Check with local veterinarians' offices, animal shelters, pet supply stores, and other area pet business for referrals to dog rescue organizations in your area. Contact one local dog rescue group for referral to other area groups. Some dog rescue groups work with all dogs, while others are breed-specific. Most rescues groups have established networks with other area rescues. The organization's website also provides links to rescue organizations. Although the majority of dogs looking for new homes through rescue groups are adults, sometimes rescue groups have puppies to place. Most German Shepherds looking for homes through rescue groups do not have papers. If registering your puppy is important, or if you intend to enter it into competitions, you will need its title papers and health records, so a rescued dog may not be right for you. Many dog rescues will require a thorough application process in order to assure that you will be a good fit for the dog. Be prepared to disclose your address and whether you own your home, as well as your employment status and your philosophy when it comes to raising a dog. You will want to make sure that the dog's temperament works well with you and your family. Ask whether you can get the dog checked out by your veterinarian. You will want your vet to check the dog's general health and for serious conditions, such as heart murmurs. Be sure to ask about the dog's health while the rescue has had it and if it is up to date on shots and healthcare. A good rescue should actually offer this information upfront. Get a history of the dog's healthcare up to that point. Has it had its first vaccination, had heart worm treatment, and parasite control? These should have all been done before the age when a puppy is adoptable. While many rescue organizations cannot tell you much about the dogs they place, because the dogs have been rescued off the street or they have been given up anonymously, sometimes they have a bit of information. Get all the information you can about the dog's past so that you can assess their general background and health. Dog rescue organizations are usually run on a shoe-string budget. While they depend mostly on volunteers, they do need funds to transport and care for dogs. Your adoption fee will most likely help to pay for the rescue of other dogs in the future. The Poodle The Poodle is one of the oldest breeds of dogs ever recognized and has been around since ancient times, originally in Germany but then being perfected in France. Others claim that there are some other breeds mixed in such as Asian herding dogs and other breeds that ran wild during that time. The smaller versions of the Poodle were created in the s by breeding small Poodles with each other. At the time, the Poodle was mainly used for hunting ducks and truffles but became popular as circus dogs and in shows. The AKC officially recognized them in where they are now the 7th most popular breed of dog. Some believe the breed is a mix of Spaniels, Sheepdogs, and Mastiffs while others claim they are a blend of the Griffon and Beauceron. In those days, they were bred only for function so the appearance of the Bouvier des Flanders varied quite a bit. At first, they were called the Toucheur de Boeuf, which means cattle dog, Koehond, which means cow dog, or Vuilbaard, which means dirty beard. The name they have now, Bouvier, means cowherd or oxherd. A veterinarian named Adolphe Reul was a proud breeder who made the Bouvier des Flanders popular during those days even though there was no standard until .In , the American Kennel Club recognized the breed and it is now the 83rd most popular breed in America. Flandoodle The Flandoodle is a large dog that stands between 22 and 28 inches tall and weighs about 65 to 95 pounds. The Flandoodle can be any color but is usually black, gray or brindle. They may be lean or stocky, with well-muscled long legs, a large head, and a furry face with a beard. The long tail is usually docked and their furry ears are pendulous. They do not shed much but it is important to bathe them if they get dirty, using mild shampoo and conditioner specially recommended for Poodles. Be sure to clean their ears once a week and watch for redness and ear mites. In addition, you should brush their teeth several times a week to prevent dental problems. They make special toothbrushes and toothpaste specially for dogs that you should use. They enjoy being part of the family activities and like to play with other animals but may be inclined to hunt smaller animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. They should also be supervised around children younger than five years old. Although they are intelligent and learn quickly, they may be a bit stubborn during training so you have to have patience and use positive reinforcement rather than physical punishment. They can get lonely if left home alone for a long time so they need to have plenty to keep them busy while you are not home. Activity Requirements: Keep in mind that these are all suggestions. If your dog is happy, healthy and content, that is what is important, and just like people, every dog is different and unique. The Flandoodle loves activity and needs some type of exercise daily. They love to hunt and would appreciate a trip to the park daily to chase squirrels and rabbits if you do not have a fenced in yard to play in. In addition, having them run alongside you while you jog