tested and proven dogs, my main focus is to advance my Bulldogge breeding program consistently. My secondary focus is to help you get just the right Olde English Bulldogge puppy for you. Occasionally I have other puppies available who are not yet listed. When you purchase an Olde Bulldogge puppy from Evolution Bulldogges, you can be sure you are getting the highest quality Bulldogge puppy money can buy. We also seek confirmations to build upon traditions of selective practices. We have done this to ensure the highest quality puppies that will give many healthy years of companionship. Please call us at if you are interested in one of our little ones. About our kennel We have bred in Germany since .We have moved to the US in and are so happy to finally be able to offer our american customers the perfect family dog! We only use breeding dogs of good character, with best test results and a silky soft fur. In fact, a beautiful fur is one of the areas we specialize in. We like the very classic "bulldog" face with a perfect fitting short muzzle rather than just two massive wrinkles and a very small nose between them like some breeders like to breed at them moment. Our dogs are our family members and share our whole house and even the couch with us! Over the years of breeding we met so many aggressive, hyperactive, non-stop barking dogs! We want a cuddly, playful, loveable companion that is friendly to everyone! We are NOT following the newest trends! Because we breed only the type of french bulldog we love! A beautiful head and healthy, correct structure! We are breeding since and are always holding to the highest standards: - All sire and all dams have the best evaluation in all of our health examinations - All puppies are raised right in the middle of our living room! I am constantly stopped on the street and asked about where I got mochi and Zima. They are perfect and deb has been super helpful each step of the way with the process and answered any question I had. Margret C. My 14 yr old English Bulldog, Elliemae, passed away October 14, .I was waiting until the summer of before getting another puppy. At the end of October, I came across Deb's web page. I called her only to get to know her and her breeding program. I told her about the loss of Elliemae and also my mother that past April. She said she had a French Bulldog puppy she thought I would be interested in. I explained that I would be holding off purchasing a puppy until the summer. She sent the picture of this white French bulldog puppy with the "Kiss of God" on the top of her head. Just like Elliemae. It was as if Elliemae and my mother were telling me this puppy is for you. I picked up Dolly the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Dolly has been a joy. She is a wonderful puppy who fills my days with joy. Deb has been wonderful as well. I am afraid I at times I talked her ear off. She is dedicated to breeding the finest French Bulldogs and knows what puppy needs to go with who. She is more than a breeder she is a friend. Thank you, Deb, for matching me up with this gift from my mother. You knew what I needed. Dollylee is an amazing puppy. She slept all through the night from the first night I brought her home. Dollylee seems to know why you sent her to me. Thank You, Deb!! Ron For several years I searched for a reputable French bulldog breeder and finally found Bijou French bulldogs. I knew the minute I finished reading through the website that I would one day purchase a puppy from Deb. We previously had a Frenchie with neurological and other health issues so we learned the hard way how important it is to choose a reputable and knowledgeable breeder. I continued looking at her website from time to time. Then one day Deb posted a breeding that sounded perfect. I got in touch with her and explained the importance to me of finding a breeder that took pride in their breeding program. She answered all of my questions and I was sold. So the deposit was paid and our precious Augie came into our lives. If you are seriously looking for a French bulldog, I strongly encourage you to get in touch with Deb. She will be available to answer your questions and will address any concerns. She has always shown concern and has amazing knowledge and insight about the breed. I know she will always be available for me with any questions I have, big or small. Thank You Deb! Deb understood and remained in contact with us answering questions and offering advice, and when she had the puppy we immediately knew was meant to be ours she continued to update us on progress until Blanche was ready to come home. Deb is very knowledgeable about the breed and her attention to details regarding their health really impressed us. Deb made the entire process seamless, and Blanche is the most perfect little lady. When the time comes to add to our own family we will definitely be calling Deb! I found Deb and from day one, she was always there to answer any questions. She was just a pleasure and always helpful! We purchased and picked up LUlu, our new wonderful addition to our family. She is so smart and has an absolutely amazing disposition. Everywhere I go with her, I get stopped, people always comment that she is the most beautiful frenchie ever even my vet! We cannot wait to