Late in Holley weaned herself from working full time with our Standard Poodles because she was offered a wonderful opportunity to go back to her first love of training and showing American Saddlebreds. She works with an amazing woman who has shown and trained Saddlebreds for years. My mom is very thankful to Mary Ann for giving Holley the chance to do what she loves best and is such a great mentor and friend to Holley. Holley helps train and works the horses and has a great riding lesson program for children. Now I have been able to relinquish those responsibilities to April and my Aunt Beth. Blake is now a wonderful stay at home dad to our son born July 28, .She started out doing the daily poop scooping, cleaning, feeding and watering. She gave vaccines and medications. The list was endless. No one can deal with all of us with a smile every day. Her winning smile and her bubbly personality adds to the comradery among our team. Darlene now helps me manage the kennel and is the official full time groomer of all our Family Affair Standard Poodles. Our Standard Poodle puppies get their first face and tail haircut, ear cleaning and nail cutting from Darlene. Each of our adult Standard Poodles get groomed every 8 to 10 weeks, so the grooming is a never-ending cycle. Then moms and puppies are let out into their yards and exercise runs to potty and play all day. We are so blessed to have Darlene. She is pictured below with her beloved Raven. Although her first canine love is her Miniature Dachshunds, she is as dedicated to our Standard Poodle Ladies and Gentlemen and our Standard Poodle puppies as we are. When she wanted to join our team again at the age of 25, we were very pleased. We quickly realized she was also a great asset in the office and computer department as well. In just a few months, she started full time and then took over a lot of the task Darlene had been responsible for over the years. Erica begins her day with a quick hands-on inspection of all the babies. She gives medication, routine wormers and vaccines. Erica weighs and individually identifies each puppy with different colors of fingernail polish the day they are born. For three weeks all our Standard Poodle puppies are weighed every day. All of that attention to babies must have affected her, because in early , Erica gave birth to a beautiful baby girl that looks like a china doll. Her name is Kaelyn. We are looking forward to working with Erica for many years to come and watching Kaelyn grow up. They might be old and out of shape…. .Most, though not all, of our sires dads and dams moms are born and raised right here at Arrowhead Acres farm. Placing our adults and special needs, rather it be a puppy or adult for adoption, is something we take very seriously, because we want them to go from us straight to their forever homes and not have to be uprooted again and again in their lifetime. In most cases these adults and special needs adjust very easily from the farm to your couch! We will be available to help you and your new companion to adjust so that you both have a long, loving relationship. All of our ADOPTEES are accustomed to a doggy door for pottying purposes, and a doggy door would help them to adjust to their new home, but is not a requirement. It may require a little time and energy to make sure they understand not to potty in your home. All of our adults are crate trained and our puppies are well on their way. The main purpose of the wire crate is to allow your ADOPTEE to feel part of the family and become familiar with the family and activities while still feeling secure. In addition, we recommend the type of plastic crate that is used for shipping on airlines for nighttime, with good padding in it. This crate is enclosed and gives the dog a warm, draft free, soft, secure den like place to sleep. The majority of our adults do well on a leash. Our routine protocol for retiring all of our adult sires and dams is to do so between the ages of six and seven years. A pre-op physical and blood work are done and they are spayed or neutered. The teeth are also cleaned at this time. If needed, a Rabies vaccine is also given at this time. The cost depends on the amount of dental work, the gender and other medical procedures performed. Occasionally, for various reasons, we will have a young healthy, well socialized adult years old to retire. These are usually young adults that have simply accomplished what we needed in our breeding program and can be retired early. On other occasions we may have a male that has no interest in breeding or a female that is just not happy being a mom. Occasionally there may be a health issue or defect that does not make them a good candidate for a breeding program, but would have little or no effect on them as a family pet. For example, you should not need a routine visit to the vet for a minimum of six