or bike can also be a beneficial choice for you both. This breed is also good at agility training, Frisbee, fetch, flyball, and swimming. Both the Bouvier des Flandres and the Poodle are considered to be hypoallergenic dogs. You should always meet a potential new dog before bringing them home as sometimes, even if a dog is deemed to be hypoallergenic, they could still cause some problems. The Flandoodle is a nice mix of popularity and a lesser-known breed. These are genuinely lovely dogs that want to be a part of all that goes on in your household. You can bet that your Flandoodle will be following you around and in the middle of any family conversations or game nights. The Flandoodle is a loyal animal that wants to please and take care of its people. Your Flandoodle also desires and seeks attention. This is not a dog that is going to be overly independent and do its own thing. The Flandoodle will want to be the center of attention at all times. The Flandoodle is not a brilliant dog, but they are not unintelligent either. The Flandoodle has a high enough intelligence level to be trained; it will just be a bit of a long process. Are These Dogs Good for Families? The first point of concern is the separation anxiety that Flandoodles are prone to. If you are a busy young family and the Flandoodle will be left alone most of the day, you may see some separation anxiety issues start to arise. Flandoodles thrive when they are around people. If left alone for extended periods, they will become withdrawn or even act out because they are upset. The issue with their separation anxiety is actually what makes them an excellent fit for a family with lots of people. If people are coming and going all day and the Flandoodle is not left alone for extended periods, it will be ideal for this breed. When it comes to a family dog, another point of concern is the time needed to care for the animal. In busy families with young kids, the dog and their exercise and grooming needs can sometimes end up at the bottom of the list. If your family is already busier than you could ever imagine, you may want to consider a lower maintenance dog. The Flandoodle will need your attention for several hours each day, both for exercise and grooming. However, this does not always need to be undivided attention. It is quite easy to figure out a game in the yard that keeps both the kids and the dog entertained. However, this dog will need some of your time and care. As long as those conditions can be met, the Flandoodle is an excellent addition to any family. You should have no problems with aggressive behavior when it comes to other large pets. If you have another dog, introduce your Flandoodle at a young age and teach them how to get along. The earlier you socialize the Flandoodle, the easier it will be when it comes to getting along with other dogs. The only thing that you need to watch out for in the case of the Flandoodle are small pets. If you should have a smaller animal in the house, something like a guinea pig or similar, there is a chance that your Flandoodle will try and go after it. The Flandoolde has hunting skills in its genetics, and it is hard for them to give this up completely. You will likely notice if you let your Flandoodle lose in the yard, they will chase squirrels and rabbits, often unsuccessfully. If you are someone who is not home enough to spend time with and run your Flandoodle, this is not the right breed for you. Ideally, a Flandoodle should be walked twice a day. Personality and Temperament The Flandoodle is one of the friendliest dog breeds out there. They love to socialize and will get along well with just about anyone and anything with a little bit of socialization. These are loyal dogs that are guaranteed to love you no matter what. Flandoodles are rather mild-mannered and gentle, making them great for families with children. They love to goof around and perform silly antics to make their families happy, and with a Flandoodle you are guaranteed to always have a happy household. They tend to get a little too attached, which means some anxiety issues may develop. Early socialization is incredibly important for this reason. To get a good idea of the kind of temperament your pup will grow into, spend some time around the parent dogs. The personalities of the parents are usually fairly good indicators of the kind of personality your dog will grow up to have. Flandoodle Size On average, the Flandoodle will grow up to be around 22 to 28 inches tall and weigh anywhere between 55 to 85 pounds. Flandoodle Health On average, the Flandoodle enjoys good health. However, the best guarantee of a healthy dog is healthy parents. For this reason, you should take care not to buy from breeders who mate dogs under the age of two since that is when most genetic illnesses surface. Be sure to check the health clearance certificates of both dogs when getting your puppy. Schedule regular visits to the vet to make sure any issues are caught and nipped in the bud. Some issues that your pup may be predisposed to include eye problems, heart problems, patellar luxation, and bloat. Flandoodle Care and Training These dogs are very active and so need quite a bit of daily exercise. It is best not to get a Flandoodle if you cannot commit to getting them a good amount of daily exercise. You Flandoodle will love to go on walks and jobs, not to mention running after a frisbee or playing a fun game of