get a second frenchie from Deb! Michelle We came across Deb while we were searching for our first frenchie. We contacted Deb and spoke on the phone for about an hour and a half during our first phone call. She was super supportive, informative and incredibly helpful in providing advice. She also asked us questions to make sure we were the right fit and if we would provide a safe environment for the frenchie. We got to meet Uniii through Facetime and we immediately fell in love with him at first sight. We were so impressed with Deb's knowledge about this breed, her love and passion for each and everyone of them. Whenever we had questions, Deb would answer back right away and would give us tips which has helped us tremendously. When we take Uniii out and about, people are always so impressed with how calm and good temperament he is. Uniii is super friendly and loves to be around people. He loves learning new tricks, in fact, he is so smart that I was able to teach him basic commands like 'paw' and 'sit' at 6 months. He is so easy, mellow and chill to take care of, that we are thinking of getting him another sibling for him. It will definitely be through Deb again. Thank you so much to Bijou French Bulldogs for providing us with our very first frenchie fur baby. Feel free to follow our pup on IG as well and reach out if you have any questions uniiiboiii Venus As first time dog owners, we did a lot of research before settling on a breeder. When we came across Bijou French Bulldogs and spoke to Deb, we knew we found the one. We could have gone with a number of breeders much closer to home but the decision to go the distance was extremely worth it! Deb's knowledge of the breed, care for the animals, and beautiful dogs are unmatched. She was extremely response throughout the whole process. Our beautiful girl is now 1. Our vet always comments on how well bred she was and how great it is to see a Frenchie without breathing problems. If I ever wanted another Frenchie I would definitely go back to Deb and recommend her to anyone looking for their new best friend! He is really an extraordinary dog who has made our lives so much better. Since I am now a French bulldog owner, I am more aware of other French bulldogs and can appreciate the superb breeding strategies that Debbie practices in her business. While I know that everyone thinks their dog is the best, I can objectively say that his form is perfection, from tail to ears. Not always the case with this breed, as we all know. We get stopped everywhere and people just cannot get enough of NiRAN. He is another great example of a gorgeous Frenchie in the making, and NiRAN loves to play with his new cousin. Thanks to Bijou French Bulldogs, we have our own little best friend who loves to snooze, snack, and play! Marina Deb is an absolutely pleasure and a dream come true to work with! She is hands on from beginning to getting your furbaby but even afterwards she is still involved. The furbabies she develops are all beautiful and healthy. If we could buy more we sure would!! Our experience has been amazing ever step of the way. We highly recommend her! Call me if you need to discuss Denise Denise Deb!!! Such a pleasure to share a testimonial. You can use the pic I just barely sent above? Deb was such an incredible person to work with to find our new family member. With a previous frenchie crossing the rainbow bridge we were feeling super nervous trying to find a reputable breeder that would be willing to answer lots of questions and truly help us though what was both an emotional and exciting process. She was endlessly available and highly engaged in our efforts to understand how to best match her upcoming litters with our interest. You can tell she cares so deeply about the health and wellness of each one of these little nuggets she helps bring into the world and even more, really looks to build a relationship and keep in touch with her puppies families. We feel so fortunate to have found Deb and our little fur baby! Jayme Mellisa Testimonial: Deb is a wonderful, caring and responsible breeder and we are so happy to have found her when looking for our 3rd Frenchie. It is clear she cares deeply for not only her pups but the breed in general. Wellington aka Welly exhibits all the qualities we love about frenchies - affectionate, curious and social. He is a healthy and confident pup with the sweetest disposition. From my 1st inquiry to picking up Welly, working with Deb has been an easy, seamless process. We are so happy to have found Bijou French Bulldogs and for the joy that Welly has brought to all of us! Mellisa M. By absolute fate, Deb came into our lives. Our family had just been told by another breeder one we worked with for our 9 year old frenchie that the puppy we put a deposit on, was no longer available, with absolutely no communication or reason. Our entire family was heartbroken, especially our two children. Out of desperation, I did a quick google search and stumbled upon Bijou French Bulldogs. After reading the testimonials, I sent a message to Deb to which she replied almost immediately We scheduled a facetime meeting for the next evening. The conversation was fluid and seamless. This also gave her the opportunity to see where the puppy would live which brought her