The offspring is known for his loyalty and intelligence. The Boxer cross Weimaraner inherits traits from both the Boxer and the Weimaraner, so the consideration of this dog should include studying the origins of both parent dogs. They were developed for hunting purposes. The aim was to produce a dog with a strong bite that would enable them to catch and keep prey until the owner arrives. During the First World War, Boxers were used as attack dogs, guard dogs, and messenger dogs. They arrived in the USA along with the retuning soldiers who had fallen in love with the breed. Their popularity skyrocketed, and today they are among the most popular dog breeds in the world. Today, the Weimaraner Boxer Mix is a rare mixed breed. So what kind of pooch does the Boxer Weimaraner Mix dog make? The Weimaraner x Boxer will inherit the characteristics of the original breeds. As with all designer dogs, however, the results can vary. They can inherit most of their characteristics from one of the parent breeds or be a good combination of the two. This is true for the Boweimar. Their muzzle should be longer than that of the Boxer. They are also slender and tall. The height and weight of the Boxer Weimaraner Mix will vary for each gender. That means the average male height and weight range is slightly more than the average female height and weight. The average height falls between 22 and 27 inches. The Boweimar weighs around 60 to 85 pounds at maturity. Many of them will also have white spots like the Boxer. They need plenty of exercises to prevent boredom and maintain good behavior. Since Boweimars are prone to separation anxiety, start socializing your puppy early to boost their confidence and get them used to people and other animals. Boweimars are hardworking dogs and make great guard dogs. That means they are alert, brave, intelligent, and loyal canines. Like the parent breeds, they have a lot of energy that should be burned off every day. Discover how to train your Dog by playing games : 21 games to play with your Dog that will make them smarter and better behaved! Guarding Behavior Some people prefer dogs with guard dog or watch dog abilities, while others want a dog that is friendly and calm toward strangers. The Boweimar will make a good watch dog and guard dog because he is brave and protective. If you want a companion dog, the Boxer mixed with Weimaraner is a good choice for you. Their friendly and outgoing nature makes them ideal for families with children. Both Boxers and Weimaraners love kids. They are normally calm and patient with children, especially when socialized early. However, Boxer Weimaraners are best suited for families with older children 6 years old and older and they do need to be watched around smaller kids. Although the Boxer cross Weimaraner is a wonderful dog for families, he is not suitable for homes with cats and other smaller pets. Without proper training and socialization, they can chase small pets that run near them. Yes, Boweimars get along fine with other dogs. As always, introducing your puppy to other dogs will increase the chances that your pup will get along well with other canines. These dogs are not suited to apartment living. They fare best in large, rural homes with specious yards. Moreover, you need to meet their daily exercise needs. The Boxer Weimaraner Mix may be a poor choice for a first-time dog owner. These pups are large and intelligent, so they can be difficult to control if they are not well trained, socialized, and exercised. If you enjoy outdoor activities and are ready to put in the effort to train your dog properly, then the Boweimar could be a suitable pet for you. View this post on Instagram Exercise Needs The Boxer Weimaraner Mix is a high-energy dog that requires a lot of physical activities every day. Boweimars enjoy daily walks, so you need to take them out for walks for at least 90 minutes every day. You should also supplement the walks with outdoor and indoor play with interactive dog toys. Boweimars also enjoy hiking and chasing. In addition to their physical exercise needs, Boweimars also need mental stimulation, so give them a variety of puzzle toys. These dogs need positive reinforcement because they respond poorly to cruel or punishment-based methods. They also respond well to housetraining and clicker training. During training, short, regular sessions are more effective than long, occasional sessions because they might lose interest. Training should start immediately they arrive at home. If you have an issue that you really find yourself struggling with, there is online training help for Boxer Weimaraner mix puppies. Two of the best resources available are Doggy Dan the online dog trainer and the Secrets to Dog Training online program. These sites provide simple, step by step guides that anyone can use at home. There is a range of subjects with accessible solutions. One downside of owning a dog is shedding. Fortunately, the Boxer Weimaraner Mix does not shed heavily. These dogs are considered moderate shedders. Grooming The Boweimar is a low maintenance dog in terms of grooming. Due to their short coat, weekly brushing should suffice. You can use the following grooming tools:. Lifespan Sociability Not many breeders currently specialize in Boweimar puppies. Before looking for a breeder, check the websites of all your local shelters to see if a Boweimar has arrived. When you bring a Boweimar home, be ready to have a friendly and energetic dog by your side. Weimaraners Can Find Anything These short-haired hunters are best known as the preferred hounds of German lords, but their pointing and tracking abilities have been prized all over the world. During the Cold War, when weapons engineers tested missiles, they would send Weimaraners out to gather the exploded parts for later study. Boweimars Are Well-Known Barkers Weimaraners are famous for suffering unusually intense separation anxiety, a trait inherited by their Boweimar descendants. They excel at everything to do with the hunt, from tracking and pointing to chasing and retrieving. As hunters, they have sharp minds that need to be challenged on a daily basis, lest they get bored and destructive. Boxers are in the working category and often serve as guard dogs. This makes them watchful, intelligent, brave, and highly loyal. Like Weimaraners, they have a huge amount of energy that needs to be burned off each day. With traits from such illustrious parents, the Boxer Weimaraner mix will be an absolute champion for your family home. Spirited, smart, and supernaturally loyal, your Boweimar is ready to chase down a ball, play with your kids, and comfort you after a bad day — or do all three in the space of an hour. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Furthermore, more people in the household means more people paying attention to them, which cuts down on separation anxiety. All that said, Boweimars do require a firm hand. Boweimars do much better in houses with other, similarly-sized dogs. Labs and other retrievers in particular make great dog siblings. As always, meeting as puppies will greatly increase the chance that two dogs will get along. Seek out a large dog formula where the first five ingredients are real meat and vegetables. A Boweimar eats about three cups of kibble every day. Since this breed is susceptible to bloat, use a slow feeder to cut down on the risk. Split those miles up into minute daily walks, and supplement those with plenty of indoor and outdoor play with toys. Boweimars take well to chasing and hiking. They also like training for agility and obedience competitions, where they can please their owners while burning off their energy at the same time. They can be difficult to handle, but early housebreaking and socialization training can transform a rambunctious menace into a stalwart family friend. Focus on training your Boweimar to respect your boundaries, handle time apart from you, and keep barking to a minimum if you have neighbors. Brushing them once a week and bathing them once every month or so is sufficient to keep them comfortable. To prevent this, clean their teeth with a toothbrush , and their ears with a damp cotton ball. Keep their nails properly trimmed. Final Thoughts Boxer Weimaraner Mix — History The Boxer Weimaraner mix is a relatively new hybrid dog, only having gained popularity in the last few decades. This mixed breed is created by crossbreeding a purebred Boxer with a purebred Weimaraner. As these two breeds share many common traits and characteristics, they make an excellent pair! The Boxer is a German breed that was originally developed in the late s. This dog was bred for hunting, as they have an excellent sense of smell and are very athletic. The Weimaraner is also a German breed, but it was not created until much later, in the early s. This breed was developed for hunting as well, and they too are known for their keen sense of smell and athletic abilities. When these two parent breeds are combined, you get a hybrid dog that is intelligent, active and has a great sense of smell. The Boxer Weimaraner mix is an excellent choice for families who love to be outdoors and stay active as this dog thrives on regular exercise. On average, a fully-grown Boweimar will weigh between 70 — 80 lbs and stand between 38 and 48 inches in height As this is a mixed breed, there is no guarantee as to which physical traits your dog will inherit from its parents. However, you can expect your Boxer Weimaraner mix to have a short to medium-length coat that is either brindle, fawn, or silver in color. This breed does not shed very heavily, but they will require regular brushing and grooming to keep their coat healthy and looking their best. Boxer Weimaraner Mix — Temperament The Boxer Weimaraner mix, also known as a Boweimar, is a cross between two very different parent breeds of dogs. Boxers are known for being playful and exuberant, while Weimaraners are reserved and aloof. As a result, the temperament of a Boweimar can vary considerably depending on which parent breed they take after. However, in general, these dogs are friendly and good-natured, with a strong desire to please their owners. Boxer Weimaraner Mix — Training Needs This mix breed is a smart and eager-to-please dog, making them relatively easy to train. However, as with all dogs, they will need patience and consistency from their owners. It is important to start training and socialization early with this hybrid breed, as they can be quite stubborn if left to their own devices. Potty Training One of the most important things you will need to teach your Boxer Weimaraner mix is potty training. The best way to potty train your dog is to take them outside frequently, especially after meals and naps. Reward them with treats or praise whenever they go to the bathroom in the appropriate place. If you catch them in the act of going inside, reprimand them firmly and take them outside immediately. With time and patience, your dog will learn where they are supposed to go to the bathroom. Obedience Training Obedience training is another essential for all dogs, regardless of breed. However, it is especially important for high-energy breeds like the Boxer Weimaraner mix. This type of training will teach your dog basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and down. It is important to start obedience training early, as it can be difficult to get a dog to listen to you if they are not used to it. With patience and consistency, you will be able to teach your Boxer Weimaraner mix the basics of obedience and have a well-behaved dog in no time. Socialization Socialization is crucial for all dogs, but it is especially important for Boxer Weimaraner mixes. This breed is known for being quite aloof and reserved, so it is important to expose them to as many different people and animals as possible. The best way to socialize your dog is to take them to puppy classes, the dog park, or on walks around the neighborhood. This will help them get used to being around different people and animals, and make them less likely to be fearful or aggressive in new situations. These dogs need at least an hour of daily exercise and prefer to have two or even three hours if possible. Boxer Weimaraner Mix — Mental Stimulation In addition to physical exercise, the Boxer Weimaraner mix also needs plenty of mental stimulation. These dogs are very intelligent and need to be kept busy in order to avoid boredom. A good way to mentally stimulate your dog is to give them interactive toys that they have to figure out how to use. You can also teach them tricks or sign up for a dog agility class. If you do not provide enough mental stimulation for your dog, it may become destructive or start displaying other undesirable behaviors. This may include excessive barking, digging, or damaging things around the house. Bathing This breed should be bathed as needed, but no more than once a week. Overbathing can strip the natural oils from their skin and coat, leaving them dry and prone to skin problems. When you do bathe your dog, use a gentle, hypoallergenic shampoo to avoid irritation. Brushing The Boxer Weimaraner mix should be brushed at least once a week to remove tangles and knots. It is best to use a slicker brush or a comb with wide teeth to avoid damaging their coat. If you notice your dog shedding excessively, you may need to increase the frequency of brushing to help reduce the amount of hair that is being shed. Ears