A cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle, the Labradoodle is an intelligent and friendly breed. They love nothing more than to be around their family. The Labradoodle combines the energy of the Labrador Retriever with the strong work ethic and intelligence of the Poodle. They do have a desire to please so training is not overly difficult but early training is necessary. The Labradoodle gets along well with everyone, from other dogs and pets to children — though their size may be a bit problematic for smaller children. They enjoy hanging out with you on the couch but can easily transition to playful and energetic. Though they will bark when a stranger is near, they will not make a good guard dog due to their friendly nature. Overall, the Labradoodle is a great pet for first-time owners thanks to their friendly nature and easy trainability. We are so grateful that we are able to help you rescue the dog of your dreams. We love dogs - plain and simple. We really love a lot of stuff. We love our family, we love the mountains, we love meeting new people, we love art, we love photography, we love the truth and we love life. Speaking of the truth. Therefore, there is a need for people like ourselves that already have a dog-seeking site to help facilitate wonderful animals finding a home. If you're reading this and wondering if there is another reason then just our love of animals for rescuing. Well, yes there is. We are breeders. Despite any bad press, breeders are part of the solution to neglected animals. We don't have puppies for fun or accident, that we hope our family, friends, or people at our local grocery store will take off our hands. We are the opposite of that. We spend most of our time speaking, emailing and texting families that are looking for a pet. We educate them, screen them for pet adoption, and support them once they do adopt. We are being responsible for the types of dogs we are breeding by selecting healthy, gentle, intelligent parents for our puppies. Our entire life is finding better ways to be good breeders and helping our families be good pet owners. With all this in mind, we believe that offering rescuing services will ensure none of our puppies we've placed in the world will ever end up in a kill shelter. We want to be the kind of breeder that supports our families for life. As a result, our families can call us and say they just can't keep their pet, for whatever reason, and we will come and get the dog. The first thing we do is have the owner explain everything about the pet they are giving up. We then bring that dog into our home and evaluate it's condition and get a game plan and timeline for finding it's new home. We are committed to keeping that dog for weeks or months until it's ready for adoption. We put that dog on our dog schedule; we do additional training; we crate train in our home; we have it sleep in our room at night for it to bond with us and see that this is it's home, and we bring it around town to socialize, socialize, socialize. Once that dog is ready to be adopted we post photos, a description, or both on our site and in advertising. Now, this rescuing isn't something new for us. As a child, I brought every stray animal home and nurtured it back to health and found it a home. I remember in college finding a stray dog with puppies behind our apartment complex with less than five dollars till the end of the week and no gas in my car. So, I asked a friend for a ride to the grocery store and posted a sign that I found a stray dog with puppies on the community board with my phone number. Next, I stood in the pet food isle and asked people if they would mind contributing a dollar so I could feed this skinny mommy so she could make milk for her puppies. A mean guy said he would get me a garbage bag to just dump them into. Well, I started balling. When he said that I freaked out that someone could even think that. I felt broken seeing this malnourished dog struggling with her puppies. I saw a person in there, a mom. Needless to say the man felt so bad when he saw me fall to pieces he handed me a twenty dollar bill. As I kept crying I thanked him and got food and some milk. I didn't know then that milk probably wasn't the best for this mommy dog. When I got back to my apartment I snuck the dog in and fed it warm milk and made a home for her and her puppies. No animals were allowed at our complex. Two of the puppies didn't make it and I was devastated. A friend came over and the mommy dog barked and really got protective so I really was getting stressed out about having this dog but I just couldn't put her outside. Luckily, a wonderful, beautiful lady called me that was a rescuer. She understood I was just a poor college student with limited resources. Two days later she arrived to pick up this dog. She said she would have the dog at her ranch until it was in better health then she would find it a home. Around a month later I received photos in the mail. The mommy stray and her three puppies found homes. One other thing, my apartment suddenly had flees and I had very upset roommates.Through this experience I learned a very important lesson, I could do something about another living thing struggling. I may have needed some financial help but all I had to do was ask. It's a fact that working together, placing an ad, asking for a donation, and doing the best I could do was good enough and that work helped get those dogs a home. Miracles happen, they really do. We are on some doodle rescue lists and many vets and shelters have our number. Many of our rescues have come from word of mouth. When we receive a rescue we do quarantine them from our doodles for a minimum of three weeks then do thorough testing for diseases before they come to our home. We typically work with a rescue for three to six months or as long as it takes. Next, is our re-homed doodles. Per our contract, we require all our adopting families, that can no longer care for their doodle, to return them to us for placement. A doodle can be returned for numerous reasons but in most cases that doodle is just too much for their adopting family. As a result, we occasionally have doodles available as re-homes. We always get a second and third opinion from outside trainers and behaviorists with every incoming dog. These evaluations are very informal and are more for the safety of our family and our doodles. We do not provide extensive reports, clinical diagnosis or professional evaluations. Instead, we use all the information we've collected and we work with each doodle until we can see they are ready for their forever home. Each of the doodles we offer are dogs I can and would live with myself. Now, I've been bitten numerous times, I've always had dogs, I've always rescued dogs and I'm quite experienced with dogs. With that said, I do not believe rescues or re-homes are appropriate for families with children and I prefer dogs with questionable pasts to go to families that are experienced with owning a dog. Please do not consider a rescued or re-homed doodle for the cost savings alone. Instead, consider a rescue or re-home for all the other wonderful benefits and perks of adopting an older dog. All of our rescues come with a contract, worming medication, blanket, 10 days of food, probiotics, toy, chew toy, tooth brush, microchip with lifetime membership in most cases, current vaccines, spayed or neutered, all the health records