The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article.
A mix between the confident Airedale Terrier and the regal Standard Poodle , this newer cross is sure to keep turning heads for years to come. The Airedale Terrier is sometimes known as the King of the Terriers. They are a unique-looking sporting breed with a long snout and curly hair. Their distinguished face also makes them easily recognizable. People often unfairly dismiss the Poodle as a prissy show dog. In reality, they are just as capable of being driven sporting or working dogs. They boast an incredible intelligence. Still, there are millions of dogs waiting for homes in shelters. When looking for a specific breed, make an effort to adopt from a shelter or rescue. Read on for a detailed list of characteristics of the Airedoodle. Contrary to popular belief, the suitability of dogs who adapt well to apartment living goes beyond its size. Apartment dwellers have a myriad of dog breeds to choose from as potential companions, with various factors to consider. Some large breeds can adapt well to apartment living and have lower activity levels. Others may require more space and possess higher energy levels. On the other hand, certain small dog breeds with abundant energy can still find contentment with indoor playtime or brisk walks. However, when selecting a dog that adapts well apartments, it is essential to prioritize your neighbors. This makes them less suitable for apartment living. Therefore, desirable qualities in an apartment dog encompass being quiet, low-energy, and displaying polite behavior towards other residents. Apartment dwellers have a wealth of dog breeds to choose from as potential furry companions. While some larger breeds can adapt well to apartment living, with lower, others may require more space and have higher energy levels, making them less suitable for smaller apartments. Conversely, certain small dog breeds with higher energy levels can still thrive in apartments, finding contentment through indoor playtime or brisk walks. By considering these factors, you can find a dog that will adapt well to apartment living and create a harmonious living environment for everyone involved. We highly recommend doing your research and looking up as many breeders as you can find before you purchase your Airedoodle. You will likely find that each breeder is unique and has something unique to offer. If your heart is set on adopting a dog, you can ask your local shelter if there are dog mixes that resemble the Airedoodle. You might be lucky enough to find an Airedoodle, but it might be rare. Smarty pant parents The Poodle parent of the Airedoodle is the second smartest dog breed, beaten only by the Border Collie. They love to play games like fetch, and also like to go on long walks. They get along well with other pets, and they are curious, so they make great watchdogs. They are very loyal and like to stay close to family members. They also want to learn and enjoy training exercises that bring them praise and treats. They are extremely intelligent and quickly learn tricks and can solve most puzzles presented to them. They are also crafty and will find ways to communicate with you to let you know what they want. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Plenty of early socialization will help them get along better with pets and children, but they rarely have any problems in most situations. They are not much for barking, so they are great for apartments and cities. If you socialize them early, they will get along with other pets even better and will have no problem making friends on walks or when traveling. Occasional treats are ok , but you should always try to get your dog to do some mental or physical exercise before they receive a treat. Avoid using grain-free dog foods until you talk to your vet, as you should before switching to any brand of specialty food. They love to walk and games of fetch , so you will need to put aside at least a half-hour each day to devote to exercising with your pet. This half-hour will likely be enough on some days, but on other days, you may find your dog eager for a few more minutes of play. Often, you will need to spend and additional minutes with your pet to keep them happy. They learn very quickly, and after they catch on to a trick or two, you might find yourself teaching them multiple tricks at once. After a few tries, they will complete tricks on the first command, and they are also capable of complex multistep tricks. To teach your Airedoodle how to do a new trick stand in front of them repeating a phrase like sit, stay, or paw. When your pet figures out what you are asking of it and completes the trick, let them have a treat. Repeat this training session one or two more times, and then try it a few times the next day and each day after until your pet learns the trick and does it on the first command. Your Airedoodle is going to require regular trimmings , as well as brushing and shampooing to keep their hair looking the best. It can also improve their well-being as knotted hair can pull on the skin and become painful. You will also be required to trim the nail and brush the teeth of your Airedoodle regularly to promote dental health. Minor Conditions Cataracts Dogs can get cataracts the same as humans do. A change in the water balance of your eye lens is the primary cause, and it results in a cloudy lens. The cloud prevents light from hitting the retina, which makes it harder to see and can cause blindness. Symptoms include a cloudy or foggy looking eye, and you should take your pet to the vet immediately if you notice this symptom Bloat Bloat is a common condition in dogs that requires immediate medical attention. It can reduce blood flow to the heart and tear the stomach. Symptoms can come on very quickly and include drooling, restlessness, pacing, and failed attempts to vomit. Serious Conditions Hip Dysplasia Hip dysplasia is a disease that resembles arthritis in dogs that can affect any breed but is especially prevalent in larger dogs. Early symptoms include lethargy, difficulty getting up or sitting down, and even whimpering. If you experience your pet displaying any of these symptoms, we recommend getting them to the vet immediately. Obesity Another major condition affecting all breeds of dogs is obesity. A medical condition can cause obesity, but often its caused by improper diet paired with little or no exercise. Obesity is especially prevalent in larger, more active breeds that struggle to get the large amounts of exercise that they require to stay healthy and stave off obesity. Other than the slight size difference, there is very little to tell the males from the female Airedoodles. You can be one of the first to own this unique and intelligent breed. We hope that you have enjoyed reading about the Airedoodle and we have enticed you to investigate them further. If you have found nit helpful, please share this in-depth guide to the Airedoodle on Facebook and Twitter. See also:. An Airedale Poodle mix is a Doodle designer breed that has gained popularity in recent years. As a result, although the breed is still quite young, it has built a loyal following all around the world. The Airedoodle is also the large boy that is also well-muscled. So, they are often very active and playful. Their wide and long muzzle is very unique, which also compliments their intelligent look. Also, like their Poodle parent, they have low-shedding, curly coat. Airedale Terrier Airedale The Airedale Terrier is a big dog that originated from England, known for its guarding capabilities. A unique fact about the Airedale is that they are the largest among the Terriers. Because of this, they are often kept to guard farms and houses. They are very active and hard-working and needs plenty of exercise. They tend to be very protective and great at interacting with kids. However, they still need early training and socialization. Another unique quality of the Airedale Terrier is the two layers of coat. The top layer is dense and curly, and the undercoat is soft and short. They do not shed heavily, but they do shed certain times of the year. There are two main reasons why Poodle is now very popular in the hybrid designer dog world. First, they are intelligent with excellent temperaments. Second, is their low to non-shedding quality. The Poodle has an exceptional temperament, very good-natured and loyal. Also, they are good with children and very friendly. Famous for being very easy to train. The Poodle contributes both of these qualities in Airedoodles, as we will learn below. So, we should not leave them alone for too long. No wonder the Aredale Poodle mix is also known for the same quality. The Airedoodle is a very friendly breed, and great with kids. However, due to their very large size, they might not be the best breed for little toddlers. So, they are relatively calm, lovable, and very caring for their families. Yet, the Airedoodle might be a little mischievous from time to time. This can be annoying, especially when paired with the fact that they are very active. Also, they prefer not to be alone for a long time and might start to dig or chew your things and furniture. They want to be the center of attention, and it can backfire since the Airedoodle can be destructive when they lack attention, Invest in a large enough dog training collar to train the Airedoodle as early as possible. They do shed from time to time, but the Airedale is not a heavy shedder whatsoever. On the other hand, Poodle is well known for being the closest breed from being truly non-shedding and hypoallergenic. As a result, the Airedale Poodle mix typically has a low to moderate shedding coat. Most Airedoodle will require a brush down every week or two, so get a good grooming kit. However, this will depend on which toat type it inherits. Also, since Airedoodle has pendulous ears, check their ears regularly for signs of wax buildups and infections. Brush their teeth regularly to ensure their oral health and prevent periodontal disease. In general, we can say the Airedoodle has moderate grooming requirements. As a result, the Airedale Poodle mix is mostly healthy. Yet, as with most crossbreed dogs, the Airedoodle is susceptible to potential health conditions. The condition can make movements very painful and challenging. Dermatitis: especially happens to Airedoodle with a wiry coat. You can identify dermatitis when the dog excessively licks its fur. Bloat: since the Airedoodle is tall and deep-chested, they are more prone to bloat. Bloat can be life-threatening when left for too long, and so quick treatment is essential. Take the dog to the nearest vet immediately if you see any signs of bloat. Patellar luxation: A condition where the kneecap of the dog is dislocated. Airedoodles are prone to this condition due to their large build and dense muscles. The knee will appear swollen and may cause abnormal movements. Take the Airedoodle to the vet immediately when you see this symptom. In general, make sure the Airedoodle is on a healthy, protein-rich diet, take them to the vet regularly, and provide enough supplements and vitamins. Pros and cons of Airedoodle: Food and Diet Since Airedoodle is a very large and energetic dog compared to other Doodle breeds, they need a higher amount of nutritious dry food. High-quality dry dog food is also essential to maintain their dental and oral health. Give them two and a half cups to three cups of high-quality kibbles regularly, twice a day. A minimal amount of human food is okay, but the diet must include mostly dry food. They have a very high appetite, so they are prone to overfeeding and obesity. All dogs are different, and your Airedoodle might have its unique dietary needs. Pros and cons of Airedoodle: Lifetime Expectancy Let us first discuss the average lifespan of the Airedoodle ancestors. Therefore, the average life expectancy of the Airedale Terrier is relatively similar, also 10 to 12 years. So, the average lifespan of the Airedoodle is similar to the two, around years, but some have reported that they can reach 14 to 15 years. Higher life expectancy is expected if the dog is on a healthy diet and with enough supplements. Pros and cons of Airedoodle: Size and Weight The Airedodole can grow up to 22 to 24 inches in height. Also, they can weigh 40 to 65 lbs while being very muscular. So, the Airedoodle is a big boy, which can either be a plus or minus value depending on your likings. However, if you live in a big enough house and like a big, huggable dog in general, the Airedoodle might be for you. Pros and cons of Airedoodle: Exercise Requirements Being a large and active dog, the Airedoodle requires daily walks to keep them happy and energetic, and they can walk for fairly long. The owner must be able to handle their weight and large body, which might not be for everyone. Early leash training is crucial, so invest in a strong leash that can handle their weight. Again, this also means that Saint Bernedoodle is not a good fit for small apartments or smaller houses. Since they are friendly with other pets, you can take them to dog parks so they can socialize freely if possible, off-leash. So, remember that the Airedoodle needs enough rest and is not your cycling buddy. Sharing is caring! Airedoodle puppies and breeders Airedales and Poodles are both very intelligent dogs, so the Airedoodle is going to be a smart cookie. They are also hard working breeds, with high prey drives and a strong bond to their owners. Although sometimes disinterested in or wary of strangers, these dogs are very loyal to their families and make loving pets in the right homes. Where Do Airedoodles Come From? When we look back at some of the most famous canine movie stars, what we see is a lineup of mixed breed dogs — in short, mutts! The Airedoodle is a really interesting hybrid mix! From each purebred parent dog line, the Airedoodle inherits some amazing traits and qualities, including nobility, smarts, athletic talent, and a tremendous work ethic. This is the largest purebred terrier. The Irish Terrier, Bedlington Terrier, English Black and Tan Terrier, Otterhound, and certain other retriever and setter breeds are thought to have contributed to the breed now called the Airedale Terrier. The latter two lines are more recent, however. These dogs are not only one of the smartest canine breeds on the planet, but they come from a noble hunting and working dog lineage. Airedoodle Appearance With any hybrid dog, and especially with first generation litters F1 from two different purebred parent dogs, it is not easy to predict exactly what a given puppy may be like. This inherent unpredictability comes from not knowing how the genes from each parent dog will interact in a given puppy. This is because starting in the second generation, you may see parent dog pairings where both parent dogs are Airedoodles. One parent dog is an Airedoodle and the other parent dog is a Poodle, or one parent dog is an Airedoodle and the other parent dog is an Airedale Terrier. The first combination will be the most stable in terms of predicting what puppies will be like. The more removed from the first generation pairing you get, the more stable the traits of the puppies are likely to become. For this reason, we focus here on first generation F1 puppies and take a look at each purebred parent dog. This will give you a big picture perspective on what an F1 Airedoodle dog may be like! Airedoodle Size, Weight and Height Airedoodles can be anywhere from 13 — 23 inches in height and weigh between 15 — 70lbs! The Poodle is bred in three sizes: standard, miniature, and toy. The miniature Poodle stands 10 to 15 inches and weighs 10 to 15 pounds. The toy Poodle stands less than 10 inches and weighs 4 to 6 pounds. The Airedale Terrier is bred in one size. The adult dog will stand 23 inches high and weigh 50 to 70 pounds. Here, you can see there may be great size variety even within a litter of Airedoodle puppies! This dog is often recommended for people who have pet allergies because of the low shedding. Weekly brushing is often sufficient to keep the coat healthy. Are Airedoodles Hypoallergenic? Poodles can need more frequent brushing with longer clips. What this means is that any Airedoodle puppy is likely to inherit a low-shedding coat from either parent dog. Airedale Personality and Temperament Airedoodle dogs are one of the hybrid dog breeds where each parent dog shares some wonderful traits common with each other! Both the Airedale Terrier and the Poodle come from a strong working and hunting dog background. And since both have a great work ethic, a strong people-pleasing personality, natural intelligence, and athleticism, you can reasonably expect to see these same attributes in your Airedoodle puppy. So the most important part