This breed is prone to ear infections, so it is important to check their ears regularly and clean them as needed. You can use a cotton ball dipped in warm water to gently clean the inside of their ears. If you notice any redness, swelling, or discharge, take your dog to the vet to have their ears checked out. Teeth The Boxer Weimaraner mix should have their teeth brushed at least once a week. This will help prevent tartar buildup and keep their breath fresh. You can use a dog-specific toothbrush and toothpaste, or you can use a gauze pad dipped in baking soda. Boxer Weimaraner Mix — Health Conditions The Boxer Weimaraner mix is a generally healthy breed, but there are some health conditions to be aware of. Hip and elbow dysplasia are hereditary conditions that can cause pain and lameness. Epilepsy is a neurological condition that can cause seizures. These illnesses can be prevented by getting your dog from a reputable breeder who health tests their dogs for these conditions, along with providing regular physical exercise. This mix breed dog is a high-energy breed, so it will need a diet that is high in protein and low in fat. This can be either a commercial dog food or a homemade diet. If you are feeding your dog a commercial diet, make sure to choose one that is designed for active dogs. You can try these options:. Height: 22 inches at the shoulder Weight: 55 - 88 lb. Lifespan: 11 years Boxer Weimaraner Mix - Boweimaraner Personality Like all hybrids, you have to look to the parents to get a good read on how they will likely behave. This could obviously make for a very powerful and strong breed that will have a lot of energy. Both of these parent breeds have higher energy and a very strong prey and drive instincts. They should get along well with other animals if exposed and socialized properly as well. They are somewhat capable of independence, or alone time when the house is noisy or full. She responds well to positive reinforcement, like all dogs. She should be rather affectionate and enjoy spending lots of time with you. However, the one positive thing about getting a puppy is that you can avoid this as much as possible. A breeder should absolutely offer a health guarantee on puppies. A reputable breeder will be honest and open about health problems in the breed and the incidence with which they occur. Health clearances prove that a dog has been tested for and cleared of a particular condition. The Boxer mixed with the Weimaraner might be prone to Cancer, heart problems, hypothyroidism, bloat, deafness, eye problems, patellar luxation, Note that these are just common problems in both breeds. Both of these dogs have rather shorter hair and should be pretty easy to groom. Be prepared to brush them a few times a week. Either way, get ready to invest in a good vacuum if you want to keep your floors clean! Give them baths as needed, but not so much that you dry out their skin. Never tie your dog up outside - that is inhumane and not fair to him. What are the exercise requirements? Plan on taking them for extremely long walks and hikes to keep their energy level down. This exercise will keep them from being destructive. A tired dog is a good dog. A tired dog is a good dog though. What are the training requirements? This is an intelligent dog that will be a little bit challenging to train. They are going to want to take the alpha position and need someone with a firm, strong, hand that can let them know their place. The best thing you can do is break the sessions into shorter daily sessions to keep their attention span higher. It might have a prey drive and be disposed to running for and chasing small prey, but if handled properly this can be managed. All dogs respond best to positive reinforcement. So make sure to praise her when she does well. She is an intelligent dog who loves to please, and loves a physical challenge. The more exercise she gets the easier she will be to train. Proper socialization is imperative to all dogs and puppies. Make sure to take her to the park and doggy day care to get her around as many people and dogs as possible. Each one is unique and has different dietary requirements. Most dogs in the U. A mix like this one that is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia should really be on fish oil and glucosamine and chondroitin supplements as soon as possible. purebred boxer puppies price - Table Of Contents Cutting Dog Nails Cutting dog nails can be turned into a quick and easy task by following these simple steps. Golden retriever dogs who get lots of exercise on cement surfaces may wear their nails down enough with a do-it-yourself dog nail grooming program that they don't even need clipping. But dogs who are older and less active, or who don't spend much time on concrete, will need regular nail care. Dogs should walk silently. If you can hear your dog's nails click against the floor or pavement, it's time for a pedicure. Consequences of Not Cutting Dog Nails A Golden Retriever dog's paw is an arrangement of four flexible, strong toes and five tough pads. A dog that's walking properly should be walking squarely on those pads. If the task of clipping dog nails is neglected and his nails grow too long, the only way the foot can compensate and retain balance is for the toes to spread apart, causing the foot itself to become flattened and spread out. That can eventually destroy the entire structure of the foot, effectively crippling your dog. Neglecting regular nail care can lead to serious dog toenail problems, too. Very long nails can grow back into the dog's pads, causing your dog enormous pain. A dog ingrown toenail is no laughing matter. Clipping dog nails regularly is important because nails that are allowed to become long are also more prone to splitting. Split nails are very painful to your dog, and often require surgical removal of the remainder of the nail to permit proper healing. Golden Retriever Dogs with long nails can have difficulty walking on hard or slick surfaces. Those long nails will also scratch your wooden floors and get caught in carpeting, which can sometimes rip out a toenail ouch! Dewclaw removal for a puppy is sometimes done if he's heading for a career as an active hunting dog. But most Goldens keep their dewclaws, so you'll need to trim them whenever cutting dog nails comes up on your agenda. Since they don't touch the ground, they can never wear down through exercise. Neglected dewclaw nails sometimes grow in complete circles and can even penetrate into the toe pad. The key to trimming dog nails without crushing the nail and leaving ragged edges is to use specially designed dog nail clippers. Dog toenail clippers come in two basic styles. One type has two blades and works like a