fetch. They need regular mental and physical stimulation, or else they may become unhealthy and destructive. Coat Color, Types, Shedding Flandoodles usually have coats that can be classified as rough. They are usually shaggy or curly, and in general, are low-shedding. Flandoodle Grooming When it comes to grooming, this dog is not too high-maintenance. Clip their coats in the summer months to keep them cool, and make sure to have their nails trimmed if they do not wear away naturally. A post shared by Jory Lynn Anderson jorythelatterdaysaint Because the Bouvier des Flandres and the Poodle are large breed non-shedding dogs, the Flandoodle also inherits the same traits. The Bouvier des Flandres was first spotted in Belgium in the s, where it was used to herd cattle and pull carts. By , the American Kennel Club recognized the breed, and it is now the 83rd most popular breed in America. On the other hand, the Poodle has been around since ancient times. The tiny Poodles were created in the s and were mainly used for hunting ducks. Later, they became famous as show and circus dogs. As one of the oldest dog breeds, it was acknowledged by the AKC in and became the 7th most popular dog breed. The mix between the two resulted in the Flandoddles, which are now popular pets among dog lovers. These dogs are perfect for people with allergies because they come from parents who are hypoallergenic. These lovely dogs enjoy being part of the family and will engage in all household activities. This dog breed is a loyal animal and likes to stick around family members and follow you around as you do your daily duties. Once you bring this dog home, expect a lot of entertainment. They are very playful and always ready for an adventure. To prevent your dog from becoming bored and engaging in destructive behaviors, provide your dog with mental and physical stimulation. These dogs are highly intelligent, making it easier to train them. Although they learn quickly, they might be stubborn during training, which means you must have patience. You can also make the process easier by using positive reinforcement instead of yelling or punishment. It might take some time, but they become receptive to commands and instructions in the long run. However, the owners need to supervise them if they have smaller children below five years. Before you bring the dog home, consider that this dog breed has separation anxiety. Therefore, you should ensure that your dog interacts with a lot of people throughout the day and is not left alone. Separation anxiety can cause your dog to act out and become upset. It would be best to consider your availability and the time needed to care for the dog. The Flandoodle is a higher maintenance dog, especially with grooming and exercise needs. Therefore, a busy and absent family will not be ideal. However, if you have a yard, you can easily incorporate games and activities that the children can play together with the dog. Once you meet all these needs, you can comfortably raise and keep a Flandoodle. Flandoodles like to play with other animals but may be inclined to hunt smaller animals like rabbits, squirrels, birds, and guinea pigs. These dog breeds love a good chase; therefore, they will go after smaller animals. Their high prey drive and hunting skills are genetically inherited; hence, it will be challenging to stop the dog from chasing the smaller pets. Flandoodles will get along much better with fellow dogs and give you less to worry about. When well-socialized, your canine friend will have no problem co-existing with another dog. These animals require a little bit more maintenance. You need to take care of the food, grooming, exercise needs, training, and health issues. Each day, you can feed the dog cups of dry dog food. These portions can be divided into multiple servings to ensure your pup is well-fed throughout the day. When choosing the food, stick to high-quality brands of dog food. A good brand has wholesome ingredients and a balance of nutrients, with no chemicals and fillers. On top of this dry food, you can feed your pup canned food but in the right portions to prevent your dog from overeating and obesity. The amount of food also differs according to age, size, and health condition. As you budget for your dog, include food costs because dog food is not cheap. So, before purchasing or adopting one of these for your family, ensure that you have the time and energy to allow your dog to get plenty of exercises daily. These dogs love to run, chase, and play. If you are a hunter, these dogs will provide companionship because they still maintain some of their hunting skills which they use to catch small animals. Once you adopt a Flandoodle, you should take them for a walk twice a day. You should have several puzzle toys and games to stimulate their minds and keep them physically active in the house. The dog can run around and play safely for families with a yard as long as there are no smaller pets. Due to the high exercise needs, this dog is not ideal for small apartment living. They require a large space to burn off all the energy and thrive properly. Flandoodles need to burn off all the energy lest they become mischievous. However, if you ignore this, your pet will pile up too much energy and become troublesome to manage or start barking excessively, chewing on things, and digging. Exercise with the kids is ideal for keeping the dog physically stimulated and