Thus, it will do good for both you and your pet. First, however, you must pick your future pet to adopt from a good rescue. Rescue should have active and preventative programs to reduce animal killing. The Rescue or Shelter must have an aggressive public education about overpopulation. Further, they should exert efforts to apply differential licensing. Thus, a good rescue should comply by neutering all animals before going to their new homes. All these should always direct towards the well-being of the animals. A clean and comfortable place means the animals are also well-cared. Further, it echoes a skilled, compassionate, and good hygiene and healthcare program. How do I pick a good rescue Golden Retriever? Thus, you may want to do the following in choosing a good Golden Retriever. Observe the dog Most shelters have an observation room for you to do this. If it has none, just do your best to find some quiet place. As soon as the dog gets comfortable, you may start observing. The Golden Retriever should be friendly. It should come at you with no hesitation, sniff you, or even jump for attention. If you see it exhibits exciting behavior, like tail wagging, it means it wants you to pet him. Thus, you need to give it different tones and noise, especially with your voice. Touch the dog with caution Shelter or rescue dogs are usually under stress. Thus, you always need to be cautious when touching it. You may also see how it reacts when you touch it. A Golden Retriever likes getting touched or petted. Thus, if you cautiously touch it and begs for more, it can be a good sign for you. Other things you can note would be tail-wagging and endless sniffing and licking. Play with the dog Since Golden Retrievers are playful by nature, you should also play with the dog. Moreover, you need to take note of how well it interacts as it plays. Golden Retrievers are born to play. Thus, it should get excited upon seeing a ball or any other toys. At other times, excitement means circling and moving enthusiastically. Walk with the dog Golden Retrievers like to walk, so you may want to test that out as well. Observe how it reacts when on a leash or when it sees other dogs, people, or anything on the road. A good Golden Retriever does well with walking. So anything it sees around, like cars, bikes, or even other people and animals, would draw its attention. Let the dog interact with other dogs or animals. It may or may not be possible, but you may ask to observe how the dog interacts with other animals. It will also be necessary if you have other pets at home. Golden Retrievers play and interact well with other pets. Thus, if you have a pet at home, it would be great to take it to the shelter and allow it to play with the dog. The peak of Atlantic hurricane season is here which is why it's important to take some time to reflect on disaster preparedness. As unlikely as it may seem, a disaster can strike at any moment. Whether it's a fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, or blizzard, it's critical to be prepared and have a plan in place. Unfortunately, pets are sometimes unintentionally left out of their owners' disaster preparedness plans which makes it difficult to know what to do with them during an emergency. Luckily, you can plan ahead for your pets using these tips: Listen to your veterinarian Make sure your pet wears a collar with up to date information on it, get them microchipped, and have them vaccinated. These recommendations will come in handy during a disaster and help you avoid any potential pitfalls, such as being unable to get into a shelter with an unvaccinated pet or losing them during an evacuation. If possible, take your pet's medical records with you and attach their rabies tag to their collar. Find out which shelters allow pets Do some research into where you can safely evacuate with your pet during a state of emergency before a disaster occurs. Your local police department can typically give you this information. If not, they'll likely be able to point you in the direction of someone who can. Though unfortunate, it is not true that hotels must accept pets during evacuations, so please keep that in mind while planning ahead. Prepare a pet disaster kit In a suitcase or other easily movable storage container, pack food and water bowls, a manual can opener, two weeks' worth of canned food and bottled water per pet, plastic poop bags for dogs , litter and a small litter box for cats , and two weeks' worth of any medications your pet may need. You should also pack cleaning items, sturdy leashes and harnesses, toys, and a copy of your pet's medical records. For small animals and cats, have a carrier ready. Use this checklist to prepare. Create handouts Create an identification handout and a boarding instruction handout. Have both ready to go at a moment's notice. They should contain important information, such as your pet's name, age, sex, markings, microchip number, allergies, and vaccination status. If you get separated from your pet, make sure you're safe before you begin your search. If you're in a shelter that houses pets, inform a caretaker and provide them with the identification handout. Once you've been given the OK to leave the shelter and return home, contact animal control and call the microchip company to make sure all information about you and your pet is current. Stay safe out there! Some dogs become comfort or therapy dogs, while others are champion security systems. Dudley's adopters, however, found he is quit the poet!! The so-called seller initially asked her to send money via the Zelle app but she didn't know how that worked. He suggested she buy Visa gift cards. She was asked to take a picture of the Visa cards, the front and the back, and then a picture of the receipt. And she emailed those photos to the seller. She spotted real trouble when someone else involved in the scam alerted her that a special, thermal electronic crate would be needed due to weather conditions. I don't have that kind of money,' " she told me. But Reddout couldn't do that either. She cannot get a hold of him and hasn't seen a dime of anything. And she hasn't been able to tell her friends or relatives the story of the scam, the first time anyone ripped her off. She's too afraid that they'll think it was her fault for sending money and not spotting the fraud. Puppy scams tap into need for affection Puppy scams are huge. And frankly, it's one scam where I easily could imagine myself as a victim. We lost our dear corgi Phoenix Tiger, who would have turned 14 in January, back in October. As my son Matt wrote so eloquently, Phoenix "loved people. He touched the hearts of everyone he met. He was my best friend on my worst days. Phoenix was an amazingly smart dog who helped me cook, including heading out to find me in another room when the oven buzzer went off. He had a flair for wearing bow ties, showing kindness to small children and knowing how to work the room. Longtime readers might recall the column I wrote in about when Phoenix chewed up some cash left on my son's bed when he rushed off to a high school football game. Our family loved him dearly. The three of us shared his final moments at an emergency hospital in Novi. And I felt compelled to turn to my son before we had to put the corgi down and to say: "Matt, you know I love you more than the dog. Not surprisingly, the crooks advertise breeds that are popular and promise a great price. Consumer watchdogs saw a major uptick in pet scam complaints during the pandemic, as people sought companionship and rationalized that they had more time alone at home to train a puppy. The Michigan Department of Attorney General has received a total of pet scam complaints since .The consumer reported to the Michigan Department of Attorney General that the family had gotten their hopes up but then everything fell apart and they felt heartbroken. They never received a refund or the kitten. The consumer was told not to tell the clerk at the store that the gift cards were being bought to pay for a dog because "they would charge me more for the gift cards. The largest group of victims by age are those , followed by those .Google took legal action in April against an operation using Gmail accounts and Google Voice accounts to impersonate sellers of basset hounds and Maltipoo puppies. A flying squirrel? The woman had two flying squirrels as pets but the female had died and she worried that the surviving male squirrel would get lonely. The problem is that she found the female on an exotic pets website, which was an imposter site managed by scammers. She asked to use PayPal but she was told that she needed to use the Zelle app, Nofziger said, noting that peer-to-peer apps are increasingly popular with scammers who want instant cash. She said no at that point. Many times, Nofziger said, extra charges can sound reasonable to a potential pet owner — fees to test for COVID, fees for a special certificate for the airlines, fees for a special crate. But it's a way for scammers to get more money. Nofziger speculated that some shoppers are going online now looking for more unusual pets, such as raccoons, with the hope of finding the next TikTok star. And the scammers know it. The social media angle for racoons seems more likely than trying to re-create the roaring s when Rebecca the raccoon was a presidential pet. The scammers try to make you feel that you've got a connection already with the pet in the photo. As part of her research, Nofziger exchanged texts with a cat scammer in February to see their ploy. The scammers immediately sent her pictures. And the scammer says "nannys" — yes, misspelled — would be there to take care of the cat until he reaches your home. Nofziger told me she's amazed at how well-versed the scammers are about the traits of a very specific breed or animal. The scammers do their homework to know everything about that type of cat or dog to manipulate you into believing that you're talking with a professional breeder — and build up your dream of finding a loving pet. Those puppy dog eyes will trick you The deal might look real because the con artists will send pictures — and even videos — and then ask for a down payment, said Lauren Schalk, a spokeswoman for the Better Business Bureau Serving Eastern Michigan. The BBB's "12 Scams of Christmas" includes pet scams, noting that many families will consider "adding a furry friend to their household this year. The thing is that the dogs in the photos aren't really sitting around the house hounding the scammers to take them on a walk or toss them another peanut butter pretzel. Con artists just steal cute pictures of dogs and other pets from the internet. Crooks only need a domain name — not the actual dog — to engage in fraud. It's kind of like those romance scams. That hunk of a doctor in the photo isn't the real guy texting you. And like the love connection who is overseas and cannot go to dinner, the adorable puppy is out of state and cannot jump on your lap. It's terribly cruel to target someone who wants a companion. Maybe, they even lost a loved one or a beloved pet. For those who are honest, it can be hard to imagine that someone would steal an attractive photo to toy with someone's emotions. But it happens, way too often. Earlier this year, consumers were warned about scams that even involved adopting puppies from war-torn Ukraine. How to spot a scam How do you protect your wallet — and your heart? Unfortunately, it's best to be skeptical of any photo that you see online. Fake listings can appear on Craigslist or Facebook. Some scammers even try to pretend to be reputable breeders by stealing personal information from the breeders, according to an alert from the American Kennel Club. Talk with a few breeders to get an idea of the cost of a puppy for particular breed. The AKC Marketplace is one spot to find breeders. The AKC does not certify breeders. When it comes to getting a healthy puppy, Munden said, any reputable breeder will have had the puppy examined and already have begun their vaccination cycle. Ask for paperwork. Follow up with your own vet and finish the vaccination cycle to ensure your puppy is fully protected. Seeing the puppy in person is key. It's usually, Munden said, in the best interest of the puppy for the new owner to go and pick up the puppy. The Michigan Department of Attorney General says if you are unable to see a dog in person, see if the breeder is willing to do video chat. Or even "send you a photo or video with your name and the date written on a piece of paper next to the puppy. Be sure to do this before making any sort of deposit. Know that customer testimonials can be fake, just like the pictures. If you spot the same text — or photo — on other websites, you might conclude that the breeder is likely a scammer. Michigan consumers who believe they have been a victim of a scam can file a complaint with the AG's Consumer Protection Division online at mi. Or contact the Federal Trade Commission at or www. Some red flags of puppy scams are similar to other scams: Sellers create a sense of urgency to buy now; they want payments in odd forms, like gift cards, bitcoin or Zelle; and they're not really answering your questions. Never use Zelle or a money transfer service from your bank to buy a puppy. Try to use a credit card whenever possible. Once you buy gift cards or send money via Zelle, the crooks will soon come up with other reasons for you to send more cash. Many of the puppy scams of late include last-minute, unexpected added medical or transportation costs, which only put more money in the pockets of the scammers. It didn't make sense why the person delivering "Gemma" couldn't just take that crate back without her making a big, unexpected payment upfront. Contact Susan Tompor: stompor freepress. They are good dogs, but they have drawbacks just like everything. Even if you keep their coat short, they get burs worse than a lab. My goldens couldn't handle cold water as well as labs I hunted with.Maybe it was just my dogs. The one thing that I didn't like about the goldens I had growing up is they took a long time to settle down. One dog settled down when he was 2 and the other didn't settle down until he was 3ish. I know labs can be the same, but I bought a British lab two years ago and this dog starting settling down at 6 months. By one year old he was pretty damn good, very calm, and well behaved. I know British labs have been "trendy" and there's some questionable breeding. However, there is different behavioral characteristic between American bred and UK bred field lines. Namely, in the way field trails are run. Allot of the field trial winners in the US wouldn't be bred in the UK because they favor different characteristics in their dogs, and field trial winners get bred allot. I've watched some videos of US field trials and allot of those dogs have real bad "creep" that I would never allow my dog to get away with. I'm not sure if my dog would ever be capable of a yard blind but he is capable of a yard blind and that's all I need from him. UK field trial dogs are eliminated if they make any noise. My dog never barks, ever, and he doesn't whine. That's an ingrained trait. If I was strictly a grouse hunter I would have a pointer. If I strictly pheasant hunted I would probably import an english springer from the UK. Those dogs are serious pheasant hunters! I've never seen more drive then from an English springer from good UK field trial lines. For an all around hunting dog, that's good around the house, it's a lab from UK field trial lines. I'm on the waitlist for another lab currently, but after one of my dogs passes away my partner wants to get a golden. I told her it has to be from good hunting lines so we'll see how it matches up. Shout out to McFarmer for the rescue mutt hunting dog. He was a great hunter. Not a ton of drive but methodical and he had a good nose. I got allot of stares hunting with that dog. I'm surprised no one ever mentions field bred standard poodles on here? I've talked to a few trainers who have trained them and they are apparently super smart and easy to train. Very good hunters, and great family dogs.