months and in most cases, a year. They are already crate and leash trained for the most part. They are beyond the chewing puppy stage. They are more valuable as far as training time and medical expenses than a puppy. They also will have all age appropriate vaccines, be de-wormed and freshly groomed. For our younger adults with no health or temperament issues we require a deposit of half the adoption fee as a commitment fee. You will pay with a debit or credit card over the phone. The males are released late the same afternoon. If the adoptee is being shipped we will wait s2 weeks after surgery, when the stitches are removed, to ship. This is accomplished by placing them back on our website and putting suitable and qualified new owners directly in touch with you. In this case the refund will also go directly to you. Parti Standard Poodles - If you love spots, you may want a parti poodle. A parti poodle is a poodle of white and another color. There are several distinct patterns: the tuxedo, spotted, and abstract all refer to a poodle that is white and another color. That color can be black, brown, red, apricot, creme, silver, blue, grey, cafe-au-lait, or silver-beige. Parti poodles are usually more than half white with colored spots. They can range from almost a solid white with just a few spots of color to the more colorful tuxedos. Tuxedos look like a poodle dressed for a party. They have white on the legs and a white collar that may or may not go completely around the neck. Tuxedo-colored poodles also have white on the belly that should extend up to the chest. Some tuxedos have colored legs almost to the feet and others have white all the way up to their back. Abstract poodles have limited white markings and are almost a solid colored dog. The most common abstract poodle marking is a simple white mark on the chest. White splashes of color may also occur on the face, head, chest, and feet. Abstract poodles sometimes have a white chest and white feet that look like they have been dipped in paint. Ticking marks are the small spots found within the white parts of the dog. Dogs may have little to no ticking. Ticking on legs may look like small spots or be large enough to look like stripes. All of our breeding dogs have been genetically tested. Genetic testing in dogs gives us insight to conditions like Muscular Dystrophy, which sometimes is found in Golden Retrievers or Glaucoma, which is found in poodles. Having this insight and knowledge allows us to deter breeding, if the female or male shows this in their genetic panel. Then, when we breed the clear panel parents, the puppies are cleared under the parents. Our underlying goal is to improve the breed. Breeding is not about the numbers for Sugarshack Doodles! Raising puppies is a full-time job. People many times do not realize the financial cost of having a litter of puppies. Genetic screening, health tests before breeding, extra food, supplies, medical care involved in whelping a litter adds up quickly. It is important to us to listen to our buyers and make sure that the dog we have is a correct fit for the buyer. We know our genetics! We have male and female dogs on site and breed only to our own dogs. We do not stud out our males. We retire our females at about four or five years and find them guardian homes; mostly to our friends and family. Our pups have a life expectance of approximately years. Many of our dogs are currently with us and are 18 years old. A "fair" result on a hip will disqualify a dog from entering into our breeding program. We have our dogs in our home and in our own backyard of seven acres. We do not go to dog parks or walk in unknown territory. Our puppies are sold to buyers with full disclosures and are up to date on shots and wormings. After the pups go home at weeks of age, we still offer at cost immunizations and wormings should this be needed. Before they leave, we review all of their vaccinations and immunizations and offer microchipping. We do ask that your dog be spayed or neutered at seven to nine months of age and that the females do not go through a heat cycle. We ask you sign a no-breed contract. Many of us are groomers and will provide grooming services to you after you take your puppy home. Our fees are reasonable, and they are donated to local charities such as American Cancer Society, Food Pantries in the area and Animal Shelters! We try to make the transition of bringing a new little pet into your home an easy one. We go through all of the items that we think you will need and then of course, if there are any extra items we will recommend those as well. We were present during the birthing process and will stand right by our puppies until they are in your loving arms. F1b Goldendoodle puppies What size and type of doodle will fit your style? Doodles in General Doodles come in many sizes and generations! In a few