comfort as well. Throughout the entire process Deb was communicative and transparent, something we had not experienced with any other breeder. For example, a few days before we were scheduled to pick up the puppy, Deb called and said the puppy was at the vet, as she was not eating or drinking overnight. I need to get her better first. She also sent us the medical paperwork and note from the vet, she was extremely thorough. Although we were disappointed with the temporarily delay, we respected that Deb was acting solely out of her care and love for the puppy. After pushing the pickup day back, a week, my husband drove to pick up Carmella. We brought Carmella home to meet our two children, and our 9-year-old French Bulldog, Dutchess. Deb was knowledgeable about how to introduce Carmella to our family. To no surprise, Deb was on point! During the first few weeks of having Carmella at home we would reach out to Deb with questions, pictures or just updates. Deb, completely consistent with how she treated us throughout the entire process was communicative, transparent, and helpful. Her knowledge for this breed is unrivaled by any other breeder we have experienced. Growing up with English bulldogs, and French bulldogs myself, I have never experienced a more thorough and responsible breeder. If you are looking for a breeder who puts quality care into her pups, will be communicate with you during every step of the process, and patiently answer all of your questions and concerns, then Bijou French Bulldogs is for you. Carmella fits in perfectly with our family, and we have Deb and her outstanding program to thank. Amy Debbie is a very responsible breeder caring for each pup individually and the whole litter. Debbie always makes herself available for any questions you may have before during and after your purchase. I Purchased Mr. Quinn in March of and never looked back. He is beautiful kind, and funny. He has such expression in his face. Everyone who meets Mr. Quinn falls in love with him. He is a real character with lots of charm. He gets along well with my other dogs. Quinn loves to travel and we are attending breed handling classes hoping to enter the show ring in the near future so Mr. Quinn can put his swagger on and hopefully come home with a few ribbons. Glenna We love our sweet little Gizmo. Thank you Deborah for helping us pick the perfect match for our beloved 5 year old frenchie. Gizmo is strong, loving, sweet and wants to be just like his big brother! Deb was easy to work with, very professional and takes excellent care of her puppies. Olive came to me trained on puppy pads with the sweetest and most kind temperament you could ever want from a French bulldog. Olive was already socialized and great with other dogs. Especially as first time dog owners it is crucial to have a breeder you can trust. Deb went above and beyond making sure my wife and I felt comfortable and ready to buy a puppy. Further to that she was always available to us for any questions we had to help guide us through the first few months and beyond of raising our puppy. She answered all of our questions and showed us the litter of adorable puppies, the mom and their whelping area. Even after we took our adorable pup home, she still checked in on her and responded to any questions we had. Poppy is a happy, healthy and sometimes sassy LOL pup and we are so happy with her! Finding a reliable preservation breeder was of high importance to us and we feel so lucky to have stumbled onto the BiJou French Bulldogs website one day. From the start, Deb has been a great communicator which really helped us feel at ease throughout the process of getting a pup. It is clear how much she loves her pups and cares about the families they go to. .Butaro is our first dog and our pride and joy! He is the sweetest pup and loves meeting new people and people love meeting him! He has brought so much joy into our lives and also came housebroken, which was a big and pleasant surprise as first-time dog owners! If you are looking to bring a french bulldog into you family, we highly recommend Deb and BiJou Frenchies - they are the best at what they do, you will not regret it! Stephanie C Easy experience from the beginning to end. Deb got back to me quickly about the last available pup. Communication was a breeze and we were able to agree to a pickup location that was convenient for both of us. Lola came with all her shots and chip information. We love Lola so much and are very happy we were able to bring her home last February. She was very professional. She was very knowledgeable about the breed and answered all my questions. It was such a great experience that I also purchased a puppy for my daughter. I take Paris to work with me everyday and the residents at the skilled nursing facility where I work love her. She is calm, friendly and well behaved. Joy B My puppy, mochi, is absolutely perfect! She is healthy, beautiful and so full of love! I could not be more grateful. In addition, Deb has been very helpful and is there to answer any questions I may have. Margaret C Our family has been researching various breeds of dogs and felt that the French Bulldog would best suit our family. Over this past summer, we have had the pleasure of working with Deb Knowlton of Bijou