That way, you can better understand which characteristics and traits to expect in your French Bullweiler. History of the French Bulldog The French Bulldog sometimes called the Frenchie is an endearing dog with a fascinating and complicated past. This domestic dog was bred for one main reason. Namely, this dog was bred to be a companion animal. This stocky and compact canine is friendly, mild in temperament, and devoted to its owner. When we say that the history of the French Bulldog is a complicated one, we mean it. It all started in , when Blood Sports such as bull-baiting, were outlawed in England. This left many Bulldogs unemployed. However, some Bulldogs had been bred for non-sporting reasons. So, these dogs were crossbred with Rat Terriers from the slums of England. By the year , the Toy Bulldog was developed and became common in England. Simultaneously in Nottingham, many lace workers had been displaced by the Industrial Revolution. These workers began settling in Normandy and Paris. These displaced workers brought many dogs with them, including the English Toy Bulldog. In France, these Toy Bulldogs became extremely popular. The French particularly liked very tiny Toy Bulldogs with ears that stood up. So, the English continued to trade these types of Toy Bulldogs to the French. In the region of Montmartre, France, these dogs were particularly popular. This was especially true in the bustling nightlife district. Known for its selection of working Parisians, cabarets, artists, and museums, this region was all about uniqueness. Amidst all of these bustling industries, Montmartre had many brothels. The women working in these brothels enjoyed plunging necklines, silk stockings, large skirts, and the compact snub nose dog that would later become the official French Bulldog. Over the next few years, these dogs were bred for two main purposes. The first purpose was to have a unique appearance with large cartoonish round ears and snub noses. The second purpose was to be companion animals that were calm and devoted. Many women in France would carry around these dogs as a status symbol. Eventually, people began bringing these dogs to the United States of America. There was even a French Bulldog on the Titanic! In time, the breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club and is still extremely popular today for its calm quirky temperament and signature look. History of the Rottweiler The history of the Rottweiler is much less complicated than that of the French Bulldog. Rottweilers are thought to come from the north Germanic regions of the Ancient Roman Empire. These canines have been recorded in history as the dogs of Roman soldiers. The Rottweiler was also used to herd sheep, guard cattle, protect property, and more. As time went on, Rottweilers became famous throughout Germany. These dogs were used to accompany butchers and protect them as they traded and traveled. Also, the Rottweiler was used to pull carts in Germany and even became popular in England and Austria. Generally, you can expect a puppy to grow into a small, medium, or even large-sized dog with bold yet loving temperament traits. Expect your French Bulldog Rottweiler mix to weigh anywhere from 25 to 50 pounds when fully grown. This dog may also be as small as 11 inches at the shoulder or as large as 20 inches tall at the shoulder. It will all depend on the specific genetic mix of your unique French Bullweiler. They are intelligent and capable of learning a range of tasks. However, Rottweilers are also known for having a stubborn streak. Simultaneously, French Bulldogs are extremely loving and tend to be on the mellow side for small dogs. Just like with Rottweilers, French Bulldogs may have a stubborn streak. Appearance of a French Bulldog Rottweiler Mix This dog will likely have a short coat, a rounded tail, and large rounded almost bat-like ears. Also, since French Bulldogs and Rottweilers both have distinctive muzzles, you can expect this dog to have a very boxy-shaped head with a short muzzle. However, you can expect pretty consistent coat colors with a French Bullweiler. This is because French Bullweilers are bred to showcase the stout body of the French Bulldog with the distinctive markings of the Rottweiler. In general, the coat of this dog will be black, dark brown, or chocolate brown. Then, it will have markings on the eyebrows, muzzle, and possibly on the paws and belly, just like a Rottweiler. In These instances, the coat colors can vary from brindle to beige, white, tan, black, or even lilac or chocolate. This is because French Bulldogs come in almost every coat color. French Bulldogs tend to live about 12 years. Rottweilers also tend to live about 12 years. So, you can expect your dog to be with you for many years to come! However, when it comes to weight, you can expect your pup to have gained quite a bit. Your puppy should already be around sixty-five to seventy pounds by the end of this time period. Ah, adulthood! Now, you can rest from all that puppy mayhem even though it was rather cute. When your pup reaches adulthood, it should stop developing. However, you might notice that Bernedoodles take their sweet time reaching adulthood when compared to other dog breeds. Imagine — a puppy for two years! This is the time mark when they will have attained their adult weight and height. How Big Do Bernedoodles Get? Factors That Affect Growth There are four factors that affect how quickly or slowly your Bernedoodle will grow: type of Bernedoodle, generation of Bernedoodle, nutrition, and physical health. We will discuss all of these factors in detail below! Genetics: Type Of Bernedoodle. If you can recall, there are three different kinds of Bernedoodles, and the type of Bernedoodle you have is the largest indication of how large your puppy will become. The issue with the type of Bernedoodle is that they can be mixed with your Standard Poodle, a Toy Poodle, or even an Aussiedoodle — all of which have different sizes that determine the growth of their offspring. Mini Bernedoodle Toy Bernedoodle Minis are the cutest among the Bernedoodle family, being the smallest of the three types and having been a crossbreed between a Miniature Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog. At eight weeks of age, you will find that