of training Airedoodles is twofold: you should always use positive training methods and provide consistent training. You can expect that your Airedoodle puppy will thrive with early and ongoing training and socialization with family, new people, and other dogs. The Airedoodle can make a great athlete and will likely enjoy and excel in agility, rally, show, K-9, and service and therapy dog training. Airedoodle Health One of the big unknowns in hybrid dogs today is health. This is because you are taking the individual health history of two long-standing purebred dog lines and combining those genes together in the puppies. So you need to invest the time up front to learn everything you can about potential health issues that your Airedoodle puppy may inherit from either parent dog line. Health testing for Airedale Poodle cross dogs We recommend testing the Airedale parent dogs for: Hip dysplasia. See on Amazon In essence, the ideal owners for Airedoodle dogs are those who can provide an active and engaging lifestyle, commit to training and socialization, and offer the necessary care and attention to meet the breed's physical and mental needs. By aligning with these qualities, owners can forge a strong and rewarding bond with their Airedoodle companions. Airedoodle Life Expectancy What is the average lifespan of Airedoodle dog? Airedoodle dogs have a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years provided that proper care is given. The life expectancy of an Airedoodle, a crossbreed between an Airedale Terrier and a Poodle, generally falls within the range of ten to fifteen years. However, individual lifespans can be influenced by various factors such as genetics, overall health, diet, exercise, and the quality of care provided. Airedoodles inherit genetic traits from both parent breeds, which can impact their susceptibility to certain health conditions. Ensuring a balanced and nutritious diet tailored to their age, size, and activity level, along with regular exercise and mental stimulation, contributes to their overall well-being and longevity. Regular veterinary check-ups and early detection of potential health issues play a pivotal role in extending their lifespan. By providing comprehensive care and attending to their specific needs, Airedoodle owners can increase the chances of their beloved pets enjoying a full and healthy life. Airedoodle Size Airedoodle dogs vary in size depending on which type of Poodle was bred into the mix. Since Miniature Poodle is much smaller in size than Standard Poodle, the Miniature Airedoodles are typically smaller in size than Standard Airedoodle dogs. A full grown Standard Airedoodle dog can reach a height of 22 to 26 inches tall when mature and a weight of 40 to 60 pounds. Airedoodle appearance The Airedoodle boasts a distinctive and charming appearance that reflects its crossbreed lineage. As a cross between the Airedale Terrier and Poodle, this hybrid dog exhibits a combination of characteristics from both parent breeds. Their coat type and color, as well as their overall build, contribute to their unique and captivating appearance. One notable feature of the Airedoodle's appearance is its coat, which can vary in texture and color. Drawing from the Poodle lineage, some Airedoodles may have a curly or wavy coat that is hypoallergenic, making them a favorable choice for individuals with allergies. Coat colors can range from solid hues to combinations of various shades, including black, brown, cream, gray, and more. In terms of build, Airedoodles often inherit the strong and athletic physique of the Airedale Terrier parent. They tend to have a well-proportioned body, muscular limbs, and a square-shaped head. Their facial expression is characterized by expressive eyes and a black nose. Additionally, their ears may be set high and fold over, resembling those of both parent breeds. Overall, the Airedoodle's appearance is a harmonious blend of the distinctive traits of Airedale Terriers and Poodles. Their coat's texture and colors, along with their sturdy build and endearing facial features, contribute to their appealing and eye-catching presence. At the sight of an Airedoodle, you will spot typically a long snout and a wiry coat. His ears are floppy and the head is round. The dog is strong and has a sturdy appearance. He has a dense medium length that can be curly, wavy, soft or coarse. Airedoodle dog is a moderate shedder which only means regular brushing. The shedding amount will, however, depend on whether the dog is more of an Airedale or a poodle. If it's more of a poodle, then the activity will include shampooing, brushing and trimming. On the other hand, if it's more of an Airedale Terrier the activity will include just brushing twice in a week or some shaping. In order to ensure long term dental health care, the Airedoodle will require his teeth to be brushed more often. His nails should be trimmed regularly too. If you are wondering what time you should trim them check him when he is pacing the room, be keen to observe a clicking sound on the floor. Airedoodles colors are dictated by their parents the combination of An Airedale Terrier and a Poodle, they include: black and brown, black, black and white, golden white, white markings, black and tan, cream, gray, apricot. The texture of an Airedoodle will depend on who he favors ranging from soft to coarse. Origin of Airedale dog Airedoodle is a mixture of very interesting hybrid dogs. From the purebred parent dogs, Airedoodle picks the best character traits from each, which includes smarts, nobility, tremendous work ethic as well as athletic talents. The Airedale terrier has a nickname of "King of terriers" which makes it the biggest purebred terrier. It was first bred by crossing a mixture of various different purebred dogs together, which included Belington terrier, Irish terrier, tan terrier, English black and otterhound. Its birthplace was in the Aire valley region which is miles south of Scotland, Northern England. This sporting dog was used mainly for hunting in the midth century. The poodle dog is bred in three sizes, which are the miniature, standard and toy. The poodle dogs have fine curly springy hair that is eye-catching for everyone who sees it. However, it can mask this dog's athleticism, intelligence courage as well as their versatility. They come from a working lineage and are noble hunters hence explaining their smart canines. This dog first originated in Germany where he was used as a working dog in the military. Records trace it back to the 17th century. Airedoodle pedigree The Airedoodle is a mixture of two hybrids that is the Standard poodle and the Airedale Terrier. However, its parents qualified to be registered and have been members of the club for a long time. The Airedale terrier was registered by the club back in the year while the Standard poodle got registered in the year .The Airedale is described to be very courageous, clever and friendly it falls under the terrier group within the AKC. On the other hand, the standard poodle is described to be proud, smart and very active, it falls under the category of sporting dogs within the AKC ranks. Airedoodle Diet What is the best dog food for Airedoodles? Selecting a high-quality commercial dog food tailored to your Airedoodle's life stage puppy, adult, senior is the cornerstone of their nutritional regimen. When scanning ingredient lists, prioritize options where a protein source, such as meat or fish, takes the lead, while avoiding foods riddled with artificial additives and fillers. For active and vibrant Airedoodles, protein is essential for maintaining muscle mass and vitality. Complex carbohydrates are an energy source and contribute to digestive health. Nutrient-rich grains like brown rice, quinoa, and sweet potatoes can be included in their diet, while it's advisable to minimize foods containing excessive corn or soy content. Essential fatty acids from sources like chicken fat or fish oil support their skin's health and coat's shine. Introducing a variety of fruits and vegetables such as blueberries, carrots, spinach, and pumpkin into their diet provides an array of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that contribute to their overall well-being. Nom Nom dog food Portion control is critical when feeding Airedoodle, as obesity can pose a concern for any breed. Consult your veterinarian to determine appropriate portion sizes based on their age, size, and activity level. Equally vital is ensuring they have consistent access to clean and fresh water for proper hydration. While establishing a regular feeding schedule of meals a day for adults and more frequent meals for puppies is recommended, the avoidance of toxic human foods like chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, and garlic is crucial to their safety. Customized dietary needs may arise due to allergies, sensitivities, or health conditions. Hypoallergenic dog food Airedoodle Puppies Finding an Airedoodle puppy may not be an easy task due to the fact that it's an uncommon hybrid. Once you bring your puppy home ensure to have a game plan ready for training him. Be keen to introduce obedience training since the new puppy may get overly hyper due to the high energy levels they contain. New airedoodle owner's guide Are Airedoodle good dogs for families with kids? However, you will need to be extra careful when it comes to socializing with your toddlers, owing to their high energy levels this dog may bump into your young one without meaning any harm, which may not be a good experience for your baby. Teach your kids proper ways of approaching and playing with the dog. Airedoodle Exercise Needs The parents of the Airedoodle have high energy levels, so expect the Airedoodle to be very active as well. The dog requires going for regular walks for at least half an hour on a daily basis. Other benefits will be gained from visiting dog parks where the dog can have a couple of activities in the yard. Having this adorable pooch is an added advantage to homeowners who adore running, jogging or cycling since this dog can make a great companion while you enjoy these activities. It's advisable for potential owners to have time slotted in their schedules to accommodate such activities since this will aid the Airedoodle to thrive mentally as well. How to groom an Airedoodle dog? The Airedoodle dog is most likely to have a low shedding coat since its parents shed low coats. In order to take care of this dog's coat, it's highly recommendable for potential owners to do weekly brushes as well as professional grooming every two to three months. In addition, it's advisable to also take care of the Airedoodles ears, nails and teeth. The professional grooms can take care of this easily. However, the potential owner is required to take care of it by themselves in between the professional and the grooming sessions at home. In times when the nails grow too long the movement of an Airedoodle can become very painful, and are prone to cracking which at the same time increases the risk of getting caught in things. It's advisable to trim the nails of an Airedoodle on a monthly basis to keep the nails short. In case the Airedoodles nails are not wearing down between trims, then it's advisable to often file them. Airedoodles ears also need regular check-ups while carefully cleaning them up to avoid ear-related infections. Too much moisture, wax buildup, debris, and dirt may cause severe damage or potential infections. Frequent checkups on your dog's ears to ensure they are dry, free of debris and clean may help identify problems in case anything is going on. One of the leading common health issues in dogs is dental related. However, most potential dog owners normally overlook it. Just as it's essential for us humans to brush our teeth, so it is for your dog and on a daily basis. This aids in preventing tartar from building up which eventually leads to tooth decay, tooth loss or gum diseases. It's recommended to use a toothpaste meant for dogs while brushing their teeth or enhance the toothpaste with some enzyme. Better still, the dog vet can offer ways to supplement dental care for the dog such as feeding the dog with special formulated dental care diet or dental hygiene chews. Airedoodle training The Airedoodle dog has high intelligence and is very keen to please its owner, making it very easy to train him. The Airedoodle is physically strong and so you will require both socialization and behavioral training in order to bring out the best of him. They love human interaction and also thrive on mental stimulation. This only means that they can pick up commands easily after just a few cycles of repetition. Since the dog is very talented, he will do good in competitive obedience, guarding, hunting and also tracking such activities will keep him mentally stimulated and physically active. Potential owners of this dog will love to go out of their ways to keep him healthy, active and happy. Tips for training an Airdoodle dog Find an effective way to aid your Airedoodle to burn off excess energy This specific breed is very active and has high energy levels therefore learn to take the dog for long walk sessions every day or play with it outside for a longer period. This ensures that your dog does not become hyperactive or defiant during training, which leads to a slow command pick up series. Use positive reinforcement skills to train Airedale dog Since it's easy to train an Airedoodle dog you will not find it difficult to make it obey your commands. The dog will easily follow the commands without any trouble, rewarding it makes it more eager to obey the commands. Rewards may include food, walks or toys. Start training Airdoodle pup as early as you can When the Airedoodle is still very tender start giving simple instructions before moving onto the harder ones. It's at this stage that pet learns at its very best and often prevents aggressive behavior while developing. Be relaxed and confident during the training Airedoodles are very sensitive while it comes to sensing your emotions, so its good to be relaxed and calm during the training so that your dog can do the same. If at any time you become angry or firm during the session, your dog may not listen to you. It's advisable to stay confident and within your dog's abilities, this will make it easier for your dog to pick up commands. Potty Training Airdoodle puppy Potty training is among the most important tasks that need to be performed as soon as you get your Airedoodle pup home. If your dog is trained early enough, it will definitely not give you a hard time to train. Being an intelligent hybrid dog, this dog will absolutely not give you hard time to potty train him. Stay positive and be patient, while you avoid punishing your dog when it messes in your house. Below are tips to observe while potty training: Watch out: Be keen to watch your dog, he will tell you when its time through subtle clues such as the following: Sniffing at the floor, turning around in circles, scratching at the door, pawing the ground, barking or whining. Watch closely so as to identify these signs once its time. It's preferred that you keep your dog in the same room or area to able to carry out the observation. Observe bathroom breaks: A non-mature dog may need to relieve himself more often than a full-grown dog. Depending on the age a puppy may need between 3 to 4 hours break to facilitate the need and less likely to have accidents. As the Airedale Poodle mix dog grows older the timings are bound to change so take them out after meals play sessions or naps. Now, I own a Doodle dog of my own. This gives me a unique perspective on the Airedoodle breed. Plus, a soft spot in my heart for both parent breeds. They were wonderful dogs. Full of energy, stubbornness, and love for our entire family. Airedales are not very common. The breed becomes a part of nostalgia that mixes childhood and family memories into one. An old picture of my two Airedales: Max bottom and Kyle top. I adored both Kyle and Max. Kyle was tall, lanky, and gentle. As a kid, I would lay on him and read a book or bury my head into his. Max on the other hand was built like a bull. He was stubborn, energetic, and a free soul. Both Max and Kyle were great watchdogs. They were great with my sister and me when we were small children. For that, I will always love Airedales! This adorable video below about a family adopting an Airedale puppy just hits too close to home. After I graduated college, I was dead set on getting a dog of my own. I was obsessed with Bernedoodles. Eventually, I was able to adopt Murphy and the rest is history. She is a wild child. I love every minute of it. But all the other times of fun and sweetness make up for it. Bernedoodles are a Poodle mix. Living with Murph