I think he's about 7 years old, but I'm not sure. Jordan is a very special dog. Like a lot of dogs, Jordan was rescued from a very bad situation. He was extremely emaciated, he had no hair, covered in parasites, and extremely afraid of everything. He could barely walk when I got him. I have owned him for about 7 months now, and he has all his hair back too much, actually , has gained a lot of weight, is MUCH happier, but most importantly he is no longer afraid of people. With spending a ton of time with his socialization , training , and guidance , he is now a well-balanced dog. I don't exactly know what happened to him before me, but it doesn't matter anymore, anyway. Jordan did have all sorts of bad behaviors at first due to his neglect which included: excessive barking, digging, pulling, jumping, etc. Typical "bad dog" behavior. But with all the walks and adventures we go on he is not only well-balanced, but truly happy. I am his "Guardian Angel. He gives hugs and kisses. He is my suction-cup when we are outside together; he has to be by me always. I love it! He is happiest when the whole family is out in the backyard playing together. He is very much a part of our family, even stays inside now, after some time housetraining. He was never aggressive toward anything or anyone. He loves his "girlfriend"! My other Boxer Baby Girl who also is a rescue. She was rescued at 2 years old and is now a whopping 8 years old. A few months after losing another rescue of mine I was really considering adopting another dog because I needed some form of protection living in a rough neighborhood. One day, while I was sitting in my living room my neighbor knocked on my door, "Hey, there's a Boxer outside running around crazy, and the owner doesn't want it. OK, I will take a look! I saw that happy face and that wiggly butt, I was in love! I said yes! Little did I know what I was getting myself into. This dog was an absolute nightmare, lol! At first she barged out of every door, broke every collar, leash, chain, tie-out cable we bought! She was horrified of so many things. She had separation anxiety really bad, so bad she made herself bleed to get out. After a very long and bumpy road we finally accomplished what I dreamed: "the perfect dog. She is so well-behaved and excellent mannered. She even stops on a dime if I tell her to. She is my everything! I have taught her a lot, but not as much as she has taught me. She taught me patience, understanding, love, devotion, and so much more. She has won the hearts of everyone she has met AND has even made a dog lover out of the people who were "scared" of dogs or "hated" dogs. I take her everywhere with me. She loves her bath time, especially playing "torro" with the towel during drying time! She hugs me, and she gives me the gentlest kisses. She has no aggression toward anything or anyone, she loves everything! This dog is my entire world. She always rests her head on my lap and gives me those soulful puppy dog eyes. Unlike any other dogs I've ever had she and I communicate mentally or something. She and I just know what each other want. Before I got her she had never been out other than a quick potty break on a 4-foot lead. She also had been through a lot of owners. She's great inside now, though! With all that work she's perfect inside! I can leave a whole plate of food on the floor for hours while I'm not in the room and she won't touch it. No accidents, never chewed on anything, very quiet. She's my angel. Her favorite activity would be eating. She's loves food. This is a dog who has taught me to be strong, all good things are worth fighting for, never give up, and you never get the dog you want, always the dog you need. I cannot say I follow his methods, because I have been training my dogs this same way before I ever heard of him. I also train therapy dogs, and guide dogs. Not certified, or anything. I rescue dogs and train them to help those who don't want to go through the certified Therapy Dog Associations for such reasons as waiting lists. I thank god for Cesar, though, because he is one of the few proving that Pit Bulls can be rehabilitated, and showing the world everything they need to know to save their dog's life. My love for Baby Girl made me fall in love with Boxers period, which led me into rescuing another Boxer, so I guess in a way she's saved two lives. Just like me. She's been through a lot, and has come very far. Most important thing she didn't give up on me, either. So, this photo is a dedication to Baby Girl so the entire world can hear Baby Girl's message of never giving up on your dog, because they will never give up on you. Thank you for the strength, you have given me Baby Girl, and I hope together we can save lives: the lives of dogs. She's a Boxer in every sense of the word. Peas and lentils are likewise not suitable for dogs with renal disorders. Which ingredients should I avoid in dog food? Nutrition is a complicated subject. Just like in human nutrition, different ingredients in dog and cat food can help or harm your pet. These are seven ingredients to avoid in pet food. Best dog food brands in the Philippines Different types of dog food The first step to choosing the right dog food is understanding its many types. There are five types of dog food that you need to know about: dry, canned, semi-moist, home-cooked, and raw. Dry food Otherwise known as kibbles, this is the typical dog food you see in many pet and grocery stores. Dry food is the conventional choice for many dog owners because of its affordable price, easy preparation, and long shelf life. Always read the labels when shopping for dry dog food. Also look for essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, E, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium. It has a long shelf life but is a little bit more expensive than dry food. This will give you an idea of how much fat and protein it contains. These are snacks made to look like bacon, pork chops, or hot dogs. Semi-moist food contains more sugar, salt, artificial flavors and colors than dry or canned meals, so use it sparingly. Home-cooked Aside from store-bought food, pet owners can prepare meals from scratch for their fur babies. Home-made diets haven't been proven to be 'better' than ready-made dog food, but whole and unprocessed ingredients are well-known to have long-term benefits. When preparing home-cooked dog food, you should include proteins such as beef, turkey, lamb, chicken, pork, tuna, and the occasional egg. Avoid fatty cuts or anything covered in garlic or various seasonings. Take great care to remove chicken bones since they tend to splinter. You can also include vegetables such as peas, carrots, spinach, cucumbers, pumpkin, sweet potato, and corn. Carbohydrates like rice, pasta, oatmeal, and even quinoa are also important. Avoid including alcohol, avocados, chocolate, coffee, garlic, grapes, raisins, mint, and artificial flavors in their meals. While most of us would prefer to prepare home-cooked food for our pets, it can be expensive and time-consuming. Raw Dogs are carnivores, so a raw diet is an obvious choice for many dog owners. A raw diet can comprise of organ and muscle meat, whole or ground bone, raw eggs, dog-safe fruits and veggies, and even dairy products. It can be home-made, freeze-dried, or dehydrated. However, before you transition to a raw diet, be sure to consult your veterinarian. Although these mostly cover the basics, they might not have all the nutritional needs of a growing puppy or a nursing mother. Many veterinarians recommend feeding your dog according to their life stage to maintain optimal health and wellness. Puppy 0 to 9 months From birth to nine months old, puppies need the right amount of nutrition to support their growth and development. At six to eight weeks, they need to be fed as often as four to six meals a day. Puppy dog food should include high amounts of calcium and protein to support bone and muscle growth, especially for large breeds. After weaning, they lose their ability to digest lactose. Although small amounts can be tolerated, milk may cause an upset stomach and diarrhea. Overweight dogs need less fat and protein and vice versa for underweight dogs. Ingredients like prebiotics and probiotics help maintain a healthy gut by promoting microbial populations. Increased omega-3 fatty acids can combat inflammation and help promote a stronger vascular system. Glucosamine can also help promote joint health and combat arthritis. What might work for other dogs may not work for yours. As descendants of wolves, early hunting dogs are capable of ingesting large portions of food before going for days without eating. However, dividing meals once or twice per day is recommended for household pets these days. Regardless of their feeding schedule, never allow your dog to exercise after a big meal, especially when they consume it rapidly. This can help avoid intestinal obstruction, bloating, and other digestive problems. Should I avoid grain in dog food? Unless your dog suffers from intolerances to grains or carbohydrate malabsorption, a small amount of gluten-free grain can serve as part of a healthy diet. If not, it's best to feed your dog grain-free dog food packed with nutrition to help them stay healthy and active. What if my dog has allergies? Believe it or not, dogs can be allergic to certain foods. Meat, dairy products, and eggs are some of the most common allergens for dogs. If you see symptoms such as redness in the skin or paws and loss of coat, try switching to a different protein source until you have narrowed down the source of the allergy. How to Choose Puppy Food — Buying Guide Here are some key points to consider: Wet or dry food: pick the type that's best for your puppy. Look for high-quality and nourishing ingredients to support development. Consult your vet to check if your puppy has special needs. For more detailed information, read through our buying guide below. Here are some of the differences between dry and wet food to help you choose the right one. They can also be easily ingested because they commonly come with softened meat chunks. Wet foods are also more flavorful and aromatic for dogs, which is why most of them prefer them, especially picky eaters. Moreover, if your fur baby is sick and has less appetite, wet food can entice your pup to eat because of its flavorful smell and taste. Dry Foods Are Convenient and Have Dental Benefits Compared to wet food, dry food or kibbles do not spoil easily and can be pre-portioned. They are also cheaper than the other type, making it a more cost-efficient diet for your puppy. Moreover, dry food encourages your pup to chew on their food, which helps remove tartar buildup and encourages the development of stronger teeth. You can always pick breed-specific