your Mini Bernedoodle puppy will weigh around ten pounds, which is not radically different from the other Doodle types, but you will notice a drastic difference after the first eight weeks. It will reach its full size at around forty-four weeks of age, even though its weight might fluctuate, but not dramatically. If you measure this small dog, you will find that its adult height is around twelve to seventeen inches, and its weight is about twenty-four pounds, if fed appropriately. Of course, one is always faced with the unfortunate reality of obese dogs. Medium Bernedoodle Medium Bernedoodles are larger dogs when compared to the adorable Minis, and their maximum height lies somewhere between eighteen and twenty-two inches when they reach adulthood. You can measure this height from the shoulders to the feet. Their maximum healthy weight will be around twenty-four and forty-nine pounds. If you pay attention to the Bernedoodle growth chart, you will notice that Mediums will weigh approximately eighteen pounds at eight weeks of age, and bounce up to thirty-six pounds by week twenty! A whopping difference! Your Medium will achieve its adult size at about a year of age, which means that they attain their final size when it comes to weight and height sooner than the Standard Bernedoodle. However, you should not be worried if your Medium does not hit these weights and heights because there is considerable variation in this breed. As long as your dog is following its natural growth curve, it should be fine. Standard Bernedoodle The Standard Bernedoodle is the largest of the types of Bernedoodle out there, and they grow until they are two years old. A Standard can weigh up to twenty-four pounds by the time it is eight weeks old, and it will grow very rapidly, attaining forty-six pounds by the twentieth week of age. The maximum height of your Standard is approximately between twenty-three and twenty-nine inches when measured from the shoulder to the feet. Remember, since this is a mixed dog breed, it can be difficult to tell how large each type should be. Genetics: Generation Of Bernedoodle. There are three types of Bernedoodles when we are talking about Bernedoodle generations that affect dog size: the F1B Bernedoodle, the F1 Bernedoodle, and the Australian Bernedoodle. The generation of Bernedoodle is important because it determines the percentage of dog breed that is in your mixed Bernedoodle breed, and this can heavily affect how large your dog will become. F1 Bernedoodles The first type we will go over is the F1 Bernedoodle, which is a breed of Bernedoodle that is fifty percent Poodle and fifty percent Bernese Mountain Dog. This is usually what people think about when they hear about the Bernedoodle. An F1 Doodle will reach its full height at twelve to fourteen months of age. However, it takes them much longer to reach their adult weight, which will be at approximately two and a half years of age. This means that it takes them much more time to develop when compared to other dogs. Seventy-five percent of its genes will be Poodle, whereas only twenty-five percent will be Bernese Mountain Dog. F1B Bernedoodles reach their full height when they are a year old, and attain their final weight between the eighteenth- and twentieth-month mark. Australian Bernedoodle This is probably the most exotic of the Bernedoodle generation types since it is a mix of Poodle, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Aussiedoodle, making it much more difficult to tell what your dog will end up weighing by adulthood, considering this mix. However, we can give some approximates. Usually, the Australian Bernedoodle will have reached its maximum height by the time it is a year old, and its final weight by the time it is two. Even though nutrition will most likely not affect how quickly your dog will grow, or affect your dog attaining a height or weight that is not set in its genetic code, it can affect your dog negatively if you serve your dog a poor diet. Chances are he will suffer from a joint dysfunction and other diseases later on in his life. You also should talk to a vet about possible supplementation, and whether your dog needs it at all in order to grow at a better rate. We would not recommend giving your dog any additional supplements without consulting a vet first. Physical Health. Physical health is very important when it comes to how healthy your Bernedoodle will be. After they run themselves down, they will require lots of rest in order to recover from all of that exercise achieved through play. However, as your Bernedoodle grows, you will realize that it will require more than its puppy drive to keep it healthy. Walks and goal-oriented games are a great way to ensure that your puppy is developing in a healthy manner. You might be wondering if the Bernedoodle growth chart we have prepared indirectly indicates that your dog is suffering in some way unknown to you. Growth charts generally are created based on averages in dog populations, and not every single dog will be the average fit. Your dog might be a healthy outlier! Another reason why your dog might not fit the Bernedoodle growth chart we have created is because Bernedoodles are a mixed breed, which means that there is a lot of variety in their genetic makeup. However, there is a slight chance that Bernedoodles might still develop conditions such as hip dysplasia , elbow dysplasia , allergies, eyes issues, or skin eyes. At the end of the day, you can always ask your doctor for more advice. You might be wondering if the lifespan set in the genetics of your Bernedoodle affects how it will grow. You still might be wondering how long your Bernedoodle will live, especially if your pup has already reached adulthood. In that case, you should know that smaller Bernedoodles tend to have a longer lifespan when compared to their larger family members. You can expect an F1 Bernedoodle to live for about twelve years, whereas a Mini might live up to eighteen years of age. Just make sure that you take care of your pup throughout its life by feeding it a good diet, taking it to the vet, and maintaining a good exercise routine. Conclusion: Bernedoodle Growth Chart We truly hope that we have helped you answer all of your Bernedoodle questions related to growth, and that this