for over 3 years has convinced me that Poodle mixes, or better known as Doodles, are the ideal dog mix. I could be biased but the Airedale-Poodle mix sounds like the perfect dog. What is an Airedoodle? It is a relatively new Doodle breed that has risen in popularity in recent years. It is a medium to a large-sized dog with an athletic build. They are smart, loyal, and gentle. Airedoodles can also be called Poodales or Airepoos. Like many Doodle breeds , it has no documented history. The two breeds that make up the Airedoodle, on the other hand, have a long history. Airedale Terrier Airedale Terrier holding a toy. The Airedale Terrier is commonly referred to as an Airedale. They are also known as the Bingley Terrier and the Waterside Terrier. Airedales have influenced other dog breeds such as the Yorkshire Terrier. This breed was created as a versatile hunting and all-around working farm dog and has also served as a battle dog, guide dog, and police dog in the United Kingdom. Terriers from the River Aire in South Yorkshire were bred with Otterhounds in the mid-nineteenth century to improve their ability to hunt near water and boost their scenting abilities. The Airedale was the name given to the breed after the place where it originally appeared. Poodle Poodle running around outside. Officially, the Poodle is said to have originated in Germany in the midth century. Their heritage reaches further back to an Asian dog breed that had curly hair. Originally a water dog, the Poodle was used in Germany for its superb waterfowl-hunting ability. The breed has excelled as a guide dog, protection dog, service dog, and performance dog. Origin of the Airedoodle The origin of the Airedoodle is a mystery. The Airedale Terrier-Poodle mix combines the histories of both parent breeds into one. As previously stated, there are no official records on when or where the first Airedoodle was born. This is not uncommon in the Doodle dog world. The skull of an Airedoodle is round, and the ears are floppy. They have a square-shaped construction and a powerful, solid look. Mellow, an adorable Airedoodle puppy, hanging out on the floor image: mellowaire. The Poodle has a curly, long coat. The combination of the two gives the Airedoodle a curly, wiry coat that will need attention often. It should be professionally groomed frequently, or it will mat and tangle. This will be uncomfortable for your pup. It also means he will be dragging dirt and dander wherever he goes. Poodles only have one coat while an Airedale has two. The undercoat is softer than the outer coat. The outer coat is rough, wiry, and rigid. This level of grooming may be required for your Poodale. Also, be sure to brush their teeth at least every other day to prevent plaque buildup and periodontal disease. Coat Colors According to the Airedale breed standard, the proper coat color is either a black saddle with a tan head, ears, and legs or a dark grizzle saddle black mixed with gray and white [3] www. The finest and toughest coats are grizzles, which have a mix of red hair, typically located on the back before the tail. The Poodle has many more possible color variations for their coats. Some of these colors are black, white, brown, apricot, silver, beige, red, blue, and grey. This implies that the Airedoodle can have a variety of coat colors. Oftentimes, Airedales are crossed with the Standard Poodle. For a smaller Airedoodle, the Airedale can be crossed with a Miniature Poodle. The female Airedoodle is somewhat smaller than the male Airedoodle, but not by much. Aside from a tiny size variation, the male and female Airedoodles are virtually indistinguishable. The categories are scored using the average rating of both parent breeds. The parent breed data was acquired from the American Kennel Club. Health Problems Fortunately, the Airedoodle, like many hybrids, is less prone to genetic diseases. However, as previously said, the breeder determines the quality of your Airedoodle puppy. Dermatitis Dermatitis can occur in any dog. It is mainly the inflammation of the skin [4] firstvet. Dermatitis can arise from a food allergy or a flea bite. It can also manifest through a hereditary disease called canine atopic dermatitis. Terrier breeds can be predisposed to canine atopic dermatitis [5] firstvet. Due to the Airedale parent, this is a health issue to be aware of in your Airedoodle. Hip Dysplasia Hip dysplasia is widespread in medium-sized to big dogs, such as the Airedoodle. Obesity Like most dogs, obesity can pose a problem for Airedoodles. Cataracts Cataracts may develop in the Airedoodle. This condition is caused by water imbalances in the lens of the eye, which results in a clouded lens [7] petkeen. Bloat Bloat can be a problem in large dogs. It is an issue to keep an eye out for at all times since it requires immediate medical intervention. Drooling, restlessness, pacing, and failed efforts to vomit are just a few of the symptoms that might appear suddenly. She was showing the common signs so I took her to the vet immediately. Luckily, a veterinarian was able to identify that it was not bloat. I still keep an eye out for it though! Food And Diet Because the Airedoodle is such a huge and active dog, it needs a lot of high-quality dry food to flourish. According to experts, they should be fed between two and a half and three cups of food every day, split into two meals. When assessing dog food, ensure the protein source is identified on the label. Even grain-free food, such as beans, peas, and lentils, sometimes contain high quantities of starchy carbohydrates. Giving this to a dog puts their system under stress, generating physiologically demanding insulin, glucagon, and cortisol surges throughout the day and inflammation and stress on important organs, which can lead to a variety of major health problems. As far as possible, it would be best if you tried to avoid foods labeled as containing byproducts; while they are less expensive, they are of poor quality. Price Due to the scarcity of Airedale Terriers, Airedoodles are rare designer dog breeds today. As a result, this breed is quite expensive. Are Airedoodles easy to train? Airedoodles respond well to obedience training. Even though certain breed members might be obstinate, most breed members are eager to please. Their intellect, paired with this, makes them valuable training partners. They can accomplish stunts on the first instruction after a few trials and even do intricate multistep tricks. As a puppy, work on basic commands like sit, remain, or paw. Repeat this training session one or two more times, then attempt it a couple more times every day until your pet has mastered the trick and can perform it on demand. They must be taught their position in the family and etiquette from a young age since they are huge and strong dogs. While jumping up may be cute when the Airedoodle puppy is three months old, it is much less charming when they are three years old and capable of knocking a youngster down! Are Airedoodles good family pets? Children adore the Airedoodle dog because it enjoys giving and getting attention. Training is vital to educate the youngsters to respect the dog, which will minimize unintentional nips from rough play. This breed will get along better with dogs and children with plenty of early socialization, but they seldom have any issues in most scenarios. Are Airedoodles good with other pets? The Airedoodle likes being around other pets and frequently engages in horseplay and games. They will get along with other pets even better if you socialize them early, and they will have no trouble making pals on walks or when traveling. However, you should socialize this dog as soon as possible to ensure that it has no trouble establishing friends. Regardless, it would not be the smartest move to keep this dog around rodents due to its Airedale Terrier heritage. How much exercise does an Airedoodle need? The Airedoodle, like the Airedale Terrier and Poodle, is a high-energy breed that requires a lot of stimulating exercises to be in good physical and mental shape. Your dog will need daily activity in the shape of a lengthy walk, jog, or trek. Mental stimulation is important for Airedoodles. In addition to his training and walks, the Airedoodle ideally needs a home with a fenced-in yard where he can burn off some energy. You can tame those high energy levels in any living situation so long as you dedicate time to play and activities. Are Airedoodles good guard dogs? The Airedoodle is one of the most outstanding watchdogs on the earth because of its vigilant attitude. They will scare away any prospective intruder with their loud bark and towering size. They are always on the lookout and can tell whether or not a visitor is welcome. Are Airedoodles good with kids? Airedoodles are great with children. Their sweet and gentle nature makes them the big, furry best friend that every kid wants. They are patient and non-aggressive which gives young children the opportunity to bond and learn how to care for an animal. Related Posts Interested in learning more about Doodles? If you want to get in contact with Kevin, you can send him a message. Their Airedoodle offspring can inherit either one of these or even a unique mix of the two. Because of that, Airedoodles will either have curly, wavy, or straight coats. The type of hair your fur-baby ends up with will dictate what grooming issues to expect and how much time you will need to either spend brushing them yourself or how often you will be heading off to the groomers. Poodles have curly, soft, single-layered coats that are much in demand for their so-called hypoallergenic properties. In fact, these are low-shed rather than no-shed dogs, and that comes with problems of its own. You will also need to take them more often for a trim. Airedale Terriers, in contrast, have short, wiry double-layered coats that do indeed shed. Your pal will likely lose their short, dense undercoat with the changing of the temperature and many days in between. This can be a real problem for some pet parents. You just might need to take care of the longer hair that can grow around their face, legs, and rear end. Finally, the third coat type is a wavy mix of the two — it can be long or short, soft, or wiry…pretty much anywhere on the scale between the two parents. This means you are really going to have to judge for yourself how often it will need brushing, washing, trimming, etc. However, they can be pretty tough to get hold of, being that they are not one of the most well-known or popular Doodle types. For this reason, you will likely need to hunt around for quite a bit to track down a breeder that specializes in Airedoodles. The good news is that they are far less likely to be the focus of scammers, backyard breeders, and puppy mills — all of whom should be avoided like the plague. Scammers will take your money without even having dogs, and the latter two will provide puppies that are in poor condition. See Also: Click the image With just a little research, you should be able to dig out a responsible breeder where you can purchase a super healthy puppy with excellent bloodlines. This will make all the difference in the long run. Start by checking out breeder directories from trusted expert dogs sites and reading plenty of online reviews from third-party sites to find the best facilities in your area. While there is really no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, as people are sensitive to proteins found in the skin and saliva, a dog that sheds less is less likely to cause an allergic reaction. This is because there will consequently be less skin and saliva about the place. The amount your Airedoodle puppy sheds will depend on whether they end up with a Poodle coat or a Terrier one. This is very difficult to predict at present. Are Airedoodles good family dogs? Airedoodles, like most Doodles, make excellent family dogs for the right kind of situation. Airedoodles are often big and kind of bouncy, which older kids and teens will likely love. They will be able to play fetch and other active games for hours. However, they could be a little tough to take for smaller or quieter children with their boisterous, happy natures. These dogs do well with confident, active families who spend a lot of time outdoors. How big does an Airedoodle get? Depending on whether you have opted for a Standard or Mini Airedoodle, you are going to end up with a dog that is somewhere between 20 to 40 pounds with a height to the withers of 12 to 26 inches. Your Airedoodle will likely be on the larger side, though, as most breeders will probably choose to mate the similarly-sized Airedale Terrier and Standard Poodle — this is a far easier combination. Final Thoughts If you have come across the active Airedoodle and are intrigued by these distinguished dogs, then you might be wondering if they are the right kind of Doodle for you. If you have plenty of energy and time to take your new pup on long walks and care for their lovely coat, this could be a match made in heaven. However, if you spend most of your day out of the house, one of these loving, loyal dogs may not be for you. Only you can know what will work best in your home. Hopefully, though, the details provided here can help you make the right decision for both you and your potential future pet. You Might Also Like. Life Span Did You Know? The Airedoodle is a designer mixed dog breed that is a cross between an Airedale Terrier and a Standard Poodle. The Airedoodle is meant to inherit the best characteristics of both the parent breeds, but they could have any combination of characteristics from either or both of the parent breeds. Airedoodles tend to be friendly, intelligent, loyal, and energetic dogs with a big personality. Because the Airedoodle is a mixed dog breed, they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club. With any mixed dog breed, the puppies can inherit any combination of traits from the parent breeds. Airedoodles tend to be intelligent, friendly, and filled with personality. They tend to get along well with children as well as other dogs and sometimes other pets. They can have a stubborn streak and may have a high prey drive, but early socialization and training can help curb these tendencies. Overall, Airedoodles tend to make excellent family pets and watchdogs. Airedoodles are larger sized dogs with a high energy level, which makes them a moderately adaptable dog breed. Because of this, they are best suited to larger homes with fenced-in yards where they can run. They do well in most climates, but, as with many dog breeds, are sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Although they can have an independent streak if they take more after their Airedale Terrier parent, they still thrive on being with their families. They are also highly intelligent and can be easily bored, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. For the Airedoodle, potential health conditions can include skin issues, hip dysplasia, and bloat. Talking to the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and asking to see any health clearances can help allay potential health concerns. Both of the Airedoodle parent breeds are highly intelligent. This means they tend to pick up on training quickly. If an Airedoodle takes after its Poodle parent, they will be highly trainable and a good fit for owners of any experience level, including first-time dog owners. If an Airedoodle takes after its Airedale Terrier parent, they can have a stubborn streak that may be an obstacle for first-time dog owners. Puppy training and obedience classes are recommended for novice dog owners to ensure training is effective and consistent. The Airedoodle is likely to have a low-shedding coat as both of its parent breeds have low-shedding coats. Professional grooming can help you take care of some of this, but you will need to take care of these grooming tasks as needed between professional grooming sessions. Nails that are too long can make movement painful, are more likely to split and crack, and increase the risk of getting caught on things. Dental care for dogs is another essential grooming task. Unfortunately, it is also often overlooked, which is why dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Just as you need to brush your teeth every day, the same is true for your dog. This helps prevent the tartar buildup that leads to dental disease like gum disease, tooth decay, or tooth loss. Daily walks plus some time to run and play are usually sufficient for this dog. A fully-grown Airedoodle usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. An Airedoodle generally lives years. This hybrid dog breed is most commonly called an Airedoodle, but it is sometimes also referred to as an Airedalepoo. Featured Airedoodle Article.