special pair of scissors pictured on the right. The other style pictured on the left has an oblong opening that the nail fits into and a single blade that cuts the nail when the handle is squeezed. They're called guillotine nail clippers because they make a sharp, clean cut like a guillotine. Either variety works quite well for cutting dog nails. You can also find electric dog nail clippers on the Internet, or possibly at your pet supply store. You can even Dremel dog nails if you'd like try grinding instead of cutting. Each method of cutting dog nails has its pros and cons. When cutting dog nails, you want to trim just the end -- the hook-like part of the nail that turns down. Try to avoid cutting the "quick," the pink area in the center of the nail. This pink interior, called the quick or nail bed, contains blood vessels and nerves. These blood vessels extend about three-fourths of the length of the nail, and are surrounded by the tough nail. If the nails are kept short by frequently cutting dog nails, the tiny veins stay short. If a Golden Retriever dog's nails are allowed to grow uncontrolled, the veins and nerves keep growing. If you've let your dog's nails get much too long, you'll have to shorten them gradually. Carefully clip off just a fraction of an inch every few days. Cutting dog nails gradually like this will allow the veins and nerves to slowly recede. If your Golden Retriever dog's nails are light colored, you'll be able to see the vein when you look at the nail from the side. If your Golden Retriever happens to have a few dark nails, your job is a little tougher. It helps if you hold a flashlight beam directly under the dark nail to help you see the lighter line of the vein when cutting dog nails. If you're still not sure where the quick is, clip just a bit off the tip of the nail. Wait a few days and then clip some more. It's much safer to trim a small amount of nail often, than to take big cuts off neglected nails all at once. Uh oh. Now you've done it. That last little cut nicked the quick, and now the toenail's bleeding. What do you do now? Don't panic, and don't put yourself on a guilt trip. You're probably more upset than your Golden Retriever dog. Most of the time, a minor cut to the quick will stop bleeding on its own. To speed up the process, you can dab a bit of styptic powder on the nail. If that still doesn't stop the bleeding, applying the powder along with some gentle pressure for a few minutes will do the job. That can make trimming dog nails quite an ordeal. The easiest way to get your dog used to having his nails trimmed is by playing with his feet when he's a puppy. Some breeders make it easier for you by clipping their puppies' nails weekly until they go to their new homes. That makes it a cinch for you to keep cutting dog nails on a regular basis, without a fuss. Don't despair. It's never too late! If your dog is fussy about having his nails cut, first handle his feet during your play sessions and even after brushing him. Use lots of praise, and keep these sessions really short. You don't need to handle all four feet each time. Handling just one, with lots of praise, gets the point across. As your dog gets less tense when you handle his feet, help him get used to the nail clippers. Let him smell them, and tell him what a brave dog he is. Don't try to use them yet. After a week of this nice, easy contact, brush your dog, praise him, let him sniff the clippers, and then clip one toenail, cutting off only the sharp point. Praise as you cut, then quit for the day. The next day, do two nails, and two the day after. If this goes well, you may be able to do a whole paw the following day. Praise with each little snip. Reward him at the end with some soothing brushing and a fun game. Maybe it'll take you several pedicure sessions to get them all done, but who cares? Clipping dog nails this way was easy and painless for all concerned. Most groomers and veterinary clinics will be happy to help you out. The small fee they charge is priceless compared to your Golden Retriever's health. Some dog owners prefer to use a nail grinder instead of clippers. Again, these are easy to use by simply slowly grinding down the nail. They may be the preferred choice for people less confident with the sharp and quick motion of the clippers. First things first, get acquainted with what the nail actually looks like and what you need to be aware of. Dummies has a great diagram for what the inside of the nail looks like here. Each claw is made up of the nail itself, which is insensitive and can be trimmed without causing pain, and the sensitive quick that contains the blood supply. Trying to cut a moving target will not end well! Be liberal with treats and praise so they know that this is a good experience and that they have nothing to fear. Start with the nails on the hind legs as these are likely to be less sensitive and should ease your dog into the procedure. Place a very small piece of nail between the clippers and cut from the underneath side. Be quick and smooth in the movement so as not to agitate your dog. A guillotine clipper will cut straight across while you have more freedom to cut how you like with scissor clippers. Immediately tend to the bleeding by applying styptic powder on a cotton swab to cauterize the bleeding. Remember to treat your dog and provide lots of loving attention. Finish the task with a treat and plenty of praise! You May Also Like. Tom Thorpe Blog Trimming the nails of the dogs is an essential part of their grooming routine. Aside from that, you will prevent the occurrence of scratches over your legs and on the surface of your floorings. So, religiously cutting down the nails of the Golden Retriever is a must. But, how will you able to do that if you do not know how to cut Golden Retriever nails? In this blog post, we will have you covered. We will guide you with the step-by-step procedure on the appropriate way of cutting Golden Retriever nails. Here are also some of the tips that you may consider before and during the nail cutting process. Check them all out below! Some dog owners are finding it a hard task, yet it should not be that way. One way of identifying the proper ways on how to cut Golden Retriever nails is to know how frequently do you need to do it. Well, this generally varies from one dog to another. Once the nail grows long — this is only applicable for cutting the nails of the Golden Retriever that always run around hard surfaces. Their nails are being trimmed down and maintained short because of the hard surface. Hearing the clicking of the nails on the ground — once you hear it, automatically, it means that the nails of your Golden Retriever already needs cutting Once every two weeks — perform