Bernedoodle growth chart was of use to you. We hope that this puppy growth chart as well as the puppy weight calculator approximations have helped you figure out how large your Bernedoodle should be. Just make sure that you are up to date with everything that ensures healthy puppy development like proper diet and good health care. You can always ask your vet for more information if you have any additional questions related to your unique Bernedoodle pup! Post navigation. As mentioned earlier, Bernedoodles come in three varieties, and each one matures at a different rate. Toy and tiny versions develop more quickly and often need between 8 and 12 months to attain their maximum growth potential. For larger pups to reach full size, it can take up to 14 months or even up to 2 years. Image Credit: Cavan-Images, Shutterstock Factors Affecting the Size of Bernedoodles Knowing when and how large your puppy will grow is crucial for responsible pet ownership. You can better prepare for adult life by paying attention to the variables that influence their growth rate and size. Feeding them a healthy diet that is tailored for their size and growth stage is key for proper growth. For example, puppies need more calories in general, so feeding them puppy-specific food is essential. Knowing this will enable you to provide healthy and happy care for your beloved animal. Be sure to give them lots of healthy food, playtime, and affection. Ideal Diet for Maintaining a Healthy Weight The recommended weight for pets will vary depending on their breed, age, and height. So, there is no one-size-fits-all healthy weight for animals. Leaner meat, like chicken, turkey, fish, lamb, or lean cattle, is the best choice. It is also vital to consider the caloric value and energy density of the food you decide to feed them. Giving your dog a diet of only kibble is totally fine. Image Credit: Cobra Nicole, Shutterstock How to Measure Your Bernedoodle When determining how much your furry friend has grown over time or entering them in dog shows, knowing their height is a must. The withers are the highest part of their shoulder blades. Do it only when your dog is standing for the most accurate measurements. Conclusion We hope that this Bernedoodle growth chart was helpful to you and that we were able to assist you in finding the answers to all of your queries regarding growth in Bernedoodles. We know it can be challenging to understand some phases of their maturation from a puppy to an adult. Before learning details about the Bernedoodle size chart, it is important to explore this dog breed. Although the first Bernedoodles were probably created by accident, some breeders started fusing Bernese mountain dogs and poodles on purpose. The breed standard, which is a written description of the ideal physical and temperamental characteristics of the breed, has been the guide for centuries of purebred breeders. Because of this, purebred dogs have a relatively uniform appearance, with known height and weight, body shape, color, and coat type. The Bernedoodle is not recognized by any of the respected purebred dog registries, such as the American Kennel Club or the United Kennel Club, because it is a hybrid and not a purebred dog. Additionally, lacking a recognized breed standard, the Bernedoodle has a wide range of individual variations in appearance and behavior. It might be difficult to predict what you would get if you purchased a Bernedoodle puppy since various breeders may have varied notions of what defines a Bernedoodle. First-generation crossings F1 , second-generation F2 , third-generation F3 , and so forth are known as Bernedoodles. In an F1 litter, the puppies that are born might vary greatly. Some could resemble Bernese Mountain Dogs while others might resemble poodles. Some puppies may resemble a cross between the two parent breeds, while others may not resemble either parent breed at all. A litter of F1 Bernedoodle puppies can vary greatly in terms of coat style and shedding. Additionally, the coat types of F2 Bernedoodles vary. To improve coat type uniformity, some breeders add extra poodles to the bloodlines. They may grow to a maximum size of 70—90 pounds and 23—29 inches. Bernedoodles are mixed-breed dogs , as was previously indicated. The sizes of the parent dogs have the greatest influence on the height and weight of the offspring Bernedoodles. Their eventual Bernedoodle size chart is influenced by things including genetic inheritance, the generation they belong to, and gender. However, their environment and nutritional upbringing also have an impact on their eventual size. The variations include a tiny Bernedoodle, a medium Bernedoodle, and a standard Bernedoodle. Here is a summary of what to anticipate for each breed in the Bernedoodle size chart from the time they are puppies to their mature sizes. Tiny Bernedoodle Naturally, tiny Bernedoodles are the smallest of the breeds, according to the Bernedoodle size chart. They should weigh about 10 pounds when they are 8 weeks old, which is comparable to the weight of other Bernedoodle breeds. But after that, the disparity really changes. A week-old mini Bernedoodle puppy should weigh around 20 pounds. Tiny Bernedoodles are the smallest ones in the Bernedoodle size chart. These canines may weigh around 24 pounds and reach heights of up to 17 inches at the shoulder. This is because Mini Bernedoodles are a cross between Mini Poodles. Poodle puppies weigh between 6 and 9 pounds and are just 10 inches tall at the shoulder. Medium Bernedoodle Compared to tiny, medium Bernedoodles are larger in the Bernedoodle size chart. Medium Bernedoodle dogs may weigh between 24 and 49 pounds and reach heights of up to 18 to 22 inches at the shoulder. The progenitor breeds are Mini Poodles, which stand at a height of around 15 inches and weigh 12 to 20 pounds, and Bernese Mountain Dogs. The Bernedoodle size chart shows that at 8 weeks of age, they can weigh around 15 pounds, and by 20 weeks of age, they can weigh up to 35 pounds. Medium Bernedoodles reach their maximum size at around a year of age. However, this breed still has a good range of weights and heights. Standard Bernedoodles do not reach maturity until they are at least 2 years old. The height at the shoulder of a standard Bernedoodle can range