We are obsessed with her my kids love her and she has the best personality we tell every one we know about your puppies and how loving and helpful you were with us after penny died. We have never had an Australian shepherd before but as soon as we met our puppy we fell in love with her and the breed. She bonded completely to me very quickly. I have taught her several tricks both verbally and by hand signals. She is extremely smart. She had a very calm and sweet disposition from the day I picked her up. She loves to swim. She rarely needs a shower, If so I just rinse her with water. Dirt doesn't seem to stick on her, she always looks clean and doesn't seem to shed. Her hair is really soft. I live in Arkansas and so by chance was driving through the McVay's area, in the sticks and called to ask if I could stop by and show her off as when I bought her they asked me to text some pictures if I could from time to time, I figured the real thing would be better. I viewed their kennel where they kept their Aussies and also they have a huge field for them to run in. It was a very well kept place and the McVay's are just good people, who love their dogs. They had quite an impressive mix of colors and very beautiful dogs. Now that Bree has bonded to me I take her out around people and dogs to socalize her. Very loving do. We are calling him Ryder. Even though we have had him for only a few days he has been super friendly and very playful towards anyone he meets. She is so good with our girls. She sleeps with my 2 year old every night. Thank you for a wonderful puppy. She is adjusting already and we were impressed by her temperament and good habits. Thank you so much for everything!!! This cross means that Australian Shepherd Mix puppies can have the traits of an Australian Shepherd, the other dog breed in the cross, or any combination of both of the parent breeds. On the Australian Shepherd side, you have a loving, loyal, dedicated, and high-energy working dog that also makes a great pet for an active family. This, in addition to meeting the puppy and the mother dog in-person, will give you a good idea of what to expect in your puppy. If the Australian Shepherd Mix takes after the Australian Shepherd, they will be a highly intelligent and highly active dog that loves to be doing things with their families. Although Australian Shepherds are high-energy working dogs with herding instincts built-in, they tend to get along well with children and are highly protective of their families, which makes them good watchdogs and guard dogs. They can be wary and suspicious of strangers and other dogs, but with socialization early and often, they can take on a more open and friendly nature. Asking the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross will give you a better idea of what temperament to expect in your Australian Shepherd Mix puppy. Puppies raised in the same litter will often learn how to behave from their mother, so meeting the mother dog in-person will also give you a good idea of what sort of temperament your puppy might have. Depending on the other dog breed in the cross, the Australian Shepherd Mix is likely to be highly adaptable. An Australian Shepherd can adapt to large homes with plenty of space to run as well as smaller apartments, as long as they are given plenty of exercise and attention. They also do well in both cold and warm climates. This could change a bit depending on the other parent breed, but asking the breeder about the parents is a good way to determine what to expect. The Australian Shepherd is a relatively healthy dog breed, but there are some potential health issues to be aware of. These include deafness, allergies, cancer, hypothyroidism, epilepsy , and sensitivity to certain drugs. Talking with the breeder about the genetic history of both of the parent breeds, any breed-specific issues with the other parent breed, and asking to see any health clearances can help allay several potential health concerns. Australian Shepherds are highly intelligent, tend to be sensitive to their owners, and are innately eager to please. If the Australian Shepherd Mix takes after their Australian Shepherd parent, they will be a good fit for an owner of any experience level. The grooming level to expect in an Australian Shepherd Mix will depend heavily on the parent breeds in the cross. An Australian Shepherd does shed year-round with two heavier seasonal shedding sessions and will require regular brushing to maintain a healthy coat. If kept groomed, they only need to be bathed when they are dirty, which keeps their bathing needs low maintenance. You will want to ask the breeder about the other dog breed in the mix to get a better idea of what coat types you could expect. If the Australian Shepherd Mix has ears that flop over, they will be more prone to ear infections as their ears are more likely to trap moisture, dirt, and debris. You may just need to check floppy ears more often. Dental disease is one of the most common, and most preventable, health issues in dogs. Good dental care for your dog could include one or a mix of brushing their teeth daily, using enzyme toothpaste, dental chews, and more. Because the Australian Shepherd has such a high energy level, you need to be prepared for an Australian Shepherd Mix to require a lot of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Not only do Australian Shepherds need a job to do, but they also need to run and play a lot to expend energy. This could vary in an Australian Shepherd Mix depending on the other breed in the cross, but you will need to be prepared for the possibility of a high-energy working dog. An Australian Shepherd usually stands 18 — 23 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 35 and 70 pounds. The size of an Australian Shepherd Mix can be greatly affected by the other parent breed in the cross. Asking the breeder about the other parent breed and meeting the mother dog can give you a good idea of what size to expect in your Australian Shepherd Mix puppy. Australian Shepherds generally live for 12 — 15 years. Although the other parent breed of an Australian Shepherd Mix can affect the average life expectancy slightly, you should be able to expect a similar life span from them. Thank you for all the help and the very fast shipping! The cart was easy to assemble , easy to place my dog in and he has adapted it very quickly. Your service was excellent and I recommend the k 9 cart to others who have a dog with hind leg paresis. Tomorrow we will try the leg slings. Kelly I just wanted to email you to thank you for your amazing product. The mobility your chair provided him which allowed him to go on walks which was the happiest part of his day. Diamond Received the cart yesterday and have gone for two walks with it. The first cart we tried, from Best Friends, was almost impossible to figure out and we sent it back. They provided little in the way of instructions or support, and it had a much flimsier feel to it. The K9 cart only required adjusting the wheels to the proper height, and goes on and off in seconds. Your instructions are very clear. I appreciate the time you spent helping me order it and you attention to detail. The frame is very solid, and I like the big wheels and the way they splay out. Thanks for such a great product, and for your excellent support. Phil Order was placed on March 9, for our German Shepherd who was paralyzed and could not walk by herself and your cart gave her back her mobility so that she could go on walks, play with other dogs, and engage in Frisbee again and we wanted to thank you and to share a few pictures with you. Thanks so much for giving her back her mobility and reasons to keep going. Alan Duncan, Cover Dog Canelo is Searching for His Forever Home Canelo is a 2-year-old Chihuahua mix who was brought to the Montgomery County animal shelter last year with severe injuries to his hind legs. His back legs dragged behind him, unable to bear any weight on his back legs. Canelo was eventually brought to the Who Rescued Who animal rescue in Texas, where his foster mom worked hard to help him adjust to his new life on wheels! Now he can stand and take a few wobble steps on his own! Still hoping to find his forever home, Canelo has a big personality and absolutely loves life! When Angel is in her cart, she is able to choose where she wants to eat, who she wants to hang out with and has the confidence of our cows. Her wheels transformed her! I love his independence with his wheels. A year ago, Chalky was diagnosed with a brain tumor that caused seizures and the loss of his back legs. I would be lying if I said it has been easy, but I can say it has been fulfilling. We have gotten to know and understand him better than we had before his illness. His dog wheelchair has given us more time to spend with Chalky. Even though he is only one part of our lives, we are his all. When we see the affection and determination in his face to live a full and happy life it gives us all the encouragement and motivation we need. Chalky has made us better people, more patient, understanding and considerate. Luckily, he was rescued from the side of the road and taken to a veterinarian where he recovered for two months. Literally nothing holds him back. Danny absolutely adores his wheels. He is so full of energy and so fast that these allow him to race around like a normal puppy. The love and care that they give back to you is indescribable. They know that they need that little bit of extra care and that you give it to them and the bond that they form with you is so strong, it is truly a beautiful feeling. Although, Kardi was paralyzed in , she has never let that slow her down. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer, in January and given 6 months to live. Odie has defied the odds and lived 20 months post diagnosis! Her surgery was successful and 75 stitches later her cancer was gone. Fast forward to today and Mily just turned 16! His new parents, Anita and Mick Harradence rushed him to the Veterinarian where Little Michael had extensive spinal surgery resulting in several screws being placed in his spine. Fanny fell fifty feet and broke her back in four places. After surgery and a month-long recovery in the Vet office, Fanny finally came home with a new set of wheels. Her full support wheelchair has helped Fanny with her balance and kept her moving. Fanny is a thriving tripod who is still healing but gets better with each day! His family believes that without his wheelchair his life would have been very different. Justice for All from Spring Hills, Florida Justice may have had a rough start to her life, but her mom says she is living her best life ever as a double amputee certified therapy dog! Justice was in terrible condition and had suffered unimaginable abuse. Her legs were badly wounded, and infection had set in. Paralyzed from the waist back, her vertebrae were fused, and she was left incontinent. After receiving a year of care that included vet visits, physical therapy, laser therapy and chiropractic care the decision was made to amputate her back legs and tail. We love teaching and demonstrating that special needs dogs and people are different, not less. With his new wheels Cyrus is able to live happily without even realizing he has a disability! When he arrived, Miles had no function in his back legs and after extensive exams the rescue learned that he had obvious damage to his spine as well. It gives him the ability to go with us on all our adventures to breweries, wineries, restaurants, and parks. When we first adopted Miles, he had little to no use of his rear legs. Miles can now stand and walk feet on his own. Together Miles and his Military Vet father raise funds and spread awareness for non-profit organizations including pet rescues and military veteran organizations across the country. With Bangkok, Thailand devastated by flooding the staff of the ENP rented boats saving dogs that were trapped around the city. In total the ENP team saved 2, floods and opened their sanctuary to of those dogs to live. Since then, they have continued to open the sanctuary dogs in need and the rescue is now home to over dogs. You must avoid backyard breeders and puppy mills and report any if you find out about them. As you must have grasped from our list of breeders, good businesses always provide health testing and offer health guarantees covering genetic diseases. They vaccinate, deworm, and groom the animals and treat them as part of their family. They also take full responsibility for their animals and even offer to take them back or provide a refund if the owner has an issue. Moreover, reliable breeders are open and honest. They provide complete information about themselves and their puppies. Moreover, they encourage customers to ask as many questions as they like before making a purchase. They also invite customers to visit their facility and see firsthand where the puppies are raised and trained. So always account for these essential aspects before choosing a breeder. Last but not least, look at reviews and testimonials from previous owners to assess the customer service and work ethics of the breeder. This breed is intelligent, versatile, and hardworking. Their dedication and courage are unmatched. When trained properly, these dogs can excel at almost anything; they make reliable and affectionate companion dogs, similarly exceptional guide and assistance dogs for the handicapped, service dogs for the police and military, search and rescue dogs, and drug detection dogs. Leaving them alone or tied for long periods will make them bored and agitated, and they might resort to barking, digging, or chewing to release their stress. One particularly risky personality trait of German Shepherds is their aloofness to strangers. Hence, train your puppy from an early age to be well-socialized and exposed to different people and places. Moreover, obedience training is extremely important to tame their energetic nature and basic canine mannerisms. Overall, German Shepherds are happiest indoors and around their loving family, but make sure you have a large, fenced backyard for them to run around and release some of their natural energy. Conclusion For Best German Shepherd Breeders In California German Shepherd puppies grow up to become beautiful and affectionate companion dogs and, with the right training, will also make ideal service dogs. These majestic creatures are balls of energy and require an owner that understands their daily requirement for mental and physical stimulation. However, choosing a GSD puppy from the right breeder is critical to a happy and healthy relationship with your dog. You can contact the breeders listed above for more details about their breeding practices, breeding facility, and any other questions about German Shepherd puppies in California. Learn more about the causes of vomiting and diarrhea in puppies and when you should see your veterinarian to make sure there are no serious underlying causes. Causes of Vomiting and Diarrhea in Puppies There are many reasons your puppy might be vomiting or have diarrhea, from harmless to serious medical conditions. Some conditions might cause blood in the vomit or diarrhea as well. Many times, multiple underlying causes will be identified. Viruses There are several viruses that can cause signs of an upset stomach in puppies. These include the common canine parvovirus , as well as other viruses like canine coronavirus , canine distemper virus, and canine herpesvirus. Viral infections tend to be more severe in young puppies. You can protect your puppy against many of the most common viruses with vaccinations. Typically, puppies require multiple vaccinations spread out over the first several months of life to be fully vaccinated, so work with your veterinarian to determine the most appropriate vaccination schedule for your puppy. However, if certain strains of bacteria multiply too quickly or overgrow, or if your puppy picks up a bacterial infection, it can cause gastrointestinal upset. Bacteria that commonly overgrow include E. Stress, a sudden change in diet, a viral infection, or intestinal parasites can all cause these bacteria to overgrow. Intestinal Parasites Intestinal parasites are another common infectious cause of vomiting and diarrhea in puppies. The Companion Animal Parasite Council recommends that puppies be tested for intestinal parasites at least four times in their first year of life. Worms that may cause vomiting and diarrhea in puppies include hookworms , roundworms , whipworms , and tapeworms. There are also microscopic intestinal parasites that can lead to gastrointestinal upset, including giardia and coccidia. Stress can also affect immune system function and may make puppies more susceptible to viruses, bacteria, and intestinal parasites. Stress can come from leaving their mom and siblings, moving to a new home, being exposed to new situations, and learning the rules that are expected of them. Swallowing Things Puppies are curious and constantly exploring their environment. Many things puppies eat that cause upset are small enough to pass through the digestive system, irritating the sensitive lining of the stomach and intestines. This can include small toys, mulch, sand, rocks, sticks, paper, food wrappers, or really anything a puppy can get access to and is curious about. This can even include chew treats that were not completely chewed before swallowing. Larger objects are potentially more dangerous because they can get stuck in the gastrointestinal tract and cause an obstruction. Some larger objects that puppies commonly eat include toys, socks, underwear, blankets, bedding, and bones. Long, stringy objects like fabric, carpet, strings, and ribbons also pose a risk for causing what is known as a linear foreign body. A linear foreign body occurs when one end of a long, linear object gets stuck in the gastrointestinal tract often where the stomach empties into the small intestine. This can cause the intestines to bunch up on themselves and results in serious, potentially life-threatening infections. Eating Something Toxic Toxins are also common causes of vomiting and diarrhea. Common toxins include human pain medications ibuprofen , Tylenol , Aleve , household cleaning agents bleach, carpet fresheners and shampoos, dryer sheets, fabric softeners, and tablets used for toilet cleaning , chocolate, xylitol , grapes , rat poisons , and household plants. It is particularly important to make sure that none of your