Sebaceous Adenitis Of course, this is just a list to give you a general direction. You can read up more about the several health concerns on the club sites and further resources on the Golden Retriever and the Poodle club. Disclaimer: This is not medical advice and you should ask your vet if you have any questions pertaining to a specific case. Since many dog breeds are the product of poor breeding, it can be debated whether or not your average Goldendoodle really has the best of both worlds. While these two breeds are not a contrast in terms of temperament, they are different in various aspects. Of course, Poodles are no guard dogs but they can definitely be more suspicious of strangers or at the very least, be quite reserved with them. With the family, both dogs should ideally be calm according to their respective breed standards. However, the Retriever side needs to be physically exercised and mentally stimulated. Make no mistake to assume the Poodle is a couch potato, they can be quite active too. Is it better to get a male or female Goldendoodle? As with any dog breed, whether you should get a male or female dog depends on a lot of factors. You also have to make sure your potential new dog gets along with the existing dog which is often a real challenge, especially with rescues. Part of that is owed to fact that females are generally smaller than males. However, there are very calm males out there while females can have lots of behavioral issues, depending on their previous environment and training or lack thereof. Which is better: Goldendoodle or Labradoodle? Both breeds are created with the Poodle as foundation and the Golden Retriever on one side and the Labrador on the other side. The Goldie and the Lab are two of the most popular dogs in the United States and various other countries around the world. Do Goldendoodles Shed? Yes, Goldendoodles shed. Goldendoodles are not hypoallergenic dog breeds. Photo by Lopolo on Shutterstock If you have canine allergies, you can definitely react allergic to this crossbreed and you should not believe any breeder or rescue that tells you otherwise. It may very well be that you react to other dogs while not reacting to the Golden Retriever Poodle mix but that is sheer coincidence. How Much Do Goldendoodles Cost? That does not scare breeders away from charging absurd amounts for their mixes. Yes, breeding can be expensive. Selecting the perfect stud, going to the vet for check-ups, health testing, puppy food, socialisation and club certificates or the lack thereof are all costs associated with breeding. Do not shy away from going the extra mile and paying more for your dog of choice. Do you have a Goldendoodle? Share with us your experiences in the comments below! The resulting dog is a genetic gamble in terms of health and temperament and offers no advantage to a health-tested, properly selected purebred puppy. Lifespan Sociability Most Goldendoodle puppies come from first-generation breeding and are rarely bred together. This makes a rare and somewhat difficult puppy to find. Goldendoodles can have big variations in size depending on the parents. Keep this in mind when going to see one, as you might not be unable to resist! Hypoallergenic While no dog is completely hypoallergenic, the Goldendoodle comes close. Most Goldendoodles hardly shed their coats, making them a great choice for owners with allergies. That said, they can still have dandruff, and their saliva and urine can also set off allergies. Extremely friendly Goldendoodles are extremely friendly, almost to a fault. They are known for hardly ever barking, even when there is a loud knocking at the door. Water loving Goldendoodles have an almost universal, innate love for water. They are known for leaping into any body of water they see, whether it be a pool, river, or the sea. Also, you may want to stand back when they get out, as their thick coat can shake off impossible amounts of water! They are a highly playful breed who loves to socialize and be around their owners as much as possible. They are especially great if you have children around, as they are full of energy and love to play. Dry dog pellets high in myriad nutrients are ideal, but larger Goldendoodles will benefit greatly from additional protein. Pellets are also great for general dental hygiene and helpful in removing tartar buildup. Dry food should be supplemented with good quality canned wet food, which is a good way to add moisture to their diet. Goldendoodles can be fairly susceptible to food allergies. Common food allergies come from foods like corn, soy, and dairy and should be avoided wherever possible. Like all dogs, your Goldendoodle needs constant access to fresh, clean water. Dogs need around calories per pound per day to maintain a healthy weight, and the average Goldendoodle weighs in at an average of pounds. Of course, Goldendoodles can vary greatly in size , and their caloric requirements need to be adjusted accordingly. Growing puppies will especially need loads of exercise and play to burn off excess energy. A common rule of thumb is 5 minutes for every month of age, twice a day until adult. This would mean a 5-month-old Goldendoodle puppy should get around 25 minutes of exercise twice a day. Adult and growing Goldendoodles love to swim, which can provide them with valuable exercise. Their playful nature and high agility are great for catching balls and sticks. Because Goldendoodles can have such variations in size, their exercise needs will vary too. For example, a miniature Goldendoodle will require far less yard space and exercise than a larger one. They are obedient and athletic and love learning and responding to commands. While Goldendoodles can begin responding to basic commands as early as 4 months of age, formal training should only begin at months. The best training method for any dog is using positive reinforcement , which is the concept that rewarding good behavior will lead to more of that behavior in the future. They will benefit greatly from agility training too, as they are amazingly agile and eager to please. Their fur type can vary widely due to their mix of genetics. They can have straight, silky hair like their Golden Retriever ancestors or the wiry, curly hair that comes with Poodle genes. Mostly, their coats are a happy medium between the two. Depending on your particular Goldendoodle, their coat may also need regular trimming. One of the best-known traits of Goldendoodles is the fact that they hardly, if ever, shed. If your Goldendoodle has curly or wavy hair like its Poodle parents, regular, daily brushing is essential. If their coat is more similar to a Golden Retriever, regular brushing is not as essential. Both Poodles and Golden Retrievers are prone to hip dysplasia, so this can be a concern in Goldendoodles. Other common issues among these breeds are eye problems and ear infections. Regular eye checks with a vet are recommended, and making sure your Goldendoodles ear canal remains dry will help mitigate any ear issues, especially if they have big, droopy ears. If you notice your dog scratching and itching incessantly, a trip to the vet is in order. It is widely recommended to neuter males and spay females unless you intend on breeding. This has many associated health benefits. For males, it can prevent testicular cancer, lessen aggression, and prevent them from wandering off looking for females, which can get them lost or injured. Spaying a female will assist in preventing uterine infections and cancer. It is recommended to spay a female before her first heat, as this will help prevent these complications. If you intend to breed a female Goldendoodle, you should wait until she has experienced at least one or two heat cycles , as it is far better for her health. Minor Conditions. Can you breed a Goldendoodle with a Golden Retriever? The answer is yes, you can breed a Goldendoodle with a Golden Retriever. What is Backcrossing? Backcrossing is the process of breeding a hybrid dog back to one of its parent breeds. Why is Backcrossing Rarely Done? This is an uncommon breeding process, mostly because prospective dog owners are looking for dogs that have the genetic characteristics of a Poodle i. Back breeding a Goldendoodle to a Golden Retriever would result in a dog that has more characteristics of the Golden Retriever. It would also be less hypoallergenic than a dog that has more Poodle genetics. One of the advantages of a Goldendoodle Golden Retriever mix is that it would likely be a low-shedding dog although not as low-shedding as a Poodle. Another advantage of this mix is that it would likely be a good family dog. This is because both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle are known for being good with children and other pets. One of the disadvantages of a Golden Retriever Goldendoodle mix is that it would likely be a high-maintenance dog. This is because both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle require a lot of grooming. The Golden Retriever needs to be brushed several times a week, and the Poodle needs to be brushed daily. Another disadvantage of this mix is that it would likely be a high-energy dog. This is because the Golden Retriever is a high-energy breed, and the Poodle is a medium-energy breed. Overall, the Golden Retriever Goldendoodle mix is not a very popular option for dog owners. Appearance of a Goldendoodle with Golden Retriever The appearance of a Goldendoodle with Golden Retriever is going to depend on the percentage of each breed that the dog is. The coat of a Goldendoodle with Golden Retriever is also going to depend on the percentage of each breed that the dog is. Is it Ethical to Back Cross a Goldendoodle? There is no definitive answer to this question as it is a matter of opinion. Some people believe that back-crossing a Goldendoodle is ethical because it can result in a dog with the desired traits of both breeds, while others believe that it is unethical because it may result in a dog that is less hypoallergenic than a purebred Poodle. Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to back cross a Goldendoodle is up to the breeder and the prospective dog owner. Talk to friends, family, and other dog owners to see if they know of any good breeders in your area. Finally, contact the breeders and ask them any questions you have about their dogs and their business. First, find out how long the breeder has been in business. This will give you an idea of their experience and expertise. Next, ask the breeder about the health of their dogs. Find out if they require any special medical care or if they have any known health conditions. Finally, ask the breeder about their return policy. Advantages of Getting a Dog From a Reputable Breeder There are several advantages to getting a dog from a reputable breeder. First, you can be sure that the dog has been well-cared for and is healthy. Avoid any breeder who seems more interested in making a sale than in finding a good home for their dog. Temperament of a Golden Doodle and Golden Retriever Mix The temperament of a Golden Doodle and Golden Retriever mix can vary depending on which traits they inherit from each parent breed. However, in general, these dogs are known for being friendly, loyal, and loving. They typically get along well with children and other pets, making them a great choice for families. Common Health Problems in Golden Doodles and Golden Retrievers Some of the most common health problems in Golden Doodles and Golden Retrievers include hip dysplasia , elbow dysplasia , allergies, and skin problems. Hip dysplasia is a condition that causes the hip joint to develop abnormally, which can lead to pain and lameness. Elbow dysplasia is a similar condition that affects the elbow joint. Allergies are common in both breeds and can cause symptoms like itching, excessive licking, and hair loss. Skin problems are also common in these breeds and can be caused by allergies, infections, or parasites. By doing your research and working with a reputable breeder, you can help ensure that your Golden Doodle or Golden Retriever mix is healthy and happy. Training Tips for a Golden Retriever Mixed with Goldendoodle Golden Retrievers are known for being highly intelligent and easy to train. However, all dogs require patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement when learning new commands. Here are a few training tips to help you get started: 1. Start with basic obedience commands such as sit, stay, come, and down. Make sure you use positive reinforcement such as treats or praise to reward your dog when they follow a command. Be consistent with your commands and always use the same word or phrase to mean the same thing. Avoid using negative reinforcement such as scolding or punishment, as this can make your dog fearful or resistant to training. Be patient and keep training sessions short and fun. With time and patience, your dog will be a well-trained companion. Yes, it is easy to train a Goldendoodle mixed with Golden Retriever. These dogs are highly intelligent and respond well to training. When it comes to training your Golden Retriever mix with Goldendoodle, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, these dogs are highly intelligent, so they learn quickly. Hybrid breeds are actually not new in the canine world, although having an official name for them is quite new. In fact, every single purebred dog breed we know today began as some form of mixed dog breed. Pedigree dogs like the Golden Retriever have a past full of Spaniels and other breeds. Some people believe that hybrid dog breeds dilute the purebred dog lines. However, many purebred dogs can suffer from health issues caused by a less-diverse genetic pool. Mixed breed dogs have hybrid vigor , where diversifying the gene pool decreases the chance of these nasty diseases being passed along. The Goldendoodle appeared in the United States in the s. Produced from mixing a Golden Retriever with a standard Poodle , people hoped that they would pass on the kind and clever qualities of both breeds, and be less problematic for allergy sufferers. Because they have been around for a few generations now, you can be more confident in what you are getting from a Goldendoodle than other mixed breeds. Especially if you have an F1b Goldendoodle that has one Goldendoodle parent and one Poodle parent. They have loose wavy fur, a fairly broad long face and floppy ears with silky fur. Your average adult weighs around 65lbs, and stands about 22 inches at the shoulder as a rough guide. Grooming and Coat Care Curly dogs shed less because the fur they lose gets tangled in their existing coat. Make sure you get them used to being brushed from the week you bring your puppy home. Use a soft comb to begin with, and make sure to provide lots of tasty treats every time you run it through their hair. Are They Hypoallergenic? One of the key reasons why this dog has become so popular is because of its reputation for being hypoallergenic. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a totally hypoallergenic dog breed. This is because all dogs produce the protein fel D 1. It is not simply a case of being around pet hair. Allergies can be less of a problem for some pet allergy sufferers because these dogs have a tendency to shed less thanks to their Poodle parentage. However, not all Goldendoodles will take after their Poodle parent. Goldendoodle Temperament Many different factors can influence the temperament of a puppy. Such factors include birth order, gender, parent dog temperament, early training and socialization, the weaning process and more. Goldendoodles are a reliably bright, sociable, friendly and affectionate pet dog. But although this breed has a reputation for sweet personalities and temperaments, the best way to know for sure is to meet and spend time with each parent dog. This mix is frequently recommended as a service and therapy dog. However, even the most naturally friendly of puppies will benefit from good socialization. This breed truly has a golden personality, so much so that these dogs will make poor watchdogs at best. They are just too friendly and sociable, although they are still likely to alert you with an enthusiastic woof or ten! Goldendoodles can make a great family pet for the right family. If you have young children in the home, they can be a great addition because they are social and full of energy. They are also relatively safe to have around young kids. A study of dog bites in children showed that Retriever cross-breeds are five times less likely to bite than breeds such as German Shepherds or Dobermans. Consider how much time you and your family will have to dedicate to your dog. For example, Goldendoodles need plenty of exercise and grooming. On the other hand, they are a low-shed breed. Training and Exercise Goldendoodles are smart just like their parents and can get into mischief without early training, socialization, sufficient daily enrichment and activity. Also, because they are so friendly and energetic, socialization with people and other dogs is vital to help your pup understand how to behave when out and about. However, I frequently find them more likely to dance around their families feet than run off into the bushes. We recommend limiting exercise to short walks and play time during puppyhood. Poodles originated as water retrieving dogs, so they make great swimmers. Thus, coupled with the fact that Golden Retrievers are typically very easy to train, you should have no problems getting your Goldendoodle used to the water for some exercise. Take a look at some of our training guides to get up to speed on training. Health and Care Both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle have certain known health issues that occur more frequently within each dog breed. Any good breeder will take care to test all parent dogs to rule out passing on any known genetic health issues to puppies. Goldendoodles are prone to hip dysplasia and PRA blindness. They also have a high risk of developing bloat, which causes the stomach to twist. This is a serious problem and can be fatal. Because Golden Retrievers have a higher-than-average incidence of cancer , look for a litter with an older Golden Retriever parent to cut down your odds. The average lifespan for a Golden Retriever is .The average lifespan for a Poodle is 12 years. Other important factors can influence lifespan. These include diet, enrichment activities, exercise, vet care and lifestyle. Breeders and Puppies Good breeders health test potential parents and socialize their puppies. They spend money on vet checks, quality food and toys for the whole litter. When you visit your puppy, their parents will have a strong and obvious bond with the breeder. And a purpose beyond producing babies, such as an agility dog or a valued family pet. How much your puppy will cost is a question that can have different answers based on the generation of the puppies too. By generation we mean f1 versus f1b: F1 Goldendoodle puppies have one Poodle parent dog and one Golden Retriever parent dog. F1b Goldendoodle puppies have at least one Goldendoodle parent dog. It is easier to control important issues such as coat shedding, personality, temperament, health concerns and adult size when breeding f1b Goldendoodle puppies. Most breeders will choose to specialize in either f1 or f1b Goldendoodles, although some breeders will breed both dogs. Future litters of f1b Goldendoodles two Goldendoodle parent dogs will be f2b, f3b, f4b and so forth. One of these puppies can change quite a bit in the course of a year or two. Plus, it is important to remember that they are lively, active, and energetic dogs in general. This does not always work out well once the owner discovers how much time and energy their new puppy requires. This can result in a Goldendoodle puppy being returned to the breeder or surrendered to a shelter or rescue center while it waits for a new home. Under the right circumstances, that new home could be yours. Families, couples, first-time dog owners Temperament: Intelligent, loyal, affectionate, playful, energetic, social They are such social, loyal, and dependable dogs, they have been popular as family companions and have been widely used in search and rescue, therapy, and as guide dogs for the blind too. In this guide, we go in-depth on the personality and care requirements of these adorable dogs, so you can decide whether the Goldendoodle is the right fit for you. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Goldendoodle Puppies Image Credit: DiZiga, Shutterstock The Goldendoodle can be high energy at times, especially in the first couple years of their life. They have inherited this calm, friendly, and docile nature from their Golden Retriever heritage, and they are rarely aggressive or territorial. They are not known for barking much, even if there is a stranger at the door, making them ideal pets if you prefer peace and quiet. They are devoted family pets that love to be included in every activity and thus will suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long periods. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are social, friendly, and loyal as they come and are the picture-perfect family dog. Of course, early socialization is still essential because they can become rather attached to their owners, which may be problematic occasionally. They also do not have much of a prey drive, so even other small pets in your home are usually safe with a Goldendoodle. The food that you give your Goldendoodle should be of the best quality that you can afford, free from filler ingredients like soy and corn, with an animal-based protein as the first listed ingredient or at least among the top three. We recommend giving your pup lean meats occasionally as a healthy treat and for variety, and as with all dogs, they need to be provided with clean, fresh water at all times. They will love their daily walk followed by a play session in the backyard, and like both Poodles and Golden Retrievers, Goldendoodles love to swim, a fun activity that can also give them beneficial exercise. They are playful dogs that will adore games of frisbee or fetch in the backyard, and this will also provide them with mental stimulation, an important aspect for such intelligent animals. Puzzle toys are other valuable accessories for these dogs, and these will go a long way in helping prevent boredom. Of course, Goldendoodles are social animals, so they will enjoy walks with other dogs or social play sessions in the dog park too. They are not massive dogs but still are not suited for apartment living because they need a large backyard to play in. In fact, these dogs are often used as therapy or service dogs due to their ease of training and friendly nature. This makes them ideal for novice dog owners because they are generally ready and willing for their daily training sessions! We highly recommended positive reinforcement training methods, as these sensitive dogs will not respond well to harsh training methods. This will ensure a happier dog overall and forge a close bond of trust between you and your Goldendoodle. An often overlooked aspect of training is early socialization. Making sure your puppy is exposed to other dogs regularly early will help training exponentially in the future. Also, keep training and socialization sessions short and consistent, as this routine will also help during training. No matter the coat type, these dogs are fairly low-shedding, so keeping them well-groomed is simple. Both Golden Retrievers and Poodles are known to suffer from hip and elbow dysplasia occasionally, as well as eye problems, such as progressive retinal atrophy. Minor Conditions. What Does Goldendoodle F1b Mean? When a Goldendoodle is backcrossed, it is usually to the purebred Poodle and not the Golden Retriever. They call this backcrossing. These dogs end up having more characteristics of one purebred parent, the Poodle. When you breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever, they end up having more characteristics of the Golden Retriever and less of the Poodle through the Goldendoodle. This breeding combination is possible, but it is less common and requires more work on the breeders part. It is also less popular since more people seek out other Goldendoodles with more Poodle traits. How to Breed for an F1 Goldendoodle and Golden Retriever Mix Using a reputable breeder who handles this type of back cross is necessary to gain the healthiest dog possible. Breeding a Goldendoodle with a Retriever is not commonplace, and many people wonder why it is even done, so finding qualified breeders may be limited. Most Goldendoodles are backcrossed with the purebred Poodle to gain more Poodle characteristics like hypoallergenic and low shedding. In reverse, the necessity is unclear. Still, some potential pet parents seek out these cross-bred dogs and others because they like a particular breed of dog and are interested in a cross between them and the adorable cute and teddy bear-like Goldendoodle. Breeding this way, requires that breeders know what to look for in each dog parent. Breeding a Golden Doodle and a Golden Retriever can result in a beautiful hybrid dog that possesses the best qualities of both breeds. Also known as the Golden Retriever and Golden Doodle mix, this hybrid dog is gaining popularity among pet owners due to its friendly nature, intelligence, and adorable appearance. The Poodle breed is often added to the mix to enhance the non-shedding and hypoallergenic qualities that are commonly found in Goldendoodles. When breeding a Golden Retriever with a Golden Doodle, the resulting offspring can inherit a wide variety of traits from each parent. The puppies may vary in size, coat texture, and color, depending on the traits that they inherit from each parent. Overall, breeding a Golden Retriever with a Golden Doodle can result in a fantastic hybrid dog that is perfect for families looking for a friendly, intelligent, and affectionate pet. The Goldendoodle is a hybrid dog with Poodle and Golden Retriever parents. Beyond this first generation, there are numerous other generations and possibilities by breeding Goldendoodles together