preventing separation anxiety. If you are never home, have someone run around with your dog or take it for a walk to keep it happy. These dogs are intelligent, therefore learn quickly, but can be challenging to train. However, the trainability level is averagely the same as other dogs. Before they pick up on behaviors, it will take several tries and failed attempts; therefore, be prepared for consistency. When you are consistent, your pet will become more attentive. To keep them engaged throughout, ensure you offer positive reinforcements and rewards. For the training to be much easier, start the training when your Flandoodle is a young puppy. The earlier you start, the better the results. Involve all your family members and have the same commands to make it easier for the dog to keep up. This depends on the type of coat inherited from the parent breeds. Despite being a low-shedder , this dog still has grooming requirements. The fur coat needs to be brushed once per day to keep it mat-free and to remove tangles. If you ignore this daily habit, you might have to spend money on a professional. For pups with more of a Poodle coat, you can take them to a professional groomer to have the fur coat groomed and trimmed. Because a Flandoodle is a Poodle descendant, they can be prone to ear infections and other ear-related issues. By keeping the ears clean, you can easily avoid these infections. In addition, you need to cut the nails to keep them short. You should start all these grooming practices with your Flandoodle when they are still young. However, some dogs may not always inherit these medical problems. Overall, these dog breeds are very healthy dogs but have a shorter lifespan of years on average. Some of the health conditions are minor, whereas some are serious. Serious Conditions These are some of the severe medical problems your dog can go through. Hip Dysplasia This is a common medical problem for most dogs. Flandoodles also experience this joint problem which appears in either the elbow or the hip. If your pup has hip dysplasia, it will experience lameness in the hind legs. For elbow dysplasia, the lameness will be in the front legs. Cancer Your dog might have cancer which might not exhibit until you go for a scheduled vet visit. Heart Problems Flandoodles develop heart problems that exhibit themselves in various ways. Your pup might have heart disease or even congestive heart failure. Immediately you notice any issues, you should alert your vet to start treatment. Bloating This is a serious condition that can be fatal if it is not handled promptly. This additional air will cause the stomach to expand, transferring the pressure to other body organs. If untreated, this pressure can interfere with blood circulation and organ function. Your Flandoodle will get this disease when there is a benign tumor on the pituitary gland. Minor Conditions Your pup might experience some minor conditions that, if left untreated, might become severe. Here are some of them. Eye Problems Flandoodles can have various eye problems. These can range from cataracts, eye infection, retinal atrophy that can eventually lead to blindness. Skin Conditions Your pup might also get some skin conditions if they are prone to allergies. Once this allergy starts, your dog might itch a lot or have a skin rash. Your vet can treat this problem by prescribing allergy medication. Male vs. Female Male and Female Flandoodles like alike and have similar personalities. However, the female is slightly smaller than its counterpart. For dog lovers that want a large dog but slightly shorter, a female Flandoodle is an excellent choice. Therefore, if you have dog allergies, these dog breeds might be the best choice for you. They are hypoallergenic and will be more comfortable for you. However, even hypoallergenic breeds can spark allergies among highly sensitive individuals. You can either visit a friend with such a dog or spend some time with one from the breeders. According to the American Kennel Club, these two breeds rank very highly. The Poodle is the 7th most popular dog breed in the United States, whereas the Bouvier des Flandres is the 83rd most popular. The Flandoodle is a crossbreed of these famous dogs. Summary Flandoodles are excellent family pets. They are friendly, affectionate, playful, and very energetic. If you have a family, this dog will become instantly loyal and protective. Because of this, puppy training classes or a professional trainer are recommended. The Flandoodle will have a rough coat that ranges from shaggy to the classic Poodle curls. Their coat may not shed a lot, or at all, but they will require some effort on grooming. Bathing is on an as-needed basis and professional grooming is recommended every few months at least, if not more often. But, you will still need to do some care and maintenance between appointments. Nail trims once or twice monthly help keep nails from growing too long. Weekly ear checks with cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Daily dental care like brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste in addition to cleanings at the vet when needed can help prevent dental diseases later in life. Flandoodles are high-energy dogs, and they need an active owner who can give them enough daily exercise. Multiple daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are usually enough. Our references include not only folks that have purchased chihuahua puppies from us, but also our Veterinary and County Licensing info. Checking references is an important part of your homework on any breeder you are considering purchasing a French Bulldog from! After you've looked over our website, give us a call and let us help you with your quest to find the perfect Seattle, Washington French Bulldog companion. We are located in Drain, Oregon. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Here at Frenchie Kisses Kennel you will not find "a breeder. We maintain a small Hobby program and breed for quality, rather than quantity. This ensures that you get a puppy that is healthy, beautiful, and has a great temperament. It is very convenient being close to Portland, Oregon because it makes for a nice day trip for our adoptive families in the Portland area to visit their puppy regularly as it grows. Since My son and Daughter In Law work at home we are able to spend time both indoors and outdoors with all of the animals. However, French Bulldogs are more suited for indoor living as opposed to outdoors. We do like to bring them out when the weather is moderate. At Frenchie Kisses Kennel we keep a close watch on the dogs as we wander about and if they seem a bit tired we simply return them to our air conditioned or heated in the winter home. Luckily the weather here in Washington State does not have horrible extremes so air conditioning and a good wood stove keeps their life very comfortable. French Bulldogs overheat easily because of their overly large chest and compacted air way, along with their insistence on being active. Their bulk and being Brachycephalic makes it impossible for them to regulate their temperature efficiently. In addition, Frenchies are top heavy and therefore have a difficult time swimming. We are very cautious when exercising them during hot or humid weather, and at times must insist they take a break. Though they tend to love the water, they must not be left alone in water as they may not be able to get out after exhausting themselves trying to swim. French Bulldogs are known as non swimmers. That's not to say that they are dogs of little brain. It's more like their "can do," can't keep up with their "want to. We love that the dogs want to be with us, very close by when we are walking around on the property. Washington is Cougar country and we would not want them to wander far so we do keep a close watch on them when we have them out. They all tend to get along with the cats and we are working hard to convince them that all animals are our friends. Since the Frenchies are so rambunctious it is hard to convince all of our pets that they are sweet, friendly dogs. I have my mind set that all my pets are going to get along and I am hoping that my will is stronger than a Bulldog! The puppies are exposed to the cats at a young age to instill a respect for other animals. Our cats are everywhere we now have five the puppies can have access to. We also have volunteer feral cats, that we are pretty sure come from a catch and release program in our area as they just appear with ears notched and previously spayed or neutered. The puppies only meet one of them He has become an outside pet only does not like to be confined kitty and occasionally comes to the door to see what is going on. He is friendly with the dogs and puppies. Three of our cats are both indoors and outdoors so the puppies learn early on that cats are their friends. We now have three Chickens that wander the property during the day. We hope to also use them to condition the puppies to being comfortable with birds. This makes for very sweet gentle puppies as they mature. We are also able to care for them individually if they become sick and give them excellent medical attention. We have a wonderful vet who has taught us how to do much of the necessary medical care at home since we are 45 minutes from any Veterinarian. Sometimes without the training he has provided us we would lose puppies due to no access to immediate care. We can and do give mouth to mouth resuscitation if needed. We will do anything necessary to save a puppy or dog. We love them for the wonderful little family additions that they are. We now offer training packages for our puppies: Child Tolerance. Welcoming a new puppy into your home is an exciting time filled with joy, cuddles, and a few inevitable challenges. One of the most common questions new puppy owners ask is, "When can puppies go outside? With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. We have answers. Golf, collectively, has adjusted. Now, before you cat people get to dismissing, look around. This is a natural move! Golf as a sport has learned, out of necessity, that it needs to be more welcoming, less private, more environmentally friendly, etc. Now, back to dogs. Below are a handful of keys to help you do it yourself. Is your dog a morning caddie, or an evening caddie? Unfortunately, not everyone is a dog person. Morning golf is going to be best for singles, but likely the sloppiest with dew on the turf. Evening golf could find you stuck behind a foursome, but by then your pup might not have such frolicking energy. You might have to try both. Permission might be easier than you think This may seem obvious, but permission is the main reason this article exists. But are they anti-dog? Pick up the phone and find out. Raise the stakes! Promise to stay out of the way. Remind them that St. Andrews has