in our possession, life-time of support and small adoption fee. Past rescues and re-homes have ranged from to depending on many factors like costs incurred, age, training, desirable traits and expenses incurred to make them forever-home ready. The Australian Labradoodle can be made up of three breeds, which is unlike any other crossbreeds that has two different purebred parents. Or if the result is from the continuous breeding of Labradoodles. Continuous breeding simply means that you would have to cross two Labradoodles who both have Labradoodle parents. Once those puppies are full-grown, you have to complete that process five times, five generations. Then you will get Australian Labradoodle puppies, which are a multigenerational crossbreed. Vocality level 3 in 5 Disclaimer: While the characteristics mentioned here may frequently represent this breed, dogs are individuals whose personalities and appearances will vary. Please consult the adoption organization for details on a specific pet. They are generally very friendly and are an ideal best friend. Labradoodles are very playful and have a high energy level. Long walks, hiking or jogging will definitely be a part of your future life as dog-parent to a Labradoodle. These dogs tend to do well with children in the home, but sometimes are better suited for older kids since they could knock smaller family members over with their size and exuberance. Are you looking for a dog park buddy? The Labradoodle could be the perfect match for you! They usually like to play with other dogs, so a good romp with some canine friends is ideal for them, with proper oversight and introductions. They would be a good choice if you have other pets in the home, given their general good nature. Still, cautious introductions of new pets are always a must! Labradoodles usually want to please their parents, so can be easily trained with positive methods. Upkeep Labradoodles have a lot of energy to burn! You should expect to dedicate at least minutes per day to giving your Labradoodle an outlet for their energy, whether in the form of a structured walk, playing in the yard with them, training, or a trip to the dog park to socialize. Their enthusiasm could easily turn to destructive behavior if not given this outlet. They would do best in a home with a fenced yard, so this energetic dog may not be the best option if you have a low-energy apartment life. Grooming needs will vary, depending on whether your Labradoodle inherits smoother or curlier fur from the Labrador and Poodle breeds. You can expect to devote some time each week to regular brushing and bathing, but some may require a trip to a professional groomer every weeks.

This dog was normally kept for his prowess as a hunting dog and was also a good fighter. The Boxer was also kept because he was a great working dog and assisted the soldiers during the World Wars. Generally speaking, the Boxer was also very playful, not very aggressive but very loyal to its owner. If your Jack Russell Boxer Mix gets some of his traits from the Boxer, he will be a great companion and protector of your children. He acquired a tiny female Terrier in and made it the foundation of his breeding plan, which resulted in the present-day Jack Russell Terrier. John standardized his dogs to be white and effective in hunting foxes. The modern Jack Russell Terrier is normally white in color with brown patches. He has a strong body measuring 10 to 15 inches in height. He weighs around 14 to 18 pounds. These dogs tend to be tough and courageous. They have a great stamina, and also show a great sense of independence. However, they are also loyal and easy going around people. Both the Boxer and the Jack Russell are breeds that are strong and powerful. They have a very strong prey instinct as well. If you socialize the Jack Russell Boxer Mix puppy well , he is likely to get along well with other animals and new people he encounters. Jack Russell Terrier Boxer Mix puppies are capable of being independent and love to have their own alone time when it is a full house. Like all other dogs, this breed also responds very well to positive reinforcement. They are generally social and have a very warm temperament. Boston Boxer Highlights Boston Boxers are mixed breed dogs. They are not purebreds like their Boston Terrier or Boxer parents. The main colors of Boston Boxers are black, brown, fawn, blue, and white. Sometimes their coats are solid, and sometimes they have a mix of colors, like in a pied or brindle pattern. Boston Boxers are known to be a good choice for families with children. Always supervise playtime. The Boston Boxer is a highly energetic mixed breed. If left alone for too long or without any sort of stimulation, this energy can manifest in unwanted destructive behaviors. Make sure your dog gets at least one good half-hour- to hour-long walk per day with a few good, active play sessions and shorter walks mixed in. When it comes to other pets, Boston Boxers can get along with other animals if they are introduced slowly and calmly, and early socialization will help this go smoothly. Boston Boxer History The Boston Boxer mixed dog breed may have existed naturally over the years, but designer breeders started intentionally mixing Boston Terriers and Boxers in the late s, likely in North America. Breeders wanted to mix the two parent breeds to keep the friendly and energetic spirit of the Boxer but in a smaller, Boston Terrier size. They continued to create Boston Boxers as demand for the mixed breed pups climbed. Even though the Boston Boxer got their start as a designer breed, some have ended up in shelters or in the care of rescue groups. Consider adoption if you decide the Boston Boxer is the dog for you. Be sure to check your local shelters, look up Boston Boxer or Miniature Boxer rescues, or check with breed-specific Boxer or Boston Terrier rescues, as they sometimes take in mixed breed dogs and find homes for them. Boston Boxer Size Since the Boston Boxer is a relatively new mixed breed, there are few standards when it comes to size. That said, as a mix between Boston Terrier and Boxer parents, you can expect your Boston Boxer to be on the small-to-medium size. Most weigh in at 22 to 55 pounds and range in height from 15 to 23 inches from the shoulder. However, many can be larger or smaller than average. The Mini Boxer can be somewhat hesitant around strangers, which is why it is very important to socialize your Boston Boxer as early as possible to make sure they are people-friendly. These dogs are prone to attaching to one particular family member, and they can become somewhat protective of them. Even with their protective tendencies, most Boston Boxer enthusiasts say their dogs are complete goofballs. The Boston Boxer is also a highly energetic mixed breed, so they are best-suited with people who can keep up with the pace. Some of the more common health problems Boston Boxer suffer from include: heart murmurs. Lifespan Sociability Boston Boxer dogs are very popular, resulting in many breeders. We recommend searching for as many as possible to find the perfect puppy before you make your decision. Always ask a breeder to show you the facilities before making any payment. In many cases, you can find a breeder that is willing to sell you a puppy at a reduced cost, but we must caution against prices that are too good to be true, as unscrupulous breeders often create these puppies in unsafe environments known as puppy mills. The best way to fight puppy mills is not to buy their puppies. You can always ask your local shelter if they have a Boxer mix that resembles the Boston Boxer. They are athletic and can run fast and jump quite high and will maintain a fast pace for extended play sessions before tiring. They quickly become attached and protective of their owners and are wary of strangers who might cause them to become aggressive and bark. However, they generally get along with other household pets and small yard animals like bunnies and squirrels. Boston Boxers are sensitive to their environment and prefer a set, predictable schedule, and they can be stubborn if you change things up too quickly. They are very intelligent and easy to train, as long as they think they are in charge. They love the company and will remain at your side most of the day. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are very friendly, energetic, and playful. They get along well with pets including, cats and other dogs. They like to play with children and will provide each other with unlimited amounts of entertainment. Boston Boxers are intelligent enough to follow orders and behave and will even learn tricks and guard the house while you are away. They will require at least one family member to take them out for long walks, though, and these are high maintenance in the exercise department, requiring at least one hour of running and jumping each day. If you live in the city, it can be challenging to find enough room, and you will likely require access to a park or trail. They are even more friendly if you socialize them early and get them used to other animals, but even so, this breed rarely gets aggressive toward another animal. This food should be high-quality without any harmful chemicals or preservatives. High-quality dog food will contain meat, vegetables, grains, and fruits, according to the American Kennel Club. You can expect to take your Boston Boxer for a long walk every day, and on some days, you may need a second walk. You can expect to walk at least eight miles a week spread out over about an hour a day, every day, for the next several years when purchasing a Boston Boxer. In most cases, you will only require patience and a bunch of treats to have your Boston Boxer impressing your friends. To train your pet, simply stand in front of them with a treat ready. Boston Boxers are smart and will know you have it. When they figure it out and sit, give them a treat. Stand them back up and repeat. After several tries, your Boston Boxer will catch on and quickly sit on command. Using the above system, you can teach your dog plenty of tricks, like shaking hands, fetch, rollover, and plenty of others. You can even teach them more complex tricks like retrieving the newspaper with a little practice. They only require occasional brushing and trimming of their nails. But there are a few problems associated with them that you should know about before you make a purchase. Minor Conditions.

If you live in Connecticut and you are looking for the perfect dog to be your pet, the Golden Retriever is an easy recommendation. They remain as one of the most popular dog breeds not just in CT, but in the entire country due to a number of reasons. The breed is known to be expressive and trustworthy, making them suitable as family dogs despite being a slightly large breed. Their bark is also more welcoming than threatening. You can get any golden retriever and just enroll him in our obedience classes. Large and athletic — their large build and boundless energy make them ideal companions to people who want a dog to play around with and accompany on walks. Friendly to other animals — if you have other pet dogs and other pet animals, a golden retriever will not be too much trouble as they can coexist with other pets, and will take kindly to other animals and young kids. Different Colors of Golden Retrievers People who want to buy a golden retriever will be able to choose between different colors of coat. The most common ones are English cream, but there are also red light or dark , Irish cream, white, brown, mahogany, and dark colored. Their coat will also come in different types. You will find retrievers who have a short hair, ones that have long hair, and many who have fluffy coats, making them look extremely cute and huggable not to mention much larger than they really are. Types of Golden Retrievers There are different types of golden retrievers. Their common traits tend to be their large, strong bodies and dense, wavy coat. But they have a long history of pedigree breeding and so have been segmented into different regional variations. There are three common types, each with their own distinctive characteristics. British This type is very common throughout Europe, particularly in Austria. Out of the three major types of the breed, the British ones are the biggest because they have been bred to have broader skulls and more balanced, muscular bodies. Out of all the three major types, the British Golden Retrievers are the closest to their origins as hunting and gun dogs because of their large musculature and great endurance. American This type is leaner and less muscular than the other types, with coat that take on much darker colors that feather really well. The American golden retrievers are well sought because of their distinct walking patterns, which tend to take on a free, smooth, and powerful trot due to the fact that their feet have a tendency to converge towards the center of their line of balance. While they tend to be of the same size as Canadian types, they tend to look taller due to their leaner musculature and straighter stance, not to mention the coat that tends to hug the body better. Considerations for Owning a Golden Retriever Owning a dog is a big responsibility, and is not something that should be taken as lightly as one would when it comes to buying an appliance or a toy. Golden retrievers are very loyal, loving, and fun to be around, but they have specific needs and quirks that you need to consider before buying one. You Need to Have the Room If you live in a small shack with narrow spaces and lots of tight corners to bump into, you may want to think twice because goldens are medium to large-sized dogs that can have as much as 24 inches at the shoulder and could grow as heavy as 75 pounds. They have very active tails that can easily sweep cups or vases off tables when excited. You will have to ensure that your house is uncluttered if you want a golden in your life. You Have to Be Physically Active as Well These dogs were originally bred for hunting and sports, so they tend to have a lot of stamina and will require at least 20 to 30 minutes of consistent exercise daily. They are susceptible to depression and separation anxiety if left alone all day, so make sure you are able to make yourself or a family member present for her at least every 5 hours. Hide Your Shoes Goldens are excessively playful, and they have been bred to carry things with their mouth. This results in a breed that will chew on just about anything that they can clamp their mouths to — shoes being the most common. So if you are planning to own a Golden, you have to keep your shoes, telephones, game consoles, pillows, toys out of reach. Neutering Can Pose Health Risks to a Golden Experts at the University of California have conducted research that point to