or back to the Poodle line. It is also possible that you can breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever. Goldendoodles were created as a designer dog breed that became popular due to their teddy bear appearance and low shedding and hypoallergenic coat of hair. If a Goldendoodle is bred with a Retriever, they will gain more of the Golden Retriever and less of the Poodle, which could mean more shedding of non-hypoallergenic hair. It is possible to breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever but not a common occurrence because the popularity is not there. Many people chose a Goldendoodle because they want a dog that looks and acts more like a Retriever. Another reason breeding a Goldendoodle with a Retriever is less common because more is required of the breeder, and they are harder to locate. Finding a reputable breeder that is skilled and knowledgeable is very important whatever type of back cross is desired with a Goldendoodle. What traits will a litter of puppies have when you breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever? There will still be some Poodle in the mix with this breeding, but it will be less than in the original Goldendoodle. The physical, emotional, and mental characteristics will lean more towards the Golden Retriever since more Golden Retriever in these puppies. They may be bigger physically, have a shaggier coat of hair, and may not be hypoallergenic or low shedding. Facial features can be more streamlined and appear to be more like the Golden Retriever line, with, of course, the possibility for variances from one dog to another in the same litter. Emotionally Golden Retrievers can be very mellow and easy-going, which can benefit this type of breeding, but Poodles are also relatively easy going as well. Regardless breeding a Goldendoodle with a Retriever can make an exciting mix that potential pet parents might find as an exciting change of pace and variance for this cross-bred dog. These dogs will still have a gentle, loving, and friendly personality with intelligence and trainability like most of the other Goldendoodles of other generations. If you can breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever, will they become popular? If you breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever, they could become popular as the original Goldendoodles, but the chance for this happening is lowered. The Goldendoodle cross-bred dog was created as a designer dog to cater to people that wanted a dog with specific characteristics. High intelligence, a teddy bear coat of hair, and a gentle, loving personality as just a few parts of this equation. One of the reasons people love the original Goldendoodles so much is because they are also low shedding and often hypoallergenic. By breeding a Goldendoodle with a Retriever, the hypoallergenic and low shedding coat could be lost , reducing the appeal for those pet parents looking for those traits in a dog. This is because there is so little Poodle left in the mix. While they could still become popular with those pet parents that love and adore Golden Retrievers, it is still unlikely that they would become as popular as the Goldendoodles that boast more of their Poodle parents traits. What is the price for a puppy when you breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever? The price for a puppy from this litter would be comparable to other Goldendoodle pricing. Each breeder is unique in pricing depending on location, gender, age, size, and how high the current demand is at the time. Since these Goldendoodles are less popular than the original Goldendoodle generation and the varieties that lean towards more Poodle, there may be a slight price difference because what you get from one dog to another can be unpredictable. Breeders who cross-bred these two dogs are harder to find, which could also cause the price to be higher. Breeding these dogs requires medical workups to limit the risk of genetic health issues being passed to the next generation. The amount of research, skill, knowledge, energy, time, and care increases causes the expense of a potential pet parent. What makes a good breeder that would breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever? What makes a good breeder breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever, or any dog for that matter, is knowledge, skill, planning, and research. While every dog has redeeming qualities that make them outstanding in one way or another, a good breeder will be able to separate their love of dogs from facts about an individual dog. A good breeder always seeks to improve on what is already existing. They spend greats of time becoming experts on the breeds or cross-breeds they handle. They learn about genetics, health, appearance, and temperament. When breeding any dogs, a good quality breeder will improve with the new litter. They will know or learn the flaws of one dog parent and pair it with another dog parent to reduce or eliminate those negative qualities or flaws. This is for the health and future of this cross bred dog. When breeding a Goldendoodle with a Retriever, these skills are essential because the Goldendoodle is a cross-bred dog. Being a cross-bred dog means there is no breed standard to compare. Pure bred dogs have a set breed standard that proves quality breeding practice and integrity of the ancestoral line, cross bred dogs have not set standard. This is true when selecting a Goldendoodle, whether it is mostly Retriever, mostly Poodle, or a fifty-fifty mix. Golden Retriever and Poodle mixes can be susceptible to a variety of diseases and health issues. Some of the most common health concerns in Goldendoodles are related to their joints and eyes. Patellar luxation, which occurs when the kneecap moves out of place, is another condition that is seen in both breeds. Allergies are another common issue that Goldendoodles may experience, particularly skin allergies. Hip dysplasia is a condition that affects the hip joints and can cause pain and lameness. Early socialization is crucial for Goldendoodles to prevent separation anxiety, which can cause destructive behavior and distress when left alone. Epilepsy is another condition that Goldendoodles may inherit from their parent breeds. Despite these health concerns, Goldendoodles may benefit from hybrid vigor, which is the increased health and vitality that can result from breeding two different breeds together. Purebred dogs can also pass conditions from both females and males from either breed onto the offspring. Therefore, the resulting goldendoodle puppies may actually be less healthy than their parents. Get your family pet from a great breeder to avoid these problems. A superb golden retriever poodle mix can be found being bred to be guide dogs. These dogs may not make the cut to be guide or therapy dogs, but they can still be healthy, happy pets. While you can breed a Goldendoodle with a Retriever, the reasoning is unclear with this designer dog breed. At the end of the day, as long as a dog is healthy and the pet parents are happy, one must wonder if they are bred matters anyway! Goldendoodles are a cross-bred dog with a Poodle and a Golden Retriever as parents, and they are popular due to their teddy bear appearance and low shedding and hypoallergenic coat of hair. The popularity of breeding a Goldendoodle with a Retriever is not there, and many people choose a Goldendoodle because they want a dog that looks and acts more like a Retriever. Is the Goldendoodle-Golden Retriever mix a good service dog? This is where a Goldendoodle is bred back to a Poodle rather than a Golden Retriever. Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers are consistently one of the most popular dogs in the U. The history and true origins of the Golden Retriever date back to as early as the s. However, the story of the Golden Retriever began even earlier than this, according to the Golden Retriever Club of America [1] grca. Based on information found on the American Kennel Club website, the Golden Retriever was originally a product of the wealthy Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, son of a wealthy banking investor who inherited a generous amount of money [2] ukcdogs. Because of his love for dogs and bird-hunting, he would go on to acquire several properties with a substantial amount of land. One, in particular, was a retreat in the Scottish Highlands named Giusachan, which he kept reserved for training hunting dogs to assist in his fowl-hunting ventures. During his youth, he had developed an affinity for dog breeding, a hobby reserved then for the well-to-do. As the story goes, the young aristocrat was strolling home one evening and encountered a wavy-coated sporting dog owned by a local merchant who needed to settle a debt — and the rest is history. The dog would come to be named Nous and would eventually be bred with a liver-colored Tweed Water Spaniel, a now-extinct breed. Nous was rumored to be of Russian origin — a story that held for some time until the GRCA conducted further research. The result was the longer, wavy, golden hair of Nous, the dog with a mysterious Russian background, with the intelligence and tact of the Tweed Water Spaniel. Ultimately, it was discovered that Nous was bred from a variation of a Red Setter. Golden Retriever puppies are too cute to handle. This, combined with the liver-colored coat of the Spaniel, and the golden color of Nous, gives the Golden Retriever chances of having anything from brilliant gold to even a darker copper color. He was tall and lanky but had that characteristic square head. People always thought he was a red setter, but he came from a breeder and had a documented ancestry. An unusual example of the breed for sure, especially since he lived to 16 certainly not due to his diet because I was always sharing my food with him lol. Such wonderful dogs, especially with kids. Overall, the Golden Retriever is one of the most loving dogs in existence and makes a great companion or family dog. Goldendoodle Goldendoodles come in different sizes such as toy, mini, medium, and standard. The Goldendoodle is a playful breed that displays a perfect mix of the personality traits of its parents, the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. These dogs became popular in the early 90s but have existed since as early as the 60s. Most Goldendoodles have an excellent disposition — a combination of the intelligence of the Poodle and the Golden Retriever form an extremely smart dog with an affinity for quick learning. They have the loving side of the Golden Retriever, with an equal number of people-pleasing traits from the Poodle, giving them a knack for showing off. They love being around their people and will work hard alongside you, especially with lots of positive reinforcement. Poodle The Poodle is perhaps one of the most misrepresented breeds in existence. Many people assume a Poodle to be spoiled, even somewhat snobby, and, if nothing else, extremely high maintenance. Poodles originated in Germany, not France. However, Poodles are an incredibly versatile breed with a long history of being excellent service animals. The standard Poodle was initially bred to hunt waterfowl — which makes a great combination with the excellent retrieving skills of the genetics from the other side of the gene pool. They have very little aggression towards other dogs and owners, which makes learning in a dog school or having them train with other members of your canine family very stress-free. Be prepared for laughter — the Poodle can also be an extremely goofy breed. If there were a breed you could compare to a comedian or actor — it would certainly be the Poodle [3] youtube. Mini Poodles were bred down from the Standard Poodle. The Poodle has its roots as a swimmer, as noted by their webbed paws, and generally loves the water. I recommend having multiple, as they are very social animals. You can get larger or smaller, depending on the breeder, as well as different colors, including multicolor parti. Best advice I got was to make sure you go to a reputable breeder. Poodles were insanely popular in the mid-twentieth century, and were overbred. So, you need to make sure all the proper precautions were taken to minimize health issues. Amazing, amazing dogs. Appearance The appearance of the Golden Retriever and Goldendoodle mix is less versatile than the Goldendoodle itself or other Doodle breeds, but it still has various physical traits. Coat Type The coat of the Goldendoodle and Retriever mix varies depending on the genetics and coat type of the parents. However, their coats are generally medium in length with extremely light curls. When they get wet, their curls are more prevalent. Some of them end up with more of a wavy coat instead of a curl — but both are possible. Coat Colors The Goldendoodle Retriever generally has anywhere from a darker copper to an extremely light blonde, almost white color. Their parents ultimately dictate their shade — listed below are the potential colors of the parents: Red. They may have small white patches over their body like on their chest or paws however these as technically Black and White Goldendoodles. Goldendoodles can only be this color if they inherit it from the Poodle as purebred Golden Retrievers are never black. Red Goldendoodle Red Goldendoodles come in a variety of shades from light red to dark red. Their coats can be anywhere from a reddish cream to a rusty brown color. Goldendoodles with lighter red coats are usually called Apricot Goldendoodles. Apricot Goldendoodle Apricot Goldendoodles have very light red coats with a peachy tone. They are somewhere between a light red and a cream. Only the Poodle carries the genes for an apricot coat so Apricot Goldendoodles are usually created by breeding an Apricot or Red Poodle with a light Golden Retriever. They are one of the most sought after Goldendoodle coat colors. Merle Goldendoodle A Merle Goldendoodle carries the merle gene which dilutes certain sections of their coat into mottled patches. This gene also affects eye color and skin pigmentation on the nose and paws