French Bulldog. We came across her website and became even more intrigued about the French Bulldog. From the first time we came into contact with Ms. Knowlton, she has truly demonstrated many qualities of professionalism and passion for the work that she does. She was always available to answer any questions we had via text or email in a promptly manner. When the time came to pickup our Frenchie, the process was fairly simple. Knowlton welcomed us into her home and gave her undivided attention to discuss all the information we needed to best care for our dog. Luna was already chipped, vaccinated and examined by a qualified veterinarian. Today, Luna is doing well and continues to bring such joy to our family. Dom M This year we added a second Frenchie from Deb to our family. We could not be happier with the disposition of our pup Levi and he has been a great addition.Deb took the time to identify a perfect match to our existing Frenchie and both are thriving. Deb is always available for questions during and after the entire process and makes sure that both parents and puppies are happy for years to come. Rebecca W Deb made the process of selecting the right Frenchie easy and fun. Just before the pandemic when we visited Deb to choose our puppy, she let the mother audition us as owners and we really hit it off. When we went back to the pen, the littlest puppy approached us and that was it. Love at first sight. Yasmin is a happy, healthy, self-confident puppy who brings joy to us every day. Bijou French Bulldogs is the best! Yolanda S We looked for the right breeder for our frenchie for awhile, and as soon as we met Deb, we could feel how much care, knowledge, and respect for this breed that she brings. We knew she would be the perfect choice for one of the most important in our lives! Fiona is beautiful, and exhibits all the best qualities of a well bred frenchie— she is super healthy, active, social, and the most friendly temperament. We won the lottery with Fiona and we know that deb had a huge part in making this possible. From the start, Deb took the time to share her knowledge on the breed, their characteristics, and her process. We knew immediately that we had an expert in Deb, and someone who loves and cares for her animals. Minka is the most loving, playful, silly, and all around best dog. She has completely exceeded our expectations, and everyone who meets her falls in love with her. As with most dog lovers we will go to extremes for our dogs, and to say we spoil them in an understatement. We put a great deal of time into investigating the breeders of our dogs and this was especially true for Tucker. This was a journey that took us to visit and meet several Frenchie breeders all who had a love of this wonderful breed. Along this journey we came to meet Deb of Bijou French Bulldogs. Immediately upon meeting Deb and visiting with her we realized Deb was truly special. From the time we picked up Tucker Deb has remained in touch with us and offered advice and support. Tucker is a healthy and absolutely beautiful puppy that has a wonderful personality, his coloring and disposition was exactly what Deb had said it would be. Linda L We are a dog-loving family, but, almost exclusively, we have been Lab owners. While we were all in the house for the pandemic, we realized that this would be a great time to get a puppy. However, this time my daughter asked if we could get a smaller dog that could sit in her lap easier , and that she could take with her more easily than she can the larger labs. Not having explored the smaller dog world before, we did a bit of digging into what breeds of small dogs would fit into our lives, and we determined that the French Bulldog was the way to go. I began my research into finding a pup, and I quickly learned a few things: 1. Rescue French Bulldog puppies are hard to impossible to find, 2. Frenchies are a significant investment and 3. I looked for quite some time, and began discussions with more than a few breeders. Some of the breeders were excellent, but many were not. It began to remind me of puppy milling of labradors we have encountered so many times in the past. Lots of discussion about designer colors on web sites, but little about breeding philosophy. On the day that I sent her a quick note looking to connect, Deb called me. During that first phone call I asked her with questions about her kennel, her breeding philosophy, and overall questions about Frenchies and how well a puppy would fit in our house. Deb enthusiastically engaged in that discussion with passion, and I knew this was a person who I wanted to work with. I was particularly concerned with breathing issues that these dogs so often has, and Deb was able to answer all of these questions with with ease and details since she has a deep experience in breeding Frenchies, and loves to do it. She very purposefully and knowledgeably sets up her breeding program based on a lot of data, not just a pedigree. She has a fantastic working knowledge of genetics, and tracks her dogs health so well that she can use this data to produce great litters. Her process is impressive. We were able to give Deb our criteria about the kind of dog we were looking for, and what we were not. She immediately spoke about future litters she was