Friday, March 16, Puppy Surprise by Playskool I am going to veer away from my normal doll talk to share two things with you. First, an awesome toy called Puppy Surprise. Remember how I mentioned a while back about how much I like surprises? Well, this toy is perfect for me. It's perfect for a lot of kids in the year old range, too, in my experience. I think I have bought one of these for almost every kid I know in that age range. What is Puppy Surprise? It is a plush dog who is pregnant stuffed with removable puppies. The surprise is, you don't know how many puppies she has until you open the box and the dog. She could have anywhere from 2 to 4 puppies, and if she has 4, one of them is likely to be a runt. It's awesome. The puppies are also gendered, so you don't know if you're going to get boys or girls. In the early 90s, Hasbro made a similar toy, also called Puppy Surprise, but these dogs had vinyl faces. The older toys are also still available on eBay, but they tend to command higher prices, especially if the set is complete and in good shape. I like both versions, but slightly prefer the newer ones because they are all plush. A few years ago, when these started to go on clearance, I hoarded a ton of them so I could give them away as gifts. I have a few left over. Let's have some fun with them! Playskool Puppy Surprise discontinued. The dogs are about 9 inches tall and come in a fairly simple window box. The box emphasizes the surprise element, which works like a charm to get me to shell out my money: I hope it's 4! I need to know!! The box also gives you the exact odds of getting each number of puppies, which I think is very nice: 2 puppies: 1 out of every 4 boxes 3 puppies: 2 out of 4 boxes interesting 4 puppies 1 out of 4 boxes It also says that all twins are girls. The chances of having a boy are 1 in 6. Those are good odds for the fellas. Each mother dog has a pattern on her cheek called a "Pretty Patch. This way, if you have lots of these dogs, you can always reunite a mother with her original puppies by matching the patches. The gender of the puppies is indicated by the lining of their ears. If the lining is pink they're overheated girls, if it is blue, they're holding their breath boys. There are lots of different colors and styles of dog to choose from. I have seen purple poodles, pink poodles, black and white spotted dogs, pink and white spotted ones with fluffy ears, cream ones with fluffy ears, pure white ones, tan and pink ones.Playskool also made some different animals, like cats and rabbits. This one is a bit drab. She was on a massive clearance sale: You have to wrestle her out of three wire ties, and that's it. Let's get right to that part. The puppies are in the dog's belly, which opens and closes with velcro. It's nicely done and the dog has enough stuffing to be cuddly even without the puppies. Of course you can't tell how many puppies there are inside until you open her up. My kids and I used to hold every single box in the store and try to tell from the weight which ones had the most puppies. Here is the exciting moment! These dogs should come with a scalpel and sutures. It's a girl! She looks just like her mother: And it's.Who also looks just like her mother. Ah, well. These babies are essentially identical, but the way they are stuffed gives them very different personalities. The firstborn is very cute and normal and maybe a little shy-looking, and the second one has some serious attitude. She'd be telling dog jokes and running all over the place making trouble if she were real: Hey, hey! Did you hear the one about the chihuahuas and the light bulb? Ok, let's try again. I happen to have another one: This is my favorite out of all of the colors. She reminds me of my very first dog: She has a different Pretty Patch: Here we go! Puppy Surprise features a soft and huggable Mommy dog with a surprise number of puppies in her litter. Will it be three four or five puppies inside her tummy? There is no way of knowing until you get your dog home to play with! You can learn more about Puppy Surprise Dogs on the Flair website. She loved the fact that it was a surprise! There are various seasons of the Puppy Surprises toys available, all with different hair, fur and nose colours. The Mommy dogs can contain 3, 4 or 5 puppies with one having an interactive sound or bark. We were sent Cali, who is from Puppy Surprise Wave 5, and has white fur with a lilac hair and tail, as well as a glittery blue nose and a heart shaped collar. Erin loved hearing the first of the pups make her little barking and panting noises. We had 2 more, making a litter of three, and judging by the little pink bows on their backs, this little was an all female brood! I like the fact that additional puppies are available to buy separately, which is great in case you lose one, or want to add more puppies to your brood! One interactive barking pup included. Encourages nurturing imaginative play Lots of different designs, colours and characters to collect. Additional puppy packs are available individually if your child wanted to add additional puppies to their litter. Just like Lady desperately tried to lift the lid off her box by herself, these surprise interactive pups will nudge and push against the cardboard box in order to lift up the lid, separate the sides and BURST their way out out of their packaging! Predicted to be a top 10 must have toy for Christmas which lets face it, needed SOMETHING fun to happen , we were lucky enough to be able to complete a Present Pets Review with Spin Master prior to their 1st October release date and the girls were quite literally bouncing off the walls! I have to admit I was too. Hopefully the pics and our full unboxing video below will give you a good idea of Present Pets and what to expect! Here we showcase not only the live unboxing process but also visual demonstrations of each of the different interactive modes. How does the Present Pets Unboxing work? The girls were so excited when they learned we were doing a Present Pets review. Step 2 — Pull on the gift tag on the box. Once the outer layer is lifted away a small Instructions pack drops out and it is recommended that you read these first to know what to do next. The second step is to pull on the gift tag. This is impossible to miss as it is clearly marked with the word PULL! As the tag is pulled away from the Present Pets box, it triggers the automatic unboxing process. You can then sit back and watch in awe as your Present Pet unboxes from the packaging to reveal which puppy is hidden inside! Step 3 — Watch as your Present Pet Unboxing Begins As soon as the tag is removed your Present Pets toy puppy springs to life and you can hear the audible barks and yelps from inside the box as well as movements that physically move the box from side to side. .The Present Pet puppy then starts to poke and prod at the cardboard packaging, poking away 3 perforated paw prints to create holes in the box and reveal a little glimpse of what your puppy looks like! The most impressive part of the Present Pets unboxing is when not only do the paw prints get poked away by the Present Pet but the sides of the box start to be ripped away too, before the two sides split apart completely and drop open on their own to reveal the interactive Present Pet puppy sitting happily inside. The Present Pet puppy plays a happy little song as the final unboxing moments take place. First Impressions of our Present Pet Once the Present Pets box had burst open, the girls first set their sights on Cocoa, our adorable pup sitting inside. She has a large fabric shimmery ombre bow attached to her right ear, sparkly blue expressive eyes with a heart shaped patch of fur over her right eye and a cheeky sticking out tongue. She is wearing a removable collar with her name on and has super soft plush fur. After her unboxing, the Present Pet puppy is barking and already making lots of fun interactive sounds, but before play, she needs to be removed from her fixed point on the base of the box. The Present Pets pup is held in place on the base of the box by two small bone fastenings at her feet, which need to be twisted to move them into the unlock position, after which your Pup can be pulled away. What do the Present Pets do once open? The Present Pets instructions are pretty overwhelming, and I have to be honest, I really wish that toy manufacturers would use nice bright colour leaflets with good pictures or photos to make life a little bit easier for us parents! Instead, the instructions for Present Pets are quite a daunting black and white photocopy which obviously comes in lots of different languages. Despite there being a quick start guide with illustrations, it still felt a bit tricky to understand some of the elements of the interactive play. After lots of trial and error however, we have now successfully got to grips with all the play modes — there are a number of interactive options for playing with your present pet which create different modes of play. Cuddle Mode The first mode is Cuddle Mode. Erin loved pulling Cocoa in for a cuddle and tapping the back of her head. After some extended play, we found the Cocoa responds best when her head is patted firmly in a stroke like action rather than a pat or tap. To trigger excited mode you simply tickle, touch or tap the Present Pets pup on her tummy. Here she lets out of happy little yelps, licks, laughter and excited barks as her legs flick rapidly backwards and forwards, just like a child does when they are tickled! To trigger the trick mode, you need to press on the back button and tap the head. When you bark or speak to the puppy, it will respond to you and imitate you in barks. After 3 exchanges of listening and responding, the puppy will return back to standard play autonomous mode. She made some lovely little sounds when Erin spoke to her, and you can see examples on our video above. The important thing to note here is that some of the sounds are confirming whether you got it right, and are NOT part of the sound for you to copy — this caused a bit of confusion with us at first. There are two rounds in game mode and if you want to skip to Round 2 you can quickly press the back button again. Otherwise just wait and listen out for the first barks to begin. If you get it wrong bark too little or too many times, he will make a frustrated grrrr noise. There are 3 stages to round 1 and each time your child has to copy back a particular number of barks. My video footage shows this a bit clearer, so please do check this out if you want to see it in action. The puppy will start by barking a short rhythm and waiting for you to copy it by barking back the same rhythm. Again, there are 3 stages and they progress in difficulty. After a short initial rhythm the puppy then barks a medium length rhythm and waits for you to copy again. Finally the puppy barks a long rhythm and if you are able to copy it correctly the game is won! As with Round one, he makes a happy sound if you get it right, a growl if you get it wrong, and a happy dance when you complete the round. You can quit the Game mode by pressing the back button again. I will be honest, at times it did feel like they were both girls and our Present Pet were just making lots of noise and I am not sure how quickly the novelty of game mode would wear off, but both my girls were happy regardless! Present Pets toys can make over sounds and actions — we have had ours almost a week now and are still discovering new reactions. Present Pets Volume Control — Parents will be pleased to know that Present Pets do come with an off button thank you toy gods! There is however only one volume setting and no present pets volume control as such. In my opinion it is a touch on the loud side, particularly if your children are early risers! Present Pets toys require 6 AAA batteries batteries are included and these can be changed by unscrewing the paw prints on her feet 3 batteries in each paw. Our Overall Present Pets Review What we loved about the Present Pets toys: Present Pets toys have a really fun unboxing process — the Present Pet Pups really DO unbox themselves by poking and prodding their way out of the cardboard, and need absolutely NO assistance from children other than pulling the tag to trigger and start off the process. The rest is cardboard. This is a real positive, as the majority of the packaging can easily be recycled. The girls Neve in particular have played with her lots since. For parents who may need to keep things quiet when working from home or may get bored of the barking — there is the welcome addition of an off button!! How could Present Pets toys be improved? As is often the case, some of the instructions for Present Pets are a little overwhelming and I wish there was just a simple colour sheet which outlined each mode and what it did. There is a quick start guide in the instruction leaflet but even the sight of all that text is enough to put any parent off, particularly when you have an excited child raring to go! I assume more videos including mine will emerge to make it easier for you guys so hopefully that will help! Neve however, who is just under the recommended age at 4, did find this more of a difficult task. A few people have asked me since my review was published whether Present Pets toys only come in the puppy variety. At the moment, yes there are only four different puppies available, but it may be that future waves of Present Pets feature other animals like Cats and Rabbits — that would be pretty cool too!