dogs walking on it from time to time. Whatever it takes. Leash up! The most important item in your golf bag is no longer the putter or the driver or whatever club you hit best. The leash is your saving grace and can save you a lot of headaches. It is as simple as tying the opposite end of the leash up to your golf bag. Where the bag goes, the dog goes. Keeping your pup attached to your bag is the simplest way to demonstrate control, both to your dog and the superintendent. If your dog weighs lbs. But generally, you can control for any issues simply by keeping your dog tied up to your bag. By the time you reach hole no. Probably not. Is your dog interested in golf? If your dog has no interest in your swing, your shots, etc. That makes things easy. Suddenly, hitting greens is not such a good thing. Jersey tore after a chip shot of mine, straight through the green, leaving some marks in her path. Lesson learned! Jersey shares a birthday with Tiger Woods, but I doubt she knows that. The tennis ball is your lifeline Or the frisbee, or the sling toy, whatever. Walk before you run, literally. Ten minutes of golf course fetch is going to last just one hole. So the more water you can bring, the better, especially during summer months. Reuse them easily. I can only assume that Country Time engineers have perfected their concoction containers with pet-lovers in mind. These things stack nicely on top of each other and tuck away easily into any pocket. Just be sure to pack multiple. Jersey slurped her way through three cartons in the first five holes. So do what all dog owners do and entice them with treats. For Jersey, it was Cheerios. I loved them, too, as she was much better at staying off the green when she knew that cereal was at stake. Doggy waste is different There is nothing good about the smell of a golf course waste bin filled with mostly-empty beer cans, tobacco tins, and whatever is left of that club sandwich. Bring another one of those old lemonade mix cartons and keep it empty. Get to it! When I arrived on a Wednesday afternoon, a pug had just teed off on the 1st, strolling up the fairway, and was out of sight, out of mind in a matter of minutes. Over on the driving range, a much older golden retriever was sprawled out next to her owner as he worked on his game. I felt like I had died and gone to Golf Heaven, where dogs roam free. Really, it was just Goat Hill, a course where dogs are very welcome, any day of the week. They had long been groomed to handle this gorgeous, open and green play area. So, start your dog young! Help them get comfortable with that little white ball. Teach them that sand at the beach is different than sand in a bunker. Make them realize that, until you pull out the tennis ball, near the bag is the place to be. Soon enough, Golf With Your Dog might be the only golf you want to play. There is one exception.I thought I had experienced it all in golf until my buddy Ben asked if he could bring his new dog, Astrid, to my foursome's weekly twilight nine adventures. Having never played golf with a pooch, I was both excited and anxious about the novelty of it all. I texted Ben that it might not be the best idea to bring an undisciplined, excitable young dog onto the course without any advanced training but added that we'd make it work. I'm glad we did. Bringing a dog along for a round invites a more casual vibe. Whenever Ben needed to hit a shot, we took turns holding the leash. Astrid was great, despite the temptations of the deer, ground squirrels and rabbits that come out at dusk. She didn't bark much and was good enough that we let her off the leash a couple times for a healthy sprint or two. I highly recommend giving doggy golf a try, as long as your course is open to the idea. Make sure you check first. That same etiquette applies to pace of play, playing music, conversations, etc. Ben took Astrid out a couple days later for another round. He happily texted he joined up with "a nice dog loving 2-some". Golfers are generally friendly people, so it makes perfect sense to integrate man's best friend into the game, too. Have you ever taken a dog on the course or played with someone who has? Tell us about the experience in the comments below. Keep up with pace of play Dog or no dog, this should be always be your no. If bringing a dog doesn't slow up your round, then I say go for it. I don't want to turn your golf course into a defacto dog park, but walking in wonderful natural surroundings is certainly healthy for both humans and canines. Courtesy photo The hardest part of the round was allowing Ben to focus on playing golf without too much interference from Astrid. Somebody always had to be nearby to hold the leash. I almost made a major blunder by attaching the leash to a ball washer as I went to putt, not realizing the post wasn't cemented into the ground. Luckily I caught it before Astrid tipped it over, which could have set her off. When we did get a little too bold with Astrid off the leash, we did invite a little chaos. She pounced on a couple of putts, grabbing the ball in her mouth. Oh well. Lesson learned. Either Ben trains her not to attack golf balls or he keeps her on the leash at all times. No barking in the backswing Astrid is proof that training isn't necessary to be a "golf dog". However, it would be wise to make sure your dog has the right temperament for the course - Do you have a barker, a puller or a dog that isn't good