planning that would fit our needs. I fully expected to have to wait up at least 6 months for a puppy, but we were able to get a puppy sooner than that. We got Millie, a beautiful Fawn with tons of red accents. She is smaller in size, just as we like, and Deb told us that with her intensity gene, that her coloring was going to be stunning. She was absolutely right. Millie has been an amazing addition to our family, and even keeps up with our labs! Her alert spirit commands the room, and at the same time, she is loving and sweet. Her temperament could not be better. We love that she is a pretty puppy, but more important to looks, her health and temperament are paramount. However, the best testimonial that I can provide comes from the days following Millie home-coming. We took this beautiful 5 lb puppy to the vet for a wellness visit, and during the exam, the vet turned to me and said that she had no concerns about breathing or palate issues with this puppy, and that I should commend Deb for a beautifully bred dog - the best she has seen in years. If you are searching for Frenchies, and are considering Bijou, rest assured that you are in excellent hands and paws Sean D Once my family had decided it was time to get a dog I knew we needed a smaller one, who would bond with the whole family. I have always had dogs, large and small. My last one was an American bulldog, Rottweiler mix, we rescued at 6 weeks old, whom I loved. After researching the qualities we settled on a French Bulldog. I was excited my husband, who wanted a larger Pit Bull less than. There are so many breeders on the internet and 90 percent of them left me feeling like it was a business. Some I down right worried about the animals in their care. What I loved about Deb was the level of time and care she put into her animals. As a nurse I appreciated the commitment to health and socialization she gave for what I knew would be my newest child. I have two with two legs and now Nas, our Frenchie and Mashugana our Bengal cat to make two on four legs. We have only had him since September but he is adored by our whole family. My husband within a week was proudly telling everyone Nas was just what he wanted and now six months later is trying to get me to agree to a second. The vet was so impressed with his health, everyone who meets him talks about how smart he is. I have never had a dog more willing to love on everyone he meets. If we do decide to expand our family again we will be contacting Deb. She truly has a passion for what she does and the joy she brings to families. She was honest, professional, and very caring about us and our puppy. She is always willing to help with any questions, promptly responds and cares deeply for the pups, doing all she can to best prepare them for life with their new family. She is confident and does not get easily stressed. She is also very well socialized. Luna is the perfect example of what a Frenchie should be like. She is social, accepting, very friendly, and a quick learn… she has far exceeded my expectations! From our initial phone call to when I picked Baxter up, Deb and Shelley were knowledgeable, communicative and very clear that their top priority is the health and well-being of their dogs. Not only is Baxter the most beautiful Frenchie I have ever seen, but he also has the best temperament - he is sweet, playful, friendly with all dogs, people and children, snuggly, loyal - I could go on and on. Baxter and I can hardly make it two feet on the street without getting stopped - people come out of stores and restaurants to meet him. I will definitely get a second puppy from them sometime, hopefully in the near future. Not only Is Dexter healthy and happy but he has the perfect personality that could only have come from great parents fur and human. Shelly and Deb are phenomenal, educated us and made the whole process exciting and comfortable. Their continued support and love since we picked Dexter up is amazing. We already have and would continue to recommend them as breeders. K Stoltzfus Deb and Shelly are not only two of the nicest most helpful, honest and knowledgeable people, they treat their dogs like their family and will be there to help with any advice you need even after you bring your puppy home. Our boy, Xander, is smart, funny and full of love, hugs and licks. I was in such shock I think I must have mentioned it to everyone who asked how our visit went. She's healthy, happy, intelligent and the most affectionate pup I've ever met. We brought her home in August at 14 weeks and she has truly completed our family!! I was looking to add a french bulldog to our family, and from the onset they were absoltely helpful. This was the first time I was researching and interested in the breed, and they were very helpful in educating me along the process. They were very responsive and answered all of my e-mails and I send a lot! They truly love thier dogs, which is evident, and take pride and care in what they do. I look forward to the day we are able to grow our family even further and hope to have the opportunity to work with them again! J LaRocco Owning a French bulldog was a dream of mine for about 10 years before it became a reality. I always loved the look of the breed but after careful research I knew if I ever purchased one I would need to find a reputable breeder. I asked around, did some Google searches and scoured Facebook for contact information. I had been talking to another breeder when I found Deb and Shelly. I immediately sent in an interest form and Deb called me within a day or so. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about her dogs and why they were superior to the others. And after speaking with the other breeders I could compare them all and it was abundantly clear who I'd be getting my next furbaby from! Health testing was very important to us and Deb has done a wonderful job of making sure that her puppies are free of genetic and other disorders. Penny Lane came to us in Sept and has been such an awesome addition to our crew. She has the sweetest temperament. She's very smart. And she has these amazing brown eyes that look at you so lovingly you just have to give her pets or a treat! She's been a wonderful companion to me and our other dog. I highly recommend speaking with Deb and Shelly if you are searching for a Frenchie. You will not be disappointed! B Smassanow Deb and Shelly were absolutely wonderful to work with. We did a lot of research on Frenchie breeders in the New York area and luckily came across Beautibuls. From the first conversation with Deb we knew they were the ones we wanted to go with. They were extremely knowledgable and were so happy to share their expertise with us. We visited Deb and Shelly early on in the process and they showed us many puppies they were all equally adorable! She is healthy, happy, full of personality and absolutely stunning! After we took her home, they were reachable at any time which really helped us settle in as new puppy parents. We receive endless compliments of how well she represents the ideal French Bulldog breed. She is perfection! We cannot wait to extend our Frenchie family and will absolutely be giving Deb and Shelly a call when we are ready. We did a lot of research before we settled on to getting a puppy from them. They are respected breeders by other French bulldog breeders and that was an important consideration for us. Deb and Shelly have been great in giving us advice and answering our questions on every aspect of raising a healthy and happy puppy from feeding, toilet training and teaching good habits. Their advice and involvement in raising Louis have been invaluable to us. Louis is now a 16 months old happy, smart , sweet and strong young adult dog. He is completely house broken in and has his routines and has become a loving family member. Our two children love Louis like a brother. We highly recommend Debbie and Shelly and the Beautibul puppies. YKW and family. Y Waite "Fred and I give Beautibuls a 6 star out of 5 star review"! Looking back at all the disappointment from other breeders, it was a blessing in disguise to find Beautibuls and become part of their extended Frenchie family! I filled out the online application and heard back within a few hours. Beautibuls have changed my perception of what a great experience purchasing a puppy can be! I was instantly drawn to the pair, Deb and Shelly. If we ever add another Frenchie to our family it will be a Beautibuls Frenchie"! S Kibbe We are the very proud owners of 3 French Bulldogs. I was referred to Deb and Shelly by a breeder I had purchased my last little girl from as she did not have what I was looking for at the time. My experience with them was great. We spoke at length about what I was looking for in a pup as we were adding a 3rd and wanted the dynamics to work. Randal is a pied boy he is about 8 months old now and really filling out beautifully. He was housebroken in 6 months which is record breaking for my Frenchies. He is very sweet, and lovable with a great personality. Deb and Shelly were extremely accommodating and I have enjoyed sharing Randal's milestones with them. They have a top notch breeding program and take great pride in what they do. I would not hesitate to recommend Beautibuls to anyone looking for an amazing dog. I am one of the Beautibuls. I am named after my frenchy dad Dominic but I look just like my frenchy mom Senka. My mom is Gale. She tells me she loves me because I am sweet and a good snuggler. My dad says he loves me because of my good health which means no vet bills! My frenchy sister Giada is not a Beautibul we still love her and she had some large vet bills as a puppy. Grammies Shelly and Deb made sure that did not happen to me. Dad is also proud of how fast I was able to train him to hold me and give me lots of love. Our puppy Bowie is a playful, smart, happy, and loving pup. Being a part of the extended Beautibuls family is a wonderful place to be. I had to fill out online applications amid fighting back the tears, getting over losing our little pied gal. We got Lola from a breeder in Australia when we lived there 10 years prior, so we had no connections with US breeders. Some breeders never replied, some were short, but Deb emailed us back right away and even set up a call with us the very next day to find out about our situation and our ability to care for one of her pups. As luck would have it, we ended up with our handsome Louie very soon after we spoke with Deb. We were a bit nervous about having a new puppy so close to our