neutering having negative effects on the health of a Golden Retriever. Some of the likely complications include increased risk of getting joint disorders and cancer. So if you want a golden and want to prevent it from breeding, you have to consider alternative methods such as tubal ligation or vasectomy. Health Risks for Goldens As with most large breeds, there are specific health concerns that you need to be wary of. They are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as eye disorders. Goldens are too nice to be guard dogs. They may growl and bark protectively, but an intruder has a chance of pacifying them because they are just that nice. Really Good Reasons to Own a Goldie Despite the somewhat lengthy, detailed list of concerns above, a golden retriever is still one of the most recommended dog breeds for Connecticut families due to a number of reasons: Safe Around Kids — The part about not being aggressive enough to be a guard dog? Kids that young are never to be left alone, dog or no dog. Perpetually Clingy — this type of dog is perfect for people who want something to hug and cuddle with regularly. They are eternal puppies who will always love to run to your arms and greet you with a hug. They can adapt well to the presence of other people and animals, including cats, rabbits, and other animals that normally pick fights with dogs. Very Smart — they are not going to help you do taxes anytime soon, but as far as dogs are concerned golden retrievers are very smart. Being bred to hunt and retrieve, they can be easily trained to do basic dog-related tasks and tricks. They can be trained to serve as companions to limited-ability pet owners. It should be easy to know if a Golden Retriever will find a place in your home, based on the pros and cons outlined above. One important thing to remember is that all dogs, regardless of breed, will require attention, care, and love from their owner. If you can provide those, then the rest will naturally follow and you should be able to spend many exciting years with your pet. Tom Thorpe Blog Trimming the nails of the dogs is an essential part of their grooming routine. Aside from that, you will prevent the occurrence of scratches over your legs and on the surface of your floorings. So, religiously cutting down the nails of the Golden Retriever is a must. But, how will you able to do that if you do not know how to cut Golden Retriever nails? In this blog post, we will have you covered. We will guide you with the step-by-step procedure on the appropriate way of cutting Golden Retriever nails. Here are also some of the tips that you may consider before and during the nail cutting process. Check them all out below! Some dog owners are finding it a hard task, yet it should not be that way. One way of identifying the proper ways on how to cut Golden Retriever nails is to know how frequently do you need to do it. Well, this generally varies from one dog to another. Once the nail grows long — this is only applicable for cutting the nails of the Golden Retriever that always run around hard surfaces. Their nails are being trimmed down and maintained short because of the hard surface. Hearing the clicking of the nails on the ground — once you hear it, automatically, it means that the nails of your Golden Retriever already needs cutting Once every two weeks — perform a frequent regular nail cutting to the Golden Retriever if they usually love to put their paws on soft surfaces or carpets Once a week — do this if you want to intentionally shorten the nails of the Goldens even if they are always running on soft grounds Things to remember when cutting the nails of the Golden Retriever When you do the cutting of the Golden Retriever nails, always keep the following tips in mind: Length of the nails to be cut — the ideal measurement of the nail to be cut is about 2 millimeters of the quick. Quick is the part of the nail that is usually pinkish and located in the middle part. It generally holds the blood supply on the claw area. In case your Goldens has white nails, finding the quick spot is very easy because of the color. However, if you are in doubt, it is better to check or ask your veterinarian or dog groomer whether the nails of your Golden are already long enough and ready for cutting. Moreover, in case you cut one nail or two every day, it is important to keep them in short length. Ways of Cutting the Golden Retriever Nails: Tools to be Used In cutting the nails of the Golden Retriever, you need to be aware that there are types of nail clippers for Golden Retrievers available for use. Using it features great and easy maneuverability and, at the same time, cut Golden Retriever nails without cracking down the toes of your Fido. The appearance of the scissors for dogs looks similar to a pair of pliers. Additionally, scissors nail clippers may also offer excess force required for large dog breeds with bigger and thicker nails. Some pet owners who are cutting the nails of their doggo find it easier to use compared to the scissor type. The cutting of nails using the guillotine nail clipper is actually straight across. Yet, one of the downsides of using this type of nail clipper is that there is more pressure applied over the toe of the dog. In contrast to the scissor-type, the guillotine is highly ideal to cut nails of small to medium-sized dogs. These dogs have nails that fit perfectly and exactly on the clipper hole. Moreover, a guillotine nail clipper is good to use when you opt to clip dewclaws. Primarily, the dog has this wiggly behavior especially when they not used to that kind of routine. So, you have to be very careful with this. Additionally, check on things that you must have to be aware of. Generally, the individual claw of the dogs has the nail part and the quick. Cutting the nail part itself may not really cause any pain. Moreover, there is the quick part which is the sensitive one that contains the supply of the blood. So, cutting the nail of the Golden Retriever in too short length may result in cutting the quick. With that, the Goldens may experience pain and there would also be some bleeding. Because of that incident, your pooch will be scared and might feel threatened on the next nail cutting session. Yet, for me, it would be easier for you to cut Golden Retriever nails after a bath because their nails are softer making them easier to cut. That way, you do not need to exert extra pressure on their toes. Also, it is very important that the dog is calm. Keep in mind that if your dog is constantly moving during nail cutting will not give you a good result. Give it to them as well as praise them every time they make a good move. Moreover, the Goldens will also learn that nail cutting is a good experience and it should not make them threatened. The nails on that part of the dog are less sensitive. Additionally, your Goldens will be prepared and make them at ease with the nail cutting process. Do the cutting from the bottom side. Make sure that your movement is fast and smooth-sailing. This will help to keep away your Goldens from being agitated. It is better to do that most likely if you know exactly where the quick spot is and you want short nails for your Goldens. In case the nail of the Golden Retriever is quite darker or black in color, the best way to cut is straight across. Cut it little by little instead of trying to perform the 45O angle cutting method. STEP 5: After cutting each