so Merle Goldendoodles often have very light eye colors such as blue and often have pink patches on their nose and paws. Most of the time the secondary color is apricot, red or cream. Chocolate Goldendoodle Chocolate Goldendoodles have a solid brown coat that can range from a very light shade to a dark brown. They inherit this coat color from the Poodle side. Brown coats were originally a result of a mutation of the gene that produces a black coat. It is a recessive gene so both parents need to carry it to get a Chocolate Goldendoodle. That is why Chocolate Goldendoodles are more commonly found in back-cross generations such as an F1b, F1bb or F2b Goldendoodle. Some English Cream Goldendoodles have black noses while others have light brown or beige noses. English Cream Goldendoodles are often mistake for Labradoodles because they are so light in color. Black and White Goldendoodle Black and White Goldendoodles feature a mainly white coat with black patches. The black patches are usually located on their chest, legs, muzzle, paws or above their eyes. Black and White Goldendoodles are a type of Parti Goldendoodle. Silver Goldendoodle Silver Goldendoodles have a salt and pepper colored coat. They are usually born a darker color and start to fade to silver around 10 weeks of age. At this age, the roots of their hair will start to lighten to grey. In fact, Silver Goldendoodles go through the most dramatic coat color change out of all the Goldendoodle colors. Goldendoodle via huntleydoodle Golden Retriever Poodle Mix Temperament The temperament of a Golden Retriever Poodle Mix can vary depending on many factors such as the percentage mix of Poodle to Golden Retriever, their level of socialization, their environment as well as what training they have undergone. Overall, Golden Retriever Poodle Mixes are highly excitable dogs by nature. They love spending time around people and other animals alike and are so affectionate and gentle. Goldendoodles are keen to please which makes them pretty easy to train. They are also relatively easy to care for. The only real complaint of owners is the constant grooming requirements of Goldendoodles. Are Goldendoodles Smart? Goldendoodle are very intelligent as both the Poodle and Golden Retriever are known to be very smart. Poodles are ranked 2nd for working and obedience training out of breeds while Golden Retrievers are ranked 4th. Goldendoodles are eager to please and quick learners as they are so smart which makes them relatively easy to train. Are Goldendoodles Hyper? While Goldendoodles are an energetic and playful breed, most people would not describe them as hyper. Nevertheless, like any other dog breed, Goldendoodles can have varying temperaments and energy levels so some may be more laid-back and calm while others may be more active. Goldendoodles can be hyper if they are not given enough exercise each day. They may exhibit behaviors such as chewing, pacing or being vocal if their daily exercise needs are not met. That is why it is so important to give them lots of exercise each day. Do Goldendoodles Like To Cuddle? Most Goldendoodles love to cuddle. They are known for their friendly and affectionate nature and are also very people-oriented so cuddling comes naturally to them. They thrive on human companionship and as much as they love running around and being active, they equally love snuggling with their loved ones. Do Goldendoodles Have Separation Anxiety? Goldendoodle can be prone to separation anxiety as they are people-oriented dogs and love spending time with their families. They may become anxious or distressed if they are separated from their owners for long periods of time. Luckily, you can manage separation anxiety by gradually getting them used to being alone for longer periods of time. You can do this by starting with short periods of being alone and slowly increasing the time or you can create a comfortable and safe space for them to be left when you leave the house. This may be a den-like environment like a crate with blankets and their favorite toys. Do Goldendoodles Bark A Lot? How much a Goldendoodle barks highly depends on the individual dog. Overall, Goldendoodles do not bark as much as other smaller dogs. Look for boredom-busting dogs toys such as ones you can hide treats inside. Other options include using ultra-sonic sound devices. There are many factors that affect the lifespan of a Goldendoodle including size, gender, generation and whether they are desexed or intact. These variables mean they can have shorter or longer lifespans than the average. You can give your Goldendoodle the best chance of living a long life by exercising them daily, feeding them a healthy diet and keeping on top of vet appointments.

They were originally bred to be service dogs and not a 'designer' pet. The Labradoodle breed started with a request over thirty years ago by a family needing a seeing eye dog but who also had a family member with asthma. After some research and years of breeding by leading service dog breeders, Tegan Park and Rutland Manor in Australia, the Australian Labradoodle was born. Our top goal is excellent health, fantastic temperament, and service qualities. Just like any other breed that becomes popular, though, some breeders have started breeding for the popularity of these dogs and not for the benefit of the breed itself. So here's how to make sure you're getting the dog you want. Here are some helpful tips to understand what a breeder means when they are using these phrases. The multi-generation Australian Labradoodle, which is the original Labradoodle, has a foundation stock including six different parent breeds. These dogs were developed in Australia, and hence the "Australian" in the name of the dogs. This was a breed that was developed with goals in mind for a low shedding service dog, not a designer dog. The multi-generation Labradoodle has only poodle and lab in its heritage. It does not include the other parent breeds that were originally used by the creators of the breed. These have been primarily developed later in the U. These dogs tend to shed their coat since they are more closely related to the Labrador and often have a wire hair look to them. The "Back Cross" or "F1B" is a dog from an F1 see above mated back to a poodle usually for coat correction. These dogs have not had the multiple generations of Labradoodle mated with another Labradoodle nor the addition of Australian Labradoodle foundation stock or multiple parent breeds. With 17 years of experience in breeding Australian Labradoodles, we pride ourselves on selecting only the best dogs for our breeding program, which in turn ensures that we are producing the best puppies imaginable. We work closely with our licensed vet to perform health testing, including hip and elbow testing; eyes, heart, skin, and patella testing; and a series of genetic tests, on all of our breeding dogs. We provide a temperature controlled, in home my master bedroom environment, with sound therapy to expose your puppy to lifes sounds from an early age. This helps desensitize your puppy to the sounds of life traffic, fireworks, outdoor machinery, crying baby, misc appliances, automobiles, etc. We start crate training at 5 weeks with a soothing heartbeat snuggle puppy to comfort them as they transition to sleeping alone and all the puppies love it and sleep better with minimal crying. We add nutrients and special additives for puppies to their drinking water. We add probiotics to their food for a healthy GI tract and immune system. We make special liver water, gruel, with puppy supplements, dog milk formula to their nutritionally dense food to support eyes, ear, bone, joint, coat and heart health. We expose your puppy to sunlight daily on the deck right outside the puppy nursery area. There is always a plush bedding for their cozy comfort in their play areas for those impromptu naps puppies love. Our puppies are held and played with while being bathed and exposed to water, in our walk-in shower, which builds a positive experience, with water, for their lifetime. Bath time is with a human sitting in this large shower allowing plenty of space for your puppy too roam around and enjoy water in a nurturing experience. The puppies love it instead of being in a sink with a dry human just washing them. Water is actual playtime while they get clean and build positive experiences with being wet. Instead we utilize Puppy Culture, Badass Breeder protocols and tons of love from humans that are passionate and dedicated to what they do. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Tweet on Twitter You are not alone if you are wondering whether you should give your dog vitamins. Most notably, the areas of organic supplements, weight loss supplements, and vitamins for older dogs are of great interest to consumers. With vitamins for pregnant dogs to vitamins for dogs with arthritis available these days, there is a formulation for just about any situation your furry friend faces. This can be confusing, as you could easily be led to believe your dog needs to take a fistful of supplements every day to be healthy and happy. Aside from the potential health implications of giving your dog unnecessary supplements, feeding your dog endless vitamins for no good reason is going to leave a huge hole in your hip pocket. What are the best dog vitamins? Dog Vitamins — Are They Necessary? If you have a happy, healthy dog with no preexisting health conditions who is fed a nutritionally complete diet, then there is really no need to give them vitamins and supplements at all. While most dogs will likely fall into this category, there are times that you may need to give your dog some supplementary vitamins, even if they do not seem sick. A good example of this is if you feed your dog a homemade diet. Commercially available dog foods usually include a vitamin mix specific to the type of dog they are marketed to. However, if you make your own dog food it is possible that there will be some deficiencies in their diet. There are plenty of doggie multivitamins available, however a word of caution is needed. Determining what supplement your dog needs if they are on a homemade diet is something that is best done in consultation with your vet. Maybe they need to get through a condition that has either been caused by or has led to a vitamin deficiency. Of course, you would need to have your dog examined by your vet to be sure of the issue. After a proper diagnosis, your vet may advise you to give your dog a vitamin supplement. Vitamin D has an important role in the body, as it aids in the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. Dogs obtain Vitamin D through the diet and exposure to sunlight. If your dog suffers from this imbalance, they are at risk of developing problems which include: rickets both in puppies and adult dogs rubber jaw syndrome, a condition generally seen in older dogs where their bones become weak and break easily hypoparathyroidism, a condition that tends to affect smaller dogs which makes them restless, nervous, and unable to control their muscle movements Vitamin C for Stressed Dogs Dr. Bauer also mentions that vitamin C levels can become low when dogs are under stress and may need to be supplemented at these times. Vitamins for Dogs Eyes A study conducted in found that a diet without enough vitamin E led to progressive loss of vision. Again, it is important to note that the dogs that experienced this vision loss were fed on a diet of table scraps and worked as hunting dogs. Dogs that are fed a nutritionally adequate diet are not likely to experience such deficiencies. Interestingly, however, both a deficiency and an excess of vitamin A can cause issues of the skin and hair. Therefore, it is important that you have a deficiency confirmed before you give your dog vitamin A. We will talk more about vitamin toxicity later in this article. Generally, any vitamin A deficiency is the result of an inadequate diet. We have already established that this rare if you feed your dog with commercially available dog food. However, Cocker Spaniels can develop dermatitis even when they are fed a diet with sufficient levels of vitamin A. If your Cocker Spaniel has this condition, their skin will be nasty indeed: scaly, greasy, flaky, and itchy. If vitamin A-responsive dermatitis is the culprit, your pooch may well have to take vitamins for dogs coat to keep the condition at bay. And vitamins are no exception. There are many studies available that outline the dangers and side effects of Vitamin D toxicity. Large doses of Vitamin D are thought to cause permanent damage to the kidneys. Abnormal deposits of calcium in the organs and in the blood were also found in dogs that had been given large doses of this vitamin. You may have read something about the benefits of vitamin A and are looking for dog vitamins for shedding, for instance. Clearly, you cannot assume that vitamin A will do the trick. In fact, it could actually end up causing your pooch more grief. There has also been evidence of neuropathy, or weakness and numbness, in beagles that had been given excessive doses of vitamin B6. The trend among humans is to take supplements to help us through our different life stages. Concerned pet owners may wonder if there is any merit in senior dog vitamins, prenatal vitamins for dogs, or dog vitamins for immune system health. As we have seen through this article, vitamins are really only of any use to your dog if they are suffering with a deficiency. While at certain stages of life, the chances of your dog becoming deficient increase, the only way to be sure they need a supplement is to check with your vet. Needless to say, giving your dog some human vitamins that you have found in the back of your medicine cabinet is not the best idea. In fact, the dosages and combinations of vitamins specially formulated for human consumption could even be dangerous for your dog. Always consult with your vet before you start giving your dog vitamins so you can be sure you are giving them the appropriate dosage. labradoodle puppy behaviour - It might be tricky trying to predict the