with strangers? Barkers are probably best left at home. We noticed Astrid would flinch when too close to the loud strike of a good shot. Former GolfPass Managing Editor Brandon Tucker tells a funny story how his dog - leashed to a pushcart - took off scared after a loud noise, leaving a trail of scattered clubs. Also be sure to bring enough water and treats to keep your pet happy, hydrated and not hangry. Play at an off-peak time Our doggy round succeeded for two reasons: A, we played at an off-peak time when the course wasn't crowded and B, nobody in our foursome was worried about score or how many holes we played. To us, twilight rounds are just a way to decompress in the middle of the week for some fresh air, fellowship and fun, all glued together by a few swings. Adding a dog into the mix spiced things up nicely. I'm sure it will happen again. Daisy and Brock are a beautiful mother and son pair who love to snuggle together and cuddle. They are both sweet, happy, and friendly. They adore getting attention from anyone they meet during their walks and easily draw people in with their sunny personalities and soft silky coats. They have settled into an easy routine in their foster home and relish their walks every day and visits to the dog park. During their walks Brock clocks roughly twice the mileage of foster mom and Daisy with his side-to-side walking style. Neither is true! These pups love to live it up at the dog park where they show off their speed as Brock sprints and dives after his Kong frisbee, often grabbing it taco style, while Daisy relishes fetching an orange Chuck-It ball before eventually resting to chew on it. Brock is also a master at tug-of-war who has learned to drop it sometimes after repeated requests so it can be thrown again. Brock is extra special because he was born without a tail, which causes him to be incontinent. Inside the house he wears diapers and a belly band, and his incontinence is easily managed. When coming inside from a walk, Brock waits patiently for his diaper to be put on. Daisy and Brock took time to smell the roses and ponder life. While happy to be in a foster home, they would love to find their forever home. Please open your mind and your heart to considering adopting these two gorgeous pups. You will never regret your decision. Adopting a Rescued Lab Complete our online adoption application below. DLRR currently serves throughout the state of Arizona. We may have limited resources in rural parts of Arizona, so contact us to see if we serve your area. We do not adopt dogs to people outside Arizona. DLRR does its best to match the right dog with the right family by finding out as much as possible about the potential adoptive family before placing a dog. If you are interested in knowing what dogs we have available, please visit Our Dogs page! This does not account for the cost of medical care provided to our dogs with complex medical issues. All dogs placed by DLRR will be spayed or neutered. Several ailments, including some types of cancer, are prevented by spaying or neutering. Most of the dogs we intake are young adults who have outgrown their puppy cuteness and are quite active. The Dog-a-Log shows all our dogs available for adoption. Not all available dogs are in foster care, so information about them may be limited. The foster knows the most about the dog and will be able to answer any questions you might have, as well as to arrange a meeting with the dog and your family. Our fosters will advise if you are a match for their Lab. If the foster lets you know you are a match, you have 24 hours to call the foster back with your decision. The Lab cannot be shown to another family during this hour period. Please keep in mind, rescuing a Lab is a commitment, not a convenience, and most rescued dogs need extra love and patience to feel secure in their new environment and may require some time and training to become their best! Steps to Adopting a Dog: Make sure a Lab is for you. If you have any questions, please contact us. Talk it over with everyone in your household, and make sure that everyone feels the same way about adopting a rescue dog. Think about your schedule and decide when and if you will have time to spend with your dog. Who will be responsible for taking care of the dog? Finally, take a look at your home. Where will the dog sleep? Where will the dog eat? Fill out our Adoption Application. Complete our online adoption application. We reserve the right to refuse any application for any reason. A DLRR representative will contact you for a home visit. One of our volunteers will contact you to arrange to visit your home. Cases in which a Virtual Home Visit is not possible will be put on hold and applicants will be notified of the delay. The volunteer will virtually visit your home to meet your family and listen to your needs. This helps to determine whether the home is a suitable environment for a Labrador Retriever and help us find the Lab best suited for your family. The Dog-a-Log showcases our adoptable dogs and is emailed twice weekly to approved adopters. Your whole family will meet the dog that may be right for you. We require that all members of the family are present to make sure everyone agrees on the perfect match. If you do not feel a dog is the right dog for you, or if the foster family feels this particular dog may not be the right fit for your family, we will begin the process again to find the perfect dog for your family. Wait 24 hours. Once you have decided on your perfect dog, you must wait at least 24 hours before taking your new Lab home. This is designed to give you time to fully consider your decision. Take your new family member home. You will then pay DLRR your adoption fee. We will provide support to you after the adoption to make sure that your new friend becomes an integral part of your family. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. If you want a particular coat pattern, color, or generation, it will cost a lot more, particularly if you want something rare. Not to mention you have to care for your puppy with toys, grooming, and vet visits. The maintenance of a Goldendoodle puppy should be considered when buying a dog. Sadly, many Goldendoodles end up in humane societies and dog rescues because of bad owners. With that in mind, consider adopting an older dog from a rescue. The only drawback is that you may need to take some time to socialize and help your dog get over past bad experiences. Some breeders also offer older retired breeding dogs to adopt, so ask around to see if an older dog is right for you. How Long It Takes To Get a Puppy Depending on where you go to get your puppy, it can take anywhere from three months to over a year to get your dog. That said, it all depends on where you get your dog. PuppySpot usually has puppies available from breeders around the nation, including older adoptees. Some dogs are bred too early and too often in deplorable conditions to produce as many puppies as possible, regardless of their health. Mini Goldendoodles should weigh 25 to 35 pounds, making them the perfect companions for those who want a smaller, more manageable dog. There are several types of Mini Goldendoodles , so pick carefully. So buy only from reputable breeders. Puppy mills often undercut the prices of reputable breeders to try and tempt buyers. Reputable breeders will have certifications from organizations and do health testing on both the parents and the puppies to ensure no genetic or health problems in the dogs. Breeders will also breed their dogs responsibly, litters about a year apart, and retire the dams after two or three litters. Bringing Your Pup Home Transitioning to their forever home is challenging for every puppy. It often consists of crying and whining where the puppy misses their parents, and it can be heartbreaking for owners to see their pups so sad. Puppy packs often have a pack of food the puppy is used to, so you can slowly transition to the food you want to give the puppy. It provides the puppy with comfort during this challenging period. Otherwise, ensure your home and the people living in it are correctly outfitted for the new puppy, from potty training aids to doggy beds, crates, and more. The puppies should be exposed to a wide variety of sounds, experiences, people and places so they can adjust to their new homes and adult life. Nevertheless, they should start exposing them to sounds like household appliances, provide mental stimulation with toys and games and also encourage playtime and interactions with their littermates and family. The most common ones are: Lack of registration: If a Mini Goldendoodle breeder cannot provide registration papers or other relevant documentation, it may be a sign that they are not operating a reputable breeding program. Overbreeding: Think twice about purchasing from a Mini Goldendoodle breeder who always has puppies available or offers an excessive amount of dog breeds. This may suggest that the breeder is overly focused on profit instead of the health and wellbeing of their puppies. Lack of health checks: A reputable Mini Goldendoodle breeder will conduct health clearances on their breeding dogs to ensure they are free of genetic health issues that could be passed on. If a breeder cannot provide documentation of these health checks, it may be a sign that they are not prioritizing health.

Because black is the dominant color gene for these dogs, they are more common than yellow, silver and chocolate labs. We offer an impressive selection of purebred chocolate labrador puppies for sale. Our love for dogs have been growing for over 30 years, with never having just one. Labrador Litters. Both parents have to have a matching gene to produce any color. The gene that produces the dilute colors dd is the gene that is the cause of much controversy. The Labrador Retriever Club does not like or recognize any dilute color however the AKC does recognize the dilutes in their base colors. The Labrador Retriever Clubs most recent complaint is Buyer Beware dilute breeders are charging exorbitant prices for a cross bred, designer dog. Exorbitant prices? Have you seen what members of the Labrador Retriever Club charge for their dogs? Here is a simple fact, at some point in time between and the dilute gene was introduced into the Labrador gene pool. Before or possibly after the Labrador Stud Book was closed this gene was introduced. This gene has been working in the Labrador for 60 or possibly as long as years. Before the Stud books were closed several dogs were used including some with the dilute gene to add desired traits to the Labrador Breed. Point is their has not been any recent crossings by reputable breeders for sure so we are talking 20 generations or more of pure breeding of Labradors so if it looks like a Labrador, swims like a Labrador and acts like a Labrador.