puppy foods, but below are some tips for easier selection. For Smaller Breeds, Choose Small-Sized Kibbles and Chunks If you have a chihuahua, a toy-sized shih tzu, or a poodle, opt for small-sized kibble and chunks, whether it is dry or wet. This is so that your puppy can easily chew and ingest the food. Moreover, small breeds require a higher amount of protein and calories compared to larger breeds because they are more active and have higher energy levels. As their bones grow faster, it is recommended to choose puppy food with the appropriate calcium-to-phosphorus ratio of to 1. This prevents joint and muscle diseases like developmental orthopedic disease DOD. Moreover, large breed puppy foods typically come in larger sizes, so be careful not to overfeed them to avoid getting them overweight. This is also why their food has fewer calories than small-breed puppy foods. Franz Philip Joseph R. Ubaldo Regular weighing of large breed puppies is important. In the first months, large breed puppies grow way more than the smaller breed ones making the adjustment of their food portions more crucial in ensuring they get the proper amount of food to sustain their rapid growth. Puppies also have a lot of energy, so it is important that their food contains a good amount of calories and carbohydrates. Steer Clear of Puppy Food Made With Meat By-Products Part of ensuring that your puppy is eating safe and nourishing foods is avoiding those that are made of meat by-products. With this in mind, always remember to check the label and choose puppy foods with real meat. They may be allergic to a certain type of meat or ingredient found in most puppy foods, so you have to be picky when selecting one. Ubaldo Aside from food allergies, food intolerance is another concern in puppies that pet owners need to be aware of. This is different from allergies because it does not involve the immune system and can just cause transient gastrointestinal problems like one-off vomiting, stomach pain, or stool changes upon ingestion of the trigger food component. It becomes a lot more complicated when given or fed on a regular basis because those symptoms may mimic the effect of allergic reactions and could have longer effects. About Us Why Australian Labradoodles? We raise Australian Multi-Generational Labradoodles for many reasons. The Australian Labradoodle has become a breed that is noted for its high intelligence, asthma and allergy friendliness and no to low shedding, and easy trainability. Their playful and endearing personalities make them loving and loyal family companions. Combine all this with excellent health and fantastic temperaments and you have the dog we love! A Love For Dogs Our Labradoodles are hand raised and whelped in our home with love and lots of attention from our family, extended family, and full-time staff. Our dogs have plenty of room to run and play indoors or outdoors. We take great care in socializing our Australian Labradoodle puppies so they will be a treasured companion from our family to yours! Our Australian lines come from the two main research and development centers, Tegan Park and Rutland Manor in Australia. We are a gold paw breeder with the Australian Labradoodle Association of America ALAA and go above and beyond their minimum requirements for health testing. Along with my family and full-time staff, we raise genuine quality miniature, medium, and standard Australian Multi-Generational Australian Labradoodles. After researching the breed, it became apparent to me that the Australian Labradoodle was the right choice for my family with a history of allergies and asthma. We fell in love with these incredible dogs and one thing led to another! We have been in business now for sixteen years. Labradoodles come in many colors! We specifically select our parents to your puppies based on specific criteria including health, temperament, size and color. To meet all the possible color and size needs of our families we try and ensure a color mix every year along with a range of sizes even in our small program. Again, temperament and family personality fit should come first when selecting a dog. We suggest you stay open, meet all the puppies and select based on multiple criteria. Parti Labradoodle What is a parti labradoodle? Parti labradoodles are two color dogs. Genetically the dog is the color, so a black and white parti labradoodle is technically a black labradoodle that expresses parti. The parti portion is the white coloring over the other color much like a swiss cheese pattern allowing the other color to come thru. Please remember there is no accommodation at Rainmaker Ranch Labradoodles for a specific parti pattern you may want based on their photos over the first 8 weeks. We will continue to place all parti puppies based on color and gender and not on where that color pattern is located. Our mission to provide the best puppy based on temperament and health to each family. We understand that families may have a preference in pattern as the puppies grow, but we want you to understand each puppy has a unique personality based on the temperament testing we run weekly. In turn, that temperament testing matches one family profile better than another. We only accept families to our wait list that also have the same goal of obtaining the best puppy based on temperament over pattern placement. At this point our puppies have a generally consistent middle of the road personality which is what we have spent the last 15 years breeding towards. However, even within that middle of the road personality not too shy and not too rambunctious we note difference which leads one puppy to be better with kids, or other dogs, or cats or the retired couple over the family with kids or traveling often. We will not alter this plan based on your position on the wait list or any other reasons other than personality match to a family profile. This is a series of alleles within genes that may or may not be transferred to your puppy from his or her parents and may or may not be masked by other genes. In a nut shell, it is impossible to determine reliably at weeks of age. We only accept families to our wait list that also have our goal of obtaining the best puppy based on temperament over the coat lightening possibility. Please understand we think health and temperament is the most important criteria in selecting a puppy. When you have the perfect fleece coat, not too curly like a poodle and you have removed the harsher texture, you finally achieve Black Silk. Black Silk is super shiny. Think of it like paint sheen, you have gloss paint and flat paint, well Black Silk is like gloss paint. The color maintains this shine unlike some of the other colors, it is really quite beautiful and although black is genetically common, Black Silk is rare. Sable or Brindle Labradoodle This link will take you to more photos of Sable and Brindle puppies and dogs. Labradoodles and Australian Labradoodle dogs and puppies. The resulting Labradoodles subsequently have been bred to each other, continuing the multi-generational tradition. Even when the other types of Labradoodles are bred on for generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle, as the attributes of the infused breeds were not included in their ancestry. The Australian Labradoodle Club of America was founded exclusively to foster and protect the original Australian Labradoodles that have come directly from Tegan Park and Rutland Manor breeding stock, or their offspring. Our mission is to maintain and improve the quality and soundness of the Australian Labradoodles, and to carefully monitor the further development of the breed. All member breeders are carefully screened to help ensure the future of the Australian Labradoodle. Our member breeders must breed to the highest standards. We have Breeder Mentors to assist member breeders and to help new breeders get off to a good start. Coat There are basically two coat types: Fleece Textured Coat - This is a soft textured coat much like the texture of an Angora goat. It can have a straight wavy look or a soft spiraling curl look. It is an easy to manage coat. Most of our sundance labradoodles will have the wavy fleece coat. Wool Textured Coat- This coat is like lambs wool in texture. It will have the appearance of loose spiraling wool which opens up easily to the skin. It should not appear dense, thick or tightly curled. Color One of the fun things about labradoodles are how many different colors there are to choose from. Their coats can be a solid color or patterns such as parti, phantom, sable, brindle, abstract and multi. Almost all puppies will fade or darken as they mature. For example chocolate puppies often fade to a cafe' color as they mature. Some common colors for labradoodles are white, cream, chalk, gold, apricot, caramel, buff, parchment, red, chocolate, cafe, lavender, pewter, silver and black! I'll take one in every color please! His purpose in doing this was to breed a guide dog for a blind woman that would also be allergy friendly with a low to non shedding coat because her husband suffered with allergies. He selected these two breeds so that they would be easily trainable and have the intelligence they would need to be a great service dog. Rutland Manor and Tegan Park research centers of Australia set to work on improving the breed. They began by carefully infusing several other breeds into early generations of the cross to improve coat texture, to illiminate shedding, and to improve temperament, conformation and size. They also to wanted reduce known genetic diseases commonly found in the Lab and Poodle. This is a big investment in more ways than one. Know that there are differences in labradoodles and those differences can be huge. A lot of these differences show up in temperament and coat. Make sure you know the pros and cons to the types of Labradoodles listed below. Because of this there will be a wide variety of coats in the litter. From flat, hairy, short coats to very woolly poodle coats. Coats vary in length, thickness and texture and can range from completely non-shedding to shedding. There are inconsistencies within the lines making it very uncertain as to what you will end up with. The puppy coat is more perfected due to the poodle parent, however the results are mixed as the dogs are different. Coats are typically low to non-shedding but may have variety of coats hair or wool most usually. Multigenerational Labradoodle - This is the pup whose parents are both Labradoodles. The coats are allergy friendly and are low to no shed. Sundance Labradoodles breeds multigenerational Labradoodles. Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle - This is the pup whose parents are both Australian Labradoodles. These puppies are the result of generations of breeding time and investment. They are very allergy friendly and have the no to low shedding coats. They have the attributes and characteristics infused for. Originally bred for service dogs, Australian Labradoodles generally have great temperaments. They have consistent quality of coats, conformation and wonderful temperaments! Australian Labradoodle Sizes: Australian Labradoodles come in these size ranges: Micro mini Australian Labradoodles are " to shoulder and grow to be 10 to 15 lb. We occasionally have them here and there but it is hard to determine which are truly micro minis since puppy choosing happens at 6 weeks of age when all our puppies are tiny. Our miniature Labradoodles are " to the shoulder and around lbs. Our miniature Labradoodles or minis are the result of a miniature Australian Labradoodle bred to a miniature or medium Australian Labradoodle. The vast majority of our puppies fall into this category. Medium Labradoodles are " to the shoulder and weigh 30 to 45 lbs. Standard Labradoodles are about 20" to 22" to the shoulder 45 to 60 lb. The breed standard for "Standard Labradoodles" is 20" and up. We do not breed standard sized Labradoodles in our breeding program. Coat Types: Fleece: also known as borderline or wavy, is soft to the touch - an allergy friendly coat. It can be curly or wavy. Wool: also known as curly, slightly coarse feeling to the touch - an allergy friendly coat. Hair: also known as flat or slick coat, this is a shedding coat and is NOT allergy friendly. Grooming requirements of Australian Labradoodles: There are several factors to consider in grooming your Australian Labradoodle. One is: how long do you want to keep the coat, or what look are you going for? The "shaggy" look is most popular and they can be groomed just a couple times a year. If you keep your pet indoors most of the time you can get away with an occasional bath and brushing every few days. If you want the shorter look, which requires less brushing you will want to groom your pet every couple of months. The next thing to consider is coat type. A curly wool coat is not one you can keep "shaggy" but would tangle and mat if let grow long - they should be groomed every months, depending on care given. A fleece wavy coat will allow for the two different grooming options I spoke about and is the most desired Labradoodle coat. The other coat options we do not breed as they often produce shedders - that is why we breed multi-generation Australian Labradoodles, to produce the best coats and temperaments. They have beautiful wavy fleece coats that will be non shedding and allergy friendly. Both Parents are easy going, affectionate and willing to please. First of all, French Bulldogs do not have a great tolerance to heat and high temperatures and they do require a lot of care and protection from their parents especially in the summer season. Second, the availability of these dogs is not as good as some other breeds out there, hence they can be a bit hard to find especially in the smaller states and cities of India. And lastly, these dogs are a bit pricey to get home and also in terms of maintenance as well. But overall, this is an amazing breed to bring home and anyone who decides to be a French Bulldog parent will definitely not be disappointed. Given below is the average price list of the French Bulldog puppies which are available in India in various variations. Choosing a breeder is as important as choosing a canine that you want to bring home. If you get your future furry companion from an incompetent breeder, then, there is no way to verify whether the canine is fully fine and healthy and the quality of the pooch would also be questionable. But, instead of that, if you choose a trusted and reputable breeder, then, not only the health and fitness of the canine will be verified but the breeder would also provide important information and tips that are necessary to effectively raise that particular pooch. Therefore, you should never compromise with the quality of canine and the standard of a breeder as both are equally important. French Bulldogs for Adoption There are numerous advantages of adopting a pet rather than getting it from a breeder. Animals like dogs and several other pets are all available at various adoption centers situated all around the country, you just have to find the pet you desire. Dogs like French Bulldogs are waiting to be taken away at these shelter homes and as we strongly support this cause, we would like to help you out. If you are not planning to participate in dog shows with your pooch, then it does not matter all that much whether you buy a Show Quality dog or a normal Pet Quality one. Regular nail maintenance is essential, as overly long nails can affect their gait and cause joint issues. Dental Care: Bulldogs are prone to dental problems, so establish a dental care routine early. Brush their teeth regularly with dog-specific toothpaste and provide dental chews or toys to help keep their teeth clean. Bulldogs have unique dietary needs that should be addressed to ensure they maintain a healthy weight and minimize health issues. Look for options that list meat as the primary ingredient and avoid foods with excessive fillers or artificial additives. Common allergens include grains, chicken, and dairy. Consult your vet if you suspect food allergies and consider specialized diets if needed. Fresh Water: Ensure that your Bulldog has access to clean, fresh water at all times. Proper hydration is essential for their overall health. Special Dietary Considerations: Bulldogs are prone to flatulence and sensitive stomachs. Some owners find that feeding their Bulldogs smaller, more frequent meals can help reduce digestive issues. Bulldogs, like any other breed, require care, attention, and financial investment to ensure their well-being. Routine Veterinary Care: Bulldogs need regular veterinary check-ups, vaccinations, and preventive medications. Food: Bulldogs require high-quality dog food to maintain their health. Grooming: While Bulldogs have minimal grooming needs, occasional baths, nail trims, and cleaning of skin folds are necessary. This can help mitigate unexpected veterinary bills. They are very playful and get along fabulously with children, other dogs, and other pets. They may be alert enough to be a good watchdog, but they do not make good guard dogs. They are instinctually more interested in making new friends and getting attention than they are with anything else. They can have a slight prey drive, but most of the time, they are just curious and interested in playing and making friends. The Golden Labrador is a moderately adaptable dog breed. Their large size and energy tend to make them a better fit for larger homes with room to run. They can adapt well to apartment living as long as they are given enough exercise and mental stimulation. But, small spaces can be a challenge because they are large dogs that are so playful and energetic. Golden Labradors do well in just about any climate. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they love their families, thrive on attention, and get bored easily, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. As a mixed breed, a Golden Labrador can inherit the potential health conditions of one or both of the parent breeds. Although the Golden Labrador is a relatively healthy dog breed, there are some potential health conditions to be aware of. These include eye problems like progressive retinal atrophy and joint issues common to large dogs like patellar luxation and hip dysplasia. Like their parent breeds, the Golden Labrador can be prone to weight gain, which does put them at risk of diabetes later in life. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to ensure genetic conditions are not being passed on to puppies. Regular vet visits, proper nutrition, and sufficient exercise can help keep your dog healthy and reduce preventable diseases. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are highly intelligent and highly trainable, so the Golden Labrador should be no different. Eager to please their owners, these dogs pick up on things quickly and respond best to positive training methods focused on praise and reward. This dog breed, like both of the parent breeds, is a great fit for owners of all experience levels, including first-time dog owners. Their high energy can sometimes be a challenge, so you may want to consider puppy training and obedience classes. This designer dog breed may be called a Golden Labrador, but they can show up in many colors. A cream, yellow, or golden coat may be the most common, but a Golden Labrador can also have a black, red, or brown coat. It tends to be a dense double coat that is short or medium in length. This dog breed will shed moderately year-round with heavier shedding sessions twice a year as the seasons change. During seasonal changes, you may want to increase to daily brushing. Not only will this make your dog more comfortable, but it will also decrease the amount of loose fur that ends up around your house. In addition to coat care, you will also need to handle nail, ear, and dental care for your Golden Labrador. Floppy ears tend to trap more dirt, moisture, and debris, which makes them more prone to developing ear infections than ears that stick straight up. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Beyond that, you can use vet-approved dental hygiene chews and treats and even a specially-formulated dental care diet to supplement your efforts. Getting them used to it early and keeping it a positive experience can make grooming a lot easier as your puppy grows into a big dog! Plus, it can become a bonding experience that your dog looks forward to. Golden Labradors are high-energy dogs. Daily walks, playtime, and some extra activity are generally enough for this dog to stay happy and healthy. But, they will probably tire out before you do! Their friendly nature makes the Golden Labrador a great fit for trips to the dog park. Try teaching your dog how to play frisbee. With their retriever background, it could become one of their favorite activities. You can also train your Golden Labrador for several dog sports like agility, dock diving, obedience, and more. A fully-grown Golden Labrador usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Golden Labrador generally lives years. Although Golden Labrador is the most popular name for this designer dog breed, they are also sometimes referred to as a Goldador or a Goldador Retriever. Featured Golden Labrador Article.