individual nail, check on it and try to see if you are cutting close to the quick. Moreover, find if dew claw is present and also trim it. Usually, the dewclaw resides in a slightly higher position on the leg and normally attached by loose skin. Dewclaw is easy to find because it does not touch the ground. Apply a styptic powder over a piece of cotton and gently swab it to the bleeding nail. The Difference Grinding of the Golden Retriever Nails Aside from cutting, trimming the nails of the Golden Retriever can also be done through grinding. For us to define the difference between the two here is how grinding the nails of the dog works: Grinding of the Golden Retriever Nails: Based on our discussion above, cutting Golden Retriever nails involves the use of nail clippers. Meanwhile, during grinding, the nail grinder is used. Compared to nail clippers, this nail trimming tool is easier to use as it slowly grinds the nails of the Goldens down. Usually, dog owners who are not confident with the use of the nail clippers prefer to choose the nail grinding method. A slower process of dog nail trimming works best over the dark nails of the dogs. A: Basically, in order to prevent cutting the quick of the dog, you must have to position the cutting blade of the nail clipper facing you. Moreover, place the cutting blade on a distance quite farther from the dogs quick so that you will able to avoid it. A: Generally, when your dog walks over a hard surface like pavements, it will help in shortening the length of its claws. However, dogs walking regularly will not maintain the required short length of their nails. A: Well, if you accidentally cut the quick of the Golden Retriever, the dog will have to bleed, and walking will make them feel uncomfortable. But, that will naturally fade as their nails grow back. A: In case the quick is cut, hurt, and exposed, immediately rush your dog to the veterinarian. The vet will apply antibiotics in ointment form or in powder to the affected nail bed. The injectable or oral form of antibiotic is also recommended to avoid possible infection because the quick is attached to the bone. A: Keep in mind that it is not good to use a nail file for humans in cutting the nails of the Golden Retriever. Final Words Three important points to take into account in cutting Golden Retriever nails, you should take it slowly, avoid the quick, and reward your dog. Moreover, always feel free to cut one nail in a day. That way you and your dog can find the nail cutting process easy and comfortable. It looks difficult and, well, puppies are so wiggly! The first piece of advice is this: Begin early. Nail Trimming Tools Several types of nail trimmers are on the market, available at pet-supply stores. Some are better suited to small breeds; others are made with large breeds in mind. Guillotine trimmers one blade are better for small breeds because they are small and easy to use on tiny paws. Dog nail clippers with two cutting edges are better suited for large breeds. They are larger than guillotine trimmers and are made more like hedge clippers, giving plenty of leverage for large, tough nails. Puppy toenails are sometimes soft and extremely small, which makes trimming with regular-sized canine toenail trimmers difficult. The adult-sized trimmers can tear the nail instead of clipping it. Human fingernail trimmers are helpful, especially on small breeds, such as Toy Poodles or Yorkshire Terriers. Ask your veterinarian to recommend an appropriate size and style for your puppy. When you purchase nail trimmers, also buy styptic powder. Cut right below the pink line. Dark nails are more difficult, but a rule of thumb is to cut right below where the nail starts to curve. Trim a little at a time to avoid cutting the quick. Be aware that as a nail grows, so does the quick, so frequent nail clipping means the quick stays short and out of the way. It will help to hold your pup close to your body with that arm. Place your thumb on top of the foot and fingers underneath to spread the toes. With the nail clippers in the other hand, snip the nails one at a time with short, decisive strokes. Simply use your finger to apply a pinch of styptic powder to the end of the nail and apply pressure. Hold for 30 seconds or until the bleeding stops. Once you have trimmed each nail, file the nails with an emery board to remove sharp edges. Normal canine nails should be intact all the way into the foot, not bleeding, cracked or split. Without doubt, your puppy will wiggle, whine, even yelp when you trim its nails. Talk quietly and soothingly, and hold your puppy firmly. Praise your puppy lavishly when the job is done, and give him a treat. You want the puppy to remember each nail trimming as a positive, fun experience! Table Of Contents Cutting Dog Nails Cutting dog nails can be turned into a quick and easy task by following these simple steps. Golden retriever dogs who get lots of exercise on cement surfaces may wear their nails down enough with a do-it-yourself dog nail grooming program that they don't even need clipping. But dogs who are older and less active, or who don't spend much time on concrete, will need regular nail care. Dogs should walk silently. If you can hear your dog's nails click against the floor or pavement, it's time for a pedicure. Consequences of Not Cutting Dog Nails A Golden Retriever dog's paw is an arrangement of four flexible, strong toes and five tough pads. A dog that's walking properly should be walking squarely on those pads. If the task of clipping dog nails is neglected and his nails grow too long, the only way the foot can compensate and retain balance is for the toes to spread apart, causing the foot itself to become flattened and spread out. That can eventually destroy the entire structure of the foot, effectively crippling your dog. Neglecting regular nail care can lead to serious dog toenail problems, too. Very long nails can grow back into the dog's pads, causing your dog enormous pain. A dog ingrown toenail is no laughing matter. Clipping dog nails regularly is important because nails that are allowed to become long are also more prone to splitting. Split nails are very painful to your dog, and often require surgical removal of the remainder of the nail to permit proper healing. Golden Retriever Dogs with long nails can have difficulty walking on hard or slick surfaces. Those long nails will also scratch your wooden floors and get caught in carpeting, which can sometimes rip out a toenail ouch! Dewclaw removal for a puppy is sometimes done if he's heading for a career as an active hunting dog. But most Goldens keep their dewclaws, so you'll need to trim them whenever cutting dog nails comes up on your agenda. Since they don't touch the ground, they can never wear down through exercise. Neglected dewclaw nails sometimes grow in complete circles and can even penetrate into the toe pad. The key to trimming dog nails without crushing the nail and leaving ragged edges is to use specially designed dog nail clippers. Dog toenail clippers come in two basic styles. One type has two blades and works like a special pair of scissors pictured on the right. The other style pictured on the left has an oblong opening that the nail fits into and a single blade that cuts the nail when the handle is squeezed. They're called guillotine nail clippers because they make a sharp, clean cut like a guillotine. Either variety works quite well for cutting