a frequent regular nail cutting to the Golden Retriever if they usually love to put their paws on soft surfaces or carpets Once a week — do this if you want to intentionally shorten the nails of the Goldens even if they are always running on soft grounds Things to remember when cutting the nails of the Golden Retriever When you do the cutting of the Golden Retriever nails, always keep the following tips in mind: Length of the nails to be cut — the ideal measurement of the nail to be cut is about 2 millimeters of the quick. Quick is the part of the nail that is usually pinkish and located in the middle part. It generally holds the blood supply on the claw area. In case your Goldens has white nails, finding the quick spot is very easy because of the color. However, if you are in doubt, it is better to check or ask your veterinarian or dog groomer whether the nails of your Golden are already long enough and ready for cutting. Moreover, in case you cut one nail or two every day, it is important to keep them in short length. Ways of Cutting the Golden Retriever Nails: Tools to be Used In cutting the nails of the Golden Retriever, you need to be aware that there are types of nail clippers for Golden Retrievers available for use. Using it features great and easy maneuverability and, at the same time, cut Golden Retriever nails without cracking down the toes of your Fido. The appearance of the scissors for dogs looks similar to a pair of pliers. Additionally, scissors nail clippers may also offer excess force required for large dog breeds with bigger and thicker nails. Some pet owners who are cutting the nails of their doggo find it easier to use compared to the scissor type. The cutting of nails using the guillotine nail clipper is actually straight across. Yet, one of the downsides of using this type of nail clipper is that there is more pressure applied over the toe of the dog. In contrast to the scissor-type, the guillotine is highly ideal to cut nails of small to medium-sized dogs. These dogs have nails that fit perfectly and exactly on the clipper hole. Moreover, a guillotine nail clipper is good to use when you opt to clip dewclaws. Primarily, the dog has this wiggly behavior especially when they not used to that kind of routine. So, you have to be very careful with this. Additionally, check on things that you must have to be aware of. Generally, the individual claw of the dogs has the nail part and the quick. Cutting the nail part itself may not really cause any pain. Moreover, there is the quick part which is the sensitive one that contains the supply of the blood. So, cutting the nail of the Golden Retriever in too short length may result in cutting the quick. With that, the Goldens may experience pain and there would also be some bleeding. Because of that incident, your pooch will be scared and might feel threatened on the next nail cutting session. Yet, for me, it would be easier for you to cut Golden Retriever nails after a bath because their nails are softer making them easier to cut. That way, you do not need to exert extra pressure on their toes. Also, it is very important that the dog is calm. Keep in mind that if your dog is constantly moving during nail cutting will not give you a good result. Give it to them as well as praise them every time they make a good move. Moreover, the Goldens will also learn that nail cutting is a good experience and it should not make them threatened. The nails on that part of the dog are less sensitive. Additionally, your Goldens will be prepared and make them at ease with the nail cutting process. Do the cutting from the bottom side. Make sure that your movement is fast and smooth-sailing. This will help to keep away your Goldens from being agitated. It is better to do that most likely if you know exactly where the quick spot is and you want short nails for your Goldens. In case the nail of the Golden Retriever is quite darker or black in color, the best way to cut is straight across. Cut it little by little instead of trying to perform the 45O angle cutting method. STEP 5: After cutting each individual nail, check on it and try to see if you are cutting close to the quick. Moreover, find if dew claw is present and also trim it. Usually, the dewclaw resides in a slightly higher position on the leg and normally attached by loose skin. Dewclaw is easy to find because it does not touch the ground. Apply a styptic powder over a piece of cotton and gently swab it to the bleeding nail. The Difference Grinding of the Golden Retriever Nails Aside from cutting, trimming the nails of the Golden Retriever can also be done through grinding. For us to define the difference between the two here is how grinding the nails of the dog works: Grinding of the Golden Retriever Nails: Based on our discussion above, cutting Golden Retriever nails involves the use of nail clippers. Meanwhile, during grinding, the nail grinder is used. Compared to nail clippers, this nail trimming tool is easier to use as it slowly grinds the nails of the Goldens down. Usually, dog owners who are not confident with the use of the nail clippers prefer to choose the nail grinding method. A slower process of dog nail trimming works best over the dark nails of the dogs. A: Basically, in order to prevent cutting the quick of the dog, you must have to position the cutting blade of the nail clipper facing you. Moreover, place the cutting blade on a distance quite farther from the dogs quick so that you will able to avoid it. A: Generally, when your dog walks over a hard surface like pavements, it will help in shortening the length of its claws. However, dogs walking regularly will not maintain the required short length of their nails. A: Well, if you accidentally cut the quick of the Golden Retriever, the dog will have to bleed, and walking will make them feel uncomfortable. But, that will naturally fade as their nails grow back. A: In case the quick is cut, hurt, and exposed, immediately rush your dog to the veterinarian. The vet will apply antibiotics in ointment form or in powder to the affected nail bed. The injectable or oral form of antibiotic is also recommended to avoid possible infection because the quick is attached to the bone. A: Keep in mind that it is not good to use a nail file for humans in cutting the nails of the Golden Retriever. Final Words Three important points to take into account in cutting Golden Retriever nails, you should take it slowly, avoid the quick, and reward your dog. Moreover, always feel free to cut one nail in a day. That way you and your dog can find the nail cutting process easy and comfortable.