I am very passionate about the care of my dogs and strive to have the healthiest and happiest puppies possible. Over the years I learned so much and gained a lot of experience that has helped me excel as a breeder. While I was attending college, I ended up meeting my husband. He also shared my passion in dogs. She was my dream come true and truly encouraged me to be the breeder I am today. I fell in love with a dark female puppy from the litter. Over time and seeing so many families pleased with our puppies we wanted to grow. We felt that a large property was a must for our dogs to exercise and play. We ended up selling our first home and purchasing the house where we reside now. Technically our mailing address is in Greenville however we are in fact in South Westerlo within the hills of Albany county. Both of our families are from the area, so the transition was very supportive and the location is very easy to travel from or to the New York State Thruway or from Interstate I.Soon after our move we have spent so much time with creating the best environment and care for our dogs. Throughout the year we get visited by the state and AKC to verify our dogs are in the best care possible. Everything was thought of during this build. The building consists of two floors. Fans are optional throughout the entire interior. We have additional propane heaters that will work with no electricity. The floors have built in drainage and are covered in grippy flecked epoxy. Our dogs have constant access to water and have comfortable Kuranda beds to lay on. We have designated areas for our older puppies after mom is done nursing them. These areas consist of very nice over-sized play areas. The walls are made out of washable white plastic, and we use g-flooring with fresh wood chips for the bedding. The puppies have plenty of toys and their own Kuranda bed s that they love to lay on or hide below it. Our outside run area consists of a fully covered roof, so our dogs are protected from the elements, with lighting and fans. The play area has over feet of beautiful black chain link fencing. The large play area also offers a doggy playground area where they have plenty of toys to tug and pull on. About our Dogs: We strive to provide the best and healthiest lines of Golden Retrievers. We spend endless hours in search and communication with multiple breeders from all over the United States. Checking pedigrees and clearances prior to committing with a new line. We have made some amazing relationships with some of the best breeders, all of which share the same common goal of breeding healthy AKC Golden Retrievers. We raise and train all of our puppies within our home. We work with commands, potty training, and socialization on many different platforms and various environments. Early on we are verifying their personality and traits are conclusive with a possible prospect for future breeding. As time goes on, we decide if they are a good candidate or not for breeding. If they are a good candidate additional health testing is scheduled per their age. We conduct several medical tests to verify healthy lines prior to breeding. The health tests set us apart from most breeders that claim their dogs are healthy per a veterinarian check or that claim that they conduct DNA genetic health testing but nothing else. One of the first health tests that we conduct and one of the most important tests on all our dogs, is DNA genetic testing. We have used Animal Genetics in the past but have been shifting towards using Embark. This test allows us to verify we have the best pairing of parents prior to breeding and that we are not passing on bad genes that could be avoidable issues in the future. After our dogs turn 1, they proceed to get OFA testing of their eyes and heart. A specialist either looks at their eyes or heart to verify they have no health conditions that could be passed to their offspring. If we are lucky enough that our young golden passes, we will move forward to the next health testing stage. The next health test that we typically conduct once our young golden is 1. While they are sedated to have these x-rays we usually also have Penn Hip testing done. Also, per our vet the Penn Hip is a better test to know the overall health of the hips as they test the elasticity and movement rather then judging based on an image. Last health test we do is done at the age of 2 years old. As the dogs age their bones calcify, a dog with failing elbow or hips younger then 2 could very well change to passing once they turn 2. Under each dog there is a link from K9 data. Unfortunately K9 data will not allow preliminary testing information in the link which is the OFA elbow and hip test results if the dog is under 2 years of age when the test is conducted. However we do list the preliminary test results under each dog. Once we have the official results K9 data will be updated to reflect their latest test results. We are constantly conducting health tests and updating K9 data as well as the webpage. Lots of factors could play into why a dog could fail their OFA elbows or hip tests. It may not necessarily be genetic but instead could be from the environment that they are raised in. Limiting their jumping heights is extremely important. Simply slipping on ice can cause unforeseen affects to their overall development. It is also highly recommended for additional joint supplements as they grow, we prefer the use of NuVet supplements see link on website tab for further information on NuVet products. Lack of vitamin C in their food is another considered attribute to not having passing scores. All of these factors are highly overseen during the raising of our potential breeding dogs. Unfortunately, sometimes our dogs do not pass all of their tests. We sometimes keep them, but we also have found amazing homes for them. We are even more particular in their home placement as we know their personalities and what would be the best fit. They will be spayed prior or be contracted to be spayed soon after being placed in their new homes. We are very focused on ensuring we know our breeding stock through both their individual health and their genealogy testing. Our dogs and puppies get a lot of socializing. Daily they are engaged with our other dogs, our young sons, our friends, and other family members. They all get a ton of love and attention. This ensures they keep up on their house manners and it also makes it incredibly easier when pregnant moms deliver within our home. Our dogs are not kept outdoors like you might see with other breeders. We also have them go into large fenced in play areas where they play in large groups with each other. We do not show our dogs or conduct any competitions with them. When I am not raising my children, I am constantly spending time with my dogs or interacting with potential customers. My husband works many hours in his law enforcement career to dedicate any additional time in competitions, trials, or shows. Once he retires and the children are older, we may pursue that however it is not our current focus. Some of the lighter goldens that we have also known as English Creams do have championship titles in their bloodlines as does our darker red field goldens. Any of our puppies with proper training could and would be amazing for shows or hunting trials as its in their bloodline. About our Puppies: I usually make the determination of puppies after 30 days of a breeding. I have my own ultrasound machine and can get a good determination of how many puppies are present. It does not give me an exact count. Only way to really narrow down the number of puppies is by an x-ray, around the day mark. I do not conduct my own x-rays and that would require a visit to the animal hospital. To reduce stress on mom and the puppies we do not do x-rays. I get a final count upon delivery keeping mom where she is most comfortable. Delivery of puppies take place in my home around the days after being bred, unless an emergency C-section requires otherwise. Typically, all our puppies are delivered naturally. Someone is always with the mother for the entire delivery. It is very strenuous but has the best outcome for both mom and pups. When all the puppies are born, we will post pictures on the Facebook page. We will then reach out to anyone on our waiting list. If by chance, there are any extra puppies we will make an announcement on Facebook after exhausting our wait list. Sometimes people back out and puppies do come up available at various times. During the initial few days into the few weeks mom and puppies are spending a lot of quality time together. We are keeping a close attention that everyone is gaining weight and seem to be progressing. The pups are handled daily by us. After about 2 weeks eyes and ears will begin to open. The fourth week they are starting to find their legs and moving around exploring. The fifth week if all are doing well, I begin the weaning process where mom is nursing less and less as I introduce kibble to their diet. We begin the deworming process and also begin the first vaccine. We do not travel with the puppies to an animal hospital. I feel it could be stressful for the puppies and creates an opportunity for the puppies to be exposed to other pet sicknesses. I have a traveling vet come and conduct full physicals on all of the puppies. You will receive a copy of her report in the puppy folder upon pickup date. We have outside play areas and toys for them to interact with. They will also be played with by children and handled by adults. They will have several toys to interact with. Obstacles will be in there play pens to learn jumping and crawling. Process Purchasing a Puppy: If you decide that you would like to move forward with getting a puppy, we recommend that you first look at the females and the males that we have. Sometimes the males could change if multiple females come into heat at the same time. We also have an additional tab where you can view planned future breeding so you can have a better idea of potential pairings. Next, I would like to have a phone interview so we can find out more about yourself and the home that a puppy of mine would be going to. In our discussion I would like to know which mother you were leaning towards and whether you prefer a male or female puppy. I can go over all additional questions that you may have including total costs. If both parties are fully satisfied, I will move forward with sending you over the contract. I sell all my puppies with limited AKC registration. Under certain circumstances I will offer full AKC registration for an additional charge. If you are wondering what the difference is between limited and full registration. Limited registration means you can never breed a puppy from me and it will be expected upon proper age that the dog is spayed. Full registration is only for breeders that want to purchase a puppy with intentions of breeding. I am not against giving another breeder full registration however it must be discussed prior, and all requirements must be