from 23 to 29 inches, and they can weigh up to pounds. They will be on the larger-range side if they inherit a higher percentage from the larger parent breed and vice versa. Either one or both parents are purebreds, allowing them to express the dominant gene and grow to such a large size. The parent dog breeds of the standard Bernedoodle are the Bernese Mountain Dog, which stands at 23—28 inches and weighs 79— pounds, and the Standard Poodle, which stands tall at the shoulder at 18—24 inches and weighs roughly 45—70 pounds. Although it does vary depending on the breed, on average, you may anticipate a newborn Bernedoodle to weigh about 1 pound at birth. However, that weight should double within the first week or two. Your Bernedoodle puppy could weigh as much as 35 pounds at 12 weeks of age. Age Of Six Months Your Bernedoodle puppy may weigh 45 to 55 pounds when he is between 4 and 6 months old. Around this time, his development will start to slow down, but his hunger is probably still ravenous. Since he is probably burning off a lot of calories when he plays, you should actually eat three times a day to make sure he gets enough calories. Age Of Twelve Months Between 10 and 12 months of age, there is still some growth. By this time, the growth will have significantly slowed down, but you can still anticipate some weight gain. By the time your dog turns one, he should weigh between 65 and 70 pounds, but that is not his final weight. Adult Bernedoodle Finally, your dog should cease growing once he reaches adulthood. Bernedoodles can continue to develop until the age of two, at which point they will have reached their full size. Do not become alarmed if your dog continues to gain weight after turning one since they stop growing in height before they stop growing in weight. Bottom Line Above in this article, we explored the Bernedoodle size chart. The development of your Bernedoodle puppy might be impacted by a variety of factors, and every dog breed is distinct. One thing is clear, though: depending on the type of Bernedoodle you have, this breed can either be very large or very small. Now that these adorable puppies are becoming more well-known, we have enough knowledge to be able to estimate their costs more accurately. As a travel enthusiast and animal lover, she hopes to inspire others to discover and cherish the beauty and importance of the natural world.
I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. Free Bulldog Puppy Starter Kit! The neck should be solid; shoulders should be well muscled and well defined. Elbows should be in line with the dog's shoulders and feet. The musculature is not extreme or bulging as to allow for agility, quickness and endurance. The coat is coarse with slight feathering on backs of hind legs. Black-only pigmentation and spotting is found on the skin, around the eyes, on the nose and lips and the genitalia. The head is square with noticeable or moderate stop. Supra-orbital arches pronounced with a center crease between the eyes to the back of the head. Bite: Scissor, reverse scissor to 1" under at most. The ears are rolled or flapped. The eyes can be any shade of brown, amber okay; blue is considered a fault in the breed. The feet are round and compact with noticeable webbing between toes. When the tail is not docked, it is thick at the base and feathered at the end. Temperament The White English Bulldog is a family and livestock protection dog. It is a controller and retriever of the roughest livestock, even in wetlands. It suffices as an all-around hunter from treeing squirrels to bears. A very old and extremely rare breed in its true form, the WEB is a medium to large dog bred as an all-around farm and stock dog, specifically for protection of such. It is loyal and fiercely protective of its master, the master's family, property, livestock and especially the children. As with all dogs, be sure you are this dog's true pack leader , and it will be submissive to its handlers. The WEB is not bred to be a hunting dog, though it suffices adequately. Height, Weight Height: Females 20 - 24 inches 51 - 70 cm Males 21 - 25 inches 53 - 63 cm Weight: Females: 55 - 85 pounds 25 - 39 kg Males 65 - pounds .Living Conditions Living conditions are described as those for a farm dog: large, open areas with free run. Most do not do well in kennels or indoors. These dogs need to work and perform their duties. Exercise Needs a job to do. If the dog is in between jobs, for example, between hunting seasons, it needs to be taken for at least a long daily walk. Life Expectancy. Vocality level 1 in 5 Disclaimer: While the characteristics mentioned here may frequently represent this breed, dogs are individuals whose personalities and appearances will vary. Please consult the adoption organization for details on a specific pet. He is willing to please, although he retains a stubborn streak. He is very good with children. Most are moderately friendly toward strangers. Although some can be aggressive with strange dogs, the breed is quite good with other pets. Upkeep The Bulldog appreciates a daily outing but cannot tolerate hot humid weather, which can be deadly. He should not be expected to jog or walk great distances, or to jump from any heights. Most Bulldogs cannot swim. Most Bulldogs wheeze and snore, and some drool. Coat care is minimal, but facial wrinkles and any folds around the tail should be cleaned daily. Special precautions must be taken when anesthetizing a Bulldog. Caesarean deliveries are commonly needed. Hip radiographs show most Bulldogs to be dysplastic but few show overt symptoms. History With the most distinctive mug in dogdom, the Bulldog has an equally distinctive history. Some Bulldogs were also set against bears for bear baiting, purely for entertainment. In , bull baiting was outlawed, and a new phase began for the Bulldog. By all rights, the breed should have become extinct, except that it had gained so many ardent admirers that they set out to rescue the Bulldog by selecting against ferocity while still maintaining—and often accentuating—its distinctive physical characteristics. Its tough steadfast persona led it to be identified as a national symbol of England. Its amiable clownish personality belies its appearance, and the Bulldog is a popular pet. Related Content.