purebred boxer puppies price - Generally, a bowl with a capacity of around 2 to 3 cups is a good size for most adult French Bulldogs. This usually corresponds to a bowl with a diameter of about 7 to 9 inches and a depth of about 2. Some Frenchies might prefer a more shallow bowl though due to their flat faces. What are the key features to look for in a French Bulldog bowl? French Bulldogs are brachycephalic short-nosed dogs, so they can benefit from a shallow, wide dish to make eating easier. Consider non-slip materials to keep the bowl in place while your pet is eating and materials that are easy to clean and maintain. Bowls can be made from various materials including plastic, stainless steel, ceramic, and silicone. Each has its pros and cons. For example, plastic bowls are lightweight and inexpensive but can harbor bacteria in scratches and dents over time. Stainless steel bowls are durable, easy to clean, and often dishwasher safe. Ceramic bowls are heavier, reducing the chance of your pet moving it around, but they can chip or crack. Are raised bowls better for French Bulldogs? Raised bowls can be a good choice for some French Bulldogs, especially those with joint issues or digestive problems as they promote a more natural eating posture. Posted on. For example, elevated bowls that sit on a stand are a smart choice if you have a senior Frenchie that suffers from neck pain. These will put less strain on their bodies and make eating more comfortable. Other options are feeders, which you top off to keep a constant supply of food available. They are prone to obesity as it is, so free-feeding them is a recipe for disaster. It will also help prevent foodborne illnesses, such as salmonella. We recommend the average dog bowl that sits on the floor. One type that you might consider is the so-called slow feeder. Each has its pros and. Popular choices are plastic and stainless steel. But plastic can scratch, leaving gaps where bacteria can collect. This makes it a value purchase. Usability Usability covers two vital aspects: durability and washability. Part of making a product worth the cost is how easy it is to maintain it, especially when washing it. We prefer bowls that are dishwasher-safe. The machine cleans them thoroughly at high enough temperatures to get rid of bacteria and other microbes. We suggest keeping this feature on your radar. This breed is on the small size — the official standard calls for pups less than 28 pounds. Let that be your guide when choosing the appropriate product. Getting one that is too small or too large is a waste of money. Still, size is subjective. A high-protein diet will provide the nutrition that your Frenchie needs in a smaller portion of food. After all, dogs are essentially carnivores. If the serving size is large, the chances are that it contains filler ingredients that offer little nutritional value. Knowing what your dog needs is one of the best ways to make a wise purchase. We suggest checking this spec before buying a bowl for your pet. Some will even portion out the food at set intervals. Other Specs Non-skid feet are a must-have feature with a dog bowl. We all know how excited our pets get at feeding time. They will help prevent your pup from knocking over the bowl and making a mess. Weighted bowls are another option. Color and patterns make little difference to your pup. Those things are to sell you on the product. Its clever design solves many issues that pet owners may have with this breed. We love all the color choices for indulging our pup. The angled design slows eating to prevent digestion issues. The product is easy to clean and made to last. Check out some of our favorite posts:. Cats, Shih Tzus, and similar breeds Medium - Intended for dogs between 20 - 55lbs, capable of holding 1 - 2. English Bulldog I'll be the first to say I was skeptical. Every boxer I have had always takes a mouth full of kibble and drops all over the floor. The price and cost of shipping are a bit much but well worth it. My boxer no longer drops kibble everywhere and eats her food much slower than before and is clean. Torie L. Boxer I love this bowl and wish I had this years ago! My pug eats so much better now without choking on his food. I also highly recommend getting the stand with it, especially for older dogs. Rammy is 12 and has developed some arthritis in his spine. It makes my heart happy to see him eat without having to curve his spine to reach his food on the floor. Collin J. Outward Hound Super Design With our list complete, it was time to go shopping. Each flat-faced dog bowl featured in our review was purchased from Amazon. Yep, at DogLab, we buy every product at the same price you would pay. Once our flat-faced dog bowls were delivered, it was time to test them! How did we test the flat-faced dog bowls? At DogLab, we only recommend products that we would give to our own pups. To find the number one flat-faced dog bowl we tested for the following: Durability — How did the bowl hold up to rough dogs? Movability — How easy was it to flip the bowl or push it around during feeding? Suitability — Was the bowl easy-to-use for different breeds and sizes of dogs? Ease of cleaning — How easy was each bowl to clean? Improvement — Was their noticeable improvement in feeding when compared to a traditional dog bowl? Each of these factors contributed to which bowls we recommend. Our top picks excel in all of these areas. Our testing observations While testing the qualities listed above, we made some observations that are worth mentioning. But if you have one on hand, then you may decide to use it. Ordinarily, Harper is a delicate and refined eater. And not just a small mess. Her meal went everywhere. I was surprised at just how much of a mess was actually made! If you have a couple of dogs, and not all are flat-faced, buy each their own bowl. Flat-faced bowls are for kibble only Sorry wet and raw feeders. Flat-faced dog bowls are not going to help your pooch. Every single bowl we reviewed failed the wet food test. The biggest problem is that none of these bowls are weighted. Wet food transformed our pups from Bulldogs into bulldozers. They smooshed their faces against the bowl and pushed it all around the room. Placing the bowl against a wall cut down on the movement but not the mess. The reason? Flat-faced dog bowls rely on easy access as a way to stop both mess and movement. No flat-faced bowl was weighted. Even with a no-skid rubber base, our pups had little difficulty sliding the bowls around when they were in a head-butting contest with their meal. If you are looking for a weighted bowl, ceramic is really your only choice. Goofy dogs can outsmart flat-faced dog bowls This point is only really true of slanted dog bowls, those where the rear is higher than the front — like the picture above. Bowls with this design only work