met that I have. I do require the final payment to be in cash upon pickup of the puppy, so there no issues of bounced checks or issues with sending monies from one bank institution to another. No exceptions. I typically only reserve the first 3 females and the first 3 males as there are no guarantees of how many puppies are born. I go in order of when I am contacted. For an example if you contacted me in May for a female, and John Doe contacted me in January for a female from the same mother then John Doe will get first pick and you would get second pick. It seems to be the fairest method I have come across and will be moving forward with that process unless I discover a better way. I also reserve the right to have first pick so I can sustain my future breeding line as it dictates. I do not allow visitation to the puppies until they are ready for pickup. It also increases the chances for the puppies to get sick and potentially all die from a condition call parvo, as they are not full vaccinated. I have scheduled meetings with individuals that would like to meet me and the adult dogs fully vaccinated prior to making a commitment but not when I have current litters. I would recommend if you want to see the puppies earlier to log into Facebook and follow my page on there. I conduct live videos where you can see all the puppies. After a few weeks old we begin to collar them so you can tell them apart better. I do not place or pick certain pups for certain homes. Some people may not like that due to a puppies drive or behavior. I personally feel training is key to your dogs behavior. You have to spend time with this puppy and be consistent. Goldens just want to please you, but they will test you to learn their place in the household. If you lack experience in training dogs, I do recommend you work with a trainer and read literature so you can achieve the most success with your puppy. You will get an hour to choose your puppy. Please be mindful as I will have others scheduled after your hour of time is completed. I will need some of that time to go over paperwork that is required through the state to complete. I have no problems if you want to bring a trainer or conduct your own tests to see if one puppy might be a better fit based on their opinion. Please be respectful of my property and do not go adventuring around wherever you may like without me being present. Once you pick your puppy and all paperwork has been completed, you will be provided with vet records of your puppy and the vaccines that were previously given. At this time, I do not microchip any puppies. I personally feel the best time to microchip a puppy is when they are sedated which I recommend during the spay. We do require that you schedule an appointment with your vet within 14 days of the pickup date. You may want to schedule this prior to arrival as animal hospitals have been extremely busy. We will have gift bag for you. There will be some surprises in there for your pup, including enough puppy food for the next several days so you can either remain on it or gradually change the food to one of your liking. We highly recommend slowly changing the food over time if you decide to change it as they have extremely sensitive stomachs at this age. Homecoming At 8 weeks of age and after veterinary examination, puppies will be united with their forever families! Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for New York Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. What type of Golden Retrievers are sold in New York? We have some good news! Ready to make your Golden Retriever dreams come true? Take a look at our convenient list of available puppies. How do I know which breeders to trust in New York? Our independent network of trusted breeders have already been pre-screened and verified, so that you can focus on what really matters: choosing your dream puppy. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved.
We receive many of these requests every week. The reality is we just don't have the time to cater to individual families, our time is spent caring for our puppies and family time. Every visitor is a risk to our puppies so we do not allow visitors unless we are holding an event. You will get to see and experience the joy of watching your puppy grow and thrive. Our next open day will be in October when we will have a litter here for families to meet, please check back on this page for details nearer the time. As a tiny pup she grew up in their house lots of breeders say they do this, but the pups are often in an outside shed. She arrived with me at 8 weeks old as a confident well rounded little girl. As an added bonus, she was practically house trained. I would have no hesitation in recommending Southdown Labradoodles. They are really caring breeders who love their dogs and will go the extra mile to make sure every pup gets the very best start in life. After a great amount of searching we found Southdowns Australian Labradoodles. Debbie was both friendly and professional. She was happy to answer any questions we had and we found the puppy information pack really useful. Debbie kept us informed throughout Otties pregnancy. Being able to watch Ottie and the puppies over the webcast was amazing and helped us feel connected to the puppies. We were able to see what a lovely mum Ottie was. Debbie's care of the puppies including making sure they all had the necessary health checks was excellent. The puppies were beautiful and well socialised. Our puppy has a very good temperament, well adjusted although very mischievous. She has bought a lot of joy to our lives and we can't thank Debbie enough. If you are looking for an ethical trustworthy breeder who places the welfare of her dogs and puppies above all else then you would do no better than Debbie. We would definitely recommend her Marie, John and Pebbles New Puppy Owner Adding an Australian Labradoodle to our family is the best decision we have made and we couldn't imagine our lives without our fur baby! They took time to answer all of our questions and as first-time dog owners with young children there were lots!! We were invited to meet them and their dogs when the pups were four weeks old; following this we visited regularly and were always made to feel welcome. We were able to view the puppies via puppy cam at any time and it was lovely to see them grow and develop. Debbie and Tony provided us with expert advice and are clearly very knowledgeable about the breed. We have stayed in touch with Debbie and Tony and meet regularly for dog walks. They have always been on hand with advice and to answer any questions - I recommend them to everyone. All life, whatever you are, is precious! We both were brought up spending school holidays volunteering with our mums at a pony rescue and cats protection league. Animal Welfare is extremely important to both of us and we raise every puppy with the love and care they deserve. We are very lucky to have 3, soon to be 4, healthy children that also play a huge part in raising our dogs and puppies. You will see our children regularly on the puppy cam, playing and even cleaning out the puppies. Alex is chief puppy cleaner and gets very upset if anyone tries to help him as he likes the puppy area to be just perfect. Teaching children compassion and love is very important and we do feel very lucky that we can do that for our children with the love and care we put into our puppies. Being around animals and being able to work with them everyday is not only a passion but a childhood dream. We have worked with dogs for the last 16 years and have a very successful doodle dog grooming salon. This is where our love for Australian labradoodles was born. Out of all the dogs we groom, pedigree and cross breeds in our busy salon, we have never come across a breed of dog that is as wonderful as an Australian labradoodle. Australian labradoodles are born to be a companion, and a dog the whole family can enjoy. Having been brought up in a family that had rescue dogs, rescue cats and rescue chickens, its very important to us that our puppies and dogs are raised to the highest welfare standards, and we will campaign and help other breeders willing to work to the same high standards we have here at Willows Australian Labradoodles. Not every Australian Labradoodle is created equally, so we can't stress enough the importance of buying from a breeder that is doing all the health testing not just one test and then claiming that they are health tested and raised the puppies in a family home. As each person and family plays such an important part of having the highest welfare and the best quality dogs possible. Willows Australian labradoodles East Sussex - Fully License Breeder The proof is in the Puppies A good way of explaining how a good breeder feels is to compare ourselves to a baker. We are making the best possible cake we can! We grow our own organic ingredients, weigh out each ingredient, perfect the perfect mix and put it all together from our years of experience. Then we lovingly place it into the oven and set a timer. Ralph is a beautiful, fun, loving, friendly, gentle and loyal Labradoodle. He always wants to play, and loves attention and cuddles! The breed is named after a region in Europe where the GSDs were originally bred source. Although the name Alsation Dog is rarely heard, it is more popular in Europe and the United Kingdom vs. Regardless of their name, they are one of the most popular dog breeds in both America and Great Britain. Female vs. Male Temperament Female German Shepherds tend to have a gently, friendly disposition. Generally, female GSDs are sweeter and friendlier companions to have around a family. They tend to have a gentle disposition compared to male GSDs. Male GSDs are more territorial in nature. They mark their territory by urination and this can annoy some owners. They are also more likely to have stronger personalities and a proud sense of character. Female German Shepherd dogs are gentle when compared to males. They are more gentle and friendlier towards their family. The female GSD tends to have a higher tolerance for strangers and other people, in general. They can, however, turn more protective when they have a litter of their puppies around. This breed is known to stick closely to their person, which can turn into possessiveness if not corrected early. Having different family members use positive training and taking turns working with your dog can help prevent this issue. Males are considered more aggressive and protective. Both males and females are known to bark to alert their family of people or other dogs in their yards or along the street. Some owners find this makes them an excellent watchdog, but other people, like your neighbors, might not appreciate the barking. Males