plants are toxic to puppies. Sudden Changes in Diet Sudden changes in food, introducing too many new treats, or letting your puppy eat human food can cause inflammation in their gastrointestinal tract and may lead to signs of an upset stomach. New foods can also alter the bacteria in their gastrointestinal tract. It is best to gradually transition puppies to new foods over the course of a week sometimes even more slowly if you have a puppy with a sensitive digestive system. Pancreatitis Treats and human foods that are high in fat pose a risk of causing pancreatitis , which can cause a lot of pain and discomfort in addition to vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Chronic Disease Chronic diseases are a less common cause of vomiting and diarrhea in puppies, but if a puppy is having issues with recurrent vomiting and diarrhea or is not responding well to treatment, their veterinarian may start to look for evidence of food intolerances or allergies. If an allergy or intolerance is discovered, your vet may recommend a special diet. A hernia occurs when a portion of the gastrointestinal tract becomes pinched off. Puppies can be born with hernias or they may develop after an injury. Intussusceptions, which occur when a section of the intestines bunches up, can lead to obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract and cause vomiting and diarrhea in puppies. However, there are instances where waiting to see your veterinarian may be OK, including: In puppies that are over 4 months of age and having issues with vomiting, it may be safe to wait 24 hours to see the vet if they are not having diarrhea; are able to hold down water when offered small, frequent sips; do not appear to be in pain; can rest comfortably; and have relatively normal energy levels. In puppies that are over 4 months of age and having issues with diarrhea, it may be safe to wait 24 hours to see the vet if they are not vomiting; do not have blood in their diarrhea; are not having very frequent, watery diarrhea; and are eating, drinking, and acting normally. How to Check for Dehydration Dehydration can happen quickly in puppies experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. If you suspect your puppy might be dehydrated, try these at-home tests: Skin Tent Test—This involves gently pulling up on the skin on the back of their neck to see if it quickly snaps back into place. If you pull up on the skin and it slowly goes back to normal, your puppy may be dehydrated. Mucous Membranes—If your puppy will allow it, try feeling their gums. If their gums feel sticky or tacky like wet paint drying , they may be dehydrated. Other things you may notice in dehydrated puppies are dry noses, sunken eyes, or lethargy. If your puppy is over 4 months of age and only having an issue with vomiting or diarrhea but otherwise acts normal, some things that may help at home include: Offering a bland diet temporarily. A typical meal might include two parts cooked white rice mixed with one part boiled, boneless, skinless chicken breast. It is best to offer small, frequent meals when feeding a bland diet. Consider adding a probiotic to their diet to help promote digestive health Nutramax Proviable and Purina FortiFlora are good options. How Vets Diagnose Vomiting and Diarrhea in Puppies When dealing with a puppy with vomiting or diarrhea, most veterinarians will start out with a general examination. Based on their findings, they may also recommend looking at blood work, X-rays, and ultrasound to investigate what is going on with your puppy. How are they acting at home? Are they still eating and drinking normally? Has there been any blood in their vomit or diarrhea? Have there been any recent changes in their food or treats? Treating Vomiting and Diarrhea in Puppies Treatment is highly dependent on the cause and severity. The mainstays of treatment include medications to stop vomiting, treat dehydration, and correct electrolyte imbalances. This will typically involve giving an anti-nausea medication, like Cerenia , and some sort of fluid therapy. In cases with mild dehydration, fluids may be administered under the skin subcutaneous fluids to help get puppies back to their proper hydration status. In cases of moderate to severe dehydration, hospitalization with IV fluids will be required. Antibiotics may be recommended in cases of suspected bacterial infections. If there are concerns about an obstruction, hernia, or intussusception, immediate surgery may be needed. Featured image: iStock. Help us make PetMD better Was this article helpful? Chronic disease, such as inflammatory bowel disease IBD Stress due to boarding or other change in environment or routine Preventing Vomiting and Diarrhea in Dogs Avoid feeding fatty, salty, or spicy foods Introduce diet changes slowly, over days, to allow the intestinal bacteria to adjust. Speak to your vet about calming supplements or anxiety medication if your pet is easily stressed. During times of stress, it may be helpful to use a soothing pheromone spray or plug-in adapter Adaptil. Consider feeding a probiotic supplement if your pet is prescribed antibiotics. Always ask the advice of a vet before giving your pet supplements or medication. If your dog eats a raw diet or has exposure to rodents or wildlife, your vet may recommend routinely submitting a fresh stool sample to rule out intestinal parasites. Roundworms are extremely common in puppies. Your vet will recommend deworming your new puppy with an appropriate dewormer. Ask your vet or make an appointment with one of the FirstVet vets to discuss deworming your puppy or adult dog. Vaccinating your dog against parvovirus is extremely important. Puppies should be vaccinated starting at weeks, then every 3 weeks until weeks of age. Adult boosters will be needed to maintain immunity. Prevention of this disease is VERY important. Parvovirus is extremely contagious and can cause fatalities, especially in young puppies. Treating Your Dog's Vomiting or Diarrhea at Home If your dog is bright and happy, and there is no blood in the diarrhea or vomit, then you can often start by providing symptomatic treatment at home. If your dog is vomiting, withhold food for hours. Very small dogs and puppies should NOT be fasted at all due to a high risk of developing severely low blood sugar levels. Offer a bland diet in small portions. Examples include boiled rice or potatoes with cooked chicken breast or very lean hamburger, or a prescription intestinal diet. Your dog should always have access to fresh water. This requirement will be significantly increased if your dog is vomiting or has diarrhea. Ensure that your dog is allowed quiet time to rest and fully recover. Veterinary Treatment of Vomiting and Diarrhea If your dog is very ill or dehydrated, he may need to be hospitalized. Your dog may be given intravenous fluids to correct dehydration and replace lost electrolytes sodium, potassium, chloride. Blood tests may be performed to check red and white blood cell levels, as well as internal organ function. These include x-rays or ultrasound of the abdomen, stool analysis, and tests for diseases like pancreatitis or parvovirus. Symptomatic treatments will likely continue when your dog is ready to go home. A bland diet that requires minimal digestion will likely be prescribed. Your dog may go home with prescriptions for anti-nausea medication, antacids, pain relief, and probiotics to replace normal gut bacteria. Read more:. Jeff Werber is an Emmy Award-winning, nationally renowned veterinarian and former president of the Association of Veterinary Communicators. For more from Dr. Werber, find him on Facebook or on his website at www. When should you panic and take your pet to your veterinarian immediately? As a general practitioner who fields phone calls from anxious clients on a very regular basis, I thought it would be a good idea to share with you some guidelines to help ease your minds or not , and help you answer these questions. As a matter of fact, though these dogs want to eat or drink, it is best not to let them. Often, once that stomach goes through the rigors and smooth muscular contractions associated with vomiting, not to mention the potential irritation to the stomach wall itself, it is primed for more vomiting. So, anything that goes into that stomach, even something as benign as water, which will stretch that stomach wall, and can easily induce more vomiting. Simply said, vomiting breeds vomiting. What we recommend is to keep these dogs without food for at least 12 hours, and instead of allowing them access to water, place a few ice cubes or ice chips in his or her water bowl in order to minimize the amount of water that can be ingested at one time. This will prevent the stomach from stretching. Now, if the vomiting continues despite all of this, or your dog seems to be becoming more depressed or listless, begins to dry-heave frequently, or you note his or her abdomen beginning to expand and tighten up, then it is definitely time to call your veterinarian or a local emergency hospital. As far as diarrhea is concerned, we typically see two types—small intestinal and large intestinal. Small intestinal diarrhea is typically characterized by very loose or watery stool. Dogs with large intestinal