if your dog approaches it from the front. Most dogs do this instinctively. When this happened, our dogs figured out something was wrong and repositioned themselves to the front of the bowl. All except one. Whatever direction our Pug started eating from, she remained there until she finished her meal. When she ate from the back, she huffed and wheezed the entire way through her meal. Even worse, kibble flew all over the place as she pushed it over the low front lip of the bowl. If your pup is more excited about eating than comfort, then I have a solution for you. Press the back of the bowl hard against the wall. This way, our Pug could only approach from the front. Problem solved! Meet our team of flat-faced testers At DogLab, reviews are important. As a result, we put products to the test. We assembled a team of flat-faced testers to interact with, observe and rate how well each bowl performed. Where possible, we source testers from Fetch A Friend Rescue , a rescue organization that takes in dogs from local shelters that would otherwise be put down, giving them a second chance to find a forever home. If you live in Upstate New York and are looking for a four-legged family friend, check them out! Let me introduce the testers… 1. While you may not be able to tell, this is her happy face. While Olivia loves the outdoors, her enthusiasm only extends for half of a walk to the local dog park. Her aggressive eating style really put the flat-faced dog bowls to the test. Jasmine Breed: Pug Jasmine is an adorable, chubby Pug that has perfected the art of begging. She can hear a bag of Doritos opening from half a mile away. Before you have the first tortilla chip to your mouth, she magically appears at your feet, staring at you with her goofy grin. Jasmine is a messy eater and ordinarily uses a traditional dog bowl. She benchmarked whether or not using a flat-faced dog bowl improved feeding. Barney Breed: Shih Tzu Barney is currently the oldest of our flat-faced testers. At 10 years old, he considers himself a guard dog and refuses to wander more than 6 feet from his owner and growls intimidatingly at strangers. However, once introduced, he will happily accept all the belly rubs you can give. His cute underbite got quite a work out as he tested the various flat-faced dog bowls. Champ Breed: American Bulldog mix Due to the need for flat-faced testers, Champ is the only rescue dog featured in this guide. Champ had a sad start to his life. He spent his first two years chained up in a yard, exposed to harsh weather. He is a loveable ball of muscle that prefers to communicate through cute grunting noises rather than barks. Champ plays rough and was perfect for observing the durability of our flat-faced bowls — he managed to break one during our tests! Good news! Champ has been adopted. Other times, the majority of the products we review perform poorly. In the case of dog bowls for flat-faced dogs, it was both. With such slim pickings, we can only confidently recommend two flat-faced dog bowls. One is a clear winner for most dogs, and the other is a travel-friendly option. Best all-around flat-faced dog bowl Best All-Arounder! Pin 0 Shares Anybody who owns a Frenchie will know how motivated they are by their stomachs. However, this can cause them issues such as flatulence, bloating, and choking… some of which can be reduced just by using a specialist French Bulldog food bowl. Why do French Bulldogs need special bowls? Let me explain… As a brachycephalic breed with flat faces and shortened necks, Frenchies can struggle to eat and drink from standard dog bowls. If they end up eating too fast, they are prone to bloating and possibly even choking. This can be exacerbated with the wrong type of French Bulldog food and water bowl that lets your Frenchie chew, swallow, and drink too fast. If you scroll down you will see my choices on the best food bowl for a French Bulldog, but first let me explain why I recommend what I do. What food bowls to avoid with your Frenchie I am not a fan of plastic food bowls for a number of reasons. Firstly, they scratch easily, and bacteria can form in the scratches on the plastic and be very hard to remove, even with cleaning. This presents a potential health hazard to your Frenchie, as does the possibility that your dog could also have an allergic reaction to plastic. What is the best material for a French Bulldog food bowl? The best French Bulldog food bowl will be made from stainless steel. I like bowls that are scratch resistant, simple to clean, and harder to tip over if trodden on by your Frenchie. Dishwasher safe and sturdy, I like stainless steel food bowls with rubber underneath, so they stay put when your Frenchie is eating and drinking. What size bowl do I get for my French Bulldog? We have a large stainless-steel bowl for drinking water which we change every day, and a slighter small food bowl. There is one consideration here though; if you have a large feeding bowl you might be tempted to put too much food in it, and over-feed your Frenchie. Handy Hint: The most important aspect is feeding your Frenchie the right amount of food. How high should the food bowl be off the ground? And lastly, many Frenchie owners say you should use elevated feeding bowls that are high off the ground to avoid bloat. This opinion appears to be changing in recent years, with this interesting statement found on the DailyPuppy. Studies have shown, however, that raised food bowls do just the opposite. These feeders can make your pet more vulnerable to bloat, says veterinarian Jon Rappaport and other experts. Basic slow feeding bowl This stainless-steel slow feeder is ideal for Frenchies. This stops them from eating their food too quickly, or in too large a gulp, therefore helping to prevent choking or bloating. When we introduced this food bowl to our Frenchie, we noticed his vomiting reduced. Before he would probably be sick once a week because he was eating too fast. Slanted mess-free dog bowl An alternative French Bulldog food bowl is a slanted model. Admittedly it is slightly off the ground, but not high enough to cause any issues. The primary reason for the design is to alleviate neck pressure on your Frenchie and make eating not as messy! Stainless-steel water bowl And finally, you will need a separate bowl for the water. I recommend a French Bulldog water bowl that is 2 to 3 times larger than the food bowl, and the water should be replaced daily with clean and fresh. Conclusion Frenchies should have their own feeding and water bowls, rather than just an afterthought like an old dish or cereal bowl you no longer need. Whilst it might be tempting to buy a food bowl for your Frenchie that looks fun and funky, with bowls, functionality always has