dog nails. You can also find electric dog nail clippers on the Internet, or possibly at your pet supply store. You can even Dremel dog nails if you'd like try grinding instead of cutting. Each method of cutting dog nails has its pros and cons. When cutting dog nails, you want to trim just the end -- the hook-like part of the nail that turns down. Try to avoid cutting the "quick," the pink area in the center of the nail. This pink interior, called the quick or nail bed, contains blood vessels and nerves. These blood vessels extend about three-fourths of the length of the nail, and are surrounded by the tough nail. If the nails are kept short by frequently cutting dog nails, the tiny veins stay short. If a Golden Retriever dog's nails are allowed to grow uncontrolled, the veins and nerves keep growing. If you've let your dog's nails get much too long, you'll have to shorten them gradually. Carefully clip off just a fraction of an inch every few days. Cutting dog nails gradually like this will allow the veins and nerves to slowly recede. If your Golden Retriever dog's nails are light colored, you'll be able to see the vein when you look at the nail from the side. If your Golden Retriever happens to have a few dark nails, your job is a little tougher. It helps if you hold a flashlight beam directly under the dark nail to help you see the lighter line of the vein when cutting dog nails. If you're still not sure where the quick is, clip just a bit off the tip of the nail. Wait a few days and then clip some more. It's much safer to trim a small amount of nail often, than to take big cuts off neglected nails all at once. Uh oh. Now you've done it. That last little cut nicked the quick, and now the toenail's bleeding. What do you do now? Don't panic, and don't put yourself on a guilt trip. You're probably more upset than your Golden Retriever dog. Most of the time, a minor cut to the quick will stop bleeding on its own. To speed up the process, you can dab a bit of styptic powder on the nail. If that still doesn't stop the bleeding, applying the powder along with some gentle pressure for a few minutes will do the job. That can make trimming dog nails quite an ordeal. The easiest way to get your dog used to having his nails trimmed is by playing with his feet when he's a puppy. Some breeders make it easier for you by clipping their puppies' nails weekly until they go to their new homes. That makes it a cinch for you to keep cutting dog nails on a regular basis, without a fuss. Don't despair. It's never too late! If your dog is fussy about having his nails cut, first handle his feet during your play sessions and even after brushing him. Use lots of praise, and keep these sessions really short. You don't need to handle all four feet each time. Handling just one, with lots of praise, gets the point across. As your dog gets less tense when you handle his feet, help him get used to the nail clippers. Let him smell them, and tell him what a brave dog he is. Don't try to use them yet. After a week of this nice, easy contact, brush your dog, praise him, let him sniff the clippers, and then clip one toenail, cutting off only the sharp point. Praise as you cut, then quit for the day. The next day, do two nails, and two the day after. If this goes well, you may be able to do a whole paw the following day. Praise with each little snip. Reward him at the end with some soothing brushing and a fun game. Maybe it'll take you several pedicure sessions to get them all done, but who cares? Clipping dog nails this way was easy and painless for all concerned. Most groomers and veterinary clinics will be happy to help you out. The small fee they charge is priceless compared to your Golden Retriever's health. Do not plan to cut all the nails the first day or even the first week. This will cause a lot of bleeding and likely your dog will pull back quickly. Try this instead: Grind across the bottom of the nail and then carefully in from the tip of the nail, smoothing rough edges. Next, cup your hand and pour some styptic powder, cornstarch, or baking soda into the palm. Gently dip the bleeding nail into the powder. Repeat as needed. Once the bleeding stops, try to keep the dog off their feet for at least 30 minutes. Trimming her nails consistently helps the quick recede, which reduces the chance I will cut it and makes the task fear-free for me as well. FAQ What age do you start trimming your dog's nails? Some dog owners prefer to use a nail grinder instead of clippers. Again, these are easy to use by simply slowly grinding down the nail. They may be the preferred choice for people less confident with the sharp and quick motion of the clippers. First things first, get acquainted with what the nail actually looks like and what you need to be aware of. Dummies has a great diagram for what the inside of the nail looks like here. Each claw is made up of the nail itself, which is insensitive and can be trimmed without causing pain, and the sensitive quick that contains the blood supply. Trying to cut a moving target will not end well! Be liberal with treats and praise so they know that this is a good experience and that they have nothing to fear. Start with the nails on the hind legs as these are likely to be less sensitive and should ease your dog into the procedure. Place a very small piece of nail between the clippers and cut from the underneath side. Be quick and smooth in the movement so as not to agitate your dog. A guillotine clipper will cut straight across while you have more freedom to cut how you like with scissor clippers. Immediately tend to the bleeding by applying styptic powder on a cotton swab to cauterize the bleeding. Remember to treat your dog and provide lots of loving attention. We specialize in breeding Mini Goldendoodles as well as a few other breeds. We also have partnered up with several other high quality breeders that raise mini goldendoodle pups that meet our strict genetic criteria and testing. So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Poodles come in many colors, but unfortunately, there is no way to naturally breed a pink Poodle. Those who have pink Poodles actually have a dog that naturally has a white or light apricot color. A pink Poodle walks at the beach. A surprising number of people are interested in pink Poodles. As a result, most Poodles already look unique. The colors a Poodle can come in include black, blue, silver, gray, apricot, cream, white, brown, red, silver beige, and cafe au lait. The most common color is black, but none of the colors are overly rare. Two Poodles are playing at the park. Many believe that the general popularity of Poodles is a result of their status as circus dogs. Specifically, Poodles were popular circus dogs in the early 19th century, and remain so to this day. Back when circuses started becoming popular in the United States in the s, Poodles were a big part of the show. Trainers were able to teach Poodles how to perform a variety of interesting and exciting tricks. At this time, many circus owners would color their light-colored Poodles to draw more attention from the general audience. After all, audiences came to see a spectacle. What could be more spectacular than a Poodle performing tricks with pink hair? Furthermore, as Poodles became more popular, their curly hair allowed groomers to get creative in how they presented them. Different cuts and styles emerged so that each dog could