diarrhea are more often than not still happy and animated. If dogs with the very watery, small intestinal diarrhea, are still acting okay, and will eat, we recommend feeding them a very bland diet, say boiled white meat chicken, or low-fat cottage cheese, mixed with white rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta. This is fairly easy to digest and will act to help bind them. The bland chicken or cottage cheese is still appropriate, but for the carbohydrates you want to feed high fiber, like cooked oatmeal, bran or bran flakes no Raisin Bran, of course , or canned pumpkin. You can even add some psyllium powder. Limping This is also a common complaint, and seems to freak pet parents out a lot. The causes are many, ranging from injury bone or soft tissue , congenital growth-related conditions, or, in less common instances and more prevalent in much older dogs , cancer. If a soft tissue strain is likely, you can try applying an ice pack or wrap the limb in a cold towel to help relieve any inflammation. In a pinch, you can give your dog an aspirin or Ascriptin one baby aspirin per 15 to 20 lbs of body weight, or one adult aspirin or Ascriptin per 60 to 80 lbs of body weight once! Do not use any Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen without first consulting your veterinarian! Likewise, if you think you need to use a second dose of aspirin because the limping has not resolved at all, we recommend you consult your veterinarian first. If signs of limping or limb pain persist with no resolve within the first 24 to 36 hours, then it is time to visit your veterinarian. If you have any questions or concerns, you should always visit or call your veterinarian — they are your best resource to ensure the health and well-being of your pets. Related symptoms:. Obstruction e. How to Treat Vomiting and Diarrhea in Dogs at Home If your dog has mild vomiting and diarrhea and is otherwise well there are some treatments you can try at home. Offer small amounts of food and water after this period and see if the vomiting continues after this break. Diarrhea can take a little bit longer to resolve but there should be a significant improvement by hours and they should be able to keep food and water down. It should be fed little and often, smaller meals throughout the day. Avoid feeding any treats or milk apart from the bland food as this could irritate their stomach and intestines more. Prebiotics and probiotics can be helpful when treating upset stomachs. It puts good bacteria back into the gut which helps resolve the upset tummy. Only buy these supplements from a reputable source, ideally, one recommended by your veterinarian. Fiber supplements such as psyllium husk and pureed pumpkin can also be helpful but consult your vet about this, particularly if your dog has underlying conditions that cause constipation. Avoid giving any human medications unless advised by your veterinarian. Many human medications are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given at certain doses. If you think your dog is stressed you can use a pheromone diffuser Adaptil to help. You can discuss calming medications or supplements with your vet. Dogs with underlying conditions e. Some underlying conditions such as these will make your dog more prone to dehydration and electrolyte abnormalities and vomiting and diarrhea will only worsen this. They will examine your dog and they can do blood and urine testing to rule out underlying conditions e. X-rays and an ultrasound exam may be warranted if your vet is concerned about an obstruction foreign body , inflammatory bowel disease, or cancer. Your vet will investigate the cause and prescribe the medication that your dog needs. How To Prevent Vomiting and Diarrhea in Your Dog If your dog has a history of eating things like socks or toys, never leave them unsupervised with dog toys and tidy everything else out of their reach or put them in dog-proof cupboards. Now that we know what causes vomiting and diarrhea in dogs, we have a better idea of how to prevent it. Even though most cases of vomiting and diarrhea will resolve quickly, other cases can be more serious so we want to prevent our dogs from getting sick at any cost. One of the big things to prevent vomiting and diarrhea is to keep your dog healthy and fit. Dog foods that have a limited ingredient list are ideal as they are less likely to cause a tummy upset and also have fewer allergens to potentially trigger a food allergy. Be mindful of broken toys or sharp items that could be very harmful if your dog ate them. If your dog has a history of eating things like socks or toys, never leave them unsupervised with dog toys and tidy everything else out of their reach or put them in dog-proof cupboards. To avoid parasites keep your dog up to date on their worming control treatment. This can be purchased from your veterinary clinic. Most cases resolve quickly but others can take longer and might have an underlying cause. They can rule out things like parasites, an obstruction, or kidney and liver disease. No pet parents want to face this situation… You get home from work, ready to have dinner and then relax. Upon a little searching, you realize your furry best friend had an upset tummy, and has vomited or had diarrhea while you were out. And, your pal seems to be feeling down, with less energy than usual. Your regular vet is already closed. So, do you take your pet in to an emergency or urgent care veterinarian, or do you wait until morning? Instead, the answer depends on a number of different factors. Signs that your dog or cat needs to go to the vet right away Often, if a pet has vomiting or diarrhea, they may be feeling down compared to their normal selves—less energetic and less playful. They may also eat less, due to nausea or stomach pain, or inability to keep food down. Just like for humans, an upset stomach is no fun for your furkids. Vomiting for more than 12 hours or diarrhea that goes on for more than 24 hours. Noticeable loss of energy, lethargy, or an inability to stand and walk. Blood in the vomit or stool. Visible parasites or worms in the vomit or stool. This is a common problem, even if your dog or cat is still drinking water. The gums should be moist. The skin should relax back into place right away. Why is my dog or cat throwing up, or having loose stool? Food allergies and food sensitivities. Stress a common cause of diarrhea during boarding. More dangerous causes of vomiting and diarrhea include: Toxins for example, chocolate, pesticides, and certain plants. Metabolic illnesses affecting the liver, kidneys, pancreas, or gall bladder. Serious infections, such as Parvovirus in dogs. Hormonal disorders. Foreign objects that can get stuck in the stomach or intestines like a toy ball. GI ulcers. How do veterinarians know if the vomiting and diarrhea are serious? The information you give will help them make a list of the most likely causes. Then, the veterinarian will perform a physical exam of your dog or cat. They will also look for evidence of any underlying diseases causing the upset stomach. However, if there are any abnormal findings, your vet will explain them and partner with you to determine the next step. What will make my pet feel better? Your veterinarian will prescribe treatments, which may vary depending on exactly what would benefit your pet the most. Common treatments include: A short period of fasting for adult pets. A bland diet, such as plain chicken and rice, or a prescription diet for sensitive stomachs. Fluids given at the veterinary clinic this helps restore hydration and electrolytes, which are commonly lost via the vomit and diarrhea. Medications for nausea and to help firm up the stool. Treatments for underlying causes for example, antibiotics or de-wormers.

With a Chihuahua Pug already prone to aggressive tendencies, thanks to its Chihuahua side, owners should take steps to ensure their hybrid pet does not become some diva. In short, behavior that is not acceptable from adult large dogs should not be tolerated in small dogs either. It will do well with someone who can provide a Your Pug Chihuahua mix should undergo obedience training and socialization while its still a puppy. Owners should also continue with the training and socialization programs even when their dog becomes an adult to prevent the development of the syndrome. Thanks to their propensity to please their owners, Chugs are easy to train. Here are some interesting tips to consider when training a small dog like the Chug: Think and stay positive. Always remember that small breeds tend to get scared or startled easily. Give your dog small treats and give belly rubs and praise freely. Keep it short and sweet. Stay low. Looming over your small dog while you shout commands will just frighten it. It will make you less intimidating and make your dog feel more comfortable and secure. Once your dog has learned some commands and tricks, you can stand and begin training from a higher level. Stand your ground. Small dogs get away with a lot of things because of their size. Stand your ground and stay true to the training. Housetraining small dogs is different. Crate training is one of the best ways to housetrain your puppy. It loves its human and will try its best to please