Any puppies that qualify as a German Shepherd Mix are a cross between a German Shepherd and another dog breed. In a mixed breed, you can get any mix of characteristics in the parent breeds. German Shepherds tend to be strong-willed, intelligent, playful, and loyal. To get a full idea of what to expect in your puppy, be sure to ask the breeder about the other dog breed in the cross and check out the mother dog in-person to get a general idea about size and temperament. On the German Shepherd side, you have an independent dog with high intelligence and a playful spirit. German Shepherds make great family pets and are born protectors. Because of their protective instinct, they can be suspicious of strangers. Socialization early and often can help curb this suspicion and make them more open to new people and situations. German Shepherds also tend to be loving and have a lively personality. The German Shepherd Mix can have any or all of these characteristics plus any characteristics from the other parent breed in the mix. Before buying a German Shepherd Mix puppy and bringing them home, be sure to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed. If the puppies are being family-raised around children, you should be able to get an idea of how they will do in a family setting that includes children. The German Shepherd is a moderately adaptable working dog that was bred to guard, work, and herd. They do not tend to do well in apartments and are best-suited for houses with yards. GSDs prefer to be with their families and do not like to be alone. They also tend to prefer cooler climates as they are sensitive to heat. With a German Shepherd Mix, you could get a moderately adaptable dog that is just like a purebred German Shepherd. You could also end up with a dog that is more like the other parent breed. Talking with the breeder about the other parent breed can give you a good idea of what to expect. German Shepherds can be prone to elbow and hip dysplasia. You will need to ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross to get an idea of any other health concerns to be aware of in your German Shepherd Mix. Health screenings, clearances, and the genetic history of the parents can help allay concerns about potential health conditions. On the German Shepherd side, training and obedience classes are highly recommended for novice dog owners. Although GSDs are highly intelligent, pick up on things quickly, and train fairly easily, they can be stubborn with an independent streak. Regardless of the other parent breed in the cross, you should be prepared to enroll in obedience and training classes with your German Shepherd Mix. The experience will be beneficial to both you and your puppy and will also offer some opportunities for socialization. You will still want to ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross to get an understanding of what to expect during the training process. Professional grooming a few times a year and the occasional bath is also recommended. Regardless of the coat type, your German Shepherd Mix will need to have their nails trimmed monthly and their teeth brushed regularly. Not every dog will allow you to do this, so try to get a tooth brushing session in at least a few times a week to reduce tartar buildup. This will help prevent dental problems like tooth decay and gum disease. Plus, it will help cut down on bad breath! German Shepherds tend to have a high activity level. They were bred to run, herd, guard, and protect, so they are used to working and having a job to do. They are definitely not a lazy dog breed! Be sure to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed in the mix. You will still want to go in prepared for a high energy dog with the understanding that your German Shepherd Mix puppy may have an activity level closer to the other breed in the cross. If both are high energy dogs breeds, expect to end up with a high energy dog. A German Shepherd is a large dog breed that generally weighs between 55 and 90 pounds. They also usually stand between 22 and 26 inches tall at the shoulders. The other dog breed in the cross could result in a smaller or larger German Shepherd Mix. A German Shepherd generally lives for years. You should be able to expect a similar range in your German Shepherd Mix, but the other dog breed in the cross could affect this range. They are willing to sit and talk through any questions you have, they give you a lot of information about the breed, and what to expect when you bring your puppy home. Another big plus for us was seeing that the kennels were clean and all the dogs that we saw looked very healthy. Our puppy was the sweetest when he first met us! He ran up to us, showered us in puppy kisses, and was just overall a happy chill little dude. He just had his first vet appointment and was given a clean bill of health! He is sweet, gentle, and such a fast learner! I have never met any dog with this level of intelligence and at such a young age! We have only had him for 6 days and he has settled in so quick and has already learned basic commands. Thank you so much Jeff and Rhonda for our new little addition to our family! When we first went to meet with them and take a peek at Adrian and Barus litter, we liked that they had all the dogs in the home and the home was clean!!! Adrian had a calm temperament as well as the rest of the dogs. Caught on extremely quick w the training and is extremely good with our young grandchildren. We definitely chose the right breeders. Good communication and great canine genetics are obvious! Response from the owner Thank you so much April for the kind words. Rhonda and I try very hard to make things special for our puppy families. Pride and integrity means everything to us. Rhonda takes care of pupies like her own kids! We have 3 of their dogs one male that is the puppy of untox and panja. H gets to play fight likes that and playing with his ball. Rhonda was spectacular to work with, detailed and friendly. She is one of the most intelligent, healthy puppies we have ever owned and her temperament with our family is world class. When we were looking for a puppy we met with Rhonda and could not of been happier. There dogs were so well behaved, stunningly gorgeous and just wanted to be loved. Exactly what my wife and I were looking for. We all no there is never any guarantees in life when it comes to purchasing a puppy, but I can say we have a true champion in our little Bella. She has been a total blessing since we got her. Thanks Rhonda and Jeff!! Response from the owner.