look different. Some haircuts were considered more elegant, so wealthy owners would look to have the most elegant-looking dogs. Dye also was not easy to come by, and owners would flaunt their wealth by using it on their Poodles. Today, many owners around the United States opt to dye their dogs pink. However, they do not do it for the same reasons as owners from the 19th century. Instead, they do it so that their dog stands out. Many owners also believe their dogs like the extra attention they get as a result of their pink hair. A white Poodle dyed with pink. However, it is still smart to be cautious about which products you choose. You should treat them the way you want to be treated! When you do dye your Poodle, you should also take care to keep the dye away from their eyes, nose, mouth, and other sensitive areas. Keep in mind: if it would hurt you, it will hurt your dog, too. One thing that comes up often is the use of food coloring as a substitution for hair dye. You can do this, but you need to be extra cautious. When applying the dye, you need to make sure you take your time. Just think — would you eat straight food-coloring? Probably not! Drying can take a long time, so be prepared to do nothing else for a little while. Unfortunately, it is not possible to dye a black or dark-haired Poodle pink. Only dye the fur of white or light-colored Poodles for the best results. Combing a black Poodle. Final Thoughts Sadly, pink Poodles are not real. Bummer, we know. Just make sure you read and follow all the precautions on the hair dye container, and your best friend will be looking pink and posh in no time. My wife and I love playing with our active miniature Labradoodle Max. We want all Oodle puppies to be healthy and happy, have lots of fun and be part of the family. Load More. Dying a Poodle Pink Overview Many different dog breeds are dyed by their owners; however it is the Poodle which is dyed most often. In addition, the most popular color is a pink Poodle. The Poodle breed has the reputation of being graceful, elegant and lively…. A dog that is pampered like a prince or princess… And whether male or female, it is the pink Poodle that gets the most attention. Is This Safe for the Dog? Must a Poodle be white for this to work? The different ways in which this can be done Instructions on how to create a pink Poodle Is This Legal? When done properly, dyeing the coat of a dog is very safe, non-toxic, does not dry out the coat and it is temporary. However, it is not legal to do so in some areas. There is not a countrywide law regarding this…. In the United States, being able to create a pink Poodle or any other color is decided by city level. For example, in Boulder Colorado, there is a city ordinance that prohibits the coloring or dyeing of any animal. Owners who live in that town and have done so, have been severely fined and in at least 1 case, arrested for doing so. The reason that this legislation was drawn up was to discourage people from coloring chickens and rabbits for the Easter holiday. Because it was not written to specify chickens and rabbits, it therefore includes all dogs, including the Poodle. For this reason, if you are thinking about having a pink Poodle, do please first check with your local town or city hall to find out if there are any restrictions to this practice. Is This Safe? When done properly and with great care, this is safe. While there are no official studies done on the long term effects of creating a pink Poodle… proper dyeing includes using non-toxic substances that do NOT block any air flow and is universally considered to be safe. There is, of course, always a chance of an allergic reaction, however this can be said for any food fed to a dog, any laundry detergent used to clean dog bedding, etc. Care must be taken when coloring around the Poodle's ears however, as allowing the dye or water to enter the ear canal can cause an ear infection. A solid white Poodle will be much easier to color. However, with some experimentation, a light colored Poodle can also be made to be a pink Poodle. As you can imagine, a very dark dog, such as a black Poodle cannot be dyed pink. The darker the dog, the less that the pink color will stand out. The Different Ways in Which This Can be Done There are basically 5 choices you can choose from if you wish for a pink Poodle: 1 You can have a professional dog groomer do this, preferably one who has experience in doing so. While you would assume that a non-toxic product would be used, be sure to still ask questions about the safety of the paint and any possible side effects. Many will come with pre-cut designs which are essentially stencils that are held up to the coat. It's best to have a helper so that one person can hold the stencil and the other can do the painting. Most paints will be in the form of sprays. Be careful when using this around your Poodle's face. This is the method that was used long before commercial pet painting products were marketed. This type of product is also manufactured to temporarily add colored stripes to human hair. This is another 'old school' method that was used to make a Poodle pink long before commercial pet paints came out on the market. Note: You may hear of other methods; some may not be safe at all. It is important to use a dye method that is proven to not clog skin pores, interfere with a dog's breathing or his ability to move, etc. And in all cases, a dog may still have an unexpected reaction. How to Make a Pink Poodle with the Chalking Method Many people are aware of using food coloring to do this, however another increasingly popular method is to use colored chalk. The main reason that this is used is if the owner wishes for the color to be able to rinse out rather quickly. In most cases, when using this method, the color will steadily rinse out anywhere from 3 days to 2 months. One downside to this, is that if you are going to use more than 1 color, such as making the ear fringes pink and the pompons blue, there is a good chance that the colors will transfer, run and blend when you are bathing your Poodle or even if your dog is out in the rain for too long. For this reason, it is suggested to only use this method if you wish to create a solid pink Poodle. What You Will Need. Small Smallest Hip Dysplasia: Hip dysplasia is a painful disease that occurs when the bones in the back legs do not fit correctly in the joints. While some dogs will exhibit symptoms, the majority of canines will not. Hip dysplasia is primarily inherited, although it may also be caused by accidents, excessive weight gain, and incorrect activity. Though this illness is life-threatening, there are a variety of therapies available, including medication and surgical hip replacement. Progressive Retinal Atrophy: It is an age-related eye disease that affects the photoreceptors. Due to the degradation of the photoreceptor cells, the afflicted dog will eventually go blind. Small breed dogs are prone to Legg Calve Perthes. It leads to arthritis or the loss of ability if the severity develops. This leads to lameness in the leg or an abnormal gait, like a hop or a skip. This condition is caused by birth, although the actual misalignment or luxation does not always occur much later. The rubbing caused by patellar luxation leads to arthritis. There are 4 patellar luxation grades, ranging from phase I, an occasional luxation causing unstable lameness in the joint, to grade