color of a Labradoodle pup, as this is greatly determined by their genetics. Labrador Retriever Colors Labrador Retrievers usually come in all solid colors. Most common ones include yellow, black, chocolate, red, white, and silver. Some of the more rare Labrador Retriever colors are, in fact, color combinations. These include black with white markings on the chest, black and tan, or brindle. The most common colors we see on Poodles are black, blue, silver, gray, white, brown, cream, apricot, silver beige, red, and cafe au lait. Additionally, some Poodles can also come in a variety of color combinations like black and brown, black and tan, black and apricot, black and cream, brown and apricot, brown and white, and many others. Labradoodle Color Chart Labradoodles come in all shapes and sizes, coat types, and colors. Apricot Labradoodles have a rich colored coat resembling the inside of a ripe apricot. Hence the name apricot Labradoodle. Apricot Labradoodles usually have a black nose and their hair color is typically the same throughout the coat. However, apricot Labradoodles may change color over time. Some pups fade lighter as they age and some are born with a cream coat that becomes darker over time. A red Labradoodle falls in a similar tone category as an apricot Labradoodle, but they have a much richer pigment and a distinctive red hue to their coat. Similarly to apricot Labradoodles, red Labradoodles might fade over time, which often results in a tan Labradoodle. Black Labradoodle A black Labradoodle comes in a solid all black coat with no other colored markings. Black Labradoodles also have black noses, black paw cushions, and eyes. On the other hand, like many other Labradoodle colors, pups who have a black coat may fade lighter into a more gray-ish tone over time. Chocolate Labradoodle a. Brown Labradoodle The chocolate Labradoodle is a rich brown Labradoodle. Chocolate Labradoodles can come with either brown eyes, or much more rare blue eyes. Their nose is typically brown or has a rose-y hue. As chocolate Labradoodles are so popular, it might be harder to get your hands on one. Cream Labradoodle a. Tan Labradoodle Cream Labradoodles have the signature beige-colored Doodle coat. The shade can vary in darkness and sometimes even have some gold or apricot markings on the face or paws. Their nose is usually black or dark brown. As their hair darkness can vary, cream Labradoodles are also often referred to as tan Labradoodles. Blue Labradoodle Blue Labradoodles are one of the more rare options out there. They are usually born with a black coat and as they age, they turn into a more gray-ish, smoky blue tone. During their first year from birth, their coat will change to match their skin tone. Their nose pigment is usually blue or gray that matches the skin. Most commonly, blue Labradoodles have brown eyes, but there are also the super rare, yet super gorgeous blue Labradoodles with blue eyes. Silver Labradoodle a. Gray Labradoodle Silver Labradoodles are very similar to blue Labradoodles. The silver can range anywhere from very light gray to dark charcoal color. Similarly to blue Labradoodles, silver Labradoodles are usually born with a much darker coat color. As they become older, their true coat color will start to appear. Again, this Labradoodle color is more of a rarity, and you should expect to pay more for a silver Labradoodle. For instance, a brown and white Labradoodle is considered parti, as they have a white base color with large blotches of brown throughout the coat. Of course, parti Labradoodles can also have other colors instead of brown, such as apricot, black, blue, or silver. Achieving a parti Labradoodle requires a ton of DNA testing to make sure the right genes are present. Therefore, this is again a more rare Labradoodle color. Black and White Labradoodle a. Tuxedo Labradoodle A tuxedo Labradoodle or black and white Labradoodle has a solid black base with white patches on the chest and neck. As you might guess, the white patches form a tuxedo-like pattern. Although there are also parti black and white Labradoodles, the tuxedo pattern is usually what people refer to. When it comes to Labradoodles, the black and white tuxedo pattern is rather difficult to achieve, making it another rare Labradoodle pattern. Sable Labradoodle Sable Labradoodles are usually born with a dark coat that lightens as the puppies start reaching adulthood. Once adults, sable Labradoodles have a solid base color, typically cream, apricot, or tan, with darker tips at the ends of the hair. Some pups keep the dark tips, while others outgrow them completely. However, sometimes their ears stay darker. Again, this is a more rare Labradoodle color, which might be more difficult to come across. Merle Labradoodles can come in a variety of shades. Some merles have blues, grays, and silvers, while others have chocolate, red, apricot, and cream. They have a solid base color with speckled patches of diluted colors throughout the coat. Phantom Labradoodle Phantom Labradoodles have a dominant base color, such as black or brown with lighter markings of another color on the face, chest, legs, and paws. The phantom Labradoodle comes with a distinctive pattern, where markings are placed above the eyes and around the muzzle. Abstract Labradoodle Abstract Labradoodles are very similar to parti Labradoodles. But with one exception. There are various color combinations possible, but the most common ones include white and brown, white and tan, or black and white Labradoodle. Brindle Labradoodle Brindle Labradoodles have a stripe pattern all across their body, which resembles much of a tiger. The darker color is more prominent while the lighter highlighted stripes are present all throughout the coat. Like many other Doodles, Labradoodles often change color or fade as they reach adulthood. Usually, Labradoodle puppies change color during their first year from birth. The fading or clearing is usually more prevalent in darker colored Labradoodles like black, brown, or chocolate. You can typically expect a black Labradoodle to fade into silver, blue, or gray tones. Chocolate Labradoodles tend to become tan, cream, or silver as they age. Behavioral problems usually stem from improper or inconsistent training. If your pup is acting up, we recommend you get in touch with a professional dog trainer or try an online puppy school. Having said that, there is a link between certain health problems and the merle gene. Merle Labradoodles have a slightly increased risk of blindness and deafness. For this reason, ethical breeders never cross two merle Labradoodles, as this can greatly increase the chance of complications. It all comes down to your personal preferences and which Labradoodle colors you prefer. All Labradoodles have a similar temperament and each of them comes with a unique personality. In addition to that, ethical breeders place their puppies into homes based on their temperament and personality to find the best forever home for each puppy. After all, the most important thing is that your new companion fits your lifestyle and household. Labradoodles often carry the fading gene, which is inherited from the Poodle parent. If your puppy is carrying the fading gene, they will most likely become lighter and fade as they start nearing adulthood. Black Labradoodles usually fade into silver or blue tones, whereas chocolate Labradoodles fade into more creamy, tan, and beige tones. The only way to determine whether or not your Labradoodle will change color is by DNA testing. The rarest Labradoodle colors are actually different color combinations and patterns. These include the parti Labradoodle, merle Labradoodle, phantom, tuxedo, sable, abstract, and brindle. In solid Labradoodle colors, the red Labradoodle is the rarest of them all. There are so many beautiful solid Labradoodle colors like chocolate, cream, apricot, and black. And then there are the rarity options like sable, merle, parti, and phantom. What makes it so difficult is that they all look absolutely adorable in their own, unique way. We hope this guide has given you a great overview of all the different Labradoodle colors and coat patterns. Parents of Labradoodles: What color is your Labradoodle and did they change color as they aged? Let us know in the comments below! Avoid making the mistake of choosing the wrong Doodle temperament for your family, lifestyle, or current living situation. The type of hair might not be a heritage of Labrador Retrievers, but their coat shades might be… at least Lab colors like chocolate, cream, black, and others. All of these hues will be described in the paragraphs below, including the rarest Labradoodle shades that you might not have come across before. Apricot This type of Labradoodle coat color is also known as the golden Labradoodle because it resembles the trademark color of Golden Retrievers. However, the apricot hue is acknowledged as one of the official colors of Poodles — one of the parent breeds of Labradoodles, and the color gene carrier. Apricot Labradoodles are one of the most popular types of this mixed breed mainly because they remind us of fluffy teddy bears. Even though the majority of their coat is colored in the apricot shade, the pigment around the nose, eyes, and paws is usually colored in black or in dark brown. Red Experts in Doodles will immediately know that the red Labradoodles inherited this shade from red Poodles — their parent breed. This shade is quite similar to the apricot color, but Red Labradoodles have a significantly deeper hue. This type of shade could also be described as a mahogany hue because they share almost the same richness in color. Parti Have you ever heard of a Parti Poodle? In order to get a Parti pattern, both parent breeds have to be carriers, which is why this pattern is commonly present only in F1 and F1b Labradoodles and those of higher generations. When looking at a Parti Labradoodle, you can also see tints of silver or blue every once in a while. These pups also have a black nose in most cases, just like the Labradoodle types mentioned above. Cream Cream Labradoodles also known as caramel cream are one of the most prevalent types of Labradoodles, which are often related to white or golden pups, even though their coat is darker than white, but paler than the apricot ones. The color of their fur is supposed to be uniform throughout their entire coat, although some pups might have a little deeper tint concentrated on the areas around the eyes, nose, and mouth. This type of color is often used as a base shade for other Labradoodle colors, such as merle, parti in some cases, although white appears much more often , and Phantom Labradoodles. Therefore, some cream pups might end up with a black or a brown nose, eyes of varying colors, and even paws in brighter or deeper shades. Black This color of Labradoodle is quite popular, but it might not be as common as the cream shade mentioned above. The main reason for that is the fact that the black pigment also comes from a recessive gene, which requires both parent breeds to carry the same color pigment. However, there is no guarantee that a Black Labradoodle will result from two black parent breeds as they might be born in a hazel hue or in a chocolate shade. The highest chances of receiving a black Labradoodle are if black Labradors mix with black Poodles. Everything else will probably end up in a darker shade, but far from the black hue. Blue One of the main misconceptions about blue Labradoodles and blue Poodles is that they are actually colored in blue. This shade can be best described as a dark, shadowy-gray hue, which is quite uncommon. Canines can only have this type of color if they receive the Poodle gene that causes fading of the coat shade. On the other hand, this color can also be a result of a combination of parent breeds that are both carriers of the diluted pigment. Aussie Labradoodles share many similar traits with the Lab and Poodle cross, including coat colors. The dominant nose pigment is brown, which appears only if one parent possesses the same nose color. They are neither white nor cream pups; if these pups stood next to white Poodles, they would look like cream pups. It is not excluded for chalk-white puppies to develop certain health issues related to the eyes, which is a part of the heritage of white albino canines that are prone to deafness and blindness in some cases. Chalk-whites might not develop such serious health conditions, but one of the things that many Labradoodle owners will notice is tear-staining , which can often cause darker patches around the eyes. White Poodles are usually more prone to tear-staining, but it can be noticed in Poodles and their mixes of other bright shades. One of the main reasons why chocolate Labradoodles also called brown are so common is the fact that this is a standard color of Labrador Retrievers. Poodles also carry the brown gene, although this shade is richer and darker than the Lab one. Brown Poodles are usually described as pups with deep, golden-brown eyes and a rich, brown coat that have liver shade on the tips of the hair. This is because the brighter-colored dominant traits have a tendency to obscure the appearance of the darker-colored recessive genes, which is why this phenomenon occurs. The most accurate way to characterize a Chocolate Labradoodle is to say that its hue is somewhere between pecan and mahogany. The main shade is always found at the base of the coat hair while the second hue appears only on the tips of it. The base color can be either black or brown; however, these shades will soon begin to fade, leaving a much lighter coat hue when puppies become adults. Still, some canines might retain a deeper shade on the tips of their hair, which is known as the sable pattern. Silver Labradoodles are quite rare; this shade appears more often as a part of multicolored Labradoodles rather than a single color. They have silver lines that are found all over their body, which makes the coat hair shiny. Are Labradoodles Silver At Birth? Just like blue Labradoodles, silver puppies are born with black coat hair, which makes it