tend to become more dominant and aggressive, which can increase their protectiveness for their family. They are better suited for protection roles and families without children. But a female German Shepherd will still bark and alert you of strangers and intruders on the property. A prominent dog psychology researcher even named the German Shepherd as the second breed most likely dog to bark as a watchdog source. So, this can be seen as a more protective feature of male German Shepherds. Both sexes have an intimidating bark and are athletic, large dogs — a protective feature that usually scares outsiders. Male vs. Female Size Comparison While there are exceptions to every rule, the male German Shepherd is generally larger than the female German Shepherd. Males also tend to have larger muscles, while females tend to have sleeker muscles. Both males and females should have an athletic form and should not be overweight. A male has a height of 24 to 26 inches at the withers shoulder area , while females are about 22 to 24 inches tall at the withers. The male can weigh up to 95 pounds, while the female typically is lower — anywhere from 75 to 85 pounds. Males may exhibit more protectiveness due to their muscular build and larger size. Female German Shepherds should be considered for families with kids. Research shows that males German Shepherds are more aggressive than female German Shepherds. This means that a family should consider choosing a female for a companion over a male. Males tend to perform better for roles in protection and guarding and could do well in a home without children and the proper training. And both males and females are powerful dogs with lots of energy… including jumping. These traits could make them harder to handle around small kids or children. Generally, female GSDs interact better with children due to their maternal, less dominant nature. And male GSDs tend to be larger, more muscular, and may become too powerful for smaller children. Their large personalities and behavior may push around the kids and they are more aggressive in nature. Females are a better match for a family with children. Children and Training The German Shepherd enjoys the company of children when trained. Even children can learn to control this breed with the right guidance from their parents. While some parents of young children are afraid of choosing the GSD breed due to their size, the main concern comes from properly training the dog and the children to live together. Early training of both parties has the greatest chance of a strong bond between the pair. And parents should not only train the dog themselves but show the children how to train their German Shepherd. Younger children might see their playfulness, such as ear tugging or tail pulling, as cute or funny. Kids must learn to respect the breed, and parents must show their children how to do this in a positive manner. German Shepherds may seem reserved or aloof at first. But, they have a funny sweet side when comfortable with their family and are truly lifelong companions. Both sexes of the breed can become possessive, but males tend to show this behavior more easily. Having different family members train your dog can cut down on overall possessiveness. One-Person Connection Both male and female dogs prefer to have company with their people. They may develop anxiety when left alone or not given the proper attention for long periods of time. Their personality can become demanding for attention, so when you choose a German Shepherd, know they want your undivided attention and will suffer without it. Male German Shepherds tend to pick one person with whom they bond the strongest. This can lead to possessiveness or overprotection of this individual. German Shepherds are one of the smartest dog breeds to own. They are highly intelligent and have a natural curiosity to learn new commands and behaviors. German Shepherds are ready for you to train them daily and are easier to train compared to many other dog breeds. Males can also become more dominant, especially as they mature, and may become difficult for you to train. While females tend to want to appease their owners more readily and are better suited to a new owner. Training a German Shepherd The most important and best way to train a German Shepherd is through positive training, which engates their minds and bodies. Choose a positive training program that you find fun and will participate in almost daily. For the best results use these tips: Start training as a young puppy to develop the good habits you want. Keep the training sessions short, especially for puppies. Use a high-value reward that is also healthy — choose from this list of GSD treats: The Healthiest Treats for a German Shepherd Enroll in a training program that uses their mental ability to increase your bond With plenty of training the right way, you may find your German Shepherd, both male and female, excels at sports, such as agility and rally obedience. And, this breed is a true tracker with their excellent scenting abilities. Certain traits make male German Shepherds better as police and military working dogs. Female German Shepherds are used in police and military service, but they are generally outnumbered by male German Shepherds. This is in part to selective breeding for certain traits, such as: Aggressiveness Size and build Athletic ability As working dog breeders tend to choose these traits over others they may choose male dogs that fit this profile. So, more male GSDs wind up in police and military dog units. As mentioned previously, males dogs also make better working dogs in the protection service due to not only their larger size, but their protection and aggression drive. These drives are highly sought after in the police fields for K-9 units. Male German Shepherds are seen as more intimidating and male handlers may even want to choose a male working partner over a female as male dogs are seen as more tough and rugged. Both male and female GSDs have a tough exterior that makes them suitable for military and police work. When a female goes into heat she is more distracted and less likely to listen to commands and become more moody. Other male dogs would also make it impossible to have a female GSD around unless she was spayed. Female German Shepherds are in heat generally twice a year, or about every 6 months. This schedule also coincides with the blowing of their coat. She will generally be in heat for about 21 days, though this can differ from dog to dog. There is some bleeding that is noticeable, so many owners prefer to keep their female GSD secure in an easy to clean room with hard floors, away from the male dogs. A female GSD can begin her heat cycle as young as 6 months old. This may vary anywhere between 6 months to 1 year, depending on their individual genetics. On average, she will come into her heat cycle every 6 months, though this could be as early as every 4 months for some females. Being in estrus, or in season in heat can make a female dog moody and temporarily change its behavior and personality. This is normal, but owners should be aware of this difference in their female dogs. Owners must secure and contain their females to avoid any unnecessary mating and unwanted litters. All males within a short and long distance can smell a female in heat, so due caution must be taken. Health Concerns This breed is susceptible to a number of health concerns that you should consider before choosing a German Shepherd. Only adopt or choose your dog from a respectable breeder that has completed the necessary testing for their health. Some issues the German Shepherd is susceptible to include: Hip Dysplasia. Like many large breeds, a German Shepherd dog is not considered fully grown until they are about 18 months old. Female German Shepherds continue to fill out until they are around two years old, while the male German Shepherd growth rate continues until they reach two and a half years of age. Males are larger and require more time to fill out their chest and abdomen. As you can see by the German Shepherd weight chart, these dogs can continue to grow until they are three years old, but the majority of growth occurs within 24 months. If your GSD is older than 36 months and continues to put on weight, contact your veterinarian to ensure weight gain does not lead to obesity. How big should a 6-month-old German Shepherd be? A six-month-old German Shepherd puppy will be quite large, as many German Shepherds undergo massive growth spurts between two and five months old. By six months, a male German Shepherd will weigh 53 pounds on average, whereas a female will weigh about 46 pounds. How much bigger will my German Shepherd get? There are a few ways to gauge how much bigger a German Shepherd will get. First, check your puppy's age. If your GSD is younger than two years old, they definitely have room to keep growing! Another way to tell if your pup still has a lot of growing to do is their paw size. Do their paws look large compared to their legs and body? This is a classic adolescent feature of a dog and means your pup is likely still growing! Most of the time, a dog will not grow bigger than its larger parents. What is the size of a full-grown German shepherd? An adult male German Shepherd is typically 24 to 26 inches tall, while adult female German Shepherds are 22 to 24 inches tall, according to the American Kennel Club German Shepherd Standard. The estimated full-size varies significantly between sexes. In terms of weight, an adult male German Shepherd weighs anywhere from 75 to 90 pounds. A female German Shepherd weighs notably less at 55 to 70 pounds. Please keep in mind that these numbers are only estimates to give you an idea of how much bigger a German Shepherd puppy may get. Some dogs will be both smaller and larger than these weight ranges when fully grown due to a variety of genetic and environmental factors. Learn all about your puppy's physical characteristics, breed history, personality traits, and more in our comprehensive guide. Preventive care is key in helping your German Shepherd live a healthy and long life. Helping your dog maintain an optimal weight is one of the best things you can do for their health. Taking your German Shepherd to regular veterinary appointments is one of the best things you can do to ensure that they are healthy and feeling their best. Compare German Shepherd health insurance plans before they get sick or injured. They are also more susceptible to gastrointestinal tract and hip issues. A veterinarian should regularly assess your pet for these health problems and run tests for anything they may be more prone to due to their breed. Treatment for many conditions, including bloat and GI issues, can cost thousands of dollars. Dog