sentences there is the first generation, which is the standard golden retriever and poodle This will produce the F1, or first generation. This F1 bred back to a poodle will give you an F1b. If you breed an F1 to an F1, you will get a second generation. A second generation, F2, bred back to poodle will give you an F2b. A multigenerational doodle is one that has been bred Goldendoodle to Goldendoodle for more than three generations. This, we call an F3. Sizes Sugarshack Doodles breeds micro mini, mini and petite, as well as small standard doodles. We breed doodles that are 10 pounds and under, , and then you will see our 40 pound pups and of course, we do have an over 40 size, generally under 55 pounds. We breed double doodles and this includes our sheepadoodles. Our sheepadoodles are minis, this is pounds. Coat types It is very important to know that dog coats vary on doodles, to study the genetics of each dog and know what your end result will be. People that are looking for an exceptionally curly doodle need to know that it is probably an F1bb or three parts poodle. As a breeder, I use my knowledge as well as Embark and other genetic results when making the decision of which male to use. A good breeder will not only get the testing done on their dogs, but be able to understand and utilize this information. I personally prefer the wavy coats and not the excessive curl. Therefore, I breed for a wavy coat to a minimal curl. Personalities Personality varies from dog to dog. If we see any abnormal or minimally aggressive personalities in our dogs, they are not eligible for our breeding program. This is an unacceptable trait and typically not only is the pup disqualified, but the parents are as well. Even though the parents may not have ever exhibited aggression, that fact that this trait was dominant in the puppies is indicative that both parents carried recessive genes for this trait to be dominant in the puppy. Although we have never seen this in our breeding program, it is something that should be discussed and disclosed. I do not believe that an aggressive pup should be sold. Our puppies are started out on early neurological stimulation ENS from birth until the time they are ready to go home. A lot of one on one time is spent on our puppies, including puppy pad training, crate training, puppy bed training all during a time during which mom is teaching them independence from nursing and encouraging them to eat dry dog food. Some of our Doodles Stormy is a multigenerational goldendoodle with a gorgeous fleece coat. She has a beautiful loose curl. We bred Stormy to Yogi and she delivered 8 pups on July 29, , .These puppies will be pounds at maturity. Lola is a 23 pound tuxedo red Goldendoodle, who we bred to Yogi, our English mini Goldendoodle of 22 pounds. These will not exceed the 25 pound mark. This pair makes gorgeous pups, with dark deep colors that do not fade! Lola delivered 8 pups July,24, with a go home date for her puppies September 15, 16 and 17 of .Gloria is 25 pounds and we bred her to Tucker, again to obtain that mini Goldendoodle. Gloria will deliver puppies in early September, with a go home date of November, .She is a gorgeous dark red parti, whose parents both carry red. Sandy K is a sheepadoodle that is black and white, with a few strands of gray and hazel colored eyes. He is 60 pounds. Since, hereditary issues run in OES and poodles, he went through a series of tests, eye examinations and hips which were sent off to OFA for a grade. His tests, Embark, genetic panels, eyes and hips are all excellent. She is about 35 pounds, her coat is gorgeous gray and white. Again, with OES and poodles carrying and prone to health issues, she was fully tested and is an excellent healthy sheepadoodle. She is a beauty with her stunning personality, so loving and tender. Randi is a mommy-dog to four! Scooter is a 12 pound miniature goldendodle. Both of her parents were multigenerational goldendoodles. She is fun loving and enjoys the active lifestyle. Scooter has a beautiful coat of wavy curls. What does your puppy come home with? We automatically administer three de-worming doses. How do the puppies get worms, you may ask. Sometimes the mommy dog will have worms from being outside and pass the worms in utero or through her milk. So, therefore we worm both mom and pups three times. He starts by putting his front paws on your lap and the next thing you know he has wiggled his big body on your lap. He sure has grown from that tiny puppy we picked up. He has recently discovered the deer that have come into our yard. I was outside with him early one morning and looked at him and he was frozen in place staring past the swing set. I walked over to see what was going on and a deer was standing there. The UPS driver came down the driveway the other day to drop off a package and he gave Tucker a few treats.