its owner. However, you should be ready to provide your pet with lots of love and attention. Children should also be taught how to handle this dog properly. This means families with very young children might not be a good match for this dog. A Chihuahua Pug cross is an ideal pet for apartment dwellers, although it will thrive in all types of homes. It has to live indoors as its small stature means it can easily wiggle out of a fence. This dog also prefers warm weather, which is why it loves to snuggle so much. Life Span Did You Know? In general, these dogs are playful, energetic, and loving companions with charming personalities. They tend to resemble a Pug, but are smaller and sometimes have slightly longer snouts. Chug puppies tend to be loving and affectionate little dogs with a social and friendly disposition. They tend to get along with just about everyone including children, other dogs, and other pets. They can be initially reserved with strangers, but tend to warm up quickly as they bask in the attention from new friends. Because they are so small, they can be easily injured by young children who are still learning to walk or master fine motor control. So, interactions between young kids and puppies should be closely supervised, and this dog may be a better fit for families with older children. Mini Pugs can be prone to barking a lot, especially alert barking. So, you do want to work with them early on to train your dog to stop barking and keep it from becoming a nuisance behavior. Chugs tend to be highly adaptable dogs that do well in apartments as well as larger homes. Because they are a brachycephalic dog that cannot regulate their own temperature well, they are extremely sensitive to heat. Their protruding eyes, small size, and short coat also mean they will likely need some winter dog products to stay warm while out on walks during the cold months. As a companion breed that thrives on attention, they do not like to spend a lot of time alone. Potential health concerns in a Chug include respiratory issues, corneal ulcers, intervertebral disc disease, myelopathy, patellar luxation, and canine epilepsy. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of a dog and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Overall, a Chug is intelligent and eager to please. However, they can be stubborn and strong-willed. As long as training is consistent and positive, they are a good fit for owners of all experience levels. A Chug has a short, glossy coat that will shed moderately year-round. They require brushing a few times a week and bathing as needed. You will also need to check and clean their facial wrinkles and eyes regularly. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning them as needed can help prevent ear infections. As a small dog breed, a Chug is more prone to developing dental problems. Daily brushing with a dog-friendly toothpaste or enzyme toothpaste, in addition to cleanings at the vet, is ideal. Daily walks plus some playtime are usually enough for this little dog. Just keep some safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs in mind, like bringing water, taking breaks, etc. A fully-grown Chug tends to stand inches tall and weighs pounds. Mini Pugs generally live for years on average. Featured Chug Article. Chug puppies for sale!!! Winnipeg Chug puppies born July 4th. Pug and chihuahua mix. A friendly dog by nature, it strives for human attention and likes to remain close to its family members. It is patient with children and does well with other pets too. However, its athletic and exuberant disposition calls for careful observation when around younger children, otherwise they could be knocked over and get hurt. This sociable and pack-oriented pet is always happy to help its owner in family activities. Like its Weimaraner parent, it suffers from separation anxiety when left alone for hours. Although it does not bark at everything, it will certainly alert its owner about the presence of an intruder. This makes it suitable for watching and guarding activities. Care Exercise Being highly energetic and lively, labmaraners need plenty of daily activities to burn off their energy. Thus, homes with enough room to play and run are suitable for raising these dogs. They should be taken out for walks every day, which does not mean strolling around the neighborhood will satisfy their exercise requirements. To be fit, they need vigorous activities like hiking, running, and playing. Since these obedient dogs like to stay close to their owners, they do not always have to be taken out on leashes. Grooming The short and smooth-haired labmaraner does not require extensive maintenance. Combing once in every alternate week keeps its coat glossy. While bathing your pet with mild soap is recommended only when needed, occasional dry shampooing prevents the accumulation of dirt. Health Problems Like most crossbreeds , it is also prone to hereditary health issues. It may inherit some health conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, entropion, obesity, and bloating from its parent breeds. Also, check for some general dog health concerns including diarrhea, worms, fleas, and ear infections. Training Even though training them is easy, their occasional stubbornness is something that inexperienced owners might find difficult to manage. Employ a firm and assertive training method, but do not be harsh in your approach. Make the puppies familiar to their cage or crate so that they accept it as their safe dwelling place. Start socialization and obedience training early to prevent them from becoming over-dependent. This will also restrain some of their destructive behaviors like chewing small household items and digging holes in the yards. Feeding Your labmaraner dog needs a nutritious diet rich in proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals to support its high activity levels. Instead of providing one or two heavy meals, you should divide it through the day. Interesting Facts These are multitalented dogs and could be used for retrieving, jogging, agility, and performing tricks. They are good swimmers and do not shy away from the water. The breed was a great success. Labrador retrievers are considered among the most intelligent and trainable dog breeds. This is why they are often used as working dogs. Labs are also naturally playful and affectionate. They love their people, and they are friendly with strangers and other animals. This makes them great family pets but terrible guard dogs. This is why they are usually rated among the top three dog breeds in most countries. The main complaint that people have about a Lab is that it has a high-shedding coat , which can be difficult to manage. Yes, we have Labs at home and I assume we eat our fair share of dog fur throughout the year, especially during the high shedding seasons. Meanwhile, Weimaraners are large dogs that were bred in Germany for hunting in the early 19th century. They are large enough to use when hunting animals such as boars, bears, and deer and were favored by royalty when hunting was still a popular aristocratic pastime. The history of the Weimaraner Lab mix is less well known, but it most likely originated in the s when many of the Lab mixes emerged. While breeders agree the mix results in an excellent dog, Weimaraner Labs are still relatively rare due to their large size and high-shedding coats unlike many other Lab mixes. Weimaraner Labrador Retriever Mix Appearance Both parent breeds are medium-to-large dogs, so you can expect the same from their mixed offspring. Weimaraners are fairly large dogs typically measuring 22 to 28 inches in height. They have athletic bodies, so they typically only weigh between 55 and 88 pounds. Labs are a bit smaller, measuring 21 to 22 inches, but they can weigh between 55 and 80 pounds with their sturdier frame. A Weimador will usually measure between 21 and 24 inches and can weigh anywhere from 60 to pounds depending on whether they get the athletic figure of the Weimaraner or the stockier build of the Lab. They usually have the barrel-chested appearance of the Weimaraner but with a bit more heavy muscle on their frame. Labs have high-shedding double coats that are quite long and can be black, chocolate, or yellow. They will have light amber, gray, or blue gray eyes. Their skin under their coat is a pinkish color rather than white or black. While their coat can be short or long and is a single layer, they still tend to shed quite a bit. They do shed, so they need to be brushed regularly to keep their coat under control. While their appearance can vary significantly, as is true with most mixed breeds, you can expect them to have a relatively long and square muzzle with long ears that flop down. Weimaraner Labrador Retriever Mix Temperament Labrador retrievers are among the most intelligent and naturally friendly dogs, which is why they are popular for mixed breeds. Weimaraners are intelligent, but not on the same level as a lab, so mixing them with a lab improves their intelligence and trainability. Weimaraners also have a very strong prey drive. The trainability that the Lab brings to the Weimador mix is important for teaching your dog what not to do and controlling their natural instincts. Weimaraner Labrador