insurance is a wise investment that can give you peace of mind by covering pet emergency expenses. Male vs. Dec 12, Both male and female German shepherd dogs make fantastic active family pets. They are great family guardians and companions. Both are extremely smart and easy to train. Both need lots of exercise, guidance, and socialization. As with any breed, there are subtle differences between the sexes. In German shepherds, these differences can vary greatly due to their breeding. For example, a German working line shepherd is more active than the more low-key American show line dog. The German shepherd dog is considered a medium sized dog. However, there are many breeders producing large or even giant shepherds. Physical Appearance: Male German shepherds are slightly larger than female German shepherds, with deeper chests. They are typically heavier boned, more muscular, and have larger heads. Females are inches high and weigh 50 to 70 pounds. Male shepherds tend to have a more masculine look about them while female shepherds have narrower heads, narrower snouts, and are more feminine around the eyes. One can usually guess which shepherd is the male or female simply by looking at them. Characteristics As with any breed, the upbringing of the dog plays a huge role in how a dog behaves. Dogs that are raised in a secure, social environment act very different than dogs that lack leadership and affection. German shepherds that lack training and guidance can suffer from behavior problems, no matter what sex they are. How they are raised from puppyhood is crucial to their personality development. In general, both sexes are typically confident, loyal, and athletic. Both are smart and, as herding dogs, naturally alert and protective. Both dogs can be aloof, however, their upbringing and socialization plays a huge role in how they greet strangers and new situations. The males tend to be pushier, bolder and more aggressive than the females. However, many German shepherd dog owners will tell you their female is moodier than their male. Since females are naturally more maternal, they can also be more reactive than males. Males tend to be more possessive. Many German shepherd owners will also say that their males are more affectionate and goofy while their females are more reserved. That is not to say that females are not as sweet, some just may not be as cuddly. Both sexes are extremely curious about everything going on in their household. Unspayed dogs may exhibit more extreme differences. Unspayed females can be more moody than a male dog. However, an unaltered male can become more frustrated when a female is in heat. Both can be more inattentive to their family during these times. An unaltered male will be more prone to marking and guarding his territory. Personalities German shepherds are a dominate breed and need training from a young age. Both sexes are equally smart and will try to rule the house and outwit their owners if given the chance. Most owners will tell you that males tend to vie for dominance more often than females while the females are more laid back. Both sexes bond strongly with their family. The more maternal female shepherd tends to attach themselves to the entire family while the males can become more bonded to one person. That is not to say the male will not be attached to other people in the family, it simply means they have a tendency to play favorites. All in all, although there are differences between both sexes, their breeding, rearing, and how well socialized they are is more important to their personality development than their sex. These traits are simply generalities and not hard and fast rules. You can learn a lot about the future personality of a dog by understanding their lineage and providing a stable, loving home with lots of guidance and training. A German shepherd dog that is well loved, well trained, and secure will return that love and respect in great measure-it does not matter if they are a male or female. I will examine the unique temperament, personality, and characteristics of these gorgeous girls, and to help you decide which gender is the right fit for you. Male vs Female German Shepherds For some people, aside from simple size, weight, and height considerations, there really is no important or measurable difference between a male and a female German shepherd. But for other people, even the subtle differences between a male and a female German shepherd can be sufficiently important to make one gender a preferable choice to the other in certain specific situations. Female German Shepherd size, height, and weight One of the most obvious general distinctions about the female GSD is that she is generally leaner, smaller, and shorter than her male counterpart. The female GSD stands 22 to 24 inches high paw to shoulder , a full two inches shorter than the male. And the female GSD will weigh between 50 and 70 pounds, which makes her about 15 pounds lighter than the adult male. Coat Color and Pattern The bi-color coat pattern is the most common and recognized color for the German shepherd dog of either gender. In most cases, you will find a black female German shepherd that displays one other secondary coat color, either cream, red, tan, or silver. In certain cases, you may see a single-color GSD in blue, gray, liver, sable, or white, although these are not breed standard colors and may render your dog at fault or deemed ineligible certainly in the case of the white coat color for the show ring. There is no gender-related differentiation in overall coat color or pattern that is seen in the male versus female German shepherd. Female German Shepherd Personality The German shepherd female temperament can also show marked differences in behavior and personality that can be related back to her gender. Whether these differences are present and how apparent they may be will vary depending on the traits of the specific parent dogs, which is why it is important to be able to meet and get to know each parent dog as you are selecting between male and female German shepherd puppies. More likely to bond equally with more than one family member aside from the principle person responsible for training and meals. May be easier to train and more sensitive to commands and cues. Possibly a better pick for service dog or therapy dog work. Good for rally, agility, and obedience training due to lighter weight, smaller size, and more graceful body structure. Less apt to become territorial in the presence of strangers. Female German Shepherd Training The GSD is currently the second most popular family pet dog in America, and this is for good reason, but ongoing regular socialization and puppy training is a huge reason why! This is one of the most intelligent of all dog breeds! Your German shepherd has an incredibly strong work ethic with tremendous drive and focus while on the job. They will also bond strongly with the entire family. Positive training methods focus on delivering praise, playtime, pets, and treats in response to well-learned tasks and commands. German shepherds of either gender are hands-down one of the most popular police and K-9 dogs in the world. Some of these are German shepherd mix dogs while others are purebred GSDs. Socialization Everyone in the family should play a part in feeding and training your new pup. This will go a long way towards developing her tendency to bond closely with each family member. Make sure that she meets lots of strangers outdoors and at home. The window for socialization closes around 16 weeks old, so your first few weeks together are going to be busy. While a female German shepherd is lighter and shorter, she will still be strong from the get-go! Choosing the right collar and lead system will help you. Female German shepherds will need plenty of early socialization with young children in the family and with other family pets. Young children in particular will need to be supervised at all times in interactions with your female GSD puppy! Children may be unintentionally rougher with a puppy that can be easily tolerated and this can lead to preventable incidents. These issues include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cardiac issues, eye issues, autoimmune thyroiditis, and degenerative myelopathy. Only hip and elbow dysplasia are currently required tests for reputable breeders, with the remainder being optional recommended health tests. German shepherds can sometimes contract a blood disease called hemophilia A. Female German shepherd dogs are usually carriers and, unlike males with the genes for the condition, will not show symptoms. There is a health test to detect this disease, which is present from birth. Idiopathic Epilepsy Interestingly, this condition is less likely to impact female German shepherd dogs than males. The reason is not yet known, although researchers suspect there may be several genes polygenetic involved. German Shepherd Spaying Having an un neutered female dog is inconvenient, but only for a few weeks of the year. Spaying is a commonly carried out procedure, but it does come with some risks. Certain health conditions are more common in girls that are spayed before 12 months old. This is because spaying gets rid of some important hormones. Urinary incontinence, mammary cancer and joint disorders are all more likely is your girl is neutered before a year old. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article.