I have a 4 month old puppy called Charlie. He is lovely. Seems very healthy and bright and approaches everything in life with great enthusiasm. I have had a black Labrador before, many, many years ago, when I was a kid — and my mum did all the work and worrying. That Labrador was from a big farm in North Yorkshire and I guess he was from "working lines". I feed Charlie on Royal Canin kibble which is what the breeder used and he gets loads and loads of treats — at puppy class clicker training, for walking without pulling, for peeing and pooing outside. Should it be about the same weight chicken for kibble? At 4 months, Charlie is the same weight 17kg now as the girl puppy that the breeder kept for herself. The breeder says that based on his mum and dad, she would guess Charlie will end up weighing, when he is grown, about 35kg. The vet says he is not too fat and is fine, and the vet nurse says the same. Is there anything else I can do to check that he is not overweight? Many thanks for reading what is probably too much information, and thank you in advance for any comments you are kind enough to give. JulieT I have tried to attach a picture… the one on the sofa shows the "puppy fat" along his back and his big tummy. Helping your dog to lose weight. Is My Labrador Fat? The best way to tell is by eye and touch. Have a look at your dog and compare him with the picture below of a healthy Labrador. Look at your dog from the side. Does his belly slope upwards towards his groin, or is it a level line from his front legs to his back, or even worse is it sagging down between his legs? Your Labrador should have an upward sloping line from the base of his chest, towards his back legs. Now look at the dog from above. You should be able to! Your dog should not be the same width all the way down his body. Look at your dog from the side again. Can you see any ribs? Run you hands along his rib cages firmly. Can you feel his ribs? If you can see ribs when he is standing still he is too thin. If you cannot feel his ribs at all with your hands he is too fat! As we have seen above, the best way to tell if you have a fat Labrador is by looking and feeling. The trouble with providing you with a number is that it can give a false impression. Depending upon whether your Lab is field or bench bred, short or tall, chunky or slight, male or female, will all make a big difference to their ideal weight for the individual. The average adult Labrador will weigh anywhere between 55 to 80 lbs! Male Labs usually being around 5 to 10 lbs heavier than their female counterparts. If you are still unsure whether your Lab is the right weight for his or her build having given her a thorough check yourself as described above, then the best thing to do is to pop down to your local veterinarian. They will be happy to let you know how much your individual Labrador should weigh. Why Is My Labrador Fat? So how did your slim little puppy end up as a fat adult Labrador? There are three common assumptions that people make when considering how their dogs came to be overweight. Does the dog need more exercise? Has he got some kind of medical problem? Or am I just feeding him too much at mealtimes or giving too many snacks? In general if your dog is overweight the real reason is simply that he has eaten too much. Or rather, been allowed to eat too much. Does my dog need more exercise? He may well need more exercise, but that is not why he is fat. He is overweight because when you take into account the amount he exercises along with a number of other factors, he has eaten too much. The exercise needs of your dog are an important but separate issue, which we look at in other articles. The important thing to remember is this: The less exercise you give the dog, the less you must feed him. Once put on, weight is hard to shift and it will simply go up and up over time. Medical causes of canine obesity Although most dogs who are overweight have simply had a few too many bites to eat, there are some medical causes for obesity which do crop up from time to time. Canine medical conditions that can affect your Labs weight include hypothyroidism, insulinoma and hyperadrenocorticism. If a medical condition is the reason then the weight gain will normally be sudden and unexpected. If you are concerned by sudden weight gain in your Lab when you have not been giving him more food, then a checkup at the vets is definitely in order. You may also find that your dog puts on weight after having been neutered. If this is the case you will need to adjust your feeding habits accordingly. However, for most dogs weight gain is a simple result of over feeding. My Labrador is always hungry People are often concerned because they worry that their dog is still hungry after eating his dinner. Here is an important truth: Most Labradors are always hungry. You cannot win this battle. These are greedy dogs and your Labrador will always want more food than you give him. No matter how much that may be. If your Labrador is overweight he really needs to eat less and he will get used to his new regime quite quickly. Are Fat Labs Less Healthy? If you have looked at your Labrador and decided he is overweight, you might be wondered whether that actually matters. Is it really worth the effort of ignoring those puppy dog eyes and whines for extra food? Slim dogs are healthier Being overweight predisposes you to an awful lot of unpleasant health problems. This is true regardless of whether you are a human or a dog. Carrying extra pounds can also make existing problems your dog may have worse. For example joint problems like arthritis and hip dysplasia can be exacerbated by having more weight to lug around. As well as joints and bones suffering from obesity related issues, increased body fat can also make your dog more likely to have problems with their organs including those needed for breathing and digestion. Just a bit of extra fat can have a host of unwanted consequences. Being a fat Lab puppy can potentially make your dog more likely to suffer from joint problems later in life. Slim dogs live longer Not only will a slim dog have a better level of fitness and a lower likelihood of becoming unwell, they will in all probability live longer too. Those Labs on the large food ration had a median lifespan of over 11 years old. Those on the smaller food ration lived to be over 13 years old. When you look at the difference which can be made in these terms, by helping your Lab to stay slim you could be giving him an incredible two more years with you! If he gets a lot of household scraps these may have to go too. If you use food as rewards in dog training, this should be deducted from his daily food allowance. It could also help to find healthier alternatives to your usual training treats. Bear in mind that if your dog is unwell, old or very young , it is sensible to consult your vet before tampering with his diet. It is also a good idea to have a chat with them beforehand if your dog is very overweight and has a lot to lose. Take a photo of him from above and from the side before you start. At the end of the three to four days, check the dog over as described above and ask yourself if he is still fat. If you think he has improved a little but needs to slim down a bit further, keep going for another three to four days then review the situation. Compare the photo you took a week ago and you should see some improvement. You may need to increase his food slightly in order to maintain his new slim figure and ensure he does not get thin. If the dog is not losing weight after a couple of weeks on two-thirds of his previous food allowance, you may need to cut his food down even further.

The range of amounts is based on the activity of your Golden for the day, either low, moderate, or high level of activity. Golden Retrievers should have scheduled times to eat daily. The scheduled times will help them with their energy levels and keep them healthy. You can schedule their eating times as to what works best for your schedule. For example, feeding them before you leave for work and then when you get home. As a puppy, they will eat three times a day, so you will need to find times in those first few months to feed them more often. When they are an adult or senior, the scheduling of feeding times will be easier because they will only eat twice daily. For a Golden Retriever puppy, the best feeding schedule is once in the morning, noontime, and in the evening. For example, you could feed their first meal at am, lunch at noon, then dinner at pm. Planning their mealtimes around your mealtimes will often make it easier for you and the puppy. Make sure to give them plenty of time after eating to got to the bathroom a couple of times before heading to bed. Hopefully, this will help them sleep for a longer period. After about six months, your Golden Retriever can go down to two daily feedings. This usually occurs once in the morning and once in the evening. They can usually last about 12 hours between meals. If it goes past 12 hours, they could become nauseated. Golden Retrievers can experience food allergies often caused from proteins in dairy or meat products. If your dog experiences symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or itching they may have a food allergy. They warn that feeding dogs any raw animal-source protein could cause illness because it has not gone through a process to remove harmful pathogens. However, a raw diet can be healthy if you are willing to go through the extra cleaning processes of the meat. This is a lot of work and difficult to do correctly and safely. We do not recommend it without expert veterinary help. Before starting a raw diet with your Golden, be sure to consult a veterinarian. Find one that is familiar with raw foods and can help with the proper handling of the foods. If you work hard to make sure your homemade foods are rich in the vitamins and minerals that a dog needs, then it might work for your Golden Retriever. It takes a lot more time to find recipes and make sure it has all the nutritional value of a store-bought dog food. If you are willing to research expertly formulated recipes internet is making it easier to do this , and take the time to cook for your golden then go for it! Consulting your veterinarian is a must before starting any homemade diet. A veterinary nutritionist should also review your plan before starting. Feeding your Golden Retriever table food is not the best practice but a small amount of dog healthy table food is fine. Some example table foods that are healthy for them are carrots, blueberries and plain yogurt. Just be aware that feeding them too much table food can throw their entire diet out of whack. They may not be getting enough vitamins and minerals like they do from their dog food. Conclusion Making sure your Golden Retriever is getting the right foods at the right amounts will help them live their best life. There are many choices of foods with all the right ingredients. Be sure to choose one that works best for you and your Golden. Consult with your veterinarian on which food will bring the most nutritional value to the health of your Golden Retriever. If your Golden is experiencing any health issues related to changing foods, visit your veterinarian. If this article was helpful, please consider sharing this post on Facebook with the button below! Being a large and energetic dog, your golden retriever has a ravenous appetite and can eat a lot. However, overfeeding is never good and could be avoided with the help of a golden retriever feeding chart. Knowing how much to feed your golden retriever is always tricky but essential for their well-being and health. Goldens are prone to obesity and joint problems, which can only be exacerbated with an inadequate feeding plan. So, stay with me to find the right feeding plan and meal schedule for your goldie. Most first-time owners think their puppies should be chubby. In truth, golden retriever puppies are supposed to look lanky and act like they are always hungry when fed the correct amount of food. To encourage proper growth and development without making your pup obese, you will have to know how much to feed a golden retriever puppy. For example, cheaper foods use fillers and have a smaller amount of calories, thus you will have to feed more than you would when using premium large breed puppy foods. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. We all want our golden retriever puppies to be healthy and happy. We envision them running through a verdant field chasing a ball. Full of energy with the beautiful, lustrous golden coat. But, just like us, eating the proper food in the proper amounts will help your golden properly grow and thrive. After all, what we eat impacts how healthy we are. How much you should feed your golden retriever puppy will vary depending on the quality of food you feed, his age, his weight, his general health, and his activity level. Your golden will be growing for up to two years. And the amount of food during that time will have to be adjusted depending on his needs. Because most people feed kibble to their pup, this article will focus on that. Kibble is convenient and cost effective. Instead, they should be lanky and full of energy. They should love to eat their food with gusto. Instead, you should be able to feel his ribs when you pet him there. There should just be a thin coating of fat under his skin. And he should have a defined waistline. Of course you should check with your veterinarian to make such adjustments. And remember a young puppy should get only so much exercise a day. Their joints and bones are developing and can be damaged if the exercise is too extreme. Assuming you have an eight-week-old puppy, he should receive three to four meals a day. From eight weeks old until about five or six months old, three meals per day are advisable. Of course, feed at the same intervals every day and split the total amount per day in half to be given at each feeding. After about six months of age through adulthood, two feedings per day are the norm. Always check with your vet regarding how much and how often to feed. These are just guidelines. Feed him at the same distraction-free location so that he focuses on eating. As much as goldens love to eat, a young golden puppy is also very easily distracted. This can lead to possible health problems, including joint and bone problems. Goldens can easily become overweight. Free feeding can also lead to a picky eater. Some puppies figure out that if their buffets are always there, and they can just go graze at will. Most foods you purchase will have guidelines on their bag or box. When you first get your puppy, feed him the same food that the breeder or rescue fed him for a few weeks. Then, if you want to change his food, do so over at least 10 days. Add more of the new food and subtract more of the old food each day. After about five days, you should be giving him approximately 50 percent of the new food and 50 percent of the old food. Switching food over such a period of time will help prevent stomach upsets and diarrhea. Overfeeding will result not only in him becoming overweight but it will also make him grow too fast. Periodically—even weekly— test whether you can still feel his ribs without them protruding. You can then increase the amount he eats. You should also feed his last meal of the day at least 90 minutes before his bed time so that he can digest his food and potty before bed. A well-balanced, high-quality food should provide all the nutrients he requires. Golden puppies require a formula made for large-breed dogs. Puppy formulas for large-breed dogs regulate their growth. Eating too quickly can lead to digestive upsets and even bloat, which can be deadly. I rescued my golden retriever Riley when he was about six months old. To say that he ate as if it were his last meal would be an understatement. He had a voracious appetite. I bought one of the maze bowls to slow him down. The kibble is placed between each section of the bowl, and he had to forage for his food. It worked! He ate at a more normal pace. Of course, dogs should be given free access to fresh water. Other Feeding Options Although I concentrated in this article on feeding kibble to your new puppy, there are other options. There are some drawbacks to them because they may not be nutritionally complete, may be cost prohibitive, or may be too time-consuming to make. Wet Food Canned food alone or mixed with kibble is an option. But wet food alone is very expensive. He may become a picky eater. Feeding raw is controversial. Dehydrated raw foods reduce some of the risks. The ratio of calcium to phosphorous is crucial to puppy development. Homemade Diet Cooking for your best friend can be very appealing. And many people do. You know what ingredients and their quality are. But it has its drawbacks. Of course, the amount you feed is important for his growth rate and general health and well-being. But there is no one-size-fits-all in determining how much to feed a golden retriever puppy. Any amounts you see are just guidelines. Adjust them as necessary regarding your own special puppy. If you are bringing a Goldie into your family, you might also be aware of their reputation as food lovers. Your Goldie might want to eat anything and everything you put in their bowl — and maybe even anything left on an unattended plate. In this Golden Retriever feeding guide, Hypro Premium will take you through everything you need to know when it comes to food options for your pup. The best food for most young puppies is milk. If you are weaning a puppy, you can start to mix in a little dry kibble with their puppy milk to create a paste. You can feed this mix to your puppy up to four times a day, slowly reducing the amount of milk you mix in. Over time, your Goldie puppy will get more comfortable with solid foods, until you no longer need to include any milk in their diet. While chubby little puppies are cute, your Goldie should not build up too much excess fat once you start feeding them solids. Goldies go from a small 4kg puppy at 7 weeks old to an almost 30 kg adult dog in the space of only 10 months. At six months old your puppy will still be growing, but more slowly as they reach most of their body development milestones. This is why appropriate feeding in the first year of their life is vital to the overall health of your Goldie for years to come. Over time this can increase to up to 4 cups a day at 10 months old, though females should usually only need 3 cups a day. The amount you feed your puppy is often dependent on their size and sex. While they may have some growing left to do, it depends on your dog. Some Goldies will continue to experience growth spurts before their second birthday, while others will stay the same size. Large breeds can be at risk of growing too fast, which can make them more vulnerable to skeletal and weight problems when they get older. Golden retrievers are especially prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, which can be avoided through diet control. You should feed your Goldie between 3 — 4 cups of food per day over two meals. Adult dogs and puppies have different nutritional needs. This is important to take into consideration as you are establishing a feeding schedule for a Golden Retriever puppy. Puppies require more calories to support their rapid growth than adult dogs, but they also have much smaller stomachs, which means they get fuller faster. Because of this, puppies can easily overeat, especially Golden Retrievers. You can help your puppy avoid overeating by allowing them a short amount of time to eat, and then removing their bowl. All puppies grow a lot during their first year, but large breed puppies are more likely to suffer from negative health consequences as a result. In order to provide your Golden Retriever puppy with the most appropriate food to support their rapid growth, consider choosing a large breed puppy food. Goldie puppies need lots of protein, fibre, and fatty acids to support the development of their bodies and provide them with energy. These foods also take into account the difference in nutrient digestion between small and large breeds. Too much of these nutrients can cause your large breed puppy to develop skeletal abnormalities. So how much do you feed a Golden Retriever? Your adult Goldie could need anywhere between and 1, calories per day. The amount of food you feed your dog will be determined by a few important factors. The first thing to consider is the sex of your dog. On average, your male Golden Retriever will need slightly more food than a female dog. Senior dogs will usually be less active and so will need less food. Goldies in particular can have a lot of variation in the amount of food they need on a daily basis. No matter how much you feed your dog, it is ideal that you feed your adult Golden Retriever two meals a day at evenly spaced time intervals. Feeding your dog twice, once in the morning and again in the evening, can be useful for establishing a routine and avoiding overfeeding. This routine can also include exercise, and is useful for encouraging healthy behaviour around food and toilet training. Special Considerations Your Golden Retriever could be predisposed to several health conditions that are important to consider when you make decisions about their diet. Firstly, Golden Retrievers are known for their beautiful coats, but their skin can often become infected. Goldies love swimming, but this can cause problems if water irritates their skin. They can also be susceptible to atopic dermatitis, which causes extreme itchiness, resulting in licking and biting behaviours in dogs that can cause even more damage. For dogs prone to skin and coat issues, a fish-based diet can help alleviate symptoms. Fish contains plenty of fatty acids, which support coat and skin health, and rarely triggers any allergic reaction in dogs. Goldies often benefit from healthy grains in their diet, especially as avoiding them can actually leave your dog more vulnerable to nutritional dilated cardiomyopathy, or nutritional DCM. This heart disease is common in Golden Retrievers, and can be triggered by consuming too much grain-free pet food that contains legumes like lentils and peas. You should consider feeding your Golden Retriever foods that are full of grains and proteins like chicken or fish. These are the benefits and drawbacks of the three most popular options — wet food, a raw food diet, and dry food. Wet food can be a great option for dogs that need plenty of protein and fat, like working dogs or dogs with certain health conditions. It also hydrates your dog while they eat, which can be useful for dogs suffering from any illness. For dogs with highly restrictive diets, raw food prepared by you can be a great way to avoid allergens. You can have complete control over a raw diet, which does require a lot more work on your part, but can have great results. For instance, a Golden Retriever with heart issues should eat a low salt diet, which can be easier to achieve if you are preparing their meals from scratch. However, low quality kibbles tend to be made up of a lot of low quality fillers, which can be hard for your pup to digest. Whatever option you choose for your Goldie, make sure it is suitable for large breeds and contains high quality ingredients. This will help prevent degenerative health disorders in the long run. Your Golden Retriever will probably love food, and will probably try to eat anything you put in front of them, which means you need to help them avoid the negative consequences of overeating. Golden retrievers, like other large and active breeds, need plenty of exercise. Not only is this vital to their physical health, but it also ensures they grow up well socialised and mentally stimulated. As your Goldie grows from a puppy to an adult dog, the amount of meals they need a day will reduce as their digestive systems become more developed. Your dog will need two meals a day, once in the evening and once in the morning, from the age of 6 months. There is also info on how to keep your puppy and your adult at his or her optimum weight. Scroll down to find growth charts to make sure your puppy is growing at the proper rate and is within the right weight range for his age. If you are looking for information on what to feed, go to How to Choose a Dog Food. Unlike with human children, a puppy that is overfed will grow too fast before they grow too fat. A good example is where a smaller puppy at 10 weeks was overfed and his growth was compared to a puppy that was correctly fed. The growth of your puppy needs to be controlled. General Guidelines for Puppies Below are some general guidelines on how much to feed puppies. Most dog food bags suggest feeding too much. Increase to about 3 cups a day by 5 months for boys and by 6 months for girls. Golden Retrievers at this age are supposed to look lanky and all Golden Retrievers act like they are starving when fed the correct amount. If left to eat as much as they want, they will all grow too fast. In the wild, dogs do not have unlimited access to eat as much as they want. They work for their food. Caloric Needs Greatly Decrease at About a Year When puppies reach about months, their caloric needs begin to decrease. Some males might need 4 cups if active and are fed a less expensive food. Make sure you take into consideration the number of extra calories being fed as treats. You should be able to feel their ribs, but not see them even when the dog is wet. If you can see the ribs, increase their food. Decrease the food if you cannot feel them. I always tell people that it is better to underfeed than to overfeed, especially when feeding puppies. Weight Range Charts Following are charts of how puppies should generally grow in weight. Keep in mind that very few puppies need to be at the top of these ranges and if you cannot feel ribs, your dog is overweight even if she is in this weight range. If your dog is still a puppy and she is over these weight ranges, you are feeding her too much. Female Golden Retriever Weight Chart Here is a chart of how girls should generally grow in weight: 2 Months — pounds.