IV, where the turning of the tibia is heavy, and the patella cannot be realigned manually. This gives your dog a bow-legged appearance. Uphill grades of patellar luxation may require surgery. Corneal Dystrophy: Corneal Dystrophy is an inherited illness that affects the corneal layers of the eyes. It is not a painful ailment, although some pink poodles exhibit signs of forming an opaque coating. Epilepsy: Seizures are common in Idiopathic epilepsy, typically hereditary, and can range from mild to severe. Seizures can be identified by unusual behaviors such as frantically fleeing as if being pursued, tripping, or hiding. Seizures are frightening, but idiopathic epilepsy in dogs has a reasonably good long-term prognosis. Seizures can be caused by various factors other than idiopathic epilepsy, such as metabolic disorders, brain respiratory illnesses, malignancies, toxin poisoning, and severe head trauma. Sebaceous Adenitis: Standard poodles are more susceptible to the illness, with estimates suggesting that half of all Standard Poodles are carriers. Sebaceous Adenitis is a difficult-to-diagnose genetic disease frequently misdiagnosed as hypothyroidism, asthma, or other ailments. Sebum is produced by the sebaceous gland, which protects the coat. Secondary skin infections and skin thickness might occur in severe instances. The main sign is excessive bleeding after ablation or surgery. Nosebleeds, bleeding gums, and intestinal or bowel bleeding are some of the symptoms and consequences. There is no cure, and the only thing that can help is a blood transfusion from healthy dogs. The development of new treatments, including medicine, is underway. A veterinarian should test your dog for the illness. Consistency with the treatment and regular veterinary check ups can cure this condition. Pink Poodle Diet and Nutrition 1. However, it is best to consult a veterinarian for a diet chart for your Pink Poodle. They are not suited to living in the open or being trapped in a shelter. Despite their thick coat, they have little tolerance to intense cold. If you have a Poodle, keep them away from extremes of heat and cold. As long as they are with you, they can adapt well to apartment living and compact living areas. Tri-color Poodles, for example, will attract many buyers and can be overpriced. Puppies with the lineage of show champions will be costly.

Although they are bred specifically to avoid many of the genetic diseases common to Bulldogs, there are some conditions to be aware of including skin problems, cherry eye, entropion, or hip and elbow dysplasia. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and also to see any health clearances can help allay concerns about potential health issues. The Victorian Bulldog is sensitive, intelligent, and eager to please. They tend to pick up training quickly and relate well to their humans. This makes them a highly trainable dog breed and a good fit for owners of any experience level. They respond best to gentle, positive, and rewards-based training. This dog breed has a moderate grooming level and is an average shedder. Common coat colors are red, brindle, fawn, solid white, or pied. They have a shorthaired coat of fine, smooth fur that requires minimal grooming. Bulldogs are known for their wrinkly faces, which need to be cleaned regularly to avoid irritated skin or infections. Gently cleaning inside the wrinkles each day with a damp cloth will help keep your Victorian Bulldog comfortable and prevent skin problems. In addition to coat and skin care, there are other grooming tasks that every dog needs, like nail trimming, regular ear checks, and dental care. Monthly nail trimming is usually sufficient to keep nails from getting too long. Ears that flop over can trap dirt, debris, and moisture, which can lead to ear infections. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Dental hygiene chews and a dental care diet can help supplement your dental care efforts. Getting them used to regular grooming tasks and keeping it a positive experience makes grooming much easier as your dog grows. It can even become a bonding experience that calms and relaxed both of you! Victorian Bulldogs have a moderate activity level. They can sometimes act like couch potatoes when they are indoors, but they still need some regular exercise every day to stay happy and healthy. A few walks a day with some playtime or time to run around is sufficient for this stocky pup. Although they are more athletic than their English Bulldog cousins, they still have a short snout, so they can get overheated easily. A fully-grown Victorian Bulldog usually stands between inches tall at the shoulders and weighs between pounds. A Victorian Bulldog generally lives years. The Victorian Bulldog was bred to recreate the appearance of the Bulldog breed from the early 19th century, so it looks more like the Bulldogs from years ago than those of today. Exercise Grooming The Victorian Bulldog began to spread far and wide after Ken Mollet who loved the bulldogs greatly, decided to create a healthier breed of the dogs. It took awhile for him to achieve the result he wanted and much later he was working on his breed alone. Ken Mollet used breeds recognized by the Kennel Clubs and Healthy dogs developed by prominent dog breeders. He used Bullmastiffs, Staffords and Dogue de Bordeaux in his bid to accomplish this mission and used any source he could obtain the perfect idea of how the bulldogs looked like in Victorian times. In , Ken formed the Victorian Bulldog society. Today, many dog breeds are similar to it. However, its distinct attributes still make it distinguishable. The Victorian Bulldog is a lovable dog. It is important to bring up the dog appropriately through good training. The Victorian Bulldog is a protective dog. It is good to have around children. This breed is quite easy to train, it requires simple and straightforward instructions to build on. Given its high intelligence, the dog is sure to take on more advanced instructions with quality and engaging training sessions. The Victorian Bulldog adapts easily into a moderate climate. It is unable to cope well in extreme regions of either hot or cold weather. It requires a small yard for movement, a large apartment will also suffice. It is not an energetic dog. However, it needs moderate exercise and mental stimulation every day. On average, the dog requires about 3hrs of activities ranging from medium intensity to low-intensity activities and mentally tasking activities. This enables it to grow into a responsible dog. Exercise helps keep your dog balanced a d contributes immensely to a healthy appearance. The Victorian Bulldog shed hair to a reasonable extent and will require brushing its coat a few times every week. Washing often can damage its coat and rinse off the natural oils that make it glow and look healthy. One of the benefits of crossing two different breeds is to minimize the health issues that are associated with each breed. The Labradoodle. The labradoodle has been in existence since when an Australian breeder crossed the Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle. The purpose was to combine the low-shedding coat of the poodle with the loyalty and trainability of a Labrador Retriever. The result was a hypoallergenic guide dog that was immediately loved by all who met him. Since then the breed has increased in popularity in the United States and all across the world.