mixes need to be properly socialized from a young age to learn appropriate behavior. However, due to their large size, they should always be supervised when around smaller children. Labradors are very social animals that love being around their people all the time. Weimaraners take this to the next level! They are not independent and prefer to be glued to the side of their person. As a result, you can expect their mixed breed offspring might be a little needy. While their large size means they need outdoor space, they also need to be allowed inside the family home to be close to you. This unique mixed breed can develop fairly severe separation anxiety if they are left on their own for extended periods of time on a regular basis. You can expect whining, digging, and destructive behavior as a response. These dogs do best with families when there is usually someone around the house or when they can accompany someone to work. Weimaraner Labrador Retriever Mix Energy Levels Both Labrador retrievers and Weimaraners are high-energy dogs, so you can expect their mixed breed offspring to be a big ball of energy. They should have plenty of outdoor space available to blow off steam whenever needed. Just make sure your yard is well-fenced! Their prey drive can see them overcome some pretty impressive obstacles to catch smaller animals. A Weimaraner Lab mix needs at least an hour of exercise a day, preferably broken into two or three sessions. These should be active sessions that include running and games such as fetch and pull. They will enjoy accompanying the family on outdoor activities such as hikes and swims. Both their parent breeds love the water, and the Weimaraner even has webbed feet that it may pass on to its offspring. When they are at home, these dogs need quite a bit of mental stimulation. Interactive puzzles and toys that release treats are a good choice for them. A slow feeder is also a good investment as they tend to gobble down their food. This will stimulate them and improve their digestion. Weimaraner Labrador Retriever Mix Health Care Weimaraners are actually considered among the healthiest purebred dogs, and this is something their mixed breed offspring benefit from. They have a good lifespan of 10 to 12 years, which is about average for a dog of this size. Smaller dogs tend to live for longer. Unlike many large dog breeds, hip and elbow dysplasia rates are low in Weimaraners and their mixed offspring, too. It is still worth being careful about this due to the prevalence of the condition in Labs. One of the best things you can do is not over exercise them as a puppy, as this can exacerbate the problem. They should only have five minutes of exercise per month of life until they work up to an hour a day at the age of one. Eye conditions are a common problem for both parent breeds and can show up in their puppies. They probably will develop some kind of sight loss as they enter their senior years. Another problem for Weimanders is bloat or gastric torsion. This is when the stomach twists itself, pinching off blood vessels and blocking the route of food traveling in and out. If it is not treated quickly, it can lead to death fairly swiftly. Constipation and a swollen stomach are among the first symptoms. This can be avoided by feeding them smaller meals more often and avoiding rigorous exercise for an hour before eating, as well as for about an hour after eating. However, they do sometimes show up in shelters. Their neediness means they often prove to be too much for unprepared owners and therefore might find themselves in need of a new home. There are a few breed-specific rescues where you might be more likely to find these dogs. Labrador Weimaraner mixes have a friendly and playful personality and are full of energy. They are quite clingy and love to be around their people all the time. They will want to join you on hikes and in bed, and they can develop anxiety if left alone too much. Is a Weimaraner a good family dog? Weimaraners love their families and will thrive in an active family that has lots of time to spend with them! While they love children, it can be difficult to socialize them to live alongside smaller animals, such as cats, due to their high prey drive. Do Weimaraners like to cuddle? Yes, a Weimaraner will love to get up on the couch with you for a cuddle. They are also fans of standing hugs and will probably greet you with one every time you walk through the door. Weimaraner Lab mix dogs are friendly and playful dogs that are fun to be around, but they are also a pretty big commitment! Their size and energy levels mean you need a pretty big space for them and have to commit to regular exercise. They also need good training structure to keep their prey drive under control. These dogs can only be described as clingy, and they will want to be around you all the time. They will not cope well if left alone at home for hours at a time while everyone is out and about. They are ideal for someone who wants constant canine companionship. Labmaraners are mixed breed dogs. They are not purebreds like their Labrador Retriever or Weimaraner parents. The most common Labmaraner colors are brown, yellow, black, and grey. In general, the Labmaraner is a pretty adaptable dog when it comes to climate. Just make sure to provide a dog coat if the weather gets too frosty, and seek out shade and fresh water during the hotter months. Labmaraner dogs and children are a great fit for each other. The mixed breed is friendly, gentle, and playful and will love to frolic with the kids. Just be sure to supervise play sessions. When it comes to walks and play sessions, aim for a minimum of an hour every day. The Labrador Retriever originates from Canada, where they were first bred for hunting and retrieving tasks before becoming renowned as guide dogs. These days, the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dogs in the United States—a feat likely helped by their gentle and loving nature. The Weimaraner was also originally bred as a hunting dog, but in Germany. The breed is sometimes affectionately called the grey ghost due to their unique color! The Labmaraner has become known as a designer dog breed, but many of them unfortunately end up in shelters. Labmaraner Size The Labmaraner is usually described as a large-sized dog. Although, as is always the case with newer mixed dog breeds, exact size standards might vary. Most weigh in at 60 to pounds and range in height from 21 to 24 inches. Female Labmaraners might be ever so slightly smaller than their male counterparts. They are smart dogs who also take well to training; although, some Labmaraners might prove a little stubborn at first. Persistent and proper training is key. A big family is a plus when considering a Labmaraner—not least because they crave attention and do best when around people. Kids, especially, are a great fit with the breed. Like most large dogs, the Labmaraner will require a lot of exercise. This is not a dog that will prosper being cooped up all day, and destructive behavior might even occur if they are left alone in an apartment. Labmaraner Health Labmaraners are generally considered to be healthy dogs—although the breed can be predisposed to some of the same conditions that the Labrador Retriever and Weimaraner face. Your vet can help you develop a care routine that will keep your dog healthy. It cannot be stressed enough that the Labmaraner needs a lot of exercise. Aim for 60 minutes of walk and play time every single day. If possible, bring the dog along on hikes and runs. As with any active dog, be sure to check their nails and paw pads for any signs of damage that might have been inflicted while outside. Ears will also need to be maintained and checked for infections or parasites—ask your vet about tell tale signs of a possible infection. Labmaraner Feeding An ideal Labmaraner diet should be formulated for a large breed with high energy. Baths should not need to be given too frequently—unless a particularly messy outdoor play session has taken place! The breed is friendly, gentle and playful and will love to frolic with the kids. The Labmaraner is usually tolerant of any resident household pets. Just be sure to monitor early interactions and set boundaries if need be, especially if the dog starts to show any of their hunting heritage traits. Ultimately, early socialization pays off. Make sure to reward your Labmaraner for good behavior and adhere to a proper training regimen when you bring them home to your family. Labmaraner Rescue Groups It may be hard to find a breed-specific rescue for Labmaraners because they are a mixed breed. However, you may want to try Labrador Retriever or Weimaraner breed-specific rescues, as they often care for mixes, as well. Here are some rescues you can try:. Lifespan Sociability Labmaraners are extremely cute puppies, so you might find it hard to visit a litter without coming home with a puppy or two. This breed is extremely energetic and intelligent, so they need a great deal of exercise and mental stimulation. Digging up your backyard, starting up an endless volley of barking, or chewing the leg of your coffee table are just a few ways that these dogs might choose to entertain themselves! Before taking on the responsibility of a