to beat out form. But their flat faces, characteristic of brachycephalic breeds, can make meal times challenging. If you're a proud parent of a Frenchie, you've probably wondered, "What's the best bowl for French Bulldogs? Their endearing personality, coupled with a distinctive bat-like ear structure and flat faces, contributes to their allure. However, these physical features, attractive as they may be, can lead to certain challenges during mealtime. Their brachycephalic nature, which refers to their shorter snouts and broader jaws, often makes it hard for them to eat from standard dog bowls. The need to reach for food at the bottom of the bowl can cause French Bulldogs to assume uncomfortable positions, leading to rapid, messy eating and even increased air intake. With these challenges in mind, it's clear that the choice of a suitable bowl is critical in ensuring the health and comfort of your Frenchie. The bowl's shape, size, depth, and height should accommodate the breed's unique facial and body structure. It should be deep enough to fit the broad snout, yet not so deep that your Frenchie has to strain their neck or lean too far into the bowl. A good French Bulldog bowl should also promote slower eating to prevent rapid ingestion and excessive air intake. Furthermore, for those Frenchies dealing with IVDD, an elevated bowl can go a long way in making mealtime less painful and more enjoyable. French Bulldogs are brachycephalic dogs that come with special health precautions. Take the Frisco Silicone Collapsible Travel Bowl with you to make sure your pup stays hydrated and fed, especially in extreme temperatures. Since silicone is a BPA-free, non-slip material, you might even decide to switch to this one for every meal. It comes in a 1. French Bulldogs have adorable snub noses which look cute on Instagram, but can make digging out of a deep bowl a difficult task. Knowing this, we also tried to veer away from large capacity bowls to prevent overfeeding. Slow-feeding Bowls Not every dog needs a puzzle bowl, but your Frenchie might benefit from a slow-feeding bowl if they eat too fast or need to lose some weight. Talk to your veterinarian about how much you should be feeding your Frenchie each day to make sure they maintain a healthy weight and balanced diet. Image Credit: Karsten Winegeart, Unsplash Material We prefer ceramic or stainless steel over plastic for durability and health reasons. However, no material is perfect. For example, stainless steel is easy to clean and generally lasts longer than plastic but may contain trace amounts of lead. Always look at the product description or packaging before popping any bowl into the dishwasher or microwave just to be safe. Just beware that some are top-rack only and might melt on the lower shelf. If you want an extra hand in keeping your kitchen clean, you might try the Neater Feeder since it has an elevated platform that retains crumbs. Conclusion As our overall best choice, the Frisco Slanted Stainless Steel Bowl gives your Frenchie the best support by tilting the food at an angle more suitable for their adorable snub noses. The Loving Pets Bella Non-Skid Stainless-Steel bowls are crafted out of high-quality steel that can go into the dishwasher, which makes it our best value choice for both time and money. In general, a low-capacity bowl works best for Frenchies. All of the other design options are there to help you serve up food for your Frenchie in the best way that suits you both. She graduated from University of North Georgia with a B. Currently she lives in New Orleans, Louisiana, with her husband and four pets. Read more Advertisement. These pups have a unique body shape and size that can make it difficult for them to comfortably eat and drink from traditional dog bowls. Half of her food ends up on the floor. So, I wanted to look for something with a tray or something that catches or prevents the fall-out food. Her bowl would also get tipped over on its side after she finished eating. She is wild. My criteria for the bowls this time was mainly for Fira. Fira is the complicated one. Weston also has a bit of a longer snout than Fira, making it easier for him to reach his food. So, Fira needed a bowl that would be suitable for her non-existent snout and easy for clean-up. She needed something that would stay put on the floor, help prevent regurgitating and look good in the kitchen. Here are the 9 bowls I picked up for my French Bulldogs: Hint: Scroll down to the end of this post to find my 1 choice for dog food bowl. The bowls are really shallow and wide, so it helps small-snout and squishy-face dogs get into the bowl better. These are perfect for a neat eater aka: Weston! The tray around the bowl was littered with fallen food right away. Not sure how but it ended up ripping, so we had to throw it out, but I included it on this list as a good bowl for French bulldogs. Ceramics Raised Bowl : The design of this bowl is really nice, very modern and a cool shape. I could see this really as a nice accent piece in a contemporary kitchen. Wide Ceramic Dog Bowl : Super pretty dog bowl made of solid ceramic. This bowl is super wide and is taller at the back, which I thought would work for Fira. I think it was too large and the food got stuck at the back and top edges. So maybe not the best French Bulldog food bowl for Fira. But I think if your dog eats dry food or is bigger, this dog bowl is a decent choice! Slow Feeder Bowl : if your dog eats super fast, like Fira does, a dog bowl for fast eaters is a smart option. A slow bowl is great as it forces your French Bulldog to work around the bowl and gives them time to chew and digest — and not inhale their food. It makes eating meals a bit slower for Fira. Even though I found a solution for this bowl, I found it too cumbersome and a few too many added steps for her meal time. Love the slanted feature and Fira had a much better time eating without a huge mess. Elevated bowls are really beneficial for French Bulldogs, as it helps them swallow their food down better without regurgitating it up. This tilted dog bowl also came with silicone grips to stick onto the bottom of the wooden legs — nice! Sturdy grip on the bottom, large area for their face to move around and at an elevated angle. This is my 1 choice. Stainless steel dog bowls are not only durable and easy to clean, but they also have the added benefit of being bacteria-resistant. Unlike other materials such as plastic, which can develop scratches and grooves over time that can harbor bacteria, stainless steel is non-porous and smooth. There you have it — the best bowls for French Bulldogs so far. Hope you enjoyed it! If you have any recommendations, please add them in the comments! Related Posts.