Share 0 Shares Possibly the most important thing to consider when choosing a Golden Retriever breeder is that they focus on the health, longevity, and temperament of their dogs. This means that they do not just care about what their dog looks like, but that they are also healthy and have a solid personality. In order to do this, all reputable Golden Retriever breeders will health test their dogs to ensure that their lines will be as genetically healthy as possible. According to the Golden Retriever Club of America, these health tests should at least include screening for hip and elbow problems and screening for a variety of eye conditions. Similarly, reputable Golden Retriever breeders will socialize their puppies from a young age to give them a good start in life and set them up for having a good temperament. Here are the top 7 Golden Retriever breeders in Maryland. Additionally, this breeder is also a proud member of the Golden Retriever Club of America. The main goal of these breeders is to bring healthy, happy, and good-natured Golden Retriever puppies into loving homes. To ensure that their dogs are genetically healthy, this breeder clears all of her dogs through health testing. Puppies are also kept up to date on their vaccinations and deworming, and they are also seen by a vet before going to their new homes. Puppies receive an extensive amount of socialization from an early age to ensure that they are ready to go to their new homes as well. Please note that this breeder requests that you fill out their puppy application form before making inquiries about puppies or putting a deposit down. From here you will need to wait for approval from the breeder and wait for the next steps. Name of Owner.

Rosie became the foundation for our breeding progam and was known as "Momma Rose" around our house. She passed away in but her legacy lives on in the dogs we breed. Around that time my mom decided to separate her dogs names from the Driftwood kennel we had originally bought from and she chose Rosewood Goldens after our beloved Rosie. That all took place in Lemont Ill which is 30 miles south west of Chicago. With that change I decided to distinguish my dogs from my mom's though I am proud to have the same bloodlines so we sought a kennel name. My husband came up with the call name Breeze for our first pup we raised together. As well on our commute between Chicago and VA we pass a town called Breezewood so it just fit-Breezewood Kennel it is! My mom, Joyce, passed away due to pancreatic cancer on Oct. Joyce left a legacy of her unshakable faith, commitment to family and of course her love of animals and desire to breed great Goldens! At the time my mom passed away she had dogs she co-owned and had plans to go forward with breeding. She had signed those dogs over to me and I am happy to say we are continuing those lines! In March of my husband, son and I made the move back to the chicagoland area and plan to stay near our home city from here on out! Currently we are living in Joliet. Breezewood Kennel. The Vissell family in with their first litter of Golden Retrievers, their family hobby. Top Quality Golden Retrievers as Loving Companions We trust that you will enjoy and treasure your puppy and that he or she will become a valuable member of your family. We breed our female dogs every other heat cycle, only once every year and a half to two years, after they have passed all the health clearances at age two. At age six they are retired from breeding and remain a vital part of the family. Breeding and raising the puppies from birth is our family project and we each enter into our specific duties with joy and enthusiasm. Our family has a lot of love and respect for one another and we give that same love and respect to each puppy. This is our unique quality as The Golden Light Kennel. The puppies spend their first five weeks right in our home hearing human voices and being picked up and loved. A typical scene at dinner is all of us sitting around the table taking turns holding the different puppies and having fun with them. After five weeks they outgrow their inside pen and go to the outdoor area, just feet away from our dining room. We spend a lot of time sitting in the pen, holding and playing with them. Several times a day they each get a chance to experience a supervised play time in the backyard. Early human contact and love are important for producing a great pet with the ability to be easily trained. Princess Grace of Golden Light comes from a long line of show dogs. Because of the quality breeding, the dogs are gentle, smart and beautiful. Both the parents of these puppies have their health clearances. Nothing is more heartbreaking than to purchase a puppy that has not been bred well and have it develo p hip, elbow, heart or eye problems which cause much pain and expense. Our first golden retriever, which was purchased over 40 years ago, was not bred well. He developed hip and other problems. Because of that experience we have chosen to breed our puppies in the highest and best way possible. We nourish the mother and puppy with the best nutrition we can get. The puppies will have two wormings and will receive their first puppy vaccine. You will receive a record of this when you pick up your puppy. Thank you for choosing the Golden Light Kennel. You have chosen a pure golden bundle of love and affection. Gracie and puppies, almost 3 weeks old here.