Labmaraner puppy who will grow up to be a large and powerful dog, make sure you can provide what they need. They come in a range of coat colors While the Weimaraner is famous for its grey coat, there are three colors accepted within the breed standard. These are blue, gray, and silver gray. Labradors also come in three accepted colors: chocolate, black, and yellow. Both breeds can have small white markings on the chest. They combine the best bits of both parent breeds As with many hybrid breeds, the Labmaraner combines some of the best aspects of both parent breeds. The Labrador is well-known for its loyalty, friendliness, and intelligence. The Weimaraner is prized for its bravery, energy, and bravery. One puppy in a litter might resemble their Labrador Retriever parent in temperament but look more like a Weimaraner, another puppy might be the exact opposite, while another is a perfect mixture of the two breeds. They have no trouble picking up new commands and will enjoy nothing more than a rewarding training session with their owners. Are These Dogs Good for Families? The Labmaraner can soak up as much exercise as you can throw at them, so if someone wants to take them on a run in the morning and another family is heading out to the lake and thinks that your dog might like a swimming session, the answer is always going to be yes! Keep the first few introductions short, and make sure each dog has a separate part of the house where they can retreat to if they want space. Regarding cats and other small pets, Labmaraners can be trained to accept these with a minimum of fuss. As a hunting breed, the Weimaraner does have a high prey drive, and your puppy may inherit this trait. Image: Gualberto Becerra, Shutterstock Things to Know When Owning a Labmaraner Becoming the proud owner of a Labmaraner is going to require a significant investment of time, energy, and money! So, before you make up your mind, here are a few more things to consider. While they might be an active breed, they certainly do love to eat! Whether you choose to feed your dog just wet food, wet food and kibble, just kibble, or a raw food diet will depend on both your preferences and those of your dog. Once fully fit, these active dogs will happily take as much exercise as you can give them. But if you wanted to go out for a day hike and take your pup, then they will easily cope with that and still have energy at the end of the day. They need to run to work off steam, so make sure they can indulge in plenty of opportunities to stretch their legs. Dock diving, games of fetch, fly ball and agility are all excellent activities that a Labmaraner will love. If your dog has excellent recall and a relatively low prey drive, then you should be okay to let them off-leash when out and about. The best method with this smart breed is to combine both physical and mental activities every day. Having an intelligent dog can be a wonderful thing, but it can also be frustrating when they teach themselves a new trick, like opening a door that was meant to stay shut or realizing that they can jump on a chair to investigate leftovers on the table. Consistent training methods are best with this breed, so finding yourself a puppy trainer who can help you implement a training program is a great idea. Luckily, they also love food, so positive reinforcement using plenty of treats usually turns even the most stubborn Labmaraner into a willing student. Sometimes this will shed frequently, like a Labrador, and other times, it will be much lower shedding and similar to a Weimaraner. Labmaraners can have quick-growing nails that can become uncomfortable if allowed to grow too long. Minor Conditions. Weimaraner Lab mix puppies Due to their high energy and potentially anxious nature, this is not a breed that will do well with an owner who works full time and is not at home much. They also like a lot of space, so apartment-dwellers might think twice about this breed. That said, Weimaraner Lab mix dogs make fantastic family pets. They are great with kids and adults alike and a social breed happy in multi-dog households. The breed slowly made its way to the Americas, but their popularity exploded after many Weimaraner pups were brought back from Germany after the end of World War II. The Labrador breed are descended from the St. Labradors were favored by wealthy aristocrats in their early days, before becoming one of the most popular breeds in the modern age. Weimaraner Lab Characteristics The Weimaraner Labrador mix will take on the characteristics of its parent breeds — but as with any mix, the results may vary. Looking at the Weimaraner, the height span is inches, with weight between 55 and 90 lbs. The Labrador is a bit smaller, with a height of .You could assume that a Weimaraner Black Lab mix would fall in a similar weight and height class based on these figures. However, in reality they could be at the Lab minimum or Weimaraner maximum. As for appearance, the Labmaraner is a beautiful dog. It has long legs, a glossy coat, and a strong, muscular frame. The Lab Weimaraner mix tends to have a short, single-layered coat. Longer coats are possible, but are rare. Grooming Since Weimaraner and Lab mix dogs have relatively short coats, their grooming requirements are fairly light. Brushing once a week or so should be sufficient. However, Labradors are prolific shedders, and can molt a great deal. Although Weimaraners shed less, their mix could go either way. So be prepared for either eventuality. Weimaraner Lab Mix Temperament Labrador Weimaraner mixes are very active dogs that tend to have a lot of energy. Since both parent breeds are fairly high-energy, you can count on your Labmaraner having an active personality. These dogs tend to be very loyal and loving, as you would expect from the origin breeds. They are great with kids, and generally make excellent family pets. Their friendly temperament means that although they are likely to bark to alert their owners of an intruder — before running over to get their belly rubbed by said intruder. Labs are also often friendly to the point of being quite pushy, a characteristic that you are less likely to see in a Weimaraner. Weimaraner and Labrador Health Any mixed breed dog will be susceptible to inheriting the health issues of the parent breeds. On the Weimaraner side, potential health problems include hypertrophic osteodystrophy a bone disease , spinal dysraphism a spinal deformity that can lead to neurological abnormalities , hyperuricosuria a condition that can lead to bladder and kidney stones , and hypomyelination a condition that can lead to tremors in puppies. For Labradors, health problems typically include eye problems, joint problems, obesity, and cancer. While generally healthy pups, one of the most common issues with Labs include hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. Labradors may also be prone to obesity and related concerns, including diabetes and arthritis. These factors can typically be controlled by proper feeding habits and regular exercise. The Weimaraner parent should also have good hip scores and have had their eyes checked by a vet. Your pup might be prone to the health issues of either parent, and it may take on more or less of the characteristics of either parent. Socialization and Training Lab Weimaraner mixes are typically happy, social dogs, but they need to be socialized early for best results. The ideal socialization window for young dogs is typically between 8 and 16 weeks of age. This is the period where your pup will be most open to new experiences. And less fearful of larger dogs and unfamiliar humans. Keep in mind that socialization needs to happen with other dogs, and with other people. As for training, Labradors are generally eager to please. They respond very well to positive reinforcement training with treats. Weimaraners are a bit more strong-willed than labradors, which can make training a bit more difficult. Lab Weimaraners should be trained early and often for best results. As they are both sporting dog breeds with the potential for prey drive, recall training from a young age is essential. And thus, the Weimaraner Lab cross is actually rather uncommon. Finding one in a rescue situation will be quite difficult. When choosing a breeder, make sure to do your research. You want to identify a reputable breeder that is knowledgeable and kind to their pups. Ask if the breeder conducted any health testing on the parents, as the results of those tests could sway your decision. Cream, silver, yellow, black, chocolate Suitable for: Active lifestyles, homes with land Temperament: Energetic, loyal, intense, action-oriented So, what exactly happens when you cross these two structurally similar dogs? You get an agile, lean muscular dog that is capable of taking on the world at large. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Labmaraner dogs are energetic and loyal animals. Find the right food for your dog, and give them tons of love to keep them happy and healthy. They have fun-loving personalities and make terrific playmates. The Weimaraner is an incredibly intense dog that loves nothing more than a job to do. When you cross the Labrador Retriever and the Weimaraner, you get a very high-energy breed that needs lots of space to run. Their mental and physical stimulation is equally important, as this dog is fiercely intelligent and very active. This breed would fare best in situations with lots of room to run and explore. If you have a lot of acreage or a huge fenced-in area, they can work quite well in your living situation. This breed is a bit hyper, taking a very long time to mature. Because of their overabundance of energy, they work best with people who have a highly active lifestyle. These dogs can be highly affectionate with their owners and family members. But primarily, they are bred for work. However, a well-trained cross can be incredibly devoted, loyal, and faithful to their humans. These dogs do not do well with apartment living. So, if you and your family live somewhere that makes it complicated for outdoor activities, you might want to think about getting another breed. Because of their exuberant energy, these dogs work best for children ages 6 and older. Also, the Weimaraner is known for exhibiting a bit of aggression at times. They have too much intensity for younger children and might knock down or hurt a younger child. Even though a Lab is a super exciting, fun breed, the Weimaraner DNA might throw a wrench in the mix when it comes to being a family pet. However, because of the possibility of same-sex or territorial aggression, you should socialize them as early as possible. They have high chasing instincts. There is some speculation that the silver Labrador is in reality a Weimaraner Lab mix. Weimaraners come in three colors — blue, gray, and silver gray. Labs come in three colors — black , chocolate , and yellow. But, there is a rare color variation of Labradors called silver. Silver Labs are, in essence, chocolate Labs with a diluted color gene. The Weimaranar Lab mix has a short, flat coat and floppy ears. Their muzzle is fairly long and slim, and they are pretty leggy too. Labradors tend to be between .They can weigh from lbs. Weimaraners are just a bit taller and heavier. They can be as tall as 27 inches as an adult; females can be as small as 23 inches. Female Weimaraners weigh between lbs, while males weigh between lbs. A Working Background Labrador Retriever ancestors originally come from Newfoundland, where small water dogs pulled in nets and traps full of fish for their owners. Weimaraners they were bred as big-game dogs, but shifting hunting priorities turned the breed into a sought-after bird dog. Although used for slightly different sporting roles, these dogs were both bred to be involved in retrieving game. To do that they needed to be intelligent, strongly bonded to their handlers and able to work cooperatively with them. Weimaraner Labrador Mix Temperament Temperament in mixed breeds is just like appearance — impossible to predict! But looking at the parent breeds can give us a better idea. Both types of dog bark when necessary, so expect an occasional barker. Also, both breeds are active and need exercise to get their energy out. They are easily trained, but must have some stimulation. Weimaraner Lab mix puppies could be high-spirited, like a Lab, or a great runner with plenty of stamina, like a Weimaraner. Most likely, a mix will be friendly and sweet. Still, you should remember that your Weimaraner and Labrador mix can show traits of either parent. Training and Exercise A Lab Weim mix will respond best to positive reinforcement. Harsh, punishment-based methods can cause distrust and stubbornness when training. Training will offer much-needed mental stimulation, but also a little exercise. They are active, energetic dogs who need to run. Whether this is an energetic game of fetch, swimming, or hiking with you. They will be great candidates for dog sports like agility and rally. Destructive behaviors will be reduced by staying fit and busy. Just be wary of over-exercising when they are young, as this can have a negative impact on the health of their joints when they are older. Labs are generally a healthy breed. But they are genetically prone to obesity, vision problems, and certain types of cancers. They are also prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, which are developmental abnormalities in the joints. Large-breed dogs often suffer from these. Weimaraners, too, are a generally healthy breed. But they are also genetically prone to certain conditions, hip and elbow dysplasia, cataracts, dermoids, corneal dystrophy, and distichiasis entropion. If you are buying a puppy from a breeder, ask to see both parents good hip scores and clear eye tests. When you visit a breeder, take note of the conditions of the dogs. What About Rescue? They are usually cheaper than puppies, and are past the awkward first training stages. So, it could take you a while to find a Weimaraner Lab mix suitable for your home. Make sure to ask plenty of questions to find a rescue dog that will suit your home perfectly. If you can, find out why they were taken to the shelter. Also ask questions about their temperament, including how well socialized they are different types of people, animals, and things.
pug puppy love - We have loved Olde English Bulldogges for the past 18 years and when the opportunity finally presented itself, we dove all in. We are a family run kennel, we all contribute from the, not so fun chores of cleaning kennels, to the beautiful whelping experience. We are building and want to leave a legacy for our kids. We focus on health, temperament, athleticism, functionality and bad ass bulldogges that will fit with any family. Before we even consider a dog for our program, they are health tested and temperament tested. Our puppies are raised in a loving environment in our home so that they are well socialized and accustomed to everyday life. They are familiar with loud noises and all the snuggles they can take. Before the puppies leave to their new families, they are started on potty training as well as crate training. We make sure that each puppy is matched with a wonderful family. We enjoy staying in touch with the families that buy from us, they become family, even those who have just chatted with us. We love getting updated pictures and provide help and suggestions for the life of the puppy. We'd love to hear from you and help you with getting your next family member!! Brea, CA I am in the process of adding to our family. I made contact with Ary about 3 years ago. I was intrested n breeding my Fiona with one of his males. Our Fiona had some hip problems and we decided it was not a good idea to have her become a mommy. Ary is not like other individuals that are breeding pups. He is a artery to connecting the right pup to the right family. At least that is what he is doing for us. He is patient, informative and is willing to answer any and all questions. He is the best!! Denna M. In researching, we found Ary and the Olde English breed and could not be happier with the decision to get Bruce. Ary was incredible throughout the process, explaining everything we needed to know about the breed and the process of importing him into Hong Kong. He checked in with us several times before the flight and was in constant contact via text when we went to the airport to pick up Bruce, who arrived a little skeptical of his new surroundings but perfectly healthy and happy. The extent to which Ary cares about every one of the amazing dogs he sells is clear through his attention to detail and willingness to put in any extra effort to make sure his puppies get to, and stay in, good homes. Rich and Elani Hong Kong We adopted Cuddles a little over a year ago, and she has been absolutely amazing! She has fit right in with us, and is just a joy to be around. Thank you Ary for giving us the opportunity to have her. You and your kennel are aces in our book! She is adjusting very well in her new home. I would recommend you to anyone in the market for an OEB. Dustina Gulfport, Mississippi We love our baby Cash! He is pounds and a real joy to have around! I recently adopted her from Ary, and it was great! Ary is so devoted to all of his dogs, he even knows them by their bark! His property is a dog haven, dog runs, kiddie pools, and toys for days! He truly loves what he does. When I heard that Ary had rescued a litter of puppies i had to take a look! I fell in love with them all, as i do with all of his litters! He knows the background of each and every one of his dogs, he is so knowledgeable about the breed and is always there to answer any questions i have about Pepper. I will definitely be getting another bulldogge from Ary in the years to come. Thanks Ary! Jenna S. Iowa LEO is a fantastic dog. We ended up with Ary as he was so helpful in answering all questions over email, he had lovely dogs and was experienced in exporting puppies. Leo arrived on the 28th December and right from go was a happy, well balanced dog. We have an existing male English Bulldog and were worried whether Leo and Tiger would get a long. The are best friends!! Leo is now nearly 9 months old and weighs 32kgs, he is very healthy and gets along with everyone. We just want to say a big thank you to Ary and recommend him to anyone!! Hong Kong Just want to start off by saying: Ari, isnt just a Breeder hes a good guy and now a friend of mine!!!! I bought a puppy from him last feb !!!