difficult to define the exact color of the puppy until they grow older. This is the best way to increase the likelihood of obtaining the desired dog shade. The Merle pattern is defined as a color gene that is responsible for the formation of multicolored spots in a solid base color of a coat. Essentially, it can be said that a merle Labradoodle is nothing more than a Labradoodle in any solid shade, with different hue blotches. Merle is considered to be a complex gene that still intrigues a great number of canine experts. Merle Poodles can be crossed with merle Labradors in order to get this unique pattern, although both of these parent types are just as rare as their cross. Are There Double Merle Labradoodles? This phenomenon can occur in cases where two canines that possess the merle gene are crossed. Unfortunately, puppies with double merle-defined markings are prone to several health issues that include hearing impairment and poor eyesight. This is the primary reason why ethical Labradoodle breeders avoid crossing two merle pups. Therefore, every potential owner should require at least one single-colored parent, and more information on the bloodline of the pup. Gray-colored pups get this hue as they grow older as most of them are born either brown or black. Around the age of two, the coat of a dark Labradoodle begins to take on the appearance of lighter shades. After they completely lose the darker appearance, they take on the gray shade, which might become even lighter during their adult years. These pups are considered gray-colored Doodles despite the fact that they are not technically considered to be Labradoodles. These two colors are similar to the point that many people actually identify them as the same shade. However, that might not be the case. One of the main reasons why these two shades should be considered separate colors is the fact that the silver shade appears in lines on a darker coat while the gray hue covers the entire body. Also, the silver hue might appear only if the coat is black from birth while the gray one appears in deeper brown puppies. Phantom Photo from: miss. Most people have already heard about the Phantom Poodle — a pup with an exceptional coat that is also the parent breed of Phantom Labradoodles. The second color of this combination can be any shade, including cream and silver, along with distinctive white markings that are typically found on the chest, paws, above the eyes, and on the sides of the muzzle. Lavender Photo from: roxthedoodle This is one of the unique shades of Labradoodles that is generally described as a diluted chocolate shade. According to experts, the lavender color appears after the shade of certain chocolate Labradoodles starts to either fade or become brighter. As the Labradoodles grow older, their coat changes from a rich brown hue to milk chocolate until they end up in a lilac-like shade, which can be defined as a grayish hue with a hint of pink. Tuxedo Photo from: welcomeacreslabradoodles This is one of the most popular colors among parti Labradoodles. The reason why these canines are called tuxedos is simply the black and white color combination in which they appear. However, the rest of their body should be colored black. To increase the chances of getting this shade, you will have to combine a Lab of a white coat with a parti Poodle. Black and white pups usually have white color displaying around their eyes, nose, and on the top of their head, which never appears in a tuxedo pattern. What Are Abstract Labradoodles? This type of Labradoodle is a pooch that has several shades on their coat. Essentially, it can be any shade mixed with white color. However, the white hue should cover less than half of their body in order for a pup to be defined as abstract. Most people might find this answer rather confusing as they might have seen Labradoodle pups with a red coat often. However, a red Labradoodle will not be considered complete if it has a nose pigment that is different from black. Also, this type of doggie will need to have a solid-base red shade, which will not have any darker or brighter points on any part of the coat. This shade is believed to possess the most dominant gene, which is transferred from parent breeds to pups. Chocolate and white pups are right behind, along with apricot and cream shades. Although this might seem unlikely, in some cases, certain shades can have an impact on the life expectancy of Labradoodles. Labradoodles have the same lifespan as Poodles — 12 to 15 years, which is a great thing considering that Labrador Retrievers usually live up to 12 years only. However, the lifespan of Labradoodles might be shortened with the occurrence of serious health issues, including cardiovascular diseases, eye issues, or any other condition that can have a negative effect on their life. Wrapping Up I hope this guide through all the Labradoodle colors has helped you finally understand the differences between different types of these wonderful crossbreeds. As mentioned earlier, Labradoodle is a mixed breed containing Poodle and Labrador traits. This inheritance includes physical features, temperament, and the fascinating colors that you can find among Labradoodles. Furthermore, Labradoodles also inherit curls from Poodles, making them more alluring to pet owners. Here are the colors that you can find in Labradoodles. Apricot Apricot is one of the standard colors available in the Labradoodle family. This golden hue resembles the shade of a Golden Retriever and is among the official Poodle colors. A Labradoodle often inherits this color hue from its parent Poodle, as Poodles often carry the color gene that passes on to their pups. In short, you can thank the parent Poodle for the beautiful shade. Apricot Labradoodles are popular among pet owners as they resemble fluffy teddy bears. Furthermore, the dark brown or black pigment on their eyes, nose, and paws adore apricot Labradoodles with a distinctive look. However, the alluring apricot coloring can fade as your Labradoodle grows older, which might even alter the color altogether. Parti If you think that Parti Labradoodles is a mixed breed of Parti Poodle and Labrador, you might have to think otherwise. Parti Labradoodles have multiple colors on their coat, making them attractive to pet owners who love motley shades. However, producing a Parti Labradoodle is challenging, as you require parents that have carrier genes. But do Labradors carry color genes? In short, Parti Poodles can have multiple colors, including tints of blue or silver on top of their white base color. However, you cannot achieve apricot, golden, or brown as the other shade. Red Red Labradoodles inherit the shade from their parent doodle, and it is one of the popular colors among pet owners. You can compare this color to the apricot shade with a deeper hue. In fact, many dog experts describe the red coloration of a Labradoodle as a mahogany hue due to its color richness. However, producing red Labradoodles is challenging as the color gene is often inactive. Regardless of how the official description describes them, red Labradoodles are adorable and often famous among dog lovers. Black Black Labradoodles are very popular among pet owners due to their distinctive shade. In fact, many dog lovers confuse black Labradoodles with black Goldendoodles. So, you have to mix parents who carry identical color pigments to achieve the result. However, mixing black parent breeds does not guarantee a black Labradoodle, and you might end up with a puppy with a chocolate or hazel shade. Furthermore, black Labradoodles do not have darker or brighter facial parts like other Labradoodle shades. Although getting a black Labradoodle might be tricky, it is still one of the most adorable colors. This shade is standard for Labradoodles, and many people often confuse them with golden or white pups. However, cream Labradoodles have darker coats than white pups and have uniform coloration throughout their coat. Furthermore, some cream Labradoodles have a deeper tint around their mouth, nose, and eyes, making them more adorable. In short, if you are considering a Labradoodle, you can undoubtedly go with the cream color. In fact, you might have to mix three breeds Labrador, Cocker Spaniel, and Poodle to get this color, often considered the Australian Labradoodle. You can compare this color to a bright chocolate shade with inserts of tanned silver. Blue Many people will assume blue Labradoodles as the handy work of an expert designer, but these dogs acquire this shade due to a genetic trait from their parents. For instance, if the parent Poodle has a coat-fading gene, it transfers to the next generation. In short, a Labradoodle pup that inherits this gene will have a shadowy, dark-gray coat hue. Likewise, if both parents have diluted pigments, the puppy born after breeding might have this unique coloration. However, blue Labradoodles start their early days with a black shade, so determining whether it is a blue Labradoodle can be challenging. You can associate this blue shade with a blue-gray or silvery-black hue. Chocolate Chocolate Labradoodles are popular among pet owners, predominantly female dog lovers. The chocolate-brown coloration makes the Labradoodles more appealing and is one of the standard Labradoodle colors. So why are chocolate Labradoodles so common? Since Labrador Retrievers often have brown coloration, Labradoodles inherit this color pigment. Furthermore, the brown gene is also common for Poodles with darker and richer shades than Labradors. In short, chocolate Labradoodles inherit these traits from their parents, picking up the alluring chocolate shade. You can compare this color to mahogany, pecan, or brown shades. Silver Silver Labradoodles are somewhat similar to blue ones, with slight differences. In fact, silver is a rare Labradoodle color, and many pet owners confuse these dogs with blue Labradoodles. Silver Labradoodles have shiny coat hair with silver lines. A Labradoodle pup inherits this shade from its ancestors, including its appearance and coat hue. So do Labradoodles attain the silver coloration by birth? No, which is why silver is a rare color. Silver Labradoodles have a black hair coat at birth, making it tricky to determine which color the pup will attain when it grows. Thankfully, you can consult an experienced dog breeder if you want silver Labradoodles. Chalk Chalk-white or chalk Labradoodles are similar to cream ones with subtle differences. In short, if you notice carefully, chalk-white Labradoodles do not have the cream or white coloration like cream Labradoodles. In fact, if you compare the colors side by side, cream Labradoodles are darker than chalk-white dogs. Furthermore, chalk-white Labradoodles have darker tints around their mouth, eyes, and nose. Although cream and chalk-white Labradoodles might look identical, they are different. So, getting an expert opinion would help you make an informed decision if you want a chalk-white Labradoodle. Merle If you love Labradoodles with spots on their body, opting for a merle Labradoodle will suffice your needs. The merle shade pattern features a solid base shade with multiple spots on a Labradoodle. In short, a merle Labradoodle can have multiple hue patches on top of a solid color, making them unique from other colors. However, the merle gene is complex and often challenging to produce, even for experienced canine breeders. For instance, you must cross a merle Labrador with merle Poodles to achieve this coloration. Furthermore, both merle Poodles and Labradors are rare, making the cross even more challenging. Crossing these rare dogs may produce unhealthy puppies, which may suffer from various health issues. Sable If you want a Labradoodle that stands out in the crowd, you can choose a sable Labradoodle. Although sable pups are not as standard as other colors, they undoubtedly have alluring characteristics with multiple hues. The color combines a base coat, which houses other shades, including the hue on the hair tips. In short, sable puppies can have a brown or black base coat, which eventually turns lighter as they grow older. On the other hand, some sable Labradoodles may retain their deeper colors, making them unpredictable and outrightly interesting for pet owners. Overall, a sable Labradoodle is an excellent option for Labradoodle enthusiasts. Phantom The phantom color is one of the rarest in the Labradoodle family. This shade is a combination of different colors like black, silver, and cream with white markings on multiple body parts. The base color for phantom Labradoodles is black with a touch of silver and cream on their coat. You can also find white markings on their paws, chest, and other parts of the body. The phantom color is more common with phantom Poodles, so you have to ensure that the Poodle parent has the required gene. Sometimes, you may even find phantom Labradoodles in the blue or brown main shade, making them more attractive. In fact, you will know the color of your phantom Labradoodle from the day your puppy breathes its first breath. Overall, phantom Labradoodles are popular among pet owners and are undoubtedly worth considering. Gray Gray Labradoodles inherit their gray coloration from standard Poodle and Labrador parents. In fact, getting a gray Labradoodle is more effortless than other colors mentioned in this list. However, determining the final color is tricky, as gray Labradoodles often have black or brown shades at birth. So, you will have to wait two years to determine the color. Once your puppy grows , it will lose its darker shade and take on a lighter gray tone. The color may vary as your fur friend grows. However, you might confuse the color with a different shade, as silver and gray appear identical during the adult years. Lavender Lavender Labradoodles are often popular with female pet owners as the color depicts a light chocolate tone. In fact, lavender Labradoodles might start their journey with a chocolate coat, which becomes brighter or fades as your dog grows old. Furthermore, the coat shifts to milk chocolate with a pink and grayish hue. Other body