It either has a short, little stump or a very small screw tail. Colors include various brindles, white with brindle or any mixture of brindle, black, white, tan, fawn or red. Valley Bulldogs have very strong teeth and jaws and can either have a slight or extreme under-bite. It can be very calm and gentle and suddenly act really silly and playful. It loves to clown around and loves to be around its human owners. Valley Bulldogs are intelligent and can be taught many things quite easily. They make excellent watchdogs in the house and will bark at sounds that they don't recognize. They love to go for drives in the car! This is a very strong dog. Like all mastiff type breeds, the Valley Bulldog should have a dominant owner who can provide enough exercise. One who can give the dog the rules it must follow and the leadership it instinctually needs to stay balanced, in order to avoid any unwanted behaviors. Height, Weight Height: 12 - 25 inches 31 - 64 cm Weight: 50 - pounds 23 - 57 kg 16 - 25 inches in length, 18 - 24 inch neck. Health Problems A great deal of attention must be given to keeping the folds of the skin on the face very clean and dry, as well as the folds of skin in the tail area. These areas are highly prone to infection if they are not cleaned daily. They seem to have a tendency to get skin irritations and allergic reactions. An overweight Valley Bulldog can be a problem if its diet isn't monitored properly. Some Valley Bulldogs may have a problem breathing, depending upon how pushed in the snout is. They sometimes snore and can be rather flatulent at times. Drool is not usually a problem unless the dog is subjected to excessive heat or if it is waiting for a special treat. Living Conditions The Valley Bulldog doesn't need a whole lot of space inside the house because it is not a huge breed. It can do quite well in an apartment or condo. However, it is very active indoors at times. It will become quite wound up at times and go on a quick little rampage, running around the house like crazy. It doesn't matter what size your house is, it will still do it. The rampage will only last a few minutes, so just get out of the way and let your dog run. It's quite funny to watch. These dogs should not be left outside in the cold or excessive heat. They should sleep indoors. Exercise The Valley Bulldog needs daily exercise, which includes a brisk, long walk. They are very athletic dogs because they have Boxer in them; however, don't forget they have English Bulldog in them as well, so some can tend to be a little bit clumsy. They can run like a deer, however, when they need to slow down, it's not the most graceful thing. It's more like a tank that can go at high speeds. They love some good, safe chew toys of their own and a place to run free off the lead in a safe area. They are very strong chewers, so tough, durable toys are required. Life Expectancy. Weight These lovely dogs might weigh between kg, with no clear distinction between males and females. There is no penalty for heavier dogs when showing them — a well-proportioned dog is more important. Height Males are 38 cm at the shoulder and females cm at the shoulder. It has an excellent lifespan if properly looked after. There are a few health problems though that owners should be aware of. Skin Irritations They are prone to skin irritations due to the skin folds on their faces. Should there be a build-up of filth and food on the face, infections can occur. The skin folds must, therefore, be regularly cleaned. Allergies Due to its broad muzzle, the breed can be affected by allergies and breathing problems. Monitor Diet They are greedy eaters! They can easily be overfed and get obese. Small portions and regular exercise are very important. Their size is medium, and for this reason, they can be kept in-or outdoors. Indoors These dogs will do well in a condo or an apartment. If they are kept indoors like this, they will enjoy a long, brisk walk at least once every day. It will help curb any destructive behavior that they may have. They are calm and easygoing around the house. Outdoors If kept outdoors, they must have lots of room to run and play. They must also get regular attention from their family. Backyard games will be a firm favorite. These beautiful small-sized dogs are expected to live a minimum of 9 years and can get to 14 years old if well looked after. Like a baby duck Their puppies and baby ducks rate equally regarding cuteness! There are usually little scrunched-up face puppies in a litter. Newborn puppies weigh about grams at birth. Litter mates can vary in size. Due to their short, sleek coat, they need low maintenance and are easy to groom. They shed hair, and regular brushing of their short and stiff coat is recommended. These folds are on the face, the tail area, the belly, and the feminine parts of female dogs. Skin infections can flare up quickly in this breed, so it is best to keep an eye on the dog and clean its folds every two days. There are washes specially formulated for this task on the market, and they are quite effective. Bath time It is not necessary to bathe the dog every week. They love water, but bathing is only required occasionally if the dog is really dirty. They do enjoy the quality time with their owners, though! They can actually just be wiped down with a wet cloth if needed. Chewers These Bulldogs love chewing stuff, and they would need durable toys to play with and chew. Be sure to get them well-made toys that will last a long time. Otherwise, they will find their things to chew! Dry dog food Dry dog food that is suitable for bulldog breeds is recommended feeding for this dog breed. It is best to give the dog two meals per day. It is necessary to monitor their eating, as they are prone to over-eating and obesity if left to their own devices. This Bulldog is a muscular, active dog and would need vigorous exercise every day. They are the perfect exercise partners and owners who enjoy exercise will have a wonderful, involved companion. If kept outdoors, with room for running, sufficient exercise should be no problem. Playtime If you have an indoor dog, he would need long walks and play periods. The dog puppies and adults love swimming, running, jumping for Frisbees, and playing with balls. These cute-looking dogs are intelligent and quick to train. They are well-behaved and therefore can grasp commands very easily. They also do well with learning tricks. They are an excellent match for first-time owners. The Leader of the pack This Bulldog wants its owner to be the leader of the pack. Therefore, they would need to be handled in a firm, but gentle manner. Sometimes their independence and stubbornness can get the upper hand, if not handled firmly. It is a good idea to begin training them from an early age. As they love their humans, treat rewards, applause, cuddles, and praise will go a long way in training this breed. Thanks, Boxer! Thanks to the inbreeding of the Boxer genes, these breeds rarely suffer from severe issues. It is advisable to keep an eye on such a dog in hot weather to avoid the danger of overheating. These dogs can sometimes snore heavily. Drool is usually not a problem unless the dog is waiting for a special treat! Skin allergies These dogs might be prone to skin irritations, especially during adolescence. Usually, this will clear up in adulthood. These skin allergies are commonly associated with yeast, so a proper diet for these dogs is vital. Skin growths and tumors are sometimes found in this breed, but it is rare. Fold-care Folds on the face and tail areas are highly prone to infection if not cleaned regularly. Diet Their diet must be watched as they can sometimes overeat. Diet monitoring is advised. Conclusion Valley Bulldogs give their owners years of companionable pleasure. They are easy to care for and the ideal family dog. Post navigation. labradoodle puppies in berkshire - Life Span Did You Know? The Pug, or Pug Dog, is famous for its flat-faced appearance and large, soulful eyes. They are an ancient dog breed that originated in China over 2, years ago. They were originally developed as a refined pet of Chinese royalty along with the Pekingese and the Shih Tzu. During this time, the Pug was considered a national treasure that outsiders could only access if one was gifted to them. Dutch traders from the s can be credited with bringing the Pug onto the world stage when they brought some back to Europe with them. The Pug made its way to the United States in the s. Now, the Pug is a popular dog breed worldwide. They are a popular companion that provides their owners with plenty of love and laughter from their comedic and playful antics. The Pug is a playful and outgoing dog breed with a charming personality. They tend to be very loving towards children and also get along well with other pets and dogs. They are a companion breed at heart known for their gentle nature and sociable personality. They love to give love and receive it in return. Their sensitive nature makes them intuitive as well and Pugs will often sense the moods of their owners and react accordingly. They crave attention and affection from their owners and are big fans of napping. This dog breed is often described as an ideal house dog and they are moderately adaptable. They will do well in homes of any size, including apartments. The Pug also adapts well to city or country life and are a good fit for singles or families of any size. Although they are highly adaptable to various living situations, they are less adaptable to climates. Pugs are very sensitive to the heat and overexertion, so they are best-suited to moderate climates. They also love to be with their families and will not be happy if left alone for a long time. As with any dog breed, the Pug has some health conditions to be aware of. In particular, corneal ulcers and dry eye are some potential eye problems that can occur. Additionally, Pugs can be susceptible to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and encephalitis. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see health clearances can help allay concerns for some of these health issues. Pugs are also big foodies. They love to eat! Their love for food means this dog breed is prone to obesity. As a brachycephalic dog, their large head and short snout often cause respiratory problems, which can limit their exercise at times and contribute to weight gain. This will cause them to quickly gasp and snort, which can sound relatively alarming. These episodes are usually not harmful as your Pug is just clearing their palate and throat. The Pug tends to be easy to train and is a good fit for owners of any experience level. They are eager to please their owners and tend to pick up on commands quickly. They are sensitive souls and their feelings can be hurt easily, so they will not respond well to harsh corrections. Their fur is fine and soft. Although their coat is generally low-maintenance, it will shed throughout the year. Aside from brushing, Pugs only need occasional baths on an as-needed basis. Because Pugs have ears that drop down, they can be susceptible to moisture, dirt, or debris. Checking their ears regularly and cleaning as needed helps to keep them healthy and comfortable. The same goes for their iconic face wrinkles. Daily brushing is ideal, but if your Pug is not allowing you to do that, a few times a week should be sufficient. Getting your Pug used to these grooming tasks as a puppy will help make it a positive bonding experience and a much easier process throughout their life. This dog breed has a low to moderate energy level. Generally, daily walks and some play sessions are enough exercise for this dog breed. They may have short bursts of energy as they have a very playful nature, but they will tire easily. Some Pugs can handle a little more activity and even compete in some dogs sports like agility, rally, and obedience. Make sure you check with your vet first before jumping into dog sports with your dog. A full-grown Pug will usually stand 10 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 14 and 18 pounds. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time.