A maltipoo with more maltese in their genes will have a thinner, softer and straighter coat. It will be easier to groom. Size The maltipoo is a small cross breed. Their size will vary depending on whether they are mixed with a toy poodle or miniature poodle. Generally, the male puppies are usually larger than female puppies. Their size makes them unsuitable for families with kids younger than five years old, as they can be injured by rough handling. If you do have young children, look for maltipoos bred from miniature poodles as they will be a little bigger and therefore hardier. Supervise your children when playing with your maltipoo and teach them to handle it gently. This breed of dog is perfect for those who want to have a pet but are living in limited space. The Teacup Maltipoo remains fairly small even when it has reached its full size, which means you can bring this little guy with you wherever life may take you! They usually weigh around 2 kilos and stand at about 15 cm tall — see image below. These dogs usually grow to about ten pounds and are eight-ten inches tall when they reach adulthood! Most people use the term Miniature Maltipoo to refer to these dogs because their weight should be between 5 to 12 kilos, which is larger than other breeds in this category. Miniatures can weigh up to 12 kilos, but most tend toward 5 kilo or less. Temperament Maltipoos are very gentle and affectionate companion dogs. They love nothing more than to spend time with their humans and have a cuddle on your lap. They are best suited to owners who will be able to spend a lot of time with them and who want a dog they can become best friends with. Maltipoo puppies are playful and fun. They love to chase a ball outside or play tug-of-war with their owners. They will play with other pets too if they are socialised from a young age. The maltipoo temperament is very sensitive and they can get stressed out by loud noises, new environments or being punished angrily. Be calm and gentle with your maltipoo and always train it using positive reinforcement techniques. Like most small dog breeds, if they are worried about something they will bark to alert their humans. However, they are too affectionate to ever be aggressive. Whilst they can be timid, pet parents and maltipoo lovers all agree that they are very friendly dogs. They make great therapy dogs and wonderful family pets. Health Maltipoos are overall a very healthy dog breed. Their life expectancy is 14 years. Crossbreeding dogs lowers their likelihood of genetic health problems, meaning they have fewer health issues than purebred dogs. It is important to desex and vaccinate your new maltipoo puppy. You should also take proper measures to prevent ticks, fleas and worms. If you suspect your maltipoo dog is unwell, always take it to a vet. Even healthy dogs should be taken to the vet annually for a check up. Maltipoos as Pets Hypoallergenic Dog The maltipoo breed is classified as a hypoallergenic dog. This makes them a popular pet choice for those who have a family member with dog allergies. Poodles are hypoallergenic so maltipoos get this trait from their poodle parent. The more poodle they have in their genes, the more hypoallergenic they will be. People with dog allergies not only react to dog hair but also dog saliva and dander dead skin flakes. Therefore, some people with severe dog allergies may still have a mild reaction to maltipoos. Grooming Your maltipoo will need regular grooming to keep its coat looking clean and smelling fresh. Dogs with more poodle genes have a coarser coat that is more prone to getting matted. It will need more regular care. Dogs with more maltese genes have a smoother coat that is easier to look after. Brush your maltipoo at home often to avoid knots in their fur. It is recommended you take your pet maltipoo to a professional groomer every six weeks to have their fur washed, trimmed, nails cut, tear stains wiped from their eyes and ears cleaned out to avoid ear infections. Brush its teeth regularly at home or feed it doggie dental treats to prevent gum disease. Daily Exercise Requirements The maltipoo is a small breed and therefore they are not high energy dogs. The larger a maltipoo is, the more energy it will typically have. They are suitable for apartments or houses with small backyards and owners usually choose to keep them inside, sleeping in a small dog kennel or crate. However, they still need daily exercise to keep them happy and healthy. A regular exercise routine will wear your maltipoo out both physically and mentally. The best way to exercise your maltipoo is by taking it on a daily walk, until it is tired. You can also throw a toy around the backyard to help wear it out more. The maltipoo is prone to running away from its owners and therefore should be left on its leash unless you are in a secure dog park or fenced yard. Training The maltipoo is an intelligent dog, thanks to their poodle parent. Whilst it will vary between each individual dog, most maltipoos are easy to train and can be potty trained quite quickly. Starting obedience training from an early age will be most effective. But it is never too late to train your maltipoo! Maltipoo puppies need to be trained using positive reinforcement and praise. They can get stressed by aggressive tactics which will only hinder their progress. A maltipoo may develop separation anxiety so it is important to train them from an early age that it is okay to be left alone. The maltipoo is a social dog and naturally loves being around humans. However, it is important to socialise them with other dogs and other animals from an early age. This will prevent any fears developing and teach them it is okay to be around other dogs without barking or misbehaving. Feed your pet maltipoo a high quality diet. Dry food is best as it keeps their teeth clean and encourages healthy bowel movements. However, many maltipoo owners feed their dog a mix of wet and dry food without any issues. Wet food is typically tastier to your dog and therefore what they prefer to eat. As they are a small breed, it is best to feed them two meals per day breakfast and dinner rather than just one big meal once a day. A maltipoo puppy will need to be fed more often than an adult as they are growing and require more energy. Always feed treats sparingly — save them for special occasions and for training. Eating too many treats may lead to obesity and related health issues. Maltipoos for Sale Welcoming a maltipoo into your life as your newest family member is a big and exciting decision. Let us help you… Where to Buy and Price Designer dogs, such as maltipoos and other poodle mixes, are becoming increasingly popular. They are therefore more expensive than many breeds. It may cost extra if you require the puppy to be delivered to you, especially if it has to travel on a plane. There is often a very high demand for maltipoo puppies and other popular designer dog breeds. Breeders will most likely require you to pay a non-refundable deposit and go on a waiting list. Most breeders will sell their maltipoo puppies when they are weeks old. By then, they should have already seen a vet and received their first vaccinations. Do lots of research and find a registered maltipoo breeder you feel comfortable with. Ask them lots of questions, visit the home the puppies live in and only buy from reputable breeders that treat their dogs well. Maltipoo puppies from reputable breeders will generally have less health issues and often come with a health guarantee. This is because they do genetic testing on their dogs to avoid common health problems. Health clearances from the Canine Eye Registry Foundation will show you they have a minimised chance of eye issues such as progressive retinal atrophy. Avoid buying maltipoo puppies from a pet store. While it may be convenient, your designer dog may then come from a puppy mill. Do not support puppy mills as their dogs often live in poor conditions and are mistreated. Adult Maltipoos Another great option is adopting an adult maltipoo who is in need of a family. You could contact local animal shelters or rescue groups to see if they have any available. It is rare to find poodle hybrid breeds or small dogs that have been given up for adoption but it is worth a look to give an older dog a second chance at life. This covers them being desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and checked by a vet.

It is essential that the dog crate is never used as punishment — the crate must always be regarded as a safe and special retreat. Gates Puppies are curious creatures that often need boundaries. Use a gate to limit access to certain areas of your home and reduce unwanted chewing or house soiling. Introduce your dog to small sections of the house at a time. We prefer the walk-through gate for easy mobility through the house. Embroidered on percent cotton canvas, and if it gets a little dirty, simply pop it into the washing machine, air dry, and it'll be back on your furniture in no time. The rubber backing prevents slipping when your guests wipe their paws before stepping inside. It's hilarious enough to be a favorite gift for any golden lover on your list, too! Perfect for the dog park, running errands, around the house, or really anywhere you please! The design can also be used on totes, hats, and more. However, avoid retractable leashes whenever possible: Although they seem easier during walks, retractable leashes are actually dangerous, especially for young puppies who are still getting the hang of walking on a leash. Keep your puppy on a regular leash with a maximum of six feet of space between you both. Snowy Pines recommends slip leads: Slip leads are what puppies are taught to walk on from a young age at Snowy Pines, since they give you as the walker more control over the puppy as he gets the hang of normal walks. You can also opt for an embroidered collar if your puppy seems bothered by the noise or extra weight of the dog tags. Many puppy owners choose embroidered collars since dog tags should be removed when the puppy is left alone as they can pose a hazard. You can stick with a small food and water bowl. Puppy Food Your puppy will need high-quality food to grow strong! In most cases, this means his own dog crate. A good dog crate should be large enough for him to stand up, turn around, and lay down comfortably. You can choose a crate that expands as it grows to save money in the long run. Most of our puppies at Snowy Pines will do well in a inch wire kennel with a divider that you can remove once he gets bigger. Be sure to check out our dog bed reviews too! Remember that most toys should not be left alone with your puppy since unsupervised playtime can lead to a choking or blockage incident. Image Source Puzzle Toys Puzzle toys keep your pup mentally stimulated while they also have fun. Additionally, these interactive toys provide help with weight management, satisfy natural hunting instincts, and even relieve feelings of stress or anxiety. These toys can easily become a comfort item and help curb any potential anxiety as well. Chase Toys Golden puppies need to have regular exercise. Chase toys are simple things you can buy at any pet store, like ropes and balls, but some interactive chew toys are designed to add a little zing to your daily play routines. So, for example, if your puppy just woke up from his nap and pottied, but you need to do laundry and load the dishwasher, the exercise pen is a perfect solution. It enables your pup to enjoy safe solo playtime. Training Treats Food is a powerful reinforcer , so treats are incredibly beneficial in the early stages of puppy training. Try offering him a treat when he potties outside or uses a chew toy. Quick Tip: The treat should be small and chewy so that he can eat it fast and keep his attention on you! With the proper carpet cleaner and enzyme spray, you can quickly combat any potty mistakes anywhere in the house. Dog Shampoo and Conditioner The Retriever family has a unique, double-layered coat designed to keep them warm in winter and cool in summer. It also dries quickly after becoming wet. It is such an impressive coat that it is essentially self-cleaning when it comes to dirt and debris. Pooper Scooper and Poop Bags A pooper scooper is a handy tool that many homeowners with yards find essential. Instead of bending down every time your pup goes, you can use a pooper scooper to clutch onto the waste and quickly throw it in your outside garbage bin. They are also expected as a common courtesy to other people outside. So before your English Cream Golden puppy comes home, be sure that your home, backyard, and car are puppy-safe and puppy-proofed. In the Home: Image Source Keep the toilet lid closed. Believe it or not, open toilet lids have the potential to be drowning hazards. Secure medicine and cleaning products. Keep these products high up or use childproof locks and latches on lower cabinets. Garbage should be kept lidded and secure. Lidded, secured bins are the best type of garbage cans you can have with a young puppy. Not only do you want to avoid spilled garbage, but a locked lid will prevent your puppy from getting into any potential hazards. Hide electrical cords and blind cords. Exposed electrical cords and long blind cords can prove to be fatal for curious puppies. Keep electrical cords hidden away, buy cord wraps to keep them safely covered, and be sure that your blind cords are tied high and inaccessible. Invest in a pet or baby gate. Gates can be used for doorways or staircases to keep your puppy away from certain areas of the house. In the Backyard: Be careful of plants and landscaping that may be poisonous or dangerous. Many plants are toxic to dogs , so be sure to triple-check if any are growing in your yard. Secure your yard with fencing and add gates around bodies of water. If you plan to let your puppy roam freely in your backyard, you should have complete fencing with no puppy-sized gaps around the perimeter of the property. If you have any ponds or pools, block them off with appropriate fencing to avoid accidental drowning. Keep your yard landscaped and manicured. Long grass and brushy areas can invite ticks, which can be extremely dangerous if any potential bites are not discovered early on. Generally speaking, your grass should not be higher than a couple of inches and potentially even shorter while your puppy is still young. In the Car: Image Source Move any chewable items and lock loose items in the glovebox. Confine your puppy in one area of the vehicle, like the backseat. Keeping your puppy confined to one area of the car is safe for everyone. Many puppy parents choose harness seat belts and car seats for younger dogs, while older dogs are big enough to safely sit in the back seat or trunk with cargo barriers. As your Golden Retriever gets older, you may find yourself opting for different barrier methods that will better suit his size. Kennel your puppy while in the car. Crating your puppy is the safest mode of transportation while in the car. Deciding on a Daily Routine Like children, puppies thrive on a fixed routine because an orderly one instills structure and confidence. Sticking to a schedule can also help reinforce potty training and prevent behavioral issues , like separation anxiety and barking or whining. Think of a schedule that works best for your puppy, which should include: Feeding: Pick out regular meal times and stick to them as closely as possible. Golden Retriever puppies will need three daily feedings until they are six months old. After that, stick to feeding twice a day at the same time each day. Fixed meal times will help you predict when your puppy needs to potty each day, which better ensures easier potty training. Scheduled potty breaks: Take your puppy out to the yard or on a walk to potty immediately after a meal and after they wake up to enforce a schedule that will help with house training. Playtime and exercise: Playing and mental stimulation are key to a happy puppyhood. Even though they will mellow out in personality as they become adults, Retriever puppies are high energy! Place the dog crate in a quiet part of the house since we kennel train at Snowy Pines, and it helps ensure their safety and comfort. And now is the exciting part: Your puppy is finally home! But now what? Puppy Socialization Socialization is vital for young puppies, especially between 8 to 16 weeks of age: A well-socialized puppy will grow into a happy and confident adult that feels secure in various situations. You can also invite friends and family over to meet the puppy. In this case, more is always merrier! To help your puppy feel comfortable around humans in general, expose him to different types of people when he is still young. We also recommend holding off on public settings like dog parks until your puppy is settled into his new home and routine so as to not overwhelm him. Once your puppy is vaccinated, you can consider signing him up for puppy socialization classes. These classes, alongside training courses, can help prepare your pup for a long walk or a day at doggy day camp. Training Techniques Training is just as essential as early socialization. He may become disruptive and exhibit poor behaviors like jumping on visitors, chewing on furniture, and barking incessantly, among other frustrating challenges. Your puppy may also struggle with separation anxiety. They will comprehend basic commands and learn things such as his name, housebreaking, and early manners. They will be able to take on more advanced training and commands, and they should understand