parts, including the nose, also inherit this gene pigment, which can turn pink during adulthood. However, lavender Labradoodles are rare, and you will have to consult experts if you are looking for a lavender pup. Although Labradoodles have different rare colors, the rarest of all is the red hue. However, there is a considerable difference as red Labradoodles with black nose pigment are hard to find. Furthermore, red Labradoodles have a solid red shade without any brighter or darker spots on their coat. In short, you might have seen red Labradoodles, but you have to look closely to spot the difference. If you are to go with the flow, opting for a black Labradoodle will suffice your needs. Black Labradoodles are popular among pet owners, which is also one of the standard colors for Labradoodles. You can cross a black Poodle and Labrador to get this shade since black is a dominant gene and easy to inherit. Other popular Labradoodle colors include white, cream, apricot, and chocolate. The Labradoodle is a famous crossbreed that is rapidly gaining popularity around the world. First Labradoodles were created in the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia which wanted to create a dog that has the best characteristics of both of their parent breeds - the Labrador and the Poodle. This popular hybrid was first created by a gentleman called Wally Conron. Little did he know that he will create one of the most popular hybrids in the world. There is a huge discussion going on in the cynology world about the quality of this crossbreed and their health, character, and many other uncertain things. Many labradoodle breeders believe that crossbreed dogs have a larger gene pool that is created by crossing two large gene pools from both breeds. By creating such a large gene pool, these breeders believe that they will create a healthier and better dog breed. Their opposing side says that there are many unknowns when mixing two large gene pools and the possibility of getting bad genes is the same as the possibility of getting good genes in the new puppies. They say that selective breeding is done by good breeders and cynologists have nearly eradicated genetically transmittable diseases and that uncontrollable breeding will do more harm than good. Both sides have some good arguments, and we will let future owners decide what side they will take. The only thing we are sure of is that the Labradoodles are cute as hell and that we certainly understand the appeal of such a hybrid dog breed. We will take a look at the most popular Labradoodle colors that can be found. Black Labradoodle The Black Labradoodle is the most unsurprising color. Original Labradors were mostly black and that is one of their strongest genes. Standard Poodles are also most commonly black so if you mix both black-colored parents, the new Labradoodle puppies will most likely end up with a black coat. The exact coat coloring and texture are unknown and cannot be predicted. Black Labradoodle puppies can end up having one of these four types of coat - Straight, wavy, curly fleece, or wooly coat. You can only be sure about the texture of their coat when the puppies grow up and have already fully developed. It comes in different colors to choose from. Chocolate Labradoodle The Chocolate Labradoodle is rarer than the black one but still easily found worldwide. The most common way to get chocolate Labradoodles is to crossbreed chocolate Labradors with brown chocolate Poodles. There is also a probability that a yellow Labrador and a black Poodle can produce chocolate Labradoodles. The most dominant color gene is black; other color genes are recessive weaker. That also means that black dogs carry genes of other colors so two black dogs may produce a chocolate puppy. Chocolate Labradoodles are just like any other Labradoodle, except they have a beautiful brown coat. There is also a theory that connects chocolate-colored dogs with a specific set of characteristics, but that is all it is - a theory. White Labradoodle The white Labradoodle is even rarer than the chocolate Labradoodle. Other than the coat color, they are not that different from other Labradoodles. It is interesting to know how a white Labradoodle comes to life. As we know, there are no white Labradors, and if there are some, it is because of albinism, and dogs that are affected with albinism are not allowed to breed. Albinism is a genetic problem that causes a lack of pigmentation. The gene that is responsible for the white coat color is called the S gene, and Labradors do not have it. Only Poodles carry the S gene and can transmit that gene to their potential offspring. White color is still considered as a lack of pigmentation, and it can be tricky to determine which dogs are white and which dogs have albinism. An accurate way to determine that is to take a look at the pigmentation in their eyes and their nose. Albino dogs lack pigmentation in their whole bodies, while white dogs have pigmentation everywhere except their coat. Red Labradoodle Labradoodles, in general, came to life when a blind woman needed a seeing-eye dog, but her husband was extremely allergic to dog hair. She reached out to the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia, and they decided to have a go at creating a hypoallergenic seeing-eye dog. Those colors are apricot, caramel, red, and red caramel. For example, apricot Labradoodles should have black noses and dark brown eyes, while caramel Labradoodles should have liver-colored noses and amber to hazel-green eyes. This is only as far as we know so far since this crossbreed could not have been studied yet properly. What we do know is that all the shades of red make Labradoodles look stunning and gorgeous. Silver Labradoodles Silver Labradoodle is also called grey Labradoodle. It is one of the most popular color options for people that are keen on getting a Labradoodle, and we can certainly understand why. However, it is highly unlikely that you will come across a silver Labradoodle because they are quite rare. The silver Labradoodle can inherit that color only if both of their parents, a purebred Labrador and a purebred Poodle, carry a recessive silver gene. That might be a bit tricky since purebred Labradors are only allowed in three colors, and those are black, brown, and yellow. Purebred Poodles are allowed to be black, brown, grey, and fawn. It is most likely that you will have to contact a good breeder of one of these breeds that specializes in breeding silver or grey Poodles and ask for their help. It would be best if grey poodles could be crossed with yellow Labs. That is the biggest possibility to get silver Labradoodles. Generally, Labradoodles are friendly and happy dogs that are very affectionate with their family. As their creator intended, they are great service dogs if they are properly bred and get good genes. If you are thinking about getting this dog, we advise you to rethink your decision and pick one pureblood dog breed. In case you are made a firm decision about this dog, although it is a crossbreed, try to follow these general rules when buying a Labradoodle. Ask the breeder as many questions as possible about your new Labradoodle puppy. If it is possible, go to the breeder's home and see the breeding dogs yourself. Check the conditions they are being kept in, and how they are interacting with the breeder, and ask to see the health certificates of both of the puppy's parents. If you want to check your dog's DNA and see what breeds have been mixed, you can do that at home now. Most puppies can get hip dysplasia if they are being bred from parents that have bad hips, so make sure you ask the breeder for hip scans of both of the puppies parents. Try and pick a middle-of-the-road puppy. Do not take a puppy that is hiding in the corner or one that is attacking its littermates. We want to encourage you to do your research and make sure that the breeder you are buying a Labradoodle from is as reputable as it can be without being a part of any cynology association. World Dog Finder team. Red Labradoodle Color The coat is rich and dark-colored that may even be compared to a color of a mahogany shade. The physical traits of this dog are similar to a sweet teddy bear for its nose, toenails, and eye rims have black features with a golden and apricot coat. This may be the reason for its trending popularity among Labradoodle dog pet lovers. The golden or the apricot color may have been the fusion of the genetics of darker brown, silver, and blue traits. As they age, the Golden Labradoodle shade wanes and fades and may even be mistaken for a Cream Labradoodle later on for the faded coat color. The black color may result from the breeding of a black poodle to a chocolate Labrador Retriever. The black color is made possible when both of the parents are of the darker shade. However, this may not be a hundred percent guarantee that having a breed of both darker shades will lead to an offspring of black Labradoodle. Sometimes, it may result in brown color or chocolate Labradoodle. Since the black color may be classified as a recessive trait, having a black Labradoodle is a popular color. It may be said that this type of genetic coloring may be a multi-coloring that may have the hues of red, black, chocolate, blue, and patches of grays and creams. Changing Labradoodle Colors To make things even more interesting, a Doodle puppy can be born one color, and change to another color as he grows up. In fact, Labradoodles are notorious for having coats that change color or fade as they get older. If you notice that the rich coat of your Labradoodle puppy is lighter or even a different color as he matures, this is due to the genetic influence of the Poodle. Coat Color Genetics Puppies get coat color genes from both parents. For example, the most common gene for a black coat is dominant, and the gene for a brown coat is recessive. When a dog inherits them both, the recessive brown gene is masked by the effect of the dominant black gene. But they can still pass their gene for a brow coat onto their puppies. This is how the Labradoodle offspring of a Lab and a Poodle can have so many surprising colors, which may not match either parent. Pigments in Labradoodle Coats Even though Doodles come in many colors, one of the most remarkable things about them is that they are all the result of just two pigments: eumelanin, which is black and pheomelanin, which is red. Black Labradoodles Black Labradoodles are one of the most popular colors of Labradoodle. They are usually produced by a black Labrador Retriever and a black Poodle. Some black Labradoodles have a white medallion or bib on their chest. Chocolate Labradoodles The chocolate Labradoodle sports a rich dark brown coat. Chocolate Labradors have a reputation for being more excitable, more agitated when ignored, and harder to train than yellow and black Labs. Chocolate Labradoodle temperament will also be influenced by their Poodle parent, and whether their Lab parent was a show or a working dog. Cream Labradoodles Not to be mistaken for white, the cream Labradoodle is slightly darker. They can be nearly yellow to almost white, and many hues in between. Besides coming in a range of shades, cream Labradoodles can have light or dark colored noses and a spectrum of different eye colors. Which means you rarely see the exact same combination twice, and each cream Labradoodle is particularly unique. White Labradoodles A white coat is the result of a lack of pigmentation in the fur. Although technically spotted, the spots of a white Labradoodle are simply so big that they overlap their entire body. Albino dogs lack the genetic instructions for making pigment at all. Golden Labradoodles The golden Labradoodle coat is also referred to as apricot because they are often the color of the inside of a ripe apricot fruit. This shade can range from light to dark orange-gold. Noses are usually black. Mating a mating a yellow Labrador with an apricot Poodle is one way of getting a golden Labradoodle. Red Labradoodles Red Labradoodles are a deep rich mahogany, thanks to the red pheomelanin pigment. The red coat gene is recessive, meaning red Labradoodles would be relatively rare if Labradoodles wild animals. But be warned — red is another color that can fade as the dog grows older. These dogs will have dark brown eyes and a black nose. Silver and Blue Labradoodles Designated as two separate colors by the ALAA, silver and blue Labradoodles are similar and unusual, as they are produced by recessive genes. Silver Labradoodles puppies are born black, and develop into shades ranging from light slate to dark charcoal. Lavender Labradoodles Lavender Labradoodles are as lovely and rare as they sound. They bear a distinctive smoky chocolate hue that gives them a sort of lilac aura. And they owe their special tint to a cocktail of two recessive coat color types — brown, and dilute. These pups are born chocolate fade to lavender as they grow older. Even the nose pigment in the dogs will be rose to match. You can get black and white Labradoodles , or even multiple color combinations. Parti Labradoodles Parti Labradoodles carry the parti gene. Nose pigment will match the solid color. Phantom Labradoodles With phantom Labradoodles the majority of the body is one solid color with distinctly defined markings of a second color above each eye, sides of the muzzle, chin, chest, paws and below the tail. They can be any two colors, but a classic variation is black with gold markings. Phantom Labradoodles are relatively unusual. Sable Labradoodles Rarer yet, is the sable Labradoodle. Brown or black-tipped hairs are found on any solid color, but these dogs are most often tan or red. So a sable Labradoodle puppy who has tan fur with black tips will become simply tan once their coat is clipped for the first time. And that might even fade to cream when they mature — a very different overall look to how they started out in life! But some puppies will be born with straight hair like the Labrador and will shed plenty. Labradoodle Colors How amazing are the coat colors of the Labradoodle? Have you chosen a favorite?