Breeder Sharee Avila offers lively and healthy Moyen, or medium-sized, Poodle puppies as family companions. Each puppy is microchipped and placed on a spay or neuter contract and has a one-year health guarantee. Toy Poodle and Maltese Perfection is an innovative breeder that offers hearty, colorful litters for anyone who prefers smaller breeds. McKenzie socializes her Toy Poodle puppies with children, adults, and other dogs to help them become accustomed to their potential new homes. The puppies also receive up-to-date veterinary evaluations to keep them in top condition. When her puppies are eight weeks old, they are placed on a spay or neuter contract; they have a one-year health guarantee. Asking questions about their experience is a great way to get insight on how to keep your dog happy and healthy. This screening helps them evaluate whether buyers are responsible enough to care for their puppies. Many of them raise their puppies inside of their homes; they feed them nutritious puppy food to help them grow and do not confine them in cramped kennels. Responsible breeders give new Poodle owners up-to-date medical records, including a vaccination and deworming history. They also provide health guarantees for genetic health issues, like vision loss and epilepsy , to ensure that the pup is healthy before going to its new home. Those prices are red flags for unethical commercial breeders or puppy mills. Poodle Puppies in North Carolina Poodles are one of the most popular and versatile dog breeds for families across North Carolina and the rest of the United States. Their playful and friendly nature makes them perfect for homes with kids, while their low-shedding coat makes them ideal for people with allergies. Poodle puppies come in several coat colors. Some breeders offer black Poodles, while others sell apricot and white Parti Poodles, for a unique pattern consisting of white and another color. Poodles require extensive grooming to prevent matting, so you can expect to get them groomed every six weeks. I also recommend brushing them every day to remove any traces of dander in their coat. Many breeders specialize in one or more Poodle sizes: Toy, Miniature, and Standard. The smaller sizes are ideal for apartment life. Regardless of the size you prefer, this high-maintenance breed needs plenty of exercise. Therefore, you should take them on an hour-long walk every day. Conclusion Although searching for trustworthy Poodle breeders in North Carolina can feel intimidating for first-time dog owners, you can find several of them across the state who love caring for their dogs as much as you do. If you are interested in owning a healthy, energetic Poodle, feel free to ask these breeders any questions about their pups and practices to see if they are the right pick for you. Similar Posts. All breeds of Labrador Retrievers are known for being kind and gentle — and this trait runs especially strong with the chocolate-colored sweeties. While these dogs are very friendly to strangers, they have even more affection to give to their beloved families. Your Chocolate Lab puppy or adult will be happiest spending time with their favorite people. If you have young children, a lab is a great fit, as this breed is usually quite tolerant of the horseplay of small children who are still learning how to interact with pets. Just like many people, Chocolate Labs enjoy both downtime — especially if it involves being pampered by their family — and active high-energy fun. We recommend daily exercise, which can include anything from fetch, to tag, or even frisbee games. The average Chocolate Lab lifespan is between 9 and 11 years. The most common Chocolate Lab health problem is hip dysplasia, which occurs more commonly in older and overweight dogs. This is just one of the reasons to make exercise a common part of your time with a Chocolate Lab puppy or fully grown adult. Another problem that occurs in overweight labs is joint and movement issues. The other most common Chocolate Lab health problems are: Progressive Retinal Atrophy Cataracts Elbow Dysplasia As is the case with any dog, when you bring home a Chocolate Labrador, make sure that you have a good vet to handle routing vaccinations and check-ups as well as emergency health problems. Learn more about the Keystone Puppies Health Guarantee! Chocolate Lab Coat Care In general, Chocolate Lab coat care is easy compared to many other dog breeds which require weekly or daily work. Labrador Retrievers all have double coats, which includes an under layer of short hairs and a slightly longer top layer. This coat is useful for repelling water and keeping them cool in warmer temperatures — and warm in cooler ones. Their coat is also noted to be slightly dry and oily. Chocolate Lab coat care is fairly minimal and considered low maintenance. The coat should be brushed with a firm bristle brush 2 — 3 times per month to minimize shedding. In addition to that, baths are needed fairly infrequently. What is more crucial is ensuring that their toenails are well cared for throughout the year. Meet Chocolate Lab Puppies for Sale. It quickly became clear that this new dog, at the time called the St. Then, in the 19th century, visiting Englishmen took note of these incredible dogs, brought them home to England, and soon perfected and standardized the breed—which had now been dubbed the Labrador Retriever. When they began as the St. While this is still true today, the recessive colors of yellow and chocolate have become more and more coveted by those seeking Labs as pets. Thanks to years of breeding efforts, those recessive colors are not as difficult to find as they once were. Chocolate Labrador Retriever Puppies for Sale Chocolate Labs are a favorite among those looking to add a member of the breed to their family. Coat shades can range from a warm, light brown to a deeper chocolate color. Both parents must carry and pass on the recessive chocolate color gene in order for a puppy to be born with this coat. Just like their black and yellow counterparts, chocolate Labrador Retrievers are known as doting and capable dogs. You can put them to work as hunting or service dogs, but they make excellent cuddle buddies as well. Their beautiful coats and breed stature make them great show dogs too. The Chocolate Labrador Retriever is not a distinct dog breed from other Labs, but it is a separate coat color variation that is specifically bred for. Similar to the other standard coat colors of Labrador Retrievers, Chocolate Labs are energetic dogs that get along well in a family setting. As a Retriever, they also make great hunting dogs and have also been known to fill other working dog roles including service dogs, guide dogs, search-and-rescue dogs, and more. They are even one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units. A point of interest is that all modern Chocolate Labrador Retrievers can be traced to three specific Black Labradors that lived during the s. Chocolate Labs are industrious little pups. They were bred for retrieval and will often sniff about for something to get into. They are also one of the most affectionate dog breeds and absolutely love being with their favorite humans. Properly socialized and well-trained, Labs are one of the