what good dog manners are. This age is essential when it comes to instilling how you want him to behave through adolescence. Puppies will begin teething at this point. Your new puppy might use anything possible to exercise his teeth, so you must start teaching him not to use your hand or furniture as chew toys. Anytime your puppy chews on something undesirable, have a toy nearby to put in his mouth instead. You can also try using bitter apple spray to deter biting and chewing on household items. Be firm but loving with clear, consistent commands and minute training sessions each day. Quick Tip: Keep in mind that at this age, this is when the key socialization period ends for your puppy: From this point forward, everything your puppy has learned will influence the way he behaves around people and other animals. While this is good, this age will also be a challenge because he will try to determine his ranking in the household, which can be frustrating when hormones play a role! Although spaying and neutering are standard for most breeds around six months old, studies have found that doing so for Golden Retrievers can actually increase the risk for joint disorders. Therefore, the standard for this breed has recently changed, and many vets suggest waiting to spay or neuter until 12 to 24 months. Training can be an overwhelming process, which is why many Golden puppy owners opt for working with a dog trainer or enrolling in training classes. Snowy Pines offers three levels of training when adopting one of their golden retrievers, which can save you tons of time and frustration in the long run. At your first checkup, you can also ask about getting your puppy microchipped! Read the full disclosure here. This comprehensive list covers all the essentials, plus some added extras. Food: Every dog needs food! See our puppy food guide for recommendations. Bowls: Your puppy is going to need something to eat that food from. Something to think about. Bedding: Your pup will need a comfortable bed to call their own. You can decide whether to choose a puppy-sized one or one that they can grown into. To avoid buying more than one crate, you can get one big enough to fit your adult golden and make it puppy-sized using dividers. Brushes: Get your puppy some brushes suitable for a longer-coated dog. The sooner you get pup used to being brushed, the easier it will be in the future. Toothbrush and toothpaste: These are daily essentials in your grooming routine. Be sure to choose a dog-specific toothpaste as the human stuff can be dangerous to canines. Treats: Essential for training. Pick high-value treats for when you really want to motivate your pup. Chew toys are essential to help direct chewing away from your belongings. Tug toys, balls to play fetch and treat-dispensing toys are also nice to have. Travel harness or dog guard: To keep your dog safe in the car. These are the main things you need to think about when puppy proofing your home. Put them up high or away in their proper place. Not only will it leave you out of pocket if your pup chews something expensive, many such items are also choking hazards. Be careful of plants: Make sure you remove any plants that are poisonous to dogs , both in your house and your garden. Common offenders include foxglove, wisteria and yew. Secure medicines and cleaning products: Both medicines and cleaning products can be highly toxic to dogs if ingested. Hide electrical cords: If a puppy sinks their teeth into an electrical cord, it can prove fatal. Try not to have electrical cords running across the room or out in the open where your puppy can get to them. If needs be, you can get cord concealers, cord wraps or even pvc pipes to secure them. Planning Appropriate Puppy Socialization Socialization, with both humans and other dogs plus other animals, if your new puppy is going to be around them , is one of the most important things to think about with your new puppy. A well-socialized puppy should turn into an adult dog who interacts well with all dogs and people, which makes your life so much easier as a dog-owner. It might sound a bit over the top, but it will stop your pup from getting confused or overstimulated and it sets some ground rules for the humans involved, too. Pick out regular meal times for your puppy and try to stick to them as closely as possible. Also take your puppy out into the garden on a schedule, as this will really help with toilet training. You can also schedule in training sessions, play sessions and, when your puppy is old enough, their daily walks. Learning How To Train Your Puppy You might think that training your new dog will be intuitive when you get them home, but dog training is a skill you learn, not one you just pick up as you go along. Once your puppy is old enough, group puppy training classes are an excellent idea. Not only will you learn more about training your pup, your dog will also get to socialize with other young canines. The ideal option is to have the puppy in the back seat in a car harness and have a passenger sit next to them, who can hold, pet and comfort them on the journey home. Some people forgo the harness altogether and have a passenger simply hold the puppy, wrapped in a blanket or towel. However, before you even get your puppy into the car, you should try to get them to relieve themself first , to avoid any toilet-based accidents on the journey home. Once you get your precious pup home, all that effort and preparation will have been worth it to give your new four-legged friend the best start in life. You May Also Like. We use the 8mm size for our dogs. Alvalley is a high quality brand for all lengths. For an adult dog, use an 8 mm or larger. For a young puppy, an 8 mm leash works fine, but I prefer the smaller 6 mm Alvalley Snap Lead one for ease of use when working at home. This size fits easily into the outside pocket of a treat bag. If going for a walk, use a more substantial leash such as the 8 mm Alvalley leash. For at-home use, a 6 mm collar is fine. I like to attach a snap lead permanently to a martingale collar for ease of use. The collar and leash can easily be slipped off and on as needed. Puppies and even some dogs like to chew the plastic ones. At 10 weeks of age, we are using very small bowls for ease of use during training. Golden Retrievers tend to act like they are starving and eat too fast, even at their correct weight. These bowls slow them down so that they will come closer to chewing their food than inhaling it. I like to use buckets instead of bowls for water. Puppies love to dig in their water which makes a mess out of it. Hang the bucket on the outside of the crate by the handle that is on the bucket. Then attach the clip for security by using only one side of the clip to attach the handle to the crate. Leave the other end of the clip just hanging. Never put water inside a crate with a dog. I recommend the 2-quart size for one or two big dogs. This size is also a good size for a puppy. I use two snaps to stabilize the bucket. Though wire crates usually have a divider so that you can size the crate down, we recommend that you go ahead and purchase a 24 inch wire crate along with the correct size for your dog when he is grown. Most puppies can use the 24 inch crates for about 2 months after they are weeks of age. It is also helpful to have a smaller crate when traveling. If you want this option with a Summer Brook puppy, you can have a small icrate shipped to our home address for you to pick up when you get here. The best size crate for adult girls is a 36X24X27 inch wire crate. For an adult boy, use either a 42X28X30 or 36X24X27 inch wire crate. We prefer wire crates in most cases because they give more ventilation and Golden Retrievers like it to be cool. Midwest Life Stages : These are heavy duty and come in both double or single door options. I prefer the crate with the double door because you will have the opportunity to use it turned sideways with the entrance on the side as well as the end. The Icrates are also two inches shorter and two inches narrower than the Life Stages crate. They are larger at the bottom than the top so they fit better in the back of an SUV or van. They are crash tested and have excellent safety records. These crates are a bit difficult to set up and take down so we only recommend them for those that want a crate that stays in a vehicle most of the time. They are perfect for families that take their dogs with them a lot and want a somewhat permanent fixture in their vehicle. This crate is very lightweight and sets up and folds down quickly and easily. We love these crates for motels and dog shows. Wood Crate Denhaus Townhaus : I recommend this crate if looks are important to you. This crate looks just like a nice end table. Though it was expensive, mine has held up well for several years. Crate Pad Primo Pads: These are my favorite crate pads. They are made of a heavy-duty vinyl and I have yet to have a dog chew one up. The vinyl is cool so that my dogs like them even in the summer. They come in a big variety of sizes so that they will fit your crate like a glove. These pads are not sold anywhere except from the manufacturer. Order your Primo Pads here. This is a raised cot-like bed that is cool and comfortable. There is a new Kuranda Bed that we have not tried ourselves but it looks amazing. It is a raised cot like the aluminum bed that we have loved for years but it is sized to fit perfectly into a crate! We have purchased both the aluminum as well as the less-expensive PVC Kuranda beds. Our aluminum beds still look brand new but our PVC beds are starting to warp a little after a few years. We like the Ballistic Nylon fabric which has held up for us for several years. The large is the correct size for both boy and girl Goldens. We have two of them and they are as comfortable as many human beds. We have the extra-large size but a large would be plenty big enough for a girl. At first, your puppy will have to be watched almost every minute when they are out of the crate or pen in order to establish good potty habits and also to teach them not to chew. Until you teach them otherwise, some puppies will try to chew everything, including the furniture and even the woodwork on the walls so I have found the pen to be a huge help. If you get a pen, you need to begin training your puppy not to jump on the sides right away. Never pet your puppy or let him out while he is jumping. Reward him for sitting. They open and close easily and in both directions. The Richell Pens look really super nice. They also can be set up as room dividers. We own at least a dozen sets of these pens and have used them in a large number of configurations. However, like most exercise pens, many puppies will eventually learn to climb or jump out of them. Families must be on top of training their puppy not to jump on the sides. Unlike the Richell pen, most, if not all pens have doors that open in only one direction. If you get one of these pens, set your pen up so that the door opens to the outside. If you are getting your puppy from a breeder other than Summer Brook, plastic pens are a good option for a 7 to 10 week old puppy. It is easier to house train if you start off not allowing your puppy in too large of an area. It also has the added convenience of being able to be easily removed by simply pushing a button that locks it in place. However, this gate must be mounted to the wall. Baby Gates that are Mobile Regalo Extra WideSpan Walkthrough Safety Gate : This gate can span a space inches For a pressure-mounted gate, the Regalo gates do very well and are a good simple solution if you only want a gate for a few months until your puppy is house-trained and can be given the full run of the house. However, understand that many puppies cannot be totally trusted in large areas until they are over 6 months of age. It takes some until they are close to a year. Doggy Door Why to Use a Doggy Door If you are able to put a doggy door in, this is by far the easiest way to house-train a puppy. Also, it provides an ideal way to leave a dog when they have to be alone. I teach our puppies to use a doggy door before they go home. In the last days before they go home, I section off a small area inside next to our kitchen with free access to a doggy door that leads to our side yard. When I keep a puppy past 8 weeks, I gradually increase the size area of the indoor area as they show dependability. I reserve the times when they are free in the house to the 30 minutes right after they have pottied. We highly recommend it. If you have a particularly aggressive chewer then I would buy the Extreme Kong but if your dog is average then I would use a Classic Kong. Bob-a-lot : You can fill this toy with a lot of food; the dog has to work at getting the food out by pushing it around. JW Pet has other great toys too. If you have a particularly aggressive chewer then I would buy the Extreme Kong but if your dog is an average chewer then I would use a Classic Kong. Puppies love them and they keep our puppies happy in their crates. Toys for Month Old Puppies.

Puppy Mill Red Flags It is essential for potential Labradoodle owners to be aware of puppy mill red flags to ensure that their pup is coming from a reputable source. Puppy mills are inhumane and often breed puppies in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions. Red flags to watch for include: Large numbers of puppies for sale; Limited information about the parents of the puppies; Unwillingness to let you visit the facility; and Lack of knowledge about the breed. Tips for New Labradoodle Owners For new Labradoodle owners, there are a few tips to help ensure that your pup has a great start in life. First, be prepared for a lot of energy! Labradoodles are active and playful, so be sure to give them plenty of exercise and playtime. Labradoodles are intelligent and eager to please, so positive reinforcement and consistency are key. Start with basic commands like sit and stay, and gradually increase the complexity of the commands once your pup masters the basics. Crate training is a great way to house train your Labradoodle because it gives them their own safe space. In teaching potty training, establish a routine and schedule and be consistent with it. Use rewards to reinforce positive behavior and keep distractions to a minimum. Be patient, as it may take some time for your pup to learn the basics of potty training. The cost of a Labradoodle varies depending on the breeder, coat type, size, and color. The breeder may provide a list of items you should provide, and they provide things like a collar, leash, and a sample of food to help transition them to their new diet. What is the downside to a Labradoodle? Like any breed, Labradoodles come with their own set of pros and cons. They are highly intelligent and active dogs, so they need plenty of mental and physical stimulation. They can be prone to separation anxiety if left alone for too long. They can be expensive to purchase and maintain because of their grooming needs and potential health issues. However, with proper training, socialization, and exercise, Labradoodles can be wonderful family pets. Are Labradoodles good house dogs? Yes, Labradoodles make excellent house dogs! I have a friend that has a Labradoodle, and he is the best dog. These are loyal, loving, and very intelligent companions. What is the lifespan of a Labradoodle? The average lifespan of a Labradoodle is about years. The breed is usually healthy but can be prone to specific health issues, such as hip dysplasia, eye problems, and skin allergies. Regular vet checkups and following a healthy diet and exercise plan can help keep your Labradoodle happy and healthy. Are Labradoodles suitable for first-time owners? Labradoodles can be an excellent choice for first-time dog owners. Their intelligence makes them easy to train, and they can make great companions with the right amount of exercise, stimulation, and grooming. A professional trainer will help you with any issues that may crop up, though you should start training your pup as soon as possible. They are also very loyal and loving so they will form a strong bond with their owners. Can I leave a Labradoodle at home all day? Labradoodles need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, so it is not recommended to leave them at home all day. They can become anxious and destructive if left alone for too long. Only dogs who have passed with flying colors are used for breeding purposes, which greatly reduces the risk of the puppies inheriting any genetic conditions or hereditary illnesses. Some breeders even offer a three-year health warranty! All of these organizations require that their member breeders follow their strict health testing standards, ethical breeding practices, and provide the pups a nurturing, loving, and safe environment to grow up in. Additionally, some breeders also post their customer testimonials on their websites. Chestnut Hill Labradoodles is a Puppy Culture breeder and also utilizes important puppy rearing techniques from Avidog. They make sure that all of their pups are properly socialized with children, adults, elderly, and other dogs before adoption. They also implement various enrichment methods, such as potty training, crate training, Early Neurological Stimulation ENS , regular grooming, household desensitization, and more. What Makes This Breeder Unique? Puppies receive their age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, a microchip, free pet insurance for 30 days through Trupanion, and early spaying or neutering.