loss, but he was the blast of sunshine that our family needed. Louie is energetic, smart and healthy, with a great temperament and he has the whole neighborhood suckered into playing fetch with him. We brought our puppy home last August and Deb and Shelly have been there every step of the way with any questions we may have had. Or little boy has been a perfect fit with our other two dogs and has an awesome temperament! He's the best. Every time I show co-workers they always ask " Where did you get him from". Our vet said he's never seen a puppy so prefect. With that said we are blessed to have a Beautibuls dog in our family. I don't want to forget how great of a dog he is as well. We have another Frenchie and we see the difference. Thanks again for the best meatball ever. Couldn't picture life without our Tyson" Kevin F "My husband and I purchased our first Frenchie from Beautibuls and we could not be happier. Knowing that this was our first the breeders were so knowledgeable and helpful. We are completely in love with this little guy. Although we chose not to show him, he is our Grand Champion!!! We will defiantly be back for a second puppy". Lisa T "Henry is such a sweet soul. He loves to snuggle up on your lap but he's also very playful. His wobble wag giggle ball is his favorite toy - he just loves chasing it around the house. He's super friendly with everyone and loves playing with other dogs. People ask me all the time where I got him because he's so adorable!! He makes me so happy every day"!! He's a puppy from your very first litter and has been such a joy in my life. You have helped guide me in the show ring and are always there for any questions I may have. Thank You Ladies!!! Lori H Enchanted Bulldogs It was a pleasure engaging with Deb - she was very helpful and informative throughout the process. Achilles, our puppy, was healthy and has immediately become one of the family. Also, Deb has been helpful after we took Achilles home with us. I highly recommend them as breeders. Steve D "I have been an ecstatic and exceedingly happy Beautibulls Frenchie Mommy to 2 beautiful, happy and healthy frenchies, Mimosa and Madeline Maddie since the minute I brought them home!! In addition to being a beautiful dog, her disposition was friendly and loving to me, my friends, my cats, and the dogs in the Park! She often gave THEM - most of whom were much bigger - a run for their money, and tuckered them out from play way before she was ready to call it quits!! Anyway, they're pretty funny when that all comes out, but they are truly NOT that helpful!! They are both cuddlers, lickers, and lovers - just wanting to be around mom, and in mornings and evenings even view the kitties as fellow cuddle buddies! Mimosa will be 5 at Christmas and Maddie will be 2 at the end of this month. Neither has had any health issues, and any concerns or questions that I had when I first brought them home Shelly and Deb were eager to answer. Similarly before I committed to buying one and joining their "family", I was very curious about the breeding and whelping processes, and besides being incredibly interesting, they helped me understand how and why my girls were going to be as healthy as they were. My first 3 dogs were big dogs - 2 bullmastiffs and 85 lb boxer lab and I adored them completely. I miss them dearly as well, but I am so so so happy with my 20 lb frenchies - they might be smaller in size, but not smaller in heart or energy levels and I'll never go back! As a matter of fact, I have notified Beautibulls of my desire to get another one, so if that's not a positive reference, I don't know what is!! I could not possibly recommend Beautibulls more highly!! Thank you Deb and Shelly!!! Our hearts were forever broken and we soon realized that that the only thing nearly as sad as losing our bully, was the emptiness we felt without having a dog to share our lives with. Knowing the breed well, we set out on a quest to find a reputable breeder. It was a very long journey but we were determined, and health and temperament were our top priorities. As time went on we developed a keen interest in Frenchies — and we were ever so fortunate to have come across the Beautibuls website. It made us so very hopeful - not only were the photos of their dogs beautiful, but they were so healthy and accomplished. We reached out and to our surprise not only did we get a prompt response, but it was such a pleasure to speak with Deb who dedicated a great deal of time to listen to our story, and talk to us about their breeding program. She was so knowledgeable and patient with us in answering all of our questions. Deb and Shelly made the process so smooth and were and still are! Luigi has been nothing short of amazing from day 1. He came to us so well socialized — we remember being so surprised at how quickly and confidently he settled right in… sleeping right through from his first night onwards! He steals the show in his training classes, loves his skateboard and is an emotional support dog. The breed is small and muscular with heavy bone structure, a smooth coat, a short face, and trademark "bat" ears. Many of my dogs are Champions and Grand Champions, producing incredible babies. My dogs are health tested to guarantee all puppies live a long and happy life!