kid-friendly dog breeds. They get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They are famously even-tempered and playful. This makes them fantastic dogs for a growing family, as they tend to be gentle and patient with little ones. They can have a high prey drive. They usually do well with small pets within the family that they have been raised with or socialized around, but likely will still have the urge to chase other animals while out and about. They also tend to be open and friendly with strangers. After all, strangers are just more people to give them attention and play with them. Chocolate Labrador Retrievers may be high-energy dogs, but they are also highly adaptable. They will thrive in homes with fenced yards where they can run freely. They can adapt well to apartment living as well as long as they get plenty of daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation. Their natural urge to dig and bark when they are bored or agitated can be quelled with a little training and exercise. Although they can handle some alone time, Labs love to be with their families and thrive on attention from them, so they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Chocolate Labs also have a water-resistant double coat that makes them well-suited for most habitable climates. As with most dogs, they are sensitive to heat. Although they can handle some cold and will likely love to play in the snow, they are not a snow dog breed and may need to bundle up while out on walks in areas with harsher winters. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Chocolate Labrador Retriever can include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, hereditary myopathy, and heart disease. There is also a condition with a genetic link called exercise-induced collapse EIC , which can occur in young adult Labradors. Carriers of this can be identified by DNA tests and it is advised that breeders test for this and avoid practices that would produce the disease. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents and about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large, deep-chested dog breed, Labrador Retrievers are at a higher risk for bloat. Bloat in dogs can be dangerous and can quickly become fatal if the stomach flips gastric torsion. Chocolate Labrador Retrievers are incredible companions and are also one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. Their energy can make them a handful at times, but their intelligence, adaptability, patience with people, and eagerness to please make them easy to train. Labs are one of the smartest dog breeds , so they pick up on things easily. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive reward and praise, a Chocolate Lab will do their best to respond as expected and will often exceed expectations. Chocolate Labs have a short, water-resistant coat that will shed year-round. Brushing a few times a week, daily brushing during seasonal shedding, and the occasional bath are all that are needed to keep a Lab coat healthy and looking great. They may need baths more often if they are avid swimmers, go on a lot of outdoor adventures, and get dirty a lot. Floppy ears tend to trap dirt, moisture, and debris. Proper dental care for dogs is imperative to help prevent painful dental diseases like gum disease or tooth decay later in life. You can also supplement your dental care efforts with vet-approved dental hygiene chews. Labrador Retrievers are one of the most active dog breeds and need a lot of daily activity to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough, but your Chocolate Labrador will likely be up for more activity if you are. One of the facts about Labrador Retrievers is that they have an extended puppyhood and tend to maintain that puppy-like energy and maturity until they are years old. Swimming can be a great lower-impact activity and Labrador Retrievers are one of the dog breeds that tend to love water. Between that, their water-resistant coat, and webbed toes, you may have trouble getting your Chocolate Lab out of the water. Fully-grown Chocolate Labrador Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Chocolate Labs generally live for years on average. Fourteen years later, the American Kennel Club did the same in .Featured Chocolate Labrador Retriever Article. When Considering a ROF Adoption Your donation at the time of an adoption is not a fee to buy a dog; it is a donation for the service we provide. It is not refundable. Your donation may be claimed as a tax deductible donation, and furthers our efforts to do as much as we can for as many as we can. We incur significant expenses in paying redemption fees, veterinary fees, transportation costs, boarding, and food costs and ask for an adoption donation for each dog. Your donation offsets a portion of those costs, but in no event exceeds the amount of care actually provided. All donations are applied to our rescue program to further the ROF mission. Rescuing an animal is a commitment. They are not perfect, and in most cases ROF will have limited information about the dog's history. ROF makes its placements based on our evaluation of the dogs, and decades of experience handling dogs and matching dogs to appropriate owners. In addition, we rely on the information provided by our prospective adopters; honesty is the best policy when discussing a potential rescue. Despite the number of dogs in need of homes, it may be that ROF does not have a rescue suitable for your particular situation. Children and other pets are but a few factors that we consider in placing a rescue. The determination to place or not to place any animal is made in ROF's sole discretion. We are advocates for the animals, and it is our goal to do what is best for the dog. Your new companion may have accidents, bark, jump, chew or require regular exercise. No dog is perfect and even a good natured, obedient and trained dog may create stress in the home initially. Please keep in mind that you may love your new pet on Day 1, but it may take some time for your new family member to feel secure in their new environment. Be respectful that you are a stranger to them and not do too much too soon. A crate is an excellent tool for training; we recommend continued crate training as part of a successful transition into your home. These are just some of the things ROF expects potential adopters to consider before making the decision to rescue. ROF offers a six week basic obedience class that runs consecutively year round. We work on basic handling skills and the "heel", "sit", "stay", "down", and "come" commands. ROF rescues can come to the classes as often as they like, free of charge. The class is open to all breeds and is not limited to ROF rescues. ROF is available to discuss specific questions or circumstances for the life of your dog. If for some reason, you can no longer honor your commitment to the dog. They cannot be sold, given away, placed on "craigslist", or brought to a shelter. ROF is a Forever Home for these animals and in the event they must be returned they must be returned to us. Please contact us and allow up to 72 hour for ROF to make arrangements for your dog's safe return. This year old spayed female was dumped in a valley shelter.
